Yesterday, I got this email in my inbox. I am reposting it with the permission of the author, removing his name
The Saker
——-
Hi Saker –
For some time I’ve had this urge to write you – so – here I go –
I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years and I love it – your contributors and the comment section –
First thing every morning – a cup of coffe – and all the sites, that I certainly am not allowed to follow according to the thought police,
who think – for feel they do not –
that they must steer the streams of thought in every mind on earth.
Feeling is a choice and these rule-ridden folks have chosen not to feel.
They think it would be smart to have a planet inhabited by “factory-made” bipedal beings incapable af choosing by themselves.
Apparently their thinking capabilities do not allow them to see,
that this way they are hurtling headlong into entropy.
Now this may even be their real wish – intent as they are on revenge against creation itself.
Years ago Steven Pinker coined the word : to theel = think+feel and that is what I theel, that we should teach our kids to choose.
I like your choice of name – the Saker – and my aqquaintance with a member of that tribe is what really prompted me to write you.
I am a dane – born in Syria – growing up periods in Syria – periods in Denmark – the following takes place in Qalamun –
One day walking about the grounds where I was living, I came to a water basin and in the pool was this bird trying
helplessly to change its fate – what to do ? – I went in for a pair of gloves and my camera –
I lifted the little fellow out of the water and put him on the ground – very wet and very ruffled –
I took off my gloves and sat down with him thinking : You can’t fly with those swing feathers all battered out of order –
so I started straightening them one by one – and he allowed me to – this was the most fantastic feeling –
being allowed to help – and after maybe half an hour with feathers OK and dried in the desert sun –
he took to the air – gave me a triple circle sayonara and headed for the mountains –
That experience did someting deep to me.
SYRIA – who is going to sit down beside you – straighten your swing feathers – see you lift off –
and watch you soar above your desert and your mountains ?
I don’t have words for what goes on inside me in these times of utter madness.
The place where I was made and lived and played is to be murdered.
Anger and deep disgust is what I feel.
The Syria I knew some fifty years ago was where a myriad of different religious denominations and languages
lived together – traded together – worked together and partied together and is now to be eliminated by some folks,
who have made it their final goal to have the silver string connecting heart and mind cut through –
in their epitomy of hubris they never realize, that when that note is silenced,
they’ll have no more to lord it over.
they’ll experience the poverty of being rich.
Homo Sapiens is hardly the right word for our species.
best wishes for you, those with you and your blog –
xxxxxx from Denmark
Before I could place Syria on a map, for the lack of one, two syrian girls approached me how to get downtown on a lisbon underground station. They wished to get souvenirs before leaving back home. Two beautiful girls, the first studied law and the second i forgot what exactly. Waiting on the same line I surprised my curiosity noticing how feminine they were dressed for latin eyes. I ventured what had they visited in their stay before asking to write their names, and mine in their alphabet and parting ways, i still keep it on my paper notebook.
It wasn’t until having gone to the same place they had been for very disparate reasons than a study visit to an ancient jew community in Castelo de Vide that I recalled those two curious arab girls. If I wasn’t such an arse regarding so called social networking we would have probably remained in contact. Not until Syria enjoys peace I’ll worry for them both but I missed first hand account of the tragedy once it hit their home from abroad.
I can now place Syria on map much after having her in my thoughts, oxalá their curiosity lead them safe.
What is happening in Syria is not about Syria any more it is about the fate of the entire humanity that is being decided there. That ‘bird’ is all of us now…and Allah is there trying to dry our feathers and help us theel again our oneness and fly…
@ Little Syrian in dire straits

@Little Syrian in dire straits
They touched mine too

Syria is not the only place where those without a heart had come an dripped the heart out the whole nation. Our life in North America is dominated by simple subliminal messaging and here is how it works. Just recently we had two tragedies in Canada . In the province of Quebec 6 Muslim men ( fathers, husbands, brothers, providers ) were killed and nineteen others injured while praying in a local mosque. The killer was a university student who grew up in a right wing community where Catholicism dominates logic.
The other tragedy was the death in a buss accident in Saskatchewan of 15 young hockey players with their coach , driver and trainer.. Within three weeks a fund of $15 million was raised for the victims families. The mosque shooting raised $175,000 for a wheelchair bound young man who attempted to save the others.
You just need to look at these two tragedies to understand how we see what is worth and what is not. This is how our media look at world events as well. Our view is preprogrammed by entertainment from Hollywood which even today after 70 years we see Germans as bad and now they are working on the Muslims.
Aymen Derbali was given a cheque for $400,000 to purchase a new accessible home.

The deaths of the hockey players drew such sympathy because it was a mass death of children/youths. The players were 16 to 19 years old.
I was devastated by that even. As a coach and teacher I drove students all-over British Columbia and that was my greatest fear. I was also devastated by what happened in Quebec where fathers and providers were killed by an indoctrinated idiot. My point is this the two events were tragic and should have had an equal outrage and an equal response.. In the West some children are more worth then others. Look at the comment of Medline Albright about the invasion of Iraq who said price was right, that 500,000 of Iraqi children. died due to Clinton’s sanctions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omnskeu-puE . How can yu kill someone else’s children and love your own? The point is there was no outpouring of grief for the Canadian Muslims.
My dear anonymous letter writer.
You are the epitome of our species, performing an act of kindness to a helpless being of another species. Perhaps there is hope for our species after all.
It is easy to dwell on the horrors we see every day, this century and more of endless war that has destroyed your country of birth in a mindless orgy of fire and battle just as my ancestral country went down in a storm of hellfire and retribution 70 years ago.
Such simple acts of kindness should be a guiding light for all of us. If this recollection of your kind deed turns but one soul away from thoughts of evil for but one minute, it was worth the effort although I know you had no thoughts of such worldliness, your thoughts and effort was to but help one poor bird who thanked you as he could with his triple circle before disappearing in to his world.
Perhaps the time will be soon when my country of residence, the country where my heart and life is now, will help in the rebuilding of your beloved Syria. With His will this shall be.
With kindest regards,
Auslander

My home town.
Fabulous! Where I live, they say ‘Ojallah’.
Dear Brother,
The bird expressed Love/ gratitude and Joy. The bird represents LIFE. . Through him Life wanted you to see/ feel and become aware that Love/ Joy is in your heart and to go into it to lift yourself up, doesn’t matter what is happening right now in Syria.
We do not know what we do not know…
Remember that the Syrian people showed to all humanity that their Love for each other helped them to stand Tall, Dignified and United despite all odds (fears and destruction).
This is their Power and it is a powerful message.
They will rebuild their life with the help from other brothers and sisters around the world.
So, do not forget your little fellow! It is a message of Hope.
With love.
Hope springs eternal from your touching story and metaphor.
Best wishes from down under.

… and still wars and evil men without the dignity to stay at the presence of a righteous God. Masters of nothing! What space there will be for you in a paradise of peace and glory?
His mercy to the worlds was wont at times to reflect on man’s love for and compassion for others. And he always attributed it to the most high. What a wonderful thing to do. May the glory of the lord rest upon you and yours, keep you safe, and lead you on.
He who binds himself to a Joy
Does the wingèd life destroy
But he who kisses the Joy as it flies
Lives in Eternity’s sunrise
-William Blake
