It is an American rite of passage to realise that the Democratic Party never achieves what they claim to want to achieve.
Some Americans achieve this realisation at 13, whereas the truly insufferable – because they lie about the past and are forced to deflect from those lies with aggressive self-righteousness – can persist in this self-harming delusion even past 63.
Losing control of the House of Representatives means the election was a major loss. Democrats are spinning the idea that “We could have lost worse” actually represents a positive outcome, but only committed Democrats are able to delude themselves into thinking that such pathetic logic is actually believed by the average person.
Democrats might also lose the Senate, but it’s already a done deal: the United States will be stuck in two years of gridlock, with each party voting down each other’s legislation. An America badly in repair will have only have bipartisan agreement on the usual: increasing military spending. Republicans now have the ability to introduce and discuss legislation which Democrats greatly fear, such as the handling of the coronavirus, the anti-Trump efforts of the FBI, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, etc.
It’s true that the sitting party’s president almost always loses Congressional seats in the midterm election, but what really cost the Democrats was their commitment to the American Dream of “forever war”.
The Pentagon just announced that they will be in Ukraine for “as long as it takes” and unveiled a new command center in Germany to help train and equip Ukraine’s military. Goodbye Afghanistan, but hello Ukraine.
What cost the Democrats on election day is the failure of the economy, and while Americans might have passively stood for another two years of inequality, poor wages and precariousness (what’s 2 more on top of 40?), Washington’s choice to reject diplomacy and fuel war in Ukraine is what sent the economy into a tailspin at warp speed. The economic crisis was the number one issue for voters, and this pain was self-inflicted by the warmongering Democrats.
Just as the economic sanctions on Russia have rebounded so awfully against the West, so did the Democrats’ war drive rebound in their own sanctioning at the ballot box this week.
They did do better than expected, so just imagine how Democrats might have done if the economy was merely stable, instead of the current awful? They could have kept the House and won true control of the Senate – not the often-useless 50-50 split they eked out in 2020.
It’s completely accurate to say that the Democrat-led war drive in Ukraine is the reason why Democrats lost control Congress, but it’s forbidden to say such things in the Western media.
What drove Democrats to be so reckless with the well-being of the everyday American?
Some will say it’s Russophobia, just as Islamophobia after 9/11 smoothed public opinion for a 20-year murder spree across the Muslim World.
You can’t demonise a nation every night on MSNBC and every day in The New York Times for 5+ years and then be surprised when their readers and leaders exacerbate a war with the object of demonisation. Those are Democratic Party mouthpieces and not Republican ones, which can have very different ideas on Ukraine. Democratic Party leaders are obviously driven by an unjust need for vengeance against Russia – whom many Democrats falsely blame for influencing the 2016 election – and to hell with the costs on the working-poor class.
For Democrats, this vengeance is the highest display of political morality, just as vengeance towards Muslims was the highest display of political morality after 9/11. The war campaign against Russia took longer to work, but there was no bloody flag to wave to rally Americans around the president’s latest war – Russians killed no Americans.
However, going back six years is a very short measuring stick. America has been at war since always. The world used to consider Democrats brave for saying that out loud, but it is no longer the 1950s – this is now common knowledge among the new generation.
Now being a true progressive certainly must include a desire to end civil and foreign violence. That latter seems to be the domain of the Republican Party in 2022, as they have actually threatened to cut funding for Biden’s Ukrainian quagmire.
That the Republicans are the “peace party” makes no sense, of course. The “CIA Democrats caucus” (Democrats in the House of Representatives who worked in intelligence, the State Department or the military) has expanded to at least 15 people and that makes no sense, either.
But since when has American politics made moral sense? America has always been a deeply reactionary country – its founding revolution was merely against foreign control and not in favor of a progressive reordering of society – and thus its politics has always been defined by hypocrisy, zero memory and even less understanding of this thing we share called human history.
The Democrats’ Russophobia made Russia the target, but the Democratic Party’s truly autocratic and anti-democratic commitment to “forever war” is the root cause of their undeniable electoral defeat this week.
Democrats are more committed to war this time, but it’s absurd to believe that even if Republicans don’t totally back this war that they won’t back future American wars. Simply refer to how France didn’t join the Western coalition against Iraq only to join all the following Western imperialist coalitions, and also spearheaded their usual imperialist domination across the Sahel and West Africa.
What’s the root effect, and the one which is most historically important? 2022 has shown that the US cannot handle its forever wars like it used to – not militarily, not politically and obviously not economically.
That’s the biggest change Americans have to grapple with, and their solution is peace: A top foreign policy poll recently showed that 79% of Americans want peace with Iran, for example. Of course, despite all the insistence in the US and also Iran that a Democratic victory in 2020 will end America’s “forever war on Iran” Joe Biden has obviously disproved that, as well.
However, all the American people could do was punish the Democratic Party – it’s not as if any composition of Republicans and Democrats will actually implement the will of the average American.
The Democratic Party cannot and will not ever grapple with its inability to handle forever wars, which has been laid bare in 2022, because that’s not how Western Liberal Democracy works: it requires forever wars, both foreign and domestic.
Many incorrectly believe that the Democratic Party can somehow save Western Liberal Democracy, but not that many Americans engage in such wishful thinking – simply look at the vote results after two years of Democratic control of Washington.
Ramin Mazaheri is the chief correspondent in Paris for PressTV and has lived in France since 2009. He is currently covering the US midterm elections. He has been a daily newspaper reporter in the US, and has reported from Iran, Cuba, Egypt, Tunisia, South Korea and elsewhere. His latest book is ‘France’s Yellow Vests: Western Repression of the West’s Best Values’. He is also the author of ‘Socialism’s Ignored Success: Iranian Islamic Socialism’ as well as ‘I’ll Ruin Everything You Are: Ending Western Propaganda on Red China’.
The only losers in this election – like every other US election – are citizens.
Both parties are war parties. Both parties slavishly serve their sponsors and ignore their constituents. In elections a few new asses take some seats, a few chairs get rearranged, and then it’s business as usual – the only change being who gets investigated. The needs and desires of citizens remain ignored and unfulfilled.
Dems didn’t lose the house beacause of Ukraine, they lost it because every election is “vote the bums out”. The problem is that the other party (as if there were actually two) and their individual replacements are just as much bums as their predecessors.
Thanks Black cloud to keep things simple and true.
I agree, the D/R phony two party (one party dictatorship) system is a joke. Elections Inc. in the USA is the world’s most expensive PR stunt – it generates billions for advertising, BigMedia, political consulting firms, the DNC/RNC etc.
Decade after decade, it matters very little if any, if the Red Team or the Blue Team are in power. They are just puppets of oligarchy.
And the US has the audacity to accuse other countries of being undemocratic. The hypocrisy meter just went to 11.
“The US is an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery” Jimmy Carter 2015 (quoted in Rolling Stone)
The Citizens United case tore the facade off the fact that the US political system is formalized bribery and corrupt to the core.
hypocrisy is being Christian and believing governments are going to be able to change their own sinful lifestyle, for they all love bribes, and they work for power in positions. For their is one God and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ that rules over all. The Book has been written from beginning to ending, and the prophecies are true. The cycles have been placed in the heavens and earth with everything held in place by an Almighty God. There is a heaven and there is a hell, and mankind will be judged by a just and righteous judge in His time.
Wow. I’ve appreciated and respected the authorship of Mr. Mazaheri for several years now. He has been one of a small number of openly pro socialism authors who I’ve had much respect for.
This latest article seems a significant aberration to the point that I honestly believed I was reading satire for roughly the first half of the article.
The analysis of the demonratic party and the american electorate are both bizarrely out of touch with reality. A fact I attribute to the possibility that Mr. Mazaheri likely makes use of some wildly inaccurate source material in developing his profoundly flawed ‘understanding’ of the american domestic political environment.
Sorry to be a critic, and I definitely still have much respect for the author based off of his prior work.
Perhaps you would kindly provide some examples of what you’re talking about. You just put out some very general accusations with no backing.
Mazaheri simply photographed the reality of American political hypocrisy.
What?
The Dems did insanely well for a midterm, far better than projected for a party with a deeply unpopular president and a bad economy. The GOP would have had Congress and a majority of the governors had the elections been fair. Both parties fought hard to keep the nationalists Trump movement out of office and were quite successful.
The voting in the US is a communist era farce now. They’re still counting some of the races weeks later. It used to be over in a night, maybe a few days for a tight race, but now since the votes are computer tabulated by black box voting machines and there’s mail in ballots with no ID verification there’s a lot of room for error.
Interesting how the Democrats seem to win more than their fair share of these tight races in big cities where the vote counts stretch out for weeks at a time. You’d think they’d win about half of the very close races.
I think that the reason for the Dems relatively good showing was the abortion issue. After the recent Supreme Court ruling, it was clear that was going to be a motivator to get Dems to vote, especially the younger demographic. I think the stats bear that out.
If you actually think humans voting decides the Democratic vote in any NATO US Zio country…..well ain’t that the problem right there.
It’s fixed. Period. You mention ‘stats’ , Insurance Companies calculate stats, Governments have no need. The masses are told what to believe, every close race running 51/49, is man ip u lated…..really it is. Okay everyone, remember to get out and vote…..it will be counted.
Cheers M
I believe they are testing the veracity of the machines for the 2024 voting cycle.
The system doesn’t need anymoore corrupted machines than it already has.
There are many frauds in the US but two stand out:
1.The fraud that the US federal/state government is In Charge of everything.
Wrong. The US has become a Financial Arbitrage around the neck of every citizen. It’s the Masters in Finance, Big Insurance, Big Real estate. These Masters are the Super Wealthy; The FED that hands out $$trillions to the Elite class of Multi-billionaires, and have a legion of lobbyists who pay off every politician from the “president” all the way down to the lowly County Courthouse.
2. The second fraud follows the first: the notion that there is a huge divide between the Republicans vs The Democrats. There is No divide. They are all paid off to legislate what is most needed for the Financial System; the Super wealthy.
There is some good news: More and more Americans are coming to the realization that the two above-noted are absolute Facts. This growing population usually don’t even bother voting in mid-term, presidential elections along with any county elections, either.
The bad news is, the US society has splintered into a thousand puzzle pieces, meaning, very little resistance has erupted as a massive force against the two Frauds.
The only correction I would make is to say “deliberately splintered”: divide and conquer. As long as citizens are divided againsr each other (by race, religion, economic status, political affiliation, etc.) they won’t unite against their common oppressors.
This also explains wokism, a further subdivision and fragmentation of the populace.
Hard to take anyone serious who still uses the term dems. There is no difference. Like it matters at all who the party in power right now in the US is. Whomever is in power is definitely not for the people. This system can not be changed from the inside. The 2 parties “red line” is to not allow a 3rd party to grow.
People in the US were born into lies, brought up in the lies(myself included). At some point we have to accept this, move on and act accordingly. Voting will not change this reality.
Real hard part here is trying to find anyone with similar views that’s not infiltrated. Websites I trusted turned out to be controlled opposition, people I had hope in turned out to be controlled opposition. Trusting anything here is damn near impossible. Anyway there’s my rant, have a good night
Thank you for “waking up.” :) After realizing it’s only a One Party System for the Super Rich, common citizens can feel exposed to a truly hopeless future. Most of us, like yourself,….well, we just try to do our best in living life as best we can.
Issue is if there are many others who have known this stuff for quite awhile, where is the network to find others and make a plan?
From my point of view a lot of people(not accusing you) seem to just want to say, “I thought of this first, good job waking up”. Where is any sort of plan or a plan to at minimum to connect other like minded people?
I guess it’s not that serious to people who think as forward as their next box of fruity pebbles but for others who see the writing on the wall it’s deadly serious or maybe even past the point of even doing anything. What have the “awake” people been doing?
Sgage-
Please read the comments following mine for the requested elucidation.
>America has always been a deeply reactionary country – its founding revolution was merely against foreign control<
Since they were at the time, British colonies, populated by British citizens, it is more correct to say the founding revolution was against a distant and excessively taxing government. 'foreign' played no part in it.
America was founded by rich white slave owners who didn’t want to pay taxes.
Mission Accomplished!
“The Democratic Party cannot … handle forever wars”, neither can the Republicans.
Wars = MIC funding = Jobs = lobby funding. If the US stops fighting wars then MIC will crash, jobs will be lost and Washington will have no lobby funds. Need to break this psychotic cycle before anything will change.
“America has always been a deeply reactionary country – its founding revolution was merely against foreign control and not in favor of a progressive reordering of society” Really?
For someone so politically sophisticated you knowledge of american and world history is pathetic. Read Clash of Two Americas, volumes 1-3: https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/19240701.Matthew_Ehret
Fact check it (it all checks out) and do a review for this site. And when you are done throw out the Communist Manifesto, all 3 volumes of Kapital and all related tomes by Lenin et. al.
Please do so soon. Readers of PressTV desrve and need a “real” perspective.
Another product of the American educational system who imagines that socialism=communism=totalitarianism. I’m getting sick of ill educated Yanks slating ‘leftists’ and conflating them with the woke movement, the decrepit US Democratic Party and a thousand other things that have absolutely nothing to do with socialism. The US killed or exiled all it’s genuine socialists during the twentieth century, and now they appear to have actually forgotten the meaning of the word (how convenient for the US oligarchs). Rosa was right; capitalism is just fascism-lite, and sooner or later it reverts to type, so the options are freedom (socialism) or slavery (capitalism).
I’m a yank and I agree with you. In the US, being ignorant with an opinion is considered a virtue, and having NOT read the 3 volumes of Kapital makes you an expert critic of Marx. Marx was first and foremost a classical economist; any serious student of economics should read Capital along with Ricardo, Mill, Smith, Veblen, Keynes et al. Even if one disagrees with one of the classic authors, we shouldn’t suggest someone throw out their books or burn them.
You are totally right. There appears to be many Americans that are so ignorant of politics, economics.philosophy, history, facts etc. that really have no idea of what communism is, to the extent they link it to the Democrats. Sometimes I cannot believe that I am actually writing about what amounts to total ignorance and possibly linked to old McCarthyism and “reds under the bed” scaremongering? But then again the root cause could be just plain stupidity.
Author observes: “What drove Democrats to be so reckless with the well-being of the everyday American?
Some will say it’s Russophobia, just as Islamophobia after 9/11 smoothed public opinion for a 20-year murder spree across the Muslim World.”
Time for the “facts.” First of all, both the Democrat and Republican Party are mirror images of each other. They are both “bought-off” by their Masters: the US Financial System with the Multi-billionaires who own the Real Estate, Banking System, and the monoliths in Big Insurance.
Both of these parties are extremely tied in with those four levels of exceedingly wealthy folks.
This is why lobbying by those four entities congregate around D.C. State Govts all the way down to the lowliest of County Courthouses.
We must remove the notion that the two parties make a significant economic or political difference when either Party is in power in D.C..
And, yes, because both parties are bought off by the Super Elite, it means that the common citizen loses ground every year. But for those who still bother voting is shrinking, ’cause more and more millions of US citizens are beginning to wake up to that, supposed, Two-Party System. Instead, it’s a One Party System because the money comes from the same sources.
Here’s American Democracy in its essence:
Every election, you get a wonderful choice of:
1. Eating a plate of steaming donkey sh*t.
2. Eating a plate of steaming elephant sh*t.
Bon Appétit, American voters!
“the United States will be stuck in two years of gridlock”
So at least the worst ideas of the two wings of the Uniparty won’t be implemented, we got that going for us.
The author states that the reason for American wars is a revenge: 9/11 for Arabs, and elections in 2016.for Russians. But as we know – every war in history was lead for the goods: the territory and resources. Wars in Afghanistan and Ukraine are global wars, lead for the world domination, but this domination is used for the world robbery, nothing else.
