Just a short – but dramatic – year ago, the people of the Donbass voted in a referendum to create the People’s Republic of Donetsk (DNR). They naively hoped that this referendum would force the junta in Kiev to finally begin serious negotiations. Instead, they got *total* war featuring armored assaults, aerial bombings, the use of ballistic missile and chemical attacks. And yet, under these absolutely horrific conditions, the people of the DNR made absolutely amazing achievements; not only did they transform a volunteer militia into a real military force, while at the same time beating back two full-scale military attacks by the Ukronazi military, they also cracked down on the huge crime wave of war-profiteering, kidnapping, rapes, aggravated assaults, etc. They did not let the infighting between various groups, clans, leaders and factions turn into an internal civil war and they succeeded, albeit with great difficulty, in unifying the command structure. They have started down the long road of re-establishing normal, social and governmental services and even though the socio-economic situation is still critical, the people of the DNR understand what is happening and an overwhelming majority supports it.
Zakharchenko has proven himself to be a formidable leader, much more sophisticated than what many had initially thought. There are still tensions inside the DNR leadership, but at least those tensions do not result in open armed clashes. The murder of DNR commanders, whether this was the result of internal conflicts or Ukronazi covert operations, appears to have been stopped.
Since the beginning of the conflict, over 2’000’000 Ukrainians have fled to Russia, including 50’000 draft evaders, but more and more people are coming back and Novorussia is slowly being re-built.
This is not to say that they have “made it”. Far from it. A third Ukronazi assault appears to be inevitable and, possibly, imminent, and the entire economy of the Donbass needs to be rebuilt. But what the Novorussians have achieved so far is already absolutely remarkable.
Watching the V-Day parade in Donetsk was most interesting, especially after the picture-perfect mega-event in Moscow. The contrast could not have been bigger.
The Russians were showing off absolutely perfect order and training; the Novorussians looked like they had no time at all to prepare.
The Russians were showing off their brand new high tech gear; the Novorussians were proudly parading Soviet 1970 equipment.
The Russian troops and equipment were shining and outrageously clean; the Novorussians just had the time to give their uniforms and gear a quick wash.
The Russians even had a bright shining sun; the poor Novorussians had their parade literally rained on.
And yet, the Novorussian parade was also absolutely beautiful. For one thing, it took place in the midst of a war and in circumstances where an attack was not only possible, but even likely. Then, there is the fact that every single soldier, commander or piece of equipment shown in downtown Donetsk, was one less available to defend against any attack. Quite a few of the participants to the parade in Donetsk were clearly wounded, including Zakharchenko himself. And, finally, while the Kremlin is awash in billions of Rubles, the Novorussians probably had to scrape the bottom of every pocket they had, to pay their comparatively modest parade.
But they did it. Right under the nose of the Ukronazis and their western allies. Just like Stalin did it under the nose of the Nazis on November 7th 1941, when the armies of Germany and her allies were at the gates of Moscow.
[Sidebar: it is often forgotten that then, just as today, all of Europe was fighting with the Nazis against Russia. I found this very good graphic about Hitler’s allies on Colonel Cassad’s website today:
In 1941, and just as in Crimean War before, the usual “European Ecumenical Coalition of the Willing” was united against Russia]
And just as in 1941, a lot of the men and women whom we saw on the parade, were probably directly sent to the frontlines at the end of the festivities.
I would argue that the Donbass has become a model, an example, which Russia ought to emulate, and not the other way around. In many ways, the previously lukewarm and indifferent Donbass has become more Russian than Russia and within one year of its creation, the Donbass has a huge, and totally positive impact on Russia herself. That is also an immense achievement for the people of Novorussia.
This war is far from over. As I have written so many times, there is no “Novorussian” solution to this war, nor is there a “Ukrainian” one. For Novorussia to be free, the Ukraine must be de-nazified and for the Ukraine to be de-nazified, the Anglo-Zionist Empire must be beaten back, if not beaten down. At the very least, Uncle Sam needs to lose his iron grip over the Ukraine and the EU.
Zakharchenko has recently declared that this war would probably end by the end of the year. Is that possible? In theory – yes. This is how it would happen: the third Ukrainian attack would fail, the Novorussian would reconquer Kramatorsk, Slaviansk or Mariupol (or any combination thereof) at which point both Russia and the EU would demand a cease-fire, followed by negotiations (just as with Minsk 1 and 2) and the junta in Kiev would be overthrown (as a direct result from this third operational defeat). This is not impossible, but the problem is that it remains unclear who would replace the current junta. Would it be a new, even more Nazi junta of Right Sector freaks? I don’t think anybody can tell at this point in time. I hope that Zakharchenko is right, but I am personally bracing for a much longer struggle.
But today is a good day to look at the past, the distant past and the recent past, not the future. And having celebrated the defeat of Nazi Germany over the weekend, we can now all celebrate the birthday of the DNR and wish her многая лето! (many years!).
Happy birthday Donbass!
The Saker
Donbass is a great achievement in democratic resistance.
It cannot be a model for Russia, though, because it requires Russia for sustenance. Thus, Russia has no Russia behind it. It stands as the Father and Mother.
Nonetheless, many subsequent regions that suffer oppression and violence may learn from the heroic resistance of Donbass.
The Republics are a light source contrasting the dark heart of evil and hegemony.
I meant a spiritual, cultural and, to some degree, even political model.
Cheers!
The Saker
I have several friends in Tashkent, a Russian speaking part of Uzbekistan where I worked for a while. They have several ethnic backgrounds — officially over 100 nationalities live in Tashkent — but they are all Russian speakers with black eyes and black hair.
But here is the interesting part. While the country — under the loving guidance of President Karimov — has moved away from Russia since independence, my friends all identify much more closely with Russia today than they did a year ago. The example set by those other Russians without Russian passports — soldiers and citizens of Donetsk and Lugansk — is a big part of this shift in consciousness. The other is the example that Putin has set of how to be a great national and world leader.
Karimov could learn a thing or two from Putin but he will probably die first. And when he does I think Uzbekistan will probably shift its allegiance back to its neighbours in the Russia, Kazakstan, Chinese orbit. For my friends, it has already happened.
They and you may be needed soon. The situation in Uzbekistan is possibly going to get serious soon.It appears the Empire wants to turn Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan into their stooges to stir trouble and terrorism throughout Central Asia.Russia,China, and Iran, would be stupid to permit that. And I’m hoping they won’t.So there may be a need for a full housecleaning soon.
What caught my eye was that NovoRosian administration took over some private banks. The money issuing power now belongs to their gvnt. Oh oh, they’ve just committed the most grave of sins against the lucifarian cult of death. Perhaps Moscow can soon follow the example.
Also, Crimea just got a Russian area code.
They are still mostly using Rubles…
Not really money issuing power, but money controlling power within their own republics :3
…just marvelous words. VERY TOUCHING.
This people NEVER will be defeated..!
God bless them..!
Thanks a lot, Dear Saker.
I and many others in the UK deplore the disingenuous and violent actions of the US/NATO backed Kiev Junta toward the hard working civil population of Donbass..
The courageous men, women and children of the Donbass are an example to us all of the stoicism, courage and valorousness of the ethnic Russian people who are now faced by a cruel and devilish Ukranian Military supported by the US and NATO.
The proud citizens of Novorussia deserve independence from the Oligarchic Nazi regime of Kiev.
Well said.
Novorussian parade was very beautiful.
I enjoyed.
Happy Birthday Donbass!
Happy Birthday Donbass!
Happy Birthday Donbass!
Em Portugal a empresa imprensa nunca escreve nem fala da Novorrussia.
Parabéns The Saker e todos os outros.
Yes, I thought looking at the Donbass soldiers how relaxed their bodies seemed compared to the stiffness of the Russian parade soldiers. I assumed this was because they were in the midst of active fighting, and their bodies were much more loose – not to say undisciplined, simply ready to turn in any direction of immediate danger.
I’m not a fighter so it’s all guesswork ;) Anyway, I loved both parades for all the good reasons accruing to each. It was a glorious day for the world – and as people have noted, the west has isolated itself, and frankly, as one Russian commentator said, the air was cleaner without them.
I think it’s cultural and a deliberate choice not to adopt stick-up-the-butt militarism. I was watching a video of Givi goofing around with a bunch of men, no rank being pulled at all, and yet watching it I thought if you asked 20 people which one was the commander, 19 would say “the tall young one.” Perhaps it helps if everyone has seen the authority being earned in the field rather than conferred in some academy.
(This was before somebody bustled in and served him coffee.)
In the Old Testament, many times these words are repeated “I am God above all gods, I am God above all armies. I stand at the head of every army, I decide the victor of every battle.” (rough translation from Serbian) People of Novorossiya have nothing to fear so long as their fight is righteous.
We should also remember words of Christ: “Those who are mine, I will beat and punish, like a father beats his child. Not out of malice, but of love, and for discipline.” (again, a rough translation) Whenever I ask myself – why all this suffering? – I recall those words.
Russians have suffered so much, and their discipline is finally showing. They really have nothing to fear so long as their fight is righteous.
What bible is that from? It does not occur in the bibles I am familiar with.
@Anonymous
FromSerbia’s translations sound like they are from the bible alright.
The first quote is reminiscent of the book of Isaiah. The second quote is from Revelation chapter 3.
It helps if your bible is not some sort of modern politically correct version. Could that be the issue?
Without a reference it is difficult to way. The passages do not seem so much a rough translation as a rough paraphrase, perhaps conflating more than a single biblical reference together, or expanding on a liturgical text that is itself indirectly referring to a biblical passage. Impossible to judge how accurately the quotation represents anything. Politically correct translation has little to do with not being recognizable: centuries old translations such as the King James are easy to find and compare.
In general it is accurate that the Bible supports the thought that God chastises whom he loves, and that human politics and military calculations mean nothing compared to God’s (generally inscrutable) purposes.
I’m returning to the discussion a bit late, but anyway: The translations are not paraphrases, but actual quotes, although it is a bit difficult to translate something from Serbian to English accurately while capturing the exact spirit of the words. The first quote “I am God above all armies. I stand at the head of every army, I decide the victor of every battle.” appears many times throughout the Old Testament. Honestly, I don’t feel like reviewing 1000+ pages so to find their exact location.
@anonymous – I’ve lived in USA for too long, and I’ve tried reading some Bibles in English. Probably the reason you can’t find such words is because English translation of ancient texts is very poor. Spirit of the words is often lost in translation. I will give you an example: “Love thy neighbor” is often quoted. However, the phrase in Serbian is (roughly translated) “Love thy close ones as much as you love yourself.” The exact word used is “bližnje” ~ sounded out: blee-zhnye~ and I translated it as a phrase “close ones” because it really means anyone intimately close to you (parents, siblings, relatives, yes – neighbors, colleagues or comrades as well). The point is to love those close to you as much as you love yourself, while English translation is simply “Love thy neighbor.” You really don’t have to love your neighbor if he/she is a jerk.
King James, Rev. 3:19 reads
“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Definitely not a translation of the same text, but could be a condensation/rewrite.
It does not sound like the same voice rendered by the Gospels.
Hebrews 12:6 For whomever the Lord loves, he chastises. And every son whom he accepts, he scourges.
Happy Birthday Donbass and many more to come :). You are a shining example to the world – true democracy.
x
Wouldn’t you have thought the democracy was just a wee bit truer if the Communist Party and Pavel Gubarev had been permitted to run?
Someone could have let them know they had not complied with all the innovative technicalities in time for them to remedy that.
I always had a strong desire to attend the parade in Moscow, and today, watching the Parades of Donetsk and Lugansk I got an urge to be there too.
I disagree with Saker regarding “this-need-copy-that there” because today more than ever, we saw that it’s all Russia, both the Parades were Russian people – the Mother embraces all!
Nice map, too bad the idea that the likes of Norway (occupied by Germany) or Finland (desperately fought to remain independent after Russia-instigated aggression) is bizarre.
Anon:
Norway contributed Quisling and a Waffen SS Division.
The “Russian-instigated agression” you speak of regarding Finland is more correctly understood as follows. The Soviet Union asked for Finland to negotiate extremely modest equitable border adjustments in the Vipuri/Vyborg region in the Soviet’s favor to permit the USSR greater maritime security for Leningrad in the face of a coming German attack. Recall that the Finno-Russian border had been set by Germany in 1918 in the Treat of Brest-Litovsk, and that the region of Vipuri was actually a gift to the Duchy of Finland by the Russian Tsars (rather like Crimea and Khruschev) after the Napoleonic Wars. In return for this, the USSR was willing to grant Finland very large regions of Finnish inhabitated Karelia from Lake Ladoga north nearly towards Murmansk, as well as military guarantees of Finnish sovereignty.
In one of the most bizzarre diplomatic decisions of the late 1930’s, Finland decided that this request for negotiation where the USSR at the outset was willing to hand Finland far more land than she was requesting was instead something worth fighting over, as if Finland stood any chance of winning a war with USSR. This war was then fought in two parts – 1939-1940, 1941-1944, both reaching the same conclusion – the defeat of the Finnish Army in the field and the cession of the entire Vipuri region as well as the cession of Finnish access to the Arctic and vast stretches of Karelia to Russia, and the subservience of the entirety of Finland to Russian security needs.
What the Finnish instransigence of 1939 really demonstrates was that they already had some sort of understanding with Germany that Finland stood to gain far more of Russia in the coming war of Nazi Germany with the Soviet Union than she could ever hope to gain from Soviet conessions. The Nazi’s stood offering all of Karelia, the Leningrad region, and a half share of economic rights in the mineral wealth of Murmansk and the Kola peninsula. Finland, of course, bet on the wrong horse to cross the finish line of Victory, but she was hardly alone doing that, seeing her keeping company with Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary in this regard in being formal allies and participants in the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union.
“I want your thing, trade it for my thing you don’t want or I’ll beat you up and take your thing anyway.”
Even The Saker and Vladimir Putin, despite their creepy admiration for mustachioed mass murderer Josef Stalin, seem to admit that the USSR was the unjustified agressor.
I believe they are suggesting that Russia was a “justified aggressor.”
The war was on. The City of Leningrad was 20 miles from the Finnish border, within artillery range. She could not be fortified and defended without more distance to the border. So Russia offered to trade for it at terms enormously favourable to Finland.
The suggestion is that only a pre-existing secret pact (these were greatly in fashion) between Finland and Germany could explain Finland turning Russia down.
It is well known that the Germans pushed the Finns into war with the Soviets as a way of discrediting the League of Nations and the Anglo-French alliance, who were left flailing and helpless at the Soviet agression.
The events of Operation Barbarossa around Leningrad and Lake Ladoga and the siege of that city by the Finns with the Germans entirely justified what the Soviet’s were demanding from Finland in negotiations to enhance the security of the city.
The situation around Leningrad in 1939 to the Soviets would be to America as if New England were an independent country (Finland) for a mere 20 years after having been broken off by an outside power and possessed Long Island and the Rockaway peninsula, thus controlling the approach to New York City, while New Jersey was another independent country (Estonia). Such a situation would have been completely intolerable to the US give the vitality of sea access out of New York to American security and the vulnerability of New York to foriegn control of Long Island and New Jersey.
One should keep in mind that international positions of neutrality were entirely ignored by Hitler’s Germany with respect to Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Denmark, Norway, and Greece. Military necessity for German security the eventual war with the Soviet Union was the only consideration geopolitical considered by Hitler. In this regard, an eventual German invasion of neutral Finland was inevitable if she had resisted German overtures and formalized an agreement with the Soviets due to the importance of Finland to control Leningrad and Murmansk and Archangelsk and thus Soviet access to the internaional seas apart from Vladivostok. As it was, Finland, like Romania saw her interests and future in seizing swaths of Soviet territory inhabitated by kindred peoples and joined the anti-Comintern pact.
The Russian-Finnish border was not set in Brest-Litovsk treaty (as is was effctively terminated within few month) but by Tartu Treaty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tartu_(Russian–Finnish)). Based on that treaty, nothing was gifted to Finland and the border did follow the old border between the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland and Imperial Russia. The only small change was Petsamo became Finnish, whilst Repola and Porajärvi were handed back to Soviet Russia.
Russia already had access to Baltic sea and mutual non-agression pact with Estonia, which included Russian military bases in Estonia.
Likewise Stalin betted on the wrong horse when he had Molotov sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact in 1939 (he was even present at the signing, Hitler wasn’t). Which contained a secret protocol for the division of Poland. And after Hitler invaded western Poland, Stalin did the same in eastern Poland.
I admire Russia and Putin but this site sometimes irritates me like in this article which presents that all of Europe was viciously ganging up on the USSR, which was a blameless victim ready to be raped by the combined forces of the monstrous west. And Stalin was a saint, he didn’t kill anyone, that must be a CIA lie.
If a WWIII is to be prevented the rhetoric has to be toned down on both sides.
The Saker:
You must be telepathic – I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!
The Moscow parade was of course, very impressive and well-done. But the best aspect of it for me t was when Putin joined in the march of Immortals, bearing a photograph of his own relative. (I noticed the FSB presence was nothing like as obtrusive as you would expect for a world leader, and felt that he really was among his own and enjoying it…could you imagine Obama/Merkel etc feeling this safe among their own electorates? Remember that staged photo-event in Paris post CH – in a completely emptied side-street?)
The perfect blue sky which I thought was fortuitous was actually guaranteed by technology according to RT.
And therein lay the essential difference:it was raining in Donbass. But they were all there, thousands of people lining the streets with their umbrellas, in defiance of all predictions and odds.
Zak seemed to be struggling with conflicting emotions: pride, worry, euphoria (‘It’s a miracle I’m standing here..’), hyper-alert but, most of all, determination. He’s the ‘face’ politically of Novorossiya, the newest world-child who, despite the danger she still faces, has managed to take her first faltering steps on the world-stage..
Like you, I was struck – and moved – by the contrast. Big brother Bear looked so well and confident – and prosperous enough to even get ‘obedience’from the weather!
Little brother Racoon had no such command over the elements. But his alert, twitchy defiance – a victory parade in the midst of bombardment – echoes the same two-fingered salute to the Punishers:
I. WON’T. GIVE. IN.
(Tom Petty).
:)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONBASS!
(Capitals are allowed this once, arent they? :)
Don’t care for “racoon.” How about Red Panda? Thought to be a bear, thought to be a raccoon, finally scientists are saying it is neither but entirely its own self.
And I think Donbass is somewhat more “red” than big brother bear.
A bushy Saint George ribbon, its tail!
The emblems of many of these Hitler “allies” were actually small groups of nazi-sympathizers representing small minorities of the population. In most cases they were hated as collaborators, sometimes murdered by the resistance, and often tried for crimes after the war.
Webe:
The emblems of many of these Hitler “allies” were actually small groups of nazi-sympathizers representing small minorities of the population.
Official signatories of the Anti-Comintern pact of 1941:
Hostile Powers – Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Italy, Slovakia, Croatia
Neutral Powers – Denmark, Spain, Turkey
I suppose you can call the actual governments of these countries “small groups of nazi-sympathizers” if you wish, but it doesn’t seem particularly accurate.
Also, I think it is valid to include regions supplying Waffen SS Divisions, Brigades, and Regiments apart from the Anti-Comintern countries:
Latvia, Estonia, Ukrainian Galicia, Belarus, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium
In most cases they were hated as collaborators, sometimes murdered by the resistance, and often tried for crimes after the war.
This sentence would more accurately read: “In most cases after the war they were hated as collaborators, sometimes murdered by the resistance, and often tried for crimes” which would put the proper emphasis on when mass resistance and opposition to the nazi’s and executions and trials of collaborators really began in Europe, which would be around the Fall of 1944 and extending through 1945-6 and into 1947, i.e., it only began when the fall of the German authorities to the Soviets or Anglo-Americans was imminent. The exception being Yugoslavia which had a true mass partisan war/uprising.
You overstate the point. People who were actually active in pro-Nazi organizations were hated long before the end of the war, and were killed by the resistance long before the end of the war, if only to maintain some margin of safety for undergound activities. Belgium and the Netherlands, for instance never supported the war against Russia as nations, even though small numbers of the population went to the Eastern front. Far larger numbers were conscripted against their will for arbeitseinsatz. Even though I support your general point, by being overstated monolithically it loses cogency. By 1941 most of these countries were occupied, the real government was in exile, and all actions were taken by a puppet regime.
The Soviet Union signed the Molotov Ribbentrop pact with Nazi Germany long before Operation Barbarosso, including a secret protocol which provided for the partition of Poland. Just because EU leaders are behaving like asses right now doesn’t mean the USSR was beyond fault back then.
For once I disagree with the Saker, when he writes that in 1941 as today all of Europe was allied against Russia. Since most of these countries were simply occupied and ruled by puppet regimes I don’t think it is really fair to say that they were “allied” with Germany. Otherwise, interesting piece. Happy birthday Donbass!
What DNR commanders were murdered?
Why does LPR not get a passing mention? It is Donbass too.
Just looked down the thread. Kat Kan, we notice the same thing again!
Anon:
Hungary, Romania, Italy, Slovakia, and Bulgaria were all active and willing participants with their internationally recognized governments participating in the fight. Ustashe Croatia was not internationally recognized but it would be extremely foolish to claim they did not have the backing of the Croatian people.
The so-called puppet governments in places like France, Netherlands, and Norway contributed far more volunteer fighters and had more popular backing than did the underground resistance until it was blindingly obvious the Nazi’s were going to lose (after 1943). Countries under actual occupation who did not contribute troops were quite limited – Poland, Greece, Serbia. Against them there are the unacknowledged by the graphic – the fervent support out of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Galicia.
Exactly! Good post.
Look up the word Quisling. It is the name of the WWII coup-maker in Norway. Today it means ‘traitor’. He was executed in October 1945. Don’t distort history if you want to get things right today.
Happy birthday, Donbass!
Can you please let me know, what was an approximate number of volunteers from “fervent supporter” Estonia joining the German Army?
We could say the same about today (or at least anti-Empire Europeans constantly do say it). That their stooge governments today don’t represent their peoples. And yet, just as in those days, there are elements in those countries that are happy to serve whichever anti-Russian power rules them. And become their cannon fodder in coming wars.I don’t see any revolts breaking out against those ‘leaders”.I don’t see those soldiers saying “we want no part of this”.So just as in WW2,where most German soldiers weren’t nazis. But fought for them, and killed for them.Today would be the same.We (and Russia) can’t depend on the people freeing themselves and saying “no,to war”.
It’s a painful, all-too-human truth that a percentage of an oppressed/invaded culture/country become effective janissaries for the new overlords.
The colonists of pre-WW11, particularly the British and French understood the fine art of co-option – the extension of benefits to select members of the invaded country, and education in the mores of the colonists in the colonists motherland.
This ensured cadres of compliant administrators to prop up the structures of wealth-extraction, to the continuing advantage of the colonists. This is why co-option rather than coercion is so much more insidiously successful.
But the more complete the cooptation and suppression, the more honour is owed to the left who resisted across Europe, and good to Putin for remembering them.
Long live Donbass and Lugansk Peoples’ Republics!
Death to “Self-Proclaimed” Western Protectorate of Banderastan.
I was pleased to see the Kiev military parading in Donetsk for the celebration.
…well, not the troops, maybe, but a respectable showing of Kiev’s heavy armor and weapons.
Nothing written here about Lugansk — the “little brother” republic. Lugansk has had the most problems with lawlessness, and units (mostly Cossacks) not wanting to integrate. Maybe this contributes to their always being months behind DPR in organising social services. But DPR announced 5 months ago they will work together in joint committees, to o-ordinate better. Luckily they also allow each other use of their banks, posit offices and phone networks (yes they have all that !).
DPR had beautiful and fancy dress uniforms, LPR did not. DPR had an announcer and a formal orma5t, copied from Moscow.
@ Kat Kan,
Q; and a formal orma5t,
R; Are your drunk on the job, sir?
Gimme that bottle of Vodka [gotta keep the stereotyping very much alive, don’t we]!!!!
:o)
Happy Birthda, Donbass, from me as well.
But as WWI and WWII showed, the Kiew Junta will have to be defeated decisively by Novorossiya, unless a “stab in the back legend” will return with a vengeance.
The current situation of a frozen conflict is the worst possible outcome, with neither side having the power to achieve victory, the conflict will go on forever.
Mr Saker,
Lovely tribute to the Novorossyan people and their Russian family.
Yes, you understand; the Novorossyan Militia, and their incomparable leaders, are “a model, an example” for all oppressed people all over the world. They have shown the way forward to human freedom and progress.
They compare favorably to the Abraham Lincoln, and Thaelman, the other International Brigades, and the Spanish Republican Army, who fought in the Spanish Civil War. The positive difference between 1936-1939, and 2014-2015, is that the Republic Militia have a reborn (and a Morally reborn) Russia at their backs. This Russian Nation has been properly informed of the vital struggle in Novorossiya. The Russian Nation can see the suffering of their people – who are under daily bombardments; and they are well aware of the authors of these imperialist brutalities.
It is obvious that the Russian leaders, backed by their people, will not passively allow their people, or their allies (such as Iran, or Syria), to be brutalized. Saker, you are also correct that the struggle will likely be long; the Spanish Civil War took 3 years. This time, the Fascists will not win.
Within America, our citizens are not so well informed. They are both wilfully blind, and un willingly intimidated. It is possible that the High-Road of the Democratic Republics, and that the dignity of the Russian and Novorossyan leaders and their people, will rub off. After all: are we made of stone?
For the Democratic Republics! Here and There!
IMAGINE
Thanks Saker! Wonderful reporting on Donbass. I was surprised that you never mentioned what US plans are for Donbass for as far as the US is concerned, they own Ukraine. I would bet any amount that they plan to never leave and begin since 2013 the emptying out of Russia through Ukraine. Genocide planned.
A 31-page poll and analysis of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology shows that a majority of Ukrainians want the war to end in a negotiated settlement with whatever concessions to the LDNR it takes to reach agreement, including retaining their own armed forces.
The polling was done by region and, no surprise, changes from west to east, but not as much as one would think. Perhaps the ultimate solution will be annexation of part of the west by Poland.
Zakharchenko for President! If he wants.
“This war is far from over. … the Anglo-Zionist Empire must be beaten back, if not beaten down. At the very least, Uncle Sam needs to lose his iron grip over the Ukraine and the EU.”
With Russian propaganda now multiplying the comparisons of (remote-controlled) Ukrobots to “fascist occupants” of 70 years ago, and framing the conflict in terms of the Great Patriotic War, I’m starting to get the feeling that Russia will strike back.
“… celebrate the birthday of the DNR and wish her многая лето! (many years!).”
How about 1000 for starters? Honestly, I think DNR and LNR are intermediary products in a larger transformation that, I hope, will see Uncle Sam kicked out … I do hope DNR/LNR will be remembered as Turning Points of History.
Happy birthday Donbass!, you deserve the best and I wish you well for many years.
You’re doing fine.
Certainly you are an example of courage and dignity. Many in Europe are with you and we love you as brothers.
We will never forget this year, in our hearts there is a place for you, forever.
Thanks for making us see that another world is possible, but requires a lot of effort, will, courage and determination, and lose the fear of losing everything, even life.
Good health and good luck in your way. God bless you.
Only those who’ve faced actual [real] combat, will understand the minds of the battle hardened forces, for they are, for the most part, empty. There’s simply no room for much emotion…
Most of the tears will rain down, much later on in life. becasue Death itself, makes no friends.
Saker, the public (outside of the Donbass) are getting weary of the war, they know it is going to be VERY costly to get it back, near impossible without possibly destroying the rest of Ukraine, economically at least. And as reported, even in that liberal rag the Economist, Russia can supply 400% of what the West can supply Kiev in arms. Furthermore, NATO has been whining that Russia has supplied so much arms now that the Donbass military could go on the offensive, if they wanted to.
My feedback too, is that it is too late now to get the Donbass back, the people there don’t want it, especially since they KNOW that poroshenko has been deliberately trying to murder them (by targetting civilians in residential areas) – not to mention damaging their childrens’ educational prospects.
The good news is that, with the high price increases/high inflation, those outside the Donbass are going to be complaining to Kiev that they can’t afford it, and if – or rather when – the pain becomes too much, they are going to protest, which could lead to riots etc, meaning that (some of at least) the military will be pulled back from the front.
The people in Donbass are “weary” of the war too.It is them doing the dying after all (civilians that is).But to survive they must fight to win.I doubt that leaving their people as hostages in the rest of Novorossia is a viable option for them.At the very least all Donetsk and Lugansk must be freed. And really all Novorossia must be liberated.
Happy Birthday Donbas.

TEHRAN (FNA)- There is a reason why Saudi Arabia claims soon there will be “humanitarian pause” in Yemen and it is going to mean a halt in airstrikes against the country.
They are still stuck in the military quagmire, anxiously piling up demands on Ansarullah. They are desperate to see the resistance refrain from further movement of troops and artillery to commandeer and control the remaining parts of the country.
The pause might allow some humanitarian shipments into the country during that period, but this will not include easing the naval blockade on such shipments. This is because Saudi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Asseri is still talking up a new round of attacks; frantically saying “now is not the time for calm.”
The United States republic was pro-Russia during the Crimean War. The United States republic was pro-Russian during most of its incarnation. Before the States became zombified by international banksters after 1870. After the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 that spawned both world wars and the Cold War, the zombie United States corporation became anti-Russian. Both the United States and Ukraine are zombie nations and have that in common. Putin probably understands that the United States is not itself anymore and needs a vaccine to clear out the zombie venom. He’s working on it. He also probably remembers that JFK put his foot down with the Joint Chiefs to stop a nuclear first-strike sneak attack on the Soviet Union, saving the lives of 140 million or more Soviet citizens. Because JFK actually cared about the lives of innocent Soviet citizens. He toured Germany after the war and was deeply moved by the terrible devastation of total war on hapless civilians and resolved to do everything in his power to avoid such terrible conflagration and suffering. He resolved to end the Cold War. Will Vladimir Putin return the favor? He may. He may.
America and Russia were kindred countries and allies for over 100 years. This began to change in the late 1800’s with the advent in America of significant anti-Russian propaganda over pogroms and the revolutionary movement in Russia coincident with the migration of Jews to the US from the Russian Empire. It doesn’t have anything to do with bankers or the Federal Reserve Act and pre-dates that act by a couple of decades.
The ISIL is in Ukraine: America’s “Agents of Chaos” Unleashed in Eurasia
The conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen are all fronts in a multi-dimensional war being waged by the US and its allies. This multi-dimensional war aims to encircle Eurasia. China, Iran, and Russia are the main targets.
The US also has an order of operations with which to takeout these countries. Iran is first, followed by Russia, with China as the last part of the Eurasian set comprised of this «Eurasian Triple Entente.» It is no coincidence that the conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen are near the borders of Iran and Russia, because Tehran and Moscow are the nearer term targets of Washington.

Norway was not “allied” with nazi-Germany during WWII. We were a small nation being ambushed and overwhelmed by a huge army. On the night of the attack 9. April 1940, the battleship Blûcher was sunk in the Oslo fjord, using 50 year old guns. The government and king escaped to England for the duration of the war. Members of my family were imprisoned by the nazis.
I support the novorussians today, because I know the history of nazism. You should not let it be distorted by claiming the victims of nazism during WWII were the allies of the nazi occupants.
The Russians praise and are thankful to the Norwegian resistance during WWII. There is a long section in a great Russian documentary about Norway and her help to the Soviet army fighting against the Nazi monster.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhXKlYnSWjA&list=ELlzBS5WrPu4s
Norway being a founding member of the Nazi American Terror Organization shows the sincerity of all Western WW2 drivel learned by rote.
Rampages Anders Behring Breivik-style is what happens to Western countries when NATO cannot absorb all the dregs for humanitarian interventions abroad. An ardent Kosher Nazi himself, Breivik most certainly found instant common cause with the Ukros against Novorussia and Russia.
However, honesty about Norway would also compel one to admit that many Hitler allies could be found there, enough to help form the 5th and 11th Waffen SS Divisions Viking and Nordland.
In all, 15,000 Norwegians volunteers to serve the Hitler regime as opposed to 11,000 volunteering to serve the Allies.
http://www.nuav.net/volunter.html
You don’t know what you are talking about. Norway had about 3 million people at that time. We had a large merchant ship fleet working for the allies, a large number of soldiers operating from the UK and Canada. Then you must add the internal resistance, well known for sabotage actions, e.g. heavy water factory at Rjukan. Norway was NOT allied with the nazis, it was ambushed.
Norwegian:
No one is saying anything different. But lets put aside the childish post-war myths which assign blame for everything to Quisling and pretend he had no helpers and that the entire population resisted. Also, a few isolated acts of sabotage are hardly a partisan war on the level of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union, where hundreds of thousands of German soldiers were tied up for years in anti-partisan military operations. Germany did not need to conduct anti-partisan warfare in Norway.
Ibrahim:
Norway’s official central government never collaborated because it fled to England, but obviously many low-level officials went right on functioning in their jobs during the occupation and being paid for it. Quisling did not run the Norwegian state alone from 1940 to 1945.
Andrew,
I believe we need to make a distinction between individuals or a group Nazi collaborators and their governments. It’s not the same as the Vichy government of Petain and others governments in Europe. Norway government never did collaborate and I can safely state that it is innocent for the crime of the group you mentioned. Even in the Soviet Union there were Nazi collaborators, yet this had nothing to do with the Soviet governments.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_collaborators_with_Nazi_Germany
Just saying.
One more post for this and I will shut up :>)
The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany started with the German invasion of Norway on 9 April 1940 and ended on 8 May 1945, after the capitulation of German forces in Europe. Throughout this period, Norway was continuously occupied by the Wehrmacht. Civil rule was effectively assumed by the Reichskommissariat Norwegen (“Reich Commissariat of Norway”), which acted in collaboration with a pro-German puppet government, while the Norwegian king and legitimate government continued to operate in exile from London. This period of military occupation — usually referred to as the “war years” or “occupation period” in Norway — had defining significance for Norwegian society.

Thanks, Saker.
Happy birthday Donbass!
The map is misleading in that it makes no distinction between “allied with Nazi Germany” and “occupied by Nazi Germany” such as Serbia, Greece, Norway, etc. with major resistance movements. Perhaps modify it with shading?

Saker:
As I have written so many times, there is no “Novorussian” solution to this war, nor is there a “Ukrainian” one. For Novorussia to be free, the Ukraine must be de-nazified and for the Ukraine to be de-nazified, the Anglo-Zionist Empire must be beaten back, if not beaten down. At the very least, Uncle Sam needs to lose his iron grip over the Ukraine and the EU.
But there is what I call a Neo-Vladimirovian solution which is a partition of Ukraine on as favorable a basis to the southeast as possible in respect to lingustic differences, which in my mind is from Transnistria north through Zhitomir, and the replacement of Kiev as a capital region with a city further southeast, such as Kremenchug, Dnipropetrovsk, or Zaporzhia which would be renamed St. Vladimir to emphasize the new beginning of the Russian Spring. I believe this is in part what is behind the DNR claiming the territorial and historical legacy of the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Republic and the slogan “HA KNEB” (sorry, no Cyrillic keys!). The DNR obviously stands ready to partion Ukraine in an equitable manner with an understanding partner based out of Lviv, which is the actual power base of the Orange faction.
The facts of a religious and lingustic based ethnogenesis in Galicia, Transcarpathia, and Volhynia are so far along at this point, and the failure of Soviet de-Nazification and de-Polonization from 1944-1991 so obvious that at some point political realism has to come into play and the regions seperated to go their own way. The Russian world functioned just fine without these regions from the 1300’s up until 1944.
This proxy war between the US and Russia is not over Donbass independence or control of Kharkov or Russian land access to the Crimea. It is over whether the Galician based state will control Kiev and have sea access at Odessa. The US and EU would be glad to have a border settled on or near the Dnipr that would cause the permanent loss of Odessa and Kiev to the Russian world. They have informally offered this several times already in various Foreign Policy journals. They will of course gladly take the whole of Ukraine as well if Russia were to be so foolish as to abandon Crimea and Donbass. Don’t forget the starting Western position in February 2014 before the fall of Yanukovich was an independent Uniate based Galicia/Transcarpathia. Any settlement beyond the old Austrian-Russian border is a victory for the re-expansion West.
oooooooooooo Andrew NO NO NO
You would leave Odessa in the section governed by Galicia? are you mad?
It’s like forcing a girl to marry her rapist.
And Transcarpathia is Hungarian and Ruthyn, and depopulated itself to escape getting drawn into this war. They don’t support Galicia either, and in fact suffer all sorts of discrimination with Lviv-sent mayors etc. In fact they’ve several times asked Hungary to take them back. But that would open a can of worms with 5 other ex-Hungarian areas perhaps waking up to this idea. Transylvania at least, which would bring trouble with Romania, which is stirring trouble in Moldova already, and if you take out Transnistria which adjoins Moldova……… it starts to get very messy very fast.
Anyway “…from Transnistria north through Zhitomir, and the replacement of Kiev as a capital …” is a line which cuts Odessa off from Galicia and gives that area no sea access at all, so on your estimation it won’t suit EUSA anyway. So they won’t allow it.
You can’t split the country into 22 republics. It needs to remain one country, but with a DECENT and SENSIBLE government, and local (oblast by oblast) rights for things like what language the schools will teach. The central government would give each the money and up to them if they spend it on roads or parades.
Kat Kan:
Go back and read more carefully what I said. I said the US and EU have a goal of retaining Odessa with Galicia, not that is a desirable outcome from the view of Russia or Donbass or Odessa.
Transcarpathia is very similar to Galicia. The Hungarians are a minority there, and the Rusyns/Ukrianians have not asked to be annexed to Hungary. The 128th Mountain Brigade is ably supported and manned by the locals to fight against Donbass. Porkochoco got 62% of the vote there, more than everywhere except Lviv, Vinnitsiya, and Kiev, and the parliamentary returns were for Bloc Porkochoco (27%) and for the Yatseniuk (25%) faction and Liashko (7%) and Svoboda almost at 5%.

Ukraine doesn’t need to remain one country any more than Czechoslovakia did.
Zakharcheno’s leg is a worry… he was better than this a while back, I am sure. Looks like plaster on his leg? he didn’t have this earlier, maybe he’s had to have more surgery. It’s been 2 months since he got shot, he really should be better than this by now.
Here he is struggling up a very big hill on crutches to the memorial at Saur Grave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RA7ROhUm5KE#t=13
Ukie media had the cheek to say he was drunk at the Victory Day parade, proving it by playing the video in slow motion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcjXg4osMIE
I noticed he seemed to be in some pain too.
I really hope he listens to his doctors – he does not need to be present everywhere for morale purposes.
He’s done his duty by Victory Day – now he needs to be sensible.
The struggle of the small (by the number) great people (by the will and the spirit) of Donbass is really heroic.
In my opinion, the sacrifice the people made, fighting for their freedom, for their country, for the right to live peacefully in a prosperous land is admirable. More than that, their fight against the brown plague has perhaps allowed Europe, Russia and the the rest of the world to avoid a new war.
They are the true Heroes, and Zakarchenko could be the president of a future federal Ukraine, with two or three parts (Novorussia, Little Russia, Transcarpathia)
I have been spending some time on idiotic comment boards, pro-Kiev posters with not an original thought between them and nothing too absurd or blatantly photoshopped for them to post. Euromaidan, and like that.
And funny thing. Lots of bashing of Strelkov, Givi, Motorola, Putin, but the Z word never, ever appears.

At the Declaration, on the video can´t see if Zakharchenko was present.
With great emotion Pushilin reads the Declaration and request.
The political Leadership of DPR present.
What has prompted this, as the Minsk 2 negotiations were about to move into the Subgroup negotiations. Merkel visited Moscow on the 10th, and had some tough words.
Kerry and Lavrov just finished a “Love In”, in Sochi.
Large nubers of Humvees are massing around Donetsk, numerous Smerch MLRS on train convoy to Novorossia, these systems are simply City Killers.
Has the -relation of forces on the ground changedso dramatically that only a direct intervention by Russia can make feasible the survival of Donbass Autonomous republics?
Or is it time to stop point lank the Nazi Fascist Junta Kiev?
SORRY to disappoint, but that is 2014… exactly a year ago., Good to see it again though
Foiled by FortRuss, as the news item has today’s date. Sorry.
Wishful thinking, also.
Pressure on the ground is growing also. Lugansk remains the weak link.
Mozgovoi and Plotnitsky still at odds, and the running complaints of poor
military strategy and leadership, as the Debaltsevo Battle unfolded.
Still a long way away from a true Army.
Only the North Wind will ensure a good Defense, and an eventual march on to the
Administrative Borders of the Republics.
Mozgovoi acts for Strelkov, still fomenting mutiny in between speeches about the sacredness of unity and how it guides his every action.

Hope your Son’s will never go to War
Rough translation From Yandex,
Ballad of a Mother,
A. Dementyeva, E. Martynov music.
Aged mother for thirty years,
And news from the son.
But she continues to wait
Because he believes, because the mother.
And hopes that she…
For many years, as the war ended
For many years, as have all come back
In addition to the dead, in the ground lay.
How many are there in some distant village
Boys Bezus not come yet.
Once sent to the village in the spring
A documentary film about the war.
All came to the movies old and young
Who has known war and who didn’t know.
Before a bitter human memory
Spread the hatred of the river.
It was hard to remember.
Suddenly from the screen the son looked at his mother.
The mother heard the son in the same moment
And swept maternal Creek.
Alex, Alexis, son.
Alex, Alexis, son.
Alex, Alexis, son.
As if her son could hear.
He rushed out of the trench into combat,
Was a mother to cover it up.
Everyone was afraid – what if he falls,
But through the years raced son forward.
Alex shouted countrymen,
Alex asked, run.
The frame was replaced, the son left to live,
Asks the mother about her son to repeat.
Asks the mother about her son to repeat,
Asks the mother about her son to repeat.
And in the attack he runs again
Alive, healthy, not injured, not killed.
Alex, Alexis, son.
Alex, Alexis, son.
Alex, Alexis, son
As if her son could hear.
Home all it seemed to her movie
All were waiting for now now out the window
In the midst of a disturbing silence
Knocks her son from the war
We have seen the terrific (from terror) and horrific battles in Donbass, but how to put it into words that humanize the real damage done to human beings, not to pieces of meat laying on a forgotten field.
The Russian and Soviet Poets have learned to express emotions of such depth and intensity that it would do well to so many of us to learn much more of the Literature.
In my former post the song Ballad of a Mother, also known as “Alex, Alexis, son.”
“Алексей, Алешенька, сынок”.
The scene behind is that of the Ukrainain Celebration, sung by an Ukrainain Singer, born in Magadan. Two years ago, there was much Brotherhood, still respect and familiarity, celebration of the Victory Day, in Kiev.
Is that still possible? Much suffering still to come, sadly.
And the Russian Soul, the Slavic Spirit knows too much of this.
Another fine Russian Singer, who embodies that Russian Soul, Elena Vaenga.

and these visions do not depress, they exult the human spirit, and the unconditional spirit
of sacrifice of the Russian Nation in particular.
I read recently a comment or article, in it there is conversation a russian and a German, thery say.
Out of 10 Germans today, none would answer the call to war.
Out Of 10 Russians, 9 would be in the frontlines.
May your Children never have to go to War,
Good Luck
“The murder of DNR commanders, whether this was the result of internal conflicts or Ukronazi covert operations, appears to have been stopped.” [the Saker]
Apparently the Saker is not going to answer my request for an explanation of this statement. Can anybody else tell me what DNR commanders have been murdered? I seem to have slept through it.
It seems too significant an allegation to just let lie. Can anybody name three? I dimly recall someone call sign Gypsy a year ago but don’t remember details. Other than that I can think of nobody dead and nobody missing.
(Mind you, I’m a bit restrictive about my definition of “field commander.” I think at some point you have a “leader.” Is there a “commander” of a platoon? A three-man RSG? I won’t go below a company commander in my own usage, and always include the “company” as a qualifier.)
No happy birthday for Donbass.
Russia has been to Ukraine much like Britain has been to Ireland.
Donbass is to Ukraine much like Northern Ireland is to Ireland. Just as Northern Ireland is inhabited by die-hard non-Irish loyalists to the British Crown who likely wish that Britain would simply invade and reconquer and put an end to the whole Irish “statelet” once and for all,—so Donbass and Novorussia are populated by many persons [I think sometimes called “sovoks”] who are neo-stalinist and/or neo-monarchist, die-hard loyal to any government in Moscow, and wishing that Russia would invade and reconquer all of Ukraine and simply put an end to the Ukrainian “statelet” once and for all.—I remember, right after Poroshenko was elected president of Ukraine, he invited the Novorussians to lay down their arms [meaning, just stop shooting, not surrender]
and simply sit down and talk and negotiate. At that time they refused, because they really wanted Russia to annex their territory, dismember and obliterate Ukraine completely, etc.
Question arises: why are the Irish so “anti-British”? After all, they now speak the same language,
English [after British persecution of indigenous Irish Gaelic in the 1600’s to 1800’s drove that language into near-extinction], the leader for Irish independence De Valera probably spoke English and knew only some phrases of Gaelic, and what is the Irish culture or distinction about,
just stories about leprechauns and fairies one might say.—But no, I think the motivator for the Irish sense of separateness from the British lies in the collective distinct and separate Irish experiences in the past, experiences which the British population simply does not share.
I think the overall sense of Ukrainian separateness and distinction from the Muscovite-Russians
also lies in the collective distinct and separate Ukrainian experiences in the past and up to the present, like, being the prime targets of a crusade by the Roman Church using Poles as proxies
during the 1500’s to 1600’s, being the prime targets of slave-trade and raids by Muslim powers,
Tatars and Turks, with unique relations developing between Ukrainians and those two sometimes enemies and sometimes allies, and then, the Cossack system, where common people basically went out, learned military skills and formed forces to smash up first the slave-trade centers like in the Crimea, at Kaffa-city, and then rebelling against Roman Catholic oppression, with some compromise reached in the form of that “demonized” Greek Catholic [uniate] Church. Now, this formed a distinct experience which the so-called Great Russians never shared. Back around 1654 as I understand, when the Ukrainians created an independent Cossack state but seemed stumped at the question of sovereignty, because the common monarchist concept of that time is that every legitimate state had to have a monarch at its head, and who was to be the monarch
for the Ukrainians? They were actually negotiating with the Turkish sultan. The Muscovite tsar convened a “congress of the land” a “zemskyi sobor” over the issue, which was a rarity in Russian politics. Probably wiser minds in Muscovy were advising caution about any attempted union with the Ukrainians, after all several centuries of water had flowed under the bridge.
Hints of trouble appeared right at the outset. The Ukrainians expected the tsar to swear an oath to them that he would abide by any agreement, and the tsar simply refused to swear because in the Muscovite system his subjects were “kholopy”, his property, thralls, slaves, and there was no
point in his swearing any oath to people whom he regarded as his future property. So there it was, like North Korea and South Korea,—a starting clash of two systems, in some ways absolutely diametrically opposite, not compatible in any organic way. Of course, there were those
persons among Ukrainians who, like everywhere else, did not care about “personal freedom” and were happy to be subservient and slaves, as long as the given master was very big and strong and victorious. And then there were the dissidents who abhorred serfdom, slavery to anyone,
and sought to recreate what they considered their lost “place under the sun”, going at least back to the realm and civilization of Kyivan Rus.—I remember reading an article where an indigenous king told the first visiting Europeans, the bigger and stronger ones than he, that the Europeans and he could be genuine friends, but only if there existed a certain respectful distance between his people and the whites. The same holds between Ukrainians [as they wish to be called today, and maybe yesterday they were called “Rusychi” or maybe before that even called “Skiths” and “Sarmatans”, etc., people essentially from the steppes],—and the modern Russians.
And as another issue, who are the “Slavs”? Are they truly some genetically-determined race,
or are they simply those persons who happen to speak a Slavonic language for whatever historical reason, but who are otherwise no single race at all and never were any “pure” race?
I see you have drank deeply at the polluted “Ukrainian” nationalist well. The Empire did it’s work well with the phony “history” books they funded in Ukraine.
Our impression is that most profoundly and extremely evil currents in behavior among nations or various states and empires are caused by secretive, non-governmental societies. The Pol Pot regime of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, forming one of the creepiest and bloodthirstiest regimes in human history, seems to have had links to secretive societies in France. Hitler & Co. had links to the secretive societies in Germany like the Order of Thule. We came across allegations that Stalin & Co. had links to secretive shadowy international “banksters” who supported the USSR as presumably a kind of social experiment on the population of Eastern Europe. We have come across allegations of secretive devil-worshiping alchemical societies infiltrating the Roman Catholic Church, a least one Pope accused of being a kind of “warlock”.
Who really knows?—But if Russia honestly wants to confront the “deepest evil in this world” it cannot do so successfully under Stalin’s banner, and we do not believe that Ukrainian nationalism is the source of ultimate evil on this planet, just not so. And thus Russians and Novorussians are wasting their time and effort as they contribute to the destabilization and the devastation of Ukraine.—The “bear” is tangling with a nest of infuriated hornets, not a beehive brimming full of honey. Contrary to Brzezinski’s contentions, Ukraine would be no indispensable crown jewel of a “Russian empire” but would be like a spear through the chest of any Russian empire. Ukrainian nationalists turn to USA and NATO for protection against the spectre of resurgent neo-stalinist Russia, while the secretive “neo-con” societies in the USA seek to mobilize Ukrainians to fight and die in the trenches for them.—So this is bad all around.
But we think that Ukrainians are here to stay, will be around in one form or another, under one name or another, for as long as humankind exists. You cannot beat them away, you cannot pray them away, you cannot exorcise them. They would want a non-stalinist and non-chauvinist Russia, where government follows the precepts laid down by Lord Jesus, that in His kingdom of heaven the leaders are to serve the followers and not lord it over them [see Matthew 23:11-12; Mark 9:34, 10:42-44; Luke 22:25-26]. Otherwise, Russia can be as big and strong and Orthodox as it likes. However, any true Ukrainian nationalist would presumably wish whatever was best for his nation, which would not be any self-sacrifice for any outside “empire” be its headquarters in Moscow or in Berlin or in Washington DC. Armed and vigilant neutrality and nonalignment, in charge of its own space, would obviously be the best,—like Switzerland in Western Europe, where neutrality has worked well for the Swiss for some 200 years, since 1815, the Congress
of Vienna.
Switzerland is even multilingual, but nobody there is foaming at the mouth that such and such
of the languages is really “artificial” and should not exist. Switzerland is a federation, but we do not
have Germany seeking to annex German-speaking portions, or Italy seeking to annex Italian-speaking portions, etc. That is why federation works for the Swiss, but would be just a prelude
to disappearance for Ukraine. Switzerland is in a different neighborhood.
Now by the way, what is “phony history”? Maybe most of history is “phony”? I read a very strange
but intriguing article once at the website called “Syncretic Studies” or something like that, aligned
more or less with this pro-Russian site. In that article the author was arguing that most of what passes for history of the “West” is based on forgeries and simply imagination. During the Renaissance, in Italy, there was much commotion about landed estates, and claimants who could prove the greatest antiquity of basis for their claim tended to prevail in court. So therefore stories were simply made up to create “antiquity”. Thus, the article argued that all of the so-called historical works of the ancient Greek Herodotus were simply the product of the fertile imagination of some Renaissance Italian forgers. Well… Who really knows? An article was even cited in this blog, pointing to a Ukrainian author who argued that much of the official history of Russia has been contrived through deliberate efforts of monarchs like Peter the Great and tsaritsa Catherine,
how they were for whatever reason ashamed of the Finnish and Asian roots of their realm [not that there is anything wrong with being Finnish or Asian], and so they invented “history”. Again,
who really knows? We as members of the general public have no way to independently investigate and verify what is passed down. There is always an element of trust and faith.
This is so even for the majority of scientific information, that we take whatever “scientists” tell us
they discovered as the truth.
I think you are confusing having an experience and reading a book.
May 11th is also my mother’s birthday. Ariadna Nikolaievna Narishkina née countess Muraviev – May 11, 1913, Moscow, Russia – November 25, 1985, Geneva, Switzerland.
Today I found an announcement that Ukraine is changing its ruler.
The new ruler’s name is US Senator John McCain.
It could be that he will get Ukraine as “his domain” and so becomes the Governor of Ukraine as a reward for his excellent work for the US Militairy Complex Corporation.
On the other hand it could be that US want to get rid of him before the end of the Iran Talks in Geneva, thus no more shouting by Senator John McCain of “Bomb Iran, bomb, bomb, bomb”.
His Masters must have changed their minds for the moment with regards to Iran.
And they are may be recuperating as well.
So Mr. McCain might be put there where his mouth is: in Ukraine, his future profit center then it seems that a US Senator is a business unit. It is not know if queen Victoria Nuland is still owner of Ukraine after his nomination as adviser.
His formal function is called “Adviser to Chocolate King”. Remember that the Vietnam war started with “advisers” ?
In the meantime the UkroNazis are eliminating every opposition and critics.
The Adviser’s script will probably be conform the script his confrère Paul Bremmer used in Iraq/Bagdad. More chaos, more riots, more shooting, more killing, more murder, more divide and conquer and at the end of the plan: the total chaos = mission accomplished.
Happy days also for the Baltics and maybe Poland and some other countries which are trying to steel land from each other at every suitable occasion as well.
Then the Governor will step down from “his throne”, very rich probably and satisfied, and will enjoy the rest of his days in some place in Arizona. By the way Arizona, a country that was land of Mexico and was also stolen by US in the past; it never ends with US Corporation, does it ?
Even then he still cannot tell you were Ukraine is.
I agree about the military parades. Of course the scale and technology of the Moscow parade was much more impressive, but the militiamen in Novorossiya had only recently fought, bled and died for their independence from the Empire and the right to maintain their Russian identity. Despite their lack of equipment, being hugely outnumbered and their enemies having the full backing of the Empire – they defeated all forces sent to subjugate them. That is what made their victory so impressive. It showed the true potential of the Russian fighting spirit once it has been awoken, even in an area as depressed and apathetic as the Donbass. If they can keep out the oligarchs and make real economic and spiritual changes last – then maybe some good can come out of this terrible war.
Most importantly, I think, they’ve provided an example to others across Europe and the world that the Empire can be beaten. If you have courage and principles and stand by them, you can defeat the Empire despite all the terror and violence they will throw your way, and despite their seemingly unlimited supply of resources. The Emperor has no clothes. The only option they’ll be left with is fuming in the Ziomedia that someone has dared to successfully resist! The militiamen in Novorossiya have truly earned my respect, and this was a parade with real contemporary meaning rather than just commemorating events that happened 70 years ago.
Congratulations to Novorossiya! From Ireland ;)
