George badly needs a new camera and he has launched a crowdfunding campaign to get one. He posted his appeal for support on this page:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/donbass-war-journalism-and-humanitarian-aid
Here is the full text of it:
Put yourself in the seat with us as we document the Ukrainian war in Donbass. I was the first western journalist writing about Ukraine from Donbass and the only one that has been here the entire time. I live here.
Over the past year, the one thing that has been made clear is the lack of unbiased western journalism and news coverage in Donbass covering the war. Kiev admits to propagandizing everything it releases to western media.
There have been no efforts to getting dedicated English language news video directly to western news and media from inside the LNR and DNR on a continual basis. Most efforts are geared for Russian speaking audiences first with English versions following as an afterthought.
Together we can change that!
What We Need & What You Get
We need funding for a news quality camera and accessories. With the camera, we will be able to bring substantial English language documentary video to the west and put you right there with us.
Our goal is to bring video footage to good news and alternative media websites that otherwise would not have access to video, documentaries, and commentary from Donbas in English direct to them- Free of Charge.
For the past year that’s where most of our own income has been going and we are not going to change that. We plan to continue helping the humanitarian effort in Donbass and expand on it by selling some of the news footage to news agencies. That will help fund the humanitarian effort locally on a continuous basis.
We have been fortunate enough to be involved in humanitarian aid and distributing medication locally. We are also painfully aware of what happens when aid doesn’t get to where it is needed. Together we can help change this for the better.
For the camera and the needed accessories, we will need $4500. This will cover all the transfer fees and give a complete news camera set up that is ready to go. We don’t need the top of the line options but do require a camera with a lot of versatility to gain war footage and do interviews that has high resolution and is still unobtrusive.
Funding beyond that will go into the humanitarian effort and help fund documentary work directly in between news events. Documentary work by itself is an expensive endeavor if just transportation costs are added in. We will take you directly to the places that are being affected hardest by the war and let people speak for themselves.
The Impact your Funding will Make
Your funding will make a large impact in western media by making quality video footage continuously available to websites you know and trust. Currently its the lack of direct English language news coverage from the war that is the biggest news about it in the west. If a picture is worth a thousand words how much are direct footage and witnesses from the scene worth when the alternative is Ukrainian propaganda?
With your funding it will become very hard to keep the real facts out of mainstream media because they will have to start looking at English language video from someone that has lived and reported from here the entire time. We will be providing quality news websites with interviews and asking their involvement on select interviews as we go. In many cases, this will mean the journalists you currently read will have input on the questions asked to the people shaping both the war and beginning of Novorussia.
Can we make an impact across the world together? The answer is yes, we can!
The Bakery Project
At the beginning of the Ukrainian war, Kiev started to blockade even critical medications like insulin and heart medications. When the fighting started it became a common practice for them to mine the grain fields across Donbass. By mid-summer, this happened in such a widespread pattern that it was easy to forecast a food shortage in Donbass through the winter and increasing until the next harvest happens. The fields had to be demined and thousands of acres remain unplanted today.
Nearby our location is a bread bakery that has been sitting idle for 2 years. The bakery is capable of providing bread for thousands of people continually if opened up again. Our plan to sell video footage to news agencies for resale originated in starting a self -sustaining humanitarian effort supported by news video footage sales.
This way the project may become self sustaining and help build the local economy by purchasing grain locally from farmers in need of cash, using the local grain mill, and hiring local people to work in the bakery itself. We will be able to provide a continuous supply of bread where it is needed.
This is ultimately what your generosity is funding. Contrary to the Minsk Agreements Kiev is still blockading food and medication from entering Donbass. The aid Russia is giving will never be enough.
Together we can make a difference.
About Us
For the past year, I have been writing breaking news and background articles about the events in Ukraine and Donbass including the earliest articles about the Ukrainian Nationalist coup in Kiev. I’ve provided a lot of background articles so journalists could get their heads around what was really happening here.
When Kiev started mobilizing tanks and soldiers to Donbas I wrote the first articles to appear in the west. Starting with a mid-February article detailing why the war was coming and genocide with it I wrote about the importance of understanding the Ukrainian political program and how the Banderavites could not change.
I broke the news about the beginning of the war from the Good Friday attacks in Odessa through the Easter attacks in Slavyansk. We spoke to people on the ground throughout the region the whole time getting their real opinions out during the build-up to the referendum on May 11th and afterward.
I wrote the first detailed articles about the Odessa massacre to appear in the west and follow-ups as Kiev’s complicity came into focus through evidence.
After that time we were able to provide first hand coverage of what it was like to be in an area under attack and then under the control of Pravy Sektor, the Natz Guardia, Donbass Battalion, etc. We gave first hand accounts of what it was like to be in a zone that was slated to be cleansed and only got a reprieve when the battle that turned the tide of the Ukrainian war happened literally one bus stop away from us.
When I’ve written about any Russian invasion never happening it’s because the great “stealth invasion” of August 2014 would have knocked over the tomato plants in my garden to happen at all. In articles from that battle site, I took photos clearly showing how close the Russian border was to the site and noted my own location was directly in line of sight to it. In other words the invasion didin’t happen.
I was the first western journalist to do invasive passport checks on soldiers in Donbass documenting where they were from. I believe I am the only western journalist to do weapons checks for fabrication dates. These both provide the necessary proofs against a Russian invasion and modern Russian weapons in Donbass.
During this time, my wife has become very involved and helps in research and documentation. Together we’ll be making the documentaries. Together we will do the interviews. Making the humanitarian effort succeed is personal to her. She grew up in Donbass and we have many relatives and friends here.
Risks & Challenges
It’s a war zone. The risks are real. The death and destruction are real and so are the crimes against humanity being perpetrated here. The challenges are multifold. Interviewing people and trying to protect their dignity or demand for privacy is paramount. We won’t victimize our neighbors further any more than you would your own under these circumstances. Getting the truth out will happen but it can be done respectfully with people that have been hurt in this war already.
I think that is another point that separates us from other efforts. We were here before all of this started and we’ll be here after it all ends.
Maintaining our own safety while collecting the documentary stories, war footage, and interviews takes planning and coordination. We already have that support structure in place as well as field helmets and vests. Part of the coordination effort is to know where the front line is at all times so you don’t get caught on the wrong side which is bad, or in between which is worse.
We are planning on documenting the humanitarian aid effort that will stem from this effort after it gets going. Ultimately that is the larger goal for us. We feel that by providing the video proof of delivery on that end and with a little help we can build a close to self sustaining effort quickly. Initially we wanted to do this as a private effort. The situation made that impossible.
With only the camera in hand it will take a little time but we will be able to make a difference on that end. Our goal is to reopen a local bread bakery and bake humanitarian loaves. This was the initial reason behind the fund raising effort.
How fast this part starts is directly dependent on whether or not our initial goal is reached to purchase the camera and how far beyond that donations will go. If we fall short we will work with what we have to start with. This is too important not to get started.
If we go past our goal the total of the funds will determine how they will be allocated. If there is enough to reopen the bakery then we can get started with that project directly. If there is more then we can put more money directly into purchase of medications.
If there is extra funding but not enough to start this effort we will put funds into other existing local aid we are working with. This way the aid reaches the people it needs to.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you want to help but can’t contribute please ask people you know to get the word out. Use the idiegogo share tools. The more people that help the lighter the load will be. Help by putting this throughout your social media.
Remember the closer we get to the goal the harder it is to reach. People get complacent when the finish line’s real close and it looks like we’ ll finish the race a winner. Please remind your friends as the campaign winds down to consider donating.
I encourage everybody do donate as much as you can to help George Eliason work *for us all* in the Ukraine!

I assume you have – by now – seen this slanted diatribe from Huffington Post.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/18/russian-troops-ukraine_n_7305340.html
Ariana Huffington will be judged before history for such an article appearing in a website that still sports her name – an article that conveniently ignores the hundreds of American soldiers currently in the Occupied Western Ukraine, working in all capacities, from frontline combat, to training.
It is sad that the Russian and Novorossyan governments have seen fit to trade favors with the imperialists (not judging; they are in the front lines & may need the deals), just saying it is sad thay have not delivered more information on the American military role. Need we mention Nuland & McCain, among others, and the USA/NATO financial & military role – from day one – in overthrowing the last legitimate Ukraine government, the democratically elected and constitutional government of President Yanukovich.

This exposé, by former Congressman, American military veteran, medical doctor, and Presidential Candidate, Ron Paul, displays in graphic form how the American political system functions, and sadly, how far it has fallen.
http://www.prisonplanet.com/new-military-spending-bill-expands-empire-but-forbids-debate-on-war.html
Our friends throughout the world should understand the pathetic moral level of the American Oligarchs. This is how the nation’s Congress functions. It resembles the functioning of the Roman Senate, after the destruction of their Republic (on November 22… er- 44BC ish). Roman Emperor, Caligula, even had his horse placed in the Senate, with the right to vote. The Senators did not complain, although Caligula’s horse did notice the stench.
This is how the remnants of America’s once Democratic Republic function. Understand who you/we are dealing with. Congress votes vast War Funding, without the constitutionally required Declaration of War. Both political gangs serve the same masters. Notice: Congress hides vast sums of ‘discretionary’ $funds, in case they wish to bring war to yet someone else’s country.
And, through all this, Ariana Huffington and the website (the largest website in the world), still bearing her name, sees no evil, hears no evil, and speaks no truth.
If it wasn’t for the schyzophrenic Prison Planet, Ron Paul would have almost no way of communicating with American citizens. He is banned from the Nation’s official media.
Thank god for the Saker.is!

In New York, Samantha may issue tearfully moving heartfelt declarations on RtoP, Responsibility to Protect, with gold and guns, her friends’ friends, anywhere.
In Moscow, large honourable gentlemen pedantically recite the party line “no Russian tanks, no Russian soldiers here.” Why? It’s all in honor of the old bankrupt slogan of non-interference.
Bernais style propaganda versus Marxist propaganda. Which type works?
Meanwhile, the Kievans guffaw, as they show off their latest “Kidnapped” Russian POW’s.
I also read detailed interview with badly wounded Siberian soldier. Denying honor to the dead and wounded, in obeisance to a ridiculous non-interference principle is absurd and counterproductive.
Only the Fifth Column and the West gain from this policy.
If you look at the byline it says the source is American Press (Nataliya Vasilyeva) with “Vladimir Isachenkov and Jim Heintz in Moscow contributed to this report”. All of their reports in the past have been anti-Russia.
We can safely assume that Kerry/Nuland did not hear or get what they wanted from the recent discussions in Sochi and Voscow. We also know they have more money for a propaganda war. Expect more of the same.
A “slanted diatribe?” That is a factual report. No indication of fraud. No badmouthing of Russia either.
Unless someone thinks that it is wrong for Russia to send heavy support and “volunteers”. My only problem is that they did not come on February 23, 2014.
Russia, like any other great power thinks its not smart to do that (or at least admit to doing it).Considering that Novorossia gains from that help (if it exists) then I have no problem with their denials.Having said that.I too think its a mistake.I think if it does exist they should increase it and admit it.But I’m not in the Kremlin as Putin’s right hand man.So I’ll have to accept what they decide to do.
I see this, before its over, coming to a real war.I’m hoping that war can be contained to Federalist/Novorossian Ukrainians, fighting and destroying,Junta/fascist Ukrainians. But I’m not sure.I’m not even sure about the amount of military aid Donbass gets from Russia. If we listen to the West and Junta, its everything. If we listen to Novorossians and Russians its only volunteers and smuggled weapons. That most of the weapons are taken from the junta forces.Probably the Novorossians are 60% correct, and the junta 40% on that. But however much it is.It certainly in’t enough for what Novorossia needs, and Russia could provide to actually win this fight quickly.
It appears on one hand that what is going on in Russia is the age old dispute between the Westernizers and the Slavists for the direction to take Russia. But that’s really not true today. The old Russian Westernizers of Tsarist times wanted to Westernize Russia, so Russia would become developed and stronger. While today’s Westernizers are mostly in the pay of foreign powers.Wanting to weaken Russia,or actually destroy her.Certainly to gain power for their personal interests only.Big difference there. They are among the general public a small segment. If they somehow manage to get rid of Putin.I believe they won’t gain power. That a harder line nationalist group would gain the Kremlin instead.Like most of the Empire’s great planning,it would backfire on them.Instead of today being similar to 19th Russia’s political divide. Its closer to the 1920’s Western backed intrigues. We all know how badly that ended for those intriguers.
“Probably the Novorossians are 60% correct, and the junta 40% on that. But however much it is.It certainly in’t enough for what Novorossia needs, and Russia could provide to actually win this fight quickly.”
Why probably? On what do you base your odds?
Why not Novorossia, and Russia, are completely correct and honest, while the empire is lying through it’s teeth as always, over the decades I’ve been seeing this. I’ve seen these back and forth, truth and lie, things over the years where it turned out that the US was lying utterly.
I think if Russia decided to supply weapons and send troops to fight, it would do so, quite openly. Putin has no need to lie about this, or to act mostly ineffectively under a fog. What he said about Crimea rejoining Russia was, apparently, completely true. He’s a very up-front guy.
Certainly Russia conducts intelligence operations everywhere, covertly, as it will tell you — as it must. This is very different, however, for sending weapons and army troops for combat. There are volunteer fighters from Russia, and they do bring in some weapons from the ‘gray market’ or commercially obtained, etc., but the Russian state is not supplying them. Overwhelmingly weapons were either already in Novorossia, where they were made, or captured and possibly reconditioned. Ukraine was previously the forth largest arms seller in the world, after all.
So, contrary to the western media garbage, no, the truth does not lie somewhere in the middle every time the empire and MSM decides to put out dysinformation and call it debate or controversy.
Done
Just out of curiosity, why doesn’t the Kremlin fund such noble projects as these, wouldn’t in make a much more significant impact if these private enterprises were given the necessary aid to get them off the ground? I mean it would benefit Russia’s cause immensely as well as confound the efforts of the American media machine, so why reduce such loyal and reliable supporters to begging if Russia can afford 5k- 10k easily. Americas NGO’s are all very well funded and this makes all the difference in sustaining such a massive effort. Russia should financially support these guys as their efforts would benefit her the most. It is strange and illogical to accept this one sided support as normal.
You have 3 kinds of stories:
* propaganda or quasi-propaganda financed by state and oligarchs
* PR and stories for profit (advertisments)
* authentic stories made by people driven by various (mostly good) intentions to capture some of the “history” of this world.
What do you prefer to watch?
We see with Western sources, its hard if not impossible to tell which is which at first.Unless they identify their funding,or they are finally exposed. They could operate for months or years as propaganda agents without most knowing that.Certainly there are ways to see if they are biased sources (tone, style, grammar in stories, noticed disinformation, etc). But actually knowing if that comes from error, misplaced beliefs,or payment is harder to determine.
I ask myself that too.I think it is a horrible mistake that they don’t.Maybe it comes from the post-communist era,and them not wanting to be connected with propaganda buying like in the past. But for whatever reason,it is a mistake in my thinking that they don’t.
It’s a bad habit, I think. American leaders just do what their grandparents did, and so do Russian leaders. Since the time of Bernais, US leaders have mastered scientific psychological manipulation, while Russian leaders have been satisfied raising their fists, shouting out party or patriotic slogans.
The Russians must be burdened by Marxist ideology, which told them that you cannot just create a revolution, that it’s part of an unavoidable historical process.
Russian leaders move ponderously, freelancers are not favoured. US leaders are nimble; they see an opportunity, and they just send in a Kermit Roosevel, with a suitcase of dollar bills–one guy, with heavy state support was able to take over Iran.
Doing that would be unthinkable for the Kremlin; so, to free Donbass, a few volunteers led by Strelkov had to take the initiative. They held the fort until the state was just forced, by public opinion, to go along.
Matt come back to Earth please.
“…Russian leaders have been satisfied raising their fists, shouting out party or patriotic slogans. …”
Stalin just shouted slogans, did he? or did he carry out a revolution (started by others) that dragged Russia into the industrial world in 50 years, which took other places hundreds or years? and never mind the deaths — I am sure the Industrial Revolution killed more people in England than Stalin’s gulags did, only there was no enemy outside counting them.
USSR won the war with patriotic slogans did it? or with the flesh and blood patriotism of the 25 million people who died for that victory?
What happened was, the USA saw that revolution WORKS, how it leads to immense wealth — only they put a twist on it. They started doing revolution in other people’s countries, so the others would get the deaths and the USAians would get the wealth. Divide and conquer again — the means of production (death) separated and quarantined from the product (wealth).
“…with a suitcase of dollar bills–one guy, with heavy state support was able to take over Iran. …” so it was NOT ONE GUY. It was the state support that did it, not the suitcase. Money is worthless unless there is something or someone to buy with it. USA didn’t provide that — that had to be already there.
========
If you are talking of more recent events, it’s been the USA shaking fists and screaming slogans (“Putin did it” about everything). And Russia quietly, calmly and with good humour just telling it as it is. Oh and actually providing proofs.
Compare the joke NATO “showing the power” convoy through Europe, met in every country with “Go Home” slogans……….and the Victory Parade in Moscow with real genuine serious nuclear weapons, and the armies of 10 allies marching in unison.
I am not talking of the Soviet successes, I am talking of the ineffectiveness of stiff Marxist propaganda, as opposed to the evil efficiency of the Bernais propaganda.
Washington sent Kermit R., and he took over the Persian Empire, overnight.
Moscow should have sent Strelkov with Kermit style suitcases. They didn’t, and did not help him, because they do not think outside the box.
Russians really believed they had “partners” in the West, and too many still hope, against hope, that the West will see the light.
I know a fair bit about propaganda and manipulation, and could do it quite effectively, but it rubs me completely the wrong way, and I think is wrong (one of the reason living in the US drives me up the wall). So I don’t do that. The truth is important to me. I suspect that most Russians are like that.
Now, when you say ‘Marxist propaganda’ that makes little sense to me in this context. Even given that real Marxism was rare in the USSR, what they did was repeat in slogans and such what they believed was true (and often was, actually). The US, on the other hand, will knowingly repeat lies without hesitation, and have built much of the US economy on that. In general, USAians have very little moral sense or integrity.
Marxist propaganda (“MP”) may be truthful, but tends to be based on slogans. It’s pretty useless.
Bernais-style propaganda is based on images and sleight of hand. It works. Go see a perfect effective fraud at
http:[MOD:bad link removed]
When I say propaganda, I use the term in its original meaning of “ideas we want to spread”. When I say MP, I mean slogans on heroic peasants and workers, and patriotic soldiers, all probably true, but unlikely to lead to action.
The removed (faulty anyway) link is to an Australian TV expose of the long-debunked bellingcat version of the MH17 crash. For Matt it seems to be “ideas we want to spread”. ie propaganda he wants to propagate — it’s the third time he’s linked it. He says “it works”: so he must have fallen for it.
The origin of the term ‘propaganda’ is the Latin phrase Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide, Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. In English, in French, in German, in Italian, it still indicates publicity, advertising, and it’s neutral–it can be true or false.
Before the link, I wrote “Go see a perfect effective fraud.” Didn’t work on me, but it worked fine to get US and European readers on the US bandwagon after MH17.
You are making bad assumptions, Matt. That silly story, those videos, those fake interpretations of them, were NOT NEEDED to get anyone on the bandwaggon.
Less than 3 hours after the crash, Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, wrote on his Facebook page that the plane had crashed in after being hit by a missile fired from a BUK launcher.
At this stage the wreckage was still burning; the famous part with all the bullet/missile holes had not been found, there was NO EVIDENCE it had been shot down.It could have been a bomb on board, or it could have been an explosive decompression from bulkhead failure, etc etc. Within hours USA was screaming at top volume that the separatists had done with with equipment supplied by Russia. And all the other media and Presidents and Prime Ministers etc all followed through.
NOBODY queried that there was NO EVIDENCE, but Ukrainian SBU kept churning out fake photos, fake video, fake (wrong date, 3 conversations stitched together) audio etc etc.
The hysteria was total and immediate. There was no need to get ordinary people onto any bandwaggon about it; the politicians were already in. Then Russia twisted the same video to show it could not be a BUK going towards Russia, and suggested a radar plot that MAY have been another aircraft.
Ever since then the two main theories, with frills and additions, get trotted out every 3 or 4 weeks (a) it was a BUK from Russia (b) it was a BUK or missile from aircraft, from Ukraine. It is a game, as far as most normal people are concerned. The only extra bad thing it resulted in was more sanctions on Russia — for which the opinion of the ordinary people was not needed.
Now please stop wasting our time with this. It’s old hat, ancient history, gone, done, finished. Not even a good example of propaganda. Or even of a false flag.
George Eliason is more than just a journalist. I think he can be termed a historian. I highly recommend all his writings on OpEdNews which you can find by clicking here. By reading his deeply research articles, you will learn a great deal.
Boy, PT Barnum was right. There’s a sucker born everyday.
