A rare and interesting event: a “volley” launch of four submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBM – in this case the newest model “Bulava”) from a nuclear powered ballistic submarine (SSBN – in this case the newest model “Iurii Dolgorukii”). The launch took place in the White Sea and all the warheads reached their targets in the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East.
This volley is Putin’s response to the Pentagon’s hubris. The real MAD strength of both SuperPowers is in their submarine capabilities. The Bulava was publicly tested a few years back, but this volley indicates the robust power that missiles + subs deliver.
Dare the US replicate such a public test?
With all the naval failures, man-based and platformed-based, I think not.
What the US has is massive power it cannot implement effectively, small, medium or large.
Russia has the coup de grace weapons of MAD. It effectively, routinely demonstrates that no USA will exist should the Hegemon err in judgment.
As Putin said today at SPIEF, it is time for talks, comprehensive, serious talks.
The US shows real fear of Russia, too scared to even sit and talk with Putin.
So Russia just sent another invitation (4 of them) to the Pentagon, if not the WH.
The Generals talk. It’s time for the great White Chief (orange-tinted) to pick a location and talk to VVP.
Thanks for that perspective, Larchmonter.
Love that insight, that the US is too scared even to sit and talk. That makes sense. They’re total bullshitters now, it’s all they have left. Their greatest fear is to be revealed as empty.
quote: “Love that insight, that the US is too scared even to sit and talk. That makes sense.”
really? how does it make sense?
there is America ensconced in Syria in the Russian face. there is the USA bombing Syria, killing Syrians and threatening the Syrian government of serious consequences if it attempts to take back Syrian land.
there is the USA in China’s face, in China’s yard. how is that cowardly?
the American elites are insane…do they even understand fear?
I am looking forward to the Kim/Trump meeting. the outcome of that meeting may guide us on whether Trump/America is deal worthy relative to Russia. but again what would A Russian/American deal look like, its form?
when I look at the condition of the world as result of western European/American activity for 5 centuries now, our collective history I cant deal with what I see. I am a coward..I cant look at it. I cant look at Africa, and north East Africa, Latin America, India etc. white westerners have been rioting on planet earth for five centuries and counting, leaving only devastation, genocide, human de-evolution in their wake. can the world stand much more of this? I dont think so. sooner rather than later something truly horrific for humanity will give.
white westerners for the most part are lunatic, insane..as a result they do to themselves what they have always done to any population that could not defend itself. Americans are in agony from the depredations on them by their own elite. every year and increasing..1 in every 5 teenagers who die die from opium addiction. oh my!
at times I pinch myself to make sure life is real. when I wake up in the morning I am stunned that this is in fact human reality.
are the people who produce this reality deal worthy? they are not!
for sure they will not give up their imperialism. how can they? they will not stop creating planetary havoc. this is the insight on which the comments. opinion of PCR is based. but I have always known this, on my own..that there is probably no way at all to save humanity from the European eruption since 1492… for lack of a more convenient and accurate starting point
Russia has not been the way in the world of the USA and western Europe..which is why I am in the pages of the Saker.
I do not see Russia/Russians as saints. far from it. But Russia has not wreaked nearly the havoc on Earth as the Dutch and Belgians, Spanish and Portuguese, Germans and French, England, the USA. and Russia has often stopped the west in its depravity in the defenseless world. the mere fact of Russia’s existence as the USSR/Russia, powerful sources of opposition made a positive difference for the oppressed. the world of the oppressed would have been unimaginable by now were it not for the coming into existence of USSR/Russia, in nationalist frame, looking after Russia’s interest in the world, that brought Russian into the path of the hegemon
I would not like to see Russia go away, be consumed by the west. that would not be in the best interest of humanity.
so I watch and point out that westerners are beyond the pale..the western elite, middle classes, most of ordinary
western people..all are incapable of reasonable, humanist thought.
they cannot give it up..their exploitation of the world. they will consume it all unless they are stopped. they will make no deal with Trump. and if they do, they are incapable of honoring it. all they are, depend on their exploitation of the world. they would have to revolutionize themselves to make a deal acceptable to the Russians and the world. they are not capable of that.
I dont see that they are cowardly. I see that they are insane, developmentally arrested, utterly insecure, violent to their cores..product of their evolutionary process. they are part of the human species, evolved, mutated off the fist humans who were African. yet their process of change in the European ice has made them what they are.
Russia too is of the same evolutionary process: what makes for the difference between Russia and western Euros?
and why do some Russians at least wish to see themselves as westerners, wrapped up in the western bosom, to be westerners, when the difference between western Europeans and Russians ought to be cherished?
the spirit of Pushkin ought to be the way forward. write in Russian was his way. I am Russian so I speak and write Russian..making a codification of the language of the people, setting up Russian Independence from the French.
Russia is a critical nation in the world, more than important.. critical. Russia must indeed look after itself and to do so it must not concede to the hegemon. western capitalism, imperialism, like homosexuality, is its own end, its own extinction. Russia must look to itself and to the progressive and positive evolutionary elements in the life, from the dying capitalist failure
Quote: “As Putin said today at SPIEF, it is time for talks, comprehensive, serious talks.
The US shows real fear of Russia, too scared to even sit and talk with Putin.”
what would Russia/America sit down and talk about?
if they made a deal what would that deal look like, shape and from..what would it contain?
by interest do they haver anything to talk about?
by interest what can america compromise on?
what does Russia want and need from the USA..and can America concede whatever it is?
Talks look a dim prospect to me…I cant see a way out save war or american decline ordinary status..which in time would render talks unnecessary.
will american accept such a resolution? I doubt it! so war at some point!
there is of course the option of Russian capitulation…PCR implication of Russia becoming and American vassal. is that a possibility?
interesting
interesting!
I was impressed by the spaciousness of the submarine interior as we saw it in the video. It looked quite comfortable – apart from the hatches, which logically are as small as possible to maximize their ability to resist huge water pressures in the event of flooding.
Did you recorded the interval time?
Around 6 seconds. Considering the weight of Bulava by 37 metric tonns per piece, the submarine stabilzation during salvo must be solved in some clever way {gyroscope, water balast and some magic].
Congratulation to another milestone in submarine armament.
Similar operation was done in Soviet times in 1991 with 12 rockets, US did it with “önly” 4 rockets few decades ago.

Terrifying.
Ashes, ashes!
We all fall down.
“Heartless powers try to tell us what to think
If the spirit’s sleeping, then the flesh is ink.
And history’s page, it is thusly carved in stone
The future’s here, we are it, we are on our own.
If the game is lost then we’re all the same
No one left to place or take the blame.
We will leave this place an empty stone
Or this shinning ball of blue we can call our home
So the kids they dance, they shake their bones
And the politicians are throwing stones
Singing ashes, ashes all fall down, ashes, ashes all fall down”
–“Throwing Stones” by the Grateful Dead.
Mentioned this article to a former, ex-UK Submarine Fleet WO colleague. His (presumably knowledgeable) comment was that such an action is “very difficult”, and that “back in the Polaris days” of the UK Trafalgar-class boats, the shortest “safe” interval between launch (of the far lighter A3 – 16 tonnes), was a more sedate 15 to 20 seconds, and “ideally” 30 seconds.
In reality that would give the attack boat a very long 6 minutes to launch all 12, maybe 3 minutes (with the possibility of significant hull damage). Seeing as the Borei boats carry 16 RSM-56’s, and if that one per 1 1/2 seconds ripple was sustainable, then “in principle” all 16 could be on their way within less than half a minute – which is short enough to “get them off” from a shallow depth, and still give time to dive / get out of the area, prior to the arrival of countermeasures.
Did you recorded the interval time?
Yes, that is amazingly fast.
stabilzation during salvo must be solved in some clever way
I was wondering about that too and I even allowed myself a creeping suspicion that maybe the filmed sequence was rehearsed and not during the real launch. After all, when you toss 40tons of weight through the water, there must be some basic Newtonian mechanics at work. Dunno, I am not a submariner and I never had any submariner friends or colleagues.
Any idea?
Cheers,

Guessing. After the missile leaves the tube the tube fills with water presumably. Also there are possibly balancing ballest tanks to account any further adjustment. Just a guess based upon how it worked with launching torpedoes from submerged submarines. Also, these subs are huge, 1000s of tons, 37 tons (minus the weight of the water that fills the missile tube) to 10000 is a very small amount.

You are correct, indeed 16 rockets, sorry.
Operation Behemoth
On 6 August 1991 at 21:09 Novomoskovsk, under the command of Captain Second Rank Sergey Yegorov, became the world’s only submarine to successfully launch an all-missile salvo, launching 16 R-29RM (RSM-54) ballistic missiles of total weight of almost 700 tons in 244 seconds (operation code name “Behemoth-2”). The first and the last missiles hit their targets; the remaining missiles were intentionally caused to self-destruct in flight.

24 sec , unbelievable .
A fascinating example of Russian Federation defensive power. ..the world must be made aware of it is becoming. necessarily offensive as the West, shackled by a militarily frozen propaganda media, ignores present facts as if reality is a lie.
In fact the U.S. expensive plans to rewrite all histories are going effectively forward from the erasure of the real .
Total surveillance mean total access, means total removal of International law, not safety.
