I just came across an interesting, if old (2016) video. According to this (Russian language) article, it shows a Syrian Army position attacked by a ISIS suicide bomber. Amongst the Syrians, there is one Russian Special Operations (other sources say that he was from the Naval Infantry – probably the latter first and then into the Special Operation Forces) solider who holds his position even while all the others run. His name is Andrei Timoshenkov. According to several sources (including the Russian Wikipedia) the reason why Timoshenkov decided to stand his ground was the humanitarian convoy (other sources say that it was a humanitarian aid distribution point) located right behind the Syrian checkpoint. It is hard to say whether this explanation is correct or not, but what is undeniable, is that he stood his ground while the others fled. He stood alone and sacrificed his life rather than retreat. His courage forced the suicide bomber to detonate his car too early to inflict any damage on the humanitarian convoy.
This reminds me of another incident during the war against Georgia in 08.08.08 when one single Russian Airborne Forces solider forced and entire convoy of Georgians to stop:
Anyway, here is the 2016 video from Syria:

The Saker
Words will not do this extremely brave soldier justice, I am too old to be fighting but would prefer to be fighting with this soldier that fighting against him, he and other Russian soldiers would always be looking out for your back, you would feel safe fighting with them.
R.I.P. brave soldier.
That is true.
NO ! Was he killed ? I haven’t seen that .
the event took place during the 2016 ill fated offensive carried out by syrian troops towards the Tabqa airbase, which, at that time was under control of daesh; the car bomb was part of the general counter-offensive against the syrian spearhead.
They make the word “honour” respectable again. I only can salute them with all the respect I can show.
My sympathy goes to their families and friends. They grief for their deaths but they can be proud of them. I would for sure.
I recall that video when it first appeared.
Russian soldiering is of a grade or three above most all militaries.
They have proven it time and again.
Heroic men. Fighting the enemies of humanity.
it is said to see this soldier dying for someone incompetence, there is a failure element in this incident. this car should not come so close. who’s responsible ?
Last night, four more Russian advisers with Syrians at Deir ez Zor were killed in an “ISIS” attack on their artillery position.
Who is responsible? US has given ISIS, time and time again, especially when Russians are with the Syrians, coordinates, Intel and cover. How else but out there in that terrain of the East are where the Russians get killed? It has gone on from the beginning of the liberation of Deir ez Zor, Mayadin, al Kamal.
US military + ISIS vs Russians on the ground. The toll is stunning. A General, several Colonels, and plenty of servicemen-advisers, not counting the Wagner PMC losses.
Time has come for Kalibrs and bombers to visit upon the “enemy” of Russia at several of its 20 bases.
It’s not good enough to kill 43 ISIS as payback as they did last night. The proper fighting of war is to hit strategic assets, not just tactical units.
For the record, it seems that the report from MOD was last night, referring to a battle on the 23rd. The dead already back and memorialized in Russia today or yesterday from a gathering of reports.
One might think it was an attack engineered by the US to embarrass Putin at SPIEF.
Nearly everything in Syria seems to have overlays of geopolitical meanings.
For certain, the delay in the report of the loss of 4 men and 5 seriously wounded was “political”.
Also, note the NYT decided to write a deep story on the February massacre in East Syria where scores of Wagner PMC and over a hundred others were butchered in the wide open by “coalition” air power. That seems to really resonate with the Hegemonists like Pompeo, Trump, Pence and the official Russophobes at the NYT. Their idea of a great defeat of Russian military, we can suppose.
My mistake: it is said should be it is sad instead.
