It refers only to a “leaked report” of some Iranian officials – but apparently this has not been confirmed (or denied, for that matter) by Iranians. So, who knows whether it is true or not. While I would be inclined to doubt it, let’s see whether there is any follow-up … or whether the story dies its natural death.

It is becoming more clear that Washington plans to expand its war in the Middle East. The senior Senator from Kentucky is scheming, along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, to bypass normal Senate procedure to fast-track legislation to grant the president the authority to wage unlimited war for as long as he or his successors may wish.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Local sources in the city of Mosul in Western Iraq have disclosed that the number of the ISIL militants coming from the western countries has declined, media reports said.
“The ISIL’s decision to reduce the salaries of its foreign militants by half has immensely impacted them so much that some of them have left the terrorist group,” the Arabic-language al-Sumeria news channel quoted a local source as saying on Monday.
The source reiterated that the decline in the number of the foreign ISIL militants shows that their impetus is money and not Islam.
In a relevant development earlier this month, the Russian Sputnik news agency reported that it will take a little time but the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is approaching its end.

Setting things up for the next president no matter who it is to carry on. America needs a revolution more than any other country on the planet. Russia watching is fine but the real work that needs to be done is in America. WE know Russia doesn’t seek world dominance or war. America does. The last person to harbor such ambitions was Hitler. Those not along for the ride should start organizing and starting some sort of no war. Maybe we could start a Say no to War Board here and a newsletter. Lord knows there is enough talent. Or maybe some people are already in an anti war group or veterans group against war and can start there and form a United Front Against War. Maybe we could start with Say No to NATO. It is the military arm of US corporate and state power. And we should get rid of these private military contractor’s they cost more in the end, often causing hostilities sureptitously just to keep the money flowing and the war never ending. What mercenary contractor has an interest in seeing war end? Just some thoughts.

A recent congressional hearing indicates America cannot defeat global terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIL) as long as Saudi Arabia sponsors Wahhabism.
Speaking in an early January congressional hearing aired by C-SPAN, Democratic congressman from Georgia, Hank Johnson said, “It is true …that the ideology of ISIL lines up with Wahhabism.”

The Turkish position is that they will not tolerate anyone on the Syria / Turkey border except their militants:
“We do not want Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant or ISIL], the PKK or the paramilitary forces of the regime,” Davutoğlu said after two-and-a-half hour meeting with Biden in İstanbul.
So Syria doesn’t have a say in it. This stretch is from the west bank of the Euphrates River westward to the Kurdish held area in the west. The US supported PYD and their YPG militia units are now west of the Euphrates. The US spec ops have been assisting the YPG along with air support from both the US and Russia. Turkey sees this as a threat and have started military operations to support a Turkmen rebel group to flight Daesh so that the Turkmen can occupy the buffer zone.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Yeni Safak newspaper touted Ankara’s military support for northern Aleppo rebels in their recent offensive against ISIS.
The paper—which is close to the country’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP)—said that the rebel operation launched on Saturday night was advancing “with the support of heavy artillery fire from Turkey.”
Yeni Safak also quoted a rebel commander as saying the opposition groups intend to secure Ankara’s desired safe-zone stretching from Aazaz in the west to Jarablus in the east, which would prevent the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from further expanding along the Turkish border.
In recent weeks, the armed opposition groups in northern Aleppo have engaged in see-saw battles with ISIS in the projected “safe zone” with both sides exchanging control over a series of villages. At the same time, the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces coalition has fought the opposition groups west of Aazaz amid Russian bombardment of the rebel lines.
There also seems to be a policy change by the backers of the opposition to curtail fighting with the SAA and concentrate on fighting the jihadist forces, at least in southern section. This has something to do with the Russia / Jordan meetings. From Jordan:

BEIRUT – The Amman-based Military Operations Center (MOC) that helps coordinate rebel operations in southern Syria has ordered Free Syrian Army-affiliated factions to stop attacking regime forces and instead focus their efforts against the Nusra Front, according to a Lebanese daily.
Al-Akhbar reported that the MOC informed the commanders of several Southern Front coalition fighting forces—including the Omari Brigades, Youth of Sunnah Brigade, and Yarmouk Army— of the new strategy during a meeting January 8 in Amman.
“The goal of the meeting was to inform the armed groups of MOC’s new direction, the schedule for the coming period, and the types of support that [foreign backers] would provide the militants through the operations room,” security sources told the pro-Damascus newspaper in an article published Wednesday morning.
The sources added that the FSA-linked groups were told by Jordanian, US and British intelligence officials to “stop operations against the Syrian army and avoid periphery battles,” in reference to intermittent rounds of fighting between the rebels and ISIS-affiliated groups in southern Syria.
On October 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in Vienna that his country and Amman had agreed to coordinate military actions in Syria with a “special working mechanism” based in the Jordanian capital.
Then there is in-fighting within the opposition groups; this is a good sign. They have been fighting themselves instead of the SAA in the south and around Aleppo. A Russian missile strike took out about 20 jihadists when they had a meeting to resolve their differences.

Al-Nusra and Ahrar ash-Sham have been engaged in an inter-terrorist war amongst each for the control of Salqin in Idlib province. The town is located near the border with Turkey.
The two respective terrorist groups after a week of battling decided to meet in the center of the town to resolve the issue.
With the groups meeting, they arrived with their SUV’s and other heavy vehicles and equipment. Russian intelligence were well aware of the meeting that was to take place and launched 2 ballistic missiles that hit the gathering area.
It has been reported that over 20 of the terrorists from both groups were killed, with a further 30+ injured. Most of the heavy vehicles were also destroyed.

I don’t understand why the Syrians and the Russians don’t very loudly call out the US for their illegal military initiatives in Syria. They are not invited. They should be stopped and called out at the UN for ignoring international law.

Another major ISIS assault at the Syrian air base there today… Like the 7th one.. They must be desperate to keep trying so hard but the area does contain most of the Syria’s oil wealth.. They also killed like 300 relatives of the soldiers at the base to get them to surrender and kidnapped 500 civilians.. The 200,000 people around there have been held hostage to prevent large scale bombing of the area.
