It is becoming more clear that Washington plans to expand its war in the Middle East. Last week the media reported that the US military had taken over an air base in eastern Syria, and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that the US would send in the 101st Airborne Division to retake Mosul in Iraq and to attack ISIS headquarters in Raqqa, Syria. Then on Saturday, Vice President Joe Biden said that if the upcoming peace talks in Geneva are not successful, the US is prepared for a massive military intervention in Syria.
While the Washington snowstorm dominated news coverage this week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was operating behind the scenes to rush through the Senate what may be the most massive transfer of power from the Legislative to the Executive branch in our history. The senior Senator from Kentucky is scheming, along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, to bypass normal Senate procedure to fast-track legislation to grant the president the authority to wage unlimited war for as long as he or his successors may wish.
here’s why Carter said he was going to send the 101st Airborne into Mosul–it’s falling.
TEHRAN (FNA)- Local sources in the city of Mosul in Western Iraq have disclosed that the number of the ISIL militants coming from the western countries has declined, media reports said.
“The ISIL’s decision to reduce the salaries of its foreign militants by half has immensely impacted them so much that some of them have left the terrorist group,” the Arabic-language al-Sumeria news channel quoted a local source as saying on Monday.
The source reiterated that the decline in the number of the foreign ISIL militants shows that their impetus is money and not Islam.
In a relevant development earlier this month, the Russian Sputnik news agency reported that it will take a little time but the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is approaching its end.
Setting things up for the next president no matter who it is to carry on. America needs a revolution more than any other country on the planet. Russia watching is fine but the real work that needs to be done is in America. WE know Russia doesn’t seek world dominance or war. America does. The last person to harbor such ambitions was Hitler. Those not along for the ride should start organizing and starting some sort of no war. Maybe we could start a Say no to War Board here and a newsletter. Lord knows there is enough talent. Or maybe some people are already in an anti war group or veterans group against war and can start there and form a United Front Against War. Maybe we could start with Say No to NATO. It is the military arm of US corporate and state power. And we should get rid of these private military contractor’s they cost more in the end, often causing hostilities sureptitously just to keep the money flowing and the war never ending. What mercenary contractor has an interest in seeing war end? Just some thoughts.

note their only base there west Latakia means they must fly hundreds of kms to get to east Syria.
The Russian military has no plans to set up another air base in Syria, the Defense Ministry said Monday.
The ministry’s statement followed media reports claiming that Russia could be preparing to create another base in Qamishli in northeastern Syria near the border with Turkey.
The ministry’s spokesman, Maj.-Gen. Igor Konashenkov, said that the military has no intention to set up any additional air base in Qamishli or advance airfields in Syria.
Russian warplanes have flown nearly 6,000 combat missions since Moscow launched its air campaign in Syria on Sept. 30. The Russian warplanes are based at Hemeimeem air base in Syria’s coastal province of Latakia.
Reason this latest turd is being floated about Russia with a new airbase in eastern Syria:

Turkey Shrouding Troop Deployment in Syria with Russian Airbase Rumors
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said that media reports on a new Russian base in Syria may be an attempt to cover-up information about Turkey’s deployment of a large group of troops to the Syrian border.
Media reports on a new Russian base in Syria may be an attempt to cover-up information about Turkey’s deployment of a large group of troops to the Syrian border, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Monday, Sputnik reported.
Key point of this ‘hearing’, one of hundreds replete with sanctimonious BS & lies that never get to the root, (like the ‘coincidence’ they feign surprise over about ISIL having the same traits as Wahabbiism!) is at least it seems to hint at throwing the current leiters there under the bus, & their entire corrupt murderous faux cult & financing, too.
A recent congressional hearing indicates America cannot defeat global terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIL) as long as Saudi Arabia sponsors Wahhabism.
Speaking in an early January congressional hearing aired by C-SPAN, Democratic congressman from Georgia, Hank Johnson said, “It is true …that the ideology of ISIL lines up with Wahhabism.”
Congressman Johnson asked participant in the hearing panel Robert Ford, a former US ambassador to Syria, “Is it fair to say that Saudi’s support for the teachings of Wahhabism creates fertile ground for ISIL recruitment efforts?
The Turkish position is that they will not tolerate anyone on the Syria / Turkey border except their militants:
“We do not want Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant or ISIL], the PKK or the paramilitary forces of the regime,” Davutoğlu said after two-and-a-half hour meeting with Biden in İstanbul.
So Syria doesn’t have a say in it. This stretch is from the west bank of the Euphrates River westward to the Kurdish held area in the west. The US supported PYD and their YPG militia units are now west of the Euphrates. The US spec ops have been assisting the YPG along with air support from both the US and Russia. Turkey sees this as a threat and have started military operations to support a Turkmen rebel group to flight Daesh so that the Turkmen can occupy the buffer zone.
BEIRUT – Turkey has started to remove mines planted by ISIS along a strip of territory near a Syrian border town, only a day after an Ankara-backed rebel group declared the area a “military zone” and advised civilians to leave.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s Yeni Safak newspaper touted Ankara’s military support for northern Aleppo rebels in their recent offensive against ISIS.
The paper—which is close to the country’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP)—said that the rebel operation launched on Saturday night was advancing “with the support of heavy artillery fire from Turkey.”
Yeni Safak also quoted a rebel commander as saying the opposition groups intend to secure Ankara’s desired safe-zone stretching from Aazaz in the west to Jarablus in the east, which would prevent the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from further expanding along the Turkish border.
In recent weeks, the armed opposition groups in northern Aleppo have engaged in see-saw battles with ISIS in the projected “safe zone” with both sides exchanging control over a series of villages. At the same time, the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces coalition has fought the opposition groups west of Aazaz amid Russian bombardment of the rebel lines.
There also seems to be a policy change by the backers of the opposition to curtail fighting with the SAA and concentrate on fighting the jihadist forces, at least in southern section. This has something to do with the Russia / Jordan meetings. From Jordan:
BEIRUT – The Amman-based Military Operations Center (MOC) that helps coordinate rebel operations in southern Syria has ordered Free Syrian Army-affiliated factions to stop attacking regime forces and instead focus their efforts against the Nusra Front, according to a Lebanese daily.
Al-Akhbar reported that the MOC informed the commanders of several Southern Front coalition fighting forces—including the Omari Brigades, Youth of Sunnah Brigade, and Yarmouk Army— of the new strategy during a meeting January 8 in Amman.
“The goal of the meeting was to inform the armed groups of MOC’s new direction, the schedule for the coming period, and the types of support that [foreign backers] would provide the militants through the operations room,” security sources told the pro-Damascus newspaper in an article published Wednesday morning.
The sources added that the FSA-linked groups were told by Jordanian, US and British intelligence officials to “stop operations against the Syrian army and avoid periphery battles,” in reference to intermittent rounds of fighting between the rebels and ISIS-affiliated groups in southern Syria.
On October 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in Vienna that his country and Amman had agreed to coordinate military actions in Syria with a “special working mechanism” based in the Jordanian capital.
Then there is in-fighting within the opposition groups; this is a good sign. They have been fighting themselves instead of the SAA in the south and around Aleppo. A Russian missile strike took out about 20 jihadists when they had a meeting to resolve their differences.
Al-Nusra and Ahrar ash-Sham have been engaged in an inter-terrorist war amongst each for the control of Salqin in Idlib province. The town is located near the border with Turkey.
The two respective terrorist groups after a week of battling decided to meet in the center of the town to resolve the issue.
With the groups meeting, they arrived with their SUV’s and other heavy vehicles and equipment. Russian intelligence were well aware of the meeting that was to take place and launched 2 ballistic missiles that hit the gathering area.
It has been reported that over 20 of the terrorists from both groups were killed, with a further 30+ injured. Most of the heavy vehicles were also destroyed.
Then I came across this mentioned in an article and found the article:
Russia have expressed their horror at the downing of two US Marine helicopters by Turkey last week, which killed all 12 soldiers on board.
A Turkish Air Force fighter jet fired a two American CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters being flown by the US Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) over Kurdish held territory in Syria.
US forces had been dispatched from Ayn al-Asas Airbase in Iraq for a routine re-supply mission of US and British troops embedded within the Kurdish People’s Protection Unit (YPG), who were fighting ISIS militants near the Turkish border.
This happened around 14/01/2016 but seems to have been “smoke screened” by the Hawaii helicopter accidents, nothing in the MSM. Can anyone verify this?
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The F-35 program is expected to cost $1.5 trillion over its 55-year lifespan, making it the most expensive US weapons program.
“In February or early March, a combat-coded F-35A from the 34th Fighter Squadron at Hill AFB [Air Force Base] will release an inert, laser-guided bomb at the nearby Utah Test and Training Range,” Flight Global reported on Tuesday.
If the test is successful, it will be a “monumental achievement” for the multinational F-35 program, which Lockheed Martin has been prime contractor on since it was awarded the US Air Force’s Joint Strike Fighter contract in 2001, the online report noted.
“A stealthy, jet-powered combat aircraft is nothing if it cannot put weapons on a target, and this GBU-12 Paveway II release will be a moment of truth for the conventional A-model, which until now only released weapons in development and operational testing,” Flight Global said.
So after 15 years of development the F-35 is going to test fire its first missile. Exceptional! LOL. Compare it with the Su-34 video on this sight. (P-51 Mustang took 6 months from concept to production. Times have changed).
In 1971 Lockheed Aircraft Corporation was facing bankruptcy after struggling to finish production on a new line of jets. Lockheed argued that without a government bailout, 60,000 workers would become unemployed, and companies that did business with Lockheed would suffer major financial losses.
The government bailed out Lockheed with a $250 million loan that allowed Lockheed to complete production of the jets and avoid bankruptcy; however, Lockheed continued to struggle financially, and during the 1980s the company stopped producing commercial jets.
In the Topsy-Turvy world of the MIC, no noble, just or kind deed goes unpunished.
I don’t understand why the Syrians and the Russians don’t very loudly call out the US for their illegal military initiatives in Syria. They are not invited. They should be stopped and called out at the UN for ignoring international law.
The ISIS attacks on Deir ez-Zor. For some reason ISIS is desperate to take Deir ez-Zor rather than holding onto ground they already control?
Deir ez-Zor / oil…. Carter talking of military invasion…. ISIS gains control of eastern Syria (oil) then US invades and takes control of the region?
ISIS gaining control of the oil facilities in Syria for the US? This is the only reason I can think of that would make ISIS seem desperate to take Deir ez-Zor at the present time.
URL says this map is about 1 year old, well before appx Sept/2015 Russia intervention.
7th biggest city in Syria. on Euphrates. lotsa oil facilities.
also close sort of to Iraq, where note Mosul not far there where where Carter a few days ago warned he’ll send the 101st to retake.
they’ve never ‘left’ Iraq, contrary to their spew, same as Ghanistan, & want to keep a foothold (or more) there because they’ve never given up on Iran as the prize.
Another major ISIS assault at the Syrian air base there today… Like the 7th one.. They must be desperate to keep trying so hard but the area does contain most of the Syria’s oil wealth.. They also killed like 300 relatives of the soldiers at the base to get them to surrender and kidnapped 500 civilians.. The 200,000 people around there have been held hostage to prevent large scale bombing of the area.
Here’s a strange report I can’t make anything of. Disinfo maybe?

Another major ISIS assault at the Syrian air base there today… Like the 7th one.. They must be desperate to keep trying so hard but the area does contain most of the Syria’s oil wealth.. They also killed like 300 relatives of the soldiers at the base to get them to surrender and kidnapped 500 civilians.. The 200,000 people around there have been held hostage to prevent large scale bombing of the area.
