June 17th IRAQ SITREP by Mindfriedo
- 16th June: Iraqi Airforce hits Daash targets in Tal Afar
- 16th June: All heavy military equipment is shifted by Daash from Mosul. They have taken most heavy equipment to Syria.
- 16th June: The Bathist governor of Mosul, Colonel Hashem al-Jammas, is ensuring twenty hours of power supply to Mosul residents as opposed to two hours being provided previously.
- 16th June: Saudi Arabia has blamed the current government for the ongoing Sunni rebellion. They blame Maliki’s sectarian policies as the main reason for Sunni dissatisfaction.
- 16th June: A bomb explodes in central Baghdad on a passenger bus killing six civilians.
- 17th June: The Iraqi government has blamed Saudi Arabia of siding with the rebels. In its statement it said: “We hold it (Saudi Arabia) responsible for what these groups are receiving in terms of financial and moral support. The Saudi government should be held responsible for the dangerous crimes committed by these terrorist groups”
- 17th June: Example of a misleading pro Daash tweet: Baghdad collapses. Shells on US and Iranian embassies. Maliki fled. Chief of Military Staff flees to Germany. Heavy casualties to Iranian forces.
- 17th June: The rebels constitute three elements:
- Islamists: Daash and other extremist Islamic groups-The Shock Troops
- The Military Council: Former officers of the Iraqi army-The mainstay, they had worked against the Islamist under the Americans but have now sided with the Sunni uprising
- The Naqshabandi Order: Former Ba’athist led by Ibrahim Izzat Al Douri. It is the weakest of the three and its members are mostly former Ba’athist.
- 17th June: Power sharing in Mosul involved Daash handing over administration to the Military Council. The military Council insisted that Daash withdraw its foreign fighters from the city.
- 17th June: Daash has asked women in Mosul to indoors and has banned all forms of entertainment and alcohol

- 17th June: Ali Shamkhani , chief of the Iranian National Supreme Security Council on the purpoted Iran US co-operation in Iraq: That is part of a psychological war, and is totally unreal, information published in the West’s media. As we have already said, if there is an official Iraqi request we will be ready to study it under the framework of international rules, and this concerns no other country.”
- 17th June: Rouhani blames the spread of Daash as a direct outcome of the West and its allies arming the Syrian opposition, saying “We warned them a year ago that these terrorist groups were a danger for the whole region. [But] they sent them arms – or their colleagues in the region sent them arms.”
- 17th June: An overnight attack on Baquba police station resulted in the death of prisoners held there. The rebels claim that Shia militias and security personnel executed the Sunni prisoners when rebels tried to free them. The government claims the rebels killed the prisoners.
- 17th June: The UK has decided to reopen its embassy in Tehran
- 17th June: Syrian authorities claim that they foiled a chemical attack planned by Daash
- 17th June: Nasrallah stated on Sunday “If [Hezbollah] hadn’t intervened in Syria the right way and at the right time, ISIS would be in Beirut now.” He also mentioned that the call made by Sistani was not for the Shias of Iraq alone “not intended to protect a particular sect, but to protect Iraq as a whole.”
- 17th June: Heavy fighting has been reported in Baquba with rebel advances being met with heavy resistance.
- 17th June: The Turkmen village of Basheer, 15 kilometers south of Kirkuk was attacked by Daash. The Turkmen defenders and security services repelled the assault with the help of Kurdish forces. The clashes left a senior Kurdish police brigadier injured. Six of his bodyguards were also killed in the clashes.

- 17th June: The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) says that it has no plans to hand back Kirkuk to the central government. They have insisted that they will protect all ethnicities under their protection.
- 17th June: The KRG had reportedly opened the local army base and allowed residents to arm themselves.
- 17th June: The telegraph reports that over 5000 Iranians have signed up to be drafted into militias that may be sent to defend Shia Shrines in Iraq
- 17th June: It is now confirmed that Ghasem Soleimani, the head of the Qods force, is in Iraq. The Americans were informed prior to his arrival.
- 17th June: There is now confirmation that Tal Afar is in Dassh hands. However, parts of the city are in the control of the Government.

- 17th June: Daash controls a number of villages in the Saadia area in the north of Diyala province. Local administration officials are being forced to work. Half the population has fled. Local officials have asked the government in Baghdad to allow Peshmerga forces to assist in fighting Daash.

- 17th June: President of Iran Rohanni uploads photos of him watching Iran and Nigeria playing in the world cup. He is wearing pajamas and enjoying a cup of tea. The contrast with the bloodthirsty tweets of Daash is plain to see according to Robert Tait, Middle East Correspondent.
- 17th June: Fighting in the north of Baghdad is ongoing.
Amazing detail. Thanks!
Can you comment on the activity and effectiveness of Iran’s IRG and Quds Forces in the battles? They seemed to be the first to arrive, particularly in Tikrit.
What is the activity and effectiveness of Iran’s IRG and Quds Forces in the battles? They were first on the scene.
Thank you for the detailed report!
Thx. We need this sort of news. Facts, just facts, that’s the most important now…
Thank you Mindfriedo. Your time and effort to keep Sakers readers informed is greatly appreciated.
I’ve been listening to C-Span and other talk radio — and the general feedback is hell-NO-WAY in terms of Iraq re-engagement. The comments go beyond that to really questioning EVERYTHING the Empire has been asserting for years. The Tribe is beating the war-drums for all they’re worth — and people are putting cotton in their ears and singing “La, La, La” to drown out the sound and the fury of their lies. The blow-back against Anglo-Zionists is HUGE. So much so that one expects a BIG false-flag psyop any day now. They have nothing left than to up-the-ante. The smell of desperation from Foggy Bottom and Langley permeates the DC atmosphere. Heads up all. AGS
thank you for the detailed report!
Thank you for your timely reporting of these dramatic events. If you have any opinion on the possible hand of the CIA in the Daash offensive I would be very interested.
I have listened to Tarpley’s audio ““Isis” Blitz Run by CIA-France-Saudis-Turkey to Save Syrian Rebels, Topple Maliki, Isolate Iran” here http://tarpley.net/isis-blitz-run-by-cia-france-saudis-turkey-to-save-syrian-rebels-topple-maliki-isolate-iran/

Notice how Western flexibility and reasonable INCREASE with tension!
Not the opposite as Putin imagined with Ukraine.
The Shiites tried to curry favor with the West by being “inclusive”, the West just laughed in their faces (ignoring military aid requests, drone strikes, calls for cutting funding to the terrorist). Now that the Shiites are returning to a more appropriate war footing, the West is scrambling to reopen embassies and offer “support” (which the Shiites really don’t need, they just need the West to get out of the way).
Now that Putin has shut off the gas it is time for some further retaliation to the Ukrainian economy, which he will stop when the killings stop.
All this talk about “fraternal nations” is predicated on reciprocity, correct Mr Putin? (See also the sabotage of the Ukrainian pipeline!)

Revolution in Poland?

Warsaw 16.06.2014
Manifestation of growing in strength, are organized in many cities: Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Szczecin, Poznan, Katowice, Rzeszow, Lublin, Bydgoszcz, Torun, Opole and many other cities.
People have had enough of the rule of Prime Minister Tusk.
Country and nation is robbed . recent days leaked to the press recordings from hidden microphone.Leading ministers talk with the president of the Polish National Bank on the aid of the party ruling, ”PO” in exchange for the head of the finance minister, and promised to introduce laws dictated by the President of the National Bank .
From the recordings we learn that the Minister for Infrastructure, Mr. Nowak cheating office to revenue and lowers income. It’s only a few threads and they are many.
The funny thing is that Prime Minister Tusk in his speech said “I do not see in these talks nothing wrong” and” Poles nothing has happened “

Exellent detailed report – Thanks!!
My pessimistic vision from last week, after the fall of Mosul and on the eve of the impending Russian march into Ukraine (with some edits and additions).
There will be no Cold War 2.0 – The war we are in today will be a Global Class War. Nation states will be destroyed, everything will be turned into Tribalistan. The Empire will build fortress around key natural resources. They will be guarded by a hierarchy of mercenaries with US contractors on the top, European Nazis in the middle and local slaves on the bottom.
The people will be divided into violent tribes at constant war with each other. There will be international movements for decolonization and national liberation, but as the European Left has lost its soul and purpose it has nothing to give to the struggle. With Marxism and Leninism dead and buried there can no longer be any anti-fascist resistance. The leading anti-imperials force will be al-Qaeda.
There can be no multipolarity – as demanded by Alexandr Dugin. The only pole is that of stateless, immortal Capital. It knows no state or nationality, but will merge all Power into one, the Empire. On the other side are the People. The more disorganized they are the more powerful the Empire becomes. ISIS in not all bad, they resit and fight the Empire. It is the Strategy of Tension and of Fulls Spectrum Dominance that makes the people fight each other.
Thank you very much for this detailed SITREP and your efforts to shed light on the situation in Iraq!
I’m afraid the implementation of Oded Yinon’s plan is making good progress.
no time to read all information posted here since yesterday, only wanted to leave you a link to an excellent analysis on the situation in Iraq, by Nazanín Armanian, in spanish for Público.es ( Nazanín is one of my favorite analysts in Geopolitics, as sharp and direct as Shaker )

thanks for the blow by blow on the movements in Iraq
The development in Iraq shows very clearly what are the Empire main objectives: chaos, divisions, a perpetual clash between thesis, underthesis, parathesis and antithesis, underantithesis and parantithesis, all of them precedently created in some way by the Empire itself.
There’s nothing that fits more to its dominion and exploitation with total impunity, the real enemy (the Empire) being lost in a endless series of opposing mirrors.
It’s for this that the Saker misses the point when he marks these outcomes as Empire’s failures.
After all, he did correctly state that you can’t analyze the Empire’s foreign policy from the point of view of a rational (i.e. human) person.
So, he needs just to follow his own postulate here.
When there is no Sovereign, the devil is in charge.
The Demonocratic Empire, exactly!

I don’t find the emphasis on “ISIS” or the “Daash” persuasive. It is by all accounts a johnny-come-lately in Iraq. It was previously on the wrong, i.e. objectively Anglo-Zionist, side in Syria and not successful How has it suddenly become so powerful in Iraq? There was little or no fighting in Mosul. The occupation security forces simpy surrendered or ran away. That argues careful political preparation. Sine when have sectarian forces ever been capable of such things? Many Arab sources of differing political views say the Iraqi national resistance is the main force in the uprising.

Saker, I suggest you moderate/potentially ban the user Petri Krohn. He claims that CIA-front groups al Qaeda and ISIS are “not all bad, they resit and fight the Empire.” From his post, he is another insipid parochial Marxist like Niq Naq, except more dangerous because either (1) he is too ignorant to know that al Qaeda and ISIS are US Anglo-Zionist instruments or else (2) he is malignant and he knows he is spreading misinformation. Either way, he seems like trouble to me.

In Baghdad, embassies are shutting down, the Internet has been turned off, there’s a checkpoint on every corner and there are more weapons carried openly on the streets than ever. Food prices are rising, militias roam the streets and all anybody can talk about is whether the extremists will attack. All of this is similar to other crises the city’s embattled residents have weathered – except with one big difference

Dear Mindfriedo,
Thank you for your updates.
Rgds,
Veritas
So, scheming Americans are caught in the jaws of the dilemma.
Bomb ISIS – and become a sworn enemy of Gulf Arabs.
Or stay on the sidelines – and be a godfather of hardline, messianic Islamist entity, which will redraw the map of the Middle East, and will certainly attack Israel at some point.
As anywhere else, USA has no good options left anymore.
Old Ez,
Just because Poles had enough of Tusk, means nothing.
They have a “western-style democracy” now.
Which means that there is another set of crooks waiting in the wings, ready to take over.
Then, in a few years, Poles will get tired of them too, and will be presented with a choice to vote for a new group of conmen.
It can continue like that for a long, long time, until Poland is an empty land.

Yes, you are right, at the same time please take into consideration that Hitler was vinnning for a very long time too and we know how he has finished with his megalomanic plan.
Thank you to Mindfriendo for the sad, but very important update on Iraq, the sad news is that again Muslim brothers fight Muslim brothers and the evil is just laughing behind the curtain. We have seen these situations in many conflicts around the world like Tuci-Hutu,former Yuogoslavia, now Ukraine and so on. Till the humanity is not going to wake up that this chaos was organized against us / we do the best business when the chaos and blood is taking over the streets – Mr.Rockefeller /
We just have to hope that the Middle East people will realize what it will be for them to be fight against each other.
Peace for the world!!!!!!!!
If you want to REALLY understand what is afoot in Ukraine and what the stakes for Russia REALLY are, set aside 45 minutes of your time and read this – carefully and thoroughly.
FWIW a third party report of the situation in Mosul:
“The city is calm and most of what we read are exaggerated rumors. No church has been demolished, only Ibin al-Etheer’s tomb (A Muslim writer, Abbasid period, who was accused of infidelity). The tomb itself is new, and the original tomb stone is in the Mosul Museum. [source said] the security is very well organized, no looting, nearly each street or district is guarded by a masked man, who seems to know everyone, must be local. However, the fear is from what happened if the Americans started bombing the city.”
> Maedhros 17 June, 2014 18:50
Well said, and entirely agree.
Just like the merchants who made their profits selling tools to all those competing gold rush miners, keeping endless wars going is a perpetual profit machine.
What’s at play here is the political pathology of irrational, insatiable, unhinged greed (ie: vorocracy). They have found the alchemical secret that converts blood into gold.

Dear David,
Very well said! ~:)
Yes, all the crap were routed out from Syria and it is time to do the same with Iraq.
It is carefully planned by USA, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar …. to get the rot out openly in one place and then be done with them as they did in Syria.
I am not sure if Turkey is on board, if not they soon will be.
These people are threat to all those countries above. Therefore, their days are numbered now.
Best regards,
Mohamed.
The Ba’athists were the main resistance to American occupation, so it’s mostly a Sunni insurgency. The ‘Islamists’ run by Jordanian intelligence are withdrawing to Syria to become Assad’s headache. Iraq will dissolve into civil war, mark my words. All outsiders should leave.

Pepe Escobar on the latest delusional statements by Tony Blair:
[Tony Blair’s] most recent opus speaks for itself; like a Kabuki mask high on Earl Grey tea, the Phantom is eviscerated by his own mighty pen, actually sword.
The fact that the Phantom keeps getting away with his vast desert of convoluted lies – instead of languishing in some rotten, extraordinary rendition hotel – spells out all we need to know about so-called Western “elites”, of which he’s been a faithful, and handsomely rewarded, servant.
So Western “inaction” in Syria has led to the latest Iraq tragedy? Sorry, Tony; it was yours and “Dubya’s” 2003 Shock and Awe “action” that set the whole Shakespearean tragedy in motion.

I hope people here understand that
Sunni-hates-Shi’ite and
Sharia-Caliphate = US/UK proxy jobs.
Chossudovski’s description that the Empire trains, re-enforces and directs both sides plus “Kurdistan” is totally comprehensible.
But do ordinary Iraqis—those who actually love their country and would fight he foreigners—have patriotic leadership?
And God bless Tarpley.
Are we sure that there is not an attempt by the Empire to direct attention away from the NATO war on the Ukraine? Funny how just as things were getting nailed down as to all of the deaths that the Kiev regime was inflicting in the Ukraine, and that it was getting more difficult to hide these facts, that we are suddenly re-directed to the Middle East. I would suggest that we keep careful attention on Ukraine as that will be where the Empire strikes again, this time without anyone’s attention. As for Iraq, it would appear that the Saudis hate campaign against the Shiite has been in full gear for some time. I have been following both situations for decades now and see the usual patterns of “divide and conquer” in both situations.
Never fall for a good speaker, demand that actions conform to what he says. Most of us who drank the Kool-Aid of Obama in 2008 knew better in 2012. The trouble was, even though we voted third party, the opposing candidate was not strong enough. So things are “managed” at home as well as in the outer reaches of the Empire. We need to be thinking ahead of the Empire to defeat it. That will not happen until we quit confusing democracy with “voting” and realize that the country who spends everything on war and nothing on its people is really just a sham. So I caution any group working against the Empire to be sure that they are not doing the Empire’s will.
I fear that only worse times lay ahead. Start thinking like Sun Tzu, everyone, so we can ultimately prevail.
“I give you the games…”
“Of Thrones?”

“Nope.”
“Eyeraque then?”
“Doesn’t anyone watch ‘kicking the ball around’ anymore? It’s ff-ing meant to keep your minds focused on mindless nothingness, not ‘Oh, look, they’re killing folks over there and over here…’ Crap. Where’s some real good propaganda when you need it?
Brilliant, thank you to everyone involved. We all appreciate the hard work involved.
“16th June: All heavy military equipment is shifted by Daash from Mosul. They have taken most heavy equipment to Syria. “
just imagine.
The US find difficult to give heavy weaponry to their beloved terrorists in Syria.
They give orders to their puppet irai generals to let it there and flee away.
Job done.
Iraq is now a tripartite protectorate. There is oil in the North and South–what the US policymakers want to do is to contain the Sunnis in some way—buy them off most likely to avoid creating a Shia alliance of So Iraq, Iran and Syria. In no way do they want Iran to be empowered. And the Kurds are careful with any alliances–their deal with ISIS is a shaky truce at best. Reminds me of a big bowl of shaking, not-yet-set jell-o.
No one in the US wants any more money spent other than the one Trillion dollars already poured down the rat hole of Iraq. The ruling class will lose the masses on this one big time. Time is ripe for another false flag , however. if the foreign policy of those in power is discredited in the MidEast, it does make questions over just what is going on in the Ukraine more relevant to the average joe ..one can hope.
According to Nazanín Aramanian asked right now in La Tuerka ( political gathering), the objectiveis to weaken regional powers Iraq and Iran by who Israel feels threatened.
To do this, dismember Iraq into three sectors:
1-Northeast (Kurdistan), virtually splinter yet, with its own anthem, its own administration, and its own army ( peshmerga ) trained by The Mossad. This area, controlling over 40% of oil reserves and yet virtually controled by Turkey, France and Israel.
2-Mid and West for ISIS, Sunni.
3-Mid and southeast Shiite, administered jointly by the US and Irán.With this, more than likely, it will involve Irán in an endless religious war.
And, I say, taking Russia mired in a civil war in The Ukraine ( if they finally get implicated ) and Irán bogged down in Iraq, a free hand to run to dismember Siria, which was the other goal.
They, The US, get their oil, and Israel lives quiet forever, surrounded by small Arab kingdoms with armies unable to cope with them, and who will quietly steal the water or whatever they need and annex territory at will.
Well, Iran is not going to let there be a Sunni caliphate capitol based in Baghdad any more than Putin was going to allow a bunch of neonazi cons kick the Russian Fleet out of Crimea. So dream on Saudi Sheiks–there will be no Syria-Iraqi Sunni land grab! No one is talking yet about the Israeli potential for mayhem as we all know who they answer to.

“Are we sure that there is not an attempt by the Empire to direct attention away from the NATO war on the Ukraine?”
I really cannot believe such is the case, even though there have been immediate essays round the internet suggesting this. The main reason for not believing it is that it works against the empirical narrative that it and it alone is the master chessplayer that sure, does work on the dark side, but so it must in order to achieve pax Americana.
Iraq is ‘in your face’ reductio ad absurdum proof that even the media cannot downplay. The empire is strung up twisting feebly in the wind with this. The emperor indeed is buck naked and shivering in a very cold wind.
I just hope it does deflect from Ukraine, but in a positive way. I hope the empire is defanged and we can all go back to being ordinary citizens with good will toward all and retribution for the criminals who have been overlording us since the turn of the century.
[I should have begun, (but I will end) with enormous thanks to mindfriedo and to Saker for bringing us this news as well as the important updates on the Ukraine standoff and atrocities. I know I speak for many others who come here for information. Thanks, all who contribute to this forum.]
Mindfriedo, thank you so very much for these updates; there is just no way whatever any of us could pull together all of this information, and it is invaluable.
What do you think of the possibility that, among other things (Syria comes to mind), this whole thing is a plot to lure Iranian forces into Iraq and start a war between Iraq and Iran yet again?
And finally, here is a VERY interesting piece on Homeland Security detailing how, in addition to being an incredible boondoggle, it has become Our. New. Standing. Army.
Every American should read this. (I imagine there are plenty of non-Americans everywhere who will not exactly be upset when we start getting at home the treatment we so easily bestow on others.)

Thank you, Mindfriedo. For a long time now, I’ve found your comments here to be particularly interesting and informative. I’m so glad to see you with your own desk in the newsroom, so to speak.
And thanks again to Saker. I’ve seen so many blogs start out small and destroy themselves in growth pains, but this blog just keeps getting better as it grows. I’m so happy you’re getting such high quality correspondents to help. But Saker- don’t ever stop writing yourself. We won’t let you retire :)
@Mohammed That’s what I expected since long time ago (2 years) – an operation to get rid of extremists and defuse the bomb planted by the US/Anglo/Zio/Nazi cabal.
But then the atrocities, like in Adra, that are absolutely not acceptable, and couldn’t be possibly be just a “collateral damage”.
Now the atrocities in Iraq, totally avoidable, how could the planners not have prevented this?
Shame on them.
Do not help the Empire distance itself from events in the ME.
The name “Daash” is an acronym for “Dulat al-Islam fi al-Iraq wal-Sham” – “the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria”, and it is a Sunni Salafi organization affiliated with al-Qaeda.
In other words:
ISIL/EFIL/SHAAM are all al-Qaeda USA.
Thank you, Mindfriedo, for the thorough article. It helps a lot to understand, what’s really going on in Iraq.
Would you care to voice a bit of your opinion, what is the best outcome possible in Iraq under the circumstances – would splitting the country in three – Kurds, Shia and Sunni have any good aspects? And where would the Turkmen people fit in? Could they all manage without US support (I really hope they could)? Should Iran or Turkey intervene more forcefully?
And last but not least – how much danger does the heavy weaponry taken to Syria pose to Assad’s government? Was there signifcant anti-aircraft and anti-tank weaponry involved, or just artillery and Humwees?
Thanks a lot Mindfreido,
The reports are extremely detailed and well informed.
Can you please give the real American game plan behind this particular issue here ?
How can Iran , Syria and peaceful anti-Empire groups win this one ?
Take care
Debanjan

Yes, Shame, Shame, on them. In the Quran it says, killing one person is paramount to killing the whole community. We don’t know what is coming out is simply just noises or truth.
For the last 4 or 5 years, since the USA left, there are daily deaths of Shias in Iraq, some months amounting to 1,000 or more. Imagine, how many have been seriously injured for life. This, number is even higher than the monthly deaths.
But it is time, that this is to be stopped. Once and for all. The neighboring countries have realized that the blow back to them is very high and with a very high cost.
This has brought out the hidden remnants of Saddam in open.
Best regards,
Mohamed.
