The Su-34 is actually more powerful than is generally known.
Its payload is 12 tons, not 8. (I’m aware that Sukhoi claims the payload is 8 tons, but I view that as intentional obfuscation. I wish that Sukhoi would update its website, because the truth has long been known to military specialists.)
Payload and distance are a compromise, you can have a 250km range with a higher payload or a 4000km range with a much smaller payload, the engine is still the old SU27’s and max speed is lower as well. But the thing going for it is that it does not require fighter escorts. The French Rafael is also similar but cost 3 times as much and lasts 1/3rd as much.. Has anyone looked at this? it is the most important spec in all this, while American jets need constant maintenance and 50% of them are under maintenance all the time, Russian jets have far higher mean time between maintenance, hence 6 jets can do the work of 12. The engines also last twice as long. We forget that the French jets engines last less than 3000 hours. The Russian jets engines last 10K to 20K hours unless you max it out in which case it is a couple of hours.. Like chasing the SR71, the fighter could almost match the speeds and vector in at an angle but the engine needed to be replaced after.

These programs begin with 30 minutes of short updates on important economic events of the last month. Then Wolff analyzes several major economic issues. For this October 14, these will include:
1. Volkswagen: Scandal for Capitalism, Germany and Beyond
2. Bad US Job Numbers; Wages Stagnate; Prices Fall….Downturn Looms
3. Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP): Corps/Govts Do Their Trade Deals
When time permits, we open the floor to questions and comments. Our goal: to develop all participants’ understanding and ability to explain current economic events and trends to others.
May they deliver “freedom” for all Syrians, Iraqis and people threatened for extinction by the liver-eaters.
The jet is thing of beauty, ironically delivering hell to Russia’s enemies.
Putin began preparing for wars like this as soon as he took charge in 1999. Now, many weapons systems are ready, crews trained and Russia leading the world because of his foresight.
That weasel Medvedev got little done, dropped the ball on Libya, and makes it into the film riding in a plane he would never have authorized (because the US would have told him not to build it).
a tremendously scaring death machine.
What´s the pay load it carries and might it be smart bombs?
Russia should have learnt the lessons of history, use it on absolute need, and not rely on military power. I also wonder how/why are they using such a small number of warplanes in Syria. A number between 12 and 30 planes of three different categories – but presume this is a protected secret. For such campaign a number of three or four pilots per plane minimum would be required.
Also clear that the lesser the planes, the greater turns to be the efficiency.
because of Syrian air base limitation, cannot support more of, let say, hundreds take offs a day. read somewhere about that, i cannot recall where. spuntiknews maybe.
Russian Mi-24 Helicopter Pilots in Syria Wow Western Analysts
With Russian airstrikes devastating the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist group in Syria, Moscow’s Mi-24 attack helicopters have given the Kremlin a significant advantage. So effective, they’re even impressing Western skeptics.
“When you see higher quality airmanship and precision fires coming from helicopters, that’s 100 percent Russian pilots,” Christopher Harmer, a US Navy veteran who now works for the Institute for the Study of War, told Foreign Policy.
Also known as Hind helicopters, the Mi-24 is capable of traveling up to 186 miles per hour at incredibly low altitudes. Skimming the treetops, the gunships come equipped with 30mm guns and rocket launchers, and can transport troops.
It’s an impressive piece of hardware with no real equal in the world.
Still, a good helicopter is nothing without a good crew, and after observing the effects of Mi-24 strikes in Syria, US military analysts have been thoroughly impressed by both.
He added that the skill displayed showed a “top shelf, highly trained, very courageous, and highly aggressive Russian helicopter crew.”
Part of that awe stems from the fact that the Mi-24 essentially does the job of two US helicopters. The Russian gunship combines the best qualities of the American Apache attack helicopter with the Huey transport helicopter.
The Pentagon lacks any kind of comparable aircraft.
Harmer said that such a combination of capabilities lets Russian crews focus on “directing airstrikes, calling in helicopter gunship support, and directing long-range air-to-surface and surface-to-surface missile fire.”
The Mi-24 is also unlike anything in the Syrian arsenal, and Harmer suggests that the skill of Russian crews is “a qualitative technical advantage that the Syrian military just doesn’t have; it’s going to significantly reduce Assad’s casualties.”
On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that 41 additional sorties had been carried out, destroying 40 IS facilities.
Mi-28 Helos are going into action for night fighting. More deadly and safer should MANPADS be fired from “freedom loving, democratic head choppers” trained to eat livers, rape women, gang rape girls in serial marriages, massacre everyone else and destroy antiquities.
27 July 2002: A Ukrainian Su-27 crashed while performing an aerobatics presentation, killing 77 spectators. Both pilots ejected and suffered only minor injuries.
30 August 2009: A Belarus Air Force Su-27UBM crashed at the 2009 Radom Air Show in Poland. The Su-27 crashed after exiting a loop, possibly due to an engine failure from a bird strike. Both pilots died after opting to stay with the aircraft to steer it away from spectators.
Pretty close.. It shows the training and morality.. In one they decided to save themselves and killed a LOT of people and that’s a lot of people, in the other they decided to save the civilians and died themselves.. I am surprised some people did not see it. This is one of the most basic fundamental human behaviors. Western values.. save yourself by any means possible and who cares if a zillions others die for your mistakes.
Thanks,I did notice that. But really didn’t see your point there. There are so many plane crashes, with many differing results ,that I missed the meaning you were thinking of.

Such a beautiful warplane!
I love how slick it is. What is the NATO equivalent? Or there is no such thing, combining maneuverability, speed and ability to act as a bomber?
Compare with the F-18 Super Hornet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_F/A-18E/F_Super_Hornet
OT
In the meantime, the economic/arms races rage on. Time for the US to spend another few hundred $billion to develop yet another flying fiasco.

So what was the point you were trying to make?
The Ukrainians were trained by John McCain.
