I am more of a learner than a contributor to this site (and café especially). So all I can say is greetings to you all. I hope I can learn more from here today.
if anyone wants a suggestion for summer reading, I’d like to recommend books by Colin Thubron, especially Lost Heart of Asia, and Shadow of the silk road, written just after collapse of USSr, where he writes about the resurgent nationalism of peoples in some of the “stan ‘ countries especially re the Turkoman Empire, the withdrawal of russian culture, business, peoples back to Russia from the countries, influences of China. And also looking out with comparisons with earlier great empires that have been and gone, eg Tamerlane. Some super and fascinating travel writing.
Might be apposite now to reappraise these ‘stan peoples” thinking, hopes, nostalgia, the current realities because
“The situation in Central Asia could explode at any moment. At least, economic conditions ripen. Complaints about the complexity of the living conditions for the population coming from almost all countries of the region. In Kazakhstan, according to the results of the 2nd quarter, the prices of goods and services rose by 17.3% in annual terms. Among the headings in the forefront were clothing and footwear (+ 35.2%) and household equipment (+ 28.5%). Food products increased in price by + 14.9%. The rising cost of services amounted to about 4.2%.
In Tajikistan, the population reduces food costs. There is a reduction in costs and payment service category. World Bank fixes the steady decline in the real incomes of the citizens of the state from November 2015 on April 2016.
In Uzbekistan, at gas stations in Tashkent there is an acute shortage of gasoline. Employees of state-owned company “Uzbekneftegaz” argue that the provinces the situation is even worse. Speculators playing on the price difference in various regions of the country. There is such a thing as “commercial price”, which is particularly relevant during the cotton harvest.
Turkmenistan has some of the employees of budgetary institutions are stable delays in salary payments. This occurs against the backdrop of rising prices for commodities. Among the victims are not only teachers, but also the employees military offices, and even state-owned enterprises on gas production. Some employees of public institutions on the brink of job cuts.
Against the background of the total rise in price of food, the people trying to stock up on food long-term storage of goods: flour, sugar, vegetable oil and the like. Observers fear the beginning of the disruption in the supply of products in connection with the crisis of import and domestic foreign exchange market. US dollar exchange rate on the black market is different from the official about 1.7 times is not in favor of the national currency.
In the normal scheme of “economic murder” of the problem of commercial and consumer market in Central Asia created from the outside, and about how they are created in other regions. A strong dollar at the low cost of raw materials, plus depreciation of real labor costs. As a result, dissatisfied population is adjusted against the authorities in order to make life more “fair.” Central Asia, like “bomb”, the pressure in the detonator which everything is amplified and amplified.
Meanwhile, Russia itself in the liberal economic terms, not too strong to solve similar problems. Excessive population of Central Asia, is washed in the Russian city, because it is more profitable to work than at home. Probably in Russian cities, there are more suitable for the development of the conditions for the Central Asian diasporas. Once this mixture is explosive, stuffed with ideology LIH (organization banned in Russia) breaks out, it will not find it. Against this background, Russia’s liberals continue their investment projects. Sometimes swearing at the television in the European immigration policy.”

Happy summer everyone , make it the best as you can.
Thanks JJ – very informative.
Also for the reminder of Colin Thubron. Read a wonderfully vivid account of taking the ferry on a remote part of the Volga years ago. Really stayed with me.
A real gem of a writer.
Thanks for the book recomendation. I have also read Colin Thubron, who is always a reference for any traveller, but I must say that, despite the detailed descriptions of people and environments he encounters, I have the feeling that almost never feels neither integrated nor twinned with the people who visit, like if he will not get to love them, but remains more like a casual observer, in the style of a newspaper correspondent , which does not block me with the feeling inherent to most inveterate travelers ( amongst whom I include myself ) who always find some reason to stay anywhere, or return, if only because of something that left pending to see / know / fix. I do not know, I find the general tone of his stories somewhat pessimistic. This happened to me when I read “Among the Arabs. Mirror to Damascus. The Hills of Adonis”, for example, although perhaps this is a characteristic of male British travel writers, because I had the same feeling when reading “Travels in Arabia Deserta” by Charles M. Doughty, who seemed to me that insists too much in the negative aspects of the Arabs, although, maybe, nothing more is to be expected from a so refined English gentleman visiting Arabia in those times. Anyway their books are highly advisable.
It does not happen to me the same with English women writers who transmit much more passion for travel and seem to enjoy and adapt much better to the peoples they are visitng, as Freya Stark, Gertrude Bell or Agatha Christie herself.
Just my opinion.
I find much more enjoyable Paul Bowles, although perhaps some people could find him a bit nuts, but he really travel without thinking in return and transmit the travel as a experience, an indelible part of his life. Really worth reading and unforgettable by him “The Sheltering sky”, but also “Tales from the desert” or “Green heads, blue hands”. It was precisely reading “The Sheltering Sky” while viewing the volcanic landscape of the Canary Islands when, being very young was born on me this concern that pushes one on a journey after another, in an effort to know and understand as much as is possible and while still able to withstand the discomforts also the trip entails, which has taken most of my free time and my earnings, but really worthy, do not regret nothing.
If I were born again only I would start traveling sooner.
Thanks for your information on Central Asia. Not knowing almost nothing about how things are going on there, past year I had the hunch that the next zone to be destabilised could well be this one, and so, I had decided to travel to Uzbekistán, but finally could not do it because had an accident that took me out of combat for 4 months during the summer. Then I tried to join a group when I was almost totally recovered in autumn, but the travel was already closed. A pity.
many thanks for your recommendations! Yup I agree CT comes across almost as historian, cold, insular, sadness for the great “glories’ of the past but still aware of the great slaughters of civilians……, unlike the recent tv series “In search of Alexander” I recommend which was very enthusiastic but then tv is a much more empathic media……..co-incidentally or synchronistically, check out

‘I, personally, and many of my friends were first shocked, and then stopped being shocked to hear from our former compatriots of the Soviet Union from the Central Asian republics, who are working here as taxi drivers, janitors, builders, clerks and so on. When asked how they and their families live there, in the wonderful Tajikistan, beautiful Uzbekistan, the stunning Kyrgyzstan, — we hear stories not only about the monstrous mess, not just about the monstrous social disaster, but about a revival of feudalism there, in fact, with its worst features.
More and more often we hear this phrase: “Well, not to worry, soon THEY will come [of course, they cannot say “ISIS”, as it is prohibited in Russia] and will bring order”. So the “Asian Ukraine” — were Islamic terrorists, as the neo-banderites in the ‘Independent’ [Ukraine], are perceived as a kind of deliverance, as a kind of liberation, as a restoration of justice, which has been violated by current authorities…………………..And then, people not in some Northern Iraq or Northern Syria, but very close, in the former Soviet Central Asia — ordinary people, secular people, completely socialized, honest, hard-working, diligent, begin to perceive Islamic terrorists as a way to get rid of the social Inferno that has swallowed their homeland.
And if someone believes that we have immunity from this, that we have everything in order in the social sphere, that we are not threatened, is gravely mistaken. When you talk to people and ask them: “Well, but THEY will kill, they will cut throats?” — in response you hear: “Will cut the throats only of those who deserve it”……………In reality, of course, it is hard to stop cutting throats, and throats will be cut left and right, but people have already gotten to the point were they perceive thugs as a lesser evil in comparison with local “democrats”. Do you think Central Asia doesn’t have their own Chubais and Yeltsin? Plenty! And if a state does not punish criminals, the criminals must be punished by someone else. ….”

DUSHANBE (Sputnik) — The putsch was orchestrated last September by Tajik Deputy Defense Minister Abduhalim Nazarzoda, who was killed alongside some 60 loyalists by security forces in his hideout in mountains.
“Criminal cases were launched into some 200 people… We gathered solid evidence against them,” Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon said, adding 170 had been convicted of having played a role in the failed coup.
The country’s secular government started a crackdown in the aftermath of the coup, banning the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) as a terrorist organization and arresting a dozen of its senior members.”

As expected the US presidential race is becoming nastier every day. It is just the beginning it will become worst no doubt. Trump is talking openly about the possibility of a rigged election with manipulated opinion surveys, computers and so on. No question the “deep” power will do whatever to put Killary in power and no question a gigantic fracture that is widening between Americans. Risk for a civil war? Who knows.
The US General is being sent to talk military to military with the Turks and to grovel a bit and Kerry et al are attacking humanitarian efforts in Aleppo. No one in the USA( besides the MSM-think tank academic echo chamber believes lying Killery about the Russian “hacks”.
But it could get worse: from RT with Jessie Ventura

Scanning the headlines in Reuters US and run onto this headline .. “The real reason Washington calls Putin a thug”

…But why Putin, and why now? Perhaps what we’re seeing is preparation for the next iteration of America’s perpetual state of war.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the conclusion of the Cold War (“the end of history,” as Francis Fukuyama, called it), there was no global enemy for America to face down. No big nasty to spur weapons procurement, to justify a huge standing military with hundreds of bases around the world or to pick fights with to allow a president down in the polls to morph into a superhero….

It seems the very dangerous prospect of a Clinton presidency is beginning to penetrate even the dimmest of players: she will have no hesitation in sacrificing human life for her aims.
That, and the lukewarm response from Trump should the Baltics be ‘attacked’ (I.e. false/flagged) re NATO response.
With ‘allies’ like this, who but a fool would be making enemies with a nuclear power right on the doorstep?
So true. You know, I’ve been going over Canada’s shameless, gruesome participation in the NATO intervention in former Yugoslavia. From peacekeeper to peacemaker,is how some described the shift. There was no debate in the media or even in Parliament. The ruling Liberals and all four parties in opposition all agreed to this. All five parties in agreement!! That’s so unlikely. And one analyst’s view is that there was no debate because every politician knew that Canadians wouldn’t support this if they really knew what was happening, and Canada’s role in it. I, myself, was blissfully clueless. Believed all the MSM reports. My parents’ church sponsored several refugee families from Kosovo. My cousin even learned Albanian and went to Kosovo as a nurse with an Evangelical Christian mission group!! She recently died of breast cancer at 36 years old. Now I wonder if she was exposed to radiation or some chemical weapons while she was in Kosovo. Will never know.
So obviously, Canada’s government had an airtight reason to participate in this NATO campaign. Wouldn’t have mattered which party was in power, they all would have made the same decision. From my perspective now, I feel like the Canadian people didn’t do the right thing in order to promote a peacekeeping role for Canada. By “right”, I mean ” necessary “. Because it seems the only thing that allows Canada as a country to function as peacekeeper is our role in the balance of power between the USA and the USSR. It seems like we citizens live in a magical fairyland sometimes, where we actually believe we can hold up signs, make clever peace-y mottos, and thus prevent Canada from participating in US-led wars. If we were brutally honest, and realised the only way to be peace-promoting is if we are part of this balance of powers, I think citizen peace activists would be much more effective. OK, maybe the govt couldn’t launch some “balancing” initiative, because of American backlash, but we the people could have. Hindsight. I’m grateful for the possibility of living in a world with a balance among forces again. Putin’s comments on this strike very close to home.

From Pat Buchanan’s latest column:
“Eisenhower refused to intervene to save the Hungarian rebels. JFK refused to halt the building of the Berlin Wall. LBJ did nothing to impede the Warsaw Pact’s crushing of the Prague Spring. Reagan never considered moving militarily to halt the smashing of Solidarity.
Were all these presidents cringing isolationists?
Rather, they were realists who recognized that, though we prayed the captive nations would one day be free, we were not going to risk a world war, or a nuclear war, to achieve it. Period.
In 1991, President Bush told Ukrainians that any declaration of independence from Moscow would be an act of “suicidal nationalism.”
Very, vey few think he did correctly regard foreign policies-this one right on target.
And no one on the Soviet side intervened to stop the US invasion of Korea either, during the so -called Korean War. Nor the British,French, and Israeli occupation of Egyptian territory during the Suez Crisis. The Soviets didn’t intervene when the US invaded the Dominican Republic in 1965. Nor when they occupied South Vietnam, and bombed for years the sovereign nations of North Vietnam,Laos, and Cambodia. Nor intervened at the US invasion of Grenada . Nor stopped the US Panama invasion. The Soviets stood by and let those happen. Instead of intervening at the risk of a nuclear war.The reason I’m mentioning these (there are others left out) is because the statements made appear to set a double standard (one more of so many). Where some US leaders are thought to have been,”intelligent,far-sided,kind,etc,etc,” for not doing something they had no ability to do in the first place, even if they wanted to. And yet the Soviets showing the exact same restraint, and being “intelligent,far-sided,kind,etc,etc”,are not even thought off.The US “expects” its adversaries to show that,I’d say,”rational thinking”. While they themselves “claim” some kind of a “halo” when they show rational thinking. As if the “Gods of the earth” have done a favor to the World in saving themselves from a crushing defeat in a nuclear holocaust war. Its just that “kind” of inbred thinking from some Americans (even some on the right side usually) that feeds that image of “exceptionalism” that is destroying the US and the World. Neither the US or the Soviets had some kind of desire to “spare” their enemy. They both knew that to get involved with what, in those days would be considered the others “sphere” or to cross well defined “Red lines”.Would have led to a war ,neither could be sure of winning. Or with winning at the cost of losing the World.
Other issues in that article’s statement I’ll mention . The Hungarian Revolt was encouraged directly by the US. The Hungarians had some grievances certainly, but many of the elements in the revolt were from the old regime in Hungary. The pro-fascists of that time. And after the first demands for reform were met, aided by US encouragement, pressed on with the revolt. Sounds a great deal like the Ukrainian maidan. Except the pre-revolt Communist regime was much worse than the Ukrainian pre-maidan one was.Once that government was replaced, everything could have gotten better. Except for the US and pro-fascists carrying on the revolt. Regarding the Berlin Wall, the US and West Germans had encouraged East Germans to use East Berlin as a point of immigration. And their radio broadcasts were so effective (early practice for the MSM) that border control was becoming impossible there. Some of those crossing had even killed border guards and the East Germans decided only a wall could stop that type of thing. And many experts point to the US/NATO using the Prague Spring as an early “Color Revolution”,that failed. It started out like most revolutions do with wanting reform. But then turned (with Western encouragement) to extremist (under the circumstances) ideas, which sealed its fate. Lastly the Solidarity movement in Poland was another (as has come out now) attempt by the West at a color revolution.Taking the desire for needed reforms, and co-opting it to try and undermine the government. The Western propaganda of those events “fail” to mention those facts in their stories.

During the occupation of Iraq U.S. intelligence and military services contracted CACI International Inc, a U.S. company in Virginia, to provide “intelligence services” in Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad. CACI employees were directly involved in torturing Iraqi prisoners.
The U.S. army recently contracted CACI for “intelligence analysis services” in Syria. The Syrian government has not invited or otherwise allowed U.S. military or its contractors to enter the country. Any such activities infringe on Syria’s sovereignty and are thereby in violation of international law.
The re-engagement of such a controversial company for services in the area boosts the recruitment appeal of the Islamic State.

Before the so-called US-led “liberation” of Libya in 2011, there were no ISIL forces there. ISIL in Libya is a problem created by their “humanitarian” intervention. The “grand Libya success” – state collapse, spending years now drowning in instability, anarchy, fractured militia rule, sectarian conflict, violent extremism and terrorism, civilian deaths and suffering along with a slew of unpredictable outcomes – should never repeat itself again, much less be a model for other “humanitarian” efforts.

Saudi Arabia Yet to Sway UN over Yemen Coalition Blacklisting
This little nugget here is downright telling—not far to imagine from a scenario where say S.A. promises some spare change to appear in a secret bank account if he first just arbitrarily with no evidence one way or another removes S.A. from the list, then LO! more spare change to appear same account if he can arrange a ‘ S.A.-friendly’ report.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon temporarily removed the coalition from the blacklist – contained in an annex to the report – on June 6 pending a joint review after Saudi Arabia, a key UN donor, threatened to cut funding to the world body.

As usual, the café is full of top-notch news, musings, and more. I lift my head out of reading the words on this tiny screen to wonder about ioan? Who came down with a cold in the middle of summer? Hope you are recovering quickly, ioan, and maybe an espresso in the café is not to your taste at the moment. I can imagine a chamomile tea or a bowl of broth may be a preferred choice. Get well soon, and look forward to the next verses!
Hopefully, the despicable idea of banning the Russian “Paralympic” team from the Rio Games will be “a bridge too far” for the Russian government. And they will “finally” take action to end the charade of the Olympic Movement. And do as I, and multiple others, inside and outside Russia ,have called for. The creation of a truly “non-political” World Sports Association. The banning of this team (if done) will certainly further enrage an already livid Russian citizenry. So again “hopefully” the government will finally stop this charade “this time”.

My thought –
Organize the ultimate Olympic Competition in Syria, Aleppo: Aviation and land based “terro-Rats” hunting in Aleppo. All countries are welcomed to join the 1 month-long international anti-terror event. National teams that raked in the most kills/spectacular destruction of terrorist personnel and equipment will be awarded with a 100kg pure gold trophy and a 1-month vacation in Crimea plus Russian equivalents of the Medals of Honor! Live broadcast on TV too!
Oh,the irony ,boggles the imagination. Obama saying today that Trump was “unfit to be President”. A statement coming from a man that “huge” numbers, maybe the majority, of Americans believe is totally unfit to be President. And who supports a women who is the “poster-child” for “unfit to be President”. If it wasn’t so tragic it would be hilarious. I’m torn over whether to cry or laugh at his statement. So I’ll settle for just being mad over it.

Hi Uncle Bob :)
Your post somehow reminded me of Gore Vidal’s American Presidency: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbOQcHZSY_Q
Missed Gore Vidal… As to Khizr Khan’s comments to defame Trump and to equate temporary stopping refugees and immigrations from countries affected by Islamic terrorist to “anti-islam”, Trump should simply respectfully ask them to visit and look at peoples, Christians, Jews, Muslims and others, killed by radical Islamic terrorism all over the world. Trump actually did that, but I felt it was ineffective over twitter. Even better to be more vocal and link the rise of ISIS with Hillary Clinton regarding Libya and Iraq and to report to the people the carnage caused by radical Islamic terrorism in terms of the scale of people killed (which he did also!). As I read somewhere, put the spotlight back to those defamers and they will melt like butter under the light!
Seems the “liberal” establishment and the warmongers together are intoxicated with power and status, now is the time for Trump to further destroy the rigged system and their phony puppets. Corporate interests + Neocons + Special interests + Wall Street + Foreign interests + Press behind Hillary. The democratic party is now officially the duper party…
Seems to be pretty direct message, live from the safety of his palace yet.

Turkey’s Erdogan Accuses West of ’Supporting Coup Plotters’
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday launched his most bitter attack yet on Turkey’s Western allies over the July 15 attempted putsch, accusing them of supporting both “terror” and the coup plotters who tried to unseat him.
Erdogan, who blames the plot on the US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, also described the coup as a “scenario written from outside” in an allusion to foreign involvement.Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Turkey meanwhile issued arrest warrants for about 100 staff, including doctors, at Ankara’s main military hospital, and even fired football referees in a new phase of the crackdown after the failed coup that has seen some 18,000 detained and caused international consternation.

Russian leadership i.e. President Putin is now serious about a ‘real’ turnaround of the Russian economy. Instead of ‘somehow pull on with focus on stable dollar-backed currency’ or ‘growth through the export-oriented economy similar to east and south-east Asian countries’, Putin has decided to bring the economists group who favours ‘domestic-consumption based mixed economy with national currency’. An informative write by Engdahl:
http://journal-neo.org/2016/08/02/putin-nyet-to-neo-liberals-da-to-national-development/
It has been a long long time that Russia has been earning their export revenue primarily through hydrocarbon extraction and selling. If Stolypin Club with Sergey Glazyev on the lead can get the authority to drive the Russian economy, they will do wonders …
This is something which I always dreamt of – Russia (and China) establishing a society with focus on justice-equality-morality-truth. I am equally confident that, without the right kind of anti-capitalist anti-imperialist anti-elitist anti-‘Liberal’ anti-supremacist (and, hence anti-AZ cabal) ideology that is not possible – Glazyev will bring in that ideology with his no nonsense approach. Putin should now ensure that, Stolypin Club economists are able to perform freely without the Liberals creating new hurdles.
Stolypin Club should not leave a very important aspect aside – the demographic status of Russian society is not very healthy. No offence to any particular ‘ism’ like ‘feminism’ or ‘liberalism’, but to maintain a society-culture-language-economy in a region, a healthy demography and a slow population growth is a must. Stolypin Club should create awareness within Russian society and provide incentives to increase population density in east of Urals and drive economic growth. Providing right kind of education-healthcare-infrastructure should be part of the economic rejuvenation programme. This programme can also be connected with the overall Chinese OBOR-driven infrastructural and economic growth in east Russia and central Asia for coming 15 – 20 years. Wishing all success to the economic rejuvenation of Russia !
It will not be prudent on my part to ignore the elephant in the room – yes, I’m talking about Chinese economy, not about China. Contrary to many other economists/specialists/commenters/authors who have their strong positive views about strength of Chinese economy, I’m a bit pessimist. China went through the same road mid-1980s onwards as couple of east Asian countries did much earlier – the road of export-driven economic growth. China did more diligently and with more state control. However, due to two aspects, that type of economic growth can’t be sustained – firstly, massive built-up of manufacturing capacity in any one country (or few countries) will bound to create small-to-large protectionist measures among other countries in the world which will create backward ripples in the economy of the exporter country, secondly, sudden surge of economic activities (to create such giant overcapacity) through credit money supply will result in instability in monetary system, which in turn will create hurdles to convert into ‘domestic consumption’-based economy. Thus, while Chinese OBOR programme is a tremendous boost for economic growth in east Russia, and central Asia, there may be very complex issues during actual implementation.
However, we look forward to a successful Russia-China socio-political-economic rejuvenation after crossing all hurdles which will also pull Iran and Kazakhstan to start with (and, then, bring in the other countries in EEU and SCO groups) !
Did you really mean to say beer or actually a can of (russian) “bear”…..!!!!!!!

“VILNIUS, August 3. /TASS/. A jubilee coin dedicated to Vilnius’ liberation and issued by Russia’s Central Bank from its series called, Capitals Liberated by Soviet Troops from Fascist Invaders, has prompted a negative response from Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry.
“We know Russia’s position and the coin issuance only confirms that Russia is not ready for the historical truth about Soviet occupation,” according to a statement by Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Political Director Rolandas Kacinskas on Wednesday.
Inscribed on the commemorative coin are the words – ‘Vilnius’ and ‘July 13, 1944’ – the day when the Soviet Army emancipated the city from Nazi occupation. It also depicts the sculptural composition “On Guard for Peace” that was dismantled for allegedly being in dilapidated condition. The statue had been installed on a Vilnius bridge in 1952. Local radicals, however, constantly pressure authorities to pull down “such symbols of Soviet occupation.” According to Kacinskas, Lithuanians do not consider it to be liberation.
Among the other cities freed from Nazi occupation, which the Russian Central Bank coin series commemorates are Belgrade, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Vienna, Kiev, Chisinau, Minsk, Prague, Riga and Tallinn.

Erdogan Wants to ‘Smash NATO Secret Army’ Allegedly Involved in Attempted Coup
http://sputniknews.com/politics/20160803/1043902428/erdogan-smash-nato-secret-army.html
“……..”If one wants to again create relationship of trust with the Western institutions, Gladio [clandestine NATO structure] in Turkey must be eliminated as it already was in several Western countries” Turkish journalist Ozcan Tikit wrote for newspaper Habertürk.
According to DWN, Erdogan and the Turkish government are determined to “completely smash this clandestine structure.”
“Erdogan is determined to smash Gladio in any case. Because the head of state has — albeit belatedly — realized that NATO seeks to harm Turkey’s territorial integrity,” the newspaper noted.
At the same time, former head of Turkish intelligence services Bülent Orakoglu argued that NATO’s secret structures are active not only in Turkey, but also in the whole Europe.
“There is a force that wants the EU to dissolve. This force is a new form of Gladio, which carries out its operations among the population. I am confident that there is a Gladio structure in Europe which is working towards the dissolution of the EU,” Orakoglu said.
During the Cold War, the United States created secret armies in Europe tasked to organize resistance in case of Soviet invasion. However, these secret armies that belonged to the so called Gladio network also reportedly organized terrorist attacks in the form of so called “false flag operations” to shape the political landscape in accordance with the interests of the United States…..”
Some of us,me included, tend to think of Erdogan as a savage murderer. But even a “savage murderer.” would have to be “brain-dead”, to not see, after the coup, that his “NATO allies” want him destroyed. And to ever trust them “again” is a sure road to the “boneyard” for him and his regime.Unless he can clear out the pro-Western NGO’s and pro-NATO supporters among his military and officials. He would be safer to resign and ask for asylum in Russia (or somewhere else, away from the West’s deadly reach). He might not be going to join a “lovefeast” with Russia,Syria,Iran,or China. But he needs to have good relations with them. And to, “at the least” start being neutral in this struggle. He has everything personally to gain by that. And everything personally to lose by trusting NATO ever again. So we’ll see in the coming period if he is more than a savage murderer. But is a savage murderer with a self-survival instinct as well.
After all Uncle Bob, just because you’re a savage murderer doesn’t mean you are also stupid. Lacking in a soul, anything that makes for a human being, yes.
But stupid – No.
Haha, hence whether we will see the “self-survival” instinct I mentioned come to the fore.Throughout Turkish (Ottoman) history when the leader fails he is put to death. The job with the lowest survival rate in the government used to be “Grand Vizier” ,make the wrong move and it was your last move. Erdogan needs to think long and hard on that. And whether he can trust his NATO allies to not be holding the “silken neck scarf” for him.

@ mundanomaniac ( your English translations are gems probably because they run in a free form lyricism unfettered by years of high school English taught to an entire generation from the same books). So thank you . As for your theme: Victim to player …oh yes and let the player not be the victimizer either. We in the US are being hammered with either/or dichotomies: vote for either the racist or the warmonger! And a grieving father uses a political platform to project his son’s death in a political attack which is contemptuously returned and, voila, we have victim and victimizer. Both are poor players who strut and fret across the stage morphing back and forth one into another.
It is the psyche of the US at war with itself.

I have to share it with this special kind of somebody, JUNGs “Selbst”, that dwells in me, in my heart, operating my totality via brain, apparently loving English and since 2008- crash was fascinated by Ives Smith’s ” naked capitalism” – – – my school-English of 1952- 58 got a kick of enthusiasm (translated Walter Benjamins “Capitalism is a Religion”), and walked since then every day in my link-garden …

note the astounding lack of any proof of anything happening at all, considering with all the sat data, radar tracking, ships at sea etc they should know to the meter where it landed.
North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile toward Sea of Japan
North Korea has launched a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan, which reportedly landed in or near Japanese-controlled waters for the first time.

China has blocked a US-drafted UN Security Council statement condemning North Korea over its latest missile test.
The 15-member council met for an emergency closed-door meeting on Wednesday, after the North launched two intermediate-range missiles earlier in the day.
One of the projectiles reportedly exploded shortly after takeoff and the second landed in the Sea of Japan some 250 kilometers (155 miles) off the country’s northern coast.
Not bad range for an inflatable missile:

There seems to be a consensus among many (including in Russia) that Germany is waiting to “embrace” Russia. And is only held back from those great future relations by the US and NATO forcing them to act like they do now.I have never agreed with that thinking. I certainly believe the US and NATO pressure on Germany is strong. But I think that the thinking that the Germans are “friends” to Russia is wishful thinking.A business alliance and close friendly relations ,between Russia and Germany, would be in the best interests of both countries (as would a alliance between the US and Russia be in their best interests too). But that is also daydreaming. History has dealt other cards for relations between Germany and Russia. WWI, WWII,and the Cold War,sealed their relations. And nothing since has changed that.During the two World Wars,Germany showed their hatred ,and more importantly, fear of a strong Russia. During the Cold War ,when Germany was offered the status of Austria,to become a neutral state. The Bonn government refused that, and instead embraced NATO and the US as Russia’s enemy.Times have not changed. Germany was up to their armpits in the NATO expansion towards Russia. She connived with the US in the Ukraine coup. And is one of the main backers of the EU sanctions. While its true that German business suffers because of that. It doesn’t matter at all. Political leaders only listen to business leaders when it suits them.If the Germans had considered “business leaders” needs, they would have allied with Russia long ago.Even today with the migrant crisis in Europe. And terrorist attacks stalking Europe, including Germany. Over two-thirds of Germans think Merkel bears no responsibility for that. And her policies didn’t help them to happen. The West’s and NATO’s propaganda is too strong in Germany. And it falls on ears more than willing to believe it.Its pastime that Russia’s leadership accepts that fact. And stop’s the endless dreaming of Russo-German friendship. The Tsar thought that way too, until the Kaiser declared war on Russia. And even Stalin was confused on that until June 1941,and Barbarossa woke him up.Gorbachev accepted the honey sweet words of German officials that “Nato will not move one meter more than East Germany”.Now we still hear the thinking that “we can deal with Germany”.Let Russia’s “past” dealings with Germany be the guide to whether they can or not.
Germany is a territory under occupation.
Since its occupation by the Allied powers in 1945 only the Soviet Union’s troops have withdrawn from German soil – and this only because the Soviet Union has ceased to exist.
Hitler was obliged by his office to appoint a successor before killing himself, and he did so in his last will and testament: https://web.archive.org/web/20160306185802/http://ibiblio.org/pha/policy/1945/450429a.html Who in the cafe isn’t interested to read this document?
This excellent essay from 1983 describes the appointment of Grand Admiral Karl Donitz as Adolf Hitler’s successor and the acceptance of his appointment by the Allied powers: http://www.ihr.org/jhr/v04/v04p305_thompson.html
Regrettably, the Grand Admiral and his government were kidnapped by the ‘anglozionists’ and replaced by puppet regimes, which, more or less, remain in place today. To quote from Thompson’s essay
“…A legitimate government cannot be “dissolved” by military order of an external enemy, nor by taking its members forcibly under arrest. Having come legally into power, and having been recognized by the very forces which were to order its “dissolution,” the Dönitz government remains in history as the last de jure and de facto government of a United Germany. The establishment by the Allies of their own puppet regimes in West Germany (the so-called Federal Republic) and in Central Germany (the so-called German Democratic Republic) merely underscores the continuing zonal occupation of the German nation almost 40 years after the military conclusion of World War II. This is well pointed up by the maintenance of the prison at Spandau in West Berlin, containing one solitary nonagenarian prisoner (Rudolf Hess), and administered in rotation by the governments of the United States, Great Britain, France, and the USSR. Despite some opposition exhibited by the Western puppet regime to its masters, any claim to genuine independence by either the western or eastern puppet regime is ludicrous in view of the continuing military presence in both those countries of the forces of the former Allies.
Grand Admiral Dönitz then, on 23 May 1945, became another prisoner of war, and the staggering burden of responsibilities for the German nation was taken from his shoulders by jailkeepers.” End quote.
I think it was Oscar Wilde who described England as “the most deeply penetrated of the British colonies”, a quote I enjoy, whether by Oscar or not, and to borrow the phrase, one might describe Germany as “the most deeply penetrated of the anglozionist colonies”.
Hitler sought to free Germany from the grip of international financiers and said financiers killed sixty million people to thwart him.
Putin in his own [translated] words “can keep quiet about a lot of things” as he goes about the business of freeing mother Russia from ‘debt slavery’.
Putin is right to tread carefully.
I see these posts about Germany being occupied all the time (as if that is the excuse for her actions). But in reality, what are the number of “occupation” troops compared to the German military forces. When thinking of the term “occupied country” one thinks of a country with mass numbers of foreign troops on their soil. And no military forces of their own. As was the case in the “occupied Europe” of the early WW2 years. The US forces in Germany are much smaller than Hitler’s occupation forces in the countries of Europe in the 1940’s. Dwarfed by the German military forces. So that excuse rings false. It also doesn’t account for the past times I mentioned where an unoccupied Germany was Russia’s enemy. The fact is the German government is totally in league with the anti-Russian policies of NATO. They aren’t a hostage to those policies. They firmly back them.Whether a majority of Germans support the government is an interesting question. They elected them. And continue to do that, over and over.So I think they must have large popular support “somewhere”.No one stuck a gun to their heads and forced them to push the EU into supporting the coup junta in Ukraine .I find no “valid” excuse for Germany’s anti-Russian policies. Except the most obvious, they aren’t Russia’s friend.
Humm … wilful ignorance?
All wars are bankers wars.
It seems there is talk in the West that after the September Duma elections. The Russian government might be restructured, and Medvedev replaced by,(wait for it)”Kudrin”. Replacing a possible Fox in the hen-house with a Wolf instead. I certainly hope that is total nonsense. If not, then they will have lost control of the government to the 5th column entirely.
https://www.rt.com/politics/354473-reading-tea-leaves–peskov/
LOL
Dear Uncle Bob, please remember your own critique of RT “it has been invaded by 5th columnists”.
If this is on RT as a repeat of some sort of Western narrative, it’s either there to give the readers another laugh at the stupid Russia-dense Westerners, or it’s more 5th column.
What Peskov has to say is to the point. It’s more “stirring” and absolute codswallop.
And Kudrin isn’t a “friend” of Putin. As he does with everyone, Putin meets with him on rare occasions, listens, decides if there is anything there worth using, and goes his way. He effectively neutralised Kudrin once and for all by giving him a position which is “all noise, signifying nothing” .
Putin et al need to contain the 5th column libtards. You don’t do this by eliminating them; this brings on huge problems and seed for growth of big upsets with with your other opponents. You give them cause and an excuse to accuse you of being “a dictator, removing democracy, freedom of speech” and so on and so on. They start colour revolutions over it, and the Soros den of vipers use it to exemplify how you “need to be removed”. And now you have a problem to deal with of your own making which is stopping you from doing what you really need to do – get good economic reform and elimination of corruption established.
So — you appear to like them. You let them be in positions where they can’t, actually, do any harm. You are always polite about them. And if it suits your purpose to appear to listen to something they recommend, something you wanted anyway, you go along with it appearing to let them take credit.
And that way everything stays relatively peaceful and happy and you have cut the ground from underneath Soros and his pals, and you can get on with what you really like.
It’s subtle, nuanced, and clever. And it works. And it’s what I see Putin and team doing over and over, to the absolute fury of their Western enemies.
Dont drink the KoolAid my friend – it’s just what they want.

Poland getting a little difficult for ‘no reason”??
“As we all know, both large international events have finished on the territory of Poland. In this regard, we think that there are no grounds to uphold the suspension of the agreement,” the ministry continued. “However, Polish Deputy Interior Minister Jaroslaw Zielinski said on August 2 that local border traffic with Russia will not be resumed due to ‘consistent security problems that served as a reason to temporarily suspend’ local border traffic,” the foreign ministry said.
Such statements are “at least surprising,” the ministry went on.

BRUSSELS, July 13 /TASS/. Russia’s Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko has accused NATO of creating a bridgehead for exerting military pressure on Moscow in the Baltic States and Poland thus transferring Russia’s relations with those countries into a military dimension.
“The danger consists in the fact that today NATO is building its policy of confrontation on a mythical threat from Russia and military preparations near our borders. This territory [the Baltic States and Poland where NATO battalions are going to be deployed – TASS] is turning into a bridgehead for exerting military and political pressure on Russia and is transferring our relations with those states to a military dimension,” the Russian diplomat said.

WARSAW, August 4. /TASS/. Plans by Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada to vote for a bill declaring the actions of the Polish state against Ukrainians in 1919-1951 as genocide shocked the Polish Foreign Ministry, Rafal Sobchak, the ministry’s spokesman, said on Thursday. Mrs William Clinton has an advanced and advancing case of Dementia, proven. You can see her Dementia attacks as she yells speeches out, they will stop her or she begins to shake uncontrollably, or her mouth opens even wider and her whole head shakes as if an uncontrollable ague attack. A formal paper on her condition just was e-published and evidently the internet media were not informed as it shut down briefly.
Two and three days ago I witnessed her Dementia attacks in the middle of speeches she was giving. Interestingly her speeches seem to be more yelling performances about one or at the most two paragraphs long. Understandable now one understands her actual condition. The CIA and Obama Government supporting her so long must know all about her condition. The US lawlessness comes out in the open hand in hand with true mass madness. Honesty in Government is therefore wiser than not. Truth to power.
