  I have to wonder at the mindset of some of these sort of people that describe a plane that they admit is extremely reliable and efficient in all conditions as primitive and built with a sledge hammer.
  
  I watch the latest russian planes taking a casual, lazy tumble through the air in a way that appears to break all the laws of both laminar and turbulent air flow……

    It is probably ascribable to a paucity of linguistic ability.
    Can’t think of a way to say the Russian planes are built way stronger than the American ones and not gussied up with overengineered gewgaws.
    
    Also, you can do a lot of unintended damage with a scalpel. Better an ax in the hand of a master than a scalpel in the hands of a madman.
    
    For me the most telling sentence was “These are not sports planes.”
    (Left unsaid: And we are not playing around.)
