It’s good to see a few reports like this with the English subtitles. RT and sputnik are very bland though they’ve started on the dirt a bit since the SU-24 was shot down.
Interesting seeing the report of US boats being taken under control by Iran for “straying” into their waters by Reuters. Then today I see Reuters had an article on Iranian prisoners in the US hoping for an early release?
Flick over to Sputnik and they reckon Iran has confiscated the GPS units off the boats and have proof the US boats were spying/eaves dropping. :)
It is a very restricted area and the US sailors were snooping…
Now why don’t some go on didn’t they have GPS and such? I mean this has been a restricted area for decades and they are very strict about it. So it is not something that just came about. It is one of the areas which Iran uses for force projection. So it could contain a lot of stuff that others want to know about. Also very close to the mainland and some other countries hosting US and UK bases…. US would have made a stink about this if someone had approached Diego Garcia.. This island is as important to Iran as that is to the US. I bet the US would never release anyone they caught snooping in such an area.. national security would lock them up for 20 years.
Iran issued a press release.. The US soldiers did their hill belli dance and pulled guns out until Iran brought in the big guns and had a stand off for 40 minutes.. Not professional at all. It all looks like a scouting mission. They would have been released right away but pulling out the guns was not a smart move. And if one of the boats was disabled, why not get on the other one and leave? Or tow the other one back.. The US explanation is not credible. Seeing they have done similar things in the past. But Iran is not escalating it as the sanctions come off at the end of the month.. And a training exercise far fro base at night? Near a restricted area? conveniently they landed on… Kind of like the hostage rescue mission that did not work out.
Associated Press is reporting that one of the American ships actually got so far into Iranian territorial waters that it ran aground on Farsi Island, which houses a large Iranian naval base. The sailors were said to be on a training mission.
Indications are that the incident was too late Tuesday night local time to arrange an immediate return, and the sailors will head home Wednesday.

Syrian army enters rebel bastion of Salma. Army, Supported by pro-regime militias, Hezbollah fighters, intense Russian air strikes, enters rebel bastion in Latakia province.
DAMASCUS – Syrian regime forces advanced Tuesday into the main bastion of rebels in the northwestern province of Latakia, the coastal heartland of President Bashar al-Assad’s clan, a monitor said.
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the British-based monitor, said pro-government forces were locked in fierce fighting with rebels including Islamist hardliners Ahrar al-Sham and Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front.

I wonder how much irony is present he was saying in statement about despite international effort to prevent terrorism……reinforcements still arrive from Turkey….international terrorists must also refer to those sponsored, supplied by Saudi and associates..note Rus has increasing number of “patriotic forces’ working with them surely cos they see an effective strategy occuring and an ability to create success, these groups not working? with the for example Uk Cameron says were moderate opposition working with USA coalition, from which we never get such an indepth assessment as the above, neither do we really hear from the so called Saudi coalition……………just **** from U S state department briefings Kirby etc , their patheticness surely is contrasted with the professionalism of the Rus military forces.
On to Palmyra, Raquaa….its inevitable, achievable………..
How Russian Indian relationship developed.. It is important to keep in mind the thinking of the times and what happened to develop that trust.. Note how the US had operatives in the Indian parliament. It also shows how and why it became a close relationship.. Compare it to the US relationship with their allies… Both have to strive to build and keep trust. To know the other will be there in times of need. Looks like the US did the very same thing to India as they did to Russia to drive them towards the Chinese.. Just amazing to see how the US drives away allies they could use if they cant control them like a vassal. And how 2 countries with barely anything in common at the time became such close allies. You can see they don’t even trade much and almost nothing until recently.
Nixon: I want the Indians blamed for this, you know what I mean? We can’t let these goddamn, sanctimonious Indians get away with this. They’ve pissed on us on Vietnam for 5 years, Henry.
Nixon: The Pakistan thing makes your heart sick. For them to be done so by the Indians and after we have warned the bitch (reference to Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi). Tell them that when India talks about West Pakistan attacking them it’s like Russia claiming to be attacked by Finland.
“The Soviets could not see why the White House supported Pakistan, who they believed had started the war against India. Brezhnev, puzzled at first, was soon enraged. In his narrow circle, he even suggested giving India the secret of the atomic bomb. His advisers did their best to kill this idea. Several years later, Brezhnev still reacted angrily and spoke spitefully about American behaviour.”
In an interview to a Russian TV programme after his retirement, Admiral Kruglyakov, who commanded the Pacific Fleet from 1970 to 1975, recalled that Moscow ordered the Russian ships to prevent the Americans and British from getting closer to “Indian military objects”. The genial Kruglyakov added: “The Chief Commander’s order was that our submarines should surface when the Americans appear. It was done to demonstrate to them that we had nuclear submarines in the Indian Ocean. So when our subs surfaced, they recognised us. In the way of the American Navy stood the Soviet cruisers, destroyers and atomic submarines equipped with anti-ship missiles. We encircled them and trained our missiles at the Enterprise. We blocked them and did not allow them to close in on Karachi, Chittagong or Dhaka.”
Interestingly, while the cable is declassified, the source and extensive details of the Indian Prime Minister’s briefing remain classified. “He is a reliable source” is all that the document says. There was very clearly a cabinet level mole the Americans were getting their information from.
The Pakistani military was being bolstered by aircraft from Jordan, Iran, Turkey and France. Moral and military support was amply provided by the US, China and the UK. Though not mentioned in the conversations here, the UAE sent in half a squadron of fighter aircraft and the Indonesians dispatched at least one naval vessel to fight alongside the Pakistani Navy.
Kissinger: The carriers—everything is moving. Four Jordanian planes have already moved to Pakistan, 22 more are coming. We’re talking to the Saudis, the Turks we’ve now found are willing to give five. So we’re going to keep that moving until there’s a settlement.
Nixon: Could you tell the Chinese it would be very helpful if they could move some forces or threaten to move some forces?
Kissinger: Absolutely.
Nixon: But these Indians are cowards. Right?
Kissinger: Right. But with Russian backing. You see, the Russians have sent notes to Iran, Turkey, to a lot of countries threatening them. The Russians have played a miserable game.
Nixon: The Indians need—what they need really is a—
Kissinger: They’re such bastards.
Nixon: A mass famine. But they aren’t going to get that…But if they’re not going to have a famine the last thing they need is another war. Let the goddamn Indians fight a war.
Kissinger: They are the most aggressive goddamn people around there.
In the mid 1960s, when the Indian Navy began to acquire equipment from Russia, there was hardly anyone within the service who knew the Russian language. That began to change as India ramped up its purchases of high-octane hardware from Russia. By 1970, dozens of Indian seamen, mainly those from the 25th Missile Squadron, were undergoing naval training in Vladivostok.
Language advantage
A key – and unusual – advantage with the Indian Navy was the Osa crews’ fluency in the Russian language. Communication between the attacking vessels, Naval HQ at Mumbai and the IAF was extensively in Russian.
Impact on India-Russia relations
In ‘Transition to Eminence: The Indian Navy 1976-1990’, former vice admiral G.M. Hiranandani writes that in the early years of Russia-India naval cooperation, the relationship matured extremely slowly because of two main factors. One, there was “a near total paucity of naval personnel who knew the Russian language”. Secondly, there was the extreme secretiveness – bordering on paranoia – of the Russian specialists who came to India.
“Within the Russian Navy respect had developed for the way the Indian Navy had used what Russia had supplied. The Russian side responded positively to the Navy’s requests for progressively better equipment in future acquisitions.”
“These factors combined to constrict the interaction that was so essential for coping with the new Russian technologies and procedures,” Hiranandani writes. “Interaction improved slowly as the two sides got to know each other. It was after the 1971 War that interaction rose exponentially.”
India was already turning away from the US by the time of major US involvement in Vietnam. Indians have a lot of the blame. But as I was saying elsewhere, people are not all the same. Their behavior shows vast variations. The results are not always positive as we see here even if we consider that behavior humane. You have to remember like most countries, India following ghandi decided the US was the beacon they wanted to flow.. Just like how the Chinese and the Vietnamese before them.. Yet they turned them all into enemies.. This behavior we can easily see here… and exactly why India decided to turn to the soviet union instead of an almost identical political ally. It also shows how centauries of UK cultivated vassals turned away from masta.. Things haven’t changed in over 50 years.. Guess being exceptional means not having to learn from your mistakes.
In May 1964, Indian Defence Minister Yashwantrao Chavan made a visit to the Pentagon, the HQ of the American defence department. Chavan, who was trying to rapidly modernise the Indian military, requested the Americans to sell India the F-104 Starfighter – the most advanced jet fighter of that era.
Although the US had supplied the F-104 and the F-86 Sabres in large numbers – virtually free of cost – to Pakistan, India’s request was rebuffed in an extremely crude manner.
In his brilliant little book, ‘1965 War: The Inside Story’, former Maharashtra chief secretary R.D. Pradhan narrates what US Defence Secretary Robert McNamara told Chavan: “Mr Minister, your air force is like a museum. I wonder whether you are aware of the variety of aircraft in your air force. You are still operating with Hunters, Spitfires, Vampires, Liberators, Harvards – exotic names of World War II vintage. All these aircraft are only worthy of finding a place in a museum.”
McNamara suggested that until India disbanded that fleet, it was no use acquiring any sophisticated aircraft.
What the American secretary said was offensive – and true. Although the US did not offer any help, what India did with its antiquated planes and vintage tanks remains the stuff of legend. Pradhan says, “With that background, it was an exhilarating moment when some of those junk planes, such as the Mysteres, Vampires and Hunters performed brilliantly against Pakistan’s sophisticated F-86s. In fact, the indigenously built Gnat, a small beaver-like fighter, brought down several F-86s.”
The 1965 War remains memorable for two things. One was a monumental miscalculation by Pakistan. President Ayub Khan, egged on by his scheming and feckless Foreign Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, sent a top-secret order to his army chief General Mohammed Musa: “As a general rule, Hindu morale would not stand for more than a couple of hard blows delivered at the right time and the right place. Such opportunities should therefore be sought and exploited.”
Secondly, India’s leadership – as it has done consistently over the past 2500 years – frittered away on the negotiating table what the soldiers won on the battlefield. Pradhan writes: “In a way, India’s leadership, out of its sense of restraint, fair play and endeavor to seek enduring peace and goodwill with the neighbor, seems to have missed opportunities to solve the problem.”
Wilson’s message implied that India was as much to blame for the war on the subcontinent as Pakistan. “Shastri more or less brushed aside that message,” says Pradhan. “Bias on the part of Britain would rule out the UK from playing any effective role in events after the ceasefire.”
Russia also backed India at the United Nations. K. Vijaykrishnan writes in ‘The Soviet Union and the India-Pakistan War, 1965’, “Support was available for India on some important technical points and objections India had raised,” he says. Russia supported the Indian position that the Security Council should only deal with “questions directly connected with the settlement of the armed conflict” and not drag in the Kashmir issue.
Fending off China was a trickier affair. Russia did not want an open confrontation with Beijing, but Moscow decided it would not remain a passive spectator if India had to battle on two fronts. According to Vijaykrishnan, during the thick of the conflict, India received a reassuring message from Russian Premier Alexei Kosygin indicating support in the event of a Chinese attack.
Sisir Gupta writes in ‘India and the International System’ that India was aware Russia would never like to see India humbled or weakened. “A strong and friendly India occupying a pre-eminent position in South Asia was very much a Soviet foreign policy interest. Notwithstanding the fluctuations in the Soviet attitude and the zig-zag nature of the course it pursued, there was throughout a broad assumption underlying Soviet policies towards South Asia, that India was the key factor in the region and that any policy which created distrust and dissension between the two countries was to be avoided.”
Before leaving for Tashkent, Shastri – who was hero-worshiped by Indian soldiers – had promised his victorious troops that he would not return the land captured from the enemy after so many sacrifices. But after six days of talks, Shastri proved once again that Indians are bad negotiators. He gave away everything.
wow they really trashed the army chief Jayanto Nath Chaudhuri….Chaudhuri’s mentors were the Sandhurst educated British generals – who had utterly failed before the Germans and Japanese during World War II – and predictably he also lacked war fighting qualities.
Which just goes to show.. Not a good idea to appoint political and family connection to important positions..
Would it make a difference? Many large Indian news are collaborations with US news. Although I am surprised to see critical articles from smaller Indian news sources. Something like 5 mil Indians in the middle east so its risky.. I think RT has offices in India amongst other places. The infrastructure for large news orgs western style might not be available in india. Although I wonder what that entails. Jonny walker black might be included in that and chavez regal and that thick sweet liquorish they add to mixed drinks.. China needs something like RT. They cant even close the gap with fars and just use regurgitated Reuters.

MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. Actions of the organizers of the fourth Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) who suggest developing “instructions” for the UN and other organizations, fundamentally change the concept of the event and are unacceptable, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

“The organizers of the summit have fundamentally changed the concept of the event by proposing to develop some kind of ‘instructions’ for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism as well as the UN, Interpol and the Global Partnership,” the diplomat noted. “Apparently, such recommendations, whatever formal status they may have, will be an attempt to impose an opinion of a limited group of countries on the above-mentioned agencies and groups bypassing their own mechanisms of political decision-making.”

SIMFEROPOL, January 13. /TASS/. The Crimean parliament hopes to raise the issue of genocide of the peninsula’s residents on the part of Ukraine in international organizations. A statement to this effect has been forwarded to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. “The State Council of the Republic of Crimea … asks the Russian Foreign Ministry to render the political, diplomatic and information assistance in accordance with the established procedure in filing a request with the General Assembly and the Security Council of the United Nations, the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member-countries, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,” the document says. In particular, Crimea hopes that international organizations will be involved in conducting “an investigation into violating obligations by Ukraine to prevent genocide in accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide due to failure to take all possible steps to stop genocide against Crimea.” The Crimean lawmakers believe that after such investigation the actions of a group of persons on the so-called blockade of the Black Sea peninsula should be equated to the actions of Ukraine’s government bodies, “which should be regarded as the country’s responsibility for an international wrongful act.”

needs verifying? we know VP is acting against possible terrorists who might return to Rus, but hopefully this will not lead to an accusation that Rus terrorists are targeting Turkey-could be tricky with Erdogan, the games aren’t over yet………….
The arrest of the tree Russian citizens in Turkey raises a lot of questions and as you say,it could be very tricky. The German Media puts it in connection with the bombing of the german tourists in Istambul. This could have dangerous triggering effects.
Not necessarily, there are high number of russian citizens fighting for Daesh. That is one of the reasons for the russian military intervention, to fight them there and not at home. It was just a matter of time before some of them mess around elsewhere.
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An American political analyst said there is an apparent division of US elite on the question of relations with Iran, stressing that this split is over the means and not the aims.
“To be sure, the division is one of tactics, and not strategic objectives – they all agree that Iran, and the rest of the planet, must be subservient to the needs and wants of global capital. But some among them seek to accomplish this without a war, while others will accept – even prefer – a war,” Don DeBar, an American political analyst and radio host in New York, told Tasnim on Wednesday.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin might be behind a deadly attack that killed 10 tourists in İstanbul’s historic tourist hub of Sultanahmet on Tuesday, Turkey’s pro-government Star daily reported on Wednesday, claiming that the Russian president has a history of abetting terrorist organizations in the region.
Running a headline that read “The suspect is Putin,” Star claimed that Russia, in cooperation with Bashar al-Assad’s Syria and Iran, is in close cooperation with terrorist organizations.
The overall sense one gets from this briefing is that there is nothing new on Syrian front, neither quantitatively nor qualitatively. Frankly, I found this briefing quite, quite boring. Soon will be four months since the start of Russian bombing, and all one hears are some piecemeal accomplishments – and losses. Had Russia committed its ground troops there, the situation would clearly presage a disaster, but now one has to thank Putin’s prudence that it is not so.
In purely military (!) terms, then, what is Russia getting out of this mess?
First and foremost, it is the invaluable experience of its airforce in a real war, no matter of how limited a scope – together with the even more precious real live testing of a wide array of hi-tech military equipment, a proving ground of any military general’s dreams.
And second, ….. I do not believe there is any second, although I may be proven quite wrong here.
hope so, although the presentation does mention that terrorists seem to be still supplied through Turkey,
not forgetting ISIS going to Kherson…………………………..”evacuation” of Daesh by mysterious Turkish airlines to various places etc etc……..I wonder elsewhere’s too………breaking the UN resolution not support international terrorism by exporting too…………

Excellent. Thank you.
So why doesn’t RT relocate its HQ to the largest English speaking country on Earth? (India)
There should be documentaries on stories like this every other day.
Watch how Zionist infiltrators self select their asses out of RT when the assignment is in Delhi or Mumbai, instead of New York.
Are you listening Vladimir Putin? If you control these resources it’s time to put them to better use.

But some among them seek to accomplish this without a war, while others will accept – even prefer – a war,” Don DeBar, an American political analyst and radio host in New York, told Tasnim on Wednesday.

http://www.todayszaman.com/diplomacy_turkish-pro-govt-daily-accuses-putin-of-being-behind-i-stanbul-attack_409494.html
And in a related story, the Star has reported that the Moon is really made of Green Cheese.
Maicolpue
Not so sure. My sense is Daesh has already lost. No jihadists are streaming in from around the world anymore… Quite the opposite.
Sure, defensive operations require less personnel and can easily prolong the conflict but the outcome now is not in doubt.
Thanks Russia
