Such a poignant and symbolic addition to the message: the new statue honoring the hundreds of thousands of Soviet soldiers who fought near Rzhev in the Great Patriotic War. Just at the time when statues of cultural heroes of the US and UK are being torn down all over.
Further irony: a new and clearer constitution for Russia, just when the US Constitution has been completely destroyed.
The American mainstream media will criticize Putin and condemn the new Russian Constitution, but none will mention the two ironies above.
Yes, there’s plenty of irony there. If American patriots were honest with themselves, they would be looking up to Russia as a country that actually stands for their values – respect for its history and culture and families and the military and law and order, and a real constitution that can only be changed through the democratic process, etc.
Instead, the picture of Russia that Americans actually get – courtesy of both right-wing and left-wing media – is just a blank screen on which they project all sorts of imaginary caricatures of tyranny. Now that is some turnout by the armed forces – those who protect the country – made sure to vote for the first truly Russian Constitution – which mentions God.
A few things to say about the successful Referendum on changes to the Constitution.
Firstly the appalling reporting of it as “merely Putin seeking an extended term” in Anglo Empire MSM is, of course, to be expected.
Not expected, and very disappointing was, as has been mentioned, the RT site, focussing on “Putin and being in Power for ever”,
However, this was also the angle taken by a supposedly AltMed site claiming to be interested in Russia’s well being – that being The Duran. Answering a question during a live Q & A Alexander Mercouris did say that this was a bad thing, it would reflect badly on Putin etc etc, with not one word aboud the many other, necessary changes that were the point of the entire exercise. Coupling this with other utterances from that outfit, one has to wonder just whose side are they on, really.
However, two questions arise.
One is, that I do remember in the run up and first announcement of this change process, that one change would be to state that no Outside Power Rule can take precedence over Russian Law;. that Russian Law is paramount.
This, I thought, was wonderful. It was the outside power from IMF, WHO and other American and DS backed entities that Russia has had to follow which has been a thorn i nthe side of Russian development since 2000.
However since that announcement that it was “proposed in the initial documents” I’ve heard not one word since to confirm it was included in the voting papers.
Does anyone know if it is?
Secondly – during his Inauguration. President Putin swore, with hand on the Constitution, his Presidential Oath. However, if that Constitution has been suspended for another, does this make his inauguration also null and void and he must quickly make sure to re-swear on the new one?

Firstly it wasn’t a “referendum” it was a Constitutional vote – this is the Constitution/law of Russia now.

In regard to your questions:
1) Yes – there is a clause in the Constitution that the Constitution takes precedence over International legal treaties, it specifies that the Russian constitution takes primacy in cases where international treaties may be interpreted as conflicting with it.
2) I don’t think President VVP’s inauguration is null and void because he swore in on the old Constitution? Why would it be? – the new Constitution will legally superseded the old and will be signed by the President, it has already been passed by both Duma’s, the Constitutional Court and now the Russian people. He will finish his 6 year term and can stand again – if he should wish to do in 2024.

Re my use of the term “referenda” it was according to this definition: “a general vote by the electorate on a single political question which has been referred to them for a direct decision”
It is usually to ask the people for approval or rejection of a “draft” law, i.e. one not yet incorporated into law. The people vote.
Thus I really didn’t see this as any different.
But – I dont wish to “split hairs” over a sophistry. I did go look up elsewhere and saw it listed as the 2nd item, which is a delight to me. I think that, whilst all the other th ings are important, each in their own way and addressing aspects of the Russia’s need to preserve her own culture, this one is prime in it’s importance.
Also, My query about a new “swearing in” was a bit whimsical, I must admit. Still, It’s a thought. And most of all, I just love the way it’s a vote of trust in Putin. He has won so many hearts and minds – it’s a rarity, and I think goes to show, that the major error the West- upon which the sun is setting- has made, it is it’s belief that the only way to be successful is to lie, cheat, manipulate. You can indeed be honest, act with integrity with nothing but the well being of others as your goal, and be a the biggest success there is.

The reason I pushed back on the use of the word “Referendum” – was this was bigger than just a one issue or law – which Referendums usually are a vote on – this was changing a country’s Constitution. As the journalist stated himself in the link above – “One thing forgotten in almost all Western speculation about the process (erroneously labelled a ‘referendum’ by some US/UK pundits” – the word kind of diminishes how serious and important this vote was for Russia.

I checked out where this region was and was surprised the majority voted No. It is heavily Christian (and 17% Islamic); has a United Russia Governor – but digging further it seems to be the centre for Gazprom and Novatek. The Nenets Okrug did not want to merge with a neighboring region. There was something in the referendum about mandating the merger of these two regions. It’s a sparsely populated area of Siberia. Probably the most common occupation is reindeer herder.
