Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy says that Moscow has told American and Israeli officials in a recent trilateral meeting that regional stability would be out of reach if Iran’s interests are ignored.
Alexander Lavrentiev, President Putin’s envoy, has traveled to Tehran on a direct order by President Putin to hand over a report on a trilateral meeting that took place among American, Russian, and Israeli officials in the occupied city of Jerusalem al-Quds last month.
In Tehran on Tuesday, and during a meeting with Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Lavrentiev said Russian officials at the meeting had stressed Iran’s interests.
“In this summit, it was explicitly stated that, as a powerful country in the region, Iran is Russia’s friend and strategic partner, and that without regard for Iran’s role and the meeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s interests, the attainment of effective and sustainable security in the region would not be possible,” the senior Russian official said, IRNA reported.
Lavrentiev also said the American and Israeli officials present at the meeting were notified of “Russia’s clear and unequivocal position against the ineffective policy of maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic.”
US President Donald Trump has been attempting a policy of so-called maximum pressure against Iran since May 2018, when he unilaterally withdrew America from a multilateral deal with Iran.
Lavrentiev said Iran could not remain unilaterally committed to the 2015 deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and be denied its legal rights under the agreement while other countries renege on their contractual obligations.
US National Security Adviser John Bolton, a known Iran hawk, was present in the al-Quds meeting.
Tehran condemns Bolton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and some regional officials for trying to escalate tensions with Iran to the point of military conflict.
According to Lavrentiev, the attendees were also told that Moscow supported Iran’s legal presence in Syria. Tehran has been providing military advisory support to Damascus in the face of militancy and Takfiri terrorism. So has Russia.
Shamkhani, for his part, hailed the positive and developing course of the Russo-Iranian relations and cooperation, and reciprocally identified Moscow as Tehran’s “friend and strategic ally.”
He expressed gratitude for Russia’s “decisive and impartial” positions concerning the JCPOA and Iran’s presence in Syria.
The Iranian official also positively acknowledged Moscow’s objection to the intrusion into Iranian airspace of a US spy drone last month and Britain’s recent move to impound an oil tanker carrying Iranian crude.
He said the US was trying to increase tensions and insecurity in the region to enable more regional arms sales but asserted that the Islamic Republic would continue its political and defensive efforts against the development of instability in the region, “decisively protecting its [own] interests and security.”
There is no better friend (ally) than Russia. While the EU trading partners of Iran waffle and fold under US pressure, Russia stands solid.
This is diplomacy at the highest level, a dedicated envoy from Putin himself, relaying in writing and words what Patruschev told the US and Israeli counterparts in Jerusalem.
We can assume that Lavrentiev also carried secret message from Putin, perhaps suggestions on how Iran might deal with the sanctions, how Russia might assist the movement and sale of oil for Iran, etc.
And we might also believe that promises of military equipment that Russia thinks best for Iran assured when they need it.
This is Iran’s fight, but Russia will help. There is no doubt.
The blatant hypocrisy of US is open for all to see. Not only did US withdraw from the JCPOA but US is insisting that Iran still abide by the treaty, kind of the same deal as US withdrawing from the INF and then demanding Russia abide by that treaty and threatening yet more sanctions if Russia and Iran fail to do so. There must be something in the water in Foggy Bottom for supposedly career and dedicated ‘diplomats’ coming up with such ludicrous demands.
Russia may be a lot of things, but disloyal to friends and allies ain’t one of them. She will do everything she can to bring an end to the Syrian War and help Iran to weather this tempest.

“The blatant hypocrisy of US is open for all to see.”
That’s the likud/trump style of doing things. They know their supporters (ie: head bobbing zombies) will eat this govno up with extreme glee. The more disgusting the dish being served, the greater their welcoming it.
Moscow sees Iran’s interests as intertwined with its own. Destabilization or attempts at regime change will lead to escalation. Dark forces seeking to foment war should learn the lessons of history, especially over the last hundred years. The evidence is there: the omens clear.

With Russia and China solidly behind it, and their partners and allies in the background, Iran should be safe. The essential principle must be “Asia for the Asians”; Americans and others welcome to visit or trade on fair terms, but to be slaughtered if they raise their hands in violence.
I believe there will be some kind of attack before the American elections. The recklessness of both Israel and America will disregard the warnings of Russia and bombs away. Look at Syria it is getting bombed by Israel anytime they gets the urge to kill another on of it’s neighbors. It is difficult to see how dialog can be constructive when people like Bolton and his sidekick Pompeo believe they have the right to murder wound and destroy anyone and anything they desire. There is only one language they understand and only when they are sitting in courtroom in Nuremberg being judged for crimes against humanity will they realize the gravity of their own crimes. Negotiating with these people will bring nothing but a reinforcement of what they believe. They believe they are strong and everyone else is weak and afraid. It is like working at a bar. A troublemaker walks in and you just know you will have to deal with him at some point. These Americans are trouble and you have to be willing to throw them out or give them the bar. The choice is a easy one they have to go.
