Russia came to stay. Thus, two 50 year leases for AFB in Latakia and naval base in Tartus.
Russia bled Russian blood into the Syrian sands. They are not going home. They are expanding in the region, especially in the Eastern Med. They have stakes in the ground in Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Egypt as well as the waters of the Med, Red Sea and Indian Ocean. So the Black Sea Fleet from Crimea and the Southern Military District is expanding. Russia’s influence has drawn Turkey away from NATO and EU. They aren’t going to throw that strategic advantage away.
These are deep national policies. They involve trade, weapons sales, gas pipelines and oil development, agricultural sales (wheat especially), tourism and diplomatic efforts involved in Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey and Libya. Putin has opened up Russia for Saudi investment. This is long term stuff, not ephemeral.
Gather in the facts and your questions will disappear.

I am just questioning the madness that, if erupted, will the russia ppl still be willing to support their gov and Putin? As you are aware, there are already displasure at certain level of the common ppl. Same as in China.
If the madness goes nuk, if the unfortunate event is triggered in several continent in a short time-space, will Russia defend its home base first and still have spare for the ‘friend’? There is always a price and I won’t understatimate the MAD-ness of the west. Mutual Assured Destruction, if they cant play ‘THE KING’ no more.

It’s not about pro Russian nor anti Russian.
If a person can elevate it’s mind above some fuzzy feelings and equates all the available historical and current facts and unbiased observations, he/she may be perceived as pro Russia in any not so pro Russian atmosphere.
There is only one bundle of truth.
Further, It seems to me that Russian spirit doesn’t put monetary price on everything where in the west anything has a pricetag and making money is a sacred act.
If nuclear puff happens RF is much better protected in all aspects, ranging from ICBM down to highly functional and motivated civil defense. Civil defense is extra disproportional together with toughness of the citizenry.

I am curious how the current downing of us drone fits into picture. Lot is at stake, I wouldn’t exclude skirmish erupting during drone debris recovery, apparently near border waters. It is $120m toy loaded with secretive goodies.
I remember the era when the American government used to try to fool its people into thinking that “Civil Defense” was an answer to the risk of nuclear war. We used to do the Duck n Cover drills beneath our school desks, and we knew where the Civil Defense shelters were.
And we learned that is was all a myth fed to a gullible people to pretend that nuclear war didn’t mean the end of everything. Oh, we just go into the shelters for a couple of weeks, but we’ll be alright. But of course, that two weeks is just long enough to let the radiation really spread everywhere around the world, and its just the very beginning of the nuclear winter. That sun that didn’t shine while people were hiding in their shelter for a measly couple of weeks won’t be seen for a long time. Between the cold and the radiation the animals are all going to die. And there won’t be a harvest next year. Or the year after. Or the year after.
It sounds like the Russian people are being fed the same line of cow droppings, with the extra bit of “we are tougher” thrown in as icing.
A large nuclear war is not winnable. A large nuclear war is not even survivable. There may be pockets of handfuls of people who survive, but human civilization will be destroyed and the survivors will be starting over as slightly advanced cavemen and cave-women. Myths about who’s tougher will be about as relevant as the knowledge to design a semi-conductor chip.

Many apologies if I come across as ignorant – I am not trying to pick on pro or anti Russ
but the fact that the west can and has, in history, attack its own fleet and its own ppl, as FF, and blame it on the designated enemy, implies to me, that they has really gone mad, clinically and psychologically and every other metrics of measurement. I think, in the last card, when they are forced to admit they are ‘done’, they may just burn the casino down and out with a ‘blaze of glory’, whatever their chosen-ritualistic expression may be.
China has the same problem too – China can fully protect herself but the extended Asian and BRI – I am not so sure. It will require alot more ‘spreading resources and man power around’. What I meant was there is also a internal price tag – within the country to its ppl and let’s not forget, to history. Just as NAM has now forever haunted USSA and its ppl, I think Rus and Chi, too great civilisation that has much more wisdom and history (hopefully) learned, are much more careful in such ‘collateral damage’ stuff or even MAD. Both of our ppl has suffered under the “western cultural-emperor cleansing”, we know (are?) the price tag.
I am, in the opinion, and only a opinion, probably not a good one, the west cannot be saved but how will it be ‘dealt with and be done with’ is the real question. I just don’t think they will go, not without a BANG and leave the greatest catastrophe mess behind on the remaining planet. Should they leave (and not come back), they will leave a MARK, seem to be in their (un)holy-doctrine. If they cannot be remembered as the victors, who writes their version of history, they want to be unmistakable known to be, the darkest side, and there will be geological evidence for the next several thousand years of traces, that they will not be forgotten.

Level of displeasure is far worse in Western regimes. Look at the US – more than 50% of the country hate Trump and want him in prison. Look at the UK, where Brexit has cut the country in two and the fighting is bitter. Look at France with the yellow vests etc.
By comparison, Russia looks far more stable and Putin has far more support.
I would like to see Russia sell S-400s to Cuba! Wouldn’t it be great to have Central & Southern Commands in Florida covered by S-400s? Throw in some Kalibr missiles as well!

They will however gladly buy Iranian oil or other exports at discounted prices and perhaps sell some weapons systems to them (covertly?).
They will also gladly watch as the United States

In my opinion nuclear war started a while ago with use of depleted uranium in former Jugoslavia and continues to this day. There are underreported events of thermonuclear ordinance in use, for instance in Yemen or previously in Iraq.
