Dear friends,
Hurricane Irma looks very, very powerful and the resulting hysteria in Florida is outright toxic (there are fistfights at gas stations). A friend offered to host us in Virgina and we have decided to accept that invitation. So we are going to hit the road at 0500 tomorrow. I will try my best to remain in contact and maybe even post a little something once I get to southern Virginia, but no promises. Frankly, I am already exhausted even before hitting the road.
You are all wonderful friends and I want to thank you all for your kindness and concern. God willing, we will be perfectly fine. My biggest fear is for our house, a rather weak structure in a flood zone, but it survived 5 hurricanes in the past and it will probably survive this one too. I just pray for a weak storm surge…
I will try to keep you posted, possibly in the Café.
Herb and Scott will keep the blog up in my absence.
Hugs and cheers to all, see y’all later :-)
The Saker
God be with you and yours and may the Lord have mercy on us and all those in the path of the storm.
May God Keep you safe and secure ! Amin !
Hurricane Category 5 is a very good reason not to be there (unless you have access to a proper shelter). I wish you good luck! Stay safe!

Not something to mess with.
May God, the Theotokos and all the saints be with you. You could go and visit one of the monasteries on the other side of the mountains.
God bless you and keep you and your family safe during this time.
Good luck Saker. Stay safe.
Good luck to you, Saker. When all this has passed I would not shy away to tell us what the approximately costs from Irma were for you and your neighbours and friends.
National emergency fundraisers don’t shy away from mentioning huge costs for these types of hurricanes. And although the costs are probably right, I don’t trust these agencies for handling lots of money or my money.
But it would be great if I could help a friend or a friend of a friend by sending a bit of money when it is really needed.
Удачи и здоровья Вам и Вашей семье!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Translation: Good luck and health to you and your family !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May God keep you and yours safe and secure . Best regards
God be with you and your family, Saker. We all hope to hear from you again soon.
Hope you find your way North without too much hassle. The highways are sure to be jammed to the hilt.
We are staying put in St. Petersburg, fortunately the storm seems to be tracking towards the Atlantic….
Good news that y’all are getting out of Dodge. This storm isn’t one to be trifled with.
Wishing you a safe trip and a pleasant visit. Praying for everyone in Irma’s path.
Good luck and don´t get stuck here

Dear the Saker,
Sorry you are having to evacuate – please take care and God bless you and your family.
Hugs,
Veritas
This Irma is devastating carribean islands one after the other – very very sad. They are evacuating all the costal places in Georgia and up to South Carolina…..hope all is ok Saker as you go to Virginia.
Also Storm Jose is expected to gain in strength and intensify into a major hurricane by Friday, the US National Hurricane Center said…..one after the other.
Good luck.
But my VA penmate says Virginia is also in the hurricane hit track….
So, take care.
Best of luck!
check out the shenandoah valley—very beautiful and historical place if you are anywhere near it in VA. May all be well with your property left behind.
С Богом! Будьте осторожны!
I’ll put forward my prayers for your and your family’s safety and minimal damage to your house! I’m glad you are able to get out of there and have a good place to go.
Geoengineering is the artificial modification of Earths climate systems. A conspiracy theory, or real? Here is one of several YT videos claiming the former: “Hurricane Irma: Obvious Manmade Origin” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tPOysgE_lA
Wise idea to bail, saker, even with the traffic.
Best of luck to you and your family on your trip.

May God be at your side and protect you and your loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
That seems like a smart move to hit the road.
Prayers for the safety of you and your family.
Vaya con Dios, mi amigo!!—go with God– we will pray Psalm 91 with you, and for ourselves as well, because we are all in this together.
Good luck, God bless you and your family.
Horrible stress.
Take care.
Did you make it out? I saw pictures of the highways north today – looked ugly! Take care!
Stay safe! And if the prayers of an agnostic help, you’ve got them.
I used to live in the southeast. There are some hurricanes you try to ride out. And then there are some that make you say ‘run!”. This one looks like a killer monster, so if there is even one slightest doubt about whether a house is built as a storm shelter, then this one says “RUN!”.
I remember the one that hit Charleston 30 years ago. I watched it from a 1000 ft above sea level from Atlanta. Even from there, watching the banks of storm clouds build and build and keep coming and coming earned my respect. Then, as a lad just out of college, I volunteered to help take some supplies to friends in Charleston. What I saw there made me shudder.
This storm looks like a killer, so, I’d recommend the advice of the old general who said “I’m not retreating, I’m advancing in the opposite direction!” Please stay safe as you advance to Robert E Lee’s state. :) With this storm, even there it looks like you’ll get plenty wet.
Que le voyage, l’exil et les forces indomptables de la Nature soient favorables ainsi qu’à vos proches.
Mes prières vous suivent.
Bon courage à vous,
K…
