Today I want to share an exceptionally beautiful rendition of Piero Piccioni‘s superb composition “The Light at the Edge of the World” by John McLaughlin and his band, the 4th dimension (Etienne Mbappe – bass; Jany McPherson – piano; Gary Husband – other keyboards and 2nd drums; Nicola Viccaro – 1st drums). John McLaughlin is one of the two guitarists which most influenced my own guitar playing (the other one being Philip Catherine) and it is a real joy for me to see him still producing music of tremendous originality and emotional creativity. I hope that you will enjoy this track as much as I did!

Yes, absolutely!
I’m also a professional musician. Music is not juggling. I am now returning to this site. I studied classical European classical music, worked with Rock, Pop, Jazz and folk music. This guitarist is not my favorite musician, but I appreciate an aesthetic choice that john mclaughlin made: he was one of the few musicians who went to India and brought polyrhythm and polymetry to the west. I’m talking about polyrhythm, and I mean polymetry as well. I worked with the Brazilian drummer Hermeto Pascoal, and I discovered that this facet of rhythm was a new frontier explored by musicians and that needs to be explored further. English is not my main language. I like Saker, he has a unique talent, and I don’t know why, he is passionate about the truth, the good and seeks to understand music. He is making a difference on planet earth right now. This site is one of the wellsprings of humanity. Everyone should explore and enjoy. May humanity overcome the current nuclear impasse, with God’s mercy, because we could still build many things for the glory of God!

I totally understand those who do not like John McLaughlin or his musical style.
My favorite guitarist and composer remains Philip Catherine which, in my opinion, it the top of the top, followed closely, by Pat Metheny.
But I want to share this with you: John McLaughlin is a real gentleman, a 100% sincere person and a very kind and humble person when you meet him. There are some brilliant guitarist out there who are real jerks, I think of one especially whose improvisation style I deeply admire, but whose personality offends me. Those who know know whom I am referring to.
I think that John McLaughlin’s moral qualities define his best music (I think of his superb “Lotus Feet” here) and I just wanted to mention that here.

Is the US really weak, or is it pretending to be weak to goad Russia, China and Iran into war?
Many here saw the Pelosi visit to Taiwan for what it was: the US attempting to provoke China into attacking Taiwan.
Last week the Israelis conducted airstrikes against Gaza which killed dozens of Palestinians including numerous children. They said they were targeting Islamic Jihad militant commanders. Why? Because the Islamic Jihad leader was in Tehran at the time meeting with the IRGC top brass. What is Israel hoping to accomplish with its antics? The Israelis have repeatedly violated the al-Aqsa mosque since Nasrallah put forward his regional equation of “violation of al-Aqsa = war”. Does it get any more clear cut than that? The Israelis are openly trying to provoke the Resistance into a regional war.
Taiwan will be part of China again. The Taiwanese are Chinese. If China attacks Taiwan, it will be destroying its own land and killing its own people. Wise move not attacking because of something as stupid as a visit by a miserable old hag.
By the same token, Ukraine is Russia. Kiev is the ancient capital of the Rus. And the Ukranians are Slavic brothers of the Russians. Who benefits from Russians bombing Ukraine and killing Ukrainians? MEXICAN STANDOFF, POSITIONAL WAR, OR SPECIAL MILITARY OPERATION, PHASE 2?

The dictionary definition of “Mexican Standoff,” is that of a deadlock, a stalemate, “a confrontation between two or more sides that no one can win.”
The definition of “Positional War” is “a form of warfare conducted along permanent and fortified front lines.”
Special Military Operation, as defined by invaluable Andrei Martyanov, is a “combined arms police operation.”
Why start with these definitions?
Throughout the comments posted on this blog in different threads, it is clear many posters lack comprehension of the meaning of the SMO within the context of the Russian/Ukraine confrontation, which leads them to confusions in their evaluation of the current conditions of the same. Some posters believe that “nothing really important is going on” at the frontline, hence there is no need to have a SitRep regularly.
Other posters are calling for an annihilation by “calibration” of the Kiev gang, Zelensky, Arestovich, the Verkhona Rada, and many other decision-making centers in 404. The ”nothing is going on at the front” crowd has several branches, some believe the SMO has reached a stalemate, a “Mexican Standoff” with no clear winner, which mean the parties will have to negotiate a way out, while others suggest we are stuck in a war of positions, WWI style, à la trench warfare.
Few have bothered to read, listen, and study, Andrei Martyanov wealth of conceptual insights into the SMO.
As per Martyanov’s definition, SMO in the context of Ukraine is a “combined arms police operation.” It is not a war since Russia never issued a declaration of war on Ukraine. “Combined arms” is a form of warfare for modern armies, a symbiotic amalgamation and coordination between different military units and formations.
A “combined arms” operation is a military operation per se, and by definition should not have anything to do with a police operation, however, Martyanov’s genius is to encapsulate the aim of Russia’s SMO by merging the two terms, “military-police,” into one, since the main goal of this operation is to “denazify and disarm” a criminal force.
In summary, this a “combined arms” military force, performing a police operation.
In general, at least here in the US, whenever the police performs an operation, let us say a call on domestic violence, or the arrest of a drug gang or criminal elements, it is not SOP to destroy the house they are called to. Even when facing armed gangs, the police does not bring a tank and blows away a building. Police might have done it, no doubt, as an exception, not a rule. They have tactical operational groups that specialize in this type of confrontation, SWAT teams, Counter Sniper units, Special Operation Groups, and myriad other special groups.
Same way, the RF Armed Forces, and their allies, LPR/DPR national militias, Chechens, Cossacks, Ossetians, and many other Russian nationalities sending their volunteers, are not in Ukraine, within the goals stated for the SMO, to “destroy it in order to save it.” Recently, there has been an escalation across the board in military actions, proportionate to the needs of the SMO, and in response to the aggressive Ukrainian actions in the battlefield.
That is different than “calibrating” Zelensky and his mafia, however much we would like these nazis to join Bandera.
Embedded in the spirit of the SMO, is what the Saker pointed out back in February: this a family quarrel, Ukrainians are not aliens to Russia, they are Slavic brothers gone astray, share a common history, Russia is not there to destroy Ukraine, but to police them back to regain their humanity. Personally, I would not hesitate to do the same to a brother of mine gone nazi. “Sorry brother, but either you change or I would have to kill you.”
On another note, the SMO has not stopped its progress along the line of contact.

The decimation of the nazi forces in Kharkiv has been relentless. The “Kraken” battalion ceased to exist as a fighting unit, and mercenaries have been eliminated wholesale. All those territories have been reconquered, and the nazi resistance is being pounded into submission.

The key town to this line is Soledar, and the UkroWerhmacht has not spared any effort in fortifying it, keeping it resupplied with reinforcements as the Allied forces march forward decimating them. The main force in the Soledar/Artemivsk area is the Wagner Ensemble, which together with DPR militia, have been fighting their way from Svitlodarsk/Uglegorsk TPP, taking town after town to the outskirts of Artemivsk.
The UkroWerhmacht knows once Soledar falls, their back is broken, and the Artemivsk/Soledar/Seversk line, which is holding forces from converging on Slavyansk/Kramatorsk, is gone. These last two towns are key for the support of the Avdiivka/Krasnohorivka fortified zone. Ukronazis are defending their last positions in a triangle of sorts, from Slavyansk/Kramatorsk, another fortified area, to Avdiivka/Krashonorivka, to Artemivsk/Soledar.
Soledar is bound to fall in a week or two, Artemivsk and Seversk will follow.

Lavrov approaches the SMO from the political-diplomatic perspective, that is his realm.

There is no contradiction between one and the other, one or the other dimension can be highlighted as needed.
