Iraqis have rallied in Baghdad in massive numbers to call for an end to US military presence in the country following high-profile assassinations and airstrikes targeting anti-terror forces.
Sayed Sadiq al-Hashemi, the director of the Iraqi Center for Studies, said more than 2.5 million took part in the demonstrations on Friday.
Since the early hours on Friday, huge crowds of men, women and children of all ages converged on the Jadriyah neighborhood near Baghdad University.
The protesters were seen carrying banners and chanting slogans calling for the expulsion of US forces.
“Get out, get out, occupier!” some shouted, while others chanted, “Yes to sovereignty!”
The massive rally came after influential cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on Iraqis to stage “a million-strong, peaceful, unified demonstration to condemn the American presence and its violations”.
Sadr issued a statement on Friday calling for US bases to be shut down and Iraqi airspace closed to US warplanes and surveillance aircraft.

He warned that US presence in the country will be dealt with as an occupying force if Washington does not agree with Iraqi demands to withdraw for the country.
In a message delivered through a representative at Friday prayer in the holy city of Karbala, top cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani also urged Iraqi political groups to do what is needed to the safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
He called on Iraqi groups to stand united, far from any foreign influence in countering the dangers which threaten the country.
On Thursday ahead of the planned rallies, Sadr called on Iraqis to mobilize and defend the country’s independence and sovereignty.
“Oh women, men and youth of the country, the time is now upon us to defend the country, its sovereignty and dependence,” Sadr said in a tweet.
“Spread the word of an independent future Iraq that will be ruled by the righteous; an Iraq which will not know of corruption nor aggression” he added, calling on Iraqis to expel the “tyrants”.
Various Iraqi resistance groups affiliated with the country’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have also backed the anti-American rally. 
While no official number has been released, the march itself is likely one of the largest in the history of Iraq.

More ‘concussions’ are confirmed by the US
The Pentagon has said that dozens of US troops were wounded in an Iranian retaliatory missile attack earlier this month despite Washington’s initial claim denying casualties.
The Pentagon said on Friday 34 service members have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury following the Iran strike on January 8. They suffered concussions.
“Thirty-four total members have been diagnosed with concussions and TBI (traumatic brain injury),” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman told reporters a press conference at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
Hoffman said that the eight injured troops who had been previously transported to Germany had been moved to the United States, but nine of them still remain there.
“They will continue to receive treatment in the United States, either at Walter Reed (a military hospital near Washington) or at their home bases,” he said.
The nine other victims “are still undergoing evaluation and treatment there (in Germany),” he added.

So who is going to shut down the airspace and by what agencies will the roads surrounding the foreign bases be blocked?
The whole world has mass demonstrations in many countries some of which continue for months but accomplish nothing?
The airport airspace can be severely limited with MANPADS.
The roads around the bases? IEDs, perfected in Iraqi if you recall.
Add the use of snipers, and the bases become a closet they are locked in.
But what is most likely is missiles. Works for the Houthis and it worked for Iran. Missiles are working to penetrate Israeli airspace.
And then there are the ubiquitous drones carrying munitions. The US has threatened China’s oil supply from Iraq and Iran. China makes the most diverse and inexpensive drones. I expect we will see thousands of them used to teach the Americans the hard lesson that they are hated by nearly all Iraqis.
The US is not only a slow learner, hard-headed, but delusional, and short of memory. Iraq is going to turn itself into a charnel house for Americans.
Also these drones 10-kg lift are cheap, if you get a kit, you talking about $200 for the kit for 850mm drone, and battery’s about $20, just carrying a payload of thermite, 10kg would destroy any steel building or tank, just land & ignite, it wouldn’t even take an explosion, just a small igniter to start the thermite.
A kit can be assembled by a savvy high school kid in 1/2 day, the software is self-training, just let it run in an open space 10 minutes and it will self-configure and thereafter run like a champ.
There is even free-software where the drone(s) can run in swarms all in the same mission, or configured like a matrix of separation say 10Meter’s, that way should a few get shot-down along the way, some if not most would still make the target, given a swarm if an early drone hit-target, it could report back to the swarm, which could reconfigure to a 2nd target, and a 3rd, …

Thermite burns when lit. Lighting it needs high current.
It’s hard to light homemade thermite, the particle size tends to be too large. And it’s hard to make it stay in one place long enough to do much damage — on top of a car, it tends to run off after merely scorching a small area. This I know from watching YouTubers try to make and use it.
But it’s worth noting, a lithium battery is essentially an incendiary device all by itself. Merely drawing too much current is enough to start a fire. Cheap Chinese drones could play a role. . some imagination required.
Its typically built with mixing a fuse like magnesium (that burns first) and a binder to solve the runaway problem. That’s the easy part. Lithium is unstable but battery is not. It’s almost impossible to lightup a well built one. How does one draw that much current? into a capacitor?
It’s all impractical anyways… It needs to generate a small explosion to light the fuse. that’s easily doable but needs control.
The battery in your laptop or cellphone has safeguards built in, to prevent too much current flowing. I have actually taken apart such batteries (by the way, it is still dangerous to drill or cut into them with a metal tool).
But the cheap Chinese drones use simple batteries, and the drone motors need a lot of juice, so they leave off the safeguards. Short one out and it will catch fire. The batteries are usually small, but of course if you are building your own, you can use whatever. The Chinese companies also sell parts, motors, blades, frames, controllers, batteries, and software is available for download.
Your suggestion of drones being used, and that they could be programmed to attack in packs reminds me of a futuristic video describing that very thing. Called “Slaughterbots”. A rather chilling look at where this tech. could potentially mature into; incorporating facial recognition to discriminate it’s target. God help us all if it comes to pass.

I have seen another video, from someone in a lab/test environment with access to samples of high explosives.
The author of the video was trying to answer the question, “is 3 grams enough?” He made little charges with an indentation in one side to direct the blast. Then he aimed them at some ballistic gel models in hard shells, for a realistic simulation of the slaughterbots’ mission.
Conclusion: yes, 3 grams is more than enough.

Yes – but shipped in how? They must need a lot of supplies, which can arrive either by ship and then land, or by air.
The land routes could easily be made prohibitively expensive with enough IEDs, snipers, etc.

I’m a senior citizen living in a rural area in the mid-west state of Missouri, in the U.S., 18 miles from any of three small towns. Two of those towns have a very large grocery store/bakery and also an extremely large Wal-Mart big box store/grocery/bakery. The third town has one medium sized grocery/bakery. All three towns have a tiny “farmers market” in a parking lot one morning each week of the gardening season with maybe only six local gardeners participating and very few interested customers. Most of the agriculture here is raising cattle and chickens and corn for ethanol (fuel). Very few people here grow gardens. Shopping is so much easier. Most everyone, even farmers shop for their food rather than grow gardens. I’ve read that most of the food in the United States is transported about 1700 miles to market. All of the fresh produce in Wal-Mart comes from California, Florida, or South America. American’s are largely dependent on “JIT” (just in time) delivery trucks. If JIT delivery failed, it is estimated that food would be unavailable in stores within three days. Here in the mid-west, the percentage of obesity is very high. Junk food is a legal addiction much cheaper than other recreational drugs.
Seeing a protest this size just helps to pound in the message of what a huge strategic victory Iran just won. It’s an old principle of military scheming, going back at least to Sun Tzu, that to fracture the enemy’s alliances is better than a direct attack. And after what has happened in the Middle East over the past two weeks, America has very few allies left.
If the US were in fact quietly drawing down troop numbers from its Iraqi bases, yet claiming not to, what would be the tell-tale signs? I’m reminded of the sneaky withdrawal by Australians and New Zealanders from Gallipoli in WWI, the only successful aspect of Churchill’s debacle.

The true casualties of the Iranian ballistic missile attack is beginning to surface. The US Military has had to hide them from Trump, not the public. Trump will support the Military only as long as they ‘win’.

Harsh as it would be for the victims, this is definitely one of those situations in which, every time the Americans kill a leader, he is replaced by someone tougher, stronger and more hostile.
Although I rather doubt how many Iraqi politicians are as keen for martyrdom as General Soleimani was.
So, they’ve asked nicely, and put on a huge march, now how do they get the occupiers out? Because the stakes here are very, very high for the US. The dollar hegemony can’t afford yet another beat down.
You could go “a la IsIs” and tunnel under their base, pack with explosives, then blow the damn thing!!

Perhaps removing the U.S. military base in Al-Tanf, Syria might be collaborative effort between the SAA and the Iraqi Army. This would send a message to the U.S. hegemony the Arabs are serious about both their sovereignties.
The embassy in Iraq is 104 acres, Al-Tanf is much smaller and only military personnel are there, not diplomats that could be injured during skirmishes at the embassy. The 55 kilometer “deconfliction zone” at Al-Tanf would have to be breached but the U.S. will be kept busy responding to the Iraqi ground forces crossing into Syria while the SAA flanks the base on their side.
If the Iraqi and Syrian Arabs work together, they can expel the U.S. military from Al-Tanf, which is more manageable than first taking on the embassy, in my layperson’s opinion.
A few of those heavy ballistic missiles from Iran, transferred to Iraqi PMU would be payback for their dead leader, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and would devastate the al Tanf base.
Breeching the base otherwise has always failed. The US can easily apply cross-border drone and missile strikes and mop up with gunship helos and AC-130 gunships. It’s happened several times to Syrian and Iranian militias.
Best to use the ballistic missiles.
Yes…not much cover in that area and any ground force would be vulnerable from air attack. Now, if the SAA and or the PMU unit’s acquire SAM’s or even manpads, could make flying over them a risky affair. They would have to be positioned in depth, as they also will be vulnerable to air retaliation. Booting them out of Al Tanf is absolutely necessary as it allows ISIS and it’s affiliates to freely travel between Syria and Iraq unengaged.
My guess, the US will unleash IS again in Iraq to have an excuse to remain there and at the same time bomb “by misstake” iraqui forces. Iraqi government should invite Russia (like Assad) did should this happen.
How do the American supply their bases–by air, land?
Cut off their supply lines and see how well the Americans fare.
Given that some of the bases are quite elaborate and require significant amounts of resources to maintain, I’d say that are some juicy targets that are begging to be hit.

If it isn’t nature, life itself we have to pay for further misery at the hands of our government. Forced vaccinations? I don’t do flu Vax myself. When I was younger I had asthma, would get what I suspect was the flu or a bad cold and would become pneumonia. I’ve since grown out of the asthma. I worry for my parents my dad was deliberating on going through with back surgery but he wants to wait til later in the year. I feel better that he won’t have to be in the hospital at this time.
I don’t have any insurance, unemployed been looking for work since last month. I was sick last month, no cough just head cold but mostly feeling miserable, fatigued, fever. I sweat it out over a couple nights. Luckily it was just after leaving my last job (where 500 people move through every day and night).
Praying that we triumph over this. One person reassured me in a comment that in California you’ll have the nitwit, self entitled (Tesla fan Boys?) who will proudly disobey the quarantine, to show them! As they don’t feel they need to submit to authoritatians (themselves needing such a system to push through their agenda, get people to do stuff vs their wishes, hypocrisy) or other inane, reckless argument.
Going to stock up on some canned foods, soups, dried foods and water, tea, coffee. Doesn’t hurt. Be careful out there! Wear gloves in stores or to pump gas as well, or carry extra tissues. We can beat this thing! I don’t normally feed into the fear pr0n and the like. I have to admit bugs, germ warfare scares the living crap out of me.
Some are saying the PTB can conveniently use this crisis to initiate a controlled collapse, since the financial system has been on life support, buckling at the seams. The pressure, chaos, entropy building in the system. Another said they need to be careful they don’t tip the cart, somehow a pandemic is unleashed and people lose their stool, this is when revolutions are hatched and there’s no guarantee the present ruling cabal will be able to maintain control and may lose it altogether, if not also their heads! Possible can happen in China? Could this bring down their ruling class? So many questions. Just was sharing a few anecdotes I picked up earlier, got me on edge, I’ll be honest.
Rockets Strike US Embassy in Baghdad

Funny how those Iranian ballistic missiles seem to have been programmed to ONLY provoke head injuries in the Amerikans standing on ground zero. This may confirm what has been suggested, that the Iranians intentionally targeted spots (or even body body parts) where their rockets would do the least damage, by hitting the least valuable targets.
