Syrian Army Kicks Off Large-Scale Security Operation Against ISIS In Homs Desert
Fierce clashes between the Syrian Army and ISIS terrorists erupted near the villages of al-Sukhnah and Wadi al-Waer in the province of Homs on April 9 evening.
According to pro-government sources, the army and local militias backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces kicked off a wide-scale security operation to crack down on the terrorists hiding in the desert area. Its goal is to put an end to the recently observed increase of actions of the terrorist group against pro-government forces on the western bank of the Euphrates.
Supporters of the so-called ‘moderate Syrian opposition’ immediately claimed that government forces suffered heavy casualties in this operation. They insist that over 20 soldiers were killed. Pro-government sources claim that up to 30 ISIS members were neutralized.
In the coming days, Syrian troops will likely continue developing their anti-ISIS operation along the Sukhna-Deir Ezzor road and in the southern countryside of Mayadeen. ISIS cells infiltrating the government-controlled area from the eastern bank of the Euphrates in eastern Syria and the border area in western Iraq have become a serious security threat recently.
Meanwhile, ISIS announced that it had conducted 29 attacks on government forces across Iraq during the past week. The terrorist group claims that 66 government fighters were killed or injured. These claims remain unconfirmed. After the collapse of ISIS’ self-proclaimed Caliphate in the Middle East, ISIS-affiliated media outlets become used to spreading fake news and dramatically overestimating supposed ‘successes’ of the terrorist group.
The Turkish Army established a new observation post near the village of Jannet Elqora in Syria’s southwestern Idlib. This village is located in a close proximity to the M4 highway, which links the port city of Lattakia with the country’s industrial hub, Aleppo city. Last week, the Turkish military established three similar posts in the towns of Baksariya, al-Z’ainiyah and Furaykah in southwest Idlib.
According to open data, the Turkish military currently has up to 60 ‘observation posts’ across the region of Greater Idlib. Ankara claims that all these positions were established and heavy military equipment were deployed to them in order to put an end to the terrorist threat in the region and observe the ceasefire. However, so far, the only real goal achieve by Turkey has been the increase of security for al-Qaeda terrorists operating in the region.
The US State Department welcomed a new OPCW report accusing the Syrian military of using chemical weapons. According to the new accusations, Syria conducted 3 chemical attacks in the province of Hama in March 2017. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also accused Iran and Russia of conducting a ‘disinformation campaign’ in order to ‘hide’ the usage of chemical weapons by Syrian forces.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said the OPCW report “is misleading and contains falsified and fabricated conclusions”, while Russia’s permanent mission to the watchdog described the document as “not trustworthy.”
Since the very start of the conflict, the chemical weapon issue has been deeply polarized and the OPCW’s conclusions on the topic have repeatedly faced a strong criticism from independent experts. Furthermore, recent leaks from the OPCW investigation on the Douma incident demonstrated that the organization is intentionally hiding facts, doctoring investigation results and drawing preplanned conclusions in order to push forward the mainstream agenda designed to demonize the Assad government.
Poor , hapless president Trump. The man has reneged on his four major campaign promises about getting out of the Middle East { where the USA does not belong } ; indicting and arresting the Clintons { Their Foundation’s misdeeds are evident }, Building border wall , and becoming friends with a large Christian Country named Russia. His misadventures in Syria are evidently foolish. He now surrounds himself with ” Experts with an Agenda ” regarding the newly labeled Virus which has visited minimal deaths in comparison to the regular Flu strains that have killed seven times more citizens than the so called Wuhan Flu. The persistent Dr Fauci along with Bill Gates and George Soros..including the Central Bankers are whispering advice in Trump’s ear that { if followed } will wreak havoc on our Nation. Listen to “other” experts Donald
to frank reps:
Why do you think that President Trump has become friend with Russia ? You are totally wrong.
And moreover, the accumulated wrong doings by USA are since a very long time. If President Trump doesn’t do what the bankers, secret services as well as the military complex and Israel is “ordering” he would be latest on the next day dead.
Do you remember JFK ? Do you know that he wanted to change ? Do you know the case with the Fed ?
Just remember.
Moreover, as long as the US populace is silent and even maybe happy with the “indispensable nation” and doesn’t interfere in those far too many wars USA created und murdered people as long nothing will change.
Seems to me as a non-US-citizen that the majority of US populace doesn’t care how many countries were invaded, how many people died and how much damage has been done to the surroundings in different countries.
It is far too simple to put everything what is wrong with USA onto the president. US presidents are just some sort of puppets.
The US giving cover and supply in the East and Southeast of Syria, and the Turks giving cover and supply in the North and Northwest of Syria, have created the dilemma for Syrian forces. They can’t win either of the areas without full commitment and a long war. They need tens of thousands more troops, tanks and drones to deal with either sector.
The US has created what Israel wanted, a split Syria de facto.
I was not following totally but did the Russians/Syrians have an opportunity to finish the war ealier but going quickly all the way!
it seems that Russians are in charge in their Syrain project and are always ready to talk, delay and compromise with the Americans, giving them time to learn and change and turn the war around.
is that how this came about?
it seemed for a while the Syrians/Russia had won the drivers seat..now its gone?
is Putin and his advisers as capable as we give them credit for?
Finish the war? Driver’s seat?
The Syrian war is never going to end if the US remains in Iraq.
The Driver of the War will always be the US/Israel.
Russia and Syria can defeat, liquidate ISIS, AQ and push Turkey back behind its own border. But not if the US remains as an actor in the conflict. It arms, trains, aids, transports, and supports with artillery and air power all the terrorists (ISIS, AQ, SDF and rebels against Assad’s government).
Russia will not confront directly the Turks. Russia will not directly confront the Americans. Russian will not directly confront the Israelis. However, Syria military and Iranian militias will attempt to battle any forces within its borders and has an absolute right to fight for its sovereignty.
The war will go on because Israel wants it to continue. So, the US interferes.
What alters these two wars, Syria and Iraq, is missiles. Iranian missiles are shaping the Iraq order of battle, as the US and NATO see that Iran can hit their bases and Iraqi PMUs (Shiite militias, part of the Iraqi military) can hit their bases with rockets. Ultimately, staying in Iraq will become untenable for the US. When they finally leave, taking NATO with them, then Syria will be cleared of all anti-Assad enemies.
We have seen how these missiles in the hands of the Houthis in Yemen have changed that war, in spite of US assistance and special forces on the ground in support of Saudi Arabia.
Missiles are the deciding, influencing weapon of resistance.
The US has moved several batteries of Patriot Missile Defenses into Iraq, but this won’t save them. It only prolongs the inevitable.
Syria has become an American Long War. If the US sped it up, to win it, which they could, it would ignite the Iran-Israeli war that would decimate both Iran and Israel, and lead to the end of US bases in the ME after the carnage ended. Israel would suffer enormous losses of Haifa and Tel Aviv. So, the option for Long War is the only option the US can choose.
Russia is in Syria forever (50 year leases on their naval base in Tartus and the AF base in Latakia). They will provide the air power and Intel and general battle planning for the Syrians. In the coming years, they will be the victors.
This is real geopolitics. It’s not like a movie where the good guys win and the bad guys are vanquished. It’s the factor that the US has enormous resources in the region, billions of dollars to expend each month, and the stranglehold of the Israelis over US policy and politics which leaves them no choice but to extend the war they dare not win.
Ironic that winning would cost them their position, but that’s the reality. The ultimate goal of the policy in the ME is to preserve Israel. Thus, a larger war by the Americans ignites a war that costs Israel gravely. And probably costs American lives by the hundreds. Many of its regional bases are easily hit by Iranian missiles.
The Americans are caught on the horns of Iraq and Syria. Trump has not figured out how to extricate the US from being gored and bleeding out on the sands of both nations.
The Russians are always ready to talk to its adversaries. Talk saves lives. Talk saves money.
It is a sign of strength that they are always ready to talk.
Americans and some Westerners interpret that attribute as a weakness in the Russians.
That’s why they cannot defeat the Russians. They don’t know strength from weakness.
There are two other dynamics going on in Syria. The Erdogan desire to own a huge wedge of Syrian turf along the border, to fill with Syrian refugees as a buffer against the Kurds, is a real geopolitical challenge, as well as military problem.
The other problem to deal with is Iran’s desire to use Syria as a base of operations against Israel. This creates a geopolitical challenge for Russia and Assad. Iran’s militias and Hezbollah are crucial to fight the war. But Iran’s goals conflict with Russia’s and even hamstring Assad’s flexibility and autonomy.
Syria is complex. But in the long run, Russia and Assad and China will decide the fate of the Syrian nation and reconstruction.
This may be the start of something big.
From Al Masdar News (AMN) quoting Yoruk Isik:
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 A.M.) – The Russian Federation sent another large batch of tanks and armored personnel carriers (APC) to the Syrian Arab Republic, as they increase their support to the Syrian Armed Forces.
Two large battle zones to cover. More heavy equipment is needed. Operating in the vast desert of the East and Southeast means maneuvering the troops swiftly.
In Idlib, there have been losses inflicted by pro-Turk ground forces and Turk drones.
This is another year of war. Thus the Syrian Express from Russia down the Black Sea is ongoing.
