Saker, do you have any thoughts on Thierry Meyssan’s theory on voltairenet.org, that accusing Assad of a chemical attack may be to test the response of Russia and Iran and that the real intervention is more likely to come from Saudi Arabia some time in the near future?

Well, Meyssan is often well informed and he seem to have some good access. He is also right in saying that the Saudis are a key actor in all this (which Escobar, another very well informed guy also says). But in terms of intervention, if what he means is that Saudi military attacking Syria then that is nonsense. The Saudi military and its National Guard are a joke. Their main function is to terrorize and repress the Shia, not to fight real battles. I would say that these guys are even worse than the Israelis. And don’t be deceived by all the money and fancy hardware the Saudis have been getting from the USA: this is all about money, *$$$$*, and contracts, and kick-backs, etc. – not about warfighting. This is why the Saudis live in terror of the Iranians: they know that unless Uncle Shmuel is here to protect their sorry asses the Iranians would make minced meat out of them, as would the Syrians, by the way. The most the Saudis could do is airstrikes under the kind protection of the US, but most definitely not “put boots on the ground” and rescue the insurgency. And even then they would need to keep a constant eye looking over their shoulder at what the Iranians might do to them.
No, the real power of the Saudis is in their money, their tight connection to the USA, and their utter lack of decency, morals or principles. That’s about it.

Indeed – great analysis, especially this quoted part – couldn’t agree more. Bound to come back and bite them in the arse though (if you ask me)…
Great to agree with you Saker, I hope I’ll never have to offer not to comment on your blog again (especially since we’re Orthodox Brothers)… :)
And thanks for the reply on the previous post vis-a-vis ‘Monsieur Hollande et Le français'(what an utter wanker he’s proving to be!). I also share your love for France/The French I must admit.
THIS IS WHAT I THOUGHT OF WHEN I COMMENTED PREVIOUSLY. Music to my ears. THIS is how I expected Putin to react! What a great man. What a great man indeed. I now stand corrected – Putin DID infact have a plan! Great news. Truly great news. I can only imagine the ‘ace(s) up his sleeve’ still to be used.
@Anonymous Lurker:I think the G20 comment sounds like he’s trying to provide an opportunity for a face-saving climb-down/deescalation
Yes, and let’s pray that this drooling idiot Obama finally “get’s it” and uses the G20 to save face; but I am not holding my breath here, alas…

As Saint Agustin of Hippo once wrote: in necessariis unitatem, in non-necesariis libertatem, in utriusque charitatem: which I would freely translate as “in the essential unity, in the debatable freedom, and love in all”. What you and I have in common is our faith, about which there can be no “disagreements” at all. As for everything else, we have our God-given freedom of conscience which means that we can disagree in not only some, or many, things, but in literally *all* thigns, even vehemently as long as we keep sincere love in our hearts, minds, words and actions.
I did mention that I never *ever* have censored a post here because of its contents unless its spam or an insult to a third party. That is true. However, I reserve the right to strongly disagree and I will say so. On occasions, I have torn rather brutally into a poster whose comment really pissed me off. I am *far* from being a passionless zen-like Buddha and I do get pissed. I have even been known to post a real rant or two when something truly disgusting happens. So that is the deal with this blog – nobody will ever be censored on grounds of crimethink, but everybody should expect to be held accountable for what they post here or even be challenged, sometimes very bluntly.
One last thing: I actually do have a life. Which means that it sometimes can take me several hours before I get to check the comments and moderate them. In 5 years since began this blog I don’t think anybody had to wait more than 24 hours. Oh, and Blogger sometimes have bugs. Please be aware of all that.
@Anonymous3:He seems to believe that ‘someone’ staged something to force Obama’s hand. I’m guessing he knows it was Saudi Arabia, specifically Bandar Bush who orchestrated the recent mess, perhaps with Israel in some way. Thoughts?
Exactly my guess also: Saudi money & Israeli Sarin and delivery.

Pepe had Peter Lavelle in stitches as he called out Obama :)
Putin is the top story on all the various news websites:

Interesting press conference with Putin today. Some quotes here:
