Clashes were reported between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and local militants, mostly Hayat Tahrir al-Sham members, in the Rastan pocket on February 12 and February 13. SAA units allegedly entered the area of Maqsam al-Humrat and took control of most of it.
Pro-government sources speculated that these clashes indicate an upcoming large-scale operation in the area. While the Rastan pocket remains a point of instability, it is unlikely that the SAA will be able to launch any kind of large-scale military operation in the area any time soon.
Meanwhile, fighting continued in the area of the ISIS-held pocket in northern Hama where the SAA and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham were pressuring ISIS from two directions.
The frontline between the SAA and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham near Abu al-Duhur remains stable while the sides are re-grouping and re-deploying forces for the upcoming operations.
On February 12, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) shot down a Turkish unmanned aerial combat vehicle (UACV) in Afrin. According to a video released by the YPG, the downed UACV was likely a Bayraktar Tactical UAS.
The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army captured the village of Muhammadiyah and Amarah Hill.
According to the TAF’s general staff, 31 Turkish soldiers were killed and 143 others were injured in Operation Olive Branch in the period between January 20 and February 12. On the same day, the TAF claimed that the number of so-called ‘neutralized terrorists’ was at 1,350.
On the same day, the Pentagon requested $550 million to train and equip units operating under the brand of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Kurdish-dominated group described by Ankara as a terrorist organization. The YPG is the core of the SDF. The $550 million will be separated into two parts:
- $300 million to train and equip the SDF;
- $250 million for so-called “border security requirements related to the counter-[ISIS] mission”.
In other words, Washington not only tricked the Erdogan government with its promises to drop support to the SDF, but hasn’t even abandoned the idea of establishing the so-called “border force” in northern Syria. On January 17, US State Secretary Rex Tillerson officially said that the US has no intention to establish a “border force”. But, the reality seems to be quite different. The Pentagon’s request sparked outrage in the Turkish media and negative comments by the Turkish leadership further complicating the diplomatic relations between the sides.
On February 13, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deployed additional missile defense systems to the contact line with Syria according to photos and videos circulating online. The IDF deployed at least one Iron Dome missile defense system. Local sources speculate that the IDF will further strengthen its anti-missile capabilities in the area soon.
The israeli repositioning of their ad assets indicates they are rethinking tactics for their cowardly provocations against Syria. Could also be prep for a war against Lebanon.

Russian MoD: Al-Nusra, White Helmets Preparing Provocation With Chemical Weapons
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201802131061612872-al-nusra-front-white-helmets-chemical-weapons-russia-syria/
“The Russian center for Syrian reconciliation stated that it had received information from a local resident that al-Nusra Front terrorists and White Helmets were preparing to stage a provocation, involving chemical weapons’ use, in Syria’s Idlib province in order to blame Damascus for the attack on civilians.
“On the evening of February 12, the Russian center for reconciliation received a telephone call from the resident a settlement in the Idlib province, informing about a forthcoming provocation, using poisonous chemicals, to air it on a foreign television channel. According to the person, on the afternoon of February 12, the al-Nusra Front militants delivered brought more than 20 bottles of chlorine and personal protective equipment on three cars,” the Russian military stated.
The person, who called, drew attention to the fact that these actions were filmed by professional TV correspondents who, commenting on the actions of representatives of the White Helmets, put on a microphone with a cover, having a logo of a Western television company.
“At the same time, correspondents consulted with someone via a satellite phone in English. Information received from a resident of the province of Idlib, causes serious concern of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria.”
Indication of zionazi plans to mount another false flag based assault on Syria, with foreknowledge and help from their usual zio-gay media echo chamber.

Clooney’s Goons Planning Sarin Attack on Syria, Another False Flag
https://www.veteranstoday.com/2018/02/13/clooneys-goons-planning-sarin-attack-on-syria-another-false-flag/
You are digging too deep. Distraction. Netanyahoo has a court case and corruption trial going through the courts right now. Israeli police substantiate his involvement in bribery two days ago.
This is distraction. In the same way as France’s terrorist attacks have justified keeping the bankrupt French government on a non-audit, non-disclosure emergency wartime budget for 5 years hiding the extent of their trouble and undermining the failure that is the EU, this too is just a ploy.
Aint going anywhere. But it does give you an idea of how far beneath them political pychos see the public, the law etc, to dispose of a few lives to maybe save their asses.
I was thinking something similar… The US can print as many dollars as they want, and distribute it among their key allies. However, the rest of the world cannot do the same. In a war with Turkey, or Russia, or Iran, they (the US) would backrupt these countries with endless attacks, costing these countries money and lives that they cannot afford or cannot accept to lose…
@ anon
to which I add
…and if the US could, without repercussion or the high probability of failure/reciprocal loss, they would have done so already.
Nothing about the hundreds of Russian mercs that were killed by the USA?
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-13/us-strikes-kill-100-russian-soldiers-syria
This is an important event the details of which must be disclosed as it has critical military and political ramifications for President Putin going forward. See: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-13/u-s-strikes-said-to-kill-scores-of-russian-fighters-in-syria ).
Some questions for those among us (Saker, Larchmonter445, etc.) who are skilled in analyzing what actually occurred in that battle space.
1. How many (and who specifically) were defending against the attack? It was reported that aircraft and artillery were used to repel the assault. We don’t know as of yet what kind of aircraft (helicopter gunships, CAS fixed wing, etc.) were used to defend the U.S. Base.
2. According to the article, the attack against the base started on February 7 with artillery, combat tanks, and MLRS systems used to begin the action followed by a “battalion-sized formation” (quote from U.S. spokesman) of ground forces advancing on the position. if the reports around the casualties are true, the percentage of losses and wounded are around 20 – 30% given a battalion is generally sized up to 1,000 soldiers.
3. This battle may be classified as a skirmish but the facts remain that Russian mercenaries fought against the Kurdish supported U.S. forces and were beaten back. It is difficult to believe the Russian government’s response which made the point that Russian regular military personnel were not involved which I believe is truthful. However the wounded were treated at hospitals in St. Petersburg and Moscow which strongly suggests these fighters had to be triaged on the ground before being airlifted by Russian military airlift support and flown back back to the motherland for care.
4. This mission appears to not have been planned out very well by these mercenaries. The intelligence acquired to justify the attack did not divulge the military strength and capability of the U.S. base to defend itself. With the election for the Russian presidency happening next month, this was an ill timed effort and should not have happened until after President Putin gets re-elected. Thankfully the Russian people are not easily swayed to change their vote, unlike my fellow Americans.
I would like one question answered ,why didn’t the Syrians attacking that area have Russian air cover?
I figure it is like Indian insisting on they won the border war in 1967 at the one place where Chinese is weakest and the terrain was at most disadvantage. Of course Chinese started fight and lost, not only once, but twice. No one else heard such story, except Indians….
zerohedge.com is now a huffington post-lite. It is near worthless for any kind of analysis. It used to be a great financial analysis source (I contributed as a writer). Now the “Tylers” just post crap for clicks like politics, doom porn, and crappy stories like the one you cite. Look at the sources cited, like Bloomberg, “Mad Pussy” Mattis and Thomas F. Veale (these two are nothing but politicians in military holloween costumes).
Your citation is just another propaganda piece aka “fakenews.”
I agree – if its only Zerohedge that’s said it – once – early in the day – then it might not even have happened –
The thing that gets me in all of the South Front information above – is how inexperienced Putin obviously was in withdrawing and being ceremonial about Russia help for Syria –
Hi Ann, remember this is an election year in Russia. He did state that they were withdrawing (great show to keep his word that this was a limited engagement and “I brought the troops home”, BUT he did state that if the need arises, that they will be back in force.) This is exactly what happened – cockroachs coming out of the woodwork for their destiny with death and Mother (and the axis of resistance) is ready to accelerate their destiny.
I do enjoy your posts – you are a clear thinker. Thanks!
The sequence of events was:
1. Russian jet shot down by US manpad.
2. Russian/Syria hit several ‘terrorist’ /Kurdish bases.
3. The US kill a large number of Russian mercs embedded with the Syrians.
4. 3 heads of Russian intelligence arrive publicly in Washington for talks.
Past Russian asymmetric response to overt attack has been to take out the eyes and ears of their enemies. If I remember correctly, last time they killed 32 Israeli, US, Canadian and Brit intelligence operatives behind ISIS lines in their hill bunkers in response to a US led ISIS counter offensive that killed Russians.
I would think that a large number of US/Israeli etc special forces and intelligence assets went dead in the Russian counter strikes to Kurdish / ‘terrorist’ bases. This is why the story is generally being kept quiet: no story is better than the full story.

Any news about all sayings about USAF killing scores of russian mercenaries in Syria?
I doubted that these to be stupid enough to attack like this but now these news is coming from so many directions so I m starting to Think this really happened.
My thinking, if true, that these might have been the Chechen specop units embedded in the sa by Kadyrov.
Dunno, haven’read anything yet.
Even if proper Russian mercs, methinx they would be in contact with cental command – and even they are not crayzeee enough to give the demented empire such a propaganda showcase in such critical times.
Ammeen what’s the point? That base strategically is unimportant. Sure, it is a thorn, but not much more.
If it was me, I’d concentrate on Damascus and match the jews on the Golan – while keeping up with the mop-up elsewhere.
Thanks for answer
No, I dont understand what they expected to win when they know SDF or whatever name they have is protected by US. If this is true it´s remarkably stupid.
“…match the jews on the Golan” —
The original probable (and preferred by some) scenario was a destabalised US-friendly Syrian regime neutralising the Russian naval base assets on the coast; a NATO (read turkey) expansion into northern Syria or at least the establishment of a non-Syrian ‘Kurdistan’ region where this was not possible; and a consolidation of the Golan Heights region under Israel.
Although this plan has been somewhat frustrated by Russian and Iranian involvement it has not been entirely foiled (so far).
It is more than likely the Kurds will achieve some of their independence objectives but not a continuous area through to the Mediterranean. An irritation to Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria as a US dependency but not a strategic threat.
As Syria’s north settles down into a new equilibrium the now battle experienced Syrian forces (and Iranian strategists) will focus on the south. And whereas the Syrian war attracted hordes of Saudi/US funded organ eaters (mostly 2nd, 3rd, 4th sons with traditionally little else to do than war to benefit their families) the escalation of tensions to free “all Syria” including the Golan Heights risks attracting a much wider and deeper regional response from renewed Arab sentiment against Zionist occupation of Palestine.
It is clear that Chinese and Russian efforts to rebuild Syria will help expand the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and with Iran and Pakistan in the waiting rooms the new ‘Silk Road’ will make its way through to the Mediterranean. The ‘win-win’ for Russia, as it reduces its operational air forces in Syria, is a large section of compliant dependent Arab estate for Russian energy transport infrastructure together with the opportunity to play ‘S-400’ empowered UN traffic cop and regional referee from the vantage point of a disputed Golan Heights. If ‘peace’ then all continues according to plan and the SCO-scenario attracts ALL players except the USA and its endangered usd$. If ‘war’ then Russia is uniquely placed to step in under UN mandate to keep the peace between Israel and Iran. Improved developments between Russia and Egypt (and reduced Saudi ‘aid’ capacity) add incentive for the Israeli regime to find opportunities within the new emerging dynamics. Netanyahu’s impending clash with the Law may see some swift changes post-imprisonment.
The ‘tea-leaves’ suggest a balanced tipping point between war and peace scenarios with a slightly higher risk of the war-framework in the short term due to ‘irrational exuberance’ within the DC neocon Swamp. Dramatic interruptions aside, the longer-term trends are towards peace and business Shanghai style. It is difficult to see how Russia can lose either way. The 120-year Zionist experiment has just passed its halfway mark and the tortuous path towards a future non-apartheid ‘Palestine’ state for all its citizens will only gain momentum.
You are certainly very well informed, and know how to interpret the facts. I hope you are right about Palestine.
I read that 200 Russians are killed in US air strike.
But Putin is silent.
Moderator J NOTE: Lots of comments today regarding the supposed high Russian death toll in this reported strike. Lots of emotion raised based on speculation of what may or may not be mostly false news. Here’s an article which takes a bit more conservative approach. https://southfront.org/video-us-led-coalition-strikes-positions-of-syrian-government-forces-in-deir-ezzor-province/
Hi
I´m not sure wheter it´s good sign or a bad that Kreml i s still quiet.
What are they planning, some revenge or? Just being quiet i s not Putin style or is it.
Marko
Even US sources did not put the number of Russian dead that high. As for Putin, he did not control those Russians fighting with the Syrian military and who were NOT members of the regular Russian Army. It is still not clear what really happened, as “reports” are contradictory, many speculative.
Isn’t it just as possible that there is no such thing as “100” or “”200” or “600” or “big number” of “Russian forces” killed in the attack by the US defending ISIS?
There are several reason why some event could be inflated for reasons other than actually happening:
1) demoralize the supporters of the lawful government of Syria and its Russian allies;
2) undercut President Putin in the last weeks before his own election in Russia;
3) cause increased hatred (by exaggeration) among different groups in Syria for purposes;
4) reinforce the promoted idea in the US that Russia rally is “the enemy” and killing them is just fine.
(i.e. as practice for later)
I remember during the USNATO bombing of the Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija that there was a front-page article in the New York Times describing in great detail how the B-52s were totally obliterating the Serbian defenders and they only prayed that they could survive. As it happens, it was all a total fabrication, but the purpose of the article was to demoralize the Serbs and their allies such as us.
I watched the video under this headline yesterday and it included pictures of a convoy of Israeli (read NATO) Patriot missile batteries and support vehicles moving northward along major roads towards the Syrian border — an unmistakable sign of preparation for war against Russia and Syria.
I do not see those pictures today, for what I believe is the same headline, and unless I am mistaken, they have been removed, replaced or somehow redirected.
A major escalation of this war is occurring just days before Netanyahu is set to be indicted for some of his lesser crimes. I do not believe those moving against the Israeli PM or attempting to stop a major conflagration, which include regular protests organized by Israelis demanding his arrest, have the power to remove him at this late stage of the game.
The public is still sleeping or too distracted and addicted to care.
The two factions fighting to ignite or prevent a full blown World War 3 scenario are moving their pawns into position. We are just one spark away from the initiation of a terrible scenario.
On June 28, 1814 the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand occurred in Sarajevo. It is said in official histories that this was the event which ignited the war no one had expected.
In fact almost everyone was ready at the begining of the Great War, which despite some long interludes of relative quiet continues essentially to this day.
These are your Zionist elites, who rape and pillage the planet for their own narrow benefit — and they are doing it again.

I have recently been re reading the Fromkin book A Peace to End All Peace.
As is my habit when reading official histories I always search out alternative ‘conspiracist’ interpretations online, to get a better understanding and amass different interpretations of what is actually occurring.
The information at the link above will fill in many blanks. Everywhere you will see striking parallels between then and now. Read alongside the Fromkin book, which is careful misdirection, will be that much more valuable.
I believe we are standing at the precipice, with elements of the psychopathic elite unwilling to hold back any longer because they fear they are running out of time.
Putin has managed to foil all their plans to date and this sort of personality — someone armed with a good understanding of real history and in a position to prevent the re ignition of the ZIonist World War against humanity — did not exist in 1914.
So yes, still there is hope.
Thierry Meyssan has written another important article illuminating our present circumstances.
The illusion of the eradication of Daesh
http://www.voltairenet.org/article199706.html
John Helmer, like Thierry Meyssan, is another person who takes an idealized perspective on what a jounalist should do in the service of Truth.
He has also written an incredibly important recent piece which must be carefully read. In it he defines the two main factions vying for power in Russia.
The most important part of that article is italicized below and he has repeated it subsequently so you know he thinks it’s important.
The factional lineup for succession to the prime ministry and to the presidency is currently between officials and oligarchs advocating capitulation to the US (CUS), and those in favour of resistance to the US (RUS). The CUS capitulationists include Alexei Kudrin, whom Medvedev sacked in 2011 for trying to replace him with Washington’s backing. Also in the CUS faction are German Gref; Anatoly Chubais; Mikhail Abyzov; and inside the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov.
The RUS faction includes Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin; Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu; former chief of the Kremlin staff Sergei Ivanov; Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev; and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
http://johnhelmer.net/the-clown-and-the-elephants-deputy-prime-minister-arkady-dvorkovich-says-there-are-no-oligarchs-in-russia/#more-18606
When you tie the information relayed above to the situation of the Ottoman Empire in 1914, you will again see some very striking parallels.
John refers to the faction supporting capitulation to Western Zionists at the CUS.
I could not help but notice how similar this is to the Committee for Union and Progress, the CUP, formed by the Young Turks after they seized control of the Ottoman Empire in a British-Zionist sponsered coup against the Ottoman Sultan who refused to give away Palestine to the Rothchilds and their minions.
The situation of the CUP of the Ottoman Empire in 1914 is almost identical to that of the CUS in Russia today.
The CUP, forerunners of todays Turkish AKP, did not mind bringing their country into a general war that would lead to it’s dismemberment.
If you have also read of the chicanery of Winston Churchill and the German transfer of the Battlecruiser Goebben and a smaller ship to the Ottomans in 1914, which I posted above, you will also know it was subsequently used to shell the Russian Black Sea coast of the Russian Empire thus bringing the Turks onto the side of the Central Powers in World War 1. Something similar is being repeatd today with Erdogan’s Turkey being pushed into an alliance with Russia just as the Ottomans were pushed into alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary in World War I.
The business of redrawing the borders of the Middle East and Russia began in 1914 has hardly begun.
The CUS of Russia today are in a similar position to the CUP of the Turks in 1914. They seek to bring Russia into a war for the purpose of it’s dismemberment.
The alliance of Russia and Islam, as pushed by such figures as Sheikh Imran Hossein — and who I personally believe is either a dupe or eschatological agent of Zionism — is identical to the situation in which the Ottomans and Germans were pushed into alliance by the British in 1914, and accomplished with much help from German Zionist collaborators.
Today all of us know how that particular stage of the war on humanity, World War I, ended for both Germany and the Turks, not to mention for Russia.
Also, I would be willing to bet Putin knows all this and more.
Oh yes, there is more.
Many of you will recall how Erdogan has been reported to have stated the territory conquered by Turks in Syria will be returned to it’s rightful owners.
Below is an article where one of his advisors repeats the threat, contradicting the Turks much adverstised committment to Russia and Iran to respect current borders.
Turkey will not hand over Afrin to Assad – Erdogan advisor
http://theregion.org/article/12669-turkey-will-not-hand-over-afrin-to-assad-erdogan-advisor
If you understand Erdogan believes all former territories of the Ottoman Empire where stolen by competing imperial powers and thus it’s rightful owners are located in modern day Turkey, you will further understand his intentions in Syria.
The same applies to the territories of Palestine, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and so on. Erdogan believes all of these lands belong rightfully to the Turks, and he has stated this many, many times before. His personal plan is to restart the World War in the hopes of reconquering the territories of the Ottoman Empire.
It is next to impossible put oneself in the mind of anyone, including a figure like Tayip Erdogan, however I believe we are dealing with a character and personality that is not so dissimilar to Adolf Hitler, sorrounded by sycophants and a cadre British-Zionist spies who will tell him whatever he wants to hear and promise the moon while they use him to push for the interests of their Zionist masters, which for some of them at least, includes the earliest possible resumption of a generalized world war.
Hitler Rants About Turkey’s Erdoğan Citing Him As An Example of Effective Government
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73TU9uBPMVg
The above is meant to illicit a laugh but there is no small irony here and I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t feel jovial.
So, if a dumbass like myself can figure these things out then it is reasonable to conclude that the Russians can also do the same. Their inaction and attempts to postpone the start of this war suggest they have made several important calculations some of which are not commonly stated in pro Russian alternative media, including:
1. Russia is not strong enough to fight the Anglo-Zionist Empire all by itself, nor will it be for the forseeable future.
2. Turkey is not, nor will it ever be, a reliable partner for Russia.
3. China will not come to the rescue of Russia. The situation in Korea is the stick being used to keep China on the sidelines of any such war. The carrot has been massive economic development assistance provided to China since Kissinger began his diplomatic efforts in the 1970’s and which truly got underway after the assasination of Mao.
Further:
The Empire wants Russia to give it an excuse to re start the full blown World War of the last century at the most oportune time for itself.
The most opportune moment would come immediately before, during or after the destruction of US dollar hegemony, something which will impoverish the American people in particular and grows more and more imminent with each passing day.
If Russia refuses to move forward in the direction favoured by the Empire, for example refusing to seize Ukraine as they could have done easily back in 2014 after the coup against Yanukovych, then other characters such as Erdogan will be enticed to expand the war and eventually, they hope, force Russia’s hand.
In the meantime it is the responsibility of every person of good conscience to educate themselves and their neighbours and make everyone understand the Party of Peace is in a precarious position and everyone has a duty to contribute to long term efforts aimed at undermining the Party of War.
Most of all, stop believing the lies you are told and if you are not so foolish as to think you will escape the fallout of a modern world war, stop collaborating with the Zionist Menace.
Gosh, I’m on a roll, and almost no one will read, much less follow links, for anything I post in this fractured environment.

Regarding the supposed 100+ Russians killed by israel’s pindo pets, I’ve seen nothing about this on Sputnik or RT. Too difficult to run a check of Russian language media, noticed nobody has posted a Russian source of this “news”. That and given the amount spamming about it I’ve seen, looks like this is another zionazi psyops scam.
Incidentally, I did see an article this am about a Russian who was killed in that strike, but he wasn’t a Russian soldier. He worked with some org called “Other Russia”, I think. Later if I have time, I’ll search for the article.
Russian Citizen Killed in US Coalition Attack on Pro-Damascus Forces
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201802131061604465-syria-death-russia-coalition-airstrike/
The US-led coalition in Syria opened fire at pro-Syrian government forces last week “in defense” of Syrian Democratic Forces headquarters.
Russian citizen and “Another Russia” activist Kiril Ananyev was killed in Syria as result of an airstrike launched by the US-led coalition, the group’s coordiantor Alexander Averin told RIA Novosti news agency.
“He wasn’t an official military service member” and used to be a volunteer in Donbass, Averin said, adding that Ananyev is survived by his wife and children.”

in this link I posted 11 Feb are several non mainstream russian sources quoted………..but
The Kremlin does not have data on the death of Russian military in Syria, and the information published in the media requires verification. In addition, politician Grigory Yavlinsky can hardly have accurate data on the deaths of Russians, said Dmitry Peskov, presidential spokesman.
The representative of the Kremlin noted that on the issue of the dead Russians in Syria, it is necessary to turn first to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“Because, firstly, we operate with you information published in the media. I do not think that Mr. Yavlinsky has any more reliable sources of information. But in this case, we urge nonetheless not to use media reports as the primary source. And, of course, let’s all the same be aware that in many countries of the world there is a sufficient number of our compatriots, Russians. And, of course, it is very difficult to have some detailed information here, “Peskov said.
He noted that the information published in the media should be checked.”

Media reports about a large number of Russians killed in a US-led coalition’s attack in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor on February 7 are fake, Chairman of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov told reporters on Wednesday.

Russian Foreign Ministry refutes reports about Russians killed in Syria
https://sana.sy/en/?p=127351
Our world is slowly, actually in the last month not so slowly, approaching the active continuation of the war that started in 1914. While there have been interludes of relative ‘peace’, read the main antagonists were not bayoneting each other by the tens of thousands daily, reality is there has been no peace since that fateful day in 1914.
The fall of the Russian Empire, to a more or less great extent by it’s own hand, was one of the main events of that war and this destruction effectively negated any Russian influence in world events for a generation during which time all the protagonists managed to grow another generation of fighting age men. Looking back from the relatively clear vision of a century, one can see that the second part of this war was inflicted on themselves by the supposed victors of the first active phase of the war with their draconian sanctions and reparations pushed on Germany and Austria. The ‘victors’ certainly harvested what they had sown and in spades, as did most of the northern hemisphere of this rock we are on.
Through the three decades after the second active phase of the 1914 war, massive rebuilding was done in all the continental areas of the fighting and in China and Japan. Entire cultures had been flattened and some completely wiped out, never to return, in the first two active phases of the war. Such is war which saw England die on Flanders fields, France had died on the retreat from Moskau in 1812, bayoneted yet again in the 1870’s and effectively destroyed at Verdun. Russia was prostrate after 1918, rebuilt herself by the 1930’s and attacked again in 1941, being almost totally destroyed from Moskau west to the borders of ‘olde Europe’ by 1945. Reality is USA was the only one standing in 1945, Europe, North Afrika, Japan and China were destroyed.
In the ensuing ‘peace’, aka Pax Rossiya, of 1954 to 1990, Europe, Russia and Japan rebuilt themselves from the ground up. Both Russia and US occupied Europe and US occupied Japan, US still occupying these areas, Russia having withdrawn when SSSR disintegrated around 1990. In the ensuing 25 years since SSSR ceased to exist, Russia has pulled herself up by her boot straps and to a fair extent stopped the wholesale looting and plundering of former SSSR riches and resources.
In the meantime, US has, against all guaranties given to SSSR and Russia, expanded nato to the very borders of Russia and has actively engaged Russia in several fronts, most recent in Gruzya and Syria. The Gruzya war was short and a lesson to both us/nato and Russia. Now, at the request of the legal government of Syria, Russia has stepped in to stop the ‘civil’ war, read attempt to destroy and fragment Syria, and to a large extent defeated IGIL (or whatever name they go by on this day) and pushed us/nato away from the main population centers of Syria. The cost has been horrendous but there is a glimmer of victory, and peace, on the horizon.
Us/nato have done their very best to negate Russia’s efforts in Syria and the success of President Putin in stopping any possibility of war and occupation by us/nato of Krimea and Sevastopol, both entities being the prize of the coup in Kiev in 2014. As a result of President Putin’s success in these two agendas and President Putin stopping the genocide and destruction of Novorossiya, to some ‘Donbas’, us/nato are now fully committed to war against Russia. They are slowly but steadily putting a ring of missile defenses around Russia, from the Baltic area down to the east and southern Black Sea (and shortly in Gruzya), now Korea and Japan, and of course defenses are in and have been in Alaska.
Now, here’s a little breath of reality. When the wagon train, aka Russia, has circled, and the bad guys, aka us/nato, are slowly moving closer and closer to the circle of wagons while continuously muttering platitudes and disavowing any ulterior motives, what is one to think whilst sitting inside the circle of wagons? We KNOW what to think and we know what is coming, the only question is when. The problem is us/nato knows they can not defeat Russia in a conventional war and they know a ‘non conventional’ war will see the utter and total destruction of at least the northern half of our home planet.
Therefore us/nato have only one, actually two, possibilities of action at this time. One is the ongoing and ever increasing sanctions against Russia, each an act of war in and of itself. The other is to actively fight against Russia in Syria and this is what us/nato have been doing since Russia was invited by the legally elected government of the Sovereign State of Syria to help defeat the terrorists/us/nato attempting to destroy Syria. In this ongoing war, and that’s exactly what it is, a war between us/nato and Russia, losses have and will occur to both sides. Both sides will use whatever propaganda they can to make themselves look like virtuous warriors while denigrating the other side. Such is life for eons. The reality is us/nato and Russia have tried not to actively fight each other with their own troops, they use proxies in general and both sides have advisers helping their proxies and for Russia helping the armed forces of Syria. As a result of these advisers and proxies, losses occur on each side.
The actual fight ballyhooed in the news was simply an air attack by illegal us/nato forces against Syrian government forces approaching an area us/nato did not want them near. It is unknown if Russia or Syria was aware of the actual quite small force advancing towards a ‘us/nato secure zone’ but the air attack did happen and reliable reports are three contractors and ‘a few’ Syrian troops were killed. Such is war and the end result was some more grieving widows and families on both sides as us/nato protected their IGIL proxies, nothing more.
Now as far as reality in this ongoing continuation of the 1914 war. Who are you to believe and put your faith in? Are you to believe a man who came from virtually nowhere in 1999, reached down and pulled Russia from the deadly morass she was sinking in, rebuilt the Russian economy, rebuilt the Russia armed forces in to a force that is both patriotic and a force to be reckoned with, restored the diplomatic corp of Russia with the likes of Minister Lavrov, restored the faith of the population to Russia and enjoys somewhere around 80% approval of his policies both home and international? Or are you to believe in the likes of Tillerson and Mattis, in the likes of a country whose president has no real power to this day and in my opinion is the midst of an ongoing and vicious coup d’etat against the legally elected government and the president, whose military is a half assed experiment in social engineering and is scattered all across the globe with no real power in any one given area? A country that actively stifles any descent against it’s will all over this globe and is steadily moving to war against a nuclear armed country that has displayed no aggression since 1990? A country that is rapidly turning in to an economic disaster and becoming a police state the likes of which Goebbels and Beria would love and admire?
I know that’s a difficult question but sitting here on one of many ground zeroes, I know who my faith is in.

@Auslander (from another auslander). Excellent summary of the overall situation and which side to trust. As regards current news I anticipate a lot of propaganda “spreading alarm and despondency” about Russia in general and Pres.Putin in particular, ahead of the coming election. As evinced by a rash of such posts springing up above; these are flooding in, not only under familiar names like Anonymous but also under names which are new to me.
Dr. Maroudas
Thank you for your compliments on the article.
I, too, have noticed the steadily increasing posts here and a couple military forums I’m active on trying to spread doom and gloom about Russia and President Putin, both his election chances and his policies in general. We laugh at them and my wife has been know to put such posts on her ‘girl’ forums here, again to laughter and questions as to what planet these posters are on. They can post all they want, most of them would give their eye teeth to live here….but they never will.

“The authorities of Ukraine can regain control over the Crimea only by force. This was stated on air of the Ukrainian television channel “112” by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Yuri Bereza.
The Ukrainian parliamentarian assured that the Ukrainian Army has become “one of the strongest armies in Europe” and now its potential is sufficient for an offensive on Crimea.
“Only the Ukrainian soldier, the Ukrainian army is able to regain sovereignty in the Donbass and Crimea. There are no other options” – said Bereza.
He also added that the Minsk agreements were useful for Ukraine only because they allowed for the necessary military construction to take place and for the reoganisation of the armed forces”

Good luck to them on any offensive against Russian territory for the orcs that’s a death wish of the first magnitude. Not only do they have to go through the Russian army, they’ve got to go through us and we won’t be as kind as Mother by any stretch of the imagination.
It was, and is, common knowledge that the two Minsk agreements were simply Mutti Merkel and Golland buying time to save the orcs and I’m sure President Putin was fully aware of this, but then we have some UN officialdom in regards to the Minsk accords. Not that the useless herd of fops in NYC have said one word about the orcs abiding by the accords of Minsk. What a surprise.

Very calm and astute analysis, Auslander.
The linkage to 1914 reduces the hysteria of “now”. We see a process across one century in which empires rose and fell, some lessons learned, most ideologies still very alive (Japan, US, Europe).
What is quite new is the Russia of 2018. It has devised tactics and logistics for survival, a trait always rewarded in Nature. Putin’s strategies are never evident until afterward.
At its base, Russia is fit for survival. The Hegemon is set for a long slide from dominance.
Yesterday, the IC of US told the world the greatest threat to America is America’s system.
Dwell on that deeply. They know the enemy is the way they live and try to rule the world.
Yet, like any and all addicts, they cannot stop themselves from wanting more: debt, weapons, war, hegemony, chaos and suffering.
Like all sadists, they suffer the inevitable role reversal to masochist and then self-immolation.
The difference between Russia (and Eurasia’s civilizations) and America the Hegemon is the spiritual life of Russia, (also Iran, and the rest of Asia).
America as Hegemon has no soul. It’s not just the loss of morality. It’s the loss of humanity which connects to Nature, the Cosmos, the Universe and the Creator.
Putin resuscitated the body of Russia and breathed life back into its Soul. He returned Christianity to its spiritual post in Russian values. Putin thus can rule without an ideology. The flexibility of being centered with Nature and God is a power no other nation possesses.
Ultimately, the circle of humanity must connect in a common embrace of values. Russia leads the way. It’s a beginning, long from complete, and it faces many setbacks and obstacles. But, Putin is a man of history and he has wisdom. That is a pathfinding way.
@ Auslander
‘Who are you to believe and put your faith in?’ in your last paragraph.
The imbalance bigger, wider and more foolish than the compare/contrast you summarise.
Essentially, 4% of the worlds population on 6.7% of the earths land surface (2% of the earths total surface) are attempting to control the remaining 96% of the earths population, 98% of the earth’s surface, its entire banking system, international legislature and political landscape, not to mention acquire a monopoly on space. Even if the 4% were exceedingly brilliant and cohesive, once a shooting war starts and the first salvo’s are over, the 4% can not possibly re-supply either men or machines.
People wonder at China and Russia’s and many other’s patience and tolerance of overt US aggression. This steadiness under fire has something to do with nuclear parity and mutually assured destruction, plus a wish to avoid war, but mostly because all parties know that any big war results in one outcome only. The axis of evil can’t fight and win. The axis might have succeeded if they had taken a proper hold of Russia and world finance before the mid-90’s, but capricious and greedy oligarchs inhibited the absolute ruthlessness required for consolidation of power. The advent of the global internet / trade / communication etc in the late 90’s means that US/Zionist globalism can not be re-inflated or re-ignited. The internet has transformed the entire global landscape such that the international status quo of the 20th Century is irretrievable. Gone for ever. The chance has passed by. Even the global policy architect Brezinsky acknowledged this before he died and went to hell.
I am not worried about the possibility of a world war. In fact the likelihood is receding. A basic calculator in the hands of a child can show the odds of the axis winning are non-existent. Not to mean they won’t keep rattling the bombs as they back out of the kitchen and down the hallway.
I do believe that the Zionists are (for now) retreating from the ‘King of Kings’ messianic world ambition using US backed militarised global finance to the smaller ambition of consolidating the lands of David with decreasing US public support. That’s going to rumble on. This particular apartheid, like Imperial India, Boer S. Africa, the US, is one Mandela short of a dose of just deserts. I am just sad, ashamed and disgusted in the mean time.
I agree with your logicalcomment, proper gander. Yes, the 4% cannot win from the 96% in the case of a full-fledged World War. For this reason, they are now burning the Earth bit-by-bit, country-by-country… Even so, to control the outcomes of the many proxy wars they are waging has proved to be a very difficult task, if not impossible. Ghastly butchers they are – killing millions, just to postpone the day of reckoning. I am disgusted, too.
Here is the height of hypocrisy.
The little French banker boy ‘king’ (and no doubt his motherly wife) send their ‘regards’ to the once French colony, Syria. Was it not the French regime that led the way to destroy Libya? Thereby causing untold infrastructure damage, ISIS terrorism; social breakdown including slavery; and opening up Europe to African asylum seekers?
What right do these EU poodles have to yap on about some alleged ‘gas’ event that might kill a few dozen or so when they themselves are responsible for mass carnage and misery? Was not the Syrian government’s gas assets removed during a previous US administration’s ‘red line’ drama? Have not any gas attack events in Syria been shown to be terrorist related — or at least unfortunate byproducts of normal bombing which unfortunately released chlorine products? What is going on in France for this little twerp to need such a diversion of attention?
“French President Emmanuel Macron says he is prepared to “strike” Syria if evidence is found to support claims that President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against civilians, though noted that French intelligence agencies do not have any such proof.” (ZH)
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-13/macron-france-will-strike-if-chemical-weapons-used-syria
Perhaps what this little French stooge and his ‘mom’ should concentrate on is liberating the last of the French colonies in the Pacific and cease bleeding the African continent for the ‘privilege’ of being colonized.
What a rotting carcass of worms writhing these days!
Mommie’s boy Macron prepared to strike Syria? I think his strike will prove even more cowardly than the aircraft carrier sent by Macron’s predecessor, M. Le President Sauce Hollande; killed 100 unarmed civilians and retreated declaring La Gloire et Le Victoire. Let’s face it, the French put on a good show but they havn’t won a war since Napoleon caught a cold in 1812. By the way, talking of General Nappy, is Borodino listed among his victories jon the Arc de Triomph? Because that will be the sort of victory Baby Macron can look forward to in Syria if he dares come forward from behind his wife’s skirt.
I was too young to remember the French Army running away from the Wehrmacht, and the abject Vichy regime. But I certainly remember the last stand of the French Colons in Algeria: “Women of France, do not fear for your men! So long as you stand between them and the soldiers they are safe.”
As you can see, I am a Francophile, always have been; de Gaulle must be spinning in his grave.
Warehouses With Israeli-Produced Weapons Discovered in Deir ez-Zor – Reports
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201802131061628631-warehouses-discovered-israel-weapons/
“The warehouses with a huge amount of rockets, mortars, tank shells and other ammunition were discovered in Al Boukamal and Al Mayadin areas, according to the Syrian state-run news agency. The weapons reportedly were produced in Israel.
A source told the media outlet that in one of the tunnels in the al-Sbikhan village to the east of al-Mayadin, the army units found a factory for manufacturing shells and explosives as well as barrels with a strange essence that could be used for manufacturing toxic substances.
In December 2017, Syrian Army units discovered a huge pile of the US and European-made weapons inside Daesh dens in Deir ez-Zor’s countryside.
In October, local media reported that Syrian troops had found weapons in the city of Mayadin, which had been the largest Daesh stronghold in the region, with weapons from Belgium, Great Britain, and Israel. As the Syrian military noted, the jihadists supposedly received these weapons, which were allegedly bought under Pentagon programs, in order to help the allies.”
It is now very clear that israel, besides being the orchestrator of the war against Syria, has extensive on the ground involvement with daesh in Syria. Providing support and arms and most probably operating an extensive spy network. The intelligence material gathered there by them being put to use by the americans, as well. It is also probable israeli special forces teams operate in Syria and that some of the obviously specifically targeted ops we’re by israelis.
Syrian government forces discovered warehouses stocked with weapons and ammunition, including arms produced in Israel, in Deir Ez-Zor, which had been liberated from the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS) on February 14. A day later, the Syrian state news agency released footage of the weapons.
Warehouses stocked with a large number of rockets, mortars, tank shells and other ammunition were discovered in Al Boukamal and Al Mayadin areas, according to SANA, Syria’s state-run news agency. As the report specified, some of the found weapons were produced in Israel.

The agency, which cited sources, said the Syrian government forces also found a factory manufacturing shells and explosives as well as barrels with a strange essence that could be used for manufacturing toxic substances in one of the tunnels in al-Sbikhan village, to the east of al-Mayadin.
However, no official comments on the reports from the Syrian or Israeli side followed”

During a press conference, Fayssal Mikdad, Syria’s Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, asserted that the USA aimed to prolong the war in the country.
The diplomat called on Arabs and Kurds in northern Syria to “unite and fight back at Turkish forces,” warning the Western countries against carrying out airstrikes on Syria.
“We call on the United Nations to investigate the actions and practices of the United States, which threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Syria and aim to liquidate the Syrian people, contradicting the objectives and principles of the UN. The Army will down any jet that launches an assault on Syria and that is not a mere threat… we are able to get rid of terrorists when the West stops supporting them,” Mikdad said.”…………………………………….

Speaking on the sidelines of an Iraq donors conference in Kuwait on February 13, US State Secretary Rex Tillerson rejected claims that the US lacks support in Syria. The diplomat epmhasized that Washington controls a large part of the country’s oil fields and area and this allows it to influence the situation.
“The United States and the coalition forces that are working with us to defeat [ISIS] today control 30% of the Syrian territory, and control a large amount of population, and control a large amount of Syria’s oil fields,” Tillerson told media. “This observation that the US has little leverage or role to play is simply false.”
Tillerson added that the US is “very active” in the so-called Geneva format “both in terms of working with the opposition voices to unify them and have them working toward an objective, and we’re working very closely with Russia, who has the greatest influence on the Assad regime and can bring Assad and the regime to the negotiating table in Geneva.”
He further added that Washington cooperates with “a large group of partners” that “see things the same way we [Washington] do in terms of a unified Syria, a democratic Syria, with the Syrian people deciding their own future through a new constitution and election. We have enormous support from our approach in terms of seeking a future for Syria.”

Brasco_Aad has new intel on the Feb 7 incidents:
“ Reports are emerging that the Israeli attack on Russian soldiers at T4 Airbase in Homs Syria and the US attack on Russian PMC in Deir Ezzor were actually coordinated. This was not about Syria, or Iran, but all about Russia.
“The US and Israel want to put an end to Russia’s success story in Syria and thus also negatively effect Pres. Putin’s presidential campaign bid for a new term as Russia’s president, making him appear weak and as a result vulnerable to internal dynamics.
“They want Russia out, plain and simple, because it would then be easier to take care of Iran and Hezbollah, the ultimate end game in this part of the region. The Russians are the only ones who stand in their way.
“Israel used the ‘Iranian drone infiltration’ near the occupied Golan Heights as an excuse to launch a massive attack on Syrian Air bases housing regular Russian troops and mainly on T4 airbase, Syria’s largest airbase. +
“US also made up an excuse about ‘pro regime forces’ who were trying to engage innocent ‘SDF’ troops in Deir Ezzor governorate. The US took this lie, spun it around a little bit and turned it into an opportunity to murder between 12-30 PMC.
“Russia acted furiously, but it will tolerate the US bombing on Russian PMC for now, because this is easier to hide for the Russian public. Russian Presidential elections are less than a month away.
“It did not however tolerate the Israeli attack on T4 in which a few regular Russian troops were wounded. This attack could have been much worse if not for Putin personally making a phone call to Netanyahu telling him to abort this suicide mission
“and if the attack was not stopped at once (and these are rumours), Russia would not only destroy every single Israeli Jet operating in Syrian airspace, but it would also target and annihilate Israeli Air bases. +
“The Israelis immediately understood how serious the Russians were and quickly aborted the next pre-planned wave of attacks, but not before Syrian air defense shot down an Israeli F16I and damaged an Israeli F-15I (being hidden from the Israeli public)
“as an overall warning that Syria, Russia and Iran would not tolerate any further Israeli shenenigans from now on
“Russian retaliation against the US inside Syria will come after the Russian Pres. Elections (1 April 2018). And how will Russia retaliate? Only Russia knows. “
