How delightful are evenings in Russia
This collection was made for us by the Russian translator of my book.
This year we marked, somewhat quietly, the 20th anniversary of the second (unofficial) anthem of Russia. Composed in 1996 by Alexander Dobronravov in New York City (of all places!) where he was on a long business trip recording music, this song elicits a lot of purely Russian sentimentalism, but the song itself just gives you a lot of fun and relaxation.
Enjoy:
(the first performers)
(video clip after a TV series)
(young saxophonist)
starting with 1:17
(amateur singers beat all professionals!) – от души!
(Obama singing for Putin) – it’s a joke
The song is liked by everyone – from youngsters dancing to the tune
to VERY OLD people singing to a folk instrument band:
Lyrics in English.
How delightful are evenings in Russia…
Love, champagne, sunsets, quiet town streets,
Ah, beautiful summer, sunsets and walks,
How delightful are evenings in Russia…
Dances, beauties, waiters, cadets,
And Waltzes by Schubert, and crunch of French baguette
Love, champagne, sunsets, quiet town streets,
How delightful are evenings in Russia
How delightful evenings in Russia…
In the sunset glare of flames over the summer,
And the sky is as blue as the Russian poet’s eyes
How delightful are evenings in Russia,
It doesn’t matter that all is a dream and love is a game
and that my feelings and embraces means nothing to you
In this and in other world I will always remember
How delightful are evenings in Russia.
It doesn’t matter that all is a dream and love is a game
and that my feelings and embraces means nothing to you
In this and in other world I will always remember
How delightful are evenings in Russia.
Thank you for your time

P.S. Also, a videos provided by Uncle Bob
the most well known video of it on Youtube.
I always liked that song a lot. But you forgot the most well known video of it on Youtube.

And to those that don’t know ,the period piece video posted in the article is from a very popular soap opera called “Bednaya Nastya”. Here is the main song from it,another one I like. The show starred some of Russia’s most popular actors and singers of that time.

Lastly, since I’m very interested in that historical period. Here is another song and clip from a well known (in the USSR) movie that was set in that period.

The key line that touches everybody’s heart is
In this and in other world I will always remember..
which actually literally means:
As long as I live and in the afterlife I will be recalling how delightful evenings in Russia are…
The music is beautiful, and the Obama clip is hilarious!!
thanks Scott :-)
I like all the videos with the exception of the last one. Being a Christian, I feel that the young man should leave somebody else’s wife strictly alone!
And the actresses, especially the blond one. Are they of this world? Blond woman with almond eyes, high cheek bones and soft features like Anna Chapman! And her full lips beats Julie Christie of Dr Zhivago fame! Likely I can interest one of my grandsons to study in Russia when he grows up! Having Sino-Russian great grandchildren seems the way to go in the era of Eurasia!
Mmm…
I better like ‘Katyusha’ or ‘Sebastopol Waltz’ as Russia’s second national Anthem.
