Why do they not build it from Krym to Kavkaz? It is shorter. They already have railroad connections to both places.
Simple. The sea floor substrata was not sufficient to carry the bridge, hence the current location. Several routes were investigated and the current location was chosen as the best for all parameters.

Russia Deploys Advanced S-400 Air Missile System to Crimea
Russia has deployed its advanced S-400 air defense missile system to annexed Crimea, Russian news agencies reported on Friday, citing a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.
S-400The announcement comes two days after President Vladimir Putin promised to take counter-measures after what he said were clashes between Russian forces and Ukrainian saboteurs in northern Crimea.
