I came to that conclusion nearly two years ago – I thought the confrontation would come in Armenia but instead they have gone for the throat by having it in Ukraine and in fact East of the Dnieper.
Oh Dear God.

What the hell can we do to stop it? Call your Congresscritters, write LTEs to every paper you can think of, and work HARD on everyone you know, using anything you can possibly come up with to get them to oppose this maniacal stupidity. Other ideas?

Your rational is correct, they will not go to direct military conflict against Russia because they’ll lose very badly. Their real intent seems to be to bluff, demonize and distract (i.e distract the western public from the slow degradation and downward spiral of our economies.)
Russia is a global military superpower, its capacity increases each year and now any weaknesses or gaps in their techonology (electronics, avionics, precision guidance, and other digital high-tech technology) has long ago been overcome. Now thanks to superior physical characteristics of Russian weaponry, coupled with western level electronic smarts, most Russian weapon systems are superior and certainly much more robust than their western equivalents. Add to that the Russian armed forces are competently led and their soldiers are amongst the toughest and most stubborn in the world (and thanks to the slaughter of ethnic Russian women and children by EU deathsquads in Ukraine, Russian soldiers are likely tobe “highly motivated” to render payback.).
The cowards in London never take on a power that can actually shoot back. These malevolent little Orcs are content to attack weak poorly armed countries like Iraq, Libya, Ossetia, Grenada, etc.
Taking on Russia in direct offensive is lunacy. The cowards aren’t going to do that..

Sergey Lavrov’s briefing of the international press earlier today is up on YouTube, alas without any foreign language caption or voice-over. One would think that in the colossal Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Moscow there were at least a few people willing and able to swiftly translate and summarize the minister’s words so they can be made available on the ministry’s web site and on social media globally without much delay. But apparently there aren’t. So, as usual, all that non-Russian speakers will be left with is an incompetently handled, garbled summary by Itar Tass, by Ria Novosti or, worse still, by RT where they specialize in totally obnoxious video effects and in breathless, hectic commentary delivered by presenters with Donald Duck voices … sigh. When will Russia learn that in times of universal deceit and propaganda, well presented, truthful and multi-lingual (!) PR is vital for the country’s reputation and for its global image?

The only way the west could prevail over Russia is through the use of nuclear weapons. The west apparently believes that they could “win” a nuclear war, i.e. sustain fewer casualties. These images supposedly show that Russia fired ARTILLERY into Ukraine recently.
