Alexander Solzhenitsyn liked to say that “one teaspoon of sea water gives you the taste of the ocean”. Today I would like to post here the text of a letter to the Russian embassy in Germany by a private person which is exactly that: the letter of (only) one person. However, the feelings which it conveys are, I believe, shared by a lot of people in the “West”. It would well be that this letter is like Solzhenitsyn’s teaspoon and that it gives us the taste of an ocean of people which the imperial propaganda machine is trying to hide from us.
Here is how this person explained to me the motive behind the writing of this letter:
Earlier this month I wrote an e-mail to the Russian Embassy in Germany. I thought I’d share it. It isn’t much, but I felt I need to send out some peaceful “signals”. Our leaders are completely controlled by the US agenda. They do not take the calls for deescalation and peace serious, and many in Germany speak out for that. I find it incredibly sad how our country is a hostage of the US. No idea how we can ever get out of that strangle hold.
Does it make sense to write such personal letters?
I strongly believe that it does. First, it will be read by somebody in the Russian diplomatic corps and that somebody is most definitely in need of moral support in these times of rabid russophobia. Second, Russian diplomats understand that for one person who put pen to paper there will be one hundred who did not, but who feel likewise. But third, and that is most important, this person freed himself from the burden of passive collaboration, of being a silent accomplice of what is being done in his name. That kind of soul-cleansing immensely profits the person who performs it. Most of us do not have the power to really affect the outcome of what takes place around us, nevermind changing the course of history, but we do have the power to refuse to let the “system” (for lack of a better word) survive through us. That individual refusal to support the system is what brought down the Soviet Union and which, I strongly believe, will bring down the AngloZionist Empire.

Translation of the original letter (written in German):
Dear Sirs and Madams,
In consideration of the ever increasing tensions between Germany and Russia, I would like to apologize for the behavior of our government. Right from the start I was assailed by a very bad feeling due to occurrences in the Ukraine. I am a German and also a US citizen and feel great shame for the foreign policies of both Nations. To me, just like to many Russian people, it is unfathomable that Germany and the United States would openly support Fascists in the Ukraine and that our political leaders can not be dissuaded from doing so. There are more and more attempts at making Russia seem like the guilty party on the world’s stage, which is another thing troubling me. One is forced to conclude that certain influential circles in „the West“ intend to provoke an armed conflict with Russia, a cause for great concern. It is my hope that things will not go that far, since Germany would certainly be at the center of events. Hopefully people in Russia are aware that the majority of Germans do not want a war with Russia and that many people here are increasingly disillusioned with the policies of our Government, NATO and of the United States. The outrage is growing. The words and deeds of our Chancellor drive home the fact of the US’s predominance also in Germany. Surely you can imagine that it is painful for me to say such things, since I was born in the United States and therefore have ties to the country and the people. Peace and understanding between peoples have greater personal meaning than blind patriotism and nationalism though. And it is clear to see that Germany needs strong and positive ties with Russia. Whether the US leaders will realize that is doubtful. I can only question the rationality of some American officials. In the past days I have voiced my opinion on some social networks, including the page of the German Secretary of State. Unfortunately I was blocked there, as many others who voiced their criticism. Apparently political leaders here in Germany, have abandoned the public’s opinions, the same can be said of the media here. It has turned out to be the worst propaganda in a long time and is reminiscent of the days before World War II. Hopefully the tensions will decrease, instead of rising further. And I hope that President Putin will continue to act in a level-headed manner. I can not help but call Merkel’s and Obama’s behavior insane.
I would appreciate if you could forward this mail to the correct recipients. Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
XXX
NATO & EU is two headed hydra, the world needs to cut it off, which one first?
Or both together?
Great! Courageous, straightforward, deeply honest. These words exactly convey my thoughts and emotions as well.
Perhaps I should consider writing a similar letter on my own.

Actually, the West has always been violently insane; its “ethos” being greed, cruelty, and a sense of entitlement to other peoples’ labour output and natural resources. This is exactly what the EU elections — however farcical — demonstrated with brown and blue right-wing populist parties making substantial gains in several countries. Yes, there is anger and frustration among these parties’ electorates against “the system”, but the problem is that they’re NOT protesting against imperialist war-mongering and other manifestations of all-out corpirate lawlessness. They used to be ardent believers in “the system” and its infantile, neoliberal garbage but now that their formerly deeply revered betters keep treating them with ever more boldness, bluntness, and outright contempt, the White trash in the West turns to overt fascism for consolation, just like a bunch of madly jealous lovers. In short, they’re asking for more of the same from “the system”; only insisting on being granted a bigger share of the spoils of Western imperialism, immigrants be damned.
Now that the West’s economic deterioration has entered its terminal phase, both the ruling imperialist bourgeoisie and its grovelling domestic subjects across the West are going totally bonkers, trying to bring down Russia and China to stay afloat.
Unfortunately, Donetsk rebellion shall be crushed as Putin betrayed them.
I sense in the vitriolic comments about the new Indian PM, Modi, that he is a wildcard that the “west” does not trust. Can you place his election, and possible foreign policy alliances, into the effort to encircle Russia? What do we know of him? India may be key in breaking the back of this onslaught, or at least in forcing the empire to adopt a more conciliatory tone until the mask slips yet again. In any event India could provide Russia with much needed breathing space depending on their foreign policy orientation. So Saker, an article on “The Meaning of Modi” would be most appreciated.

In response to an Anonymous users request to do an article on the new Indian PM, I respond that I believe that it is too early to do such a thing.
Background:
Indian PM Modi is an extremely intelligent man with a reputation for being very focused, disciplined and efficient. He has been accused of being anti-Mulsim due to riots that broke out in his home state after Salafist terrorists trained by MI6 and the Pakistani ISI burned 59 Hindu women and children alive by locking them in a parked train carriage and then setting the carriage on fire (if this reminds you of Odessa, it should because the same intelligence agencies and players were involved). This resulted in retaliatory violence by Hindu civilians that lead to 1000 Muslims being killed in riots. The Western media, like a well oilled machine, placed the full blame of the riots on Modi within in minutes of the 1st stages of the riots. Modi claims he was blind-sided by the massacre of 59 women and children and that he reacted as quickly as possible to try and regain control of a situation that had engulfef the entire state. A judicial inquiry lead by his poitical enemies eventually cleared him of any wrong doing as well as the Supreme court. Despite the hacks at the BBC and MSNBC labelling him anti muslim, he received 85-90% of the Shia Muslim vote of India, negating the typical lies emanating from British media that he is anti-Muslim.
It is true that he makes no secret of his intention to crush Salafist/Wahabist inspired Islamic terrorism, but that would make him as antiIslamic as Putin. He has expressed extreme anger at the way the people of Syria are being treated and butchered by European sponsored terrorists; so much for the BBC assertion that he is anti Muslim.
I think it’s too early for Saker or anyone else to make a judgement/article on Modi, he needs to be in power for at least 12 months for us to see which way he leans: maintaining an independent foreign policy or kowtowing to Neocon themes.
It will be interesting to see if he will rapidly ramp up military R&D efforts with Russia on several strategic projects between the two powers: the PAK-FA, the nuclear SSBN, the next generation of the Brahmos hypersonic sea skimming cruise missile, etc, etc,
Criticism of Modi by the Anglo-Saxon media has suddenly become very muted; a 180 degree turn from the vicious slander and propaganda directed against him by the lie-making machine of the BBC and other Western propaganda outlets. Is that because they’re afraid he’ll settle scores with them? (he’s known to hold people to account for their malicious actions) or it because he’s been compromised and the West feel they have some leverage on him?
Only 1 year ago those idiots in the US State Department publicly banned Modi from traveling to the US, citing their ‘sensitivities’ and ‘deep concern’ for human rights (while they are busy slaughtering innocent people in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Ukraine, etc.). Now, the man they banned like war criminal is the leader of the second largest nation on Earth, and these same group of hysterical idiots in the State Dept find themselves issuing a grovelling invitation from Barack Obama himself for Modi to visit the Whitehouse. Could this administration exhibit any greater level of incompetence?
Or is it that they think they’ve got a handle on the man?
Only time will tell.
In anycase the subject of Ukraine is more important than focussing on Modi, we may be witnessing the ‘Waterloo’ of EU expansion as Putin firmly checks the totalitarian EUROcrats of Brussels.
Your words about the benefit to one’s self in taking an action, however seemingly ineffectual, are so true. I shall not forget the letter I wrote to the French Embassy in Washington in appreciation of Jacques Chirac’s principled stand against the Iraqi invasion. Those were the days of French-bashing, when Chirac stood tall. Writing that letter (not nearly as eloquent as the one you posted) was one of the best things I’ve done. Thank you for the reminder.
As for Putin betraying Donetsk, there was nothing to betray. They have hardly stood up for themselves reducing one of the leaders of the rebellion to beg for assistance. How can Putin defend those who are unwilling to defend themselves. It’s not as if the junta was an military machine so the barest organization and commitment would have presented a formidable challenge to Kiev. They couldn’t even muster that. Do people with no desire to save themselves deserve to be saved from an outside power. Yes it would be the right and moral thing to do but surely these people bear some responsibility for their own survival. Their apathy is why the state has been co-opted by oligarchs who rob them blind; and now attack them so that they can continue their robbery. Surely, Putin can not be asked to save them from their own helplessness.
Putin has not only betrayed the Donbass but he has backstabbed Russia by making sure that in future no one will trust in Russia,s alliance when rusdia can betray even ethnic Russians.
Seeing the above questions about Modi I am tempted to ask about the impact of the recent EU elections. The people seem to be backing away from the EU project, albeit slowly, and the elite are virtually hysterical to “keep the rabble in line”. Does the election results cause the elite to ramp up their project as Mr Valls suggested or to beat a strategic retreat? I tend to think they are in for a dime, in for a dollar now and they are trying to beat the clock. The economic news is uniformly depressing and threatens to get even worse. Without a dramatic change in the trend an economic implosion looms. I think this is why the elite are so pigheadedly rushing along with this program. They see the writing on the wall and time is not on their side.
I believe it is only when we take the action of speaking out against the propaganda / myth promoted by the empire that we become and remain free. It is not enough to simply think our own thoughts or hold our own opinions – that too is part of the lie. We must verbalize it; in writing or in words – even if only to ourselves. In so doing we no longer drift in the land of opinion; we take a stance, we speak truth – verbal anchors that keep us from being drifted into apathy, disillusionment and confusion.
May we all follow the author with such direct and yet profound statements of our own.
Quite a thoughtful letter. Is a link to the original German text available?
I’m tired of the daily moral evasions of the Anonymice.
The full argument seems to be: my government is inflicting massive violence on the Ukrainians, and I’m not going to do a thing about it, so to ease my conscience I will
(a) blame the Ukrainians for not acquiring the skills of resistance which I so conspicuously lack, or
(b) blame Putin for not filling the void left by my lack of influence on my own government’s interference, or
(c) loftily invoke a trial at the Hague for our leaders (knowing full well that they set up the ICC to justify their imperial aggression in the first place).
Who are they fooling? What good do they do?
I am from Brussels, geographically speaking…only.
I think that if all peoples would stop falling for the typical horizontal trap, left vs right or East vs West, we could all bundle our cross border efforts into the vertical plane… Us against those who oppress us, those who send us off to wars to kill our brothers for the sake of the profits of our masters!
