I am delighted to announce that I have been contacted by the editors of the new website Russia Insider and that I have accepted their offer to collaborate with them. I did agree to this not only because I knew several of the excellent contributors to this project, but also because I truly believe that it is a much needed, timely and very important project (please see Russia Insider’s “About” page for more details and background)
Check out today’s CrossTalk where the Editor in Chief of Russia Insider, Charles Bausman, is one of the guests:
A very good project, with very good people doing something very important – how could I refuse?! I gratefully accepted.
I strongly believe that bringing the true story about modern Russia is crucial, especially for the English speaking world. At a time when everything Russian is demonized and some crazy, but powerful, maniacs are dreaming about yet another war (Cold or Hot) against Russia, it is absolutely crucial to deconstruct the warmongering anti-Russian propaganda and to replace it with a much more complex and nuanced understanding of the true Russia, not the fictional Land of Mordor the Neocons are trying to portray.
There have been many conflicts between the West and Russia in the past, but for the first time, in the age of the Internet, we – in the West and in Russia – have the means to stop the current one and to prevent it from turning into yet another a full-scale continental war. We need to fight that “information war” and we need to win it.
Please help us fight this war and contribute in any way you can: first and foremost, spread the word about Russia Insider on the social media, post links to the Russia Insider homepage on your blogs and websites, subscribe to the Russia Insider YouTube channel, subscribe to the newsletter (on the homepage), help us organize a crowdfunding for the site or join our community of contributors. Last, but not least, sign up for the RSS feed and make sure to check the Russia Insider website at least once a day.
I am absolutely delighted and honored to be associated with this project which I believe will become a key player on the international scene.
Kind regards,
The Saker
High Cost of Bad Journalism on Ukraine
September 22, 2014
Exclusive: By driving a wedge between President Obama and President Putin over Ukraine, America’s neocons and the mainstream media can hope for more “shock and awe” in the Mideast, but the U.S. taxpayers are footing the bill, including $1 trillion more on nuclear weapons, writes Robert Parry.

Report from Strelkov: “[Sad] news for Donetsk–last Saturday, in a restaurant in Moscow, sixty people were celebrating victory. They were led by Surkov. On behalf of the DPR, Boroday, Zakharchenko, and Purgin had a great time there.”
“”Порадую” немного дончан – в минувшую субботу в Москве, в ресторане, “праздновали победу” 60 человек во главе с Сурковым. От ДНР “гуляли” Бородай, Захарченко и Пургин.
Confirmed (by Mozgovoy and others): The Supreme Soviet of the DPR initially unanimously voted down the Minsk memorandum. Then, the secession was quickly reconvened, and Kalashnikovs were added for moral support to the ambiance. Under these new convincing and appeasing arguments, a new thinking prevailed, and the Supreme Soviet changed its mind, as Moscow requested. Everything is fine, and everyone should stay calm.
The West has been outsmarted again, and the secret plan both confirms and refutes inscrutable Divine Providence by its own inscrutableness. The junta has been yet again defeated, and those who worried are simply not as smart as the rest of us who always think the same.
As Dmitry Medvedev said the whole point of all this is to trust the government and its NWO partners and hope that this confidence will be converted soon into making more money for oneself.
Richard Bronicky, a volunteer with the Army of Novorossiya, from Slovakia:
“When there were wars in Yugoslavia in the 1990s, I just watched and did nothing, and I don’t feel proud about that. This time I decided that I cannot stand aside and that fascism has to be stopped. I quit my job as a truck driver, which paid 2,000 Euro a month, and came here to Donetsk to defend the people from the junta. Our Slovak journalists and TV don’t tell the truth about what is happening in Ukraine. I had to get my information from independent sources. Now I cannot return to Slovakia. People who join foreign military forces are punishable with 30 years of prison, and, now under the EU, I would be considered a terrorist, which carries a sentence of lifetime imprisonment. But I am Slav, and Slavs are brothers.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAONqwOlur4
The Minsk Protocol and the Minsk Memorandum treat the Donetsk and Lugansk referenda as non-existent and the same with Novorossiya.
Poroshenko/Kiev, whom Moscow saved from defeat at Minsk, announced Ukraine’s new military doctrine which will declare Russia the enemy.
Putin Is Getting Most Of What He Wants In Ukraine.
That is why European officials were in despair when news of the delay emerged from the three-way talks between Ukraine, Russia and European Union. “It is Munich 1938,” one said. Yet Ukraine did not have much choice. Russia threatened the renewal of military action and a complete economic blockade if Ukraine did not postpone implementation.

What the Brazilian commenter above posted is simply stunning.
In Brazil, a freaking BRICS country, the vast majority, an overwhelming majority, of people believe the western narrative on the “Ukrainian crisis”.
And that is a BRICS country for crying out loud.
That is why I think The Saker is way too optimistic over this whole thing.
Never forget how powerful and demonic those people are.
Saker,
congratulations! the Russia Insider site looks very good, and I started my subscription to their Youtube channel.
While everyone else was watching the Crosstalk video, I was enjoying the parody of the Kiezsa pop song that I found while browsing the new Russia Insider!
I suppose I ought to get serious now and go watch the Crosstalk video.
Congratulations to all with the launch of Russia Insider- it’s looking very good indeed. I’ve bookmarked it and will be following it as it develops.
I’ll chime in my agreement with some of the other readers here- Saker, don’t spread yourself too thin. We don’t want you to get overworked. The Vineyard needs you, and we need the Vineyard. There is no substitute for the Saker’s own domain.
I also admired your portrait in the Russia Insider contributors section- I guess you’ll be soaring over there from time to time, but always coming home to the Vineyard to roost?

Wikipedia says he was at Institute for policy studies as visiting fellow in 1980s.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Policy_Studies indictaes that the neocons and such are not happy with it at all (see ‘criticisms’), and there are some decent people there.
I like what Parenti has said (has a number of videos and articles on the web), and as a professor, he can back it up with facts and history. He also rants more skillfully than Mike Malloy (grin), and can tell a good story.

@Hollande,
Hollande is a Sayan and France became what Edouard Drumont has dreamt for her! (in his nightmares).
A great CrossTalk.
The pleasant lady in Moscow was a bit timid perhaps; however, on the other “end of the spectrum” was that pushy alleged professor in DC sporting a goatee (sorry, myself a US academic, I haven’t even heard of his university…), an irrational idiot simply parroting a State Department line. The host Peter Lavelle was excellent – as always. However, I was truly impressed by Charles Bausman, who I saw for the first time, by his calm perceptive logic and thorough command of facts.
And for dessert, I enjoyed Bausman’s comment pertaining to the two silly US State Department spokeswomen – “absolute laughing stocks in the professional community around the world” (~22′ 25” in the video) … “and Kerry does not have the brains to pull them off and put someone serious up there … they are like adolescents …”… :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) …
@Brazil,
Obviously Brazil is a weak brick of the BRICS and it very likely that it will be knocked of the wall.
I think Russians are aware of that and are prepared for the contingency. What they cannot afford to lose is India.
The Russia Insider site looks like a great project. I’m not familiar with many of the writers, but those I am familiar with I think have provided excellent commentary and analysis, so I’m looking forward to reading up on what is written there.
One would think it amazing that neocon chinbeard on the RT show was a college professor, but it’s not. The pathetic sod is rather typical of what has been happening to American “higher” education since the raygun bum bandit “revolution” of the 80’s, that continues to this day. The thing is all part of the dumbing down project to convert people to robotic corporate slaves. Garbage in – garbage out.

@Daniel
Add to that list the biggest whopper of ’em all… “That’s a good question………….”
—
When a guest says in an interview”that’s a good question” that signifies to the guest that the interviewer just asked a question that was unexpected.
Saying “that’s a good question” is another placeholder where the guest is scrambling for a cogent response to the unexpected interviewer comment or insights
My greatest moment in radio was getting a “that’s a good question” from Howard Zinn
It’s not that you are trying to “gotcha” your guest but so many of these authors and pundits get served such fawning sycophantic or predictable questions from interviewers that when someone asks something on point but unexpected it makes them more engaged and that makes for a better dialog than lobbing softballs and aping platitudes
It’s why Peter Lavelle is so good and Charlie Rose so bad as interviewers
PS I have interviewed Ray McGovern several times until my radio station cancelled political interviews when they hired a Clear Channel hack Station Manager

The US State Department has become a ship of fools. Its actions and policies are indefensible, which is why no-one “serious” is assigned as spokesperson.
“Ship of Fools”
Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia (first performed 1974)
Went to see the captain
strangest I could find
Layed my proposition down
Layed it on the line;
I won’t slave for beggar’s pay
likewise gold and jewels
but I would slave to learn the way
to sink your ship of fools
Ship of fools
on a cruel sea
Ship of fools
sail away from me
It was later than I thought
when I first believed you
now I cannot share your laughter
Ship of Fools
Saw your first ship sink and drown
from rocking of the boat
and all that could not sink or swim
was just left there to float
I won’t leave you drifting down
but woah it makes me wild
with thirty years upon my head
to have you call me child
Ship of fools …
The bottles stand as empty
as they were filled before
Time there was and plenty
but from that cup no more
Though I could not caution all I yet may warn a few:
Don’t lend your hand to raise no flag
atop no ship of fools
Ship of fools …
At Zerohedge they mentioned capital controls, will we see Kolomoisky and Akhmetov smuggle money out?
Did I read here or elsewhere that Putin threatened to nationalize Count Chocula’s massive holdings in Russia to ensure a better attitude over the “ceasefire”?
David Chu said…22 September, 2014 18:34
“This CrossTalk show was one of the worst ones ever. That Russian woman in NY should learn to speak English before she talks on TV. Inside Russia needs better communicators as well.”
I noticed several others made similar comments, I picked yours out of convenience, but this applies to the others, as well.
Not every one is good at public speaking and debate. Many, probably most writers fail at it. It’s a completely different situation to write something at ones own pace, more or less in private, than to try and verbally do the same thing, pressed for time and in front of many people.
The problem is that many people who are good at public speaking, debates, etc. are mostly bullshitters and propagandists – salesmen good at polishing a turd. It’s their job. Finding people who are both informed, excellent writers and good speakers is unusual, so it’s mostly the bullshitters one finds in these shows and debates. Besides, the ZPC/NWO insists upon bullshitters who speak well, it’s how they sell their hell to the rest of us.

Absolutely remarkable the observation about the infantilisation of the MSM. In fact it reflects an infantilisation of all aspects of society (it is in fact the second childhood, senile dementia).
Thanks to weak Putin, the Us and co are bombing Syria..
When you show weakness once…I told you the West only respect force and pretty does not care about ‘international law’..
But ok Putin go ahead with ‘our friends and partners’…
This is the end in sight for Gazprom?
As the broad coalition crumbled, it appears Washington decided there was no time to waste:

*U.S. USING FIGHTERS, BOMBERS, TOMAHAWKS TO ATTACK ISIS

I’d like to echo some of the comments about Charles Bausman -he appears to be brilliant and I’ll be visiting his website as often as I can.
Right now I’m rea
lly interested to know what steps will be undertaken by the Russian government to counter the latest assault on Syria by the US.
Saker,
Did you see Strelkov’s latest, attacking Surkov?
http://wintersodom.tumblr.com/post/98172775167/as-its-usual-nowadays-bad-news-from-strelkov
He says everything Surkov touches “turns to high class liquid sh-t” – it’s a real quote! He really hates Surkov,.
Hi Saker !
Wow, that’s a hard Crosstalk to watch… “Richard” was a surprise for Peter maybe…being a kind of a troll for US foreign policy…but he also was slurring his words, as though drunk.
It was interesting watching Peter deal with that.
I liked what Charles said. especially about the maturity of media and political representatives now in USA…immature….
I think this immaturity of Americans is not only in the media and political representation…many North Americans never seem to grow up and education is a major cause of this.
The term “redneck” is a common name for this type of American. The meaning of this term is a farm boy, who is always out in the field and gets a red neck…but now its a term that means someone with very narrow views who is impossible to change. The type of person who likes nothing better than to go out an shoot wild animals.
Its the manifestation of what in Ukraine is Nazism…
The mid-west USA and mid-westeren Canada are full of these guys, and these are the people who populate the armed forces…
I’ve been to trailer parks in the USA where the whole trailer park is US army folk and they are all “rednecks”. Very poorly educated and very small minded about anything that’s not American. Kowing nothing and I do mean nothing about European culture and having absolutely no interest in anything except red meat, and their own kids and sports.
HI Saker !
I agree with Where Wolf at 21:00.
I wish you would spend your time here on the Vinesaker and with your family.
The person who corrected the article by you a couple of days ago can correct your wonderful precious spelling and then you can just send your articles over to Russian Insider…
You belong here and with your family.
That’s my 2cnts.
USA and Gulf States bombing ISIS/ISIL in Syria. This is BS. Did Russia and Putin sell out Syria like NovoRussia? The USA and ZATO will go after Syria now. Sickening. Putin should have given Syria S-300s to defend itself. If Putin sold out Syria then he is part of the New World Order.
The Russophobic hatred and the hatred of Putin in particular is truly deranged. One, of course, expects rank hypocrisy and double-talk from the parasites who control the West and its sordid MSM sewer, but over Putin the sheer hysteria is remarkable. Methinks that somewhere in the oily miasma of their psyches they fear Putin very much, because he is becoming, through no intention of his own, a global symbol of resistance to the greatest force for Evil in human history, the Real Evil Empire of the West, or Pepe Escobar’s ‘Empire of Chaos’ if you prefer.
Petar, Crosstalk is clever in that they invite on Imperial droogs who, when faced by cogent arguments exposing their agit-prop (a situation that never happens in the Western MSM paradise of Groupthink anymore)very frequently ‘spit the dummy’ as we say, and begin performing like the mad-men that they are. There is no capacity in Western elites anymore to argue their case. They believe themselves semi-Divine and disagreement is heresy, to which they react like all fundamentalists-with inchoate rage.

Anonymous, 00.54, Brazil is the BRICS weak-link. It looks like the Imperial plant, Silva, may win the election, in which case Brazil will return to Papa in Mordor on the Potomac. A Pentecostalist zealot and enemy of Cuba, from what little we know of her so far, can hardly do otherwise. Alternatively, if she proved recalcitrant, her weakness as a political figure just about guarantees Mordor’s real preference-a military junta.
Google, like Farcebook is a prime Zionazi control project. I find Google’s interest and investment in robotics quite sinister. A sort of private chimera part Mossad, part NSA, part DARPA is being created.
@Anon 19:17
Are the misspellings deliberate or is just plain illiteracy?
I like the discussion style in this CrossTalk of your partner. But what I really dislike is the offense of the maker of CrossTalk. It’s not really brilliant to follow a given discussion line and shutdown every counter arguments or counter propaganda directly.
I would like to see more facts which encounters the “enemies” position instead of shutdown this guy. It’s so easy to place these arguments in short if you are well prepared.
I was wondering in the last CrossTalks about the common sense there without any counter position.
Because this gives the impression that you are clearly biased in terms of not open minded.
It’s ok to shutdown propaganda if you proofe in short that this *is* propaganda. But you have to show the proof in my opinion what you really could do.
Congratulations Saker! I hope you will thrive, and attract a wide audience.
About the crosstalk itself, I didn’t like it.
Elena Branson has a very poor English and Richard Krickus, yes said things which were obviously wrong, but was cut most ungraciously by Peter Lavelle and it became unsupportable.
TR
DEPOPULATION. There is a serious agenda and the agenda is depopulation. Russia was very loud, Putin that is, in reminding how many Russians were mass slaughtered by Stalin.
1990s Russia got stabbed in the back, the rug pulled out from beneath and bets taken on which way the fall, poor Mother Russia.
But, the low population has Russia standing real tall, China doesn’t get the tall in the front of the choir placement. Too many people.
War Theater is the New World Order in reality and the countries are all in.
Just shuffling in the digital criminal fraud called “money” and then of course all the other kinds of depopulation deals.
Watch the undercurrent of depopulation, Vanga the Russian Seer is well worth studying.
Great news about the Russia Insider work. But I’m not sure what will be left to report on.From what I’m seeing messages on, the oligarchs have totally won in Moscow. They have sold out Novorossii. The commanders have been ordered to remove Novorossii insignia from their uniforms. And the Moscow appointed stooge political leaders have forbidden them to form a unified military command. The better for the Ukrainians to crush resistance when they move back in.Its all out to see if anyone is looking. They’ll try to hide it as much as possible from the Russian people. For fear of the righteous backlash that will come once they find out the sell-out.But I guess until they rise themselves and throw the oligarchs out there is no salvation for Russia.I hoped that Putin was different. But once again a leader sells out his people. He may if they let him last out his term until 2018.But I doubt it.
..
Charles Bausman is very smooth and presentable.
he’s an agribusiness investor and consultant. agribusiness is not a happy story. there are no ag education references listed in his background.
the articles in Russia Insider are all simple and short. every contributor is an “expert” in a list of fields. the quality of the writing is more or less Reader’s Digest… WAY short of say, Rolling Stone.
look it up. this is a smug, elemental PR machine.

..
I got a question for all the Israeli haters.. I wont say Zionists because I dont hate anyone as such, I hate events.. I will accept events in circumstances. Although I personally will not do evil as such but I have lived long enough to know we have to do evil to survive and sometimes we have to do evil for the greater good. No one who is beyond evil can reach beyond survival in this world because that is the world we live in. If you live in a city, I think you already do enough evil to not be able to throw stones at anyone else and the difference is only in intensity..
So.. as I said in a previous post, the population of the middle east are mostly immigrants but they wont accept the Palestinians who are supposedly their own kind. Qatar alone has an immigrant population of 2 million enough to take in all the population of Gaza..
There are so many refuge camps all over the place that after 70 years are still refuge camps! Why cant these countries assimilate the people in these camps? They have the same culture, same language and even inter marry.
If other countries can assimilate large numbers of people into their infra structure, why cant countries that use such a large number of foreigners not accept their own kind?
This would be like Russia keeping the Ukrainian refugees in interment camps until they can be herded back into Ukraine. Which I think most people here will not accept as being a solution.
Remember, the land was ruled by the Ottoman Empire before and the land was leased to the people to work. So none of the Palestinians living there owns any of the land, they hold a lease on it. Which is also why Israel wont pay for the land. Although if it comes down to it I am sure they will pay to resettle the people.
Instead we have the entire world spending huge amounts of money building stuff for a large prison which gets demolished over and over and over and all the yelling and screaming and on on and on and on.
500 Palestinians just drowned when the boat they were in trying to escape sank because the smugglers did not get paid enough. Mostly likely Egyptians..
All this land and no one will raise a finger to help the victims.. But they all act as victims. And use the victims as an excuse.
Jordan is the only country to do anything and that was because they did not have a choice but they stopped that now when they gained enough guns to shoot anyone else coming over. Majority of the population of Jordan are Palestinians anyway.
This is like democracy in Hong Kong.. No one was interested in democracy when the British ruled it. But when the going gets good, they want democracy..
Israel accepted Jews from all over, Pakistan accented Muslims from all over and India accepted Hindus from all over.. And if India can accept 40 mil people into its jungles and live under trees, the richest countries on the planet cant accept like 5 mil people but keeps the hatred going when they have almost 20 mil people from all over the world working there.
Doesn’t matter what Israel’s intentions are now.. They were willing to pay and work for a place to live before. But the Arabs are not willing to let go of the hate. There is no difference between the politicians of Ukraine and the Arab ruling class including Egypt. They are so afraid of not have someone evil to point their fingers at, they are afraid their own population will start to think and prosper and want.. Democracy..
ps.. Hey wait until I post my thoughts of the anglo-zionists are the saviors of humanity.. Maybe they are the ones who have learnt from history.. While we think of only ourselves and the food in front of us.
Alien Tech
Thanks for the humorous start to the day!
“500 Palestinians just drowned when the boat”
No mention of what they were escaping from and why, I note. So what were they escaping from and why?
“Israel accepted Jews from all over”
Yet secular Jews in Israel are leaving in droves. The most favored location is Berlin. Imagine that, Jews preferring Germany over their so-called refuge from anti-semitism. This is one reason why Israel and its agents raise false claims of rising anti-semitism outside Israel. It needs to overcome the ‘demographic time bomb’.
etc, etc, ad nauseum
You make it by been crystall clear, stay in that modus and we will follow.
And dont for the sake of credibility and accountability, come close to sites as AJ and so on, fringes that is there for One reason, to diversify the truth into div. compartments, aka Fake moonlandings, alien civilisations and so on, funny to read about, but no where near the issues we talk about, since they cross the line sett by the ZioNazis and the NeoCons and so on.
They are there to destroy any kind of credibility, depsite the cause, the AJ site is there exacptly for that reason, a shit magnet, as I define them and I rearly go there unless I am directe there, since sometimes, even AJ is spott on.
Their sites are like a stunningly good looking woman and after a couple of drinks things getts hott, and when she then states she have sevear Gnorrea, and do you then, say No, even if you know this will hurt you.
hehe
I like this site for the massive amount of info it gives, and somehow have manage to be credible thrue out this period of havoc and a massive amount of propaganda and flatout lies.
I want a site that is clear, where debates are base on a level of knowledge rearly found in the idiot bunch running the rotten to the core Western MSM, and inputts given from a range of angles, incl the Russians. I am to old to trust anyone, but I am wise anouf to apriciate the diveretys in the debates and informations given, its not about saying anyting negative about Russia, but as the uSSa, they arent clear anouf for me, to be in the line in some issues, but I always realises later on that despite their influx in some areas, they remain insykc with the ZioNazis perseptions regading the rest, as the insane AGWs, policys, where depopulation politics and so on are the main basiss.
Take a lok at the Monetary policys, as one ex.
Thats why I label them as 90%.
And the second is, thrue all this years, sites like this is becomed rearer and rearer, and I as one, knows that the world, getts its news from the main sattelit channels, witch incl CNN, BBC, Fox news, SKY and so on, and in a reality where people acctually belive anything they persive, its become difficould to hammer thrue their perseptions, with is spoonfeed thrue the MSM.
And a warning, lone wolfs dont lastfor long in the real world, the pack is everything, even among wolfs.
And dont be afraid to write loooooong articles, sometime you have to take a vide range of issues and then wrapp it inot a article, to give a wider pickture of whatever situation that is intended to be described.
I enjoy reading, and its not often when I am use to speedreadings, that I have to slow down, but your site is an exeption, educative and is able to give a range of inputts.
Ceap it in this modus and you will gain even more.
And the layout is briliantly simple.
peace

Yesterday we heard that Russia is strangling the revolution in Novorossiya. Today we hear that the US is bombing Syria. What is the response of the Russian Federation? Where are the sanctions on the EU? Why the Minsk betrayal? Where are the S400s for Syria and Iran? If Russia is the front line of anti-imperialist resistance, a much harder line must be drawn and time is running out.
@ Alien Tech,
The Apartheid State just killed 400 Palestinian kids and 80% of the Apartheid State’s population cheered that slaughter on.

Yeah yeah, clap clap. I’m sorry to spoil your party, but very soon there will be nothing to comment about Russian history, because the USA and Israel are drowning Russia’s policy and economy in the Middle East.
I fear unfortunately Putin is not better than Medvedev, only difference Medvedev has betrayed two countries, Libia and Iran, at the moment Putin betrayed only Syria, but he has time to equalize the score in Iran.
Large announcements, amazing military exercises, but at the end, Russian policy is suitable for rats: stole a bit of Ukraine, a chunk of cheese and run. Russia is only a thief that steals wallets on the subway.
Dear The Saker,
Congratulations :). Wonderful news. I have checked out the site and will do so everyday.
Looks like the lunatics have just gone ahead and bombed Syria…. :(.
Rgds,

I really hope Putin and Russia have been practising intense diplomacy with the likes of Stoltenberg & Juncker.
If these guys can come out and move back towards the Centre, there could well be an opportunity there for Russia & Putin to win Europe back to their side.
If Putin can win the ear of these two, Putin’s strategy of not entering into military conflict in Ukraine will have been fully justified.
If Russia & Putin fail to do this, his policy will likely backfire.
Stoltenberg assumes the position of NATO Secretary-General next week and I for one will be very very interested to heard what his first public statements as NATO Secretary-General are about Syria & Ukraine in particular.
Hallo dear Saker!
I am working at a company with a very strict Internet access conditions.
The “Russia Insider” web page can not be accessed because of insufficiently filled out form of the web page (URL Category is unknown or none; change it to “news” or something appropriate).
Please let them know this.
Many other pages are not accessible also by other people, because of this new kind of phony security reasons.

I’ve been busy recently, there are too many comments to wade through, so if this is already covered, my apologies: Does anybody have any good prognostication of the likelihood of another major Ukrainian assault this fall ? I know they were assembling large forces along the general Mariupol-Slavyansk line before the cease fire began taking hold. As a layman, it seems to me their only window of opportunity is from the end of NATO land and sea exercises, roughly this weekend, until the rasputisa mud season sets in around the middle of October, after which movement is difficult. Although the mud freezes in early November, by mid November there’s deep snow all over. Donetsk averages 8 days of snow in November, 13 of rain. Volgograd (Stalingrad), on the same latitude a 100 miles or so west, averages 9 days of snow and 12 of rain in November, almost the same, and we all know how that turned out. Is major fighting likely over for the year ?
Also as a layman, if they were foolish enough to attack, it seems to me a good tactic would be to let them through easily midway between Donetsk and Lugansk, were they often attack anyway, then seal the gap, trapping them against the Russian border, as the French were trapped at Sedan. (The southern cauldron of course was similar, from a different direction.) The urban areas of Donetsk and Lugansk would seem to offer almost impenetrable obstacles to any breakout attempt, if the gaps between and around them were sealed. (Speaking as a layman of course.)
Indeed, it very much seems that NR and Russia are taking all the blows and doing nothing with regards to them but speeding the detachment from EUA and preparing for war. But Glazyev who was purported to helm the Central Bank is not there but even not proposing capital controls essential to wartime but only a tax to unpropifiate capital flights.
Or Strelkov is lying, or a real betrayal has occurred. As for simulacra in the infowar, as the means to management, it appears that there is less than the needed ambiguity and paradox and more of setting a very pessimistic mood in the family front, which is pathetic in view of the unrelentless agression of the other side. It is NOT true that the Russian media is doing a good job in exposing the atrocities that day after day POWs now liberated are denouncing. Btw, the EUA is playing again the carrot for Russia to surrender and then things will return to business as usual.
Things here need time for Le Pen come to power and the industrialists in Germany to kick out Frau Stogiee, Catalonia to secess, etc.
Russia is NOT being assertive and slapped again for denying Assad the missile defence system.
So it very much seems that but for the pivoting to Asia, and building the multipolar world, Russia is doing a very poor TACTICAL job at least with regards to the West.
As for Stoltenberg, the PM of Norway, who played into the game of conceiling the truth on the intellectual and field agents of the terror attack on Oslo who claimed was a Breivik, it is anyone’s guess that he will do any better in relation to Russia. Norway is completely dominated by USAians.
Correction to my recent post: Volgograd is east of Donetsk of course, not west. Typed before I thought.
Thanks, Saker for the heads up re
http://russia-insider.com/en ;
i laughed and laughed at Peter “The Lion Tamer” Lavelle’s utter fury with Richard Krickus. Peter is quite wonderful so it was hilarious to see him that discomfited, and he got no help from poor Eleana who kept losing the plot.
w/some reflection, i wondered if those two had not been chosen to make Mr. Charles Bausman sparkle like a diamond. and he did. what an elegant and elite person to have come over and come public.
you’ll be in good company, Saker.
beware the warmongers.

“Cheese eating surrender monkeys!
I’ll never get tired of sayin’ it.”
Years ago, 2001-4, that was a favourite expression of some far righties on the old Guardian talkboard. Anybody who didn’t toe the zionazi line was a “cheese eating surrender monkey” to these earlier versions of the “Putin bashers” that are seen here now.
And speaking of the old Guardian talkboard…

“I got a question for all the Israeli haters…”
Figured as much. I was wondering when you were going to make “the switch” since you people always do it as part of that old hasbara routine sooner or later.

Bravo Saker!!! Good things happens to good people! Serbia stays with you against this Anglo Zionist filthy war on our Russian and Ukrainian brothers. God gives you good health and strength to proceed strongest then ever!
@Vanga the Russian Seer….
Was Bulgarian!
OMG if the Russians want to reclaim her doesn’t that mean that they want to remake the Soviet Union? In many Western minds all former Communist countries of Eastern Europe were part of the USSR!
Now i do understand better why Finnish Broadcasting Radio (YLE) has collapsed almost totally during the last 4-5 years: lack of money. Gone are all those objective reports and great studies. Now the level is becoming terrible low and all what matters is twits, clicks ….making news more like horror movie.
Looks like the Dark Ages of western media have come. That’s why i nowadays seldom follow mainstream media at all.
Same Russian propoganda for the same Russian money.
