THE UNITED STATES PROVOKES AN ESCALATION IN THE EAST OF UKRAINE
The press Bureau of the SVR of Russia reports that recently Washington officials have been actively intimidating the world community by allegedly preparing Russia for “aggression” against Ukraine. According to incoming data, the US State Department through diplomatic channels brings to its allies and partners absolutely false information about the concentration of forces on the territory of our country for a military invasion of Ukraine. The Americans paint a terrible picture of how hordes of Russian tanks will begin to crush Ukrainian cities, convince them that they have some “reliable information” about such intentions of Russia.
It is surprising with what speed a previously quite respectable foreign ministry turns into a mouthpiece of false propaganda.
These fabrications, however, are not as harmless as it may seem. The quote attributed to the Minister of Propaganda of Hitler’s Germany, Joseph Goebbels, reads: “The more monstrous the lie, the more willing the crowd is to believe in it.” Of course, this line fits into the anti-Russian course of the West. We are much more concerned about the fact that such aggressive propaganda encourages the Kiev regime to build up its military grouping in the Donbas and resume shelling of civilian objects. There is data on the creeping advance of Ukrainian positions deep into the so-called gray zone along the demarcation line, as well as the concentration of forces and means of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the border areas with Russia and Belarus. The United States and its allies continue to pump Ukraine with weapons, encourage the use of delivered means of destruction, including strike unmanned aerial systems, in order to carry out military provocations.
The provocative policy of the United States and the European Union, which deliberately strengthens Kiev’s sense of permissiveness and impunity, causes extreme concern. We observed a similar situation in Georgia on the eve of the events of 2008. Then M. Saakashvili “broke loose” and tried to destroy Russian peacekeepers and the civilian population of South Ossetia. It cost him dearly.

In the run-up to the 2022 Beijing (winter) Olympics the West is:
*Defaming and demonising China and Russia

This time will Ukrainian forces do better than Georgian forces?
No! It will do exactly the same as Georgian forces! It will lose! And lose a big time!
Definition of insanity:
”doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
But yes, the different results would be an even greater debacle than the Georgian adventure.
This is an advantage and an opportunity for Russia, not a problem. The problem will be economic. The West stole what it could, Ukraine is economically destroyed. That is what interested the oligarchy but Russia can also profit from it. It can control it by future russian influence and developments. It will take a time, but it can be profitable if there is a will. Why? On long term Debts will be written off all over the world, one world currency is coming. In reality, Putin will be given the opportunity to rebuild part of the USSR. On the other hand, enough energy pipes have been made to Europe that escalation in the Middle East is now allowed. If Russia abstains in the Middle East, the AIPAC influence will be stronger on the Anglo-Americans to let the ukrainian part down. And they will leave it in the worst possible condition they can.
“This time will Ukrainian forces do better than Georgian forces” ? Probably not. The military is a personification of a countries population. The population in Ukraine is demoralized and impoverished. Before Yanukovich was overthrown by that coup d’etat in 2014, Ukraine had a population of 50 million people. Analysts are now not sure if the population is 36 million or 25 million, as millions have emigrated (by December of 2017, 4.4 million emigrated to Russia !). What is the morale of the current Ukrainian military ? High ? Unlikely. We are dealing with conscript troops, many having no desire to be in the military in the first place.
Yes, the West is boosting the Ukrainian military with high tech. Will this make much difference to entrenched Russian troops and equipment in the Donbass. Unlikely.
Zelensky and the Ukrainian military are proxy fighters. They exist to be sacrificed. The bulk of the Ukrainian population regrets the coup d’etat of 2014. If Ukraine is pushed into war, then we can expect the risk of the country breaking up. I am not sure if the West fully understands this, or if it does, it probably does not care. As Kissinger stated, “being an enemy of the US is dangerous, being a friend is lethal”.
Ukraine believes the west has it’s back. This has been reinforced by the diaspora who tell Kiev don’t worry we have the situation covered in Canada and the US. It does not matter what you do we can blame Russia. We have these fools ready to invade if necessary but right now you can walk on water. Nothing could be further from the truth. The west will only use Ukraine as long as it cost them little. Russia on the other hand has given it’s last handout to Ukraine. The Norstream project is Europe’s last chance to get reliable gas and Ukraine is not part of that picture and is soon to loose the current transit fees. We are close approaching the disintegration of Ukraine. In less than a decade this unfortunate nation will most likely disappear. Al this over some stale cookies.
These past few days I’ve been reading lots of articles on the Internet about the possible upcoming Russia-Ukraine war. All of them are written from the perspective of American involvement, of what’s at stake for the US, and what are the potential consequences of America’s involvement in this potential upcoming war.
To my surprise, a pretty fair number of the articles are written sensibly. By this I mean the authors of the articles are warning American and NATO leaders to take Putin’s redlines seriously. Further, many of these articles have a tone and tenor that seems to acknowledge, and to some degree even respect (if begrudgingly so) Russia’s legitimate existential interests in connection with this conflict.
The articles I’m referring to all carry a common message: that for the US, it may be high time to wake up and try to resolve the Ukraine conflict on terms acceptable to Russia. The articles are implying that the US and EU will have to twist the Ukie government’s arm and make it carry through with its obligations as mandated under Minsk II, something the Ukies have been loathe to do. That’s the only way to avoid war, according to the authors of these articles.
This is a pleasant surprise for me. That’s because, for the past seven years, almost all of the articles written in Western media have just echoed the nauseating US State Department, Atlantic Alliance, and Ukie government official propaganda.
Now, I’m not saying that the insane, “death to Russia at any cost” articles are not predominating in number on the Internet and in Western press. Those propaganda pieces are still the majority of all articles, editorials, and analyses published in Western media. But, sure enough, as of late, there’s been a growing number of articles taking the opposite point of view, or which at the very least urge caution on the part of the US and its Atlantic Alliance allies.
Maybe it all goes to show that it’s getting close to “high noon” time in the former USSR. Cool Hand Putin is looking like the “fastest draw in the East” and his opponents may be starting to end their bluffs, lest they have to pay the consequences.
To my surprise, a pretty fair number of the articles are written sensibly.
There sure seems to be an anti-war party out there too.
But the US oil lobby desperately needs to shut down Russia from the EU markets.
They are amongst the main ones pushing for “max stakes short of actual war”
Hence all it takes is a mistake.
I might write something about that in the coming days.
Cheers
On top of the oil lobby, as with all wars where US engage, very little to no damage has been inflicted on US territory and citizens. The brunt of the burden will fall on the EU with damaged territories, industry, economy and death. US has very little incentive to actually not start a war that is simmering along here in EU.
Remember: NATO = keep Russia out and EU down.
Also I am not sure that Russia will actually bomb decision centres in Brussels and Washington in case of war in Ukraine to stop the madness. That will only trigger more madness.
Having reinstated Evil Matriarch Albright, Satan spawn if there ever was one, globalists are doubling down. Albright with her freshly transplanted Serb organs harvested by her Albanian minions refuses to fade into the horizon. Instead, she wants to go down in history as the woman (if she is still one) who pushed the world over the brink. Blood of the innocent spilled by this evil woman and her friend Hitlery Clinton is measured in hectolitres.
The problem these Nazis have is that once they spend up Catholic and Muslim Nazis of the Northern, Central and South-Eastern Europe and Turkey (which is a couple of days of non-stop bombardments of the frontline AND the rear), the globalists are left with drag queens and gays of US and EU against the Russian wolves of the steppe, Chinese seas of soldiers and North Korean tigers.
Thank you my friend for youre comment I very much agree.
” Blood of the innocent spilled by this evil woman and her friend Hitlery Clinton is measured in hectolitres.”
Literally tons of blood 5-6 liters in a grown body, there is only 1000liter in a cubic kiloliter.
Someone more morbid then me can do the math😳my heart breaks even thinking about checking the average amount of blood in kids and youths to do this math.
I could not agree more about albright.
She is directly responsible for rivers of human blood, immeasurable amount of human suffering, thousands of dead children, physical deviations caused by the depleted uranium (DU) used by her United Satan airforce in Serb part of Bosnia, Serbia and Iraq as well as an explosion of cases of lethal types of cancer caused by the DU. The only ones more responsible than Albright are the current quislings in power in Serbia who deny the link between the DU spilled there and the increase of cases of cancer. They allow foreign agents to literally come on TV and with a straight face lie how DU is beneficial to human health.
Her hatred towards Serbs is legendary. Once she was confronted by a Czech patriot in Prague who accused her of genocide agains Serbs. She retorted slyly to the patriot: “You scumbag Serb.” I believe there is a video on YT of it. What’s curios about her is that she and her family were saved by Serbs during WWII.
“she and her family were saved by Serbs during WWII” – no good deed goes unpunished. Now you’re saving many more Afghans, Syrians, Pakistanis, Iraqis. Be careful!
SVR Chief Naryshkin met with CIA Director Burns recently.
Clearly, the US is deaf or had a very bad translator on their side. For the SVR to issue this warning is part of the legal position Russia is formulating for when the “war” begins.
Today General Gerasimov and General Milley spoke on their deconfliction phone line.
Yesterday, Shoigu spoke about the US practicing bombing and cruise missile attacks in the East.
So, the containment attempts to ring Russia with all US military assets is well documented by the Russians.
Why the West wants to look down the barrel of the Russian military can only be assigned to the category of historic stupidity. The US has nothing to gain and will lose NATO and much of its European and Asian-based assets. And it the territory of Russia is touched by an attack, the US will lose continental US command centers, too. And likely, its energy grid and energy infrastructure will be gone.
Whatever their operational plans are, the West had better build in an off-ramp at 20 minutes into their war. If it persists beyond that mark, a global catastrophe will ensue.
The Russians are doing everything they can to prevent war, and in the interim, everything to delay the war.
This is a tactic, not a strategy. Their strategy is to destroy their enemies top to bottom, everywhere they may be (and as Putin said in the Second Chechen War, ‘we’ll kill them in the shitter, too’.)
europe is economically and financially imploding now and will likely not survive through end of 2022 without radical financial changes. the ecb has no more options to keep things status quo. since things in the eu are so desperate now a winter war is just fine since winning is not part of the plan anyway. ONLY alter the direction of public blame from the eu elites to the kremlin elites
perhaps the western elites have decided they have to have this war to deflect the off the charts public anger directed directly at them when the eu and ecb implodes. they think it will easier to blame the russians and sell that to their populations.
a war will be a simple misdirection of public anger rightly aimed at western elites now aimed towards russia.
@tedrichard,
They are going to get a 2021 war, not a little 2008 Georgia war. Russia, if attacked, will destroy a significant part of the West.
I don’t know how anyone can think if Russia rolls, it will be a manageable war for the US/NATO and its vassals.
I think you are right in your analysis, but the Russians are not going to stop at the contact zone in Donbass. Ukraine will be gone and Europe will be dismantled like an asteroid hit them.
One of the comments on the previous Saker’s post was quite astute – this person had described the West’s mental state as one of fossilized thinking – after the centuries of constant aggression towards Russia, it has now been cast in stone, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is going to change that! Starting another war with Russia has been their constant wet dream ever since the end of WWII. In the 90s they thought they had at last destroyed it, only to discover that, like a phoenix, Russia rose from the ashes. Since then it has been an absolute obsession with them to launch that war on Russia. Russian President has so far outplayed them on every turn and not just that, has build Russian military and defence to quite spectacular levels! THAT fact, unfortunately is not yet sinking in those fossilized brains, or whatever passes for it, so unfortunately we WILL be having another world war. But here I would like to point something out that lots of people fail to grasp – that war will be short and swift and the result will actually be extremely desirable – the world at last will rid itself of this cancerous parasitic evil that has plaqued it for centuries. Once and for all. I believe that should be a cause to re-joice. Sure, there will be casualties but most of them will be in Eastern and Western Europe, as Russian President stated, Russia will never fight another war on it’s territory ever again! And these EUropeans will get absolutely what they deserve, once again. Especially these who have been slavishly and pathetically licking AZ boots and displaying hysterical Russophobia. If West, in it’s stupidity, arrogance and hubris decides to escalate, meaning nuclear, all Russia has to do is to aim couple of these retaliatory strikes with nuclear armed missiles somewhere strategic, including USA, where civilian damage will be minimal but it will totally decapitate the command and control centres. Russia stated as such. So, I would not panic and live if fear – all this might be nessessary to cleanse ourselves from this cancer that is hell-bent on destroying our human race.
Frankly, I don’t see any other way.
“that war will be short and swift and the result will actually be extremely desirable ”
I have my doubts here, this is exactly what my family ( in Germany and in Belgium) thought before WWI.
That war was not short at all, everybody got hurt and it lead straight towards WWII.
The only good war is the one that is avoided IMHO.
There is another important parallel, Jefke: the British and the Americans tricked Germany and Austria into WW1. They set out to destroy them as industrial and military powers; it took two wars and 30 years, but in the end they succeeded.
“The Kaiser had enjoyed the reputation of a peacemaker:
“‘Now… he is acclaimed everywhere as the greatest factor for peace that our time can show. It was he, we hear, who again and again threw the weight of his dominating personality, backed by the greatest military organisation in the world – an organisation built up by himself – into the balance for peace whenever war clouds gathered over Europe. (‘William II, King of Prussia and German Emperor, Kaiser 25 years a ruler, hailed as chief peacemaker’, New York Times, 8 June, 1913).
“A former US President, William Howard Taft, said of him: ‘The truth of history requires the verdict that, considering the critically important part which has been his among the nations, he has been, for the last quarter of a century, the single greatest force in the practical maintenance of peace in the world’. That is some tribute! In 1960 a BBC centenary tribute to the Kaiser was permitted to say: ‘Emphasis was placed on his love of England and his deep attachment to Queen Victoria’, his grandmother.
“A lover of peace… skilled diplomat… deep attachment to Queen Victoria… so remind me what the Great War was for, that took nine million lives?”…
“On the night of 30-31 of July, feeling entrapped by a seemingly inevitable march of events, Kaiser Wilhelm mused…
“‘Frivolity and weakness are going to plunge the world into the most frightful war of which the ultimate object is the overthrow of Germany. For I no longer doubt that England, Russia and France have agreed among themselves – knowing that our treaty obligations compel us to support Austria – to use the Austro-Serb conflict as a pretext for waging a war of annihilation against us… A magnificent achievement, which even those for whom it means disaster are bound to admire’”.
“To quote from Bertrand Russell’s autobiography: ‘I had noticed during previous years how carefully Sir Edward Grey lied in order to prevent the public from knowing the methods by which he was committing us to the support of France in the event of war’”.
– “How Britain Initiated both World Wars”, Nick Kollerstrom
To Jefke
Things have changed BIG TIME since the WWI! Get in with the times! Regards. : )
Dear Katerina,
there is no need for me to be nostalgic about the world around WWI, or to think that nothing changed since then. We usually refer to history to compare actual events. It’s not uncommon, here on Saker’s blog, to talk about Napoleon, who launched a massive invasion in 1812.
As a Belgian (living in France now), having a German mother I was since my childhood impressed by both world wars and I tried to understand the origins of all this evil even before the age of fourteen. I played in old bunkers, who were situated less than 500 meters from my house. I remember the huge bunkers on the beach of Zeebrugge, where I loved to swim, those bunkers were removed much later. Zeebrugge was the place of a very bloody episode between British and German forces, they still commemorate it. A small museum was close to the old wall, showing details and (for me as a child) huge sea mines. My dad showed me the trenches close to Ieper and the associated museum, my brothers and me liked to play war in it. We were very impressed visiting a bit further , in France, the huge bunkers where “Dicke Bertha”, a monster howitzer, and its follow-up “K5 Leopold (283 mm), used by Hitler, were stationed to shoot across the channel. They were later used on 7 June 1942 against the fortress of Sevastopol.
I studied the history of WWII and the rise of Hitler very early and gave a lecture in my school in Brugge about a book I read in German “So weit die füße tragen”, about a German soldier who managed to escape a Siberian camp and took three years to come home in Germany. I was 13-14 years old. My grandparents, who owned a small hotel in Brugge had to keep German soldiers, and later British soldiers. My grandfather told me the first young German soldiers did not know there was a channel and thought they could walk to England. He was, as a young man, already taken during WWI by the Germans because he approached the border with The Netherlands (neutral during WWI) by curiosity and was sent to work in a German farm. He used to listen to the BBC during the German occupation, until a German soldier warned him to be more careful (death penalty).
I recently learned that during the same period, one of my beloved German family-members was actually the secretary of the German officer responsible for Brugge, while my German grandmother’s sister was a famous Opera singer in Köln, having to sing during WWII in Vienna and Antwerpen.
She took her life when American soldiers took the town in April 1945.
I had a lot of time to think about all this since my childhood.
Why do we believe that a war will be short, that “a good war is necessary” or what would have been our choices, living during the Nazi-period: “wirr haben es nicht gewüsst” or “Weiße Rose”?
Even if time has changed since 1914, we, as humans did not change and history shows us that a lot of surprises, which can completely change the course of a war, can happen.
The mighty army of der Kaiser did not expect, while fighting the Belgian army around Nieuwpoort-Diksmuide, having already taken probably 99% of the country, that a brave civilian water supervisor, Karel Cogge, between 25 and 27 of October 1914, would find the solution to inundate the region and be able to stop the German advance for 4 years, since they created a lake of 15 km long and 4 km large in the polders.
We should remember the soldiers, with flowers in their guns, walking excited for the short war to come, in Great Brittan and Germany.
Today I have the same uneasy feeling as in 2003, just before the Iraq war, when, between some lectures that I gave in the region of Ieper, I went to visit the graveyards of both sides around Passendale.
Katerina, good day and my respects. There is perhaps another way, if all other options have failed and we finally face total destruction. How about President Putin appeals directly to the American people, not the murderers in command of the tyranny. How about President Putin speaks heartfelt to the American people as brothers and sisters, to find the courage to overthrow their despotic leadership causing all of this, offering the people the support of Russian forces to take down the rotten satanic infrastructure. If there is no other way, surely there is no shame in this? I guess that many Americans would much rather have President Putin as their leader than the sham establishment and cabal firmly entrenched in power now, a cabal clearly intent on the genocide of whites (the majority) in America.
To A.S.K
My dear, I so want to join you in that sentiment! Unfortunately, only a very small percentage of Americans will hear him. Most are beyond of any comprehension – decades of most assidious brainwashing will play it’s part. Sad, but true. I feel so much compassion for those few switched-on Americans – living in that country, being surrounded by abject ignorance, stupidity and derangement must be absolutely unbearable for anyone with still functional brains! That is why many of them are trying to leave that God forsaken place. Same goes for Europe. Somehow I do no see them rising against absolute tyranny in sufficient enough numbers to overthrow that tyranny. They would need external help here, without any doubt, and Russia can provide that help, by destroying that cancerous global clusterf**k that has established itself throughout the most of our world and now is killing it!
@Katerina who, on November 24 6:55pm wrote
Noble Katerina,
Maybe the upcoming summit(if there is one)between Putin and biden will be an opportunity for Putin to address the “west” not to go down the warpath. I too ache with compassion for the good Americans who will terminally suffer because of foolish leadership in d.c. and e.u. capitols.
With tv cameras broadcasting live from the summit meeting, Putin can deliver a diplomatic message that will be understood by every tom, dick, harry, mary, louise, and helen out there. Perhaps I’m too mistaken in believing that western ears will even get a chance to see and hear such a message to them…
Respectfully yours,
Tikhon
Genocide of whites??? Your joking right?
Its about money!!! Racial tensions are but a smoke screen.
You make perfect sense. A taste of war should shock some sense into the retards running the West. Russia will exercise the Samson option if it needs to, but will not leave its riches to the AZ thieves.
“And it the territory of Russia is touched by an attack, the US will lose continental US command centers, too. And likely, its energy grid and energy infrastructure will be gone.”
And that should be pointed out over and over again. I would add assets of Western oligarchy to the list, as they are the real driving force. I firmly believe that destruction of super-yachts would stop War in an instant, much faster than sinking all carrier groups.
All Persian Gulf Refineries and pipelines would be gone in an hour too. When that happens, Biden’s tap into strategic oil reserves to counter “I did that!” campaign won’t look like smart move.
Iran is perfectly aware that in the case of Russian defeat, torrent of Israeli nukes will rain on their country.
In fact, all of the western vassals are in the the same position. It is highly likely that many overzealous parties could appear all over the world to join US destruction fest. It is common behavior among all primates to collectively beat to a pulp overly aggressive, evil alpha male at the first opportunity.
Humans evolved above other species as individuals, as a group not so much.
To Blackring
There will never be a “Russian defeat”! Read the history. That country has NEVER been defeated. It is still intact, still sovereign, still nuclear-armed (the best and most advanced in the world) and still a SUPERPOWER, despite several attempts to conquer it by various deranged and delusional aggressors. So, forget that premise.
Let me rephrase my point. No-one will sit and wait for the outcome of the clash, as everybody are sick&tired of deranged and delusional aggressor. You do understand what is the stake? Iranians surely do.
Russians didn’t beat every single aggressor by being overconfident before war, but by being aware of horrors that awaits, yet stand firmly in front of (overconfident) attackers. To win, you must anticipate all possible ways of defeat, and avoid them.
To Blackring
It never has been in Russian’s nature to “anticipate defeat” – most wars Russia had to fight were for SURVIVAL! Defeat was not an option. Something that people in the West do not and could never understand.
Also, what was that supposed to mean – Iranians surely understand what is at stake – are you suggesting that Russians do not?!!
There’s a cancer in the Ukraine. Radiation therapy required.
Check out this data from the Chicago Council Surveys. A recent poll found that the majority of Americans now believe that, if Russia goes to war with Ukraine, then the United States should wage war against Russia. I’m not kidding. Check this link for more info.
https://twitter.com/MarkAmesExiled/status/1462754704656683010
Can you believe this? It just goes to show that the average American is hopelessly brainwashed about Russia related issues. All the anti-Russian rhetoric, lies and propaganda have confused Americans so severely that they can’t even perceive the dangers of nuclear war anymore.
I’m surprised by the results of the Chicago Council Surveys poll, but not too surprised. I’ve known for a long time that most Americans don’t realize the Ukraine conflict is taking place on Russia’s borders, and that it involves the latter’s existential national interests, including security and sovereignty. Lots of Americans are foolish enough not to understand that this conflict has nothing to do with America’s vital national interests, and that the United States’s involvement in Ukraine is an act of imperial overreach. Ukraine, after all, is all the way on the other side of the globe relative to America.
The American people simply don’t comprehend what’s going on. Russia is waging this conflict to ensure that the world’s hegemon, the United States, is not permitted to use Ukraine as forward bastion from which to project military, geopolitical, and geostrategic influence against the Russian homeland. Therefore, Russia is cornered by the US and it cannot back down. The United States, by contrast, has nothing important at stake in Ukraine, and will almost certainly back down if confronted by the threat of war with nuclear equipped Russia. But apparently that’s too hard for the average American to understand.
More alarming is that the average American fails to perceive that the United States does not have the option of using its overwhelming conventional military might in a war with Russia, especially if that war is waged on the RF’s borders. If America devastates Russia’s land forces in Ukraine, its Crimean bases, and Black Sea defensive structures by using F-35 bombing missions and Tomahawk missile offensives, then Russia will have no choice but to respond by firing tactical nuclear bombs at the NATO land bases and American naval fleets that are the sources of these attacks. That means the NATO military bases and American carrier fleets will be turned to toast within hours. After that, it’s just a question of which side, NATO or Moscow, will be the first to escalate the war by pushing the button that launches nuclear equipped ICBM’s. That means the end for all of us.
This is incredible. If the Chicago Council Surveys results are credible, it shows that the average American has been infantilized with respect to his or her understanding of the consequences of fighting war with Russia. I guess it all goes to prove that American media has succeeded in its quest to stupefy and confuse Americans in order to prepare them for a future possible showdown between Russia and the Atlantic Alliance. This process of insidious brainwashing has been going in US media since at least 2014.
Question about that survey: is that a survey of Chicago residents, or a survey of the entire u.s.? If Chicago only, or the area around Chicago, then it makes sense. So many poles and Ukrainians make up the population there. But if that poll was taken in say Florida, or say California, I would be willing to bet that the result would be entirely different. The u.s. really is that Balkanized.
I’ll further note that one of the authors of the survey and it’s interpretations is none other than the (insert epithet of choice) Ivo Daalder. He’s the president of that organization.
I presume that the survey sample consists of Americans nationwide, and not just from Chicago. Here’s the link to their website, explaining the incredible Ukraine survey results. There’s no caveat anywhere on this page (or on their website) indicating that the poll respondents are limited to people in Chicago.
https://www.thechicagocouncil.org/commentary-and-analysis/blogs/half-americans-support-use-us-troops-defense-ukraine
Something else to keep in mind. In 2014, when the war in Ukraine broke out, some polling agency did a study to ascertain how many Americans could find Ukraine on a map. Incredibly, only 16% of Americans knew where Ukraine is located.
https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukraine-crisis/wheres-ukraine-84-percent-americans-dont-know-survey-says-n84051
So, maybe it’s not so remarkable that anti-Russian liars and propagandists such as David Ignatius, Anne Applebaum, the Kagans, Andrew Weiss, Julia Ioffe, and the entire staff of the Atlantic Council could trick Americans into thinking that Ukraine is literally on the US’s borders.

The State is “governed” by factions. It is adrift. The ideologies and the realities are in conflict, and the next election terrifies the regime. They may see a war as a way to prevent the next election. It probably would do that. The US Constitution is a big problem for the junta, and a big emergency might let them “set aside” the Constitution. Of course, a big emergency might also remove the junta.
They should have started with the “remember the 08.08.08 war” warning, only a few professionals will read it to the end🤷♂️
I can not imagine any gop senator/congressman or demoncrat senator/congresspersons reading more then a few lines b4 entering rah rah mode and denying reality, tbh i believe the same about 99% of their staff.
But then again, the warning would probably set of the same response..
So what do i know, scary no matter what.
Nothing will happen as usual.Fake crisis. But in Brussels negociations on a 15 years contract for the transit of gazprom gas are going on fast.Nobody is talking about it.It is just the usual pressure on Russia.
Neither ukies and even less Western powers will be ready to lose their confortable life, their financial assets etc..
NS2 is just delayed untill Russia is accepting the deal(blackmail) in Brussels. And once signed you will see this issue desappear by miracle.
This is the theory, but other problems may appear for the Kiev junta as more and more people are falling into deep poverty in all regions even in Kiev.Electricity is cut off from Odessa to Galicia two ot three times per day(on rotation). Energy prices are stratospheric, people can’t pay their bills. Hundred of thousand are leaving the country by low cost airlines(which suddenly opended hundreds of flights from all major cities), by trains, by busses. They are buying a fake return ticket as due to free sky/movt treaty between 404 and the EU, they can travel for three months in the EU but NOT work except with a work visa(rare), but of course they stay and work on the black market or ask for refugee status(which includes in richer western country more than 1200 euros/monthly even without doing anything) + free healthcare+ free children allowances etc..
No official number is available of course as the populists and extreme rights political parties are gaining votes en masse, talking about migrants even ‘white’ ukies is taboo.
They will not risk a war, even the most neocons(Blinken, Nuland and all the State Dept). The Pentagon knows what a war, a real one is against Russia, they don’t need to taste it.Warmongers are mainly in the MSM and in the Congress which is 100% corrupted by the MIC.
Brandon will organize in dec, his fake ‘summit for democracy’ with 110 usefull idiots countries(including India).
Thank you. I hope so too.
“NS2 is just delayed untill Russia is accepting the deal(blackmail) in Brussels. And once signed you will see this issue desappear by miracle.”
Why would Russia sign any deal at present gas-price? Delay of NS2 is probably the most profitable event in Gazprom’s history.
Biden and Obama need a kick up the backside.
And this will also involve NATO and the EU elites in their ongoing attack eastward.
Fortunately their plans will fail.
The idiots in charge in the west are looking for a short victorious war in order to deflect the attention of their population from the problems at home, which were neglected for a very long time. And I think they’re idiots for chosing Russia as a target – if history is any indication, all wars waged against Russia are neither short, nor victorious.
A geopolitics of drama:
Russia is beginning to resign itself to the idea that force, and only force, remains the only intelligible language with an Empire which has just mobilized all its means for a decisive and final confrontation with China and Russia.
“Diplomacy with a wolf that only seeks to devour you is totally unintelligible to him. The only language a predator can understand is a sudden strike, brief, violent and devastating enough that it cannot recover or recover for a long time … “, said a Russian source who preferred to remain anonymous.
Moscow has amassed just over 90,000 men and second-line equipment on its western flank to ward off a possible surprise in Ukraine or Belarus. The agitation of the more hawkish factions in Poland and Ukraine is now being encouraged by the Atlantic alliance, which is supplying sophisticated weapons and deploying military units in those countries and the Baltic Republics. The activity of the US and British special services in Moldova is followed by much apprehension in Moscow. Especially since these points of tension coincide with a more than explosive situation in the Caucasus where a resumption of war between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Nagorno Kara-Bagh will remain a lingering possibility for a very long time.
The Empire strikes back in Eastern Europe with the reactivation of the Eastern Front (Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland), the tension in the Black Sea, the powder keg in the Caucasus, in the Middle East where Israel threatens Iran but also in Syria, a bankrupt state where the Russians are present militarily. This first arc is not the only one: another arc extending from the Horn of Africa to the Atlantic coast of West Africa is currently the scene of a confrontation with Russia, which deploys there new tools for geopolitical action within the framework of a pre-emptive extension of a front which has come dangerously close to its sanctuary of Valdai.
Psychological warfare is raging. In cyberspace, it’s the quarry. After the troll wars and intoxication, it’s time for some heavy hitting. France and the United Kingdom, which are waging a strange and particularly atrocious war in Cameroon by arming and financing each of the armed groups on a linguistic basis (French-speaking vs English-speaking), are united against the new asymmetric Russian military threat.
Like Janus, Turkey holds the keys to both worlds in this new confrontation. Ankara delivers attack drones to Ukraine and signs defense agreements with Kiev. At the same time, the Turkish Erdogan and the Russian Putin are consulting and discussing. A discussion between strong men is never easy. The negotiation is tenacious. The Turks monitor Chinese activities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and even inside its territory, but at the same time, they multiply economic agreements with Beijing. Turkey equips Azerbaijan, Morocco and Ukraine with the formidable Bayraktar TB-2 which gives them a current overwhelming superiority over their opponents but at the same time opposes its NATO allies. Especially on points of detail. The dynamics are well oiled.
Tension in the South China Sea is still being maintained. The Strait of Formosa is at the stake of a potential confrontation between China and the United States. Taiwan’s highly aggressive diplomatic counteroffensive is supported by all Western countries. The game of passing ships and overflights can lead to disaster at any time. The joint flights of Russian TU-95MS and Chinese H-6K strategic bombers between Japan and the Korean peninsula were intended to create a symbolic but very talkative diversion towards Washington. For mainland Chinese, the island of Taiwan on which the Chinese nationalists of Chiang-Ai Shek took refuge after the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949 is still an integral part of China. Beijing would have liked to follow a process similar to that of Macao (Hong Kong remains a bad example) to ensure a smooth reunification but the presence of US military forces in and around Taiwan precludes such an approach. For some of the islanders, the fear of the Chinese Communist Party is greater than the desire for a reattachment with the mainland. On the political level, the local political game is reminiscent of certain aspects of Japanese domestic politics where US influence is very difficult to manage.
The world at the end of 2021 has never been so close to complete disintegration. Martial law is decreed everywhere but is not recognized anywhere. The lines between friends and foes have blurred. On the surface, it is a war of all against all. The alliances are however stable. The Great Game has fragmented into a multitude of non-zero-sum games that e taking action would turn into a zero-sum game. It is the stalemate constantly postponed by belligerent enthusiasm. The views of the mind collide and shatter against the rock of reality. In the case of a drama and a war is always both the matrix and the sum of all the dramas, any acting out is disastrous.
The rise of populism and the destruction of the intellect participate in this desire to endure the tragedy continually, like a Sisyphus with his mind plunged into oblivion and raging under the ever-renewed burden. Man not only forgets his past mistakes but wants to repeat them over and over again in a cycle closed by ignorance forever. Hence the criminalization of the universal mind, ancient wisdom and all real science. This is another somewhat more philosophical debate than the question of the new hypersonic orbiters loaded with nuclear warheads that threaten our common horizon.

Interesting. Timely text. Valuable reflection. Necessary approach. Thanks!
Why does Russia even bother to publish these communiqués, like this and the exchange between Lavrov & FR&DE? Nobody in the West read them, especially the media and thereby the people. The US & EU political misleadership don’t take them seriously.

@TurnbullMalcolm
on the concerns of the democratic world:
‘Misinformation and extremism on the American right “led to the attack on the Capitol. That led to an attempted coup,” he said. “The rest of the world looked at January the 6th and was shattered.”
Recall. Malcolm Turnbull was among the foreign leaders Trump called on his first day in the White House. You may recall it’s was globally reported the conversation did not go well, with the yet to be labeled Angry Orange Man being petulant and antagonist. The call ruffled feathers in Oz, so that McCain was dispatched by the US state dept to soothe and console.
Trump knew Australia had been Team Obama, then Team Hillary, having donated $30m to Clinton Global Fund (revisit theconservativetreehouse for 2016-2017-2018 articles on the shell games re Clinton non profits and charities and the HRC DNC election funding)
So here’s Turnbull in Canada 2021, having a snarky dig at Trump and J6….
The vitriol spewing at Halifax seems to have bolstered the group think that action is required regarding Russia….
Scroll through the hashtag and see.
Those comments coming from Anglo American Empire and its imperial strategists increasingly resemble the crazed rantings of an insane asylum.
The “reality” that they live in is one that exists only in their own heads.
Indeed, more countries that the United States and its crime partners–particularly in the Anglosphere like Britain, Canada, or Australia–wage around the world, killing millions of people in the process, the more that the Anglos project their criminality onto their Official Enemies.
It’s not a coincidence that the Anglo Americans are lashing out with such vitriol–as they are trying to overcompensate for the recent humiliation of their colonial occupation troops in Afghanistan; their failure to subjugate Syria in their decade-long dirty war; their failed pacification of Iraq; or their inability to regime change places like Ethiopia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Iran, China (Hong Kong), and of course Russia.
All these failures are driving the Anglo-American/European imperialist powers into a frenzy of rug-chewing frustrated impotency!
Obvious that Russia is alarmed at the developments in eastern Ukraine but who wouldn’t be? RF is dealing with highly deluded persons in the Ukranazi establishment who really believe – egged on by fUKUS/Nato — that they can prevail in armed conflict with RF over the Donbass. They believe that when the going gets tough — which will happen very early should a conflict with RF erupt –, the tough (fUKUS) will get going and come to their aid. FUKUS will get going all right but facing the other way.
I believe the intended audience of this press release by a Russian spy agency is the Ukrainian ‘leadership’; as a warning. It may look like a futile exercise but as VVP said in his speech to RF’s MFA, they must not stop trying to dissuade them from committing a grave (no pun intended) error. Just like dealing with a suicidal person on a ledge of a tall building, one must try to persuade, cajole, the guy from jumping. At the same time of course, one makes sure that he won’t be able to pull one down with him on his trip to eternity.
What can one say or think for the people of Ukraine at this point, whether they are innocent or hellbent on destruction, I don’t know, but there will be a war, and it will shake all nations to the core and how or whether it will extend is another question.
Here’s an pro-American hegemony propaganda piece that’s disguised as an argument which advocates cooperation with Russia. At first glance, you’d think this article is one of the sensible ones that have been appearing in Western media as of late, written by authors that strongly urge the US and its allies to respect Russia’s “redlines” and avoid war. But, unfortunately, when you read the article, it’s easy to see that it’s just American and NATO expansionist hogwash.
The author of this deceitful opinion piece is Kadri Liik, a senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. How do I know that her pseudo-advocacy of tolerance and respect for Russia is just another slippery communication piece that, in truth, denigrates the Russian position and pushes for the US militarization of Ukraine? Simple. Consider the following quotes by Ms. Liik:
“Others hope that Mr. Biden, needing Russia to contain China, will help Russia get its way in Ukraine — either by pressuring President Volodymyr Zelensky to allow Moscow a say over the country’s future decision-making or, better yet, by declaring NATO’s door officially closed to countries like Ukraine. These hopes and fears, equally outlandish, surely lie behind Russia’s current troop movements along Ukraine’s border.”
Note that Ms Liik describes Russia’s redlines on Ukraine as being “outlandish.” Elsewhere in the article, she states, “And with Ukraine, about which the Kremlin has high emotions, unrealistic expectations and irrational fears, there is genuine cause for alarm.”
So, Ms. Liik is arguing that Russia’s existential national interests, related especially to the ultra-important security need of keeping NATO and the US military out of Ukraine, is just “outlandish,” or “highly emotional,” or nothing more than “unrealistic expectations,” and “irrational fears?” My question is, who does this arrogant Western expansionist woman think she is? The attitude of people like Ms Liik is that the West will call the shots as it moves, and change the rules of the world as it sees fit. Never mind the vital national interests of country’s directing threatened by Western foreign policy, such as Russia.
It is getting more and more clear that the US and NATO only understand the language of force. Russia is the world’s second or third strongest military power, and it has the nuclear umbrella – including the capacity to use battlefield sized nukes – to assert itself in any war in Ukraine. The time for Russia to strike is now. The Atlantic Alliance must be driven out of Ukraine immediately, the same it was demolished in Georgia in 2008. Only then will the West see matters in a different light.
No, Putin Isn’t Trying to Bring Down the West
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/23/opinion/russia-putin-west.html
But, unfortunately, when you read the article, it’s easy to see that it’s just American and NATO expansionist hogwash.
Thanks for pointing out this example of slick propaganda. Liik is disingenuous, I’ll give her that. Can’t read the linked article because I don’t have a subscription.
But with respect why would anyone expect anything but hogwash from an outfit like ECFR when it comes to Russia? And published in the NYT?
From Liik’s bio at ECFR:
“Before joining ECFR in October 2012, Liik was the director of the International Centre for Defence Studies in Estonia from 2006 until 2011…”
I don’t think we can expect an Estonian — and a former journalist (who probably helped shape present-day Estonian attitudes towards Russia) to boot — to write something truthful or sincere about Russia. Now, some people will say that quoting the bio is a sort of ad-hominem fallacy — a concept which is, frankly, useful but a bit overrated. I quite often read western publications and I find it is far more productive — and a time saver — to look at both the messenger and the message, in that order; more so in these crazy times we live in.
I agree with everything you say. Liik’s background alone (especially her link to ECFR) tells us she’s all about pro-NATO and anti-Russian propaganda. She’s a lot like the slew of “analysts” and “experts” that produce articles for the Atlantic Council: all of them like professional Russia haters, Ukie Nazis, and fanatical NATO expansionists such as Taras Kuzio, Anders Aslund, Anders Ostlund, and others.
IMO the most insidious, deceitful and dangerous anti-Russian propagandist of all is Anne Applebaum. She may have a syndicated column that’s published in many media outlets, I’m not sure.
Concerning Liik: I failed to check out her creds before posting my comment to this board. If only I had checked her biography up front, I probably would have neglected to read her nauseating article.
To GW
Russia is the FIRST(!) global military power, without equals – not, according to you, “second or third”. People need to get that clear in their heads. It would help them a lot from making big mistakes!
Collaborators (in this case Russians) who sold out and betrayed to the “partners” their orthodox brothers, friends and allies will, as always was the case, end up in the same way: from the dagger of their masters. The ugly, soulless, subhuman Mongolian vermin will soon go to Hell.
Can anyone tell me if all Mongolian are ugly, soulless, subhuman, and vermin? Every single one?
I confess, I don’t know these people, but I do draw a line at this kind of statement.
I find it hilarious that you are casting the blame or ills on this so called “subhuman Mongolian vermin”….
Doesn’t it make you no better than those from the West who had looked eastward, thinking of its people as subhuman?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolia_in_World_War_II
Your so called “vermin” send economic aid and soldiers to USSR/Russia during the Great Patriotic War. You display the same pathetic orientalism of those in the West.
The ugly, soulless, subhuman Mongolian vermin
Did you find that nonsense in an NSDAP schoolbook?
Also
How many Mongolians have you met in your life?
I guess that he is calling russians mongolians.
I do know some mongolians, and they are.generally very warm people.
Russians are an awesome mix of Slavic tribes, Tatars and Asians. And yes, Mongols are extremely warm and kind and will welcome you in their yurts, feed you and cloth you for the weather if needed.
To Marco,
Well, I am born and bred Russian, from St Petersburg and I absolutely do not have any Mongolian apperance, which is usually dark haired, dark eyed people, also very nice, warm and friendly people, as you have pointed out.
On the contrary, I am blonde and blue-eyed. This “Joshua” is either an extremely ignorant twat in his description of Russians or a p*ss-poor troll! : )
@Katerina
I don’t mean any offence, but no matter how much the Russians criticize the brits for their imperialistic ambitions, they secretly admire them and have some kind of bias towards them.
An example is the amount of Russian women who’d want to get married to a brit. I believe that this is some kind of racism coupled with inferiority complex.
To Man With No Name
Well, what can I answer to you in regard to your statement that Russians somehow secretly admire brits. If by brits you meant Scots and Welsh – absolutely! I am married to a Scot and very happily too. For 25 years. When we were on holidays in Wales, I loved sitting in the local pubs there in the evenings and just listening to wonderful welsh language – couldn’t understand a word but just the musical sound of it! No wonder they all love to sing – their language is made for it! Great people. As for the English – I wouldn’t even spit on one if he was on fire. They are the ones that suffer from inferiority complex which explains everything about them. That answers it for you?
The admiring aspect of other cultures is rather subtle, and I do believe that the nuance is not always clear, as for instance, when I lived in Germany and was learning the language, everyone wanted to speak English with me, of course they learn it at school and are very proficient, (though even they make mistakes with their German gramma…) but the point is they were interested and admiring, as I was or am of them and other peoples.
It is the childlike quality, or innocence side of someone’s character that may admire the people of the UK, for instance, qualities that even now are more natural to Slavic and eastern peoples than the west, although for how long is a question.
The wonderful side of travelling and seeing the world is how it broadens the mind, though many cannot, and certainly now of course… There is a saying ‘ignorance is bliss’, but not always as bias blankets the good too.
Actually it is not that much the Russian people but it is rather the Russian “elites” who unhappily live with a deep rooted complex of inferiority in relation to western civilization and culture. The post-Soviet period is not an historical exception but rather a newest incarnation of a historical phenomenon. That is the reason for quite timid, sometimes cowardly and yet on other occasions shameful Russian policies so unmistakably displayed on many occasions in the last three and a half decades. Sometimes it looks like the whole country has been taken for a ride in an absolutely wrong, insane and, as we clearly see today, irrecoverable direction just for the sake of of the very few – the deeply troubled class of (rotten) oligarchy.
That’s another aspect of the picture again, and more realistic as the ‘deeply troubled class’ of the elitists who suffer self hatred, and are not the so called troubled class of the workers but have struck the highest echelons with a new dimension for the concept of what real ‘trouble’ indicates. Many Russian people once so proud of their heritage, culture, just being who they were, are poisoned within from the new ‘troubled class.”
All these are predictable events.
Republicans = Iran and eventually Libya because the Hunt family believes all the oil in Libya rightly belongs to them.
Democrats = Russia. The memories of the bolsheviks and Trotsky are still fresh in the minds of the neoliberal bankers in NYC
The casus belli will be something they can justify to their populace that have been brainwashed by BBC (british brainwashing corp) and NPR (national purgatory radio)
Here’s an extremely reasonable assessment about the looming Russia-Ukraine showdown, including a sound, sensible assessment of how the United States should position itself relative to the crisis. It’s written by Daniel R. Depetris, a fellow at Defense Priorities.
Depetris acknowledges all the basics. He points out that Ukraine is not, and can never be, a vital national interest of the United States. Depetris also reminds his audience that there is zero sense behind the idea of America engaging in any kind of shooting war with nuclear equipped Russia. Most refreshingly, Depetris advocates that the United States should stop arming the Ukies, that it should bluntly remind the Ukies that American military support in a Russia-Ukraine war will not be forthcoming, and that Minsk II absolutely needs to be implemented in order to short circuit the potential for war.
Finally, Depetris bluntly admits what too many American and EU foreign policy hawks never acknowledge: that Ukraine is a vital national interest of Russia’s, and that’s the case for reasons of geography and geostrategic realities, and nothing can or will ever change this fact. In other words, the Kremlin can and will go to war in Ukraine in order to prevent the country from being militarized by Russia’s rivals.
I’m very surprised that Newsweek would publish an opinion piece of this sort. Normally, Newsweek is a mouthpiece for US neocons and NATO expansionists. The usual garbage published by Newsweek (until now at least) has been Nolan Peterson’s gung-ho “lets go to war with Russia” articles or rubbish written by analysts from the Atlantic Council.
https://www.newsweek.com/dont-give-ukraine-us-security-guarantee-opinion-1652728
I think that if Ucraine attacks Russia, Russia may well attack not Ucraine – but the USA. This is not going to work like in Hollywood movies.
Regarding the mention of Joseph Goebbels’ infamous statement on how propaganda works, it is interesting to note that the US must have perfected her propaganda tools significantly since Goebbles spoke these words. Consider this, why would any young American want to join the US military and fight and die for a country that does not give a damn about these young souls? Freedom?… lol. They don’t have health care, no living wage, no access to decent education (unless their parents are rich), live in a country that ranks 28 in international comparison of democracies, live in a country with rampant racism and the highest prison population per capita. Who in their right mind wants to fight and die for such a ….hole country?
“Of course, this line fits into the anti-Russian course of the West”
Please do not conflate the rulers of the West with the ruled of the West, all the citizens of Russia that I have encountered have been warm and friendly people whose English was hundreds of times better than my Russian !!
“The more monstrous the lie, the more willing the crowd is to believe in it.”
……as in the case of The Gulf of Tonkin AND “9/11”.
the war starts, the ukie’s invade the eastern part and russia moves to stop it. the united states stupidly responds at which point russia takes out all american bases in west and east eu,lets throw in brussels for good measure. and let’s not forget the base in turkey and all american navy assets it can find. meanwhile iran ,hezzbola ,iraq and syria know isreal will take advantage of this. so why wait ,attack isreal and all american bases in bahrain, uae, saudia arabia, kewait, all us bases in arab countrys. at the same time china, north korea knowing they are on the list to take out us bases in south korea ,guam and all other assets in the south pacific.south america cuba and the other countrys on the list decide to get rid of the united states assets there. good times for all. have fun folks.
The usual suspects, the same playbook.
