News of the largest bank of Switzerland, Credit Suisse freezing Russian assets of over $1 billion once again has proved that Vladimir Putin was correct. He after all warned businessmen to return their activities to Russian jurisdiction. The Kremlin is not responsible for all of those that didn’t listen. It looks like Donald Trump towards the end of his presidency will be presented with a Russian state medal. For what? It is for his actions which forces the return of capital to Russia.
Here’s fresh news on the topic. “The Swiss bank, Credit Suisse, freezes assets related to Russia that add up to around $5 billion to avoid being under US sanctions.” – says Reuters. “Credit Suisse, whenever it works, is cooperating with international regulators to ensure implementing sanctions, in this case, sanctions against Russia” – explained the representative of the bank.
By the way, two more Swiss banks, UBS and Julius Baer, also expressed their readiness to implement the American decision of sanctions against Russia. What’s true is that these banks refused to tell about whether they froze the assets of certain Russians or not. I’ll remind you that this news falls on our heads almost on a daily basis. For example, a few days earlier, representatives of the US Department of Treasury said that there were hits taken on assets of Viktor Vekselberg and Oleg Deripaska.
“Russian billionaire, Viktor Vekselberg lost $3 billion from the sanctions, his status decreased from $16.4 billion in April of this year to 13.5 billion dollars in July. This is said in the report of the US Deputy Secretary of Treasury, Sigal Mandelker, who spoke with him about it on the banking committee of Tuesday, August 21.
Vekselberg’s group “Renova”, due to restrictive measures was forced to separate with part of their assets in Switzerland and Italy. By getting caught under sanctions, billionaire Oleg Deripaska, according to estimates of the US Treasury, has lost about half of his fortune.”
Vekselberg’s group “Renova” denies that they lost money. Deripaska is just being quiet. However, independent from that, did they have enough time to put their money further away from the invisible hand of the US Treasury? It adds up to one thing. They’ll have to return their assets to Russian jurisdiction.
At least on the specially created offshore zones in the Kaliningrad region and straight. There’s simply no other options. If the US was able to even reach Switzerland, which was sometimes considered best for anonymous deposits, then why should they even consider other countries?
Now all Russian businessmen deal with the smart and wealthy people as before. And the same thing with the stupid and disagreeable poorer rich people. Because only a very stupid person can believe the possibility to agree with the Gopnik [lower class petty criminal] in possession of their wallet.
“You can take from this stash of my banknotes, but don’t touch that one over there, because I need it myself.” Negotiation won’t work. The Americans will take everything they can reach, this isn’t their first time. And coming up for a reason is actually the easiest thing to do.
Even our outstanding fabler [Ivan] Krylov talked about it: “You are indeed guilty for me being hungry.” The sanctions war of the US with the whole world is unwinding. That means their hunger with each day is only going to increase.
Exactly; the law of unintended consequences.
Those who criticise Putin for not taking a more muscular approach (although that could easily change) forget Napoleaon’s dictum: “don’t interrupt the enemy when he is making a mistake”.
cdivision
It was actually Sun Tzu, the Chinese military strategist and writer, who said that, and not Napoleon. However, your point is taken.
That quote is widely attributed to Napoleon. A search of the internet trying to find if Sun Tsu said it first found no evidence of that.
Hardly unintended. The fully merged Russian oligarchy and state are partners with the US-centric Rockefeller-Kochs.
Credit Suisse is a Rothschild bank, a group owning perhaps 40% of all recorded wealth on earth and mortal enemies of Donald Trump, not to mention Russia.
Each of these three oligarch-gangster families work on their own objectives, using so -called ‘unintended consequences’ to further their interests wherever they can.
Agree with you that the Russian oligarchy (plus Putin) is partner with the Rockefeller, although it is highly likely that there are also powerful Rothschild assets and lobbies in Russia. This may explain some of Putin’s behavior. Lately, Putin’s energy minister met the German and Ukranian ministers for the gas issue and pipeline. Putin seems to be willing to normalize relations with Ukraine. It is quite interesting that this meeting takes place right after the assassination of Zakharenko. US energy minister immediately paid a visit to his Russian counterpart, also warning Russia not to resort using energy as a weapon. It is also likely that Putin plays both those super oligarchic powers at the same time. This may be indicative that Rockefeller does not have total supremacy in Russia. I am also not so sure about associating Koch brothers with Rockefellers as they were in a vicious fight with Trump lately and as far as I know they were supporting Clintons. You are correct to say that most of the European banks are City of London. Furthermore, I don’t think this Ruslan Ostashko guy is correct in his assumptions as all the Russian oligarchy is part of the western club.
I fully agree.
The Yeltsinite oligarchs and KGB Foreign service directorate have always been oriented towards Rothschilds.
GRU is the main Trump White House partner, although the Russian elite currently moves as one under Putin’s mediation/direction.
Where-Wolf
The KGB Foreign Service directorate “always been orientated towards Rothschilds” ? Not easy to accept. By the way, the KGB does not exist any more, being replaced by the Federal Security Service.
Swiss banking for doubtfully acquired funds is so 1930s — 1950s. Russian plutocrats would be best advised set up a discreet “Trust” in either Gibraltar, the Channel Islands, the Caymans or some other British colony, with the help of an establishment UK law firm, and then lodge the funds within 18 shell corporations bearing anodyne names. The transaction may cost 15% but such “uber-discretion” is never cheap.
It goes without saying, no Russian plutocrat should purchase real estate in whatever haven is selected. Given winters in the Motherland, perhaps a damp Channel Island might be best for the “Trust,” with a winter home in the Bahamas — ah the sun, white beaches, emerald sea and fresh grilled fish.
Sadly, the Channel Islands enforces all sanctions agreed on by the EU, UK and OFAC (US). They are therefore not a safe place for Russians to keep their money! The Channel Islands are better regulated and are more “honest” (in terms of financial matters) than the City of London.
Don’t forget that the Channel Islands have also signed up to FATCA/CRS etc so are sharing financial information with the tax authorities of many other countries in relation to their citizens funds so there’s no way to hide.
Basically no Crown Dependancy or Colony is safe – or any other country. The exception may be territories owned/operated by China.
“. . sharing financial information in relation to their citizens’ funds . .”
The special virtue about “City of London Trusts” (not to be confused with London, which is under the jurisdiction of the UK) is that the Bank of England set up a system, after WWII, whereby the UK and other governments would never have access to the owners’ names or nationalities — be these British aristocrats / Italian Opera Tenors / armament and drug dealers etc. The same goes for the many shell companies controlled by the “Trusts.” The money and its owners are stateless.
The discretion among Britain’s elite cast of accountants / lawyers is such that 25% of all the world’s hot money resides in British colony accounts and the elite will ensure that they and their clients are never exposed.
Never British, check Loyal Bank fate.
“…the US was able to even reach Switzerland…”
US = Jewish Mafia asset
Switzerland = Jewish Mafia asset
Credit Suisse = Jewish Mafia asset
UBS = Jewish Mafia asset
Julius Bär = Jewish Mafia asset
Russian Oligarchs = Jewish Mafia asset
This is not rocket science, far from it, but very un-sexy to acknowledge, oh yes.
Looks like a handbag fight among rich Jews. ;-D
“once again has proved that Vladimir Putin was correct.”
Poor poor Mr Vekselberg – at least he needn’t be concerned about dear old Putin making him into a pauper, when will the “Russians” ever learn?
Watering down the pension reform in Russia
The watering-down of the pension reform will not resolve the problem of growing pauperisation, which particularly affects pensioners, who bear the highest cost of rising prices for food and medicine.
In addition, after the changes take effect, pensioners will only be able to supplement their low pensions with additional (usually low-paid) employment after a further five years. Nor is it clear whether the Kremlin’s concessions will stop the fall in support for the government.
They may reduce public willingness to participate in protests against the rise in the retirement age, though. Opinion polls carried out by the Levada Centre on 3 September (before Putin’s statement) indicated that 53% express a willingness to take part in protests, compared to 37% in July.
So a Western troll with the cowardly name of anonymous, is telling how horrible Putin is for raising the retierement age to 65 for men and women is still 60, that’s more generous then here in North America you necon hypocrite and light weight.
Funny thing, but I don’t feel any sorrow that these billionaires lost billions, stolen by the U.S. It’s not that I am envious of a person being successful, provided their success was achieved in an honest and honorable way. But, what are they doing with all this wealth to help others? I mean, how much does one need to live a lavish lifestyle? Even a very comfortable life and never experience want of food or warmth when it is cold? Would I need 15 billion? A billion? How about a million? I think I could do it with that. 500,000? Yupp, no worries for me if I had that kind of money. What an empty life it must be to live a lavish lifestyle and never do a thing for those in need. These people should have kept their money in their own country rather than trying to hide it. Did they really think it would put them in a bind if they had to hand over, say a billion to the Russian government in taxes? Money that could be used to help develop their own country and make like better for their neighbors? It reminds me of the hypocrisy of Bono of U2 who chided other governments for not giving more to the poor while he hid his own money in off shore accounts.
“But, what are they doing with all this wealth to help others?”
The right to decide what to do with preposterous wealth should never have been given to the individual (via state taxation). Putin and his crony capitalist oligarch chums are simply a sad reflection of “the evil empire”.
Such a necon MSM piece of tripe, written in by another troll on under the name of anonymous, crony that fits Western governments to a T there you worthless hypocrite.
Well, anonymous could actually be communist, socialist, or of some other stripe.
This ” preposterous wealth should never have been given to the individual (via state taxation)” and calling Putin a ‘crony capitalist’, does not tell us that anonymous is neocon supporting. Assuming ‘necon’ that you use means neocon. Apologies if you meant something else.
And ‘Mike’, do you provide some link so that we may see your identity? No? If not, you also are anonymous.
If I put Bob, Jim, Dick, Tom, or Harry as my ‘name’, and provide no links, then I am still anonymous.
Perhaps better could be to simply ask “Do you have any proof that Putin is a crony capitalist?” or “Do you have any links supporting what you write, that Putin is a crony capitalist?” rather than resorting to name calling.
signed, anonymous, card carrying non-aligned.
“Do you have any links supporting what you write, that Putin is a crony capitalist?”
Suggestion – use search string “Putin crony capitalism” (copious links available) followed with a dose of your own discretion to read between the lines.
Ssigned anonymous, aligned against the dictatorship of the oligarchy and their minions e.g. ‘Mike’.
Just because a bunch of neocons make that charge against Putin, and just because a rigged outfit like Google returns them as search results does not make a thing true.
If you want crony capitalists, Obama, Hillary, Trump et al are a much better choice.
Aren’t attacks on other commenters prohibited?
Mod: You are correct. The previous post should probably have been trashed (not posted) by a previous moderator. Mods are humans too, not Gods, and sometimes stuff gets by us.
Just because some of us don’t bother to make up a fake name, that doesn’t mean they are a troll.
OK; good point. This should be the end of this argument however. Mods do keep a list of trolls and once someone is on that list, we look at their comments with a special, more critical eye. If in doubt, the comment goes to the Trash. Please, everyone. 1) Keep your comments constructive, and 2) Don’t attack other posters. Thanks!
it’s funny you mentioned Bono – as soon as I started reading your comment – it reminded me of one of the members of U2 I know (not Bono) – I have been surprised for years about how little he does with his wealth to help others – I know his family and they like to pretend he is almost poor. The greed of some people wealthy in money only knows no bounds
I could not care less! Most of these people came from rags into riches in the 90 ties, helpred along by the American restructuring of Russia. They robbed Russia blind, used their positions to steal and loot.
I would give them a Chinese solution : A bullet in the head, 2 minutes after a guilty verdict. These guys are criminals make no mistake, just like their neo con Zionists in Washington, these people need to be bumped of in interst of greater good. The Germans had a good expression: In namen der Vaterland. I like . I revokes images of Roland Freisler making people loose their head. Just what is needed.
In name of Mother Russia.
It really breaks my heart to hear about poor Oleg Deripaska being sanctioned by the great and glorious Russophobic West.
First, Vladimir Putin told him — in no uncertain terms — to sign the document which handed over Deripaska’s grossly mismanaged aluminum plants to the Russian state (Putin: ”Your ambition, incompetence, and avarice /…/ It is utterly unacceptable”). To top it off, Deripaska signed the paper using Putin’s own pen (after an unsuccessful attempt at cheating), and then was asked bluntly by Putin to give the pen back. Must have been a humbling experience…
And now this ”victim of applied Putinism” is being sanctioned by the Western Zionazis?!? They really are doing a Sterling service to Russia. The unavoidable question becomes: Is their Russophobia so pur-blind that they don’t care about their willing 5th columnists? Death to all Russians, no ifs, no buts?
The US and to a lesser degree the UK desperately need fresh assets. As the looting of other states did not turn out overly successful recently, they start to turn on themselves. I suggest to buy enough popcorn and enjoy the show.
The only sad part is that the eventually confiscated riches truly belong(ed) to another state.
”The only sad part is that the eventually confiscated riches truly belong(ed) to another state.”
Very true, Marcel.
It’s incredible, not to say breathtaking, that Putin is getting so much inadvertent help from the West. It really does seem to suggest that the current pack of utter slobs and degenerates running it are the result of amazingly successful Russian meddling!
Deripaska, you’re not letting these lowlives fleece you, eh?
we foreigners have been heavily brainwashed with crap Hollywood movies , fake news etc to think Americans (and Brits) are very wise, honorable etc – especially the so called elites.
Nothing can be further from the truth – most get jobs and money from their equally dumb, corrupt, talentless, dishonorable parents (who also have spent most of their lives kissing ass to their insecure and equally lost and uneducated parents- etc- it’s a hereditary disease)
They also get degrees without even going to university (I know a very famous heiress of one of the wealthiest families in the US who got degree from MIT without ever going to any lectures – I discovered this by accident when I introduced her to a friend who did the same course and was the best student they ever had at that department at MIT) they were supposed to be there at the same time – but he told me he had never seen her there – not even once (but her family gave money for a building there) etc – this is just one fraud I discovered – imagine by accident as a Serb – there must be numerous more examples of uneducated wealthy people with fake degrees.
So the fact that these fake elites are shooting themselves in the foot does not surprise me at all
And those are the Russian “elites”? Protected and still thriving under Putin while probably hundreds of pickpockets are serving jail time as we speak.
In my humble opinion, Putin is a most convincing, highly successful case of ”discreet brutality”, and the Russian Oligarchy understands that it’s better to put a lid on personal greed. The Ukrainian rot doesn’t precisely help Oligarchy anywhere, and the Russophobic West is so terminally insane that even the most treasonous Russians are treated like dirt. Some people do tend to get what they deserve.
Unlike the Russian oligarchs, however, Western ’anti-authoritarians’ are truly hopeless; absolutely incapable of understanding anything not approved by their one and only authority: George Soros. The latter is no friend of Putin’s — explains pretty much everything.
When it comes to Switzerland, it was “neutral” in both world wars. The term “neutral” in this context means that nobody invaded it, being used by all sides during the two conflicts. After the Second World War the US used it massively for dirty work, as a conduit for the transfer of money.
Credit Suisse froze 5 billion dollars in Russian assets. Other banks said they would do the same, but offering no additional details. It’s questionable if they did, as the Swiss are no fools, knowing that times are changing, and looking towards the future.
Keeping your money in a foreign bank is always a risk. A lesson for Russian oligarchs. Quite a number of them have months ago started returning their money back to Russia, compliments of the US. From that point of view, Ruslan Ostashko is indeed correct.
The Swiss have a business, as a capital flight destination/money laundry business. They don’t want to ruin that business. But US wants that business! Kleptocrats from other countries may decide to go elsewhere because of the meddling.
Maybe Russia and or China should set up money laundry business?
Anonymous
Not necessary. Both Russia and China are preparing to introduce gold backed currencies, which will, of course, be in high demand.
”Keeping your money in a foreign bank is always a risk. A lesson for Russian oligarchs. Quite a number of them have months ago started returning their money back to Russia”
Russian Oligarchs and Western banksters — a fall-out among thieves writ large. Given the West’s total animosity towards anything Russian, Vladimir Putin could bluntly enact even harsher restrictions on the Oligarchs’ entitlement to their Russian assets. The Oligarchs are not really wanted anywhere, so they had better comply while they still have some wealth at their disposal.
I presume these idiots are not holding their vast reserves of cash in dollars!!!!.. Now That would take the cake! Next after they bring their loot back to Russia—let them do something useful, memorial or creative with it. But that may be too much to hope for.
What worries me more is this pattern of intimidation of ordinary ( or seemingly so) Russians who are in the wrong place at the wrong time ( for them) and becoming part of the farce which passes for “news” in the West. By the way, has anyone dredged deeper off the coast of Norway for the Skripals? NO? oh, I see , their 15 minutes of infamy has passed and is of interest no longer for the news cycle which having writ, moves on.
Poor little traitors! When they stashed their stolen money, stolen from the Russian people, they thought the safest thing was to keep it as Euros and Dollars! But the Anglo and their puppets took it anway!- For there is no loyalty among theives. They do not care for Russia, even pro Western russians, at all. Any more than they care about Afgans and Iraqis and Yemeni. Money and Power, and lots of it, thats all Imperialists care about!
Since the American government steals from its own citizens, they of course steal from people from other countries.
One means of stealing from its own citizens is what’s known as “civil forfeiture.” Lets say an American does something illegal while in their car. Something horrible and a crime against humanity such as soliciting a prostitute of buying a joint of marijuana. What the American governments do is seize the vehicle as being used in the commission of a crime.
The part of this that reminds one of Kafka is that this has no connection with a conviction for a crime in a court. The state can decide there is not enough evidence to prosecute and drop all charges. But the car remains the property of the state. The burden now falls on the citizen to go to court and prove that the car was innocent. This of course costs the citizen large bills to overcharging lawyers. The fact that there was no conviction doesn’t return the car to the innocent citizen. The citizen has to prove the negative that the car or other property was not involved in a crime to achieve the rare case of getting it back from the state.
The police keep the proceeds of these forfeitures, often used to fund equipment and programs for the police. Thus they have a large incentive to seize whatever they can possibly get their hands on. And the judges are of course friends of the police, thus the processes of trying to get property back from the police are long and convoluted and highly likely to give a result in favor of the police.
The favorite of the police is to find cash on citizens and claim that its was “drug money.” I ran into this once on the highway between Texas oil fields and Louisiana casinos. Thus, workers taking their paycheck to the casinos for a weekend off of work was likely to have it grabbed by the police, and of course anyone who won at the casinos was likely to have that also taken away.
Seized assets cant be returned to Russia. IMO the US is seeking to prevent the return of these assets which helped fuel asset bubbles from 1993-2008. Much of the stolen loot went through Cyprus and Jersey and ended up in London/US real estate. US and UN fighting Cyprus from cooperating with Putin who is tracing Browders money (just the tip of the iceberg)
The US sanctions give them leverage over Russian oligarchs. Cooperate or lose your assets. They all have UK, US or Israeli passports and wish to enjoy a globalist lifestyle. Putin will always need to treat them as a 5th column in his backyard . They own too much of Russia to kick them all out, but the US has Kompromat on them and can be controlled.
“…specially created offshore zones in the Kaliningrad region and straight.”
I think he said not “straight” (“прямой”), but “Primorye” (“Приморье”).
“Приморский край” – region of Russia around Vladivostok.
