The US –led war campaign against Russia, includes financial warfare. USA has complete dominance of the global financial network. Sanctions were put in place in order to financially asphyxiate Russia and “destroy Vladimir Putin”
Political and Military Analyses

The timing was particular painful as it coincided with the fall in oil prices. The sanctions, however, have backfired in at least two ways:
Unintended consequence #1: Boosting of an emerging global “gold hub”
It is important to note a particularity in the Russian market: Unlike in other countries, Russian gold miners cannot directly sell their gold abroad. A domestic financial institution must be used as an intermediary for Russian gold transactions.
Source: Polyus Gold mining company article in LBMA
VTB Russia’s leading bank (but also SBER bank) absorbs the bulk of this gold, and then sells it on to the Central bank or international bullion banks.
Source: Russian central bank buys up domestic gold output as sanctions bite
VTB is a member of the London Bullion Market Association and also had a diversified client base before the sanctions. [source]
However, when the US government blacklisted VTB, many of their foreign partners implemented special control over all the Russian banking operations, including gold.
Source: VTB head says keeps good ties with U.S: Banks after sanctions
Foreign Banks, which used to purchase gold from Russian Banks, are holding off their purchases, even though gold miners are not intended targets of the sanctions.

In the search for other markets for Russian gold, VTB has turned to China: VTB has now received member status the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) with direct access to China’s coveted domestic market and the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.
Source: VTB Press NEWs Release
So thanks to sanctions, we now have the world’s no. 1 (China) and no. 3 (Russia) gold producers selling the bulk of their gold in one place: The Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE).
How long until Shanghai imposes its own gold price on the world market?
Unintended consequence #2: Boosting the Moscow Stock Exchange (MOEX)
Since the start of the financial sanctions, Russian government officials have encouraged Russian companies to delist from western stock exchanges citing issues of “economic security”.
Source: Russian Bonds Gain With Stocks as Finance Ministry Pulls Auction, Paragraph “Economic Security”, Shuvalov
The “push effect” of Western sanctions was combined by a “pull effect” on the Moscow Stock Exchange which has assumed a very customer-oriented approach, adopting international standards and improving their infrastructure.
The attractiveness of the Moscow Stock Market was also enhanced by the drop in the ruble (also caused in-part by Western Santions) which made Moscow a more competitive and cost effective place to list as opposed to London or New York.
The decline of the rouble had the added benefit of boosting stock price performance. An example of this Uralki’s shares, whose shares “dropped 11% on the London market over the last year, but soared 34% on the Russian stock exchange”.
Source: Here’s why Russian companies are leaving London
Uralki is now looking to delist from the London Stock Exchange due to the fact that the volume of deals of the company’s shares on the Moscow stock exchange has been higher than the volume of deals on the LSE (London Stock Exchange).
Source: Uralki approves new buyback, may delist from LSE
Companies that have delisted from London, or are in the process of doing so are, include Polyus, FK Otkrytie, Rose Group to name a few.
Source: Russia’s London exodus as companies look east
Source: Russian companies abandon the London stock exchange in favor of Asia
Not all, companies that delist from London Stock Exchange relocate to Moscow Stock Exchange. Some are doing private deals; others are also looking to Shanghai. However, Moscow has seen increased activity, and earlier this year Moscow’s aggregate stock index had the best performance of all major stock markets. (27% MOEX, Bovespa Brazil 4%, S&P 3%) [source]
It’s most recent 3rd Q 2015 numbers show total operating income rose 52.9% Year on year , EBITDA increased 66.9% YoY, Net profit increased 71.7% YoY.
Source: Moscow Exchange 3Q2015 results
The CEO of MOEX Alexander Afanasiev stated: “We see a strong trend for trading more in Russia and more original shares”.

So sanctions have created a thriving domestic stock market in Russia which means Russian companies no longer need to go west to raise capital…
Interesting how the tactical “planners” who are in charge of destroying my country always seem to be able to look about one-half move ahead.
Thanks for this very interesting and informative article.
I recognize the difficulty of considering that these consequences are unintended. It is difficult because we are conditioned to think the Empire behaves in a certain way to slay Russia. I think there is a global agenda to help consolidate a global order which is not that of the Empire but which Imperial elites (including Putin’s allies and family) do benefit by. There is this pivot to China financially and militarially, there is Nord stream, there is the rather rapid totalitarianization of the E.U., there is the curious possibility that the West will lose a theoretically unwanted war thereby ending it’s unilateralism. The scenario is set forth by defectors and I think step by step it is coming true.
Have you noticed how similar the flag of the Syrian Arab Army is to the U.N. flag? Again, it can be compared to the flag used by the anonymous hacker group. Even in Russia, you see the two wreaths on some of the flags.
This might explain the extreme difficulty in making sense of this whole situation. Maybe it is not meant to actually make sense to any serious observer. Maybe they just use all this mayhem to bring about an agenda that all participant agree to at the highest level.
When we are trying to analyse the situation using normal political lenses, we might be falling into a trap. That at the highest levels, politics are not judged by matters related to national identities.
The Saker often worries about a masonic secret design from the globalists. I tend to agree with that general idea. It makes it awfully hard to make sense of anything by looking at what their puppets are doing in front of the camera.
I have yet to figure out if Putin is part of the masonic plan or not. That shows how little I understand in this whole mess.
I”m on the same page. I guess only time will tell with Putin and Assad. Interesting that “ISIS” chose Raqqa as their base – it has a lot of symbolic significance going back to before the Crusades (see Battle of Harran 1104 and prior history of the latter). I’m a medievalist, so I guess I tend to look at it all through that lens but it’s the same sites, resource rich centres of ancient learning, there are so many parallels e.g. the Venetians selling out Baghdad to the Mongol armies of “unparalleled savagery” – it’s like they’re reenacting the same endless battles. I dunno, maybe that’s just what we humans ‘do’ but it does lead you to think the elites at least see some eschatological purpose to it.
I occasionally consult into large financial institutions and some of them are so chock full of Masonic symbolism – just totally brazen. If it turns out they are all in it together I’ll be disappointed but not surprised.
Harran is one of the most ancient cities on the planet; a trading and commerce hub of Sumer. Abraham comes out of there. So much fascinating ancient history comes out of Anatolia and the Levant.
Napoleon seems to have said that bankers were his worst enemy. They have no patrie, their patrie is money only. Kennedy has more then once insinuated the existence of secret societies, I remember him stating something like this maybe not the exact words; ” there are people who want to enslave every single man woman and child in this country”
For me it makes no difference these societies are seated in the West., they belong to the West and the West is happy with that.otherwise they could have been routed out long ago
I’ve looked in that stuff somewhat so I don’t scoff when I see/hear the word ‘masonic’ but aside from that, I think any reasonable person has to be open to the possibility of networks (s)he knows nothing about….
Networks certainly exist, but they become meaningless if they do not involve confluence of interests. My perspective is that there isn’t much point approaching things by trying to ferret out the networks when you can easily infer where the networks have to be from the interests at work. It doesn’t really matter whether the billionaire financiers are networking via masons, trilateral commission meetings, Bilderberg, just the fairly open-air World Economic Forum at Davos, at rich-people dinner parties, or by having a World of Warcraft guild that chats a lot. The point is that people in certain structural positions have something to gain by working together, and the more important point is that they seem to think in terms of zero- or even negative-sum games: They mostly get more by hosing the rest of us.
So they’re working together some way and it doesn’t much matter how. You can watch the results in the policies that do and don’t get enacted, in which movements authorities try to suppress and which they allow to grow, and so on. So for instance, Tea Partiers imagine that they are rebels, but obviously they are not or you’d never ever hear about them in the MSM, their radio shows would be cancelled and the cops would be pounding on them all the time and arresting their leaders and so on. You can tell what the big boys are going to push for next by seeing what ideas the mainstream media is trying to tell people are great and for their own good even though, considered dispassionately, they’re obviously horrible. Or just by thinking “What lever would let rich financiers get even more money and control with less responsibility? What is still in the public domain or has relatively dispersed ownership or gives people a voice?” You can expect attempts to nobble and/or take over all such things.
Not to mention that the threads of connection are weak, nonexistent and reified, often only of value to the one tracing them. Alex Jones has made a cottage industry out of ferreting out links, and scaring people.
A question I have wondered which is somewhat related: What is the relationship between the Russian aerospace/defense industry and the American (global, offshore) one. I suppose that the short answer is: It’s complicated. The long answer is someone’s unfinished dissertation. Years ago, I recall being fascinated by Anthony Sutton’s and his work, which dealt with among other things, technology transfer. Some solutions to technical problems no doubt are arrived at independently, others reverse engineered…
I am just a hobbyist, trying to get an idea of this world we are living in.
They are all of the same class. Their common interests with each other far outweigh anything they share with you or I.
Which begs the question: when are you and I gonna get our act together and start representing our own interests?
After Putin there will be no one who so much as thinks of us. Demonizing him serves the western oligarchs because it encourages their potential opponents, as in you and me, to relax and leave it up to the Russians to save us from ourselves.
It’s curious that many American “controlled opposition” types promote this meme.
Alex Jones, for instance, always peddles the “Out of Chaos Comes (New World) Order” like a religious mantra.
The idea of the Illuminati, Masons, Globalists or some other shadowy group secretly orchestrating geopolitical events to effect a scenario is a recurring, if cliched, idea that many Anglo Americans or their allies instinctively latch onto.
Despite the superficial differences, these tropes are essentially variations on the same meme/message.
As such, these theories are not merely an attempt to understand events, as their devotees insist, but also are motivated by more self-serving agendas.
In particular, this narrative conveniently paints the American Empire as a hapless “victim” that is merely being set up–and thus deflects attention away from the Americans as a preeminent author and actor behind the hated New World Order.
OMG Serbian Girl…4500 views !! Congratulations girl !!
And to the doubters of the shadow circles…its not hoqus poqus….when you start to look into it, its more about ‘us against them’…with a handshake…not really occult anymore….
Read ‘The Brotherhood’ by Stephen Knight…its simple to read and tells very much about them.
Charles Stegiel,
Yes, certainly the smart move for oligarchy would’ve been to co-opt those in control rather than to fight entire nations to a standstill. I keep coming back to the rather simple idea that if one really wanted Russia to escape from monetary bondage, why not unite with a few other countries in leaving the IMF/Fed system? Surely only a sovereign money system can allow the Russian economy to take off. Nikolay Starikov in his free online book says that most countries categorized as “developing” by the IMF, including Russia, can print only an amount of money equivalent to their income from exports. They can’t use the central bank reserves even as collateral. This obviously causes great economic distortion to prioritize exports, and still greater inhibitions on growth by having to borrow someone else’s fiat currency. Modern Monetary Theory is how the sovereign currency movement is being spoken of today.
China has somehow been empowered to ignore her “developing” category all these years– hence has always printed her own currency as needed. Difficult to believe after all the technology transfers and the capital investment, that the oligarchs suddenly looked up one day and realized that China is a rival to the empire. Especially because Li Keqiang (sp?) attends Davos.
We are so many as compared to the oligarchs and their top-level minions. Surely there must be something we can do?
I learned a tremendous amount from the Starikov book. I think he also has some articles. The book is here. http://lit.md/files/nstarikov/rouble_nationalization-the_way_to_russia%27s_freedom.pdf
Question: What is R. Ischenko saying these days? Usually he is most insightful.

Serbian girl,

De-link,de-list everything from yankwank land.
Georgi Shwartz aka George Soros is an attack dog launched against anyone disobeying the US.
In a rigged game, the only winner is one who does not play by ‘their’ rules.
In the US comex there are only position limits for buyers, not sellers !,
a so called ‘Market Maker’ can dump a 100,000 contracts when noone are buying, and this is called ‘liquidity’, but they do not supply 2,000 tons plus of gold like the Shanghai Gold Exchange, anually.
Today the USDX passed 100 again…telling every muppet…..yes your FRN’s are good value…..keep using them….whatever you do………. “do not buy pet rocks”
I see Thug Life Erdogoon is out making the press rounds, openly taunting Putin knowing he’ll do nothing.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Russia’s President Vladimir Putin not to “play with fire” over his country’s downing of a Russian jet.
Mr Erdogan also said he wanted to meet Mr Putin “face-to-face” at climate talks in Paris to resolve the issue.
Mr Putin wants an apology from Turkey before he will speak to Mr Erdogan, the Russian president’s aide said.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34941093
Erdogan is living in a fantasy world if he thinks that. It takes a special kind of stupidity to strike someone and demand an apology. Especially someone of a greater magnitude… I would be amused if Putin slapped him around personally, that would really highlight where the turk really stood on the world stage.
I’d love it for one of these bozoes to get their kiss and make up meeting with Putin and ‘walk into a door’ – but then I’m no diplomat.
Shirt-Front Erdogan?
An interesting ‘shirt-front’ segue to OT on why (now ex-) Australian PM, Mr Tony Abbott was so “I’m gonna shirt-front Putin at Brisbane’s G20”.
Ha! … It turns out the KGB had basically taken over this political Neanderthal’s national ASIO spy network even up to and during the 80’s-90’s. Seems little Tony ‘I live in the army barracks’ Abbott was taking it very personally as PM.
“How the KGB penetrated Australia’s premier spy agency during the Cold War”
http://rbth.com/blogs/2015/09/11/how_the_kgb_penetrated_australias_premier_spy_agency_during_the_cold_w_49127.html
It now appears that Putin has already shirt-fronted Erdogan on his own home turf at the recent G20 in Anatolia — flashing up the horizon-to-horizon stolen oil ‘pipeline’ on wheels that ‘mini-me’ Erdogan son (and the usual requisite ‘intel chief’) runs for the ‘Family’.
Universe full of ‘loss of face’ for this Turk criminal with his religious twists (& terrorists friends).
It seems the ‘Top-Turk’ du jour could not contain his anger and rage (for got to serve it cold) and took a deadly swipe at the Russian.
More than likely the Russian pilots were not meant to die but ideally become human shields and negotiating meat in the complex Russian-Turkish sandwich. That was botched by the criminals on the ground for some You Tube footage and the Iranian special ops rescue team.
Now it seems this criminal soon-to-be ex ‘Top Cat’, with his very dubious claim to political office, is still digging his hole all the way to China. He’ll be gone ‘like Abbott’ by Xmas, imo. And more than likely Chinese ‘assets’ will be on site in northern Syria to help send a few more ‘shirt fronted’ central Asian terrorists onto their next life.
Sorry folks, but upon reading through various profoundly wise comments & exquisitely learned sources – there, here and everywhere – it is hopelessly becoming less and less clear to me which one of the following three is true:
A) The western sanctions are hurting Russia.
B) The western sanctions are beneficial for Russia.
C) The western sanctions are irrelevant to Russia.
Any takers?…
To be honest. It is extremely difficult to say. Too many variables and uncertainties.
But in the short-term, I would say they are somewhat hurting.
In the longer run, more or less after 3-4 years, they will have become beneficial. The reason I say this, is because it takes time for import-substitution, deleveraging, self-financing etc to get really going.
Any takers?…
Sanctions do hurt the Russian economy. But so to, do imports that are too cheap for local manufacturing/agriculture to compete. (same thing happening in a lot of countries)
How do you go about getting popular support for ending imports/offshoring and getting local manufacturing/jobs going?
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Import substitution without sanctions would be ideal, but no government would last if they tried that.
Hopefully in the long term Russia will be better off but in the short term, sanctions make it tough. especially the high tech section of oil and gas drilling, though I would guess that within a few years Russia will have developed their own tech rather than relying on multinationals that can be controlled by Washington and the US dollar.
All three are true to varying degrees. The average Russian family is facing inflation much higher than wage increases, a reduction of choice in certain foodstuffs and much higher prices for other foodstuffs. My eldest daughter says that meat as a regular meal item is the stuff of dreams. By the same token, her mother-in-law is receiving far higher prices for the pigs she raises and is looking at expanding production.
So in just one extended family there is both hurt and benefits. And since Russia will survive no matter what, (daughter stated she would rather eat tree bark than buy turkish food products), the sanctions are irrelevant to Russia.
Good for your daughter. Russia needs those loyal people now and always.
Love of country and a willingness to sacrifice is ingested with mother’s milk in Russia. There are rarely overt displays of manic flag waving like you see in the USA. In fact apart from Government buildings, you rarely see Russian flags flying. The St George ribbon has a life of its own for May 9th and helps reinforce the sacrifices of previous generations.
The need for extended families and the help of neighbours and friends to survive and prosper in a harsh climate causes a different attitude to “community” to the insular west.
In the US the black and hispanic people look after each other. removed. Are u trying to infer some racism? Any other post like this will be removed.Mod TR Sad, huh….
My thoughts are that they are harmful to some businesses or people in Russia, at least in the short term, and they are disruptive, but beneficial overall in freeing Russia from dependency (especially in the military and critical industries), enhancing security, and strengthening Russia’s economy and industry. If you move to a better area it’s beneficial overall, but disruptive and expensive during the transition. Russia should help those people who are harmed by the sanctions to make the transition, and also do some reforming within some of the economic structures, such as banking.
Russia also wants to be a stronger player in the world trading economy, but this too demands some changes and adjustments, and growth and repair in areas which were weakened in the neoliberal exploitation and oligarchical takeover a couple of decades ago.

From a Russian Sputnik reporter the whole detailed search and rescue of the Russian navigator.
The units from Russian Special Forces, Quds force, Syrian Special Forces, and satellite images in real time, Putin monitoring the search from Moscow, Soleimani commanding the coordinated search and fire fights while Turks Special Forces tried to capture the Russian. Electronic warfare to block US satellites.
It will make a great movie some day.
Russia will have to disconnect from the neoliberal globalised economy in order to survive as a sovereign independent nation-state. Further Russian integration into the neoliberal world economy will strip Russia of its sovereignty and Russia will not be able to resist the pressure from the West.
These policies include:
1) Russian exit from WTO,
2) nationalisation of the commanding heights and the natural monopolies,
3) return of the looted soviet state property into public control
4) nationalisation of the banking system,
5) rebuilt the Russian industrial and agricultural base with the long term aim of a self sufficient economy
I agree with all your five points. Incidentally, the USSR, at different times in different forms and with varying success, did try something similar. Apparently, the main obstacles to realising these basic objectives would be internal rather than external, meaning, there would be a clash with interests of those possessing the looted public property, of oligarchs if you will. Putin is a rather firm hand, but how firm he could possibly be in facing such problems isn’t quite clear. For he definitely does not rule in a vacuum, he must rely on consensus of a powerful segment of society – and this does not mean simply voters.
Johan, I think you wd find interesting this article. Note the 2d paragraph I’ve copied. It seems the General Staff now has more power than the oligarchs!
11/2/15 http://johnhelmer.net/?p=14441#more-14441/ “The Russian oligarch system (aka Russian crony capitalism) was first designed to keep a weak, corrupt, American client, President Boris Yeltsin, in power. It then turned out to be well suited to the projection of Russian economic power abroad and to the expansion of Putin’s domestic support after he had eliminated threats from the front rank of the oligarchs – Vladimir Gusinsky, Boris Berezovsky and Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The system was volatile and competitive, but stable until the point when the US used force for regime change in Russia.”
***”Through the collapse of the international commodity trade and the cutoff of their international financing, the indebtedness of the oligarchs has resulted in their virtual nationalization by the Russian state banks. Individually, oligarchs remain for as long as Putin and the security services judge them to be patriotic and loyal; and on condition they accept their new role as state trustees rather than entrepreneurial capitalists.”
I totally agree with you. Its a disgrace that they haven’t been working hard on that for years. But from what I see there is a schism in the elite classes of Russia. And those that benefit from the West financially would rather betray Russia than suffer financially themselves. Those that want Russia saved haven’t got (or at least used) the power to control them. I think its very debatable whether Russia will save herself in the long run. I used to be confident that they would. But the last year and a half leaves me not so sure anymore.
yeah, its unbelievable that the Russian oligarchs have no faith in Russia…what friggin’ wimps….yuck….
there was a really good Crosstalk the other day…here is the link

Very true. All excellent policies. Hard to pull off, and I’m not clear that Putin is even interested in going that route. Like Uncle Bob, this worries me.
sdff
Lovely list. In a nutshell; that would do it nicely – for Russia.
European countries – and – the United States, would do well to follow a similar 5 points.
For the Democratic Republics!
IMAGINE
According to the information released by the Russian MOD today the Turkish jet crossed into Syrian airspace to attack the Russian SU-24. In anyone’s book that would be considered a direct “act of war” if Russia chose to proclaim it as such (which wrongly they haven’t so far). While if Russia stuck back at them the Turks would try to invoke Article 5 in the NATO alliance treaty. I don’t believe that article allows for a country to be the aggressor and then claim protection. If I’m wrong then that would leave open any country at anytime to do the same to start wars. So I doubt that is allowed by that article in the treaty.
If the US and NATO “is” looking to start a war then we have a problem. But on the other hand after allowing Ukraine to get away with “bitch-slapping” her.And now Turkey doing the same. That has set a precedent. And not one that is good for Russia to have allowed to be set.
So why didn’t nato attack turkey when turkey invaded Cyprus? Causing Greece to drop out of nato..
article 5 is all bullchit..
Its basically, whatever the US says it means. The US will sometimes defer to other countries if they aren’t sure they can control their votes. But they work hard to make sure they can control their votes. So,its a rare occasion that NATO states will defy them on anything.
Whatever NATO says it doesn’t supersede the UN charter.
Russia’s main concern is survival, not revenge. She plays the long game.
not ot, terrarists attack on *brics sans i* !!!
WARNING
*this is not for coincidence theorists*
i suspect it was another cia wet job using islam proxies when i learned that three chinese were killed, all top exec from the chinese railway.
i was 90% convinced when i found out several russians were also murdered by the terrarists and….21 indians who had been staying at the hotel for months were unmolested.
im now 99.9% sure [1], just like i knew mh370 was a cia targetted assasinaton the moment i learned that 250 chinese were onboard.

allowing for the odd chance of 0.1% that this is just another coincidence.
A couple weeks ago I sarcastically replied to one of your postings -as a joke- that the “Indians did it!” look not a single one of the 20 Indians staying at that hotel in Mali was harmed- therefore it had to be “Indian hegemon” and its dastardly allies that carried of the attack. And you fell for the joke hook line and sinker!
Do you realize how ridiculous and irelevant your paranoid fantasies are?
Just to see how you rationalize the following into your conspiracy theory, I’ll point out that the one American to be killed was an Indian American, Miss Anita Datar, age 41 – a woman of Indian descent. I’d love to see you creatively weave this into your fictional story.
Really your posting was completely off topic here. The subject we’re discussing here is Serbian Girl’s good article on Inadvertent benefits to Russian from Wesyern sanctions.

This news exposes the continuation of American imperialist rule over Hawaii.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/11/27/supreme-court-halts-hawaiian-election_n_8669278.html
Hawaii had their independent Government overthrown by the US Army, and was violently and illegally seized, and has received no help from the United Nations in ousting the terrorist occupiers. Most of the issue of the American crimes against the Hawaiian people are censored by the bought media.
Information of the colonialist crimes against the Puerto Rican people are similarly kept out of the predominantly propaganda media.
The Hawaiian people continue to struggle for their freedom – in 2015.
For their Democratic Republics!
IMAGINE
* note: the attempt of the Hawaiian people to gain their independence/freedom is through their creation of their own Alternate Government (that is, by creating the first embryo of what will become -Their Own Government). They are using the same method of struggle that I have recommended for our American citizens -to use- in our effort to Restore our Constitutional Republic that was destroyed on November 22, 1963.
The Lakota Republic has had an independence movement for years and indeed declared independence from America back in 2007.

The United States is a prison house of captive nations, which ironically Russia recognizes, as it hosted a recent conference for self-determination among those nations under European/American occupation such as Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Catalonia, etc.
The response of the Europeans and Americans consisted of their usual hypocritical denunciations and self-righteous outrage.
The Europeans and American can’t stand to see nations emerging within their own borders–even as they routinely support secessionist movements in other countries.

Any propaganda or “vision” or mystical message that depicts God as punishing the world is designed to scare people and make them obsess over secrets and the future.
Our times are no more sinful than countless, others.
Punishment is the opposite of everything our Heavenly Father wants.
Who benefits from billions of people scared and obsessing over religious messages?
Do children benefit? No Do families benefit? No Do communities blossom with active, kindly people? No Then who does benefit from all that?
