First: US did not allow UN to vote this anonymously because US concerned about that outcome, who was afraid, and who was bullying? The only way to stop US is to block its hegemonic behavior.
Second: No problem, non-binding vote anyway.
(Pepe Escobar had an interesting post on Telegram from the Russian Rep at the UN Dmitry Polyansky on the “twisted the arms” of 30 states before vote: https://t.me/rocknrollgeopolitics/6312. Mod.)
Not in my opinion, because those 141 did choose. The term ‘cowardice’ is pointing to the 32 who did not chose. For many of the 141 who did chose under pressure I prefer the term ‘treachery’.
I would love to see US and Europe sanction India, China, Asean and Africa at the same time.
Waiting in anticipation. And of course nothing should be routed through other western lackeys. As an added bonus they should also all oil and gas from OPEC too.
Most of the 141 are either serf’s or lackey’s of the US (most both). While the others are afraid to “cross” the Hegemon. And a very few others that just disapprove of military actions in general.
But actually none of that “really” matters. The US always is good at propaganda shows. But what really does matter is the fact that polls inside Russia show 75% of the people are firmly in support of the SMO. While 13% have questions about it’s operation but support the military. And only 12% think the SMO wasn’t right. As an example of the feeling in Russia is shown with this Defender of the Fatherland event in Moscow on 2-23-23:
Watch in full: Vladimir Putin joins Russian celebrations ahead of Defender of the Fatherland Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhijbJJYn7g&ab_channel=TheTelegraph
While the others are afraid to “cross” the Hegemon. And a very few others that just disapprove of military actions in general.
If this example is as good as any, I see that Mexico is one of the 141 countries listed alongside Argentina, Chile and Brazil. I recall that at one point AMLO condemned the invasion itself (what with Mexico having been invaded by the US, Spain and France at different points), but refused to impose sanctions on Russia. Under which of the three camps (or a combination thereof) would one categorize each Latin American country?
@joey
Many countries are walking a very thin line and have very different reasons to vote in one way or another.
For example, my country (Argentina) voted along the other 140 because we have a problem with England (Malvinas/Falklands). If we accept other countries entering/invading other countries, we are, in a certain way, accepting England occupation of Malvinas. We use to disapprove military actions actions in general. (here applies the Malvinas example again)
On the other hand, Argentina did not put sanctions against Russia. We have a very good relationship with each other.
This is no longer secret and it’s business as usual. It shows how effective the petrodollar bribery system really works. There must be a whole lot of white envelopes – at least 141 for sure – with new bills in them going hand in hand all over the halls of the UN HQ during these general sessions. Of course a specially big one is put aside for the chief.
As an Irish man I am ashamed. Our government is nothing more than a bunch of self serving, short sighted, greedy bunch of people that realise what they are doing. For money. How can this be considered as anything other than treachery? I don’t speak for others but I wish they would stand up and be counted.

Ukraine shipped one destroyed Russian T-72 tank to Berlin, Germany, for public display, at US tax payers’ money, of course.
Germans did turn out to see it, but to the dismay of German authority, Berliners sent flowers to this propoganda stunt piece. Locals in interview said that he wants diplomatic solution of this conflict, not war. Do you think the ruling elites of US and EU will listen?
You can be happy that 2 of the Irish European MP’s are really good (I can’t think of the names right now. I think one may be Clare Daily and the other’s first name may be Mick or Nick?). They regularly speak out against NATO. But as for the government your right there.
War is not about who is right, or who is wrong, or who is winning a popularity contest, or who is getting their arm twisted. War is about who remains after the bullets stop flying. In my opinion if Russia wanats to survive, they bettert get on with it. Until the psycho’s in Kiev are vaporized this Ukraine battle is not going to stop.
He’s hardly a psycho Robert, more of a Rent-Boy taking orders from the Evil Empire, much like Club Blair, Obama, Macron and Johnson did, accumulating personal wealth on the back of his State’s suffering in the process.
Actually, what I was thinking about when I made the comment are the psyhcos in Washington, and the circulation of $$$ through the Kiev regime from Washington, to Kiev, and back to Washington. That I believe is a fair part of what keeps the interest for war in Washington going. Break the $$$ link through Kiev, and the drive for war should fizzle. But then again in the bigger picture it has been a long aspiration of the West to take over Russia. Ukraine is the obvious springboard into Moscow. When Russia neuters the Ukraine, the springboard will not longer be available to the West. The West’s advance onto Moscow will be stymied. Basically, the only possibility for peace in the Ukraine, is the neutering of Ukrainian military forces because negociating with Psychos is not possible.
Maybe it really is time that the Russian Federation really understands that the bribed elites of these countries do not give a damn that Russia is fighting in a just and humane way. Might as well take the gloves off and shove their votes where the sun doesnt shine.
Englishman my friend, nothing to see here. This has become a routine for current quislings in power in Serbia. They are about to capitulate to the US/NATO handing over sacred Serbian land to NATO terrorist just because President of Serbia is personally involved in a number of criminal affairs involving disappearance of former allies whose bodies then resurface in the Danube, or running wholesale marijuana plantations…
Yes Marko i have followed Serbia since the wars, why the hell do people vote for those Quislings, don’t like to say it and i know Serbs have done it before but the only way to get their attention is to turn out on the streets,i don’t understand why there is still an American Embassy in Serbia.
“Thousands of people in the US intelligence community knew about illegal surveillance by the NSA, but Edward Snowden was the only one to speak out, renowned investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said in an exclusive interview with Afshin Rattansi’s show “Going Underground.”

Seymour Hersh undoubtedly has a wider group of influential people backing him and isnt really a lone star.
There are serious worries among people who matter about what may follow.
Likewise, as I understand it, Snowdens revelations were motivated by competition within Intel.
Hitech vs human intel.
From my readings he was motivated by his own belief that what the USA was doing was wrong. I never believed James Corbetts’ theory that the entire showdown between Russia and the Empire is a show, that they are “in bed together” to fool the world and that Snowden was a hoax.
I have always taken him to be genuine.
And yes, of course, Hersh does have many who are on side with him – lots are here for example. Still, in the wider picture there are many many fewer who fly with the angels than who dont, reflected in that shameful vote at the UN – few really want Russia forced to take all troops out of Ukraine and the wider war handed to America, but look how fe had the guts to vote with their conscience.
IMH for the vast majority of green votes, it simply doesn’t matter. They carry no real weight for the current situation as long as they don’t get directly involved in the conflict. The necessary pieces balanced it and that’s how politics goes.
An important note regarding Afghanistan’s UN vote: it’s BS. The current Afghan UN seat is still controlled by the old US/NATO puppet government that collapsed in August of 2021. The current Taliban-led government is not represented at the UN. It would be as if South Vietnam still had a vote at the UN… A similar situation exists with Myanmar — it’s current government is not represented at the UN. Instead, a US puppet from the neo-liberal Aung San Suu Kyi regime holds the seat. And let’s also not forget Libya, where a US puppet government from Tripoli “represents” the country at the UN, even though most of Libya’s population lives outside that regime’s control. So, the closer you look, the more you see that this “vote” was a sham.
Thanks again Nate for these links, and also thank you for telling the truth about Myanmar (I’ve really struggled against the stream as far as Burma Studies are concerned, including being expelled from an academic forum).
You’re welcome. Yep, Myanmar is yet another country under attack just because it wants to be a sovereign nation and not ruled from Washington, DC. Not surprised to hear that they expelled you. The “social studies” and “humanities” fields in the West have become completely fraudulent. Nothing but neo-liberal/Neocon propagandists there these days…
@David Whitney: “Nuclear powers: 3 Yes, 2 No, 3 abstain.”

By the time it comes to nukes I guess Iran will have them and China will switch: +2 making 5 for No.
Nukes are not enough: you need Boots on the (irradiated?) Ground. China and India have by far the most boots: 36% of the world’s population; only 9% of the world’s boots in NATZO countries. So, which way will India go? Stay out of it and pick up the (radioactive?) pieces, or do the math — 5 to 4 against NATZO in nukes, and 2 to 1 against NATZO in boots.
My guess is that for many, particularly smaller Nations, voting the wrong way, like Smoking, can really damage your health. Especially if: 1. You need US$ to buy necessities. 2. What can the UN do, anyway??? Many resolutions before had no effect. Will this time be different? I don’t think so. The UN has lost its credibility a long time ago… This was just PR.
I am pretty sure it is not that simple. Yes, and often to be a traitor, although it may be morally reprehensible depending, it usually takes a fair bit of courage:-)
