11th century fresco of the Resurrection, Chora Church, Constantinople |
Today is by far the biggest and most joyful day of the year for Orthodox Christians. This is also the day when Christians greet everybody, regardless of their faith or lack thereof with the words “Christ is Risen!”. The ancient tradition has many meanings, but one of them is the fact that Christ did not only resurrect for the pious believers, but for all of mankind and in His resurrection he “co-resurrected” all of humanity. I think that it is therefore only appropriate for me to also greet you all with this ancient greeting – Christ is Risen!
For those of you more theologically inclined, regardless of your religion or denominaton, I am posting an except from the first epistle of Saint Paul to the Corinthians which has a profound exposition of the importance of the resurrection of Christ for all of mankind.
I will “see” you all on Monday, kind regards and have a peaceful and joy-filled Holy Paskha,
The Saker
——-
Saint Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians (chapter 15 verses 12-58)
Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body. All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Христос Воскресе – Воистину Воскресе!!!
Yes! Christ is risen. We who believe celebrate this. His sacrificial death for sin is accepted by God the Father. Therefore God raised Jesus Christ from the dead and crowned Him, bestowing upon Him all power in Heaven and on earth.
In His death and resurrection, Death died for all who trust in Him. And upon His return, all who trust in Him by faith for the forgiveness of their sins will also be resurrected like Him.
@ Simon chow
Yes our Father Rewarded Jesus Christ with a crown only fit for a God…. iv seen it and its awesome it bears 3 crosses…. you have much wisdom Simon Atb to you brother from another.
Apparently, the new Russian allies in the Balkans, also known as Ustasha, celebrate too. Hristos voekrese.

“new Russian allies” are you kidding?
Lavrov reaffirmed the Dayton Peace treaty. For this reason the Bosnian Croats and Muslims refused to meet with him on his most recent trip to the Balkans:
https://www.rferl.org/a/lavrov-to-meet-bosnian-leaders-after-stressing-opposition-to-changes-in-25-year-old-dayton-agreement/31001307.html
Lavrov’s trip to Croatia was cancelled under the pretext of “Covid”..(even though it didn’t prevent him from travelling anywhere else…)
https://www.total-croatia-news.com/politics/47716-foreign-minister-says-lavrov-s-visit-postponed-due-to-coronavirus
Politics aside, to be alone and without allies is to share in the suffering of the Christ who was also alone and without allies on the Cross.
As for these Croats rampaging for blood on Orthodox Easter Sunday, it hurts them more than it hurts us, I guess we should be praying for them…
Le Christ est ressuscité !
– En vérité Il est ressuscité.
Le Christ est ressuscité des morts,
Par sa mort Il a terrassé la mort,
Et à ceux qui gisaient aux tombeaux,
Il a fait don de la Vie
Christ is risen !
– Truly He has risen.
Christ rose from the dead,
By his death He crushed death,
And to those who lay in the tombs,
He donated Life
Joyeuses Pâques Andrei.
Que la Paix du Christ éclaire l’humanité en ses temps eschatologiques.
Avec tout mon respect et mon affection.
He is risen indeed ! God bless you Saker.

And here is my favourite Easter song dating back to the nineteen seventies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtuHzBB4abk
And here’s the original version from 1974 when I first heard it as a young Christian:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-hLSR5F4Y0
Thanks for reminding us, dear Saker.
We already celebrated it here in Germany, but the date is irrelevant and Covid measures make it bleak.
However, it is my determination -as a Christian- that Easter is something that is in our hearts, irrelevant of the date. The Lord lives, even death could not defy Him. And He is there for all of us, and through Him we may have the hope for salvation, and may He have a Hand in helping us save this battered planet.
My best wishes for you all and your families, stay safe and healthy. Cheers, Rob
Happy Easter.
Or in Welsh, Pasg Hapus.
For Easter no matter the denomination an amazing testimony:
“During the summer of 1853 Oberlin was struck with a severe drought. The hay fields were dried up so there was no feed for the cattle. The cattle soon must die and the harvest fail unless rain comes. Crops had withered, wells dried up, and the parched earth became powdery.
On Sunday morning the church was filled. Not a cloud was in sight and no one expected a drop of water to fall from the skies that day. The situation was desperate. Finney arose from his chair walked to the pulpit and lifted his voice in prayer.
“O Lord! Send us rain. We pray for rain. Our harvests perish. There is not a drop for the thirsting birds. The ground is parched. The choking cattle lift their voices toward a brassy heaven and lowing, cry ‘Lord give us water… We do not presume to dictate to Thee what is best for us, yet Thou dost invite us to come to Thee as children to a father and tell Thee all our wants. We want rain! Even the squirrels in the woods are suffering for want of it. Unless Thou givest us rain our cattle must die… O Lord, send us rain! and send it now! For Jesus sake!’ Amen.”
“In the preacher’s voice,” reports the California minister, “was the plaintiveness of a creature’s cry. I do not know whether any pencil caught more of this wonderful prayer, but all who heard it had to tell of its bold importunity. It had the pathos and power of an Isaiah.”
Then the pastor-revivalist poured out his soul in a searching sermon, “hewing close to the line,” from the text, “I have somewhat against thee because thou hast left thy first love.”
“Not many minutes did the sermon go on before a cloud about the size of a man’s hand came athwart the summer sky,” says the California preacher. “It grew fast. The wind rattled the shutters of the old church. Darkness came on the air, joy aroused our anxious hearts as great raindrops pattered on the sun-scorched shingles of the monumental old church. Finney’s lithe figure, tall as a Sioux warrior, ruddy as a David, trembled. His clarion voice choked. God had heard his cry. The sermon was never finished, for torrents of water poured from the prayer-unlocked heavens. The preacher bowed over the pulpit and said, Let us thank the Lord for the rain.”
He gave out the hymn, When all they mercies, O my God my rising soul surveys, Transported with the view, I’m lost in wonder, love and praise.
The congregation could not sing for weeping. Then Finney lifted heavenward a prayer of thanksgiving and praise. “I can remember not a word of the closing prayer, but the reverent and relaxed figure, the pathetic voice, the pallid and awe-struck countenance, are vivid as if it was yesterday; the plank sidewalks of the dear old town splashed our garments as we walked home from a short service, of which life’s memory must be lasting.” This is the testimony of the student who sat in the gallery and saw and heard Finney that morning.”
Христо́с воскре́се из ме́ртвых, сме́ртию смерть попра́в
How come the world is full of evil, clearly the reign of evil, if the Savior is risen?
From Saint Anthony of Egypt:
“We are granted this struggle [against evil]—precisely granted it. It is our honor, our glory that God entrusts us—us, the weak and insignificant—to struggle with evil in the world. And this struggle begins not outwardly, not in our opposition to those close and far, but it begin within us, in the victory over ourselves, in overcoming everything, becoming the masters over our souls, bodies, minds, hearts, will, and lives—
Christ, conqueror of death, is risen!
Happy Easter.

Happy Holy Paschka!
Happy Easter to you and your family, Saker.
Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Therefore all who have ears will consider his promises.
“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10)
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.” (Revelation 3:20-21)
He is risen, and that simple historical fact changes everything. The darker the skies, the greater the victory to come.

The future is unknown, it doesn’t exist. It will be what it will be, and we are it’s handmaidens, mostly sleepwalking toward our unknown fate. We can choose to proclaim the light and shed our light on the world, on the blind and venal actions of the high and mighty, and hold forth the possibility of a brighter future, proclaiming hope, or join the march of the lemmings.
Thank you Saker for being one of our great torchbearers.
Love and peace to you and all your flock
Very Holy Paska to you and your wife.

Posted on Holy Paskha by a friend in Donetsk who has lost family in the war:
We are killed because we are Russians not in words.
It’s already like this: as someone dies, they say ′′ you’re having a war “…
or what to cry is he already with God.. even about a child.
Or the fate of the whole Donbass is more important than someone’s life..
Or are they ′′ self-guilty.. why didn’t they leave..”
We have stepped over and forgot.
And so many people died that the next death displace the previous one. And the mourners seem almost crazy.
Our lives are devalued and almost no one cares anymore.
Why is it?
Russians who raised Russian on a pedestal, in a context when a crazy world with new antif values comes, and in the most legalized territory of Russians even try to cut it…
Of course, it is clear that we will not be released from the pressures of Minsk and Norman conspiracy until the last Russian who did not escape the war.
Time for the woken up dishonest and we dissonance. People mimicrate, but we have not.
If the people do not wake up and decision makers do not revive spiritually and morally, the visible and hidden enemies will leave in the world except those of Russians who have long lost Russian national heroic qualities. When heroism is not bravada or cruelty. Fight for mercy, for love, for salvation, spiritual values and honor of your people…
Ukraine has already forgotten that it is Russia. Now this is a zombie army of former Russians singing Hitler marches on the approaches to Donetsk…
Russia, save it. Admit it.
Russia is silent. The decision-makers hung us as chains of Minsk agreements… which now call us the reason why they wash their hands…
Lord, save Donbass.
And a comment on her post by another Russian:
It’s not Russia who is silent, but its rulers without eggs. For me, Novorossiya is always Russian land.
Indeed he’s risen!
Christianity, the faith of slaves, poor, and downtrodden, is the root of all Human RIGHTS.
That is why the Bolsheviks hate Christ with all their little hearts.
GODLESS Marxist/Bolshevism(judaism) considers ITSELF to be God.
Therefore there ARE no God Given Rights as is amply demonstrated by their murderous ENSLAVEMENT of their own People, under EVERY-ONE of their regimes. Under Communism/Socialism You are the Property of the STATE, not a Child of God.
Putin’s big crime in the mind of our REAL rulers is he did not make any effort to put communism back into place in the former USSR. He made common bond with the Orthodox Christian Church and even encouraged the rebuilding of Christian churches all over the former atheistic USSR. http://investmentwatchblog.com/putin-calls-for-cultural-self-preservation-of-europe-from-impure-globalist-agenda/
Hello Saker.
I am a long time lurker on your site, I guess I go right in Churchills defenition…. if you are not leftwing progressive as young you do not have a heart. But if you do not get more conservative as adult, you are just stupid.
About the religious festivitas… in my scandinavian language, this period in liturgy is referred to as ‘påske’. and I cannot but note the similarities. I know the old vikings did indeed go deep into Rus, is this a cultural common ground?
As I can see it, it is precisely that very scientific mindset, that will in the end give us salvation. Think about all those guys beeing part of the reseatch at Stanford University. Read up on Ingo Swann, Pat Price and Robert Monroe. We can agree that there is more to it all. Happy påske to all !
Beeing a thread not concerned with geopolitics in the usual manner, I will give the kommentariat a good tip. Search up ‘Snordelhans’ or ‘Snordel’ and you will find a guy from south afrika, that gives the consept of personal responibility a new meaning. There is still hope buried down in the west. Someplace.
But Saker/mods…… I am still intrigued about the the similarities in language. In scandinavian, it is called ‘påske’
Desillusioned Norwegian
As for the story of crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross, the Quran makes it abundantly clear that it is based on rumor and conjecture and not on facts: “And for their saying, “We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the messenger of God”—though they did not slay him; nor did they crucify him, but it appeared so unto them.” (Quran 4: 157)
We can confirm the factual veracity of the Quranic statement when we know that the accounts on this issue in the early Christian sources are self- contradictory.
It has led some academics who were committed Christians to lose their faith in Christianity altogether. That was the case of Bart Ehrman who renounced Christianity after years of research into the history of the Christian scriptures and forgeries associated with them.
