I like Roger’s fortitude. He could bask in his wealth and fame. Instead, he risks ruin and “worse”.

    It is about principles.

As for Assange, he missed his opportunity of leverage with the truth of the DNC files.
And like Snowden, he did not prepare escape and sanctuary. Both got stuck to where they ran.

Now, they need public opinion en masse to find freedom. (I don’t think it will happen for either.)

Too many Deep State officials want Assange dead. If he or Wikileaks had something to leverage a deal, it would have surfaced by now. The way the AngloFascists are “executing” him is to break his health and mental stability. He appears a doomed man held in a dungeon by demonic persons.

CostaGravas would make a great movie of this tragedy. “A” might be its title.

    • ANDRE on March 07, 2020  ·  at 2:02 pm EST/EDT

There is always the chance that Trump will (ab)use Assange to testify who provided him with the USB stick RE the emails and open up the real face of the Deep State and turn the tables on the RussiHoax by showing who really were involved in election meddling (Ukraine links to DNC etc.). This would show the American public what really went on so that further legal action can be executed. Assange might then be pardoned by Trump and finally be free.

      • Larchmonter445 on March 07, 2020  ·  at 2:40 pm EST/EDT

Trump dare not take on the Deep State. If Assange can hang on until after the election, and after the clearing out of some of the Deep State within the White House NSC staff, there is a very slight chance.

        Basically, Trump could care less.

He sold out General Flynn, he abuses Senator/Attorney General Sessions, he cares only for himself.

What is the benefit to Trump for saving Assange? None.

Trump is transactional, not strategic. What’s in it for the Donald?

      • amarynth on March 07, 2020  ·  at 7:06 pm EST/EDT

This is speculation. Assange owes Trump nothing. And Assange owes the American public no explanations. The issue here is if the US can extradite journalists at will. And if they can, it is a threat to every journalist on earth.

The speculation that Trump will pardon Assange is just that, speculation.

    • Serbian girl on March 07, 2020  ·  at 2:43 pm EST/EDT

I fear you are right about Julian Assange’s fate.

There are differences between Snowden and Assange. For one, Snowden ran, whereas Assange did not. Snowden understood there would be consequences for what he did. He claimed he was on his way to Cuba when the US cancelled his passport and left him stranded in Russia. He fled the US and went to Hong Kong. I never really understood what was the point of going to Cuba via Hong Kong.. ? In hindsight, Russia is probably the best place for him now, anyways.

When the “rape” allegations against Julian Assange surfaced, he was in the UK attending a conference. He became ensnared in the judicial bureaucracy without ever being formally charged. I guess it shows how innocent he thought he was. He considered himself a journalist, not a hacker or a spy.. or a rapist. He was careless about his safety.

They did made a movie about Wikileaks called the “Fifth estate” with Benedict Cumberbatch. Wikileaks considered a propaganda hit-piece on them. I didn’t see it. If ever a good movie about this comes out, let us now, Larchmonter. Your endorsement would meaningful. Be well!

« Both got stuck to where they ran… »

Well, I don’t think you can compare them.

      Sure, both are «stuck».
However, Assange is stuck in prison in England, while Snowden is stuck in a country that covers 12% of the earth—and a country where the historical Church has a very visible influence.

I mean, if *I* where stuck, there would be no question to my mind as to where I would prefer to get stuck. Hint, it wouldn’t be a British jail.

      • TWHM on March 09, 2020  ·  at 3:42 am EST/EDT

Worth noting it was Assange and Wikileaks who arranged Snowden’s exit from Hong Kong, and to Moscow (where he waited at the airport for the Russian government to assess his asylum claim).

Snowden was with Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras in Honkers. The US ‘troops’ had worked out where he was, and were on their way. Greenwald and Poitras had run out of ideas, so contacted Assange/Wikileaks for help.

        The rest is history.

  2. ChrisK on March 07, 2020  ·  at 2:50 pm EST/EDT

Assange the martyr. Hero of rebellious hippydom.
What is the mantra of rebels? —Kill and steal! “They” stole from us, let’s steal it back! “They” must pay!
Roger Waters is a cult hero, this means throughout his career he has led souls down the path of insanity, drug addiction, irreligious anarchy. Now he rides the coattails of another rebel, to repeat his past débauche. Leading another generation into futility, and empty dead ends.
As Solzhenitsyn explains, Westerners view evil as existing only in others, and they think that certain groups specifically embody it, and that it can therefore be killed — by correctly identifying “them” and taking a stand. This is the politically correct attitude, the incorrect attitude is to only accuse oneself, to forgive others their supposed wrongs, to wish well to all men sincerely. Who can live to this high mark? We can all aspire to the heights, doing so will not bring us any lower.

    • Serbian girl on March 07, 2020  ·  at 4:17 pm EST/EDT

When Assange refers to his work as the “rebel library of Alexandria” , he means he has striven to give us “the single most significant collection of information that doesn’t exist elsewhere, in a searchable, accessible, citable form, about how modern institutions actually behave” https://www.democracynow.org/2016/7/25/assange_why_i_created_wikileaks_searchable

So nothing to do with killing or stealing, or being a hippie…

Of course the Hillary supporters will never forgive him as he revealed her hidden criminal actions, her covert support of ISIS, attack on Libya, assassination of Gaddafi, her collusion with CNN, US DOJ, her worship and sacrifice to Moloch ..

As a Serbian, I am very grateful to Julian Assange that he exposed Otpor /CANVAS (Centre for Applied Non- Violent Actions dn Strategies), and Srdja Popovic.

        Serbian girl,

Your stakes in WikiLeaks are flesh and blood your country has suffered. The Truth about what the US did to Serbia is vital to you and your country.

The rest of us suffer only infringement of our rights by the Hegemon. WikiLeaks has helped ruin some of those operations, and we are grateful.

The vaults of WikiLeaks are resources for historians and lessons for other world leaders.

Sadly, Assange and the data he has secured for the public is demonized and propagandized so most people are afraid to read it.

It is important, Serbian Girl, that you keep informing the world how important the information is that documents the crimes against the Serbian people.

        Thank you.

        • Serbian girl on March 08, 2020  ·  at 9:31 am EST/EDT

The “flesh and blood stake”, provide a very personal, almost self-interested motivation in my own quest for truth and understanding. Julian Assange is from a country that wasn’t at war,  and he does not have such a “flesh and blood stake”. His motivation comes from a much nobler place.

    • Katherine on March 07, 2020  ·  at 9:36 pm EST/EDT

“Roger Waters is a cult hero, this means throughout his career he has led souls down the path of insanity, drug addiction, irreligious anarchy. ”

Well, I haven’t followed all of Waters’s career. I never spent any time in rock concerts or taking drugs etc.
      I am really square.

However, the Waters I have seen and come to know as a public figure in the past two years is the man who has defended— eloquently and quietly and steadfastly—the legal and human rights of Assange and of the Palestinian people. I am a fan of this Roger Waters. As far as I can see he has used his fame as a rock star and his stage as a bully pulpit to stand up for the oppressed and bring their stories to his rock public.

This has been effective, since that stage has now expanded to include alternative news outlets such as Chris Hedges’ show, and now Tucker Carlson’s show. I applaud Carlson for inviting Waters on his show. Waters is a real hero. Furthermore I believe that his skills as an entertainer and performer give him the toolkit to speak in a very simple, direct, and simpatico way that appeals to anyone who hears him. He may be a rock rabble rouser on the stage, but in a newsroom studio his voice is low and pleasant and he chooses his words very carefully. His delivery is one of controlled emotion. He is obviously a very intelligent guy who is aware of the need to deliver his message–whether about Assange or the Palestinians—without alienating any potential ally or empathizer.

Really, what is to hate here? Why waste space here dumping on a hero?

What you write about Waters–your direct and implied excoriation of him— sounds really off the wall ad hominism and pretty nutty. Plus you take the name of Solzhenytzin in vain to reduce Waters and his great and somewhat thankless ethical work to nothing. I am quite sure that Solzhenytzin would applaud Water’s advocacy of the tortured and oppressed.

“Roger Waters is a cult hero, this means throughout his career he has led souls down the path of insanity, drug addiction, irreligious anarchy.”

I too find that line a pathetic attempt to smear a brilliant artist and principled person. Aside from the halcyon days of Syd Barrett and his tragic, drug fueled descent to madness there was very little drug use among the band. Perhaps they saw what it did to Syd and were scared off.

Far from leading souls down the path named above Pink Floyd made people think about subjects like insanity in a very personal way. Their music wasn’t to dance to it was to listen and think about. Something lost on the poster above.

    • Purple Library Guy on March 09, 2020  ·  at 2:33 pm EST/EDT

The rebellious hippies were right about a lot more things than the establishment that hated them.

“A Journey to the Rivers: Justice for Serbia”. Try to get a reasonably priced English copy of Peter Handke’s book. Censorship through price.

    • vato on March 08, 2020  ·  at 6:33 am EST/EDT

Wow. Just saw the prices on Amazon for a used hard cover 1st edition copy. 249$???

I got the latest 2019 edition which contains all the three travelogues in German for 15€.

Probably time to start learning German :)

Let’s don’t forget about Chelsea Manning is in prison also, for not testifying against Assange. Reminds me of the song by Bob Dylan on his Hurricane album, https://www.google.com/search?q=bob+dylan+hurricane+lyrics&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS839US839&oq=bob+dylan+hurr&aqs=chrome.1.0l2j69i57j0l5.8130j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

      Absolutely Petro-G,
Chelsea Manning is a trans woman who has made an incredibly important contribution to society. Has anyone seen any campaigns by the militant trans organisations defending one of their own? Or is their activism only limited to toilets and superficial stuff?

  5. Outlaw Historian on March 07, 2020  ·  at 5:53 pm EST/EDT

I’m amazed! I’d have never believed FOX of all the networks would air this interview AND snippets of the Collateral Murder Tape. Tucker Carlson must feel rather strange after all the ringers and twists he’s been put through.

    • Larchmonter445 on March 07, 2020  ·  at 6:05 pm EST/EDT

Tucker is a professional journalist, old tradition. He has the #2 Fox show, slightly less than Hannity. He suffers economic boycotts of national brands the loons on the left have threatened if they sponsor his show.

He’s a Christian, a father of four, educated well, and fearless.

I don’t agree with all his positions, but he isn’t an ideologue. He has an open mind, a sense of humor, a fierce love of people and strong ethics. That package is sorely missing in the rest of the MSM.

    • Anonymouse on March 07, 2020  ·  at 8:01 pm EST/EDT

Assange will be suicided like Epstein.

He’d better hope he’s got some dirt stashed away to bargain with although it appears not.

  6. Anonymous on March 07, 2020  ·  at 9:20 pm EST/EDT

I found the sound a bit weak on this embedded video; it is a bit stronger here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOJFFZQTl_U

Tucker let Rogers describe at some length the absurdity and malevolence of the campaign against Julian.
Tucker asks why the NYT doesn’t stand up for Julian as a journalist, and Roger, rightly, says: You have to ask the NYT that. I certainly hope Tucker does so.

No matter your background, but one must applaud Roger for being the champion of a free voice and conscience. He is a great man……bravo Roger.

  8. _smr on March 08, 2020  ·  at 5:42 am EST/EDT

Q: What have Tucker, Waters & Assange in common ?

A: They all believe in the official 9/11 narrative, i.e. are controlled opposition. Yes, it is that simple.

    • Purple Library Guy on March 09, 2020  ·  at 2:39 pm EST/EDT

Nonsense. Whether one believes the official 9/11 narrative actually has very little bearing on one’s real politics. 9/11 is a distraction no matter what you believe about it. I would actually suggest that the notion of truther/non-truther litmus tests is at least as likely to be of “intelligence community” manufacture as 9/11 itself. Just one more case of divide and rule.

      • Dutch on March 10, 2020  ·  at 11:52 am EST/EDT

BS. Tucker built his career at FOX by dressing people down as traitors for questioning the official story of 9/11. Go on YouTube and watch some of his highlights. They’re literally vulgar. Tucker is friends with Alex Jones who has given him a thorough walk-through of all the inconsistencies of 9/11. Live on his show he showed him videos of explosions in the basement, 100 eyewitness accounts describing them accurately, videos where you can clearly see the explosives leading the collapse all the way down, metal that was still molten 2 weeks later, etc, etc. Tucker was blind to all of it. Its not just a matter of what he believes, but why he believes it. So hear this clearly:. Tucker will only say, see, do and believe that which will keep him in his job at Fox. That is his only MO and he’s been dead consistent in it for 20 years. Don’t let changing attitudes about a few random topics fool you into thinking Tucker has changed. Once a week he tears down some alt medicine person or anti vaxxer or pro marijuana person because his show is almost completely owned and written by big pharma. This interview about Assange was intended to harm Trump in the eyes of anyone who believes Assange is being abused. That’s why Fox aired it, and Tcker, being Tucker, went along with it. Like he always does. Its all carefully crafted. He is a very controlled, very moderate opposition.
[Mod- deleted the last sentence for being inconsistent with the rest of the comment]

  9. Gezzah Potts on March 08, 2020  ·  at 5:37 pm EST/EDT

I have a huge amount of respect for Roger Waters and his principled support of Julian Assange and the Palestinians.
As I mentioned here recently, I’ve been on several street campaigns as well as protests trying to drum up support for Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning and trying to open people’s eyes.
Nearly everyone wants to keep their eyes firmly shut, including almost everyone I know.
    I find that deeply sad.
Most people have been so brainwashed, as soon as you say the name of the Wikileaks founder, their reaction ranges from anger to point blank refusal in acknowledging you’re there to quite nasty comments.
This is what the media has done. They are the lowest of the low. Mere presstitutes for the Anglo Zionist Empire.

  10. vot tak on March 08, 2020  ·  at 10:23 pm EST/EDT

Roger Waters is keeping what the “the 60s” actually ment alive. The man has all my respect.

    • Dutch on March 10, 2020  ·  at 11:56 am EST/EDT

You mean do drugs and tune out while they kill your President, take over your newsrooms and plan false flag attacks to start wars? Methinks Roger Waters is trying to make amends for the 60s if anything. He heard ‘Wont be Fooled Again’ and finally figured out what it was about 40 years later.

      • Ryan on March 10, 2020  ·  at 5:39 pm EST/EDT

Now tell us whether you think Waters is right about Assange, that’s all we need to know. Your attempt at a character assassination of Waters clearly has no good purpose.

      • vot tak on March 11, 2020  ·  at 12:51 am EST/EDT

Right out of guardiantalk. When someone posted praise for somebody the zionazi-gays considered an enemy, the guardianistas would invariably post character assassination smears. It was like clockwork.

        Welcome to guardianistaville.

You know the same coditions imposed on Julian Assange are imposed on countless inmates in the USA every day. No one cares. If you stand for one, you need to stand for ALL!
