MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. Crimea is Russian land and the theme of its territorial affiliation is closed forever, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said about the European Parliament’s just adopted resolution proposing an end to the anti-Russian sanctions in exchange for Crimea’s handover to Ukraine.
“I give the credit to the lobbyists who for the sake of Kiev or for some other parties involved are pressing for the return of Crimea to Ukraine,” she at a news briefing on Thursday. “The people work for money. That’s their business.”
Zakharova declared that “everything that may be connected with the theme of Crimea’s return is closed forever.”
“Crimea is a territory of Russia,” Zakharova said. “Any attempts, including those in the European parliament, to put forward maps with hand-drawn borders are sheer waste of time, money and effort.”
“The theme is closed,” Zakharova said. “It’s not meant for discussion.”
The European Parliament’s decision to support the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, an organization banned and classified as extremist in Russia, left Prosecutor General of the Republic of Crimea Natalia Poklonskaya shocked, she said on Thursday.

First Deputy Minister for Information Policy Emine Jeppar is positive that ‘the status of Crimean Tatars, an indigenous people of Crimea, is a guarantee of Crimea’s return to Ukraine.
“According to international law, and more specifically, the UN Declaration on Indigenous Issues, the Crimean Tatars have a right to self-determination, something the occupying country, i.e. Russia, denies them, choosing instead a policy of destruction at all levels – ranging from the language to physical violence. At all international platforms, this forum being no exception, Russia has been trying to create a myth of equal treatment and protection of the rights of Crimean Tatars. Even allegedly independent experts from the Russian Federation are working hard to justify Russia’s annexation of Crimea. It is all reminiscent of the Russian media, regardless of whether they are privately-owned or state-run, which are either subordinate to or controlled by the regime,” said Jeppar.
The First Deputy Minister also noted that if the peninsula’s indigenous people, i.e. Crimean Tatars, are ensured their right to self-determination after de-occupation of Crimea, it will guarantee Ukraine’s protection in Crimea. The 15th session of the Forum is scheduled to run until May 20. Each year, representatives of indigenous peoples of the world gather at the Forum to discuss problems their peoples are facing and look for solutions.
The Crimean Tatars are represented at the Forum by Eskender Bariev, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Ayla Bakkaly, USA Mejlis representative, Aslan Omer Kyrymly and Emine Jeppar, Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister for Information Policy.
Being a supreme deliberative body of the United Nations, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PF) is one of the three UN bodies dealing with matters related to indigenous peoples. The Forum also handles matters of economic and social development, culture, environment, education, health and human rights of indigenous peoples as far as protection of indigenous peoples is concerned. Established by ECOSOC in 2000, the Forum convenes for an annual session that usually takes place in May. The Forum is comprised of 16 members from different regions of the world.

The website called Mirotvorets (Peacekeeper) said the move comes “taking into consideration the reaction that the publication of the list of journalists has caused.” The closure has been also demanded by Ukraine’s human rights commissioner Valeria Lutkovskaya, the EU and anti-Ukrainian journalists in the country, it said.
Ukrainian MP Anton Gerashchenko has confirmed the report on his Facebook page. He said a group of anonymous hackers, the patriots of Ukraine, has decided to close the Mirotvorets project after a criminal case was opened against its staff. This came upon a request of a group of Ukrainian and foreign journalists and amid the witch-hunt launched by some Ukrainian media outlets.

SIMFEROPOL (Sputnik) — The European Parliament on Thursday called on the European Union member states to fund Mejlis’ activities outside Russia and impose sanctions on those responsible for banning the organization.
“At a time when the entire world is fighting extremism and terrorism, I have no words to comment on the European Parliament’s selective attitude. The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People is an extremist organization, this has been proven and ruled on in court. All the necessary evidence was submitted,” she told RIA Novosti.
Mejlis actively cooperates with various organizations recognized as terrorist groups globally, like Hizb ut-Tahrir, she stressed.
The Crimean Supreme Court on April 26 ruled that the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People is an extremist organization, and outlawed it in Russia, in response to a case filed by Poklonskaya.

Erdogan Criticizes NATO Over Low Military Activity in Black Sea
According to him, the security issues in the region should be tackled in full accordance with the document and tacking into account the interests of Black Sea nations, particularly Russia.
“The Black Sea should be turned into the sea of stability. I told the NATO secretary general that you are absent in the Black Sea and that is why it has nearly become a Russian lake. We should perform our duty as we are the countries with access to the Black Sea. If we do not take action, history will not forgive us,” Erdogan said in Istanbul.
NATO’s presence in the Black Sea should comply with the Montreux Convention, Karakus told Sputnik.
“The legal mechanism established by the document is aimed to maintain security for regional nations as well as create conditions to improve relations between them. It is not clear why Erdogan made this statement,” he added.
