The FSB confirms: Dariia Dugina was murdered by the SBU
(Machine translation)
The FSB reported on the identification of the customers and perpetrators of the murder of Daria Dugina.
The murder was planned by the Ukrainian special services.
The direct perpetrator of the murder was a citizen of Ukraine Natalia Vovk, born in 1979, who left Russia for Estonia on August 21. She arrived in Russia on July 23.
It is also reported that:
1. Vovk and her daughter Sofya Shaban rented an apartment in the house where Daria Dugina lived in Moscow.
2. A “Mini Cooper” was used to spy on Daria Dugina. The numbers were changed three times on it — the license plates of the DPR, Kazakhstan and Ukraine were used
As reported, Daria’s car was blown up using a remote detonation of an IED with a capacity of 400 grams of TNT.
The car was driven from the parking lot to the explosion site. The suspects’ phones have disappeared from the network. The investigation continues.
Documents and photos of the murderer of Daria Dugina – a “serviceman” of the terrorist organization “Azov Regiment” – Natalia Vovk (nee Shaban).
According to Russian sources, Natalia Vovk is now hiding in Estonia, and EU and NATO member state.
In other Ukronazi news,
Roger Waters has been added to the infamous website “Mirotvorets” (peacemaker) which lists the so-called “enemies of the Ukraine” and publishes their personal information:
For now it seems the intended victim was actually the daughter, a journalist.
So, motive?
Estonia now has a problem, what will they do with this hot potato?
Pepe Escobar says this is the new ISIS.
The New Gladio?
NATO’s Gladio was directed against NATO members, not just USSR/Russia.
It is certain the New Gladio will be again directed against any NATOstan member or friend that does not tow the line.
Remember Madrid 11, Bolognia, Moro, Herrhausen, a long list, all with plausible denial (RAF, ETA, IRA, UDB, FLB), but this time the Azov ID cannot be denied….
Yes, Paul Williams excellent book “OPERATION GLADIO” is a must read for anyone with a desire to learn how this war of terror came about. And who’s behind it. Masonic lodge P3 in Italy, Milano I believe, and the usual suspects MI6, Germany’s DVD, the CIA and its predecessor the SSA, and of course Central Bankers. No terrorist event happens without their participation, from: assassinations, 911 type events, to school shootings. It’s all very surreal until you study it a little. The last thing these creeps want is world peace. It scares them to death.

Kiev published a kill list a month ago, since taken down because of prompt activist alarm.
https://archive.ph/50otS from https://cpd.gov.ua/reports/
Speakers promoting narratives consonant with Russian propaganda
From Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
Acting head of CCD, Shapovalov, charged that people who deliberately spread disinformation are “information terrorists,” subject to be tried as “war criminals.”
This list had later Amnesty International added after the recent damning report on human shields by Kiev.
The only crime accused is free speech, and deliberation, by writers and journalists.
All on this list are from USA, Europe, India, and more. This list was funded and compiled with direct US attendance, which became public, and was withdrawn. By no means inactivated.
The Biden Disinformation Governance Board, of Nina Jankowicz, who called herself Scary Poppins saying the 1st Amendment is ‘fairy dust’ on Twitter. was also put on hold, rolled over, while the Kiev CCD, Jankowicz’s sandbox, compiled this list. Revolver News exposed her working for UK Integrity Initiative, paid with US tax-dollars, trained in Kiev. There is the link from CCD to the UK.
A state murder, Estonia a willing accomplice? A new Hero of Ukraine! Gloria in excelcis Natalya! Good luck with the rest of your life.
Russians are excellent police investigators. This Ukrainian woman 007 from azov shows us how most Ukrainians have become disgusting, misguided and deluded by the Anglo-Saxon empire of evil. She was sorry she hadn’t been working in a kitchen instead of being a Hollywood spy. Ukrainians don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into. Dangerous stupid fanatics.
Hey, Natalia Vovk is a freedom fighter. Show some respect. [heavy sarcasm]
Is it me? Since when did evil become good; and good become evil?
Most overtly on Inauguration day, 1989, when George Bush the Elder was sworn in as President of the USA. It didn’t become overt until Inauguration day 2009 when Barrack O’Bummer was sworn in as President of the USA.
Come on guys, dont look too far. The Russians will get a Ukro-terrorism for years just like with Chechens in the past. And since Ukro-Nazis brainwashed theirs kids starting at age 3, it’s gonna be a problem for a while. In other hand, if U.S. pushed Zelenschmuck to the end, it wont left any Ukainian. The Russia will take the Novorussia up to Transnistria and Poles will take the poor part of the Ukaine (the West). Kiev will become a poor state-city living from tourism.
Putin and Kadyrov made a miracle in Chechnya. The terrorism is under full control. If they did it once……….:-).
@Tommy Jensen
Yes, they did a very good job, buy it took time and resources, and losses of lives.
President Putin now has also the task to watch for internal terrorism, but with the resolve of the Russian people and their excellent teams of investigators, this problem too will be contained. As Dugin said ” revenge is not enough, we need a victory”! Prayers for the Russian soldiers and best wishes to my Russian brothers and sisters.
Funny thing is that the United States’ specialty, in foreign relations, has been sowing chaos throughout the world. Chaos being just another word (adjective even) for terrorism.
Now Russia, by setting fire to the Nazis hornet nest in the Ukraine is unleashing a kind of chaos all its own; another form of terrorism, special its own way.
The mess keeps getting messier.
Probably add it to the hot potato’s coming in a couple days, of which zelenski says its the last opportunity for Putin to make a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis.
If this event passes w/o a diplomatic resolution, he says its a no return to diplomatic means and then a military solution only, and his boss hasn’t told him he’s running out of bullets cause he’s got so many bosses promising bullets, that they have yet to exhaust their excess supply.
Weather or not the bullets make it to their final destination, the scare talk is the message heard and acted on around the world.
No bullets, no problem….this is moving to the n stage…..Z man has thrown down the glove, give us what we want……not sure how Russia will respond as the loc is going nowhere with winter fast approaching.
Cheers M
1. It is not clear if they knew with certainty who is driving in the car. Dugin decided to swap the cars “last moment” which is rather vague.
2. Even if they did know, they could have no way to call it off. Like they said, “phones went off the network”, which is understandable. Any person “pressing the button” would hard want his personal phone be registered at blast site in very peculiar moving pattern.
3. Additionally, what interest in calling off the murder did Ukrainians have?
If they called it off – What would be consequences then?
3a. The car runs away from the public spot. And the bomb with it. No way to extract the bomb, which costs money. Laughable? Well, Ukrainians are known for their scaredness, and also Ukrainian foot soldiers are forced to repair their cars at their personal money, while not even being paid. “Ukrainian army depot managers” was a meme back in the USSR
3b. …and the bomb also probably had 3G modem/phone as initiator. Meaning after it would be eventually discovered – it would give FSB some clues on who was making and transporting the bomb.
3c. That also would alert Dugins that Ukrainians escalated from their regular foaming at the mouth to actual attentatts.
So, calling off the murder would mean “never again”, would be loss of materiel without excuse, and would probably make part of terrorist network leaked to FSB.
To compare with that, continuing with the plan would be, at best, a limited success (killed not the intended subhuman vermin, but one of his family, still a peremoga). And at worse it can be explained as “Dugin’ fault, we did not have time”.
See, there was not any euroukrorational reason for saving that moskal life.

P. S. Anatoly Shariy also republished another surreal picture.
https://t.me/ASupersharij/10703?single
Some Daniil Shaban (her son? brother? father?) was selling that MINI car in Ukrainian online flea market. Right with the number plate published by FSB.
They are so totally sure there is absolutely nothing wrong in their terroristic crusade…
Well, again, Ukrainians are known to be stubborn and to push their being right in any circumstances and regardless of any facts.
P. S. More about the car – https://life.ru/p/1518208/amp
The car was allegedly bought with discount after crash in Honolulu. But it is now sold as “never repainted, never repaired”. Profits be sacred.
Their arrogance is remarkable.

As her cousin said as recent as month ago Vovk lived in Mariupol.
https://ria.ru/amp/20220822/dugina-1811391141.html
That cousin and her father seem still live there and would now probably have some interesting times.
This, however, was no concern for Vovk. Even close relatives who do not share ukro-nazi beliefs are trash not worth care. To complement questions “what do you say Ukrainians could shell their own towns” – even fathers see no pity.
So is Shaban her maiden name or her married name? Her daughter is surnamed Shaban , as is her ID card ,up above. Anyone know?
Before Russia does anything, and I’m sure this will be the case this time also, it pauses and takes a good long shot of strong vodka. Start a nuclear war over OBVIOUS Nazi (CIA) provocations after seeing above this for so long? I don’t think so, and it won’t be long before all those who use war to violate others will be held accountable! The whole rape of the Ukraine by the USA, in using this conveniently located nation as a battering ram against Russia’ sovereignty and patience, must be met with war crimes trials against those in the American government who helped push this “Nazification” face job of a, yes, volatile and emotional situation, but a situation that was used to push through the Maidan Coup, giving power to those who proceeded to do their abuse of Russian Ukrainians in an obvious goad to Russia! To all you Nazis in the Ukraine, you are brave to fight and protect your nation, but the behind-the-scenes orchestrators of these wars are what you would call “scum” They are using your nation as a battering ram, and you are NOT going to be the ones who profit here, not by a LONG shot! Fool you once, shame on me. Fool you twice, shame on you! Fool you thrice, you die!
A cold-blooded assassination. Why? Merely to make a point? The CIA teaching the SBU new tricks?
IMO the west will push the narrative that this was Putin ‘taking out one of his own, because of the invasion going poorly’.
No, the west is pushing the “far-right philosopher” and “Putin’s brain” line as justification for the terrorist attack.
AND they don’t call it a terrorist attack.
Interesting. This means that the FSB believes that Daria, and NOT her father, was the intended target. I believe that to be true because CNN was making a big point about saying just the opposite. I found their repeated quoting of ‘Russia experts’ talking about her father rather odd but now it makes sense.
BTW why target the daughter, is is just for the sake of terrorism, to intimidate the Russian population?
I read on some comments she was on the point to reveal “interesting information” about Bellingcat…
This is worth sorting out.
One of the nicely put arguments was that ukronazis target them/her because they had no security detail… Making them easy targets.
Targeting anyone with active protection would be much harder.
Simple. This is another provocation to push Russia to retaliate in a way that can give the empire of lies an excuse to join in the war.
The empire of lies is trying desperately to get into a war, any war in order to redirect the blame for the collapsing society away from the parasitical globalist oligarchs that rule it.
They don’t even care if that war is nuclear because that way they kill off the population that will inevitably turn on them and satisfy their depopulation/eugenics agenda at the same time.
The globalist oligarchs are the greatest threat to humanity in all of history. They’re malicious, arrogant and ignorant and they have their hands on the nuclear triggers of the west.
If Vovk is still in Estonia, what are the chances of her being extradited to Russia ( does an extradition treaty exist between the 2 countries ? )
If she has already returned to Ukraine, she had better stay a long way away from any territories at risk of being captured by Russian or allied forces.
Probably zero. The Estonians are just the same Nazis as those in Kiev.
And they are all run by US and UK, countries which never extradite “good terrorists”
Erdogan still sticks to Swedish and Finnish terrorist extradition as a NATO condition. Looks like Sweden might offer up 1.
Who knows who else could be sacrificed? Look what Kiev did to Azov POW’s recently….
Saker, I think that Russia should send somebody to get her. She must pay for what she has done.
I remember reading Dmitry Orlov recounting how Russia liquidated the gangster leaders of terrorists who created murder and mayhem across Chechnya and Dagestan after the Wars were officially over and they were hiding abroad.
They do have operatives, who live in the shadows, and cannot be avoided for ever.
It this assassin is not handed over, they can, I’m sure, find other ways to bring justice down on her head.
What are the chances FSB will be asking Estonia for help or permission to extradite ?
It’s more like the West murdering their opponents, no matter who they are, through the SBU.
One of the problems with such a line of approach is good old fashioned mission creep.
How long before other opponents of The Official Narrative (TON) – like Gender Critical voices, or anti-war activists – are similarly targeted (not necessarily via the SBU)?
What we are dealing with here is a group of people with the mindset of a mardy arsed five year old. They cannot cope, in the words of Alexander Dugin, with the existence of any “ideological, geopolitical, economic and socio-cultural alternatives.”
Therefore anyone and everyone not complying must be eliminated.
One does not have to subscribe to Alexander Dugin’s, or anyone else’s, brand of nationalism to recognise the reality of the elephant in the room. This is an existential struggle between the 99% of reasonable people and the 1% of sociopaths in charge of the collective West for a viable future.
Since the FSB believe Dugina was the intended victim, has anyone seen the journalists publications anywhere?
The Western media was ready to report this assasination with back stories on the victims, whether or not it was directed at Father or Daughter (I think the latter). It seems unlikely that Ukraine would have been allowed to carry out such an operation without at least the tacit support of its NATO sponsors. The announcement by Zelensky to be ready for “ugly” attacks from Russia suggests that the stage is being set for another false flag atrocity. Although I understand the Russian position of only doing what is necessary and consistent with the objectives of the SMO, it might finally be time for a real demonstration of what Russia is actually capable of. The West is going to force this eventually anyway, so why wait for more provocation? What is to be gained by continually raising a threshold that is bound to be reached?
Russia should not change their winning strategy which is grinding NATO to dust. I assume that is excactly the motivation for this disgusting operation. It appeals to those who think it is time to take of the velvet gloves in Ukraine.
Just read on BBC. Daria was placed on sanction list by UK in July. She was the target! Unphantonable.
All hell will unleash.
A former US Marine John Dougan, now living in Russia, did a short documentary about Azovstal in July.
Daria Dugina took part in this Documentary. I have also read that Daria was working on finding out about the people behind Bellingcat.
https://www.bitchute.com/video/AvBvVO2bmHAg/
The Uber-Progressive West should just issue FATWAs …to underscore what those lists really mean.
Then things would be a lot clearer, like: “Boris Johnson and MI6 issue FATWA against Darya Dugina through their Bellingcat cut-out” in response to Khomeini’s FATWA against Salman Rushdie.
That way the low IQ Westerner can better keep score, regarding how many journalists and authors each side has assassinated.
Westerners would then have a better idea about how precise their program is in targeting the offenders verses innocent bystanders and family members . For example:
Ten family members, including children, dead after US strike in Kabul
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/29/asia/afghanistan-kabul-evacuation-intl/index.html
The West ought to state whether Aleksandr Dugin was the target or if they did another “ooopsie” by off-ing innocents and family members, etc.
/sarc
Rest assured, the U.K. will eventually be releasing all kinds of FATWAs soon enough. So will France, Germany, and Sweden.
If she was indeed an AZOV battalion member of SBU, then the chain of command goes above Zelensky, to Igor Kolomoisky and Jewish (Khaza) Oligarchs to whom we ascribe the intent to construct the New Khazaria project in the ‘rump state’ of Ukraine – from Odessa to Kyiv. We can include Victoria Nuland, the Kagan’s, and Anthony Blinken in this operation. Dugin’s opinion on geopolitical fate of the Ukraine was fairly clear, and it did not appear he viewed the are from the Odessa to Kiev as a “rump state” to where the Israeli might escape the war crimes they’ve committed, while situating themselves nicely within the new silk road, and centrally in the emerging Eurasian economic titan.
Can you give your obsession with Jews and Khazarians a break?
Please cut it out, this is ridiculous!
yes the Urkainian nazis are avid assassins – as are the Israelis’ but it didn’t take Russia long to find the killer
and the Ukrainian nazis are fully capable of wanting to kill a reporter who is exposing their crimes without
permission from the Jewish mafia
Didn’t seem ridiculous to me. Me thinks he is close to spot on. This is way over everybody’s head in the rank and file. Probably, maybe he cast a wide net? But I wouldn’t rule out anyone at this point. This game is for ALL the marbles.
The Khazarian Jews are not just central to the plot, they’re 80% of all of this Ukrainian mayhem that spawned all of this.
And I say this as an evangelical protestant Christian who was brought up in churches in which the Jews of the New Testament, and thereafter, and Israel in general, are regarded as God’s misguided but well-meaning children.
The last 10 years have really opened my eyes as to how childish, simplistic and utterly wrong that was.
You are still wrong, so please stop posting this Jew/Khazarian nonsense here.
Thank you
Andrei
I still have some question marks about this story so far, but maybe I’m overlooking things, ok?
– if somebody is to be ‘taken out’, is that done quietly (accident), or out in the open to see for anyone, to make it clear that some kind of ‘revenge’, ‘example’ is taking place?
– the car she took was supposed to be driven by her father, right? Still I don’t conclude she was the target.
– it doesn’t appear too professional to me. Normally a logistic team surrounds it, and one or two ‘scouts’ are at stake for preparation, even ‘scouts afterwards’ to check the result, the real killers are just for a short term around avoiding CCTV’s. Transportation will be burnt (and not sold afterwards online, but maybe that’s a mislead). Even the regular criminal gangs do it like that, so it would be expected from a secret service to do that evenly or even better, right?
Could it even be, that the ‘narrative’ is directed towards a direct hit on Daria to divert the attention towards her father?
Now I would like to propose a little thought. When we feel ‘outrage’ and ’emotion’ about things we hear or read, let’s keep in mind that maybe people might want our emotions for a reason.
Cheers and keep safe, Rob
In today’s surveilance world, one-man hit job is actually the “professional” way when on “hostile” territory. The more people you involve, the easier it is to make a mistake and the harder it is to evac them after the “job”.
As for any logic in this – do not search for it. These folks are just a bunch of presumtuous fools. They really believe they can intimidate Russians. Good luck with that. Their superiorist arrogance is their undoing. Same as for the NSDAP folks before.
In reality these fools just granted a huge coup to Russia. Both domestically and internationally. The gloves were off for some time. But not it is official. ANY reaction of Russia will be seen as justified. No matter the magnitude. This act of idiocy actually removed the last “shacles” from Putin’s hands.
It sad, but the Lady’s death was her last gift to the homeland.
Rob, the only purpose of terrorism is to terrorise. Living in South Africa before it was handed to the ANC we had to contend with a lot of stuff like this, limpet mines in burger places during school holidays, a remotely detonated car bomb outside a Durban nightclub which killed three young ladies one night (he bomber became a folk hero to the ANC subsequent to 1994. The Nationalist party which governed at the time charged him, convicted him and jailed him, but that was like taking a gun to a knife fight, because the ANC pardoned him as soon as they came to power. The correct recourse was a long drop and a short rope. I trust that the Russian authorities will ensure a short existence for the bomber.
Interesting to speculate about Cui Bono:
a). a few angry Ukrainians seeking revenge, etc?
b). Ukraine as a country looking more powerful?
It is difficult to come up with a list as the PR seems almost completely negative for the Ukrainian government. Russians will likely be moved to greater solidarity, and the Ukrainian govt looks like a terrorist state blowing up young women.
The lack of an obvious “Bono” for the Ukraine makes me think someone else was behind it, at least in a support role even if the Ukraine was in the lead. If so, the desired outcome may have been, as in other recent provocations, simply to pressure Russia to escalate in order to save face.
another words, you’re saying it’s the ukronazi’s masters, the U-SUK group?!! cos the bono is them selling more weapons around the world, esp their natzo group, and keep on demonising putin and the russians!!
Cui bono?
The narrative, that’s what/who.
From videos I have seen of her in public debate or video situations, Dugina appears to have been a very articulate young woman, putting herself and her views “out there,” so to speak.
Outspoken, very committed, clearly passionate with a forceful verbal delivery.
I believe she was a rising media presence. She was an advocate for “Christian feminism.”
Someone didn’t want her to proceed along her obvious career path to become an important element in public debate in Russia and internationally.
An attractive, articulate, forceful young woman is far more potentially dangerous than an old man with a long beard.
That her stalkers were two other women is . . . . the stuff of novels. Of course a women and her daughter also raised no suspicions than a lone man—for instance, a fellow moving in to Dugina’s apartment building to surveille her. But how could this be done so easily?
Were strings pulled there?
She will to be destroyed, but, following the chain of command, this is where Iskander needs to placed. Let’s see how that goes. Iranians certainly showed the way and it works.
I think MI6 HQ in London is already on Russias list over command and control centers.
Maybe it is so but I developed like some kind of ‘allergy’ for all big cases solved entirely (basically) within 24 hours or less. The speed itself raises questions. If you can know so much so quickly, even solving the case, couldn’t you with your large capacities spot the anomalies in time to thwart the crime? It’s also, to me, unprofessional-like to solve a case so quickly: Why not wait at least another 24 hours to check again? Is there pressure to come up with answers so quickly; and if so, does this pressure affect the investigation negatively? If the investigation is then wrong or takes another direction, would this be admitted or would the early mistake never be acknowledged…?
All these and more questions properly arise, and ought to, when you solve a big case within just 24 hours. There are those who might think I’m insinuating something else. I’m not insinuating anything. It’s about why I can’t fully trust such an early conclusive report, which is a pity if the investigation is all correct (but not my fault).
so I presume you had a severe allergic reaction on september 12th 2001?
Given the – purported – perpetrators rented a flat in her house and then disappeared, it is not surprising at all.
This would have popped up on the first round of “sourounds” checks, and they could trail from there.
This is no 1990s where most of the stuff was analog, there were no traffic cams etc.
Also, it is not unforseen that the alleged perpetrators were under a “light” watch and it was not clear what they were up to – until it happened. Once it happened, it would have been very fast to connect the dots.
That said, they are still SUSPECTS, not charged.
It is very likely the women were – in some way – involved. But it is anything but certain they were the actual killers. They may have as well been “just” the surveilance party.
SBU will have their revenge! Roger Waters should wear UKROP list as a badge of honour UKROP SCUM
Relax everyone, judging by the photos, she will soon die of Botox poisoning.
How long before neocon MSM describes Natalia Vovk as a political prisoner like they do for the U.S. basketball player? They will claim it was a false flag attack orchestrated by Putin because Putin does stuff like that when he did the apartment building bombing (what the Neocons say, not what I think)
If they have this very detailed information on the perpetrator, what info did they have before the attack? Why wasn’t the terrorist being watched? Just wondering.
From the get go, the engineering of 911, when it became obvious even to those who are not experts, they are not going to back down. After they spent tens of $ trillions, bankrupted themselves and their vassal states, they seem stubbornly adamant to continue to the bitter end. It is very scary. I hope cool heads eventually will prevail.
Maybe the beast will calm down after destruction of Germany. Germany who dared to make independent decisions with Russia. Oh yes, they want break up and own Russia, but that dream will never happen.
Due to the consensus in the West as well as in NATO that Russia cannot be allowed to win in Ukraine, and the fact that Ukraine is close to defeat – applying occam’s razor principle – it may be that:
1. The West requires Russia to attack a NATO country to activate Article 5 – as this will be easier to sell to the world.
2. Boris Johnson and the UK military are very active in supporting Estonia where the assassin is operationally based.
3. It is believed in the West that Alexander Dugin is Putin’s brain.
4. The West is hoping that this provocation will drive Putin’s brain to convince Putin that an attack on Estonia is justified.
I can see a possibility that a narrative can be created in the west to create a false-flag explained by recent events. This is how Empire have started wars after being “attacked” multiple times.
I’m worried about the situation in Kiev, with officals being encouraged to work from home. It seems like an obvious preparation for a massive attack. Potentially a chemical one.
I also read the UK is preparing it’s army for deployment to the continent in the near future. Combat style.
Ms. Dugina was sanctioned by England and by the United States, according to The New York Times:
“Last month, the British government imposed sanctions on Ms. Dugina, citing her as a ‘frequent and high-profile contributor of disinformation in relation to Ukraine.’ The United States imposed sanctions on her in March, describing her as the chief editor of an English-language disinformation website owned by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Russian oligarch known as ‘Putin’s chef.'” NYT (8/22/22)
Why does it always have to be the hard way? While ithe murder won’t affect outcome of the SMO, this is a pretty big ‘fail’ anyway I look at it. During the mass surrender in Muripol, I assumed that the fighters and ‘[pretend?] hostages’ alike had a high-resolution picture taken, DNA, and their documents scanned into a system in case they were ever picked up again. Not just at the battle of Mariupol, but for every fighter captured so far. JEarly on Ukraine was advocating special operations deep in Russia. I believe Auslander alluded to the the potential problem in some of his post (one yesterday iirc). And 24 hours after the fact, a very publicly available Azov regiment ID is available.
From RT: https://www.rt.com/russia/561318-dugina-suspect-vovk-video/
“..A photo ID of Vovk in the uniform of Ukraine’s National Guard was published in April on the Russian internet, as part of a dox of neo-Nazi Azov regiment members. It lists her surname as Shaban – the surname her daughter used when entering Russia, according to the FSB..”
So why wasn’t that info incorporated into the Russia/DPR visa system where it was needed? The assumed name (Shaban) doesn’t fly as an excuse. Even the lowest end phone has a camera that can do face recognition for comparison. Doesn’t have to be anywhere close to 100%. It’s enough for just a ‘possible’ match to warrant extra scrutiny. So now I’m wondering how many others got through. This is going to be tough to defend against if the info (many lives were sacrificed to obtain) doesn’t reach where it’s needed in time to help.
Her face reflects the spirit of Nazism: fanaticism, delusion, self loathing. Why has Nazism become more deeply rooted in Ukraine than in any other country in the world? I know that Bandera was instrumental in spreading Nazism in Ukraine. I know the USA has been very successful in marketing Nazism to to the Ukrainian people. But I think that the main reason why Nazism is so deeply rooted in Ukraine is that the Ukrainian people, in general, are particularly moronic, and have bad mental health.
I saw a photo of a 11 year old Roma girl taped to a pole in Kiev and spray painted yellow and blue by Ukrainian thugs. Not too cool.
As I understand it, many key Hitler Nazis escaped to Ukraine and have covertly governed it ever since. The current Nazi torture of gypsies tied to trees and lamp posts and publicly beaten, is a horrifying manifestation of Nazi sadism that’s totally tolerated by the average Ukrainian.
But Nazis have also been a major influence on US politics.
In my view, the entire West is rapidly turning uber Totalitarian.
Ironically, however, it will soon be disempowered economically and maybe even militarily, by the very nations it currently, and wrongly, accuses of authoritarianism.
Stay strong and FREE!!
The hope that this resort to killing innocence will condemn these terrorists to exposure as being YankeeNATO as they always were – 500yrs Brit & 250yrs Yankee war on humanity for the money Vs the RF+++
So far every decade they’ve doubled down. Take care
Moscow is littered with cameras. You can’t be anywhere without 3 cameras staring at you and recording every move. And all that information is ran through neural network of face recognition software. You don’t do naughty things in Moscow, you WILL be found. Quickly is given, better question is why it wasn’t prevented.
Probably because Vovk was a nobody before this. The Cameras picked her up, but she was not in any database before this.

Probably you haven’t read the two cameras that covered the parking lot of the event the Dugins attended, were either broken or disabled. Coincidence? Only the ongoing investigation can get to find out.
“…Quickly is given, better question is why it wasn’t prevented.”
Because it was an intel operation, that’s why, and anyone with a modicum of intelligence can plan a plot of this caliber, anywhere in the world, against any counter-intel. All they need is to know the basics of clandestine operations, sabotage, networking behind enemy lines, explosives, and weapons to be used in a hostile environment.
You’re asking Russia’s counter-intel agencies to be soothsayers.
That’s another line of work.
Lone Wolf

It was not considered necessary to give the Dugins any protection. Apparently they took no such steps themselves.
Regretfully..
——————–
It was a cheap shot, an opportunity coup.
Why would the Dugins ever imagine they needed security to move in Moscow? Because of virtual threats from Ukronazis, thousands of miles away? Nobody could have forecasted the deep hate these orcs (pardon the orcs) have against Russia and Russians.
Nobody.
The assassination was planned long ago, to coincide with Ukroreich “independence” anniversary.
As speculations go, some are saying the target was her father, so the Ukropithecus could go on a PR binge on “independence” day giving the brainwashed some circus (no bread) about how they have killed “Putin’s Rasputin,” the mastermind behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Another speculation is that she was the target, her vocal support for the SMO, her visit to the DPR, made her a target. Her assassination was calculated to hurt her father more than just killing him.
We may never know.

Russia has made this very public – NATOstan has a major problem! Their problem solving skills are well known!
On Dugina’s assassination.
1) It has been proven without any doubt Ukraine’s Security Services were behind the assassination of Daria Dugina.
2) Dugina’s assassin has been identified, a nazi female service woman of the Azov Regiment, Natalia Vovk.
3) The assassin’s itinerary has been established, she entered Russia from the DPR in a Mini-Cooper with DPR tags, changed them to Kazakhstan tags while in Moscow, and left Russia with Ukrainian license plates.
4) The bomb that killed Dugina had 400g of TNT.
5) Dugina’s assassin could not have entered Russia with explosives, it is obvious she had a sophisticated, clandestine support network in-situ that facilitated her task, from finding a room to rent in the same building as Daria Dugina, to surveillance and providing her with explosives for the operation.
6) For that kind of network to operate freely and efficiently, first they need to know their surroundings, in this case Moscow; second, they need to blend, language and otherwise, not to call attention; third, they have to set residence for a period long enough to allow them to develop logistics, infrastructure, safe houses, and contacts, for the safety of their operations.
7) A network of this kind requires different skills and sophistication than a network operating in Donbass, e.g., those who killed Givi, Motorola, Zakharchenko. Moscow is a cosmopolitan metropolis, with robust surveillance and internal security.
8) It is doubtful the investigation will find any accomplices, the assassin will never meet anyone, no phone communication, oral or written, means no electronic traces. Instructions were given at drop and pick-up locations, already established before she entered Moscow. She was there enough time to familiarize herself with the surroundings.
9) The caliber of the target, and the sophistication of the operation, bomb-making included, points out to a join task force of Collective West intel agencies, and Ukrainian SBU. Now is up to the Investigative Committee, with the help of a Russian counter-intel task force, the best of the best, to find this network. They might have left Russia, if they were there for this operation only, or they might remain as moles.
10) The declarations of traitorous idiot Ilya Ponomaryov about a so-called “National Republican Army” were a cover-up, a diversion, used to help with the denial orchestrated by clown Ze and his mafia. Blaming an internal, Russian rebel group, a figment of his or SBU’s imagination, allowed Ukropithecus to pre-emptively blame Russia for the response that is coming, while pretending innocence. FSB destroyed their lies, their cover-up, they are now leaving Kiev in mass.
11) Russia’s response will be cold, calculated, methodical, and deliberate. Not a revenge, mind you, a reckoning. It could be tomorrow, or in a month, we will know it when it happens.
12) As for Estonia, which provided the getaway for the assassin, they can expect to be crushed at the first opportunity, if they refuse to collaborate with Russia by not extraditing the assassin, deny helping with the case, or block Russia from investigating further.

The assassin was a whore for the Azov gang.
The victim, a Russian patriot, a philosopher, a thinker, a woman whose contribution to Russian society and beyond, was already felt in different realms. She was an expert on Turkey.
A gap as big as the Grand Canyon separated these two women whose fate crossed in a fateful and fatidic Sunday.
The values of the assassin, or lack thereof, can be picked-up with a poop-scooper.
She took her daughter along to, allegedly, help her place the bomb under the car.

Regarding your pt.12.
After all there is a precedence for these cases. When Afganistan refused to extradite the known terrorist Bin-Laden, NATO bombed the country back to the stoneage and invaded looking for the terrorist. Took them awhile to leave after they tracked him down as well.
This is how the Rule-based-order works, Estonia should now, afterall their part of it.
The Taliban were prepared, and off to extridite ObL, if eveidence was provided linking himto9-11. It was the U$ which refused the conditions of his extradition.
Es sollte Ihnen bekannt sein das 911 ein Insidejob war.Das ist im Kommentar nicht zu erkennen,Sorry !
You should be aware that 911 was an inside job. You can’t see that in the comments, sorry!
Genau, exactly.
And China officially declared 9/11 to be done by the USA itself. No more ambiguity there!
Correct so far as Pres. G.W. Bush called Saudi Prince Bandhar, BAE British Aerospace Engineering honcho, “Uncle”. See photos of both back at the Ranch.
American writer Patrick Lawrence pins the infantile imperialist establishment on 9/11 – a total breakdown.
Bin Ladin a “known terrorist”? Accused yes. An asset of the CIA? yes again,
ObL1 had long since died in a Kuwaiti hospital from kidney failure.. so was that ObL2 or ObL3?
Not sure Natalia Vovk is nearly as safe and free as she thinks. Yes, Vovk may be skilled at evasion, but what of the 12 year old when she learns of just how much trouble they’re both in? At some point the daughter will see the news and make the connection. I don’t expect the daughter to turn her own mother in, but the stress could lead to a mistake or lapse that exposes Vovk at some point in the future. And the daughter is about the right age for the usual tick-tok social media and parent-teen conflict. More opportunities for a lapse of opsec
I can’t help but think there’s more than an even chance both Sofya Shaban and Vovk are going to be killed by SBU. How is Vovk useful to the SBU in future operations? As currently the well photographed, most wanted assassin that has captured the attention of the public in the age of the always-on camera phone, networked CCTV, crowd scanning facial recognition algorithms? Ukraine officially denied anything to do with the murder, SBU can’t have anything to do with her, and for sure I don’t think Western services will be using Volv for a while. Meanwhile there’s the future risk that she’s extradited, captured, or implicates others. Or the daughter talks carelessly. In a way, they’re safer in the custody of Russia with the ban on capital punishment

Notice North East didn’t use the word “watch,” he said,
“…12 year old when she learns of just how much trouble they’re both in? At some point the daughter will see the news…”
“She learns” and “she see” does not require watching. She could be playing with her cell phone and her mother’s picture will be splashed front page somewhere.
And probably she doesn’t even need to “see” the news, allegedly, she was part of the operation, placing the bomb under the car. That’s the rumor, we will know details for certain after the investigation releases some info.

As of last night, a woman who resembled Dasha Dugina’s killer is staying at the Ibis Hauptbahnhof Hotel in Vienna, as reported by concerned locals. The reservation was for one night – it is likely that the perpetrator of the terrorist attack will travel even further.
Natalya Vovk has two other women and a child with her.

Bringing her 12 year old daughter along would have thrown me off. The speed of her identification shows she was probably lightly watched but probably to notice who she interacted with. What kind of mother brings their 12 year old daughter along on a car bomb operation in Russia?
This Azov Nazi fleeing to Estonia reminds me of an old saying: “You can run, but you can’t hide”. Doesn’t matter where on earth she is, she is not safe and never will be. This is the fate of the assassin.
Except that by missing her intended target, Natalia Vovk is a murderer — not an assassin.
What grabs my attention is how these Baltic states — Lithuania, Latvia, and now Estonia — are really making a name for themselves. Mainly, as yapping little Chihuahuas, with their fake pearl NATO collars, nipping at the Russian bear. Bears paying attention to. [pun intended] What could possibly go wrong?
As a member of the Ukrainian Nazi resistance, a freedom fighter for Evil, Vovk will be secretly spirited back to the Ukraine to fight again. [sarcasm] But she will. To try again.
The assssin is a known azov member, and moves into the same building as her victim, all the while relying on 3 sets of license plates. Why was the crack that vovk fell through so large?
The recent purges of UK antiwar academics https://thegrayzone.com/2022/08/21/bbc-antiwar-academics-uk-intel/ was clear evidence of UK Fascism.
Now this appalling Nazi assassination!!!
It’s abundantly clear that global Fascism is rising.
A major part of this, is propaganda. This shocking analysis in today’s Global Times https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202208/1273594.shtml shows the success of this tactic in Australia.
Clearly, the West is becoming increasingly decadent and alienated from the core values of moral decency and responsibility.
The East, on the other hand, seems to be ‘stepping up to the plate’; ready to take over the future management of the global population and environment. And increasingly, that’s looking like a GOOD THING!!
So like the US controlled ISIS terrorists, the new kids on the block will be US controlled Banderite Neo-Nazis targeting anyone and everyone who is supportive of Russia, The BRICS, and critical of Kiev or the G-7 imperial rat-nest.
As usual, Uncle Shmuel is spreading love and joy throughout the world.
The news that a woman, Natalia Vovk, took out another woman, Daria Dugina, was certainly a shock to the system. My system anyway. Is the fact that a woman murdering another woman with a car bomb as practically unheard of as I once thought? Is it female conceit or are more women engaging in violent, criminal behavior than ever before?
Or, are women, the “gentler sex”, having gained “equal” access to the means of obtaining the advanced skills necessary to blow people up, using these new-found skills, and putting them to “good” use?
Maybe women will never be equal to men, but they sure are proving to be the same as men, fully capable of cold-blooded murder.
My incredulity is fully strained.
Wow.
Nothing to do with her being a Woman, many Nazi camp guards were female,my Dads Army Unit was at Bergen Belsen at the liberation,he saw these Women SS guards close up,he said every one of them looked devoid of humanity.
“Natalia Vovk is now hiding in Estonia, and EU and NATO member state.”
I hope someone can “Reach Out ” & find her & finish her off ! A deserved result.
Reading on Intel Slava that Vovk moved to Austria and stayed at a hotel for the night… on the move to another destination.
Meanwhile Western media are suggesting that RAF are using volunteers as fighters as they are losing soldiers at a rapid rate… sending them to the front lines without training. Now where have I heard this story before? Oh yes, the AngloSaxon world likes to invert reality.
No doubt some Hollywood material will be produced after this war is over… to demonise the victorious Russians again to the point of declaring them the losers. Cold war tactics to be repeated in another forlorn attempt to isolate Russia … to whose benefit? Certainly not in the interests of the West but inexplicably to their detriment.
Yes, the AngloSaxon world has really gone mad and no signs of recovery.
“It is not my place to tell you what should or should not be done. The world in which you intend to correct the mistakes you have made is different from the world in which these mistakes were made.
Now you are at this crossroads. And you want to decide. But there is no decision to be made anymore. The choice was made long ago.
And in this despair, which is transcendent, you find an ancient wisdom. That the philosopher’s stone can always be found, although despised and buried in the mud.
This may seem trivial in the face of annihilation. Until annihilation happens.
Then all the great projects and the great plans finally reveal themselves and are exposed for what they are.”

As I referred to earlier, depending on the severity of what I read on the “Russian channels on Telegram” (in quotes so as not to be taken literally) I might post again.
And what I have been reading is disturbing. Continuing on the current course both the Russian military operation and even the Putin government are on a course to collapse.
Exaggeration? Pessimism? I hope so.
However, this is not what my readings lead one to believe. This is all very serious, not only for the Russian people but for all of us oppressed by the Imperium around the world.
Just today (8/23), in yet another daily terrorist attack, a decision center was hit, but not by Russia but by the UcroNazis: the Donetsk administration premises in the center of the city – something unprecedented, it had not occurred even in the 2014/2015 period.
https://t.me/readovkanews/40642
Days ago (8/14), the Wagner PMC headquarters in Popasnaya was attacked. The night before, Yevgeny Prigozhin had been on the scene.
https://t.me/RVvoenkor/22976?single
Speaking of Yevgeny Prigozhin, when confronted with the fact that in Russia the provision of military services by private companies is a crime, so the mercenaries of Wagner PMC must answer to the law, he did not hesitate to answer, “Yes. But they are heroes, those who are needed now. And the country will not survive without them.”
Russia’s very survival in the hands of a private military company, this is the point SMO has reached….
https://t.me/Prigozhin_hat/1614
While a tiny group of Russian billionaires spend more money on their private yachts than is needed to manufacture a frigate (so needed for the Black Sea fleet), the plight of the Russian population is no match for the country’s wealth:
“At least 20 million [out of 144 million, 14%] people live below the poverty line in Russia. According to research by the HSE Center for Civil Society Studies, nearly 70 percent of Russians experience financial difficulties.”
https://t.me/narodpv/2085
Consider:
In War in the Information Age, the line of contact is on every person. With victory implying the winning of the hearts and minds of a population, more than the territory they inhabit.
Hence the extreme importance of keeping track of the psycho-emotional component of individuals and social groups.
Reading Russian channels on Telegram (now without quotation marks) is important not exactly as a source of information, or even opinion, but to gauge the hearts and minds of the most active portion of Russian civil society.
In this sense would the murder of Darya Dugin in Moscow be a crossroads, as referred to in the excerpt from the film I posted above?
So far the Russian population, except on the border with Ukraine, had not yet directly experienced the war. What public person can now feel safe in Moscow? Everyone has become a target…
The very name “Special Military Operation” has been a way of denying the obvious: This is a war of the Imperium against Russia. And a war of annihilation.
This is what the excerpt from the film is about: the denial of reality and the consequences of our choices.
When we finally suppose we are facing a crossroads, it is only our mind deceiving us once again. There is no crossroads. The choice has already been made, long ago.
What were the choices made, and still ongoing, of the Putin government? The diplomatic route when it replaces the military option decrees the bankruptcy of both.
The only diplomacy possible in a war of life and death is at the point of an AK-47.
How did Ukrainian terrorists, such as Natalia Vovk [named as the perpetrator of the attack on Dugin’s daughter] come about?
This is a question that can only be answered through another question: whom does the Putin government represent?
Far from representing the interests of the Russian population as a whole, Putin primarily defends the economic interests of the ruling class in Russia. In particular the commodity exporters.
The “Agreement for Grain” is quite illuminating to understand this.
The 7 largest Russian grain exporting companies (2020/2021) concentrate about 85% of the industry.
4 of them are private, 1 joint stock company, and 2 are transnational.
Between the interests of these oligarchs and those of a child killed by the bombing in Donbass, or a resident of Belgorod, or a worker restoring the bridge in Kherson, or an employee of the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye, and all the other Russian citizens attacked in this war of Imperium against Russia, the distance is immensely greater than between the latter and a Brazilian resident in our unhealthy slums.
When analyzed only as a dispute between countries, world geopolitics is reduced to its most superficial aspect, often illusory and incapable of explaining reality from its deepest causes.
For this it is necessary to approach world geopolitics from the perspective of the globalized dispute between transnational economic mega-interests.
Only through this method is it possible not only to understand but to transform reality.
《So Maidan happened. And Putin betrayed the resistance of the Russian Spring. He refused to take Mariupol. He actually abandoned millions of citizens like Natalia Vovk [named as the perpetrator of the attack on Dugin’s daughter], throwing them into the arms of Bandera and Western structures.
Mariupol, one of the main cities of the Russian Uprising, where Russians literally threw themselves against the tanks with their bare hands, eventually became the center of the deployment of the Azov Regiment and various anti-Russian Western NGOs.
The work of reformatting the consciousness of the local population began. And 8 years went by. Now we have the result of this work.
And now let’s wonder if the West, the US, the European Union could train such successful saboteurs and terrorists from people like Vovk if Putin had not betrayed the Russian Spring in 2014 and buried the Russian uprising in southeastern Ukraine over the Minsk Accords?
The answer, I am sure, is obvious to everyone. Of course not. 》

The liner notes to Dylan’s 1974 album, ‘Blood on the Tracks’ state: “he took the roiled sea and put it in a glass”. So have you done here in these posts. Thank you for the lucid depiction of the struggle facing Russia. At last the Russian populace has an idea of the visceral hatred visit1ed on them by the collective west. They hate Russia, they hate Russians, they hate the idea of Russia, their civilization, culture, art, sport, historical memory. Ukraine founded its state development on race hatred (John Helmer’s usage). It has been so since the time of the Teutonic Knights. This is a struggle to the death, total unequivocal capitulation, annihilation, a 1000 year burden laid on this generation. You are correct, in 2015, after the encirclement at Debaltsevo, Hollande and Merkel hustled their asses to Moscow, to beg Putin to call off the People’s Militia from advancing west, Kharkov to Odessa was theirs. Mr. Putin did betray millions of Russian speakers. There was no need for Kinzhal, Avangard, Sarmat, it was all theirs. And here we are today, the whole earth imperilled. NATO, the DC and UK hawks, will not back out, they will press for a final confrontation. Will Russia exist as a state? I watched a video, an Australian fellow inside a Moscow shopping center, 7 PM on a Sunday (maybe the Sunday after the murder, though I think before). He was demonstrating the proliferation of goods, choices available. Shoppers strolling leisurely, banks of back-to- school displays. It could have been Minneapolis! My God! There’s a war going on! During the first weeks of the SMO continual agitation, no sleep, long periods of wakefulness during the night. I read everything I could find online (not mass hysteria media). I read until my eyes hurt, hard to focus. I have withdrawn from many forms of commerce, no joy in it (lest I run into some random display of blue and yellow), seldom listen to music. Now the war has been brought to the streets of Moscow, will Mr. Putin finally decide to start something?
@Steve the Beave
To claim that “Putin did betray” is a strong statement that needs to be properly contextualized.
If it were not for Mr. Putin, and the group of which he is the most visible face, Russia would have been completely destroyed by the neoliberal devastation that occurred in the 1990s.
If there is still Russia, much is due to Mr. Putin. All credit to him.
Mr. Putin is well known and admired in Brazil, even among the poor population with little cultural formation. And this in spite of all the propaganda against him, broadcast by the MSM in Brazil.
For Brazilians, Mr. Putin represents a rare type of leadership in our history: a nationalist.
On the other hand, Putin is not perfect. Like every notable character in history he makes tragic mistakes.
And even “nationalism” carries within it an insidious trap.
Without it, no people is able to defend its territory and autonomy, becoming a colony. Its excess, on the other hand, causes arbitrary borders to be imposed on the consciousness that we all live in the same house: planet Earth.
What do the seers tell us? There are tracks of blood everywhere, even here in these comments. These are times of immense danger. This is a war for our hearts and minds. Only we ourselves, united with each other, can achieve the final victory. No matter how many battles we lose.
《I ran into the fortune-teller
Who said, “beware of lightning that might strike”
I haven’t known peace and quiet
For so long I can’t remember what it’s like
There’s a lone soldier on the cross
Smoke pourin’ out of a boxcar door
You didn’t know it, you didn’t think it could be done
In the final end he won the wars
After losin’ every battle》

I would not be surprised this alleged assassin was misdirection.
O yes, her op being to stake out could very well be. It does not mean she planted and/or triggered the device. You can perfectly leave that to the wet team.
However, this way you would create a scapegoat. It seems that all elements in the story fit the description of a scapegoat. It seems she left in a hurry for what she perceives a s safeground: Estonia and further down into the EU.
Even if she were apprehended, she could fight extradition for quite some time. So, maybe, what she done was her ticket out. But what has she really done?
It reminds me of the Books by Ludlum, especially the Jason Bourne series (the original ones): entrapment and counter trap. Some people really have deranged minds.
But looking at the effects. Terrorism has only primarily the goal to induce fear. If you can take out anyone, all should be careful, is it not? Feel safe? Boem. But not random people, no people in a certain orbit around power centers.
On the other hand, terrorism can also be a nice domestic device. Think 9/11 and the adoption of the Patriot Act. 17SOG substack has a very nice rundown on how the IC-community was created and then took over. Would it be fartfetched to suppose some elements in RF would love to see a different development and oust a certain Mr. P out of business?
Who can use these elements, who can create such attempts/plans? Was it a warning to Putin? Would a more subtle form of taking out, be just as effective? No, it had to be very public and Hollywood like. It was a commercial. And then it created a legal and international problem, connected to the support of the war Zelensky is waging ….. or creating the backdrop to put other legal powers to bear……
I guess we’ll have to see how this particular drama will play out.

A long comment without any substance, suggestive innuendo galore.
Now this was Russian inside job, like 9/11, looking for regime change or getting rid of Putin.
Wouldn’t it be better to go back to reading thrillers?

Some important clarifications on the Crimea issue:
On 20 January 1991, before the independence of Ukraine, the Crimeans were invited to choose by referendum between two options: to remain with Kiev or to return to the pre-1954 situation and be administered by Moscow. The question asked on the ballot was:
“Are you in favor of the restoration of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of Crimea as a subject of the Soviet Union and a member of the Union Treaty?”
This was the first referendum on autonomy in the USSR, and 93.6% of Crimeans agreed to be attached to Moscow. The Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of Crimea (ASSR Crimea), abolished in 1945, was thus re-established on 12 February 1991 by the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. On 17 March, Moscow organized a referendum for the maintenance of the Soviet Union, which would be accepted by Ukraine, thus indirectly validating the decision of the Crimeans. At this stage, Crimea was under the control of Moscow and not Kiev, while Ukraine was not yet independent. As Ukraine organized its own referendum for independence, the participation of the Crimeans remained weak, because they did not feel concerned anymore.
Ukraine became independent six months after Crimea, and after the latter had proclaimed its sovereignty on September 4. On February 26, 1992, the Crimean parliament proclaimed the “Republic of Crimea” with the agreement of the Ukrainian government, which granted it the status of a self-governing republic. On 5 May 1992, Crimea declared its independence and adopted a Constitution. The city of Sevastopol, managed directly by Moscow in the communist system, had a similar situation, having been integrated by Ukraine in 1991, outside of all legality. The following years were marked by a tug of war between Simferopol and Kiev, which wanted to keep Crimea under its control.
In 1994, by signing the Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine surrendered the nuclear weapons of the former USSR that remained on its territory, in exchange for “its security, independence and territorial integrity.” At this stage, Crimea considered that it was—de jure—no longer part of Ukraine and therefore not concerned by this treaty. On its side, the government in Kiev felt strengthened by the memorandum. This is why, on 17 March 1995, it forcibly abolished the Crimean Constitution. It sent its special forces to overthrow Yuri Mechkov, President of Crimea, and de facto annexed the Republic of Crimea, thus triggering popular demonstrations for the attachment of Crimea to Russia. An event hardly reported by the Western media.
Crimea was then governed in an authoritarian manner by presidential decrees from Kiev. This situation led the Crimean Parliament to formulate a new constitution in October 1995, which re-established the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This new constitution was ratified by the Crimean Parliament on 21 October 1998 and confirmed by the Ukrainian Parliament on 23 December 1998. These events and the concerns of the Russian-speaking minority led to a Treaty of Friendship between Ukraine and Russia on 31 May 1997. In the treaty, Ukraine included the principle of the inviolability of borders, in exchange—and this is very important—for a guarantee of “the protection of the ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious originality of the national minorities on their territory.”
On 23 February 2014, not only did the new authorities in Kiev emerge from a coup d’état that had definitely no constitutional basis and were not elected; but, by abrogating the 2012 Kivalov-Kolesnichenko law on official languages, they no longer respected this guarantee of the 1997 treaty. The Crimeans therefore took to the streets to demand the “return” to Russia that they had obtained 30 years earlier.
On March 4, during his press conference on the situation in Ukraine a journalist asked Vladimir Putin, “How do you see the future of Crimea? Do you consider the possibility that it joins Russia?” he replied:
“No, we do not consider it. In general, I believe that only the residents of a given country who are free to decide and safe can and should determine their future. If this right has been granted to the Albanians in Kosovo, if this has been made possible in many parts of the world, then no one is excluding the right of nations to self-determination, which, as far as I know, is laid down in several UN documents. However, we will in no way provoke such a decision and will not feed such feelings.”
On March 6, the Crimean Parliament decided to hold a popular referendum to choose between remaining in Ukraine or requesting the attachment to Moscow. It was after this vote that the Crimean authorities asked Moscow for an attachment to Russia.
With this referendum, Crimea had only recovered the status it had legally acquired just before the independence of Ukraine. This explains why it renewed its request to be attached to Moscow, as in January 1991.
Moreover, the status of force agreement (SOFA) between Ukraine and Russia for the stationing of troops in Crimea and Sevastopol had been renewed in 2010 and to run until 2042. Russia therefore had no specific reason to claim this territory. The population of Crimea, which legitimately felt betrayed by the government of Kiev, seized the opportunity to assert its rights.
On 19 February 2022, Anka Feldhusen, the German ambassador in Kiev, threw a spanner in the works by declaring on the television channel Ukraine 24 that the Budapest Memorandum was not legally binding. Incidentally, this is also the American position, as shown by the statement on the website of the American embassy in Minsk.
The whole Western narrative about the “annexation” of Crimea is based on a rewriting of history and the obscuring of the 1991 referendum, which did exist and was perfectly valid. The 1994 Budapest Memorandum remains extensively quoted since February 2022, but the Western narrative simply ignores the 1997 Friendship Treaty which is the reason for the discontent of the Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens.
