The abstentions include the world’s most powerful and populous countries outside the west including, China, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Brazil and Argentina whilst of those states that declined to vote at all are numbered Israel (!) and Iran. Had just four states that voted for the Resolution decided to abstain fewer than half the world’s states would have supported it. Bear in mind also that many states that voted for the Resolution were whipped into line because they are part of the western alliance even though their private opinions are known to differ eg. Turkey, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Malta etc.
What this vote shows is that world opinion (which is not to be confused with “the international community”, which is simply a euphemism for the United States and its friends) is running strongly in Russia’s favour on this issue.
This is actually an excellent vote for Russia. It is really 100 v/s 69 and many in the 100s voted reluctantly. Russia is not isolated. Those who abstained really voted for Russia. Brasil, China, South Africa, India for instance . I find it interesting that S. Sudan, Mali and Kenya abstained, given they are countries under heavy empire intervention.
Events in Turkey are extremely interesting right now. Kudos to whoever leaked Erdogan’s cabinet openly discussing a false flag to pretext a full war with Syria. Twitter and Youtube have been blocked in Turkey.
Yes — the abstentions are thinly-veiled support, and the “yeas” show quite clearly which countries are either in the Anglo-Zionist orbit, or sufficiently afraid of the Empire’s financial, clandestine and military power to at least officially bow to their wishes.
And yes, Turkey is a real concern but it’s absolutely fascinating that Erdogan’s ministers were leaked in a way that is considered harmful to him, bc they sure did seem to be trying very hard to avoid implicating themselves in anything. Totally weird but again, cui bono?
Only 3 (three) European countries did not vote against Russia!
Belarus, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. And the reason why Bosnia did not vote against Russia is because Serbian representative in Bosnian presidency supported Russia!
Which means Russia has really only two allies in Europe, Belarus and the Serbs.
I am however shocked about countries like Bulgaria and Montenegro, who can thank their very EXISTENCE to Russia (a history lesson is not needed here for those who know the history of the Balkans).
Saker was speaking about unthankful Slavs a few days ago…here we can see why.
The German vote is a disgrace. While Britain and France have opposed reunification, Russia had actually supported it.
Not only were the accompanying assurances that there would be no further NATO expansion broken.
But we now also have a “chancellor” Merkel and a “head of state” Gauck coming from the formerly communist part of Germany who have their peculiar way of thanking the Russians for our freedom to reunite. A freedom which these 2 individuals have leveraged to the hilt for their personal advancement.
“I can’t eat as much as I need to puke” – painter Max Liebermann said that when seeing the Nazis parade through Berlin after Wall Street brought them to power in 1933.
There is no better way to express my feelings and I can only apologize to the Russians. Germany will be kicking the scum out of office sooner rather than later. 53% of Germans support the Crimea referendum according last week’s TNS poll and we haven’t even started yet.
I was expecting an article in my local newspaper in Canada with a headline like “UN General Assembly Overwhelmingly Condemns Russia yada yada…” But no, zero, nada, zilch, nothing in the media at least where I looked. That’s telling me that this whole UN gong show didn’t go as well as it was expected.
Regarding the Marshall Islands, as far as foreign policy goes they’re a colony of the U.S.
The Marshall’s, Micronesia, and Palau are all in “free association” with the U.S., which means Washington not only funds them and provides them defense but also allows their citizens to have access to America’s entitlement programs like Social Security.
Their votes will always be in the bag for the U.S..
I had no idea San Marino has its own seat in the UN General Assembly. I would have thought they’d be represented by Italy. Isn’t San Marino still at war with Sweden? :-)
But seriously: There’s no big surprise in the general distribution of votes and abstentions. The governments (not the peoples!, not the countries!) that have been corrupted by western imperialists slavishly follow their masters. In all likeliness they are doing so without having received any specific instructions. As lackeys and sycophants these guys and gals simply know what’s expected of them. Take their votes out of the equation and there remain very few governments (the imperialists, saudi arabia, the zionist state …) who could be considered genuine yes-voters. And of course, it goes without saying, they know only too well that legally they haven’t got a leg to stand on with regards to Crimea’s voluntary and democratically enacted accession to the Russian Federation.
But there are some interesting details in yesterday’s UN/GA vote: It’s good to see that the overwhelming majority of South-American governments have either abstained or even cast a no-vote (3 cheers to Evo Morales’ government!!!). The yes-votes of Colombia and Peru were to be expected. But Chile? Did anyone forget to inform the Chilean ambassador to the UN that there’s a new president in his country? Or is Ms Bachelet now also sucking up to the empire? Hmm … Another thing that I found a bit disconcerting is the complete lack of organization among the countries in the Non-Aligned Movement. There seem to be just as many yes-votes as abstentions. What a difference to the world as it was at the time of the Bandung Conference, when for once there was a group of non-aligned countries that could speak with one voice.
P.S. Almost three years ago I have posted a comment about the UN and other international institutions on cif. What said then fits very well in the current situation …
P.P.S. It’s hard to believe that one can catch a cold in sunny Florida. What should I say here in chilly, wet and windy Normandy? But I do hope you’ll be better soon, Saker. All the best!
Christoph, don’t be so hard in your judgement. It’s all about blending in and waiting for the right time. Remember the G20 Meeting last September? Remember the first reaction of Ms. Merkel to the exclusion of Russia from the G8? One might explain the change of mind with being subservient. Or one might see a wise person who knows that sometimes you have to wait for the right moment …
Hope you feel better, Saker. Yeah, the list of countries backing “Ukraine” (*coup regime) is veritable who’s who of Empire’s lackeys. But at least it puts paid to the notion of the “entire world” being against Moscow.
Yes it wasn’t the great victory as per Nutter Powell and Insipid Hague. Also, note how many countries didn’t turn up either. UAE for example….Don’t see Moldova on there either…..Surprised by Malaysia voting yes and Indonesia – thought they would abstain.
Hope this gives Russia a boost – they are not alone. All that counts is what the Crimeans want and they have made their decision.
“The Sri Lankan Government on Thursday slammed the US over a draft resolution which was adopted at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
External Affairs Minister G.L Peiris said that the US exerted pressure on some countries for them to back the resolution, including by warning that failure to back the resolution will hurt ties with those countries.
“Some countries had no choice but to back the resolution. They could not reject US threats as some countries have strong economic ties with the US,” he said.” in “Sri Lanka hails BRICS support at UN” March 28, 2014, 6:15 am
Now we know how USA obtain her support in UN, it is by coercion. Perhaps a look in those countries that support USA, how many of them are occupy by US military bases could give us a better picture of their Independence.
(auto trans) “Bank “Russia” became the first national bank, which will work exclusively in Russia and only with their pocketbooks. Thus it will protect themselves and their clients from hostile and non-market activities of foreign financial partners and will become an island of security for a large number of companies and entrepreneurs working on domestic consumers, experts believe…”
The bank will be isolated from foreign bankster shenanigans and will only deal with domestic banking and use the Ruble exclusively. The Russians are working on their own versions of “Visa” and their own ratings system. This is expected to be the beginning of a new trend.
In other words, the Russians are fed up with western economic cheating and have decided to create their own economic system that will be insulated from the organised crime in the west that passes for a financial system. Long term, this could be the start of an international independent economic system that is not run by Tel Aviv-New York-London.
Expect the anti-Russian bashing in the Jewish run zionazi western media to switch into overdrive-overdrive now. Iraq and Libya were attacked partly because they opted to sell oil in other currencies besides the dollar, but what Russia is initialising is taking it to a new higher level. Not only will they be expanding the use of their own currency, they will be putting limiters on the influence of foreign currencies. Zionazis will be apoplectic over this.
The “no” and “abstention” votes counts for far more than half of the world population. And these same general assembly has voted n times in condemnation of israeli and north-american mischief, with zero effect every single time. This has no legitimacy and means absolutely nothing. Just more american hypocrisy .
Remarkable how the filth of the MSM regularly ignore UNGA votes of 140 to 150 to two (usually the USA and its puppet-master, Israel)against the US sanctions on Cuba, or similar votes against the continued and barbaric imprisonment of the Palestinians, but make a meal of this. Anyone voting against the Empire automatically brings their country into the sights of sanction, subversion, blockade or attack by the greatest force for diabolical Evil in history. And the views of these countries citizens are, naturally, totally irrelevant.

Since the “international community” stands for the Neo-Conservative Movement War Party, which in his turn is Trotskysm revamped, I think more appropriate to call it Comintern!
Anonymous at 18.15, this movement away from the US dollar is one of the reasons, I would say, for the current upsurge in US aggression and recklessness. And the Chinese have acted with devilish cunning by making Frankfurt, not London, the centre for renminbi trading in Europe. That sends a message to the belligerent imbecile Cameron that entertaining that grinning CIA asset the so-called Dalai Lama will not be ignored, and helps to hopefully create a rift between the Chosen People of the Anglo-Zionist Empire, and Europe. Once the US dollar loses its ‘exorbitant privilege’ the Real Evil Empire will crumble into the mire. Unfortunately, as honorary if second class Chosen People, the US elite also ascribes to the Samson Option, in that they will destroy the Earth before surrendering their rule over it.
Don’t be too jubilant in Frankfurt being the center of trade inrenminbi trade for Europe. After all, wasn’t Frankfurt where Die Rotte Schild scum emanate from??
There is more to this than meets the eye. I congratulate though the Russians in their banking moves although as a resident in a neighboring country, I wouldn’t mind having the opportunity to have a bank account with a Russian institutiin. To show support and to have services available when I ride my motorbike through there on holidays.
As for the United Nations, their relevance reminds me of their precursor, the Legue of Nations.
“06:49 Damascus requests UN probe into Turkey’s ‘incursion plan’ leak
The Syrian government has asked the UN to conduct an investigation into the leaked record, in which top Turkish officials are allegedly discussing a plan to stage a false flag attack to justify a military operation against Syria. The audio file was uploaded on YouTube and prompted Ankara to ban the service in Turkey in response, citing national security concerns.”
The western media Jews wont cover it, but many others in the world media will. It put on record solid evidence that the USA and Turkey conspired to create a false flag so NATO could institute a no-fly zone over Syria and run the same sort of op they did in Libya.
Leaking that conversation nixed the false flag and has probably has prevented a major escalation in the zionazi war against Syria.
(auto trans) “Kurultay also appealed “to the UN, Council of Europe, EU, OSCE, OIC, the nations, parliaments and governments to support the right of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination in the form of national-territorial autonomy in its historic homeland – in the Crimea.”
This looks like a zionazi attempt to get the initial credentials for an insurgency. These guys being the “SNC” to be used against the Russians in Crimea. The usual “al qaida” terror campaign will follow, along with the snipers, car bombs, “suicide” bombers all the other wonderful things zionazi-nazistan bring to those places they seek to destablise.
A lot of mutual interests between Germany and Russia. Their relationship with Russia is similar to Turkey. At the political level, lots of strife, but a lot of mutual business between them that modulates the peaks somewhat. That is part of the Russian strategy in dealing with ziofascist-fascist west. They encourage intermixing of business so these people will have a reason to be more reasonable – since they stand to loose their investments.
What I liked about the Rossiya Bank move is that it is a signal the Russians will no longer put up with crooked business crap from the west, that is being used as a political tool to screw Russia over. The Russians are using what they find useful, and discarding the toxic rubbish. Reminds me of the USSR treatment of western fascist businesses. IE: you wanna play in our backyard, you play by our rules, not yours.
Meanwhile, a rally is planned on Sunday in support of the bank. :)
Акция в поддержку банка «Россия» пройдет у его офиса в Москве (Action in support of the bank “Russia” will be held at its office in Moscow)
A reverse “occupy demo”. Imagine Americans doing the same for Bank of America, or Britons rallying in support of the Bank of England? :D
In a some aspects, the Russian move represents the sort of responsible financial policy very much lacking in the ziofascist west, and is consistent with much of what the “occupy movement” was demanding of the U.S regime. So, in a sense, in Russia, the “occupy movement” has had better success than in the USA, even though there is no “occupy movement” in Russia. I hope that made sense. ;)
New Zealand voted in favour. So are we CubuCoco’s “lackeys”? Absolutely; our government will drop its knickers for any NAZO initiative, the more self-contradictory the better. But we had another reason. In December, two-thirds of the country voted against asset sales in a citizens-initiated referendum. The government ignored us completely.
Dear Saker … Offering up one of my own reports as follows as Russia attempts to break away from the US/EU global banking screws … TMPress Special INFObase Report … (New York) … Russia Is Moving Closer to Creation of Its Own National Payment System and SWIFT-like Entity … Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced the idea at the most Federation Council meeting …
Q: (L) Okay, I guess the question on a lot of people’s minds is: How about that Vladimir Putin, huh?
A: He’s not perfect but he’s the best your planet has in such a position at this time.
Q: (L) So, he’s not a psychopath?
A: No.
Q: (Perceval) Is there anyone essentially giving him orders? Is what he’s doing being controlled directly in that sense?
A: Not in the sense you mean, but yes in the sense of conscience.
Q: (Ark) I think that what is of value is that he has the right team of advisors. When you have your advisors and they are smart and knowledgeable, they are experts in certain areas, and they will say, “If you do this, this will be the result, so I suggest that.”
A: Indeed, there are many in Russia who learned in a school of hard reality difficult for Westerners to imagine. On top of this, they are better educated in general.
I know, I know… But thousands of people read that daily…
I may have jumped the gun re. Frankfurt as renminbi trading centre. It is just for the Eurozone, and London will trade renminbi also, the UK being outside the Eurozone. Still, trading renminbi brings forward the end of US dollar hegemony and the end of the AngloZiosphere’s global dominance. We must remember that for the vast bulk of the populations in the Anglosphere and even in Israel, the end of the dominance of the predatory elites will be liberating for them, not just the rest of humanity. The bankster kleptomaniacs can trade renminbi, and make as much rope for their own hangings as they wish. It should, eventually, when, too late, reflection overpowers greed, concentrate their minds admirably, as they say.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>But the biggest gain for Russia is that three countries from the Americas Venezuela , Bolivia and Nicaragua supported Russia on this one.
I agree with the main thrust of the collective comments that the number of abstentions is both astonishing and encouraging. Although an abstention does not necessarily mean tacit support, it does indicate that country was unsure enough about public opinion in its own electorate that it chose to essentially cast a non-vote. Sticking to principle is paying dividends for Russia. Thanks for this useful post, and get well soon!

You have raised a lot of very important points on how the US wants to create divisions within Russia and weaken her whereby she can be subjugated.
My point is why not Russia return the favor ?
In the US there are plenty of centripetal forces and a lot of these do not toe the official Washington line. Here are some of these. 1. The Hispanics : There are a lot of them in the La Raza and Chicano nationalists who would love to have a Hispanic republic that would be created by combining the Southern US provinces like Texas , California and Arizona (these are the places where Hispanics are in very close to being demographic majority). 2. The White Anglos : There are many Whites who feel that the official Washington is taking care of the immigrants by robing them. SOme of these may opt for secession. 3. Then there are independent dissidents like Mr. Snowden.
Do you think it would be appropriate for Russia to maintain some sort of contacts with these not-so-pro Empire AMerican parties ?
I would love to have your expert views on this.
WHat are the thoughts of the other commentators on this issue ?

Absolutely no doubt whatsoever that most people, myself included, would feel truly cosmic schadenfreude were the USians to finish off each other and hence the territory they’re squatting to undergo ethic (rather than ethnic) cleansing at long last. However, if there’s one thing that the US Settler Reich — along with its main plagiarizers, Nazi Germany and Zionist Israel — has shown Humanity, it is the unpleasant fact that rampant parasitism at the expense of other countries and peoples constitutes an immensely powerful tool to bring about domestic social cohesion. People simply become spoiled rotten, their rottenness reinforced further still by the unbridled imbecility and depravity which usually pass for the parasites’ “national culture”.
Ergo: The USians are, by and large, a lost cause altogether. Again, Nazi Germany comes in handy as the irrefutable case study: For all its failings militarily from 1942 onwards, Germany never came near anything reeking of civil war; not even remotely so. Throughout the war, the Germans were well-fed, complacent, and haughty, albeit gradually becoming less tribalistic. In the US, where the sobering effect of crushing defeat at the hands of an invading army hasn’t been experienced, this immunity against conscience and decency is of course much stronger.
My conclusion, therefore, is that the best way to stir up trouble to US imperialism is precisely what we’re witnessing today. Provide viable alternatives in the spheres of trading, production, banking along with a firm resolve when dealing with the agent provocateurs of Western imperialism.
Nussiminem, I admire your reply to Debanjan (whose ideas I also endorse, although they are rather dangerous. As we say here, you don’t go around poking a bull-ants’ nest with a stick. Even less, a hopper ant nest)very much. The idea of ‘ethical cleansing’ is very cogent. And, as you say, the US population has taken the benefits of pillaging the rest of humanity as if it was their birthright, although now that loot has been concentrated in the elite’s hands, and 50% of the US population is in, or on the verge of, poverty. Then the lack of empathy and human compassion of the psychopath exerts its nasty influence, and they just do not give a stuff about the suffering of others. The worst actually enjoy it, because it feeds the group egotism of the ‘Exceptionalist’ villainy that Putin denounced so eloquently. Of course not all Americans, or the inhabitants of Israel, or the Anglosphere countries, are nasty types, but, unfortunately many are, and the economic and social system advantages the worst type, so they have become worse over time. I know that is certainly the case in Australia, a country shoved to the Right by the likes of Rupert Murdoch, who is, in my opinion, evil incarnate. As you note, the Americans have never experienced the sort of devastation that they have inflicted on so many others, and which, in older civilizations (if I can use that term to describe the USA)has taught their populations bitter, but humanising lessons. Regretably, I think that the US ruling elite, who I would say are amongst the most evil such groups to have ever existed, will be quite prepared to follow the Israeli ‘Samson Option’ and destroy the world rather than lose their God-ordained total dominance over it.
“Bulgaria’s Ataka party will initiate the resignation of the government in case it supports extra sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis, Ventsislav Lykov, a member of the Bulgarian parliament, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“If the current government supports additional sanctions, we shall demand its resignation,” he said, adding that his country should be more resolute and independent in defending its own interests.
Earlier, the party’s leader, Volen Siderov, voiced a similar position. “The United States’ geopolitical interests are pushing Europe in the wrong direction,” he told Itar-Tass…”
I understand both of yours’ feelings. But I tell you something.
At present the US is safe in their neighborhood. (absolutely no peer competitor for Washington in the Americas) and there is no great general schism or civil war possibility inside the US.
This would mean that the rulers of Washington would always be free to do whatever to destroy what they see as enemies of their “new world order” i.e. Russia , China and Iran etc.
I am afraid the US would try it’s best to destroy the Eurasian world that Mr. Putin has done so hard to nurture in all these years.
Debanjan, in the face of US aggression, which is an utterly essential, indeed the essential feature of the Empire’s relentless, cancer-like expansionism, resistance, while necessary, to spare your children death (Iraq, Syria) or slavery (Latin America, Greece, Latvia, Ukraine etc), is highly dangerous. The ruling elites of the USA, infected with the Samson Option madness of the Israeli ruling caste, will definitely destroy things if they cannot rule, absolutely, forever in their dream world of Full Spectrum Dominance. The Russians and Chinese must, I believe, formally ally, so an attack on one is an attack on both. All the subversive Western ‘NGOs’, the sordid hypocrites of the ‘Human Rights’ industry and local compradores must be expelled. US and Western Embassy staff must be restricted to capitals only, with no ‘Consuls’ or the like and all staff must be accompanied by Government minders if they travel in the country. And all military treaties must be abrogated as long as NATO exists and nuclear sneak first-strike remains US policy. US dollar hegemony must be actively undermined, and then we must await the US collapse from its own inherent social, economic, moral and spiritual corruption. With luck the US elite will split, possibly along the lines of the Zionist puppets versus the nativists. Snake biting snake might be our best hope.
Marshall Islands – what they?

Wonderful to know that both India, China and Pakistan abstained as both has important interests with Russia.
But the biggest gain for Russia is that three countries from the Americas Venezuela , Bolivia and Nicaragua supported Russia on this one.
It means that there are still voices in the Americas opposing the US.
Excellent for Russia.
Great to see that China , India and Pakistan abstained.
What is more interesting that Venezuela , Cuba , Bolivia and Nicaragua voted against.
That means there is still resistance against the US in the Americas.
I believe that how Russia protected Syria , it may need to do so in favor of these countries in the Americas.

Ban Ki-moon, here is what you do when you want to get proper voting results:
1. send obnoxious people away
2. use both hands to press all available buttons
3. have a banana.

Dear The Saker,
Hope you get better.
Nice to see Djibouti and Ethiopia (worked there for 5 years) abstaining.
Despite the West influence being quite great there:
– for expample, the USA has in Djibouti the only Air Force base in Africa (together with France and Japan)
– and Ethiopia has managed to have built and to be building an amazing capacity of hydropower generation projects with Western money

This is a very interesting development:

Cheers to Cassiopaea!

Dear Saker,
You have raised a lot of very important points on how the US wants to create divisions within Russia and weaken her whereby she can be subjugated.

@Debanjan
Bulgaria’s Ataka party to initiate gvt resignation if it supports EU sanctions against RF

@Nussimien and Mulga
So what are your solutions to prevent it ?
Can Saker cheap in here.
