The war from the west was never about winning, it was about other things:

    1. Cutting Russia off from the economic system that the west controls.
    2. Making money for: a) For military-industrial complex 2) stealing from Russians and Russia
    3. Coercing other countries to end their relations with Russia.
    4. Making Russians angry at their government enough to overthrow them.
    5. Forcing Europe off of Russian fossil fuels because: a) profits for investors in green energy b) profits for investors American fossil fuels (same investors usually) c) make it too expensive for industry in Europe to stay in Europe thereby giving the investors an excuse to move to lower wage nations, or even America where unions have little power and wages are being lowered by mass increase of immigration by migrant willing to work for very little.

They don’t care how much money is thrown at any specific region or battle even if it is a lost cause, or how many people die. It isn’t about winning, its about keeping the war going for as long as possible.

Funny you should say that because the West is paying a lot more for less product.

Hedge-Funds are collapsing like an octogenarian’s libido.

A bevy of bankruptcies, closures and strikes

Soup Kitchen Lines and Food Banks popping up all across major cities.

Sky high energy prices and homelessness/evictions

Military Industrial Complexes wmd cupboards bare, that no amount of FIAT can fix

Russia signing major infrastructure deals worth hundreds of billions with The Power of Siberia 2 to replace NS1/2

SCO-EAEU-CSTO-BRICS +’s queuing up for membership

      Security Agreements signed across Euroasia

America will have great difficulty holding onto all its vassals no matter what toys it has left to throw from its pram.

Their chaos theory YINON Plan never got to 2nd base.

OK, so the little people got burnt.
Imagine some other people, with a million dollars to play with, who knew ahead of time that the US was going to reduce the gas supply, ban Russian oil, coup Ukraine’s elected president. How much money could they gain? It’s like looking at last year’s price chart: buy low, sell high. Like stealing candy from a baby!
Short TSM at 88 in late July, buy back at 68 two months later. Sweet! (The Pelosi’s visit to Taipei)

Unless the US’s/West’s big plan is to mass implant these chips into the Great Unwashed and have them turn up on the battlefield in Donetsk, Ukraine, sharply too mind you, then it’s a piss in the ocean, the difference between Sub & Hypersonic.

Of course the domestic (and occasional foreign) fleecing will continue, but alas, having been exposed as a paper-tiger (literally and metaphorically) it’s a downward trajectory for at least another generation or two.

            .

Gonzalo, I remind you that the Nazis’ demand for unconditional surrender caused the war to drag on more and more when a simple surrender on their part was acceptable and the war would have ended. Guess who demanded unconditional surrender in WWII, USA and UK.

Thanks Mr G… I feel much the same way….

Have you read Simonov’s “Days and Nights”?

Good novel, relevant, in a way…

Dear God but that bastard Johnson and the American Ruling Gangsters have so much to answer for. So many young lives, so much misery, such utter degradation of humanity, just to pursue their own selfish ends. May they rot in hell.

  5. ann on December 09, 2022  ·  at 4:21 pm EST/EDT

maybe the purpose of the Zelensky regime is to depopulate Ukraine – especially of men of fighting age

Maybe there’s a long term plan of the anglo american zionutz – like what Israel is doing to the Palestinians, but here the Angloamericanzionutz are avoiding any direct contact to kill the inhabitants – just letting the Russians do it.

And Putin probably even knows this – but has to keep going – no choice.

    • Masr on December 10, 2022  ·  at 1:57 am EST/EDT

Wouldn’t it be funny if after zellensky depopulates most of Ukraine and is forced to surrender Russia cancels all land and other investments by foreigners and then brings in Chinese to invest in farming and industry. I’m sure China can spare a couple of million farmers and workers. Hell India and Philippines could send a couple of million too.

  6. Rosered on December 09, 2022  ·  at 4:34 pm EST/EDT

Its horrible all this men die and I dont think we can imagine the tragedy. The cold, the fear beyond suffering.
Its the West to blaim its them or the Russians so its like.
Maybe this is a fight for mankind for freedom. Even harder to loose your life, suffering to stay alive for people that cares only about their own welth and power.
Loosing your life in fight againt your freedom is never worth dying for.

  7. paperlesstiger on December 09, 2022  ·  at 4:41 pm EST/EDT

I doubt it. Scott Ritter says the Russians are leary of spooking the Europeans and causing NATO to officially enter the war. In that case, they will probably continue their slow advance and degrade Ukraine’s military. Russia already has what it wants: Crimea and a buffer zone. All it has to do now is wait out Zelensky’s temper tantrum while he wastes his troops for nothing.

    • NC66 on December 10, 2022  ·  at 5:34 am EST/EDT

I don’t get this line of reasoning. It’s not like NATO can’t see that Russia is utterly destroying Ukraine. And it is equally apparent that Russia has no designs on other countries.

  8. X Fretensis on December 09, 2022  ·  at 4:42 pm EST/EDT

I have this picture in my mind of a Russian Army resupply tanker fuelling a Russian tank. The tank’s crew is standing by their tank, the ordnance supplier is pumping the diesel through the hi-flow nozzle, and click, the tank is full and ready to go.
The ordnance guy looks at the tank commander “That will be sixty US dollars, comrade”

  9. Skip59 on December 09, 2022  ·  at 5:45 pm EST/EDT

Gonzalo, what you are describing is what a well trained soldier is trained to persevere. However, the Ukraine soldiers are not prepared for this conflict. I might add, no smart individual would attempt to go up against Russian artillery. I believe the western nations are destroying themselves and Ukrainian mankind, I believe Russia must take all of Ukraine not only the Donbas.

  10. the blame-e on December 09, 2022  ·  at 6:10 pm EST/EDT

I understand where Gonzalo Lira is coming from, describing Zelensky and Co., as throwing Ukrainian forces into the Russian meat grinder as insanity. Describing “insanity [as] doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” I get it.

But some people believe that “persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” Perhaps only the insane, and people with a gambling problem fall for this philosophy.

I think Zelensky and Co., believe the later while being the former.

During World War 2, after months and months of attacking the British Air Force, Herman Göring gave up and redirected his air campaign to attacking London. He had no idea that the British Air Force was just days away from complete collapse.

How many times have we heard stories about someone been inches away from the gold and given up?

So it is with the “Fog of War.” Maybe the United States and NATO are just waiting for news to come out about Ukrainian forces being completely wiped out — down to the last man, woman, child, and old person — including all these NATO mercenaries. Then the United States will come to the aid of the Ukrainian “martyrs.”

Who knows. The coming offensive (if there is one), may tell the tale. Or not. We don’t know.

    • Masr on December 10, 2022  ·  at 2:11 am EST/EDT

It’s not just some. Gurkhas of nepal also have same philosophy.
The Rajputs of India would do the same in battles with Turko-persians and Mughals .
They had tradition of getting high on weed and alcohol the night before and fully high next day would go on drug and alcohol fuelled ” Bravery ” In massive do Or die charges. Mughals and others with a third of the size armies but disciplined using sophisticated battle field strategies would win battle after battle against an enemy thrice their size. This happened again and again for nearly 150 years till they took full control of the whole of the South Asian areas except parts of Deep South.
Caste considerations on appointing generals also played a part. Till this date this has been called bravery on part of Rajputs. Mughals got complacent after 350 years of rule and were defeated gradually by the Marathas who were lower caste and gave top posts in military to deserving performers and arrival of the British at the fag end finished their rule.

  11. apiarian on December 09, 2022  ·  at 8:08 pm EST/EDT

Hope you read these comments because God bless you Mr. Lira. You mentioned men respecting other men for fighting bravely. I respect your types even more. Speaking truth to power under threat of harm.

I as well think and empathize with the cannon fodder daily(same goes for the RF soldiers) and what it must be like in their current situation. Easy to brush the Ukrainians all off as nazis and say who cares, but from my point of view a lot of the cannon fodder would walk away if they could. Except for the problem of having a nazi pointing a gun at the back of their head or their families.

Have quoted this here before, but still very applicable.

“If we could read the secret history of our enemies we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility”(Henry Longfellow)

Anyway great work and wish you the best.

    • Englishman on December 10, 2022  ·  at 11:13 am EST/EDT

Those Ukrainian soldiers should be shooting their own officers and Nazi officers for criminal orders.

      • apiarian on December 10, 2022  ·  at 5:52 pm EST/EDT

Don’t disagree, but also don’t believe it’s that simple. Same kind of thing witnessed in WW2 regarding the Nazis. Why didn’t those people overwhelm the few watching over them? Brings in human nature and what it must feel like to actually be there. May seem simple when sitting safe/sound and able to post and read things on the internet. Doubt they have that option.

  12. Quiet Watcher on December 09, 2022  ·  at 8:52 pm EST/EDT

    Look wider.

This is already WWIII ….. west versus global south. The Ukraine is a kinetic conflict zone, but the economic, financial and narrative war is global.

Demilitarisation of NATO and the US via the weapons sink hole in Ukraine is a very very good thing for the global south. It severely reduces the capacity of the Empire to create a second front on the kinetic battles… most likely over Taiwan.

However, at some point, an escalation will probably happen from the west, that forces a much more substantial demilitarisation … something like removing the US carrier groups .. easily done with hypersonic missiles, but incredibly dangerous because it could trigger all out nuclear war – which is an “end of life” event for the planet.

Perhaps removing just a single carrier group in response would be a sufficient bloody nose to the Empire and make it sulk back in its own corner… but probably not. The neocons are insane.

I just read that Canada, yes THAT Canada, has sent a warship to the South China Sea to prove something about Freedom and The Mocracy.

  13. WTFUD on December 09, 2022  ·  at 8:55 pm EST/EDT

Bah humbug you lot of bleeding hearts! If you’re feeling any sympathy, think of 8 Donbass Christmases under shelling, probably a ninth to come, hopefully not a 10th, while Kiev & Other cities only entered the battlefield recently and now comprehend what they were missing.

If you want to look on the positive for our Ukrainian partners then I’ll give you 3 straight off the bat.

    1) Their electricity bills will be next to nothing
    2)Their gas bills ditto
    3) The children get to stay off school (learning Nazi salutes) because there’s a missile defence system in their classroom.

“The war from the West is about:

    1. The US Capitalist Hegemon is trying to maintain its worldwide dominance. It’s being rattled by push back from Russia, China, Iran, the Bric Nations who are beginning to quit using the US $$.

    2. The US War against Russia is:
to disable Germany, Italy, others from any trade with Russia

    4. The US war is about disabling West European/UK nations by destroying ALL public institutions: health, medical care, public universities, public roads, and public support by said governments. The US/UK/EU Oligarchs are purposely destroying all this; enabling them to Privatize everything, just as the US has done in America.

    5. For the US: the Number# 1 Enemy is China. China is developing public:finance, roads, hospitals, housing & all other public infrastructure. Unlike the US where The FED holds ALL $$s, The Chinese government’s Money is in the hands of……. “the government.” China’s trading with other nations is reducing its usage of $$, but uses multiple types of currency. That practice has gone through “the roof” in the last few years.

Those are most important facts about “The War.”

  16. Befree on December 11, 2022  ·  at 5:05 pm EST/EDT

Maybe the Russians are going slow in Ukraine in order to make more Polish sausage out of NATO troops parading as private contractor mercenaries. It’s a nice tidy way to grind down the NATO enemy without spreading the wreckage everywhere. Putin did say Russia would be in Ukraine for quite some time. Maybe what he meant was that they had a lot of sausage production in mind.
