Herb Swanson (webmaster)
Sounds great mr Swanson.
My compliments.
From experience with forum software, I have a rough impression of how much work this is. What could appear as so self-evident for some, might not be in reality ;-)
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Rob
Thanks, Herb, for your update!
@EVERYBODY ELSE:
I am very excited about this new feature and I already have my first 2 vignettes in my head :-)
But we want to make sure things go smoothly before posting the first one.
So I ask for your understanding and patience!
Hugs and cheers
The Saker
I suppose I’ll be permitted to respond to posts here using the movable cafe forum. Yes? If so, look for my comments there if I’m not permitted to comment directly.
If I accept your request to participate, your comments won’t be moderated at all.
On the other hand, I will be running that section rather strictly.
Before I ban anybody, I will warn that person, privately (unless I am dealing with the type that does not even deserve that). Frankly, I don’t expect many trolls with sign up, so this might be smooth sailing (call me naive).
Besides, trolls want to “diss” religion and show how superior they are, they are not really interested in discussing a topic about which they rarely know much, if anything.
I am sure that there will be bugs, mistakes, growing pains, but in the end, I am very optimistic about this idea :-)
Kind regards
The Saker
Hi Herb
Not sure yet if I will seek to comment in this new section.
Religion is not one of my areas of “expertise”
But not knowing much about a topic has rarely previously caused me to hesitate in forming an opinion, and then sharing it enthusiastically.
I will certainly read the Saker’s vignettes, along with any comments that are not too long in words and too short on thought.
I have no expertise in websites, and what you are tinkering with back there, but I am quite certain (in my opinion!) it involves a lot of planning, work and commitment on your part.
Thanks.
Religion is not one of my areas of “expertise”. But not knowing much about a topic has rarely previously caused me to hesitate in forming an opinion,
May I ask you to wait to see the vignettes to see if you “belong” or not?
Couple of reasons for that:
1) I plan my first vignette on this topic (“what is a theologian”) and it might very much surprise you. I can tell you for sure that some who now mistakenly assume that religion is their are of expertise will find out that they do NOT “belong” :-)
2) Ignorance is not a problem. False knowledge is. I *promise* you that there will be A LOT of false knowledge which will have to be carried out of the room before it smells fresh again…
3) In truth, humans “know” very little about God (or themselves, for that matter). So NOT understanding is normal. None of the 12 Apostles were “experts in religion” by the way!
Something tells me that Christ had little appreciation (or even patience!) for assumed “expertise” of the so called experts of His time…
Kind regards
Peace on u
smooth sailing mr saker (on project..)
try’g 2 cast project line of a different magnitude, but same direction, God willing: see “finish” banner.
Never b afraid of who u r- look 20 yrs back — — what a journey it has been 4 everyone (God is great-He plans out all)
Peace 2 all
Thank you, Herb, for all your work here on the Vineyard.
This sounds great!
As a fellow Orthodox, I hereby request any participation offered.
I will be most interested in reading everything anyway, if you decide to restrict the sheer number of commentators, since i tend not to type very much, so that part matters not.
Saker; Thank you for moving forward with this in such an organized way. I am always very interested in all you have to offer with regard to Christian spirituality. I would be delighted to be able to participate in commenting and discussions if possible.
Great! Please keep watching for the announcement as soon as most issues are fixed.
Cheers!
I will let you, and everybody else, know when we are ready!
As for the commentators, I am not set on any figure. I would like that section to be manageable and reasonably dedicated to the project. I prefer 3 good commentators that 3000 bad ones anyway :-)
As for the criteria for acceptance or not – I don’t think I want a formal list. Rather, I will see or, better, try to feel if I want this person at our table or not. I suspect that there will be some which I will accept and later ask to leave, and there might be those whom I did not sign up initially who will convince me otherwise. Again, I will keep that very informal and relaxed. But yes, for “adults only” (snarky, petulant or otherwise rude “teens” will be ejected as soon as detected, of course :-)
Kind regards
I am so looking forward to this series. While the “leap of faith” eludes me, I respect and admire, if sincere and humble, those who take that leap.
I do not limit my respect to Christianity.
In these troubled times we are all living thru, a time when fear and uncertainty is dominant, any attempt to understand and explain is worth the effort. As I read recently somewhere, if not optimistic, what’s the point? And I truly fear that optimism is in short supply.
