This video is nothing short of amazing. Think of it, these people are openly confronting what is clearly Ukie death-squad and not just some regular military unit (their gear is brand new and clearly imported). Even more amazing is the language used. While I don’t feel like translating it into English, I will say that it is just about the most overly aggressive, rude and provocative as it gets. You talk like that to a cop in Russia and you will get arrested and probably a good taste of his rubber truncheon.
Which, by the way, also is one hell of a contrast with the behavior of the Ukies in Odessa and Mariupol. This time the Ukies acted like pros: remained calm and composed. Wherever these guys came from, their are not the pathetic assortment of thugs seen in Mariupol but a disciplined unit. And whether they were aware or not that they were being filmed is irrelevant: it is very hard to keep your calm when faced with a clearly enraged crowd which could turn violent at any instant.
Can somebody find out what this unit is exactly? Where did these guys come from? I sure hope that this is not the sign of a revamped Ukie military because if it is, then the NAF militia will be facing a much more dangerous and capable enemy.
This is a remarkable video: a very courageous crowd facing some very professional soldiers. Things appear to be changing on both sides.

UPDATE: I am getting a lot of comments saying that this is an old video. If so, then I would be even more interested in finding out what this unit is and what it has done since. I hate that re-cycling (and misleading) of old videos to new events, but I guess it comes with the Internet territory. But in this case, I still find this video quite amazing, though if that is not Kramatorsk today, then the behavior of the crowd is not so amazing. Anyway, sorry if this is an old one (don’t have the time to check now), but if you find any info about the unit, please post it here. Thanks!! The Saker
I saw this video in April. It was posted on liveleak.com
Since about 2 months ago there is a special tab dedicated to Ukraine, in the same way there is one dedicated to Syria.
Liveleak has been a very good website to get information.
Even posts from this blog have been mentioned there a few times.
They are likely foreign Merc’s, since it is impossible for the Ukies to train professionals so quickly. No worries, they may be harder to kill, but they will die. Or, more likely, they will run since the only currency they have to offer is their lives.
No hearts and minds to win here. Occupation will be far more difficult than seizing ground. Notice they are wearing masks to hide their likely foreign identities. These are not Ukies, just guns for hire, likely american and east european white trash.
Welcome liberators! pideras

I’ve seen that video before. It was recorded around 2 months ago, before the banderivtsy began to press home their sieges and civilian bombardments.

Saker, this video is not recent, RT broadcasted it a couple of months back. And I agree with you, this is another kind of soldiers; their gear, uniforms and general attitude is different from the guys I’ve seen in other videos. As for their apparent lack of reaction, maybe they are foreigners and do not understand the language?

Discipline in streets against people with phone cameras is not discipline in combat when bullets can rip you to shreds.
What are the Ukies fighting for. The most elite troops are holding the airports. Paratroopers being burnt up in months of a holding useless airports.
You can be sure there are some elite units. Most of them are in the rear protecting the junta and key installations.
What is the order of battle? Which units are where?
Certainly, some units that have seen and survived fierce combat are better. But the Ukies have suffered very little shelling. They have suffered no aerial bombardment. They have few mines and no IEDs to worry them. They may be tougher. They may even know why they fight.
But the militia is very tested and is worth 5-10 Ukies per man. What they need is some heavier equipment. And four times as many men in arms.
Again, why were all those brave civilians fighting with the militia? They know now the next time those APCs come, it will be to round them up and finish them in Donbass.
It is heartening to see the outrage. But it is a week late. And it will have impact in Moscow. This is better than the referendum. It shows people will stand up to fascism. That part is very important. Now get guns and leaders to these people so they can resist in force. Teach them to lay mines and IEDs and those APCs will never return.
Empty uniforms, in not enough numbers. Mercs will turn a battle, not a war.
Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death.

Saker, I don’t see why this old video is relevant at this time. Lots more going on now.
Video dated May 3. Same as Saker’s posting.
http://www.liveleak.com/browse?q=Kramatorsk&page=10
What it does explain why the Ukies destroyed the city and the militia fought so well there.
The troops and who they are doesn’t matter.
They were taking the temperature of the populace.
The Ukies are so afraid they scout from tanks and send companies of APCs to take a look at the citizenry.
Must be hell to be a field commander trying to lead them.
Hello Saker
I am sure I watched this video already, this year in may. I think it has been made during the first half of may, between victory day and referendum. Unfortunately I do not recall the source.

Great! Thank you for sending me the links.
Larchmonter445:Discipline in streets against people with phone cameras is not discipline in combat when bullets can rip you to shreds.
While I agree that the first combat experience is a shock for any solider no matter how well trained, I think that discipline is discipline and that facing a potentially violent crowd is already a good test. Remember how the pathetic Ukies were shooting in the air in Mariupol? That is a surefire sign of fear and chaos. And the crowd in Mariupol was far less aggressive than this one. So I would not discount “discipline in the streets” when it already involves real risk, adrenaline, fear, possible violence, etc. My rule of thumb with ex-Soviet units is always: the more restrained, the more controlled, the more polite, the more dangerous too. That is why the special forces in Crimea were called “polite green men”, that “politeness” is, to any person knowing the Russian military, a clear sign of danger. But drunken officers, rude language, macho swagger and irritated firing of weapons in the air spells “helpless target”. And that is why, say, Lyashko’s men look like.
Cheers,
The Saker
Do not speak English, I have used google translator. But I’ve been following this blog often.
I no longer believe in the words of Putin.
I wonder what Putin would do if the strength of the New Russia took a statement, saying he would be abandoning the battle because of the lack of support from Putin? How would the credibility of Putin before his closest allies?
An attitude that effect would not force Putin to evaluate your posture altualmente?
Correction my dear Saker,
you meant Lyashko’s boy toys, LOL
We have heard that Ukraine wants to take over Crimea, and perhaps a Humanitarian Airlift like the one in Berlin in 1948 and 1949 could keep the region supplied.
We know that Crimea already has many modern weapons, and so if there ever was a need for a Humanitarian Airlift, then it would be Civilian supplies.
There are People who are saying that there is another Cold War, and so perhaps Historians can look at the Tactics that were successful for each side, and there is a saying which says that if you wish to be successful, then copy successful People.
For the file on the ‘who is Putin?’ question.
( Personally I dont thing we have seen anybody of his caliber since C. de Gaulle.)
For crying out loud. When Putin DOES something — or makes some announcement — or sends in spetsnaz — wake me up. Then let’s discuss. In the meantime the anti-Putin trolls are boring me to sobs. Let him DO something before ripping him a new one or whining that you “no longer trust Putin”. Grow up.
In the meantime — anyone see the latest MSM news and video of Obama on his fundraisers the other day? He looks and acts like he’s been doing some serious shit — drug-wise. His behavior is truly bizzare. Maybe his drug habits prevent him from reading a newspaper about his CIA getting wacked by Merkel. Too stoned. All the time. What a pathetic cut-out.
You guys that complain about Putin should live with BO.
Ukraine cannot blockade Crimea and to try do so would be an act of war that would elicit a military response. Ukraine is trying to prevent nations other than Russia from having commercial relations with the peninsula through ‘legal’ maneuvers.
From ITAR-TASS:
“…“The actions of the Ukrainian side are a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international law. The Russian side lodges a strong protest to the Ukrainian side and demands that shellings of the Russian territory be stopped,” the ministry said in a statement.
“In case of repetition of such cases, the entire responsibility for their consequences will lie with the Kiev authorities,” the statement said.“
We will see what that means.
Militia has driven junta forces away from Karlivka defending an approach to Donetsk. Heavy bombardment of Lughansk.
Regarding html embedded links – yes a convenience, but no trouble to activate plain text ones and they allow clear view of the source before activation. Of course one can check embedded ones as well but that requires extra attention.

I fully agree!
I am starting to think that one some in Russia have been denouncing as an organized anti-Putin campaign is really happening. The guys gets ripped into shred just for waiting and not doing anything *visible*. How crazy is that?
I solemnly promise to deliver a vehement anti-Putin rant IF (<<== see the ‘if’ – it is a *hypothetical* okay, don’t make me say what I never said) he really betrays, sells-out or if he otherwise back-stabs the people of Novorossia. But until that happens, I find this Putin-bashing campaign simply ridiculous.

PS: now I fully do understand those who *fear* that Putin will not withstand the pressure or sell-out, and I share these fears, but we should not confuse our fears with present realities or treat our worst-nightmares like prophets.
Nice anecdote APOL.
Gilberto – greetings to Brazil. Condolences and be proud of Brazil’s role as WC host if that is your home. You should trust what Mr. Putin says IMO. Russia will not fight with soldiers unless all other options are closed. We are not there yet.

If only these “ferocious looking” novorussians were prepared to join the resistance ranks of Strelkov …..you,d think with a few million of them you could muster at least a 50,000 fighting force,,, then we would not have to worry about Putin sticking his neck out and Russia really getting sanctioned….by the ugly west….to date most novorussians are just that….barking dogs…dont be surprised if they fall in a month like the Ukies are saying…I hope I am wrong….but it seems that many are being spectators…there is no revolution here why are we trying to visualize one…if they really dont want the nazis everyone from kharkov to odessa should have been carrying a gun by now….sadly the west is in the driving sit at this moment.

The words of everyone’s favorite prosecutor:
“Asked about a possibility of forced migrants to assert their rights in Ukraine, the prosecutor replied with emotion: “Look what is going on in Ukraine! What is the law there and who are the authorities protecting? A bunch of people who gathered together and dictate their conditions to the others and God knows what they are about?”
“Which law regulates murder of ordinary citizens?” the CrimeaInform quoted Poklonskaya as saying. “Who has given them a right to murder? The law does not work in Ukraine, there is none there.”
“The people who came here and are now enjoying protection of Russian law and Russia testify to this fact,” she said.”

I wonder why Russian media is so passive. I know some might disagree with me but the majority of articles coming out of Russia are very shy at expressing the full extent of goriness in E.Ukraine. Most of what we know is mostly reported through eyewitness accounts and some independent blogosphere. Why is it so difficult to talk about truth? Compare to the American super loud lies, the Russian truth is somehow drowned in the noise of western propaganda.

“K. P : Et de quoi avez-vous parlé, lors de votre rencontre informelle avec Vladimir Poutine ?”
What Gérard Depardieu says is more powerful than he probably knows. He gives us an account of his conversation with a man, who is today responsible not only for his own country, but also for world peace. Putin speaks to us through Gérard.
When I see Putin I also think of Charles de Gaulle. I also remember 1968. I understand well the sentiments of that time, I was a teenager, but over the years I have started wondering if the Empire wanted to unseat him with an early colour revolution. Not much came of the movement in real terms, except the fall of de Gaulle, who had left NATO/OTAN and demanded gold for every dollar France had – and got it. In other words, he challenged the Empire. We may never know for certain, but I suspect he was unseated by the American elite.
Interestingly, when the British also wanted gold for their dollars the answer was NO. Nixon abandoned the gold standard and the dollar fell a lot. In 1971, I exchanged dollars in Switzerland and was very disappointed with what I got in return. I can’t back it up, but I think the UK as a country has had a complicated relationship with the US for a long time. The city of London is another matter.
The video is an old video.
The Unit? Ukraine has a very professional Counter Terrorist (CT) Unit, called Alpha Unit (same as Russia).
I have been to their barracks and range and it is good enough for a CT unit on a small budget.
The guys are skilled, good operators. Not all Ukie Defense Force are shit, but obviously most are.
These guys (Alpha) are professional. They have been doing some of the fighting in the East and have lost guys as well.

The Roman Empire had its Praetorian Guards… nevertheless, they went off the deep end.
I think it is very important to focus on the big picture [as difficult as that might be] and not on some loose ends as indicators where the real fight might evolve into next.
Speculation is good for bond markets, but second guessing has always missed the first mark.
Regardless of when these events took place, the important thing the people of Novorossia needs to know is that they are at the forefront of the war against zio-nazism that unites all the peoples of Europe.
They must realize that, although they may feel alone in this fight, they represent the hopes and dreams of millions of citizens in the west.
The Banderist criminals represent only themselves and the evil interests that support them.
They will never represent the will of the western peoples.
Those are for peace, justice and brotherhood with the great Russian people.
May the Russian people succeed in their fight against Banderastan.
They will be liberating not only themselves but all of Europe from the nazi scum!
I believe that Pres.Putin has a long term strategy regarding the whole current confrontation with the zio-nazi powers. Remember that the banderists are just proxy warriors doing someone elses bidding.
The most important fights against the Empire are mostly “invisible” because they are taking place behind the scenes, in negotiating rooms, with diplomats, trying to convince the BRICS countries to challenge the dollar and the europeans to change sides.
That is the game changing “chess move”. To bring down the Empire without bloodshed.
That is the smart thing to do and what would Sun Tzu undoubtedly recommend.
Time is running out for the empire and Putin knows that.
He also knows the empire will do everything to make Russia look like the agressor so as to justify aggression.
Putin must avoid direct war for Russia and he will only move militarilly as a last resort.
He must focus on winning the hearts and minds of the peoples of the west and the full support of the governments of the BRICS before getting directly involved.
That is the smart thing to do and Pres. Putin is undoubtedly a great statesman.
Having said that, I do believe that Russia should act and start covertly supporting the pro-russian militias by supplying them with some heavy weapons and also satellite intelligence.
Perhaps even a couple of thousand Tchetchen “volunteers”.
Even a few well armed and led quality soldiers are bound to wreak havoc among the banderists.
It would be great if they could capture and expose some of the western mercenaries fighting for the banderists.
They could hardly be accuse of escalating anything since the other side is already using foreign hands.
Bottom line. I’m convinced this is the correct approach for the time being.
Someone has done a rather nice job of sabotaging a railwy line near Dontesk. This was shortly after someone also sabotaged a railway bridge over a motorway. The motorway was blocked to heavy vehicles but people and smaller vehicles could pass with care. Extra points are awarded for them doing it whilst a train was passing over the bridge.
In the past, the Ukies have used railways for rapid transport of massed armor. Now maybe they will have to make more use of more expensive road transport. I am surprised that remote controlled IED’s haven’t been used against Ukie armour convoys. One going off when Poroshenko was passing would be a very effective enema.
The frustrated Putin-bashing occurs because the individuals have an American / Western view of the world – ‘might makes right’, ‘shoot first ask questions later’. Putin has stated clearly his approach in his anecdote about Afghanistan. He quoted a KGB operator there who rated his success by the number of missiles he didn’t use. Putin wasn’t forced to tell this story. He chose too.
He is currently working through all possible diplomatic approaches. The latest OSCE approach to discuss the Ukraine problem was vetoed by the US and Ukraine. They do not want to even talk about the problem. When all diplomatic means have been exhausted, then military means with all the deaths of innocent civilians that will be caused by both sides may be necessary. Ukraine may actually implode before then anyway.
I do not understand people who think killing people and destroying property (which is all any military can do) is a solution of first resort.
There is a marvelous comment on Orlov’s piece by someone names Roille Figners:
“Why expend a bunch of effort to knock down an opponent if you know he’ll fall flat on his face if you simply wait long enough?”
Given the real risks of an overt action, plus, again, Putin’s actions demonstrating a strict adherence to the rule of law and genuine cooperation between nations, the contrast between what we are doing and what he has to offer, to everyone everywhere, could not be greater. And he doesn’t *have* to say it and Russia doesn’t need to market or propagandize: it’s all right out there for anyone who looks.
Plus, quite frankly, it’s just lovely NOT being marketed to, isn’t it? All these people expending all this effort to lie bigger and better, and he just simply goes on his business and tells the truth. Again, the contrast couldn’t be greater.

Psychopaths tend to see decent people behaving decently as fools. Otoh, other decent people — as in the rest of the world — do see the difference and appreciate both the strength and courage often required to face down bullies without descending to their level.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry also presented its updated White Book of human rights violations to the OSCE today, http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/739950, while Putin called cyber-espionage blatant hypocrisy and a violation of human rights, and Moscow is now ready for international monitoring on her border with Ukraine, http://en.ria.ru/russia/20140710/190874911/Moscow-Ready-for-International-Monitoring-on-Border-With-Ukraine.html

Strategic Culture has an excellent and thought-provoking examination of Poland by Dmitry Minin,
http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2014/07/07/bumps-and-ruts-on-ukraines-polish-road-europe.html
Although there is also pushback by many Poles against this, and — as is generally our wont — we may be using this for very different purposes,
“Warsaw’s main motives for supporting Kiev are of a geopolitical nature rather than an economic one, and they have nothing to do with charity. The idea that a significant part of modern Ukraine was once part of Poland and that in the next round of history it could still be «reunited with the motherland» lives on in the Polish consciousness. Comments to the effect that «after waiting for a suitable period, the Poles could create a federation with Ukraine» are frequently encountered in the Polish media. Publicly expressing such ideas on the official level is not considered proper, but the entire educational system and state and religious ideology of Poland is based on the view that the «Kresy Wschodnie» were Polish and were taken away from the Poles unfairly.”
I can’t work out whether this report is saying the Donbass militia is actually closing the trap on the Ukies in the south east corridor along the Russian border driving the Ukie battalions back to Mariupol, or trying to blame the shots landing in Russia on the militia, or both.
Yonatan, my read is that the post expresses strategy (cutting the ‘sasuage’ into pieces more easily digested), not something that has occurred and explains why some shells land in Russia without assigning blame to one side or the other.
@ Yonatan,
The days when standing armies would meet somewhere out in the field have long since gone. Today’s propaganda is as easy to catch as a bucket load of water with non-cobwebbed hands.
I find Strelkov’s manner and body language extremely composed and as such stands out against the sore thumb that represents the west. The Ukrainian army no feels what it’s [or was] like to be a US grunt in Iraq or Afghanistan. You are not welcome, no matter what you ulterior motives might be. As such I don’t understand the moral of the forces loyal to Poro, because they’re up against wo/men who’re defending their livelihoods, so those forces will never, ever win. The history bin is littered with ample examples of such misguided endeavors.
Hi Saker !
I watched the video after reading your comments, and its a beautiful thing you say. These soldiers are great people. I guess they are part of the Ukraine Military before all the pro-Russians were eliminated from it.

ITAR-TASS interview with VP on trip to Brazil:
“…QUESTION: How much attention will be paid during the talks in Latin America to the issues of the modern world order, which enables some players on the international arena to unilaterally claim significantly more extensive rights, including to spy even on those leaders that they call partners and to hack their phones?
VLADIMIR PUTIN: The 21st century world is globalised and interdependent. Therefore, no state or group of countries can unilaterally tackle major international problems and any attempts to build a separate “oasis of stability and security” are doomed to failure.
In order to meet numerous challenges and threats we have to stop trying to impose development models on other countries. This approach has repeatedly proven its ineffectiveness. It does not just fail to facilitate conflict resolution, but leads to instability and chaos in international affairs.
Today, it is especially important to consolidate the international community’s efforts to ensure equal and indivisible security, as well as to resolve disputes trough the application of international law and with the central coordinating role of the UN.
As for the facts of cyber espionage that you mentioned, it not only amounts to overt hypocrisy in relationships between allies and partners, but also a direct violation of the state’s sovereignty, an infringement on human rights and an invasion of privacy. We are looking forward to jointly developing an international information security system.”
http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/739978
I also listened to his press conference from early March where he spoke about protection of Russian citizens and the use of military force – “an extreme measure only to be used as a last resort”.
Mr Putin has been singing the same tune for many years now. His position has not changed substantially on these issues as far as I can tell and I don’t expect it will now.
This is a translation of what Depardieu said, for those who don’t understand Franch:
Gérard Depardieu : Putin told me about his father, Vladimir Spiridonovitch. He had been wounded during the siege of Leningrad. His wife would visit him at the hospital, and he’d give her part of his meal so she could feed their child, Viktor (Vladimir’s older brother). Afterwards, she was forbidden from visiting her wounded husband. And then later, after he was released from the hospital, when he went back home he came across some people who were carrying victims of the siege who had died of starvation or cold. Among the bodies, he recognized his wife. “Let her be, she is alive!,” said Vladimir’s father. They told him that it didn’t make any sense, that she was dying anyway… But he took her with him and saved her live. Putin’s older brother, Viktor, died. A fate like that…
LOL, Yonatan, love the language the report use. After they cook the sausage they can make more by let new UKR troop in, then cook some more.:-)
Dear Saker, I am Brazilian and I’m grateful you praise the CW.

Big hug.

Slowly Russia is gathering more open support.
There is a Crosstalk Video Titled: Ukraine, end of the Beginning, where a Russian guest did not say what was correct with regards to Serbs and Albanians, and he should have checked his Facts, and had much of his contribution been like this comment, then he would have been more effective in my opinion.
America and the other NATO Countries along with their Media have supported and continue to support Nazi Racist Albanians of Serbia’s Province of Kosovo to Ethnically Cleanse Non Albanians from Kosovo, and Falsely Blame it on the Innocent Serbian Victims, and then Falsely Claim that the Kosovo Albanians were the Victims of Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing from by the Innocent Serbs.
The Americans and the Leaders of Terrorist Mafia Kosovo Albanians Ordered the Kosovo Albanians to flee from Kosovo, and to ensure that, NATO bombed the Albanians whom they Lied they were protecting, and the Leaders of Terrorist Mafia Kosovo Albanians murdered all those Albanians who refused to flee to other Countries so that the Western Media could show Films to blame it on the Innocent Serbs.
The Russian guest should have then continued to say that even as America has succeeded with their Lies on Serbia and Kosovo, then America is succeeding with their Lies on Ukraine, even as America has succeeded with their Lies in many other parts of the World.
There are People who are reluctant to admit that America succeeds with its Lies, because when America hears that it gives them an Elated Sense of Joy at doing Evil, and which is known as Hubris.
However, I think that it is better that People understand the Hopelessness of the situation for the World, because neither lying about it or telling the truth about it is going to change the Reality for a Unipolar World.
I think it is better to say that a Unipolar World is Hopeless, because People are looking for Hope, and there can be No Hope if America keeps succeeding with its Lies, and so in time, Many People will stop believing the Lies of America, which has made a success of America, and it is why we have a Unipolar World, rather than a Multi Polar World.
