There is a lot of nonsense and garbage floating around on the Internet about the personality of Vladimir Putin, mostly written folks who not only know nothing about him, but who don’t even understand the basics about how the Russian state works. Today, I want to share with you a video (especially translated or this purpose by the Russian Team) in which the renowned Russian economic Mikhail Khazin shares his view of Putin and of Putin’s current position vis-à-vis the hostile and russophobic West. I don’t always agree with Khazin, and even in this case I don’t fully agree with some of what he says, but I think that Khazin has really “nailed the bottom line on the head” (how is that for a combo-neologism?). Seriously, I think that Khazin is fundamentally correct, especially about the West’s refusal to accept Putin has anything else than a very junior partner (and even that was in the past, now they want him dead). Where I disagree with Khazin is when he implies that Putin wanted or even believed that such an honest partnership was possible. Medvedev – yes. But not Putin. By training and by trade he knew the West, and especially its ruling elites, extremely well and I believe that Putin pretended to play the “partnership game” for as long as possible to buy as much time as possible for his party which I refer to as the “Eurasian sovereignists” (folks like Shoigu or Rogozin), as opposed to the “Atlantic Integrationists” (folks Medvedev or Kudrin). Anyway, listen to Khazin – who is superbly informed and who knows his stuff – and get a rare insider view of what is really happening behind the Kremlin walls.
The Saker
PS: one more important thing: according to the anti-Kremlin polling organization Levada-Center, Putin’s popularity is now at its historical highest level: 87%!! Those who constantly bash Putin and predict that sanctions will have a crippling effect on Russia ought to ask themselves what they (think they) know which the Russian people don’t. The real reason for Putin’s popularity is very simple: there is a very large consensus in Russia in support for the manner in which Putin has been handling the Ukrainian crisis. Furthermore, most Russian people, even those who used to be critical of Putin, see straight through the real motives of the current oligarch-financed anti-Putin campaign. However, this support is predicated on the belief that Putin will not let the Nazis overrun Novorussia. If that happens, then the sky-high support will drop extremely fast and Putin’s entire legacy will be in real danger, which is why I don’t believe that he can, or will, allow that to happen. At the risk of sounding over the top, I would say that Putin’s future is linked to the future of Novorussia. If it manages to survive (in whatever form), so will Putin. If the Ukies overrun it, then all hell will break lose in Russia. But, again, I don’t believe that this will happen.
Yes. And I believe Putin and other BRICS/non-aligned, anti-American and some EU countries will be proposing a new system of international understanding, because the current one is just all about DC power, fuck everything else. The UN, laws, all of that shit has been thrown out. So it’s essentially, do we want to live together in the future on this planet or do we want to perish in a nuclear war. And if we want to live together, there needs to be a new way. Putin is certainly at this point, the key historical figure in the 21st century for exposing the contradictions and having the courage to start moving in a new direction.
Will the Ukies turn away from Donbas and make a Hail Mary strike on Crimea with their remaining forces?

Off topic. Message to Saker. The following link is a ukranian news report about Poroshenko investigating 3500 MIA soldiers. Putin – and the Chinese leadership, too – might usefully set out their Eurasian vision with specific reference to the peoples of Europe. The times are propitious: there are no competing grand visions from Washington and/or Brussels; and the credibility of both is in tatters. A peaceful and prosperous future is entirely possible, he should explain, but only if American totalitarianism is repudiated.
By the way, the Beria interregnum offers a cautionary tale of what happens when a significant section of the Moscow elite finds greater unity of interest with Washington than a domestic reformer who refuses to respect the former’s privileges.

I recommend to everyone a book by Christopher Simpson, THE SCIENCE OF COERCION, which I believe is now available as a PDF on the internet.
Anyone who wants to understand how propaganda works needs to understand how vilification works. It is important to put a face on the enemy. If you think of, for example, Russia as a country, then you begin to consider national interests. If you think of Russia as Putin, and you can make Putin fit into the clothes of Stalin or the Czars or Hitler, then your job of convincing the masses is much easier.
It should not surprise anyone that Iraq was about Saddam, not Iraqi national interests, and thus, asking what American interests are in the region. The US has spent fifteen years in Afghanistan, the US public believes, because Osama bin Laden once lived in a cave there.
Want to create chaos in Libya? Reroll some stories about Pan Am 103 (although a close examination of the evidence points to the Frankfurt milieu of Arab terrorists and German intelligence through which Mo Atta passed a decade later). Assad is a bad man who tortures political prisoners, although no one seems to remember that it was one of the many destinations for extraordinary renditions.
The sad thing is that the propaganda works. No one in the western media is asking why it’s been taking so long for the black box information to be released, or where US intel sat images are, or the conversations from the Kiev ATC are.
Most people consume what’s on the plate put in front of them.
While I’m thinking aloud – in this instance, voicing a criticism – why no PR campaign from the BRICs?
To keep the tone constructive, how about a short, simple sequence to camera in which each of the leaders delivers the single powerful message: The Washington Consensus isn’t working: it brings only death and destruction. There is a better and more humane way.
There is a bitter, disillusioned and largely disenfranchised world to be won. Go out and make your case. It is good one.

Saker. As we suspect, it is all about economics in general and the dollar in particular. For Putin to succeed it is important 2 aspects I suppose 1) try to hold together as much as possible at home with power personalities and 2)Unity of the BRICS specially China. The Empire no doubt will try every mean possible to seed division as it uses to do. I would not be surprised if ie. China is promised some kind of blackmail by the masters so in the meantime to attack Russia only. It of course be stupid if China accepts to play this game since they are on target too no question. In my honest opinion one big factor for the world, mankind to survive is the decoupling from the dollar.
@Robert Miller,
Well said :)

Russia Report Putin
The year was 1992: It was two years after the implosion of communism; the place was St.Petersburg. For years I had been creating programs to open up relations between the two countries and hopefully to help Soviet people to get beyond their entrenched top-down mentalities. A new program possibility emerged in my head. Since I expected it might require a signature from the Marienskii City Hall, an appointment was made. My friend Volodya Shestakov and I showed up at a side door entrance to the Marienskii building. We found ourselves in a small, dull brown office, facing a rather trim nondescript man in a brown suit. He inquired about my reason for coming in. After scanning the proposal I provided he began asking intelligent questions. After each of my answers, he asked the next relevant question. I became aware that this interviewer was different from other Soviet bureaucrats who always seemed to fall into chummy conversations with foreigners with hopes of obtaining bribes in exchange for the Americans’ requests. CCI stood on the principle that we would never, never give bribes. This bureaucrat was open, inquiring, and impersonal in demeanor. After more than an hour of careful questions and answers, he quietly explained that he had tried hard to determine if the proposal was legal, then said that unfortunately at the time it was not. A few good words about the proposal were uttered. That was all. He simply and kindly showed us to the door. Out on the sidewalk, I said to my colleague, “Volodya, this is the first time we have ever dealt with a Soviet bureaucrat who didn’t ask us for a trip to the US or something valuable!” I remember looking at his business card in the sunlight––it read Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.
….
Year 2001: Jack Gosnell (former USCG mentioned earlier) explained his relationship with Putin when the latter was deputy mayor of St.Petersburg. The two of them worked closely to create joint ventures and other ways to promote relations between the two countries. Jack related that Putin was always straight up, courteous and helpful. When Putin’s wife, Ludmila, was in a severe auto accident, Jack took the liberty (before informing Putin) to arrange hospitalization and airline travel for her to get medical care in Finland. When Jack told Putin, he reported that the latter was overcome by the generous offer, but ended saying that he couldn’t accept this favor, that Ludmila would have to recover in a Russian hospital. She did––although medical care in Russia was abominably bad in the 1990s.

This is an unabashedly neocon site but the information is usually good. A hidden hand is busy stirring up problems on the border area of Russia as The Great Game continues.
I am sure that General Winter will soon come to assist Novorussia. Kiew cannot win on own its terms. The question now is whether it can win at all.
This is fascinating! Thank you, Russian Team and thank you, Saker. I am not totally sure of what Khazin means when he refers near the end to zones (Huntington comes to mind but I’d like to think he’s not talking about that!), but I do remember my first thought when the USSR “fell”, and that is that it fell of the weight of its unwieldy bureaucracy and, honest-to-gosh, I figured we were a mere twenty years away from doing the same thing.
Paul Rigby,
A couple of days ago someone here posted a solid refutation to the whole concept of counter-propaganda propaganda. I can’t do it nearly as well but consider just these two main points: We The People don’t count enough to matter, and are unlikely to notice until we get hit hard(er) where it really hurts: the wallet. Until then, any effort against our (comfortable, familiar) Party Line is just wasted; meanwhile our elites know dollars and cents, which is why the NAM and US Chamber of Commerce came out strongly against sanctions. But more important, if you’re playing a new game, as Khazin said, why play by the old rules? Russia has been straightforward in her goals, and the law-abiding, cooperative means she is using to achieve them. Why pay someone to do Western-type marketing if that is a part of what you’re striving to replace? I think it’s wonderful *not* hearing it, to be honest!
I guess the oil companies didn’t receive the note No Business with Bad Russia.

Russian people see clearly that Ukraine crisis is just the first step towards the full front NATO attack on Russia. At this point, the support for President Putin ( and his advisers like Sergey Glazyev) does not rest on the fate of Novorossiya and Ukraine in general. Putin is trying to avoid a nuclear war in the Northern Hemisphere by minimizing the local Ukrainian conflict and by making it more manageable. Not my idea but Gabor Steingart, the chief editor of Handelsblatt, Germany’s leading economic newspaper.

The attack on Russia and/or confrontation has been going on for decades, also using NATO to encircle that country militarily. The most recent provocation is Ukraine, in a so far politically botched attempt to weaken Russia and paint Putin as negatively as possible. http://goldsilverworlds.com/money-currency/precious-metals-will-rise-with-dollar-demise-just-not-soon/

Re: Putin under fire
Notice that Lavrov has been not so visible
lately? Has he been mediating the Armenia/Azerbajan conflict that all of a sudden worsened a few weeks ago? Ukraine may be the focal point but there are other geographical pressure points.
Notable quotes from the video:
“He will die or be put in prison.”
“They join Putin or they can go to Washington and work as clerks.”
Yesterday was a report that Putin fired 18 deputy ministers across the government.

And by his reference to zones around the globe we can determine the end to IMF, WTO, and many other institutions from which the Rules of the Elites are enforced.
The globalization has to end in zones, the biggest is Eurasia (3.5 Billion).
But if Eurasia develops, it will suck in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and probably even Egypt.
And if China’s FDI in Greece and Italy pay off, you can see how the market could be 4 Billion humans by today’s count. In another decade or so, 5-6 billion marketplace.
The only hope for the West is to create chaos and wars all around Eurasia. Not hard if they use they instrumentation of Islamic terror.
Now you see why the Elites have invested so much in AQ and ISIS and cultivate all the African hotspots and rampages.
As the video points out, the Elites are the Feudal Lords and will have no competitors on the planet if they can stop Putin, destroy Russia and terminate China’s New Silk Road terminus in Europe.
But this game is just underway for real. We haven’t seen China react as yet. And India will have no future if Russia and China are stopped. So the weight of scale, the clear-sighted leadership of the BRICS and the realism for Iran which needs Russia, as does Syria and Iraq and Egypt.
Every nation not in the club of Elites will be the feudal serfdom of the Elite Rulers of MegaWealth and MegaDeath.
But the pivot point, the keystone is VV Putin.
One really must ask. Why are the nations of Europe – even the EU – risking economic devastation and even nuclear annihilation for the sake of the hellish nightmare that is the state formation known as Ukraine? A decades long bloodbath in the making that only Russia in partnership with Europe can heal? Who is Angela Merkel? I understand the insanity of the US, as an American I’ve been fighting the government my entire life – but who is guiding these policies in Europe? Do they understand the consequences? The consequences that have already been set in train? People! Stop paying taxes, stop voting, stop working, stop the war!
brilliant analysis. I agree with other poster that Putin can set out an ‘alternate’ vision for europeans, he has been doing well in europe and the US hasn’t liked the more east leaning merkel and proposed ventures with the chinese. EU screwed up and they should have stood up to US Merkel would have been well within her rights after the US spying scandel to simply refuse to choose any route other than diplomacy. Missed opportunity and now theyre sucked into ‘proxy war’ in ukraine .. in effect supporting anti semetic Nazis of svoboda party. what an ironic mess.
Putin CANNOT win an “argument” (propaganda attack) with the “West”, even with all evidence on his side. The Zionist-controlled MSM reports “Western” lies and deception as “truth” and the American vast herds of “sheeple” simply swallow all the “official” Washington (actually, Tel Aviv) BS. So, if Putin (an independent Russia) wants to prevail (anywhere), the use of FORCE is inevitable! “Killing off” the EU (and Western Europe generally) economically IS the use of FORCE! Putin holds the winning cards – IF he plays all of them!
No pain, no gain! Russia will also suffer.
As a side note. From the Malaysian “New Straits Times”
US analysts conclude MH17 downed by aircraft
KUALA LUMPUR: INTELLIGENCE analysts in the United States had already concluded that Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by an air-to-air missile, and that the Ukrainian government had had something to do with it.
This corroborates an emerging theory postulated by local investigators that the Boeing 777-200 was crippled by an air-to-air missile and finished off with cannon fire from a fighter that had been shadowing it as it plummeted to earth.
In a damning report dated Aug 3, headlined “Flight 17 Shoot-Down Scenario Shifts”, Associated Press reporter Robert Parry said “some US intelligence sources had concluded that the rebels and Russia were likely not at fault and that it appears Ukrainian government forces were to blame”.
http://www.nst.com.my/node/20925
Linked to the above story.
Malaysian press charges Ukraine government shot down MH 17
A Thursday article in the New Straits Times, Malaysia’s flagship English-language newspaper, charged the US- and European-backed Ukrainian regime in Kiev with shooting down Malaysian Airlines flight MH 17 in east Ukraine last month. Given the tightly controlled character of the Malaysian media, it appears that the accusation that Kiev shot down MH17 has the imprimatur of the Malaysian state.
The US and European media have buried this remarkable report, which refutes the wave of allegations planted by the CIA in international media claiming that Russian president Vladimir Putin was responsible for the destruction of MH17, without presenting any evidence to back up this charge.

This video gives me the feeling that Russia is looking for its own identitiy, and that up to now it has apparently thought of itself as some sort of far-away and rural part of the glorious West. My heart goes out to Russia in this matter – but I believe that Russia is NOT an extension of the West: it is a bridge culture between East and West just as its geography and its genetic mix belong both to East and West. And I believe that if Russia can find the self-confidence to live and grow in that reality it can play an essential role in the world of tomorrow. Stay strong, Russia!
Thanks to the Russian Team for translating this.
I don’t have an opinion on whether Putin was initially going along with the western fascists/ziofascists because he believed in the “convergence” Khazin stressed, or because he wanted to keep the rejuvenation of Russian independence hidden from the ZPC/NWO.
I disagree with Khazin when he stated the USA would accept Russia moving away from the dollar. It is the fact that Russia is doing this that is at root to the ZPC/NWO attack on Russia right now, using the USA and EU as their bully boys. So, no, these fascists will not accept Russia dropping the dollar and threatening their main weapon of dominance in the world.
Another thing I disagreed with him was his claim about the Russian military:
“we don’t have military power, well, compared to them [USA].”
It is because the Russians do have that military power that the ZPC/NWO are afraid to outright attack Russia, like they have done in places like Iraq. This is also why these fascists/ziofascists have not begun a hot war against Iran. One doesn’t need overwhelming military strength to prevent an Israeli/American/NATO invasion of their country, just be effective enough to severely hurt the attackers.
Also, the fact Russia does have an effective nuclear deterrent remains a major reason why the ZPC/NWO wont repeat the German nazi attempt their predecessors arranged for in the 1930’s. The USA ran direct covert incursions into the USSR up to the mid 1950’s. These stopped then because the USSR acquired the means to directly attack the USA with nuclear weapons.
The USSR spent its whole existence under very strict sanctions from the western oligarchy. They not only survived, they flourished. They did it then, they can do it now. And now, they have the economic allies which the USSR lacked. Khazin is stressing that need for complete independence from the western oligarchs and their self-promoting “rules” which debilitate all into slavery.
Such independence the ZPC/NWO will never tolerate, so there is zero chance the next few years will be peaceful or stable.

The big picture, for me, is it all about resources and fossil fuels in particular. Net fossil fuel exporters such as Russia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia will be targeted by the Net fossil fuel importers. We are living in desperate times where unconventional oil production such as tight oil and tar sands is the only things keeping total World oil production from falling. Basically, to keep a long story short, oil importers want to sabotage the economies of the exporters. For example, a citigroup report a few years back said that by 2030, Saudi Arabia will use all the oil that it produces for itself. ie. Net exports will fall to zero. Obviously this will only happen if its GDP continues to grow as it has in the past. Same goes for Russia. Russia’s economy must be made to fail and the oil must be made to flow West not East. I view all world geopolitics in this light.
Interesting…
I am old enough to clearly remember Andropov. A solidly conservative man, thoroughly Russian. He was a man of honor, it seemed he loved his culture and genuinely sought to make life better for ordinary people at a time when the rest of the system lived for the ‘nomenclatura’ as it was called. He was most definitely not into elitism, but did work towards mutual respect – which I believe is what Putin has always sought.
Sadly, this economist does not understand power. He believes Putin should make a plan, put it out for all the world to see, and they will buy in cause of ‘the power of the idea’. That worked well in Libya! Not to mention how well the world loved the idea of federalism and mutual respect in Ukraine! At least he is true to the idealism of economists!
While his outline of some history is helpful, his strategy would be suicide. The only way forward is to keep your plan close to your chest and make it look like you are going in a completely different direction. This is what Putin has done. By not announcing his plans he has kept himself and his ideas alive.
Thanks to AntiNWO for the story related by Jack Gosnell – very enlightening.
Great video.
While you were posting it I was writing a comment on the same subject.
I agree with most of what Khazin says.
For the typical Russian oligarch the question goes something like this:
Do you want to be a partner with the Anglo-Zionists or do you want to be their bitch? The existence of Israel always complicates this question so the sooner we achieve a one state solution the sooner the rest of humanity can get on with building a better world.
I think this should be instructive to all those Western citizens who wait for Putin to save them from their own parasitical rulers.
It won’t happen.
Kudos to the Stop Harper folks and the many others who have finally gotten the message — it’s up to us to remove and prosecute the criminals who’ve put us here.
Personally I think we need at least three weeks with no electricity before we’ll even start thinking about it seriously.

The first sentence is true. I will add that most of these incursions consisted of the former Ukrainian/Belorussian fascists and survivors of the Gen. Vlasov army.
The second sentence is not true. More than 95% of these incursions failed because GRU (Soviet military intelligence) knew exactly where and when they will take place , thus effectively terminating them at the very start. This information comes from the book by John Loftus and Mark Aarons : Unholy Trinity: The Vatican, The Nazis, and The Swiss Banks.

@More than 95% of these incursions failed because GRU (Soviet military intelligence) knew exactly where and when they will take place , thus effectively terminating them at the very start.
I was extremely surprised that in the West there is virtually total ignorance of a hugely important aspect of WWII, the deep penetration of the OKW by the GRU. In the USSR and former socialist countries like Romania the story of Alexander Rado, the Hungarian spy established in Switzerland who fed the Soviets with invaluable military intelligence (like “summer German offensive aimed at the occupation of Caucasian oilfields would begin between 31 May and 7 June 1942”, “In April 1943, Stalin received news about the planned German offensive near Kursk”) was the subject of a very succesful book “Pod Psevdonimom ‘Dora’” (in Russian), 1973. I read it in Romanian in 1974.
Rado was able to transmit information received through the anti-Nazi agent Rudolf Roessler until 1943.
It was whispered in Romania in the ’50-60s that all “resistants” have been sold out by Kim Philby (in the late ’40s).
Hi Saker !
Mr Khazin is standing in a stable neighborhood in a big city in Russia, wearing a nice polo t-shirt and discussing in a relaxed intellectual way, Putin’s weak points and his dangers etc… but what was Russia like when Putin came into power…? Could Mr. Khazin have done what Putin did ? I doubt it.
I understood from the video of Mikhail Khazin, that Putin wanted to make convergence with the West… Western Europe being Germany of course, the most wealthy country in the EU…
But that Putin finally realized, (being such a novice), that the West has not ever wanted him.
First of all, Germany is not West, its Central….and unfortunately for the whole world, Germany has not recovered from the WW11 in a sufficient way to become the partner of Russia.
I think that Putin has tried and failed in his “convergence” because of covert politics…Merkel is clearly on the payroll of Washington … which is on the payroll of Great Britain… Merkel even reminds me of an English Lord…a total upper crust English Lord.
Perhaps Putin didn’t realize how much in control of the globe Western covert politics is, but he really wanted the right thing, which is Germany and Russia together in business and culture and politics. Instead of the right thing, we have the EU which is a bankster’s mafia.
Putin perhaps is idealistic…but being a true Russian that’s not out of place. I think Russia is Idealistic is the very greatest sense of the word…its in her “genes” so to say…
So now Putin has had to turn East. It remains to be seen in the long game how this works out…once Putin is gone … it can only be 25 years at the most… What then ? We may see a very totalitarian bloc formed in the East.
If Germany could only reach out her hand and shake Russia’s hand in an honest way, I think the world would be on track to the future..
This could still happen because the German people …for instance the wonderful video on youtube called “Obama Appalling War Rhetoric” … are an intelligent and noble race, but as a group they haven’t woken up sufficiently to the Western covert politics…and so they elect Merkel because she promised to get rid of nuclear energy…(we’ll see about that)… They don’t realize how very Western their whole culture and politics and finance has become…
But they’re not Western…they’re Central and they could offer the world better things than the West…if they only would be brave and bold enough to shake off their ridiculous war guilt and create something new…
Its been proven without doubt that the National Socialist Party was an invention and investment of … guess who ??? the Bank of England and Wall Street. See Prof.Guido Preparata’s “Conjuring Hitler” which gives a very scholarly and well researched analysis of the NSP.
Convergence is not a bad plan if you have honest partners…
not Mafiaosos in charge of the government and banks…
The big question is how to get that problem!!!

The need for metamorphosis of the Soviet Union was known to some at least from the times of Andropov.
It was necessary to appear as “junior partner” especially in the wild 90’s, and this has had mixed utility to date.
It was also necessary to have court jesters – try to be more understanding of Yeltsin, Zhirinovsky and Zuganov
The wild 90’s were also a hard lesson in dispelling illusions as well as an opportunity for opponents given to conflating appearance with reality to project their own prejudices and give freer rein to their arrogance, whilst others formulated and carried out strategies, perceptually at least on the peripheries.
The process is not finished.
It would appear that Mr. Khazin is misrepresenting/misunderstanding the discussions re convergence in the USSR.
If memory serves Mr. Andropov’s position was that the notion of convergence was a useful cover to metamorphise the Soviet Union whilst minimising interference by others.
Mr. Andropov after all was very active in obstructing foreign interference from the 1940’s onwards, and had a direct counter insurgency role during the Hungarian uprising of 1956.
@So now Putin has had to turn East. It remains to be seen in the long game how this works out…once Putin is gone … it can only be 25 years at the most
Has it cross your mind that this “East”, or rather Eurasia is the cradle (and the “core”) of all civilizations? That “history” made a full circle and is back to where it started?
Well, think that the “Drang nach Osten” was not only a yearning to return to the origins, but also the very realistic understanding that the “East” is also the “Lebensraum” for the simple reason that it has all the resources that the “West” lacks.

” It was whispered in Romania in the ’50-60s that all “resistants” have been sold out by Kim Philby (in the late ’40s). “
Mr. Philby never took any money for his efforts, so I suggest sold out is not appropriate.
Since some in British intelligence “knew his people”, he was promoted into the position for responsibility for post-war insertions into the “Soviet sphere of influence”.
That is why the “West” hates him so, and even in Moscow his handlers were intially suspicious especially post 1963.
In “intelligence” “operatives” are controlled through many means including but not restricted to, “getting with the team – belonging”,frustrated sense of self-importance,blackmail, being a member of the cognescenti, bribery – money and/or sex usually normally twinned with blackmail opportunities, making a contribution, making a difference.
However I would hazard there are some in diverse “security organisations” causing their handlers disquiet, perhaps to a sufficient degree to replicate the behaviours of James Jesus Angleton.
Likely Foggy Bottom is well named.
