Unless you read Russian or monitor the free blogosphere, you might not have noticed this, but something big just happened in Russia: Kerry, Nuland and a large State Department delegation have traveled to Sochi were they met with Foreign Minister Lavrov and then with President Putin. With the latter they spent over 4 hours. Not only that, but Kerry made a few rather interesting remarks, saying that the Minsk-2 Agreement (M2A) was the only way forward and that he would strongly caution Poroshenko against the idea of renewing military operations.
To say that this is a stunning development would be an understatement.
For one thing, this means that the so-called “isolation of Russia” is now officially over, even for the “Indispensable Empire”.
Second, this is, as far as I know, the first official US endorsement of M2A. This is rather humiliating for the US considering that M2A was negotiated without the Americans.
Third, for the very first time the US has actually warned the Ukronazi junta against a military attack. This, at a time when the Ukronazis are in a state of bellicose frenzy and Poroshenko just promised to re-conqueor not only the Donetsk Airport, but all of the Donbass and even Crimea, show that for the very first time the US and Kiev are not on the same page.
Fourth, the USA has, for the first time, declared that if M2A was implemented, EU and US sanctions would be lifted. Interestingly, the Russians were not even interested in discussing the topic of sanctions.
So what does that all mean?
At this point, nothing much.
Americans are terrible negotiators and in every single US-Russian negotiation over the conflict in the Ukraine the Russians completely out-negotiated their American “geostrategic partners” (the quasi-official ironic Russian term describing the West) every time. What typically happens, is that Kerry caves in, then comes back to Washington and changes his tune by 180 degree. The Russians know that and the Russian media stressed that in its analyses.
Still, the USA can zig and then zag as many times as they want, reality does not zag. If anything, the recent presence of Chinese and Indian troops on the Red Square showed that the notion of “isolating Russia” is a non-starter whether Kerry & Co. accept it or not.
Then, there was the rather interesting behavior of Nuland, who was with Kerry’s delegation, she refused to speak to the press and left looking rather unhappy.
Finally, a quick check of the Imperial Mouthpieces reveals that the Imperial Propaganda Department does not really know what to make of it all.
So what is going on, really?
Honestly, this one is too early to call and, as I said, the chances for yet another US “zag” are very high.
Still, what *might* be happening is that the Americans have finally (!) figured out a few basic facts:
- Russia will not back down
- Russia is ready for war
- The Nazi-occupied Ukraine is collapsing
- Most of the world supports Russia
- The entire US policy towards Russia has failed
All of the above is rather obvious to any halfway competent observer, but for an Administration completely intoxicated with imperial hubris, crass ignorance and denial these are very, very painful realities to catch up with. However, denying them might, at the end of the day, get the USA nuked. As the expression goes, if you head is in the sand, your ass is in the air.
Thus it is possible that what just happens is the first sign of a US sobering up and that what Kerry came to explore with Lavrov and Putin is some kind of face saving exit option. If that is so, then this is terminal news for Poroshenko as this means that the US has basically thrown in the towel in utter disgust with the freaks in power in Kiev.
Furthermore, this might be a sign that US military analysts have taken a very negative view of the Ukronazi changes of success in their planned “Reconquista” of the Donbass. By going to Russia and officially endorsing M2A Kerry might be sending a message to Poroshenko: forget it, it ain’t happening!
Still, I would strongly caution against any premature optimism. I consider a US “zag” a quasi-certitude. My hope is that the “zag” will be limited in magnitude and that when it happens, it will be more about face-saving exit for Obama than about a denial of reality.
What is certain though, is that Russia has won yet another battle is this long war and that all the signs are pointing at the inevitable defeat of the Empire.
The Saker
I would not go as far as characterize it as the defeat of the empire of chaos, but it looks like empire is in the stage of damage control. And I presume that Russia will be quite benevolent in this case, and will not be overusing this retreat. After all killing of people regardless of their convictions not really in the interest of Russia. Peace is always prefferred to war.
“Then, there was the rather interesting behavior of Nuland, who was with Kerry’s delegation, she refused to speak to the press and left looking rather unhappy.”
Wow, I didn’t know she was there. I thought she was busy in Macedonia. And unhappy? Could it be her masters are finally shortening her leash? About time. Maybe American leadership can learn to get along with other children on the playground, after all. Wow.
I read that Nuland was there and didn’t look happy when leaving. I hope Putin and Lavrov offered her cookies.
I totally agree with this analysis.
Or it could mean that the transnationals such as Monsanto and bigOil have gotten what they wanted already.
Dear Saker, please don’t remove this comment if it is written in Finnish language. It is a response to a Finnish poster in a hockey-related forum in Finland about the Ukrainian situation. I am not allowed to post there in the correct forum due to censorship. Thank you Saker for your good effort.
“Stepan Banderaa pidetään ukrainassa sankarina hänen neuvostovastaisesta toiminnastaan. Se että sen kritisointi on kriminalisoitu, en tietenkään ymmärrrä. Historiaa tuon henkilön elämästä ja hänen edustaman järjestön toiminnasta en lähde sen enempää arvostelemaan tai puolustelemaan, koska ei hirveästi kiinnosta.”
Kannattaa tutustua Banderan historiaan. Natsien liittolainen ja siviilien joukkoteurastaja. Juutalaisten tappamisessa Bandera oli erityisen kunnostautunut, jopa saksalaisia hirvitti se halukkuus jolla Banderan miehet päästivät juutalaisia päiviltä. Toinen merkittävä etnisen puhdistuksen kohde olivat puolalaiset, joita Banderan johtamat ukrainalaiset nationalistit tappoivat satojatuhansa Galiciassa ja Volhyniassa nykyisen länsi-Ukrainan alueella.
Banderan arvostelusta saat nykyisessä “demokraattisessa” Ukrainassa vankeusrangaistuksen. Nykyinen Ukrainan hallinto jakaa saman ideologian kuin Stepan Bandera, koska hallinnon edustajat tulevat pääasiassa läntisen Ukrainan alueela. Aihe on myös Puolassa ns. kuuma peruna. Puolan kulttuuriministeriö joutui mm. vetämään pois UNESCO:sta poliittisen painostuksen vuoksi tuota Galician-Volhynian joukkomurhaa koskevat dokumentit, koska asia oli haitallinen “Euroopan keskinäisen solidaarisuuden” kannalta.
Mihin “kiekkodiktatuuriin” viittaat?? Käsittääkseni Juhaht tarkoitti diktatuurilla sitä, että Venäjä maana on diktatuuri, ja tämähän ei pidä paikkaansa koska Euroopassa ei ole Ukrainan ohella muita diktatuureja.
per google:
“Stepan Banderaa will be held in ukraine as a hero in his neuvostovastaisesta of its activities. It that were vocally oriented is kriminalisoitu, of course, I ymmärrrä. The history of that person’s life and his represent the organisation I source more to criticize, or justify, because not that interested.”
You should consult Banderan history. Nazi ally and civilians joukkoteurastaja. The jews relating to the killing Bandera was especially done great, even in German this it the willingness to Banderan men let the jews stealth. Another major ethnic cleansing of the item were Polish, which Banderan led by the Ukrainian nationalistit killed satojatuhansa in galicia and Volhyniassa the current western-Ukrainian region.
Banderan judgment get in the current “democratic” Ukraine in prison. The current Ukrainian administration share the same ideology as Stepan Bandera, as government representatives come mainly from the western Ukraine to the rea. The subject is also in Poland, the so-called. the hot potato. The Polish ministry of culture was mm. to pull out of UNESCO to political pressure because of that Galician-Volhynian him concerning the documents, because the thing was harmful to the “European solidarity” in terms of the. The Polish of the thing is bothersome because Banderan cleansing the greatest sufferer was the jews, along with poles, but the matter is not properly able to keep on display, because it would put Banderaa to support Ukraine nykyhallinnon an embarrassing position.
“These your claims murhatuista critics and the opposition, the people I just sign. I’m not such a uutisointiin come across at all. Can you list even a couple of the name and the source. And a source I kelpuuta Russian propagandasivustoa.”
Of any due process does not naturally at least suomalaismedioissa much talked about, but it doesn’t mean they happened. This something: http://www.europeanforum.net/news/2085/string_of_murders_keep_kyiv_captivated
Further subdivisions into layout had a chance. I can offer, but let this here.
“And what will be the Eastern Ukraine crisis, the only thing that there is vyöryttänyt tanks Donbassiin is Russia.”
Really? I’ll probably have to recall that Donbassia launched against the “counter-terrorism” operation in may 2014 before Donbassin itsepuolustusjoukoilla was in possession of any of the tanks. Donbassin activists were engaged before the “counter-terrorism operation” in the beginning of the only public buildings occupation, which is not able to read sotilaalliseksi activity. The first battles of Kiev administration and Donbassin itsepuolustusjoukkojen took place between Slovianskissa, where the Kiev administration had at its disposal tanks, but Donbassin forces only light weapons. For this reason, Donbassin troops also lost their Slovianskin. Heavy weaponry Donbassin troops got possession of it until in the summer of 2014.
“War will always siviiliuhreja, they is definitely dead, the legal board of the troops from the fire, and so the Russian soldiers and venäläismielisten rebel fire. Unfortunate, but quite normal.”
Itseäänkö these rebels tulittavat, or which is based on the claim that civilians have died merkittäväsä extent of the rebel fire? I would guess that at least 90% siviiliuhreista is Kiev juntan-made.
“I left the conversation to take this direction, as already Juhaht spoke diktatuurista one personalized, and you tossed in the game ukrainakortin, which is not currently join the KHL and League level in any way”
What a miracle, “diktatuurista dial”? What “kiekkodiktatuuriin” you refer to?? I believe it Juhaht meant diktatuurilla that Russia as a country with dictatorship is, and this is not the case as in Europe, not Ukraine, in addition to other diktatuureja.
“Then, there was the rather interesting behavior of Nuland, who was with Kerry’s delegation, she refused to speak to the press and left looking rather unhappy.”
If Nuland didn’t speak it was because she was muzzled, and if she was the question is why? i.e. Why bring her if she is to be muzzled, unless her portfolio at State demands that she tag along. Given her reportedly bellicose and profane performance for an audience of US politicians after Minsk II, it can hardly be easy for her to accept even this pathetic diplomatic fig leaf.
Also keep in mind the increasing tension in Yemen, which most certainly would draw Russia and Iran closer together on one side and the US and Saudi into a tighter embrace on the other. Iranian frigates are escorting a ‘humanitarian mission’ (thank you Russia) to Yemen, which could easily result in an exchange of fire with the Saudis and complicate the American situation even more.
Nonetheless, this development is good if only that it publicly commits the US to Minsk II. Or perhaps this zag is to save Merkel, who has had her own problems lately and who may no longer be leading a unified German government. Perhaps this effort is an attempt to lower the temperature, and patch those relationships, while the Merkel mess blows over.
Another benefit for the US is that it gives it a chance to have Macedonia erupt into a full fledged conflagration and thus stymie Turk Stream for a few more years. Of course it might just give the US a chance to plan a proper false flag that they can blame on Putin and pull the proverbial rabbit out of their . . . (right).
But one thing is still clear, the junta in Ukraine cannot survive peace; war is absolutely necessary to save it. That being the case, the war will return, perhaps now later rather than sooner, but return all the same. This must be a bitter pill for the US because any delay allows Russia to consolidate her gains even more; Turk Stream is gathering apace; the BRICS bank offer to Greece; the end of Iranian sanctions and potential delivery of the s-300 system to Iran; the Russian/Chinese SWIFT alternative coming online, the Russian economy continues its rebound; and of course Ukraine is an unmitigated disaster. All the while Europe and the Anglo Zionists struggle to advance the fiction that their economies are improving and happy days are just around the corner. Time is not on their side, and they know it.
But before the Anglozionists will be put back into their basket, they are doing as much damage to the world as possible. They are driven by compulsivity & can’t be reasoned with, only restraint from outside will have an effect.
NATO Uses Clashes in Macedonia to Undermine Russia’s Gas Pipeline Project
From the link:
“According to Prorokovic, renewed Albanian insurgency in Kumanovo is likely to be orchestrated by the United States and its NATO allies to derail Moscow’s pipeline plans.”
Ever since the US has ‘base Kosovo’ otherwise known as ‘Camp Bondsteel’,the KLA and it’s descendants are ‘useful idiots’.
The picture of the ‘Demonstrators’ is a joke, only the first two rows are engaged….the rest look like ‘rent -a- crowd.
The article claims that 1 in 4 in Macedonia are ethnic Albanians, so instead of destroying another country for Nato & the US, let them go to live in Albania!
If there is anything Russia has learned after a thousand years of pressure coming from the West, it is that revenge (from the West) never gets tired.
This may or may not be connected to Putin and Kerry talking about Syria, but it is very intriguing.
Turkey says training, arming of Syrian rebels delayed
May. 12, 2015 3:57 AM EDT
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey’s foreign minister says the start of a joint Turkish-U.S. program to train and arm Syrian rebels fighting the Islamic State group has been delayed.
Mevlut Cavusoglu said in an interview on Turkish state television Monday that the program has been pushed back due to technical reasons and not because of any disagreement with the United States. He did not say when the program would start.
Turkey and the U.S. reached a deal on training and arming the rebels in February after several months of negotiations. Turkish officials had previously said training would begin in March but later pushed the start date to May.
The U.S. Defense Department has said it is aiming to train 5,000 Syrians a year for three years in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

I had two other thoughts when I read about the Kerry meeting in Sputnik: (totally my thoughts, opinion)
1. I feel there was pressure from Merkal and others against U.S. agressive warmongering in UA going totally against the Minsk-2 Agreement that the four (Germany, France, Russia, + UA tagging along). Merkel has made it more than clear they do not want war in Europe.
2. It looks like there are six or seven countries that will not go along with furthering sanctions against Russia. If sanctions are dropped end of July, U.S. would look stupid with egg on their face without EU allies supporting them.
It is sad to read the comments here when both Russia and the US and the World are winners over this. This is a reverse Cuban Missile Crisis with the Russian Federation not backing down. It is a win for Kerry and Obama over the Military Industrial Complex and warmonger such as Cheney , Nuland, Hillary Clinton and John McCain hung out on the clothesline for a good airing. Let’s hope that it will lead for cooperation and genuine diplomacy in the future. As well, the people of Ukraine need to rebuild their country and rid themselves of the oligarchs and right wing nationalists and come up with a solution to the huge divide between the East and West Ukraine which now may have to be resigned to a complete separation.
Fat hope. The Hegemon is just like the current Ukrainian regime, except very very powerful; just buying time to prepare for more sinister moves when they see the current trend not favorable. Fall for it and Russia and ROW (Rest Of World) will be toast.
Don’t be sad. Russia knows that she can never rest on her laurels. Not in the immediate future. But she has Crimea back, her Shining Sun, and that makes it all worthwhile. That’s a good start this century. Can’t all be undefeated all the time, like Kincsem, the greatest race horse that ever lived; but she was made out of rubber, like a superball.
I don’t know if it’s all that simple? The US are more than likely to say one thing while giving an order to their NAZI compatriots to do the complete opposite.
It is not beyond Kerry to say publicly that Minsk2 is the only way forward while secretly advising Poroshenko to start bombing Donetsk, Gorlovka and Luhansk. As a matter of fact that is what happened just last night.
The other real possibility is that Kerry say’s one thing publicly but carries no authority within the State Depart or, with the Neo-Cons like Nuland.
Any of these two simple scenarios are not a stretch of the imagination when it comes to the US State Department/Pentagon/Neo-Con Adherers.
I hope you’re right though!!
It almost make me cry for mr Putin …this is a man that is being called names (man up),(accept that you shot down mh17),degraded his currency, expelled from g8 …and on top of that surrounded with atomic weapons ….what more pressure can you take? ….at the end …the same people that is making all this trouble are knocking his backdoor (Sochi )for a cup of coffee….he diserves a monument now that he is alive, and install it at the entrance of the UN .
What we have here is a conflict between the National Security establishment and the Obama administration. Because the American people elected a novice, we get a confusing policy where we go headlong into neoconservative aggression then suddenly get a correction toward sanity. Can we stay sane or will we go back to neocon insanity? Who knows?
To add to this: the 70 th world celebration of the victory against fascism was held in Moscow. Not Paris, not London, not Washington.
It is not easy to catch all the implications of this.
Nuland…arrg are you kidding me!
I wouldn’t trust them with anything.
Zionist Jews who started the mess in Ukraine for NATO no wait there is more behind that, there is the CFR there is the Trilateral Commission.
Kagan is head of Monsanto for crying out loud!
Russia never blink!
I agree with much of the Saker’s POV here. The sharp turn in US diplomacy was further evident by the blatant neocon reaction to Kerry’s ‘useless’ visit on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/13/opinions/aron-kerry-russia-meeting/. Put Nyland’s feelings right alongside that article. What you have here is a clear move by Obama to push Kerry and the entire State Department into stark reality and save what could possibly still be saved of his disastrous foreign policy. Yet to count on this fully is as yet foolish; the US/Obama can still make another about face if public opinion actually takes notice apart from this wayward neocon reaction.
But true: Obama doesn’t want another Cold War, realizes Ukraine is a lost cause, and wants to salvage some issues in the Middle East. Likely, the Merkel visit to Putin earlier was also a facet of this, where Merkel probably indicated strongly to Obama that EU sanctions were not viable for much longer. In order not to appear to run behind the EU cart, the US went ahead of the game by this about-face.
Angela wants her gas.
Ketchup Kerry and his gang just made a stop in Sochi on their route to the Nato summit. That’s it.
Nobody trust the US anyway, even less Putin(maybe Medvedev still trust them a bit? lol).
Nothing will change. There is maidan à la Macedonia forseen for the 17 th of may, organized by nulandistan terrorist from Kosovo. It is not over there,Meyssan is wrong on this. Then nothing will happen in Greece,Tsipras is just an ‘open europe aka Soros’asset,a faux opposition to the empire.
Same in Spain with dying Podemos. In Ireland Sinn fein is probably more serious about being against the empire for the next elections(due to their militant and civil war past).Front National in France is the same BS(Le Pen was received in NYC at the Time 100 people of the year award with red carpet).Even if she looks pro russian in words.Anyway french people will never give her 50 pct of their votes to become president(and the party is very weak in parliament due to the electoral system which protects the one in power the umps mafia). If necessary dgse or mossad will kill her,or some ‘charlie’ attack will happen before the election if she was ever approaching the power..
Don’t forget it is only about the petrodollar, the gaz pipelines and to destroy first RF then China(in their wet dreams). To save the US from bankruptcy and total collapse, even if they need to sacrifice europe one more time they will not hesitate one second.
Everything is linked, nobody cares about the Ukraine or the Donbass, even less about Assad or Iran or even Greece.
It is just Gazprom versus the empire.
Russia has plan for gas pipeline via Macedonia by-passing NATO Bulgaria … so LNG-rich Qatar’s Al Jazeera rages v Skopje
Russia’s Stroytransgaz has announced that it will build a gas pipeline across (FYR) Macedonia, which could eventually be used as part of a route to supply Europe with Russian gas via Turkey. Macedonia will have its own source of energy. Today the country has energy dependence indicator of 47, 9 percent – the second largest after Croatia (52%). The importance of the pipeline going across Macedonia is immense. It will become the key component of all-Balkans energy system linked to the Russia-Turkey joint Turkish Stream project on the construction of gas route leading to Central and South Europe.
According to Stroytransgaz, the 96.6 km (60 miles) Negotino-Klecovce gas pipeline will cross Macedonia from near the Greek border in the south up to the vicinity of the Serbian border in the north. Stroytransgaz will build 61 km of the link by June 2016.
Of course, Macedonia presents some risks due to internal political instability and the emergence of Albanian factor. The West’s intention to frustrate the Russia’s plans is obvious. There are grounds to believe that the recent round of political confrontation in Skopie was incited by the West. The events have all the making of «color revolution» inspired from outside. But one way or another, Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia have to think about their energy needs. Common reason makes them realize that close cooperation with Russia meets their interests. All planned and existing energy routes go to the region from the East, not from the West. Liquefied gas tankers from Qatar or Algeria don’t drop anchors Belgrade, Sophia or Skopie.

I just think they are acting and trying to dull Russia.
Still think their ultimate aim is to force Russia to intervene militarily into Ukraine.
So this is good way to dull the readiness of general public in LPR/DPR.
Also, Ukies armies are not well-trained yet…
“Americans are terrible negotiators”? No, they negotiate in bad faith.
But you can’t think the Russians are nincompoops who can be bamboozled and led by the nose by the Kagan/Nulands, either.
The reports about the “unhappiness” of Vicki “F**k EU” are a sign that the discussions at Sochi (which, BTW, were almost secret, not to much talked about in the press) were serious. Ukraine was the pet project of the Kagan Cabal, the Yats and Poro, their chocolate soldiers. The Kagans might even had a personal interest:
“The Americans offered to invest $10 billion into the Crimean economy, and also to create a Republic, where Jews from all over the world could resettle. The name of Michoels was raised as a possible leader of this Republic. Stalin insisted that the investments were directed not only to Crimea, but also other regions of the USSR, destroyed by the war, and, in turn, suggested Kaganovich for the post of the leader of the Republic.” @http://fortruss.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/how-stalin-played-americans-with.html.
I know, it sound farfetched, but if the Kagans were related with Kaganovich? Just an idea.
The US doesn’t negotiate with adversaries it offers sticks or carrots and this meeting seems to have included some carrots after the whipping with sticks had their effects. Now we need to wait for Russia’s next move to see what if anything was agreed on.
Saker seems to be hitting the Hopium pipe rather hard lately but I can’t blame him for this because the alternative is grim.
Now, what Americans offer is typically sticks on your back and carrots up yours. But Russians know that.
most of the commenters , apart from the obvious trolls from american intelligence and their useful idiots, forgot that russia (or for that matter any country) is not that stupid in trusting anyone who bring smiles and gifts..
and not a single world leader (except western vassals) accept american diplomacy as more than just being a screw/gear in the whole machine..
it is the actions , not the words. , that matters..
my take on this, is the desperate move by obama administration to temporarily kowtow to russia and ensure their deal with iran go smooth..
everyone except the americans understood this overture by kerry…
just another sweet words from a proven liar john kerry..
google:
Westerners, “champions” of freedom of information, which means they are less informed: they are just propaganda channels failed empire’s interests.
On the other hand, we try to inform through alternative means before the shortwave radio and now web sites such as this, we must be as 1% of the population and, therefore, the trumpets the masses shall be the fight again having no idea what they are really doing.
It does not know how, but what needs to be done is to expand the truth and knowledge.
I don’t really know Spanish, but wouldn’t that be “Western media” in the first sentence, and “I do not know how…” in the last? Makes a little more sense. Also, a comma after “alternative means”, and that entire sentence perhaps more like this:
“On the other hand, for those of us who try to inform by alternative means – before it was shorthand radio and now websites such as this – we must be like the 1% in publicizing it for all, lest those trumpets (of the 1%) stampede the masses into further fighting without any idea of what they are really doing.”
I don’t have a dictionary to check on this, and apologies to Alonso for missing what he is saying, if I have done so. I just finished reading “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” in which the masses are incited to accomplish the very opposite of what they intend, producing horrific results, so that is why I felt compelled to untangle the translation – somebody proficient in the language could no doubt do better.
It’s just what Google did, to give people a rough idea if they want to go deeper into it. Try machine translating Russian, if you want “opposite” effects (double negatives abound) — but I’ve got the hang of that and can correct it, unless it’s very colloquial.
Indeed, your additions are very helpful, moderator. And certainly, for those with some inkling of the language in question, I hope that my attempt will encourage others to try to untangle the googled posts a bit, if they see what the author is getting at, (or think they do), as I have attempted here.
I felt Alfonso’s point was well taken.
Apologies – I should have said ‘Alonso’s point’.
It is interesting that Rose Gottenmoeller, Under Secretary of State, stated today that there would be no nuclear war. This was after the Sochi summit. I suspect that Putin presented the Americans with some compelling facts that startled them. He did this years ago to Condi Rice and Robert Gates. Putin told Kerry, et. al. something that alarmed them. Hopefully, they won’t zag.
thanks Saker, for this fabulous article…you’re the best !!!

Kerry unexpected visit was to discuss Iran, RF reaction to ZNATO forcing the aid ship to divert from it’s route to Yemen. If the ship is really intercepted, Iran is on record to saying that war will break out with Saudi and it’s allies. Dangerous days ahead.
Things look good for Russia indeed.

I would not trust anyone from Washington. The most perfidious nation in history.
Absolutely 100% agree with above… besides it was not just William Engdahl who wept at the Russian Red Square parade… I thank all the Gods I know and those I don’t know none forgotten for Russia and China… they are sane and they are for the people with the people….
Please note the “balance” in US foreign policy aggression.
Ukraine became “hot” after US involvement in Syria had cooled down and was a direct reaction to that, according to Stratfor’s Friedman.
Now we see US aggression in the Middle East hugely heating up: the US is involved in the Yemen war, there is a push to get NATO involved in the Libyan boat refugee problem and the US training of Syrian rebels seems to be getting on track – while noise about chemical arms in Syria seems to be part of a media push for even more involvement.
So a cooling down in Ukraine may just be a sign that Obama is busy in the Middle East and that he wants Russian support there. But I wonder what will happen in Ukraine when once again Obama’s involvement in Middle East produces only trouble.
USA is isolated, with its economy in tatters – and on top of that, there is a bottomless pit of moral decay – http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-13/us-recession-according-these-7-charts – they are simply falling apart.
As Putin said last summer when speaking at the Seliger youth forum, “I get the feeling that no matter what the Americans touch, they end up with Libya or Iraq.” Indeed, the Americans have been on a tear, destroying one country after another. Iraq has been dismembered, Libya is a no-go zone, Syria is a humanitarian disaster, Egypt is a military dictatorship executing a program of mass imprisonment. The latest fiasco is Yemen, where the pro-American government was recently overthrown, and the American nationals who found themselves trapped there had to wait for the Russians and the Chinese to extract them and send them home. But it was the previous American foreign policy fiasco, in the Ukraine, which prompted the Russians, along with the Chinese, to signal that the US has taken a step too far, and that all further steps will result in automatic escalation. –

All you nay-sayers, take a look at this: What Sanctions? The Russian Economy Is Growing Again.
From Newsweek, no less!
Isn’t this exactly what Saker, Mercouris, and Jim Rogers told us from the start? Might this have something to do with why John Skull-and-Bones just turned up in Sochi, hat in hand?
I am glad Kerry took Victoria Nuland with him. After her lying testimony to congress about the reign of terror in the Crimea since reunification, I hope she was roundly snubbed by the Russian delegation.
…….leopard incapable of changing its spots………
Dear The Saker,
A great article in Russia Insider today on McCain – you’re fired!:
http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/senator-john-mccain-thats-it-youre-fired/ri6879
The guy really needs to be kicked out over this scandal – it really is the last straw. Arizona kicking him out of the Senate would be a good start…..
Rgds,
Veritas
McCain kicked out of the Arizona Senate seat, no, he needs far more than that. He need full investigation for corruption and also crimes against humanity. Public trial and sentencing for the whole world to see.
Maybe even a lobotomy.
The guy is insane, a war monger and responsible for many deaths at the hands of Empire to people the world over.
The heavenly poiesis of this week in accordance with the mundane reflection:
the gods of truth (Neptune) and of modesty (Saturn) are challenging the traveler Mercury and the ejector Mars for finding a higher unity in contradictions.

Don’t place a lot of value on Kerry, but the State Department might, just might be sending a signal to the Baltics to drop the Crimea ‘demand’, one they have no right to make anyway:

“completely intoxicated with imperial hubris, crass ignorance and denial” describes it at best. This is the problem of the nonelected people who try to lead America from the background. Now its up to the US-administration to organise the retreat of a foolish dream. The speechless Nuland shows: they realised their failure. Reality hurts.
I hope USA wakes up from the Imperialist Nightmare “pipe dreaming”
Saker, Don’t believe anything that John Kerry has to say, It should be obvious he was only Nuland’s mouthpiece here. Sure the optimism is nice, but John Kerry would sell his mother to please the occultic order he is subordinate too. The behavior of Nuland is what you need to focus on in this visit.
Ukraine is backed by the New World Order Agenda that use their Global puppets to further their cause.
Adam, you need to read what Putin has stress in his speeches from the beginning of this crisis. He criticizes the US for its desire to dominate and control the World Order but he states clearly his and Russia’s desire to join the NWO as equal partners in the so called Multi-Polar World.
This is a crucial point many people seem to miss, if the US backs down and allows Russia and the BRICS a partnership position in the New Order we will see the final stage of Capitalism accelerate with their and our Oligarchs extracting the remaining profits from their religion of endless growth which means the accelerated destruction of the biosphere.
I wish that Putin or the BRICS were offering a true alternative to this madness but they are not, they just want their share and power in the NWO.
Thanks for reminding us of Putin’s constant multipolarity agenda. Your pessimism, however, is unwarranted. There has always been a place for the ‘moneybags’ of the world, in moderation. A careful reading of the Russia situation would demonstrate that while it is and will always be an imperfect relationship between the state and those we might call the banksters, Putin has set his own house in order before making the challenge extend worldwide. We in the US should be so lucky, and certainly people who live in glass houses ought to turn their swords into plowshares with alacrity ( to thoroughly mix my metaphors.)
Just because the leadership of the US of A has a sadistic intent to profit from nourishing the dogs of war is no reason to accuse other countries of a similar mad canine affection. Some people prefer people. Even some oligarchs do. And I can live with a few of the latter, provided that they have, really have, my interests at heart.
The Ukrainians can’t win. Their economy is a total disaster and the EU and the Americans can’t afford to subsidize them so totally as to fund the kind of military operations that have been going on for the past months. All Russia needs to do is run out the clock.
Still, I would strongly caution against any premature optimism. I consider a US “zag” a quasi-certitude. My hope is that the “zag” will be limited in magnitude and that when it happens, it will be more about face-saving exit for Obama than about a denial of reality.
Definitely it is the best conclusion from Saker. These gangsters are not going to give up till last minutes, even they will try to make a harm even in last seconds of their power. Absolute psychosis with the signature of schizophrenia is the diagnose of these sick minded people who are organizing these atrocities around the world.
Definitely there is the hope for the future even it is doesn’t look like right now. There are visible cracks everywhere, but they are the masters when the chaos will take over and we should never forget about this.
I am part of that ’empire’ you hope to defeat.
I looked long and hard to disprove that Amerika was supporting Nazi’s in the Ukraine. Indeed, they are, as reported by the Guardian and by USA Today and by so many youtube videos. It is beyond belief that Obama ( and Nuland and Mcain) and my country would support the card carrying Nazis that the Banderites are. I’m Tea party and he accuses ME of being a Nazi all the time. The fact that our country was ready to go to war with Russia for the incredibly corrupt country that is Ukraine is off the scale. And to take the side of the Nazi Banderites is beyond all belief.
This last August, Poroshenko was poised to defeat Novorussia, and had pushed them to the brink. Out of nowhere, this nobody, this Motorola, who was apparently working at a carwash and was run out of Rostov for getting drunk and stealing a car, who looks like he should be playing a banjo in the movie ‘ Deliverance’, counter attacks and surrounds the Azovs at Ilyviask and massacres them, helping save so many lives and the country itself. He then moved to the Donestk airport then on to Debaltseve to massacre more of Poroshenkos army. From what I can tell he was just a boot soldier in the Russian army for a time. Now he is a Lt Colonel in Novorussia. WHO THE F**K IS THIS GUY AND WHERE DID HE COME FROM!!!!!
There is a Clint Eastwood move in this guy, Motorola.
Rainman…..
Maybe the real question is, what kind of world where people like that have to work in a carwash. Or be “security” in a supermarket (Lt.Col “Givi” in his younger days).
They’ve put these two up as the public “face of the fighters” as they’re attractive, not shy to talk, and were in from the earliest days. There are hundreds more like them, and there were thousands in those battles. Some with a lot more military experience (some older ones served in the Soviet Army, eg tank commanders). Miners or workers in heavy industry where they learn to work co-operatively. A culture that highlights team work, among equals.
The early squads were built around a leader the others trusted, and they’d only keep recruits they got on with. They’d develop their own methods. When the republics grew to having armies, these units were the flying squads, who could be sent in to tricky situations to do what’s needed, with no further instructions.
Hollywood would twist their stories too much. And never make a movie where a Russian is the “goodie”.
Thank you, Rainman. I am just a regular Russian guy who happens to speak English because I’ve lived abroad for a while. What a relief it is to see people like you on this blog who make effort to understand the truth.
By now, I am sure you’ve all realized that we are not your enemy. Basically, this is how we operate: if you come to us as an equal (which you are), we will treat you with respect. If you come to us under some sort of illusion of grandeur (basically, being a fool), you will get Motorolas out of us as a useful lesson in humility.
This could be good news and I believe the Empire has tired of their slippery Ukrainian allies who have shown that they can’t get the job done with citizens who rightly don’t want the job. Next will have to be self determination votes by those oblasts that wish to take one. The Ukrainian nation will have to have its borders redrawn while the Ukrainian Nazi will have a lot to answer for. The foreign Ukrainian Nazi living in Canada and elsewhere had better keep their heads down also. A new nation(s) will also emerge there with all the hopes of her peoples to carry them forward.
I predicted some time ago that that Debaltseve would be the high water mark of the empire from which it would recede:
http://www.findinghomebookspace.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/novorussia-and-limits-of-empire.html
This will likely prove to be the case. Interesting that this diplomatic u-turn comes as US is preparing to station strategic bombers in Australia. My guess is that focus has shifted to the Asian pivot (which is where I live).
Erik
The big meeting in Sochi resulted in something, but nobody seems to know what exactly.
Kerry had apparently been trying to get that meeting scheduled for some time, specifically asking that Putin attend. From Russia’s point of view, the Ukraine situation is unfolding pretty much as expected whether the West acknowledged it or not. Putin doesn’t need another stupid lecture from the exceptional nation, or their acknowledgement.
Afterwards, Kerry signified that the US considers the Crimean issue settled, and publicly endorsed Minsk 2. The Russians said even less. Great stuff to be sure, but frankly, I’m underwhelmed. That takes a press conference, not a high level delegation requesting (and getting) Putin himself.
Is it only me who sees the visible result as a rather weak beer?
My big hunch is that the major subject was in fact Saudi Arabia/Yemen. Nasrallah made the point that in going into Yemen, the House of Saud was signing its death warrant. There’s recently been major shuffles in the regime, with the dead king’s family now out of line for the throne. The instability at the top was always underpinned by a very narrow power base, much of which is now estranged. One can already hear knives being sharpened in the background. Under that is a seething mass of poor and oppressed tribesman. It really is a social powder keg with a lit fuse, and the new regime’s move to a more “assertive” foreign policy is driven by inexperienced novices who’ve been elevated to positions well above their qualifications. This ain’t a recipe for success as Pakistan and Egypt have already seen.
In case of SA going chaotic, the US would have a hard time restoring stability unless Russia, and perhaps China, got involved. And not only for the evacuation of 100,000s of foreigners, but to put boots on the ground to protect the oil infrastructure from destruction. Losing the world’s #1-2 oil producer for a month is one thing, but losing it for even 6 mos would be a major disaster. The Petro-dollar and its derivatives would go BOOM, and so, at this stage, would everyone holding dollars.
The US would not be accepted alone, no matter how many EU poodles tagged along, and probably couldn’t bring enough manpower to bear regardless. Certainly, its Pivot to Asia would be in shambles and any hope of extricating themselves from the ME would be dashed. Another decade bogged down in the sands of the ME would finish the USM. A coalition that included even token Russian and Chinese participation would not face the same resistance, and the manpower available would multiply several times.
The question is “What would the Russians get in return?” Perhaps what we got from Kerry in Sochy is the answer.
Thank you, Erebus. Really good points. I think you are correct that the focus is Yemen/Saudi Arabia (my conscious reversal here due to my sense of the suffering people having priority).
I would say, however, that if indeed it is beer (well said) there is at least some kick in the beer – more like the stuff men drank back in WWII days in my home country, New Zealand, whilst we ladies and children cut it with lemonade and called it a shandy.
Perception is nine-tenths of reality.
I don’t think that the US have so many choises. They can’t afford to have both China and Russia as enemys in a long term. And what about the faith of Poroshenko? I think his days in power in Kiev is numbered and he must go, the same with Yats! They are clearly criminals and I think this event is a hint for Porky to leave Ukraine very soon.
VT recognizes the Donbass Republics – Happy Birthday

Good news! There are caveats: Liars cannot ever be trusted. Making serious agreements with Mafia is dancing with death.
Good news nevertheless is good. Now to start documenting the reasons why exceptionalism of America is a house of marked cards. Why those who live in the Western war empire, are doomed.
Using the plainest of words and concepts, as humanity faces self extinction otherwise. I think of Sergei Glaznev’s brilliant You Tube video on the purpose of the US takedown of Ukraine. Suzanne
Wow. Fantastic analysis. Amazing developments indeed. I’m sure a lot of people feel quite upbeat to hear this!
Hi there,
Has anyone considered the following…?
What if, a nationalist party was quickly rising to power in the Ukraine. Then, with Russia’s approval, the USA coordinates a coup and the rest of this is carefully scripted with the sole purpose of preventing a nationalist party taking real power in Ukraine?
I’m no geopolitical analyst.
Can anyone explain to me why this couldn’t be the case?
So they do a coup that puts the nationalists into power, in order to prevent nationalists getting into power by themselves? and they manage to choose a murderous and very expensive lot to give the coup gift to?
A bit far fetched, don’t you think? it’s been an unmitigated disaster for everyone including the USA the EU and Russia, not to mention the ~50,000 people killed and injured.
The USA has been known, without Russian approval, to do coups to forestall some government they don’t want. But that’s usually not on whether it is nationalist or not, but on whether or not will go along with USA plans for selling/giving away valuables to big money interests.
You’re probably right, Kat. And, I do agree with the viewpoint expressed at this and similar sites. My concern is how far/deep the deception goes, if you know what I mean. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out, in the end…
Cheers
Everything can be summarized in the first sentence of this article:
“Unless you read Russian or monitor the free blogosphere”
Well knowing this, Kerry can say what ever lies he want to Russia, since noone in the west will put light on it.
It would be very naive to think that usa has suddenly decided to not go on with their mission on ukraine.
VERY naive.
Offcourse there will be civil war in ukraine, and offcourse usa will meddøe even more!.
And Offcourse they will officially say peace is the way jaddajaddajadda bs, while at the same time training, funding and planning for warfare.
Usa knows war, they are completly clueless of how to make peace and harmony.
Putin is committed to the development of a Russian middle-class: he means a standard of living that offers parity +quality to the vast majority. It is projected to comprise 80%+ of the Russian population by 2020.
That remainder will probably include wealthy oligarchs, not homeless and disenfranchised. But they will not be allowed to self-enrich in ways that are socially/economically harmful.
That’s my take.
I wouldn’t get all happy about what Kerry says. I think too many people are grasping at straws for hope for peace. Global research reported that the Donbass military intel says that the Ukies are massing for another major offensive with 2,000 tons of munitions stored up behind the front. The US needs this war.. badly. I still do not trust Putin. What is going on in the world is just like Orwell stated in 1984, with the regional blocs fighting constant small wars, with no real front lines, with the blocs changing sides to suit their needs. Everyone involved is corrupt, meaning every major nation in the West and the BRICS, SCO, etc is just another oligarchy. India can screw over Russian and China in an instant, or China could bail out. I don’t think that will happen, for a long time anyway, but I have grave doubts over Ukraine.
We will have to wait and see if Putin throws Iran and Syria under the bus.
Timeo Danaos et donna frrentes.
I know Debka should be taken with a cup of salt, but this article gives a plausible second view of what happened at Sochi.
On Sunday, an American special ops group were air-dropped into an ISIS compound in Syria, killing 32 including 5 of ISIS’ top leaders, and made off with a substantial haul of intelligence materials. The raiders didn’t suffer any losses.
Debka makes the point that there’s little chance that they could have made it past the “bristling” Syrian and Russian air defenses in the area unscathed without a stand down order, and would further have required “hundreds of fighting men” for support on the ground around the compound.
Debka postulates that the stand down and ground support were arranged in Sochi.
http://www.debka.com/article/24607/ (h/t to james at the Kremlin Stooge)
If(!) the air defense held fire and the Syrians provided ground support, we may be looking at the early tremors of coming tectonic shifts in the US’ ME policy.
