As foreign leaders have begun to arrive in Sochi, something quite unique happened at the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping. First, he was greeted by President Putin, like all the other heads of state, but then the two men left of a special communications room to speak with the senior commanders of the Russian and Chinese navies. The amazing thing was that this was a joint videoconference which saw the Russian and Chinese naval commanders reporting to their respective Presidents while both sides stood literally shoulder to shoulder. See for yourself a photo of this event from the naval side:
I personally find this both quite amazing and very telling: at a time when the USA is constantly provoking and bullying China (over territorial waters) and Russia (over the Ukraine), and at a time when senior US academics are seriously suggesting that a war with Russia might happen, Russia and China are showing signs of not only political, but also operational collaboration.
I think that the message is clear. The only question is: is anybody in Washington paying any attention?

This is huge. Russia and China must unite or the “West” will split them apart, encircle them and render them useless while the planet is raped.
Hi Saker,
You are posting so frequently now that it is hard to keep the comments on topic (no complaints here!).
Therefore, might I go back to a couple of earlier posts to pose a question of you?
I haven’t re-listened to it to check, but in your ‘A new Cold War ?’post showing the RT video, I recollect the US guest, Cohen, talking eminent sense about Ukraine but also slipping in the comment that US “diplomacy” (ie aggression) should be concentrated in the Middle East. Presumably said as someone who supports the Israeli view.
Then, in an enlightened comment from K in your ‘Possible phone intercept …’ post we were informed that the intercept was likely Israeli. For me this is now confirmed by the fact that it is being splashed all over the MSM and being blamed on Putin as a bonus. Who else has the power to organise this ? Putin ? Haha.
So my question to you. Do you think that these events indicate a possible split between the Neocons/Israel and elements of the military/NATO? If so, what are the implications?
Thanks,
Gordon.
@Gordon: Do you think that these events indicate a possible split between the Neocons/Israel and elements of the military/NATO? If so, what are the implications?
First, I am not sure that Cohen defends the “Israeli view” (assuming there is such a view to begin with). Regardless of his last name, I don’t remember Cohen ever being pro-Israeli, but maybe I am wrong. Honestly, I don’t know.
The phone intercept could be Israeli, of course. But they are mostly busy elsewhere. My personal list of suspects goes like this: GRU, SVR, FSB and SBU (in this order). I don’t see an Israeli ‘angle’ in this latest development. HOWEVER,
There are a lot of OTHER reasons to suspect that there are some very serious tensions between the White House and Israel. There is no doubt in my mind that the folks who put Obama into the White House engaged in a deliberate purge of Ziocons out of the Executive Branch. Alas, Congress and the US corporate media is still completely in their control. It is an ongoing battle which is far from over. And if rabid lunatic Hillary finally makes President then things will turn very ugly very fast.
Again, I don’t see an Israeli stance, role or factor in the Ukrainian mess right now, but maybe I am missing something.
Kind regards and cheers,
The Saker
