Although its always a pleasure to listen to (and look at) Madame Zakharova, I’m afraid she’s wasting her breath. Two words would have suffices, the second of which is off.

There is a larger audience than the regime at palace of Mar-a-Lago. For those who’ve been watching, the steady and sensible diplomacy of the Russia Federation has been slowly gaining respect and friends over the last decade.

The overall trajectory of Central and South America over the last century of so has been one of breaking free of the Dang Yankees. That is likely to continue. Under Obama, the Yankees began a counter-attack to roll back the wave of democracy and freedom that had taken hold in several countries. This has had some success. But it is worth noting that it is in the opposite direction of the trend of the last century. Thus, it is likely a temporary success. That Russia and China have offered steady support will be noticed and remembered by all except those minions who travel to Mar-a-Lago to lick Yankee boots. Those minions can apply to the Great Satan for asylum once they have to flee in their helicopters.

You are right. She is wasting her breath. The US Empire has entered a terminal stage, it’s cracking up and now anything goes. International law will be ignored. Washington will do everything in it’s power to maintain it’s empire. It will fail. No empire has survived.

    • Snow Leopard on March 30, 2019  ·  at 5:24 pm EST/EDT

Cdvision I certainly relate to your point of view here. You are right regarding many people in the corrupt West.

However I am sure she speaks to a far wider audience than us Westerners are permitted to be familiar with. In that her precise diction and clear exposition promises to have a far reaching educational impact in a great variety of global venues. Her civility of intelligent exposition also stands as a shining beacon to the world of the depths of law respecting integrity that can be found in modern Russia. It makes a rich civilizational contrast to that which we see rotting before our eyes. I bet Syrian schoolchildren are lapping her up.

        Snow Leopard:

You are,of course, correct. I didn’t mean for one moment that Madame Zakharova would use such undiplomatic or crude wording. And, of course, she is addressing the world not the US, which would be a waste of breath. I was merely putting myself in her position, and wishing I could take off my shoe.

A little addition. According to Boston University economics professor Laurence Kotlikoff, the U.S. is currently facing 200 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities, and when you add that number to the 22 trillion dollar debt, you get a grand total of 222 trillion dollars. Now we have the answer why the US is after Venezuela’s oil and gold.

      • cdvision on March 30, 2019  ·  at 7:21 pm EST/EDT

        B.F.

Well the US will get neither the oil nor gold, but that wouldn’t be enough anyway. China could bring the house of cards down tomorrow if it wished by liquidating its 1T of US treasuries. This would crash the market and US debt (well the US actually) would be past history. For China loosing 1T would be a pain, but for the US it would be terminal. At the moment it looks like China’s policy is a managed decline of the US, but it could change.

Russia will stop the Hegemon’s ambitions in Venezuela – and I expect this is fully coordinated with China, who have interests in Venezuela also.

      • Mulga Mumblebrain on March 30, 2019  ·  at 10:32 pm EST/EDT

I have been convinced for years that the USA will simply repudiate its debts at some time, and set the Pentagon on anyone who dares object. Interest rates must remain at zero, or negative (ten trillion in various bonds worldwide are already negative)or the whole debt bubble will detonate. As Max Keiser says, ‘You can’t taper a Ponzi scheme’. And, whatever they do, the parasites will make sure that the proles pay the price and the various ‘Gods Upon the Earth’ pocket the lolly.

    • The Saker on March 30, 2019  ·  at 8:26 pm EST/EDT

Remember something VERY important here: yes, Zakharova does address the West, but first and foremost, she is listened to in Russia, so her appearances also EXPLAIN to the Russian people why and how their government is acting.
Thus, not a single word she said was wasted, at least in Russia.
And, in the West, there is… …. US!!! :-)
      don’t forget, we also exist!
      cheers

I sent a printed copy of Maria’s remarks to my friends. I noted how classy and professional and intelligent are Maria and Lavrov. And then to consider the thugs representing the USA -Bolton, Pompeo, Abrams and the head thug Trump. The world, including many in USA, can not but notice.

Some Russian banks are saying the same two words!
Methinks Uncle Sam is a very sick man…he just doesn’t know it yet.

The fact that CIPS is being increasingly embraced is simply just another symptom resulting from the Hegemon’s disease. In the case of Russia, perhaps the old saying ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ applies to this scenario.
The US sanctions worked a treat…NOT!
So too Obomber kicking Russia out of SWIFT…NOT!

The Donald and his goons swagger around the world threatening everyone and sundry, all the while farcically oblivious to the fact that the US is diplomatically almost bankrupt and is in no position whatsoever to act like this. Incidentally, the country is also insolvent financially, and this too is largely as a result of this same idiotic interventionist behavior.

There is another symptom in this mix too… braggarts and warmongers like Trump, Pompeo, and Bolton holding high office…compare them to the likes of Zhakarova and Lavrov, as illustrated so clearly in this current article, and the contrast could hardly be more conspicuous.

      Cheers from the south seas

Yep…pretty much the same playbook they used when they tried to ‘save’ Libya…you know the one, the country in North Africa that was then one of the two most successful on the continent. And of course, the weasel Rubio had to put his spoke in too, and threaten Maduro with the same torturous death as Gaddafi [sodomy with a bayonet]… yes, very classy diplomacy…he actually fits in rather well with the likes of Bolton and Pompeo…definite cabinet material here!

What these ignorant thugs don’t realize is that Russia will no longer allow this disgraceful behavior and that a growing percentage of Western Mainstreet will no longer stand by silently either. Gaddafi had no one to save him… Maduro does. What we are witnessing in Syria and Venezuela is a completely new paradigm as to how countries will conduct themselves on the world stage.

The Hegemon’s days of rampaging around the world unchallenged are over. They have been warned. They don’t appear to be listening yet…the first act in this new paradigm was Syria…the second act is Venezuela…how many of these does it take…yes, yes I know they are slow learners!

In other words the US is that nation most in need of a R2P rescue operation – someone has to build a US Government in exile to which all can flock who want their country back….., then the R2P can start rolling.

      • Mulga Mumblebrain on March 31, 2019  ·  at 5:44 pm EST/EDT

The idea of a US Government in exile, dedicated to liberating the American people from the rule of the kakistocratic oligarchy and its Zionazi allies, and to saving the USA and humanity from the ecological Holocaust, is excellent. It would be a nice irony and Nemesis, too, given the USA’s foul record of providing a refuge for the filthy detritus of numerous other states eg Ukraine, Croatia, Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam etc, after their overthrow by the people of those countries, and then aiding and abetting these scum in their plots to return to power and, as is best illustrated in Ukraine, re-instate the vilest semi and sub-fascist tyranny. Of course a US Government in Exile must offer the American people the exact opposite of Poroshenko or Tudjman or Izetbegovic or Walesa, or Havel style reaction and parasite class vengeance. A dose of retribution and restitution ie justice, inflicted on the parasites, say by wealth confiscation (the return of the proceeds of crime to the victims)and then enforced labour at some socially useful work, seems highly estimable to me. As for the seat of this Government, having rejected Beijing or Moscow as too remote, I rather think that Havana fits the bill nicely.

    Russia’s position is very clear:

Venezuela is sovereign, so is Russia. The US is an outlaw.

It is now quite evident that Russia will take measures to assure Venezuela is not subjected to a violent overthrow.

The ersatz stooge-President is totally rejected by Moscow. Maudro has legitimacy.

  9. S-400 on March 30, 2019  ·  at 9:56 pm EST/EDT

The Munroe Doctrine is an anachronism that has now collided with the reality of a Russia that is sick and tired of US exceptionalism.

Now dont get me wrong, Russia is not going to start a war with the US over Venezuela, thats not Putin’s intent.

What Russia will do however, is to not stand idly by while the US rips up the rule book of international law and sow chaos and death without being challenged.

Russia is saying that the days of US unilateralism and impunity is over.

From hencefort, the US will have an increasingly assertive Russia -followed closely by China – to contend with.

The fact that the US can no longer readily impose its imperial will in its own “backyard” is another clear indication that the American Empire’s inevitable end draws nigh.

Trump is speeding up the process however, with his rashness and impetuosity….

    Selah

    • James on March 31, 2019  ·  at 12:44 pm EST/EDT

Fascinating how, of course, the Monroe Doctrine is now used exactly the opposite of the way it began. It began as one nation, which had recently won its independence from the European powers, saying bravely that it would help to defend its neighbors against those powers. The European kings were using their bankers to assert dominance over their former colonies in the Western Hemisphere, and the US stood up and said “No.”.

Now of course the Monroe Doctrine is used as the Americans and their bankers try to assert dominance over the other countries in the hemisphere, with an assertion that no one in the world can dare to come and help them.

      • Mulga Mumblebrain on March 31, 2019  ·  at 5:48 pm EST/EDT

The USA has been racist, imperialist and expansionist from the start. The Monror Doctrine was to assert the USA’s elites’ sole rights to exploit the untermenschen and natural resources of the hemisphere. And since 1947, and increasingly since the spectre of communism disappeared in 1989, it has been applied globally by Thanatopolis DC.

  11. Brad on March 30, 2019  ·  at 10:34 pm EST/EDT

Imperial asshats Trump, Pence, Pompeo are asked by Maria Zakharova ‘on what legal grounds were those statements made?’ referring to their contrived, nakedly aggressive framing and absolutely counter-factual description of the reality of Venezuela, its political conditions and its present relations with Russia.

What the United States military regime is doing might be obvious by now – it is creating realities and acting upon its creations largely with the belief (not unfounded) that it can do what it pleases with little by way of consequences. It can create an entirely fictional characterization of Venezuela and its political conditions, the US corporatist media will amplify this fiction and the gullible (in numbers big enough to matter) public will accept this fictional reality as really real.

    Maria Zakharova continues:

“I’d like to formulate this question in this precise way. Variant A: on the basis of international law. Variant B: on the basis of the internal American laws. Variant C: on the basis of some other legal acts unknown to anyone. Frankly speaking this isn’t a rhetorical question. We still want to get an answer to it. I’ll reiterate myself. On what legal ground were such statements made?

Next, I’ll stress it once again that Russian specialists arrived in Venezuela on the basis of the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on military-technical cooperation. Nobody cancelled this agreement. Russia didn’t violate anything, either international agreements or the internal laws of Venezuela. Russia isn’t changing the balance of power in the region. Russia isn’t threatening anyone unlike the people in Washington whose statements I’ve just quoted.”

So here Zakharova is offering reasonable, simple, law and agreements based responses to the complete and total fabrications of a bunch of lying pieces of shit. Do you think that’s gonna work? I can understand that Russia is standing up for important notions like sovereignty, laws and agreements and are acting (quite rightly) AS IF the United States position on Venezuela is irrelevant – because it is irrelevant – irrelevant from the point of view of reality. Nonetheless the United States will continue to excerpt its fabrication – as if it is real – working tirelessly to make this counter-factual into a real change of political conditions in Venezuela. Do you understand?

The question arrives at some point as to how long a world can allow (can they stop it?) a belligerent nation to do what the f it pleases without painful repercussions. At some point reality itself will shift toward dystopia unless the real – in the form of laws and agreements – are enforced and the fantasies concocted by ignorant militant belligerents are smacked down with extreme prejudice.

Bravo, Proftel! The only way that Latin America will ever be rid of the US incubus is by defeating it in its preferred field-violence. This will, hopefully, cause the USA to implode, splinter into fragments, and become (wishful thinking here)a constellation of friendly states prepared to live in harmony and co-operation with its southern neighbours. The alternative is mutual assured devastation.

      • subhuti37 on March 31, 2019  ·  at 6:51 am EST/EDT

The US is an artificial construction. After it forced the UK out, it was a confederation of independent states. The USA was created to protect slavery in the South, and allow the new country to project power as a whole. That is why the states were induced to give up their own sovereignty.

The cultural and political divisions within the USA reached the boiling point in 1860 and that was the Civil War (as if wars are ‘civil’.) While the North overwhelmed the South militarily, the South never really surrendered and the social, cultural and political splits are still there. So it is unlikely that San Francisco and Dallas, Texas or Birmingham Alabama would live together harmoniously. It’s a forced arranged marriage.

Should the USA receive its comeuppance after 250 years of nearly constant war, and as was predicted by the Rand Corporation, pick a fight with Russia and/or China, it would ‘get its ass handed to it’ and the outcome of that is entirely unpredictable. A total breakup is not out of the question.

Russia itself has seen its borders change dramatically through the centuries due to internal and external stresses. Whatever happens to the US in the event of either military defeat or economic implosion is impossible to predict.

Since Temer and Bolsonaro Brazil’s profitable businesses were already privatized or on its way to be privatized like Embraer and Petróleo Brasileiro and possibly many others. This is called “theft in daylight”. Sad that the Brazilians did not go on the streets like the Venezuelans or like the Yellow Vests in France. Seems to me that there is not much unity in Brazil among the people. The only event you get people on the street is the Brazilian Carnaval and Soccer games it seems. On the positive side I’ve heard that some Brazilian military officers are indeed unhappy with this clown called Bolsonaro. Good luck.

US is manufacturing a crisis in Venezuela so that there is chaos and ‘needed’ intervention

These people surrounding president Trump—John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, Marco Rubio, Elliott Abrams —every single day on Twitter, these guys are tweeting about Venezuela. I don’t know exactly what Russia is doing in Venezuela, but I suspect that Russia is primarily protecting the investments that they have in Venezuela and nothing else. I also suspect that Russian present in Venezuela is agreed upon with the US, possibly by some back-door deal regarding Golan Heights in Syria and/or Crimea’s recognition. There are articles written by Thierry Meyssan, A. Korybko and others alluding to this eventuality. Russia is not in excellent terms with the Syrians, Iranians and the Turks in the region. Also Russian forces serve as a buffer zone in between Syria proper and the Golan Heights as we speak. Iran,Turkey and Syria have all openly protested Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, while Russia did not make too much of a fuss really. Even it was Syria who brought it up to the UNSC. What is going on in Venezuela is strongly correlated with what is going on in Venezuela. We can not think of one world affair separate from another due to the fact that the ultimate goal is a total world domination by the hegemon. I would also recommend the following recent article by Yossef Bodansky who writes and works for Defense and Foreign Affairs, based in Washington. This is a neocon think tank but gives a very useful insight into the mindset of Washington policy makers. In this article, the author (not surprisingly) diminishes the role that Israel is playing in the middle eastern politics, while talking about a new coalition in between Iran, Turkey, Qatar, Syria and Iraq (also Jordan, which I am not so sure). The latter point I believe is correct as other independent sources were talking about this coalition as well. What is also important (in the article) is that the author claims that Russia is not part of this coalition and on contrary against it. This claim places Russia side by side with Saudi Arabia and most importantly Israel. Also the article highlights the huge mistrust in between the regional powers and Russia. I cannot judge at this moment if this article is simply a disinformation (which is not uncommon among US based think-tanks), however Putin’s close relationship with Israel, Netanyahu’s (seemingly unshakable) relationship with Russian leaders, Russian indifference of Syrian airspace violations by Israel etc. makes me incline that this could be indeed the truth.

Word salad highly reminiscent of those concocted by twilight two years ago and, most notably, a standing army of anonymice. Sorry — there just is no way for you to worm out of this: Putin and Russia steer up more trouble to Western imperialism in half an hour’s time than what the entire Western Left would have accomplished in a couple of centuries. This has not been lost on the Haitians, the Venezuelans, the Arab and Muslim world, etc.

Matt’s contributions always get my nostrils twitching at the scent of subtle hasbara, a more delicious and intoxicating type of deception because more seemingly considered, and the antithesis of the usual hysterical and histrionic disinfo usually regurgitated. Of course this olfactory discrimination may be a welcome sign that dementia is not yet close at hand, or some sort of hallucination, and Matthiew is correct. I very much doubt the latter, however.

Twenty percent of the squatters stealing Palestinian land are Russian. Kinda hard for Russia to support Palestine while the US taxpayer foots the bill for the security of all squatters in Palestine, regardless of which country the hail from.

Sorry state of the world when one must be ‘qute’ to read the news. Piousness be damned.

Judge people by their actions……………not their words? She failed to point out that the people of Gaza live under ‘inhumane conditions’ not the people of Venuzuela……………..but she can’t say that becasuse 20% of Palestinain oppressors are…………….can’t say that, might hurt someones feelings, a side effect of the truth.

The first news about breaking 9/11 was voluminous, detailed, stunned and factually correct. Russian news. Since US allowed 9/11 in order to rid it of the US Constitution Hillary shouted Russia was at fault for everything.

You now see what ridding itself of all law does to a country.

When it comes to Central and South America, the US treatment of them is nothing short of dictatorial. They are not considered sovereign, unless its leaders are pro-US. And it considers those who do not agree with US policies, regardless of ideology, as a threat to “democracy.” And will use all means, overt or covert, to destroy them. Countries south of the US are vassal states or, more closely, territories, which they feel they can influence at anytime. And sadly those countries are filled with corrupt individuals who would sell their own countrymen down the river to enrich themselves.

I have become a fan of this lady. And she is always in her grace as such.

I would suggest ( I know, I know unsolicited advice is a spiritual no-no ) that she take professional lessons from an opera coach or someone who can help her translate her restricted sigh breath ( yes. I understand this construction of the heart when speaking of heavy affairs) . It is almost as if she is almost on the verge of a sigh. Ok maybe this is ok and forms an awesome part of her charisma and so is best left intampeted with.

Or maybe I just want to hear her sing?

Lady Liberty is facing the end-game that comes to all Imperialistic empires as shown by history. Retain your empire and lose your democracy, or retain your democracy and lose your empire. Although somehow I think the PTB will rather keep their empire, or try too at least. The power, greed and hegemon that comes with chasing and maintaining thr Greenback at all costs while blinkered to reality around them will continue unabated until it’s too late to do anything else.

      Excellent article.

“I want to dedicate this victory to Nicolas Maduro and to all Venezuelans who are suffering,” Maradona said, speaking to reporters after Sunday’s game, in which the Dorados trounced Tampico Madero 3-2.

“The sheriffs of the world, who are those Yankees? Just because they have the biggest bombs in the world they think they are so much more advanced than us. No, they are not,” Maradona stressed.

“We don’t buy that ‘chirolita’ they have as president,” the star added, referring to a famous 1970s Argentinian ventriloquist puppet bearing a strong resemblance to the appearance and mannerisms of US President Donald Trump.”

“We don’t buy that ‘chirolita’ they have as president,” IE: a ventriloquist puppet. That’s trump exactly, netanyahoo’s chirolita.

“… Two words would have sufficed, the second of which is off. …”

    True. Accurately summarised.

Those two words are the only ones that her western “partners” would have understood.

And if her speech was “meant for domestic consumption”: those two words are the only ones that the Russian people would have approved.

    Thank you.
