It has now been confirmed that Aleksandr Zakharchenko has been murdered today. You can read some of the details in this RT article here: https://www.rt.com/news/437357-head-donbass-republic-killed/
This murder really breaks my heart, but also worries and sickens me. Just like the murders of Morotola or Givi, this murder proves that there is a major, massive, problem with the DNR/LNR security services. Whether this is pure incompetence or treason I don’t know, but what is sure is that while murders of charismatic leaders happen in all conflicts this is the exception, not the rule (how many leaders were killed during, say, the Bosnian civil war?). It *is* possible to protect commanders and officials (there are special forces and services which can do that very well). When it is the rule, then most certainly something is very wrong.
Two years ago I wrote an article entitled “The Murder of Motorola – questions which must be answered” for which I was hysterically criticized by some ignorant amateurs, but the questions which I asked then remain unanswered today. Frankly, I very much doubt that they will be answered this time around either.
In my 2016 I asked the question cui bono in reference to the murders of so many DNR/LNR leaders.
Now I ask the same cui bono about the systematic denial that there is a major problem with the DNR/LRN security services.
Two years after the murder of Motorola the Novorussians have clearly not solved their security problem. This is why I can only offer the same conclusion as I did two years ago:
Ideally, the Russians should send some smart and ruthless patriot, like General Shamanov, to go to Lugansk and Donesk and read the locals the riot act (Russians generals are very good at that kind of stuff) and if they offer any resistance, just toss them out of their office (Russian generals are also good at that kind of stuff).
By now pretty much all the key Novorussian leaders and heroes have been murdered and it is too late to do anything about this. But somebody will have to take their place and it is them that the Russians need to protect now.
Living in deep denial, cheerleading and flag waving are all very good, but not when people get murdered as a result.

Or is it same move than in Vietnam when early stage National Liberation Front was replaced by NVA (Hanoi regular army) after Tet-offensive?
No, I see no rationale under which this would be the case
The Saker
The Viet Cong were decimated in the aftermath of their attack. They lost much manpower and structure.
The plan of the North was simply unfolded thereafter, a normal conclusion to an anti-colonialist war. The invader and occupier faced a unified population. The US never had a chance, as so to the French before them.
There is no similarity in Donbass.
Russia need only send 4-5000 North Wind vacationers to sway the war.
And after Syrian war experience, thousands of vets will be lining up to enter Donbass as part of that North Wind.
Those vets are mainly some russian pilots. There wont be any Syrian footsoldier going to fight a groundwar in The Ukraine.
I borrow this from MOA posted by RR.:
This video (click CC for English Subtitles) is in tribute to Alexander Zakharchenko.
He fought in all the big battles, wounded three times, the last a bad wound to his foot that took years since to walk normal (Debaltsevo battle).
He was a good man. He delivered Ukie sons back to their mothers.
Russia is blessed with great heroes who fight to the death. He was unafraid of death. He loved Donbass and Russia.
He appears in the video at 0:49. I believe this was very early in the fight for the airport battle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I0Bgb-vAAY
The reward for the hit on AZ was said to be $5million. Plenty of incentives. But this bombing, like the bombing of Motorola, was very professional. Very Mossad like. Planned ahead. Probably rehearsed and awaited his presence. They were not amateurs. Arrested. We’ll see how the facts roll out.
A terrible loss and shocking to all who support Donbass against the ethnic cleansing and nazis of Kiev.
amen
Basurin: “The US was directly involved in it,” https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808311067648788-us-assassinations-dpr/
As a matter of cause and effect, certainly Basurin’s correct–Had the coup never occurred, many thousands of people would still be alive. All that blood’s on Obama and Clinton’s hands as well as other American fascists.
You might be on to something with your reference to Mossad, Larchmonter, because Kiev denies it was them. I don’t necessarily believe them but I do think that they wouldn’t miss a chance to gloat.
The fact that the situation is so tense in Syria, it could be a message…
This is devastating news. A new leader must step in fast to stabilise the situation.
Serbian girl
Dimitry Trapeznikov has replaced Aleksandr Zakharchenko. Life goes on, and so do the two republics.
“He was a good man. He delivered Ukie sons back to their mothers.”
How is this good when it just gives them more confidence and daring that they can attack and kill people in Novorussia, but get away with it easily and not have to face any consequences.
They can then come back to attack again, but with extra info from behind enemy lines.
When you are kind to the cruel you are being cruel to the kind.
It is not a wise tactic to just send them back. They should be imprisoned for the duration of the fighting or at least a very long time and given only the very basics for sustenance.
We’re talking kids, here. Teen-agers.
The video is on YouTube.
There is also a video of a PoW called Dima who looks about 15 and an interview with his mother, in which Zakharchenko advises his mother to put him in a boarding school in another country for the duration.
“He was a good man. He delivered Ukie sons back to their mothers.”
I remember that event. They had captured a number of young conscripts in a big battle, and he offered to release them, but only if their mothers came to pick them up. They were just boys, really, pressed into service by one of the nazi militias. He wanted to scold the mothers for letting their boys commit these crimes against their neighbors.
He did it in a very Christian spirit of forgiveness.
Yes I agree. The Ukies forced young boys conscripts to serve as cannon fodder. He considered them to be victims also.
Very tragic, indeed… Who did it? Will we ever know?

It is not difficult to guess who did it. Kiev, advised by NATO. The are hoping to subvert the two republics, hoping such actions will demoralize them. It will not happen.
Kiev could have done it on their own. As Kiev is F-UK-US-NATO’s responsibility, then it is on their heads. But, it is quite possible that Kiev could do this without any direct assistence. I’ve never heard of a fascist regime that is short on willing assasins.
To be honest, it may have been an action at an even lower level than the Kiev government. I’m not saying the Kiev government would be upset that it happened, but its rather possible that a group within Ukraine did this without even the knowledge or approval of higher levels in Kiev. Tight command and control has never really been common in Ukraine of late.
To spin a plausible yarn, its possible that the leader of an intelligence group or a faction could be frustrated that Kiev won’t openly attack the Donbas, so they did this on their own to try to spark the conflict they desire. That’s just one possibility, there are many others at this stage.
A traitor to lure the leader out to the cafe, planting a bomb with a cell-phone trigger set inside the doorway, and an observer to set off the cell-phone at the right moment ….. all of that could be the work of a rather small group of people. I’d guess there are enough nasty people in Ukraine to pull that off without calling in the Americans.
Remember, its common within the empire that the people in the puppet states really don’t like the Americans, and there is a lot of grumbling about American arrogance from the puppets. Many a puppet would prefer not to have Americans around if they can avoid it. The puppets within the empire speak rather fouly about the Americans when the Americans aren’t in the room to hear it. I can easily see a puppet saying “We aren’t calling the damn Americans. We can do this without those bleeps.”
I’m sure that if the SBU hasn’t infiltrated all those groups, the CIA on the floor above them in the SBU HQ has done.
Lack of command and control is a defense at the Hague. It’s prudent to fake them.
If they survive, I’m sure the lot that’s in power now will eventually be saying it was all Right Sector, they had no part in the war.
Or ” kill the shepherd and the sheeple will run away ” . Didn’t happened the same with Jesus ? the same old pattern, the same old…
Or, kill the sheppard, and a big angry sheep dog appears.
Now the fascists are in trouble. Kadyrov is coming!
http://tass.com/world/1019539
Someone needs to make a first-person shooter game – in the style of Duke Nukem, but without the stupid US-isms and crude sleaze – where the player is Kadyrov, going to various places like Syria, Novorossiya, etc to sort out the bad guys! I would love a game like that. There is already a real-time strategy game of the Syrian war, which is pretty good – but no FPS for the resistance axis. Kadyrov is such a classic character he would be perfect…
I am schocked by the murder of this humble but intelligent and charismatic man. Let us hope that the two republics don’t collapse.
I don’t think that they will.
But we are certainly entering some troubled times.
The Saker
The Republiks will not fall. If nothing else, and there is a lot ‘else’, redundancy in command is taught day and night in the training sessions. There will never be another Zhakharchenko, another Givi, another Motorola, but always someone steps up to fill their boots. Never fear, DNR and LNR will live on.
Juan
Thank you Juan.
You are right there will never be another Zhakharchenko, Givi or Motorola – may they all rest in peace. Yes they have already started to fill in his role and closed all there borders. Sadly he was not the only casualty of this terrorist/AZ/Kiev attacK;
https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808311067652471-Eleven-People-Killed-Zakharchenko-Assassination-Explosion/
There have been 11 casualties – RIP to all of them and my condolences to their families too.
Often the successor is much more determined than their fallen predecessor, like the mythical hydra which sprouts two heads when one is severed (e.g. Al-Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah). I pray that this is the case in Novorussia.
Unfortunately, Saker is right about their security. Although complete protection is impossible, almost all threats can be countered by skilled staff and good planning and procedures. If there is more than one successful assassination then the Novorussian security staff are not fit for purpose.
If the killing of Novorussian commanders goes on unimpeded – as it has in the past years – there will be no one left to lead the two republics. When that happens, Donetsk and Lugansk may come under Ukrainian administration by default.
Suddenly, the relentless attacks by the Ukraine begin to look like a sensible plan. Who would have thought?
I don’t see this happening. The DNR/LNR are not projects of one (or a few) men and they will not disappear because of these murders. These are *people’s* republics who represent the aspirations of the people of Novorussia. The latter will never be ruled by Urkonazis no matter what. Neither will Russia ever allow the Ukronazis to overrun it.
Novorussia/LNR/DNR will eventually become independent and will then join Russia. Nothing can stop that from happening.
But the price to pay for this struggle might be tragic indeed, and it has been so already (think of all the people who lost their lives resisting the Ukronazis!).
I am also sad, devastated really, and angry too. But let’s not over-react or lose courage.
We need to win this one and we will!
The Saker
Novorossiya is and will always be. The loss of warriors, comrades and commandeers happens, it’s part of the war and war life. But. Life goes on, the fight goes on in spite of the loss of our friends, comrades and loved ones. Such is life, but never falter, never lose faith.
I remember that first summer and early winter when so many wounded were coming to our city and region, both for treatment and convalescence. Not a soldier lamented his wounds, not a soldier lamented his choice to fight the orcs, every single one of them returned to duty, those fully recovered joining their units in the line, those crippled returned to serve in the support echelons.
I remember that first summer and early winter when we were digging out those women and children who could not leave when Strelkov retreated on 05 July 2014. We succored each and every one of them we managed to get out, and to this day all are doing well. Two families have lost their husbands and fathers, three families have had their husbands and fathers come home wounded, convalesce and return to the fight. To this day, we have never heard one word of regret from any of them for the choice these families made, neither those who lost a husband and father nor those who saw their husband and father come home wounded nor those who’s husbands and fathers return to them on leave.
I remember that first summer and early winter when we were hunting orphans of the fighting. The orphans we got to safety, or managed to find after the Grad went through the kitchen window of their parent’s flat in Gorlovka two days after the two girls were sent to safe haven, are doing well. Three, having reached their majority, are now serving in Novorossiya. The others, we have them so deep in safe haven that no matter what happens, they will survive and prosper.
With this kind of dedication and patriotism for Novorossiya and Russia, you can rest assured, Novorossiya will not fall. Ever.

You have in a beautiful way described the Russian soul. The dedication and sacrifice which the Russians in the Donbass showed cannot easily be found in the West, where materialism comes first. The assassination of Zakharchenko was meant to destabilize the Donbass. It will not happen. Behind the assassination you can clearly ascertain the NATO mentality. They miscalculated. They will achieve nothing.
I still think Patton had it right when it came to war.
“No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.”
I respect the tributes to this man I never had the fortune to know. But I do wish he’d had better security and hadn’t died for his country.
It was not Patton’s security. He was taken out because he was not playing the game of kick, trample and destroy Germany now that She is down.
His was not the Khazarian Mafia blood. His was total dedication to war with his own vision of courage, personal leadership, prayer and initiative. Good old, old school stuff. Classical education thinking.
He started to learn and then reveal the underlying truth about the war.
“The DNR/LNR are not projects of one (or a few) men and they will not disappear because of these murders.”
The leaders need to be more secretive – especially to those on the outside. Information about their family, close friends, habits, home, etc. needs to be obscured or given a twist so hardly anyone really knows – except the very few who have to know those things – make outsiders believe they actually live in another part of town, for instance. They should avoid video/TV and photos as well. They need to be able to blend in with the rank and file at will.

What you have written is totally absurd. (unnecessary name-calling removed). Donetsk and Lugansk to “come under Ukrainian administration by default” ? What are you talking about ? By what default ? Also, “no one lefty to lead the two republics” ? What gives you that idea ? Don’t worry, a replacement will be found
There is a top-to-bottom view of leadership and a movement. Then there is a bottom-to-top view.
The oligarchs of course take the top-to-bottom view from their proclaimed heights. They try hard in their media to put this view into the minds of others. But there is another view.
The top-to-bottom view focuses on leaders and individuals. They write histories that say that this great person or that great person did this, or that this bad person did that. But history is always more complicated than that. If something changes the world, there is always a movement of a lot of people playing a lot of roles in that army behind the General with the pipe striding onto the beach before the newsreel cameras.
That’s what makes us strong against the oligarchs who feel their own organization would fall apart without their leadership, and who try to destroy us by what they call “decapitation attacks” against our leaders. We are far more than just a leader. We are proud of the flag bearer leading the charge. But when they go down, another of us is glad to grab the flag and continue.
Another warrior falls, joining for eternity his multitude of comrades who fell before him, all united in their love of Russia and Donbas. God speed, my brother in arms, God speed. We never met, but we will.

Well spoken. I too never met him, but I was impressed by what I saw on the Internet. I trust a competent replacement will soon be found.
I am very saddened by the news. Aleksandr Zakharchenko was a brilliant leader. I saw him on the Internet. He was cool, intelligent and professional. Those who take over from him will have to take the security question very seriously. Kiev is obviously hoping to subvert the two republics from within. It will not achieve the desired effects.
Although it happened in The Ukraine proper instead of Donbass or Lugansk this brought back memories of Oles Buzina. So horrible and sad.
i just saw this

“According to Deputy Defense Minister and defense spokesman of Donetsk People’s Republic Eduard Basurin, the US could have taken part in the assassination of the Donetsk People’s Republic head Zakharchenko.”
Connect the dots. The orcs don’t take their morning constitutional without asking Foggy Bottom how many corn cobs they can use to clean up the mess.

I always thought the nazis would take the opportunity to hit during the world cup, to magnify the effect, but it was always clear that they would try and try and try….like Putin, who I believe has to be permanently alert.
A very nice man, and a hero. RIP
Well said. Now The Global Alliance for Evil, as Eric Zuesse described them, (esp.) hits Russia during the major standoff in Syria.
This is not about Donbass, but about Rothschild’s hitmen targeting Russia, whether it is Aleksandr Zakharchenko or the Alexandrov Ensemble.
So whats the solution to this standard khazar decapitation strategy? Will they target Putin next?
I beg your pardon!
I think that you will find that VV Putin has previously been targeted and will continue to be so.

“Just like the murders of Morotola or Givi, this murder proves that there is a major, massive, problem with the DNR/LNR security services” Saker agree with you. It even opens the omnious possibility of corruption inside the same local security services wich of it happened would be simply devastating. It opens other even darker options like an inside job paid from outside of course). It is simply unbelievable that after the murders of Motorola and Givi security has not improved. This killing has for sure no millitay impact but the psychological is just horrible. Please somebody do something abut it (security)!
If memory serves, I thought Putin/ MOD had indicated that assassinations of Russian personnel would be responded to in kind. (I believe this was in reference to Syria.) So – aside from the usual statements on the political status of DNR/LNR, where does that leave the assassin of Zakharchenko, and those behind the assassination? Is a “bring the perps to justice” response possible here, or would this fall into the category of a tit for tat response? And how does this cycle of international lawlessness and force/counterforce (to retain strategic balance) finally get broken?
My ancestors, being barbarians (Scots) believed in ‘Do well and spare not’. Thus when somebody gave you a gift, the return had to be better. I would consider the Novorussians to be of a similar ilk.
Other writers on this site have stated that the ‘International Courts’ and similar bodies are only for the ‘elite’ as they consider themselves, and previous cases have proven that belief, ergo the response will be of the tit type, but I would hope better and bigger.
I believe the perpetrators have been apprehended. Did that occur with the previous assassinations? If not, then there is now a trail to the planners, and that is a good chess move. Russians always enjoyed chess and the US ‘checkers’. It should be interesting.
It’s hard to attribute this to carelessness about security. They had tried to kill him before, more than once. They had killed all the other great leaders. He was the head of the Republic. He knew he was a target and he knew how crucial it was to have good security around him.
This was a professional job, either by the Ukrainians under strict guidance and supervision of their handlers, or directly by their handlers
Yes, seems like maybe one shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that security was lax.
How many attempts have been foiled already?
It is difficult to prove a negative.
Maybe security was good, but the adversary was better.
Perhaps the success of the attack should be seen as evidence—of the level of professionalism, skill, and maybe technology involved and depth of seriousness of the intention to eliminate AZ.
“Professionalism” in the context of assassination immediately brings to mind Mossad.
Who does it better than the profis at Mossad, aka Assassination Inc?

I can’t imagine Donald Trump entering a cafe without the Secret Service having very carefully searched the building for bombs, and then locking down the building after the search to make sure no new ones were planted.
I’m not sure why the President and the Finance Minister decided to step out for a bit of lunch, but if it was Trump then that building would have been crawling with security hours before Trump got there. I’d imagine the same would be true for Putin, but I’ve never been in a Russian city during a Presidential visit to know for sure.
May the Almighty God grant rest to this fallen Orthodox warrior.
Vechnaya Pamyat
a transparently decent and compassionate man, a brave leader, an inspirational leader.
Although 100% security is impossible, it strikes me as strange that such iconic leaders of Novorossia can be assassinated with such apparent ease. I think of one of my country’s great heroes, Michael Collins, who strolled and cycled around Dublin city, saturated with British soldiers, spies and the local Dublin Metropolitan Police. Yet he led a massively effective intelligence, and spying ring alongside a guerilla war for the duration of our War of Independence without even having a hand laid upon him.
Zakharchenko was a man I greatly admired and is not just a great loss to his own people, but to decent freedom loving and righteous people around the world.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Yes.
Think of Stolypin – the best people’s Statesman in Zar Nikolai’s time , assassinated in Kiev.
And Zar Alexander II himself , and Grandduke…………
For those in the West not familiar with Stolypin. He was a reformer who started to move Russia in a positive direction. His work had to be stopped as it was not something desired by the Anglo-Zionists Oligarchs.
From my heart : yes.
Thank you for saying
A great loss and a very sad day. (((
Will Putin be able to restrain the DPR from retaliating?
Will there be a massive fireball in kiev taking out poroshitko, his family and a lot of his ministers and mps…?
That’s what its going to take, they should also take out SBU/Gestapo HQ in Kiev, they need to get the message.
“When it is the rule, then most certainly something is very wrong”
Agree with Saker on that.
There could be more than meets the eye. Personally suspect an internal rivalry among some Russian factions more than anything else. Official Russian State declaration will put the blame to Ukronazis which is convenient, but I know there is some long lasting feud between some Russian political factions (though I am nowhere an expert or knowledgeable individual about Russian deep state affairs). However, remember Strelkov and how hastily he was dismissed? Givi, Motorola and now Zakharchenko. They knew too much and very much liked by their own people and the Russians in general. I think, being a hero in the eyes of public can sometimes be dangerous in a country as volatile as Russia. May be they became a liability? Something definitely doesn’t fell right.
As Saker said “cui bono”?
That hypothesis suggests that there is a faction powerful enough inside the DNR/LNR to kill of all of its main leaders. I find that hard to believe. And to those who think that “Putin done it” I would reply that if the Kremlin wanted Zakharchenko removed, all it had to do was to order him to retire, like what happened to Plotnitskii.
Now, the most likely hypothesis is an assassination by western agents, most likely with internal complicity from western agents inside the DNR/LNR security establishment. I am not saying that this is what happened for sure, but this is the most likely scenario in my opinion.
The Saker
“most likely” is not a good choice of words in this rough times…
This is the Western media explanation. I guess they forgot that Russia uses Novichok for assasinations.
Strelkov lost two-thirds of the two oblasts, lost control of his command, was a ego maniac who depended on Motorola to save his ass in the “retreat” from Slavyansk.
He had to be removed. The militia battalion leaders all hated him.
And he executed a militia member for stealing a T-shirt.
So forget Girkin. The “Shooter” was an imbecile.
Cassandra has a treasure trove of info on the clown. Maybe she’ll share the facts some day.
Within the last year, hasn’t there been a few articles about assassin squads being trained by Anglo-americans? Really, black operations are needed to address this problem. Ruining Kiev’s military parade may be good for a few laughs, but laughing doesn’t win many wars. correct?
The Givi and Moto deaths were more explicable than this. Both may have refused to live a highly secure life because of duty requirements. There’d be no reason for Zakharchenko to take such risks.
I suppose in every occasion, we’d need to ask where the stake out was. Who was staking out the location before arrival. Who was in the cafe, ahead of time, looking for suspicious behavior? The cafe should have been more like a live theater and less like a coffee place, if Zakharchenko was coming. He should have been coming on to a perfectly arranged set. No? Who was on guard, armed and ready to shoot, outside the location Givi was murdered? Was there one shot fired in response? Who was in the apartment above, below and beside Moto’s, listening for unsuspected guests? Who was at the elevator, who was sitting on the bench picking his nose, who was cleaning the gum from the carpets, off the stairway? Where’s the security?
just wondering . . .
For me, from afar in Louisiana, it began in 2014 as I though this website and others began to get to know the brave men and women of Novorussia. Many of them – the unknown, the lesser known and the well-known such as Motolrola, Givi and now Zakharchenko – have fallen in combat, as “collateral damage,” or, as in the case of the three aforementioned, their not being the only ones, assassinated.
I watched as did others who frequent this and related sites how Zakharchenko addressed the enemy with authority, rallied and sustained his army and the country it protects, and yet, showed compassion, even for the enemy as he counseled a captured Ukrainian soldier with his mother.
Such men are rare – the embodiment of meekness which has absolutely nothing to do with weakness. A meek man is a strong-willed man who has, nevertheless, subordinated himself to the Lord of All. In that subordination he is able to find the correct balance between coercion and caritas; without hesitation he can send men into battle to die for home and hearth and kith and kin; yet he can show mercy and find grace even in the darkest hour.
May the Lord of Hosts raise up another in his place; and at the same time give Good Aleksandr that word which all Christian men long to hear: Well done, good and faithful servant!
This is the most beautiful and sad tribute. Thank you!!!
I am in mourning. Gud hjalpe Ånd hans, God help his spirit, as the Vikings said.
Maybe they need more secretive leaders – leaders who don’t give interviews, photos, videos to the press. I know that in Syria – many leaders/generals who were lauded as a heroes ended up getting killed, like General Zahreddine.
This is really sad news. Our hearts go out to his family and the families of those who also died as a result of the actions of “terrorists”. Let us not kid ourselves about who did this and they should be made to pay. Novichok the lot of them.
Whoever takes over in the long run, has to understand that they cannot live a normal life. This is a territory at war. No visiting restaurants/bars etc. Normal life is impossible. You must move from one building to another under constant guard. use different entrances. Never take the same route twice.
Aleksandr, along with Givi and Motorola, were personal heroes of mine. Infact, it was the Ukrainian crisis, and this blog, that stimulated my interest in geopolitics, and helped me gain an understanding of just how blatantly demonically evil my country (the US) truly was. Before then, I did not care about politics or geopolitics or really much of anything at all.
I owe it all to the heroes of the Donbass People’s Republic, and I also owe it to the Saker, for my awakening and understanding of the truth I have gained since then.
I thank all of you. May Givi, Motorola, Aleksandr, and all the rest who have given their lives in the fight against the Empire, rest in peace.
In the end, the Empire is going to lose, and they are going to lose badly. Every single one of them who perpetrated these horrendous wars will pay a price far beyond anything they could have ever imagined. In the end, they will not have their war against Russia. There is a plan that has been devised, which will ultimately allow us to avoid the horrors of a nuclear war. If this plan is successful, the Empire will be destroyed without going to war with Russia. However, I cannot say there won’t be a civil war in the United States, because at this rate, it definitely might happen. If it has to happen to save the rest of the world from a nuclear war, then so be it. We have plans in place for all possibilities and we are now prepared for anything.
God speed friends.
“Donetsk People’s Republic Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko, one of the greatest of world leaders, was assassinated today, August 31, 2018, no doubt by Ukrainian saboteurs. He gave his life willingly for the freedom of his country. Let us know he has not died in vain.” — Quemado Institute
“DPR head Zakharchenko has been killed in a terror attack in Donetsk. There is every reason to believe that the Kiev regime, which has used similar means to eliminate unwanted people who have dissenting views more than once, is behind his assassination. Instead of complying with the Minsk agreements and searching for ways of resolving the internal conflict, the warmongers in Kiev are implementing the terrorist scenario exacerbating the complex situation in the region. The global community must demand, and, considering Ukraine’s puppet political system, control the impartial investigation into that crime committed in front of civilians’ eyes,” — Maria Zakharova http://tass.com/politics/1019487

“The vile murder of Alexander Zakharchenko is another evidence: those who chose the path of terror, violence, intimidation, do not want to seek a peaceful, political solution to the conflict, do not want to conduct a real dialogue with the inhabitants of the southeast. And they make a dangerous bet on the destabilization of the situation, to put the people of Donbass on their knees. This is not going to work,” Putin said.
“I hope that the organizers and executors of this crime will bear the punishment they deserve,” he added.
“I want to once again express my condolences to the relatives and friends of Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko, all residents of the Donbass. Russia will always be with you,” Vladimir Putin stated.”

Yes, Saker,a problem with DPR security. But part of the problem is the love of freedom itself. Zakharchenko wanted to walk openly among the people of Donetsk. The people there are unbelievably free compared to many places. And so maybe there’s an element of naivete, a trust in goodness. To see how free they really are, this video is wonderful:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2KUQsXUvJY&feature=youtu.be
If some good may come of this tragedy, Putin at least came out more strongly for Donbass than I’ve ever heard him do before. God bless us all.
Zakharchenko wanted to walk openly among the people of Donetsk.
Yes, I know. But this is something security services are trained to expect. In fact, that is the rule, not the exception. And there are ways to protect even that kind of “non-compliant” personality.
The Saker
Sadly I can’t help but agree. We urged him to be more careful. But now that he’s passed, I can’t bring myself to blame him.
Its time to take the war to the Rats in Kiev, way past time.
Aleksandr Zakharchenko was an endearing and noble character, in the way he led, presented and expressed himself (though, regrettably I had to rely on translations). I may be an idealist or whatever, but I felt towards him a type of brotherhood that ignores the barriers of language and nationality.
I remember distinctly when, at the beginning of his service, he said that “every fifty or a hundred years, the West tries to attack and destroy Russia. First was Napoleon, then Hitler and now we know who they are.”
I did hope, after the loss of Givi and Motorola, that Zakharchenko would be spared, but I was wrong. This was a wound inflicted not only on Donetz but on Russia.
Ineffectual as these words of mine are, I believe that if Russia will continue to passively accept murder and mayhem and only respond by verbal comdemnations, she will continue to receive murder and mayhem.
The well known forces behind all this – perfectly embodied in Victoria f..k-the-Europeans Nuland and her ilk – revel in evil, because evil is in their blood. They were, are and will remain beyond redemption. Their evil pursues a hateful end by despicable means, and it desires not so much its own happiness as another’s misery.
History reminds us of Rome and the Carthagenians. Rome unsuccessfully tried to deal with Carthage, until finally Cato said it clearly, “Carthago delenda est.”
You are right, lots of good people, not indoctrinated by Western system press and looking for the truth could not help but feeling sympathy and brotherhood with these heroes for freedom. I am Belgian and I have the utmost respect for those people resisting the imperium and bankers NWO
RIP Alexander Zacharchenko
Very sad day when a good man is killed by the Orcs. He fought the good fight and is now in heaven no doubt.
We only hear a lot of high level Russians, Syrians, Iranians be murdered or harrassed/jailed. Never about any US, UK, Israeli, Ukro high level profile being killed.
Is it a rule only the good guys gets killed and no one ever retaliate on the bad guys???
Recalling D´esperado: “The bartender never gets killed”.
What’s the point? There is no one on the US, UK, Israeli, Ukro side worth the effort. The latter have not yet understood that there is only one end to fascism. It’s far cheaper, more efficient and less costly in blood to let the maniacs destroy themselves by their own machinations.
If it comes to war we are assured the Russians are ready. But there is no point in rushing into a war that will only give energy to the fascist madmen and ensure a cataclysm of destruction when the evident and inherent contradictions will ensure the collapse of not only Kiev Ukraine but the Petrodollar system and US hegemony.
True.
The rabid dog is getting weaker every day as the disease ravages the beast.
However, the crazed animal is more dangerous every hour.
One cannot wait for each animal to die of their disease.
Better to put down the wild pack of animals.
We do it with the terrorists. Immediately dispatch them.
Now, we have to do the same with their keepers.
It is an error to think the stability of the world depends on the continued existence of fascists, tyrants, warmongers, hegemons and deviants.
They are diseased. Before they die, they inflict horrors on the innocent.
They should be destroyed like rabid animals.
“By now pretty much all the key Novorussian leaders and heroes have been murdered and it is too late to do anything about this.”
I would have thought that after the second leader had been assassinated that moves would have been made to identify the assassins. At least we now know at least two things; 1) the war against the Novorussians has shifted, and it is an ongoing event and 2) there is no sign of any reactions by these Novorussians, which is not good.
I would doubt that these assassinations originate directly from Kiev, as that gov’t has enough problems with the coming elections and the time scan of two years suggests a more patient line. Some have suggested the Mossad, but all of these ‘Intel’ agencies are interlinked as seen by 911 and the London 7/7, thus the possibility of the CIA being the paymaster is fairly high.
There is another thought; the ‘security’ of these leaders has been questioned, but it is the very same MO used against leaders within Hamas and other groups targeted by the Israelis, and mistakes or errors will always occur. That could explain the two years separation between the assassinations.
The next question is just how do the Novorussians retaliate? This is vital as the enemy must expect some sort of retaliation so they can push the blame on the Novorussians and even possibly Putin.
I would also suggest that this assassination is not an isolated incident, but should rather be associated with other events, especially in Syria, and if that is the case, then something should be expected to happen. Here is another question for you; was the ‘White Helmets’ chemical attack that is supposedly going to occur a feint to take the attention off Donbass?
Here is another question for you; would Netanyahu be stupid enough to permit the Mossad to attack Russians especially when he has a commitment from Putin? I don’t think so, so that virtually leaves the US/UK as the major suspects.
There is one other aspect to consider and that is how Putin has handled these attacks on Russia. Putin has left the defence of these two areas to the Novorussians whilst Russia has concentrated on Syrian and the Eurasian interests. There is no reason to believe that Putin and Russia will not continue on that course, while also collecting intelligence from all areas.
The attacks on Russia have been going on for at least ten years, and in various theatres, but they all relate back to one thing, the demise of the Russian nation. We all know what has happened; what we do not know is how these circumstances will unfold, but I would believe that the Russian Intelligence knows a lot more than we do.
According to the official word from the DPR (translation by Yandex): ‘This terrorist act aimed at destabilizing the situation in the Republic and conducted by special operations forces of Ukraine under the control of US intelligence.’

An analyst speaking to RT noted that Poroshenko was scheduled to be at McCain’s funeral, which is today. How that factors in is questionable, but surely there will be some high-fives in Washington over the news.
As if the week wasn’t pregnant enough with all the possibilities for the Idlib offensive, we have this.
To the memory of Comrade Zakharchenko:
“I am the worship; I am the sacrifice; I am the libation offered the souls of the ancestors; I am the sacrificial spices; I am the prayer and invocation; I am the mantram; I am the burnt offering and the butter sacrificed to the gods; I am the fire that consumes the offering; I am that which is consumed by the fire. Yea, also am I the Father of the universe – and likewise the Mother. I am the Grandparent, and the Preserver. I am the Holy One whom all seek to know. I am the mystic word “Aum”. I am the three sacred books or Vedas – the Rik, Samur and Yajur.
“Even so, am I the Path; the Comforter; the Creator; the Witness; the Resting Place; the Place of Refuge; and the Friend of All. I am the Origin and the End – the Creation and the Destruction – the Store-House – the Eternal Seed. I am the Sunshine – I am the Rain. I now press out, and I now draw in. I am Death, and yet am I Immortality. I am Being and yet am I Non-Being, and yet I am the One beyond both.”
——— From the Bhagavad Gita ( The Song Celestial)
A sad sad day.
My heart aches for the brave people of Donbass and Lugansk – may their great struggle and sacrifice not be in vain.
Putin needs to sacrifice the Donbass to secure better relations with the EU. According to the original statements, which have not been modified, Russian counters an ruins against the EU & Anglosphere are due to end next growing season. Zhakarenko has presumably objected. The Donbass 2nd Division will now fight for “power/looting rights” amongst themselves, further discrediting Russian nationalism. The population will be (have always been, a few loonies aside, the Russian insurgency was never locally popular) ready to rejoin Ukraine.
For this and a gesture or two in Crimea, the EU and Russia will lift most mutual sanctions and there will be a substantial dip in Russian inflation, especially food, to make the pension reforms more tolerable. The Russian economy is getting increasingly desperate. China is not Russia’s friend. The Russian back stop was a veto on EU and NATO membership by a refederated Donbass. This is not going to happen and Donbass is costing too much. Putin had the President’s of Abkhazia and S Ossetia in Moscow last week to tell them the money was being cut (see oil, see Russian exchange rates). Zach wasn’t invited?
Reading your comments is like looking into one of the mirrors in the fun house at Playland.
Everything is distorted. Nothing rings true.
A gesture or two in Crimea (what would that be? surrender Sevastopol? abolish the Russian language?)
China is not Russia’s friend (as the author of Double Helix white paper on China-Russia, I think I can call this total bull feathers!)
The Donbass does not have the same status as Abkhazia and S. Ossetia, or even Transnistria. So, why would Putin have Zakh to the Kremlin. In fact, dear commenter, Zakh and Putin had never met.
Sanctions have hurt EU more than Russia. Sanctions have driven the Oligarchs and much of their money out of the EU, much of it coming back to Russia.
Russian inflation is well under control. Ruble is fine internally. Where most of Russians spend their money. Not buying imports means the Ruble weak or strong is irrelevant.
So, your funhouse fact sheet needs some homework.
As for sacrificing Donbass for better relations with nazis and Russophobes?
You have to be kidding.
That wins the Vineyard Award for “Stupid of the Week”.
Donbass is Russia. It will be Russia forever. It might have been shifted to Ukraine by unconstitutional means in 1954, but that doesn’t change the social reality. The people there speak Russian, live the Russian life, have centuries of blood and bone of relatives in the earth of Donbass. And will be legally brought within Russia in due course.
There won’t be any deal for Donbass.
As for the militia never being popular? Watch the funeral for Zakh, and look at the funerals for Motorola and Givi.
The Army of Donbass is larger than ever, and stronger than ever. It has great support. There is no loss of population. In fact, since Minsk 2, more than a million have returned to Donbass. Why? Because they felt secured by the Militia.
Facts elude you. Try harder. Avoid the West’s Media for your info.
I left out one word (not) in the sentence: “It might not have been shifted to Ukraine by unconstitutional means in 1954,”
Implying unlike Crimea which was illegally shifted to Ukraine, but nonetheless, Donbass is purely Russia for the reasons I stated.
Mk And yet the trains from Moscow to Kazan are from Siemens. Somehow the Chinese bid disappeared.
I agree with most of the comment just I don’t understand for how long Putin will accept the killing of Russian citizens in Donbas?
will this be going on now forever?
is that price not a little high?
What in God’s name Putin is waiting for?
You are immensely patient and very padagogic .
The troll shall pay you a honorarium.
Thanks !
I agree with you,Putin did not care one second about the Donbass.People there have been manipulated by a small minority infiltrated by Russian mercenaries on the Kremlin payroll. The goal was to block,at any price(even 10.000 dead or more + destruction+sanctions)Ukraine entering NATO.Crimea was luckier because she is of much higher strategic importance.Recently the SVR performed some confidential polls, there is no clear majority in both DPR and LPR for independence or even less reunite with RF.Imagine in Odessa,Mariupol,Karkov even less.
This the real reason why the Kremlin never accepted both republics in RF or supported the referendum on independence a few years ago.Putin made a big mistake by accepting the result of the Ukrainian Presidential election, which was illegal. Now it is too late.Everybody says for 4 years ”Ukraine will collapse” just keep waiting, next year…It will not happen,Stockholm syndrome. The ones not happy with the Junta already left or in ‘agressor Russia’ or in Poland,Germany,London,Canada etc..by millions. The ones who stay are or too poor or too rich(oligarchs with big business). The older people and the elderly can not leave the country. What will happen one day it is not the Donbass which will return to Ukraine, but the CIA which tell the ukronazis to let them go,like that they will be able to join NATO,and Russia will have lost everything:Nato on her borders forever.Fatal mistakes.Sanctions are here to stay forever.I did not see a single product missing in the supermarkets in the EU,the sanctions are maybe hurting some agribusiness, but they found other customers than Russia and the UE gave them big compensations in cash by pure ideology. The US and the EU can not save face on the ukronazi dossier otherwise their credibility will collapse.
When Soviet state collapsed Russians lost 25 milion of their citizens who stayed abroad-but not for ever bratja…
They suffered a lot during revolution, purges, WWII – their losses (lets say 9 milion soldiers+20 mil.civilians) were so great that even numbers of dead citizens of Yugoslavia are not so impressive..
Soviets lost from 350 to 400 generals in WWII-what a loss you would say, but if you ask me I would sacrifice another batch of generals just to save few soldiers who felt like pawns in their saturday chess game.
Now hot heads wants V.V.P. to take acts so few thousands of young soldiers can die again – for what?
Denzel once said: This shit is chess, not checkers!
Donbass will never be in Ukraine again, they can kill another president if they want, but they cant win cuz they are smallRussians of vatican and their fate is to loose!
Alexandar Z. national hero of Donetck thank you and rest in peace…I demand that monuments of fallen heros should be raised in future Novorossija..Donetck,Odessa, Harkov, Mariupol.
It was the USA/NATO as the aggressor which attacked Russia via the Donbass, to which Putin had to REact, and couldn’t do more at the time because Russia was in a weaker state, and, as the head of Russia, was limited in what he could do because the Russians come first, nevertheless, he considers the Donbass people as ‘family’ and did help them.
same as previous comment … stick to the ideas and events and leave out personal attacks … ad hominem statements removed … mod
Putin has given his word that he will not allow the Donbass to be overrun. Do you even know ….what kiev wants to do to them??? But can’t, because of their resoluteness and backing of Putin.
note to commentator … we are here to discuss ideas and events of the day and not to attack other commentators … ad hominem statements removed from comment … mod
To the mod: this is the same person who posted the same at unz: http://www.unz.com/akarlin/zakharchenko-assassinated/#comment-2493368 & see their derogatory/negative remarks of the DPR. Given that you sided against me, bearing in mind that I personally KNOW people in Donetsk, and was also personally asked by a lady from Gorlovka ‘Why are they trying to kill us’, and have been in Donetsk, stood in the hallway of an apartment block there where a 75 year old lady was standing when an ukie war criminal shell exploded, hit their building for the 3rd time, insensitive morons like philip deserved my reply which you censored. So people like him deserve a reply like mine. Refer this to Saker if you don’t like this, he knows me.
What a loss for the people of the DPR. God rest his soul. I cannot get over the resemblance to Navalny. They look alike enough that they could have been brothers (no insult to Zakharchen, Navalny did not look bad, he was just the wrong guy for Russian leadership… a US educated western candidate for Russias leadership). As Vladimir quoted, this action “was a decision in support of instability”. That seemed more a veiled threat of intervention based instability than a lament that things would destabilize by themselves because of the tragedy. I wonder what form that might take.
Another loss, but people will endure. It is unfortunate that he did not anticipate such moves, but at the end, if the ukronazis had him on the crosshairs, sooner or later they would find an opportunity. As for the ukronazis, they will get what they deserve, I have no doubt. May God rest his soul.
Zakharchenko was a great hero and leader of many other heroes in the Donbass. We should never forget their sacrifices as long as we live. However, this assassination is more than just a crime. It was a political event. I have no doubts that Western intelligence agencies were involved. The West is trying to “apply pressure on multiple fronts” to Russia to stop the anti-imperialist coalition from defeating the West’s al-Queda proxy army in Syria. I believe that was the biggest motive for this Western-orchestrated terrorist attack. The West’s secondary motive was of course to “weaken the DPR”, but the DPR is much greater than one person — this aggression will only strengthen the DPR’s resolve.
I’m just very sad and it’s hard to believe for me
and I’m extremely angry at Putin
Putin should have done much more for Donbas in 2014
there are mostly Russians and they die dayly there
I have lost the hope for Donbas and even Syria may end differently than we think now
Putin has blinked to many times and the US
who is also behind Zakharenkos killing will keep the killing of Syrians and Russians going on for eternity
Putin must punish these monsters now otherwise the monsters will win
Without the face saving(for Obama)chem Syrian agreement between Obama and Putin(2013),there would never have been a Maidan(2014) and a Donbass war in Ukraine. It was a retaliation from the neocons. But Putin prefers the profits of the pipelines(Syria)than to save ethnic russians lives and… receive dozens of billions in sanctions. It is all about Israel and only about western vassalage to the anglozios.Bibi blackmails all western countries if they don’t follow the orders from Jerusalem(via terrorists attacks ‘à la Charlie’ or ‘Bataclan’-Mossad)or even worse(if necessary)with the ‘Samson option’.The problem is that Bibi also blackmails Putin(even to a lesser extent).
My heart just sank. A teardrop for a hero. Fuck this “war”.
But war it is, and it has to b conducted that way. Unfortunately, by the very nature of this civil war, the very best are in the crosshairs and if you want to relay a measure of normalcy to the people, heavy security for some is not good optics.
Indeed, they all knew what they are up for. Motorola, Givi, Zak, they have all spoken about the risk, they knew it was a question of when, not of if. We, who are not in a direct war do not understand the rules of the game, but they are that – rules, laws, like gravity.
So I understand.
I now only wish for balance. Balance, revenge, so the murderers get what is coming to them.
Whoever they may be…
This is a real shock it hits us very deep. It leaves you empty but turned to the One without a second
There are many Russian in Israhell. some of them may be in the Mossad. This evil event as the ones before smells like it. This is not a political murder. Those who planned and did it are the servants of the great evil one, the force of destruction that plagues humanity since the beginning of time
I will miss Aleksandr Zakharchenko, along side with Motorola, Givi and many others. RIP to the other victims too. Their struggle is just and they were valiant warriors. Their fighting spirit and bravery, like those of the Houthis, are what seems to me manifestations of godliness.
My wishful mind: Maybe they will come back and fight again until the great enemy is defeated.
AZ was just figurehead. Real leaders are in Russia and Mossad or CIA have no idea who they are. This war is waged by Russian professionals but the aim is not to win it at all but let Kiev coup feel the economic and military pain.
This war will continue until there has been 180 degree turn in Kiev. In this stage none will invest to Ukraine.
Russian military competence compared to man power has been poor during military history. According stydy made by professor Lev Lopukhovsky, Boris Kavalerchik and Harold Orenstein the real number of military deaths of Great Patriotic War has been much higher than figures given by Krivosheev in early 1990’s. Their study is suggesting deaths been staggering 14,600,000.
Putin understand this dilemma and wants to modernize army and abandon that old steamroller idea.
Strelkov
Aleksei Mozgovoy. Ghost brigade. Rip. (40yrs. May 2015. were ambushed while travelling in a rebel-controlled area. convoy was struck by a bomb, and survivors subsequently mowed down with gunfire.).
Mikhail “Givi” Tolstykh. Rip 2017. (36yrs. killed in a rocket attack on his office in Donetsk.).
Arseny “Motorola” Pavlov. Rip. (33yrs. October 2016 homemade explosive device went off in his apartment block.)
Aleksandr Bednov (batman). Rip.
“shot dead by the security services of the so-called Lugansk People’s Republic. Local authorities later said he was wanted for various crimes but resisted arrest and began shooting back.” Or: “His former battalion later said that his car was set on fire, and six other people were killed with him.”
Pavel Dremov. Rip december 2015. (39yrs. leader of ethnic Cossack militia. killed together with his driver when his car exploded at a petrol station on his wedding day).
Alexander Zakharchenko. Rip 2018.
——
After the Aleksei Mozgovoy, the Ghost Brigade commander got killed, the Lugansk leadership was sort of out of control/corrupt). So it is likely that the lugansk leadership can have been involved in sabotages and killing of some of the novorossia heroes. (Because donetsk/novorossia wanted to clean up some of the corruptions. To stop some of the stealings/distortions/mafialike behaviours from parts of lugansk areas).
Others suspicious behaviours/comflicts or escaped out of novorossia:
Khodakovsky. (Vostok brigade)
Igor “Demon” Bezler
Conclusions:
You can never freeze a warconflict !!!.
If you try to freeze a conflict, then either the other side (the illegal government in kiev and their stooges) will just get a chance to hunt down and take out the great (very talented) leaders 1 by 1.
Strelkov did the only sensebile thing. When his name got too famous, and he got told that russia would not help (minsk agreement), he moved out of novorossia. (Or he would have just been a sitting duck who would have waited for beeing assasinated).
Just lets hope that when the war unfreezes again, that novorossia still have many (not so known yet) talents who can easily outsmart the (now nato/western trained) ukrainee military.
Strelkov, Motorola, Mozgovoy, etc was very impressive in their tactics. (Making the western supported ukrainee military into complete fools. With heavy losses).
If you cannot protect your leaders within your own borders than obviously their is a lack of a properly functioning secruity apparatus, an integrated network of intelligence officers, secruity and civil informants and law enforcement.
This is not rocket science.

I’am no security expert, but where VIP protection is concerned, and specifically in this case where many top leaders have been eliminated, are we to not expect that when the president travels around, security teams are sent in advance to scout, sweep, sterilize and secure the area that he is travelling to?
Several teams have to be sent ahead of the VIP to secure the intended location to be visited, and all the surrounding areas in proximity including all entrances and exists.
It can be an expensive and huge logistical undertaking, but it is what is required, if you wish to safe guard the lives of high value targets.
If this WAS NOT done today, then what it indicates is that these guys are clearly not aware of the huge danger that surrounds them and should set about fixing this problem now!
if this WAS done, and the bombing happened despite taking all these huge security precautions, then what it indicates is that they are up against the huge intelligence apparatus and resources of the likes of the Mossad and the CIA.
Fortunately however, either scenario can be overcome by capable Russian assistance,
Moscow must come in and give them the training and resources necessary to secure their leaders and also covertly deploy intelligence assets to match the foreign intelligence agencies currently working with Kiev to eliminate the local leaders.
Selah
Sad indeed. God forgive him.
Has anyone noticed that Donetsk is some 200Km from the ‘Jerusalem on the Dnieper’ (Dnipro, former Dnipropetrovsk, former Dnepropetrovsk, former Ekaterinoslav) the ‘fief’ of the vanished in the thin air but ‘Still Throwing His Weight Around (Kyiv Post 2016), the ‘Ukronazi’ (“Zhidobandera”) Ihor Valeriyovych Kolomoyskyi (איגור קולומויסקי)? The man once dubbed ‘the most powerful Jew in the world’ (Haaretz, 2014)? Azov?
Just asking.
Aleksandr Zakharchenko : a passing long waiting in the wings, its inevitability deeply contrasted with the sense of his strangely ever present, quiet spirit and personality.
According to the official DPR report today (translated), ‘our sources in the headquarters of OOS and “East” referred to 14 September as a possible date of onset [of an offensive by kiev].’

“Something is rotten in the state of Donetsk”.
Cui Bono?
Russia. It makes it easier to abandon the Donbass. The pre war population was 4.5 million. About 2 million ethnic Russians. 1 million of them favoured annexation by Russia or independence. Basically whichever side has the Donbass will inherit 1 million discontented from one population or the other. Indeed if Russia took it there might be 2 million discontented Ukrainians.
Soarintothesky: ‘Russia. It makes it easier to abandon the Donbass.’ – I’ll take Putin’s word … ad hominem statement removed … mod ‘…to all the people of Donbass. Russia will always stand together with you.’ & ‘to bring the people of Donbass to their knees. This will not happen.’

The problem arises at the zero minute when Russia allows a coup d’état in his hozico lease (PUTIN) in a country like Ukraine where the president exercised a certain independence of both NATO and RUSSIA would have been enough for him to have asked for help of Russia and this would have responded quickly I suppose but if you let the blow happen and you look for another side it does not show anything else that you are a matao I mean Putin is very easy to be a strategist and ready for life but the reality is the What is it. that you are worth so many weapons if they laugh at you almost every day.
But somebody will have to take their place and it is them that the Russians need to protect now. Top DNR/LNR brass will exclusively be from Russia from now on. The locals have “moved aside” as you requested.
Apart from RT, I haven’t checked Russian or Ukrainian sites in over a month.
Checked Vesti randomly yesterday, and….total shock.
Aleksandr Zakarchenko murdered along with others in a terror attack on a cafe.
Never really expected this, he seemed invincible.
It’s a huge loss personally for his family, and to the Donbass.
My heart goes out to them all.
I only hope for renewed determination in the Donbass once the shock subsides.
It’s what he would have wanted, and what he devoted his life to.
Some day I will visit, when all the sturm und drang subsides.
And pay my respects to one of the few heroes of these, our decadent and destructive times.
It was his appointed time with death. Even when assassinations are planned they often fail due to chance fate destiny or God. We will all be dead one day dying at our appointed time. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment. Hope that he has laid up treasures in heaven through his good deeds. Do not fear death.
He was a great man. Brave, but also kind and compassionate. When I heard the news I was disappointed but I can’t say I was surprised – given what happened to virtually every other prominent figure in Novorossiya. I agree about the lack of security, which is crazy given how obvious it was that the coup regime would try to murder him. Almost certainly the CIA and Mossad are involved in these terrorist attacks. I think it’s about time the victims start to retaliate. The only thing that will deter them from continuing these attacks is if they know they will face retaliation afterwards. Kolomoisky, Poroshenko (Valtsman), Groisman or any of the other Zionist oligarchs need to be made to pay for their crimes. That’s the only way you can get them to stop. They don’t care how many of their useful idiot “Ukrops” die – they have to personally pay the price.
He was a pawn. A true rebel would fight for independence and nothing less. Moscow has tired of the Donbass project and eliminated a problem for itself. See for yourself, it offers only words, Putin is waking up to the need to restore normal relations with Ukraine .
My thoughts on Zakharchenko’s death : The very thing that he went in the center of the city to a cafe is strange in itself. He may have trusted his security service for his protection but this cafe walk out was his idea or someone else’s suggestion from his close circle ? (we shall never know that).
Without treason such thing could not happen or if there was no treason (which is doubtful) means that there is a major problem in the security apparatus itself.
He, as person in charge (in his function as leader) can be replaced, as many here said. Remains to be seen if the knowledge of internal things (known only by him) can be replaced. More than probable, all other well known leaders (Givi, Motorola) who were killed, also had a personal knowledge of internal things which have gone with them in the big silence. The lack of trust is evident, they new they have been monitored for some time and their life was in danger but have they succeeded in sharing some of their “knowledge of things” to someone close to them whom they trusted ? If almost everything is penetrated by the enemy from outside and from within, very dangerous days are lying ahead.
There is this thing called the “chain of command” and bodyguards are not at the top of it.
The Donetsk culture reminds me of Newfoundland fishing villages. Egalitarianism is enforced by sharp observation and a ready “You think you’re a star?”
Remember Givi after he was ambushed on the way to the airport? “Why would I need a bodyguard? I’m not some kind of high muck-a-muck.”
Your “man of the people” was a charismatic leader on the playground; it’s what they are. Their easy connection to the people around them is part of their identity. They don’t want to give it up.
Givi, again, the day he got his colonel’s stars, in an airport defensive position with a dozen or so others — he’s trying to be one of the boys but anybody watching if asked “which one is the highest-ranking there?” would have no trouble saying “the tall, dark one.”
They are reluctant to trade fellowship for deference and they fight it.
It’s a truism that there is no real defence against assassination; the complexities lie purely in getting the assassin safely away afterwards.
C
“It’s a truism that there is no real defence against assassination; the complexities lie purely in getting the assassin safely away afterwards.”
Exactly. This is especially true in a frontier region like Novorussia, where the comings and goings of outsiders is not as easy surveil.
So the DNR security is weak and compromised, and the only solution is to send in a Russian general (presumably with some security detail for his protection) to sort things out? Great. Just one photo of him with DNR leaders in DNR will provide ‘proof’ of a Russian invasion and direct Russian control of the republics. Good move.
The attack was well organised. The bomb was placed at the entrance to the building and detontated by remote control. The device was designed to kill by direct blast and fire. The female PR rep in the group uffered from fatal 60% burns over her body.

From God We have come and to him is our return
And do not think of those killed in Allah’s path as dead: indeed they are alive and receive their sustenance from their Lord. They rejoice in the bounty provided by Allah. (Surah 3, Aal-e Imran verse 169-170)
RIP a Hero.
I agree that there’s a major, massive, problem with the DNR/LNR security services. The failures in the work of special services are obvious. They need to urgently change something in their work.
Taking into account what happened, I think Russia should draw the following conclusions and/or take the following measures:
– Disavow the recognition of the legitimacy of the current Ukrainian authorities. It has long been a necessary decision, the adoption of which the Russian authorities for some reason are still postponing.
– Recognize a number of Ukrainian officials as persona non grata in Russia.
– To declare that further meetings in the Normandy format are impossible, while Petro Poroshenko and his entourage are in power. To meet in the Normandy format after the assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko (one of the signatories of the Minsk agreements) by one of the participants in this format would have been a complete surrealism. However… it seems the spineless and weak-willed policy of Russia towards Ukraine allows the option of such a meetings even(!) after the terrorist attack in which the head of the DPR died.
– Recognize the verdict of the Ukrainian People’s Tribunal, who condemned Petro Poroshenko and other officials of Ukraine guilty of genocide and sentenced to life imprisonment, having legitimate force in the territory of the Russian Federation.
– Seriously consider the possibility of recognizing the independence of LDPR.
– To consider the possibility, in agreement with the authorities of the LDPR, to place a Russian military base on the territory of the republics.
– Develop and introduce into the Russian legal field the concept of a ‘state that supports terrorism’ and recognize the United States such a state, with all the ensuing consequences. There are already sufficient grounds for such a decision (illegal and criminal US’ activities in Syria, support and sponsorship of the Kiev regime, continuing US support for the war crimes of the Saudis in Yemen etc).

A few of your points need consideration.
But this one is my exact sentiment:
“To meet in the Normandy format after the assassination of Alexander Zakharchenko (one of the signatories of the Minsk agreements) by one of the participants in this format would have been a complete surrealism.”
I cannot believe there are spokespersons in the Russian press and political sphere still talking about some sort of agreements, after the assassination of one of the signatories. What’s worse, pride seems to have a lot to do with it. I can almost hear, “These agreements are sacred because we excluded washignton.” As if merkel is something other than washington! Well, maybe she’s virgina. Not far off.
Russia needs to get the b-team off the field, immediately.
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them, said Shakespeare in Twelfth Night. All three may have applied to Zakharchenko, but in different ways, according to how they may be seen.
He took a great weight of responsibility on his shoulders, one that may not have rested easily or naturally with him, and from the early days, in the interviews and videos one saw, he often appeared severely burdened by the task.
Naturally the task was burdensome, and he was not unequal to it, on the contrary, but at the same time his true greatness seemed to lie elsewhere. This elsewhere, he managed to encapsulate not only by being who he was, but in possessing those qualities we identify as truly representative of Russian people.
Rest in Peace.
Lions do not heed the ruminations of mice. Until you have stood guard with a rifle, knowing that at any time, you could die defending your ground. Until you have faced battle, bullets flying past you, shells exploding around you and the smell of death in your nostrils, do not ctitisize those who fight and defend their cities from facism. If you will not go to war, pick up a weapon and stand shoulder to shoulder with those willing to die for what they believe in, be silent in your cowardice.
Well said, VB, I agree with your comment.
Why don’t they protect their leaders? Nothing is ever safe.
Don’t they have dogs to smell out these places before they enter?
I believe the Russians/Soviets even trained dogs to run under German tanks with explosives. Heavens, no one can ban the movement of trained dogs across a porous frontier or see them by satellite.
I wonder what security will be necessary at the funeral. Dignitaries from Russia, and other nations will be there.

Given the timing, with Syria preparing to launch an offensive and the pension issue inside Russia(which not been Russian I don’t understand) this is likely a calculated hit, intended to put pressure on or destabilize Russia.
And I completely agree with the Saker, there seems to be significant issues with DNR/LNR internal security.
