Dear friends,
Here is a quick update. First, a (provisional) map (which is typically 6 hours late or so):
I think that this map is self-explanatory, especially since the only major change is in that pink box. What we see here is what looks to me like an envelopment of the city of Odessa and the surrounding towns. I would also notice that the distance between the Russian forces in Transnistria is quickly shrinking.
The Russian prong going south from Kiev is still pretty far from the prong coming from the south in the pink square, but considering that there are very few forces between them, this might be significant. On this map, you can see that there are few Ukrainian forces inside the black oval, which is what I could call “Mad Max land“.
Just for comparison’s sake, here is the Ukie disposition in the Donbass (see right) – just compare the concentration and that tells the real story.
By the way, the forces shown here in the right are the ones already stuck in the operational cauldron in the Donbass.
The other big news is that the Russian Aerospace forces have sharply increased their sorties and targets are hit in much higher numbers.
The same goes for Russian helicopters which are now engaging both fixed and mobile targets pretty much in the entire area of operations.
It seems likely to me that Odessa will soon by completely surrounded, but whether the Russians will actually enter the city or not is unclear to me, but looking at the map above, and knowing how anti-Nazi most locals are, maybe this will be a place for a negotiated surrender?
I sure hope so.
Next,
The Russian Embassy in Geneva has released a document entitled “War Crimes and Crime against Humanity Committed by the Ukrainian Military-Poltiical Leadership in the Donbass” and made it available here:
https://geneva.mid.ru/en_US/web/geneva_en/donbasstragedy
Their servers are now also under DDoS attack, as are most Russian government resources and, in yet another illegal act of international aggression, most Russian media outlets in the West.
I managed to find that document here:
https://disk.yandex.com/d/NxzaukFVNmSHSA/Presentation%20Ukrainian%20War%20Crimes.pdf
I have also uploaded it here:
https://archive.org/details/presentation-ukrainian-war-crimes
I ask you to please DOWNLOAD and CIRCULATE this document.
I don’t know how resistant Archive.org is to the letter soup censorship, nor do I know how good Yandex is with dealing with DDoS attack.
So please MAKE COPIES.
If there are enough copies out there, “they” will give up preventing it from circulating and will simply dismiss it all as “Russian war propaganda”.
One more thing:
Our IT guru has been working REALLY hard to upgrade our hardware and software, but there is a good chance that over the next week end we might have to migrate to a bigger, more powerful, machine.
So far, this is not due to DDoS attacks, but to the truly crazy number of connections we are getting 24/7.
Right now, all our hardware is maxed out, so if the blog loads slowly, please be patient, it will load eventually.
Sorry!! This the proverbial “price of success”. We will do our best to scale up as soon as we can.
If the bad guys bring us down, in one way or another, I will report that here http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com/ and here at https://t.me/The_Saker.
I leave you with a machine translated summary of the day by Boris Rozhin below.
Notice the first estimate of fatalities on the Russian side: 498 killed. This is the price Russia is paying for saving Ukrainian lives and taking towns with special urban assault groups rather than using her firepower (including her full air supremacy over the entire Banderastan airspace).
Eternal Memory to those who sacrificed their lives while saving others!
Andrei
***
1. Mariupol. The city is blocked. Fighting on the outskirts. There is no direct assault yet. They are still trying to negotiate the exit of civilians, but the Nazis will not refuse a human shield. There will be an assault one way or another.
2. Volnovakha. Surrounded. The stripping process is not fully captured yet. The enemy has very heavy losses,
3. Near Donetsk positionka. The APU attack (sortie) on Gorlovka did not yield results, both sides suffered losses. The shelling of the territory of the DPR continues.
4. The liberation of the republic continues in the LPR. Svatovo and Novoaydar were liberated. The enemy retreats, throwing equipment. It will hold only in Severodonetsk and Lisichansk, but they have already started processing it there.
5. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have occupied Balakleya and are moving towards Raisins. And there Slavyansk is not far away. It is very likely that in the coming days, part of the AFU forces remaining in the northern regions of the LPR and not having time to retreat will be surrounded and liquidated.
6. Kharkiv. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are already being held in semi-custody. Fighting on the outskirts. In the city – the methodical destruction of the enemy’s manpower and its organizational and command structure. Along the way, they continue to finish off the remaining military facilities.
7. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation approached the Brovars. There is no direct assault yet. Fighting near Chernihiv, measures to establish full control over Konotop. Trostyanets is fully occupied. Sumy and Akhtyrka are still not fully controlled.
8. Positional battles to the west of Kiev — the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are pulling up additional forces. There are losses in equipment on both sides.
9. Zaporozhye direction. Battles near Vasilevka. APU is constantly being poured over the village. Energodar has not yet been cleaned up.
10. Kherson. The city was occupied at night by the troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The local authorities eventually agreed to an agreement. The city is relatively quiet.
11. In the area of Nikolaev, fighting continues with the aim of blocking the city, which has not yet been achieved. The situation in the area of the Nikolaev – Krivoy Rog highway is unclear. Helicopter landing near Nikolaev. In the Voznesensk area, one of the bridges was blown up.
12. No one landed in Odessa as usual. In the morning, Russian ships appeared on the horizon, then departed. Then something was smoking over the horizon. Perhaps there was another naval battle with the remaining boats of the Ukrainian Navy, which, after the battle at Zmeiny, went to Odessa. (later it turned out that a foreign cargo ship was smoking, perhaps something had arrived) There are no details yet. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asks Zelensky to achieve a pause in hostilities, since the city is not covered from the land direction and is not ready to repel the attack of Russian columns bypassing Nikolaev from the north.
From a very fresh, completely wild story in Vasilkovo, where a local volksturm staged a massacre at a local school. 4 volkssturmistas killed 14 other Volkssturmists, policemen and civilians. Ukropropaganda hastened to announce that it was “Russian saboteurs” who were rushing to the basement of the school (yes, everything was happening at school), where there were 300 children, protecting whom all these idiots died. That’s what the distribution of weapons to random people leads to. Yesterday, in the same area, volkssturmists looted 2 collector cars.
In this case, Russian propaganda does not even need to try, you know, show yourself this bloody trash, which says a lot about the Volkssturm and those who created it in this form.PS. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be held tomorrow in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.
Lavrov outlined the negotiating position of the Russian Federation:⚡ I do not rule out that someone wanted Russia to get mired in a man-made conflict created by the West in Ukraine
Russian demands to Ukraine cannot be qualified as its surrender, Moscow offers to negotiate
If the West has decided to lower a new “iron curtain” in front of Russia, we will not worry and will find an opportunity to develop
The task of the operation in Ukraine is to identify specific types of strike weapons that will never be deployed there
⚡ After the end of the conflict, Ukrainians themselves must decide how to live on
Kiev has not yet confirmed the holding of the second round of consultations with the Russian Federation
NATO is trying to involve neutral EU member states in providing for their needs
Moscow is amazed by Berlin’s comments on Ukraine and on arms supplies
Russia is ready to discuss the issue of security guarantees during the second round of negotiations with Ukraine
Zelensky came to power under the slogans of peace, eventually he became a Russophobe, like the Poroshenko government
Ukraine has the technical potential to create nuclear weapons, the Russian Federation will not allow it
Russia is 100% “safe” in the current situation
The current situation has developed due to the fact that the West refused to recognize equal rights for the Russian Federation in the organization of the Euro-security architecture
The parameters of demilitarization of Ukraine have yet to be agreed
Moscow will not discuss the topic of Crimea, this topic is closed
The West, in its sanctions against Russia, including the seizure of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, spat on all its principles
The purpose of the ongoing operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine is to protect people, primarily in the Donbass
Russia is now observing “information terrorism” with the stuffing of millions of fakes that Moscow exposes
⚡ Russia’s position in negotiations with Ukraine: Crimea is part of the Russian Federation, recognition of the DPR and LPR within administrative borders, demilitarization, which should have certain parameters
Ukraine must undergo the denazification procedure, as in the past Germany
⚡️ During the special operation, we are doing everything to prevent any serious civilian casualties
Russia cannot watch the participants of torchlight processions marching under fascist, neo-Nazi banners in modern Europe
Russia offers Ukraine an agreement that will ensure the legitimate rights of all the peoples of this country,
In fact, these are all the same requirements as at the beginning of the operation. Ukrainian sources claim that by March 2, Zelensky was already ready to recognize the Crimea and the LDPR within the borders before the start of the operation. But of course this will not suit the Russian Federation, the sheepskin is not worth the dressing. Bearing significant costs for the operation and from the sanctions pressure, it is necessary to take the maximum possible result from the situation in Ukraine.
UPD: The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially announced the losses in Ukraine since the beginning of the operation.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation – 498 killed. The APU has 2870 killed and 3700 wounded.
UPDATE:
Russian MOD has officially published the casualties so far:
498 Russian servicemen killed
~1,600 wounded
2,870 Ukie nazi’s and paramilitaries eliminated
3,700 Ukrops wounded
572 Ukrops taken prisoner
These numbers are believable to me because they are exactly in line with what I reported 2-3 days ago as the “unofficial MOD insider source” claimed Russian losses were 250-300 as of 3 or so days ago, so for them to be nearly 500 now is believable. Notably, the unofficial source said the numbers were for both RF and DNR/LPR, but there is no specific confirmation if these official statistics count both or only RF.

@Nightvision
What do you know about where the Ukie army has concentrated the bulk of its military assets? Is it true that the largest and highest-quality Ukie concentration is in the east, facing Donbass? Or is it possible that the Ukies have positioned the better part of their troops and weaponry in and around Kiev?
If the cream of the Ukie war machine is positioned in the east, in front of Donbass, that means Russia could virtually end the war by closing the cinch around this Ukie formation. The creation of a Stalingrad type encirclement might be enough to collapse the Ukie war effort.
It’s difficult to tell with high accuracy because part of the unprecedented agility of Russian deep battle doctrines, which struck unpredictably and moves ghost like in every region of Ukraine, means that Ukrainian forces are shrouded in disarray and must continuously try to react to where they “think” the next ghost-like attack will come. This means that there were many elites sent from Donbas region to Kiev when Russia baited them to and fro, but now Kiev has quieted down and is being surrounded while Russia concentrates elsewhere.
Here’s some pertinent maps that purport to have some order of battle / troop numbers. https://twitter.com/HN_Schlottman/status/1498521575691325441

If you read the comments many people are wondering if it’s possible for Ukr to retreat west from Donbas, and many responses indicate it would be extremely dangerous to do so as that region is patrolled by a lot of Russian aircraft and/or under fire-control by artillery etc. So the concensus seems to be that very LARGE concentrated withdrawals would be unlikely/unrealistic. This would indicate the Ukr forces in the cauldron may not be able to withdraw without being destroyed. But through the fog of war it’s impossible to tell with any full certainty.
There is no confirmation of how many troops Ukr really has in Donbas remaining. But one thing is certain is they are extremely dug in, and they are the most experienced and “blooded” warriors by far that Ukr has and will be the most difficult to dislodge.
Most of Kiev is already surrounded up to the very city center and it’s not possible to really have tens of thousands of troops, multiple battalions etc inside the city so it leads me to believe Kiev defense doesn’t have as many troops as what remains in Donbas cauldron area. Personally I do think the vast bulk of their troops is still there but that cauldron will likely be much harder to ‘close’ than people expect because right now they are not even close to that objective and it’s something that could take weeks/months depending on how certain factors play out.
Depends on how “dug in” they are. Thermobaric weapons and all that.
I doubt that closing the cauldron will take “weeks or months”. It will depend on how the “negotiations”, i.e., surrender terms, goes with the Ukraine regime. I have my doubts the regime will surrender.
Once it’s clear there will be no surrender, Russia will bring up whatever it needs to deal with the cauldrons in eastern Ukraine and annihilate them. Kiev will be surrender once the eastern Ukraine major force is destroyed or it will be starved out – that might take some weeks, but probably not. Russia is not in a hurry, but there will be a time limit.
Bottom line in war: Keep fighting against a superior enemy, you get smashed sooner or later – usually sooner. And that’s regardless of any concern for civilian casualties.
Where could I find that geneva war crimes document in russian?
Ask the Americans, they should know, they have breached it thousands of times.
A little reminder of past events: https://www.mycity-military.com/imgs4/147197_411562487_Screenshot%202022-03-02%20203822.jpg
Only 572 POWs? I presume thousands have been released, and these 572 are the hardcore one to face tribunal?
Global Times has a recent article on the Chinese report on the Human Rights situation within the USA. These are usually interesting reading.
https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202202/1253508.shtml
I guess its Attack Human Rights Day in the fascist sphere. My bookmarked link to a China Human Rights organization is also not coming up today.
I strongly recommend everyone to read the highly interesting article by Meyssan. It explains everything that the USA (the government, not the people) have done to the world in recent decades.
https://www.voltairenet.org/?lang=en
This was linked earlier, and glad of it, as it is well worth reading in full.
It explains a lot—in particular, who are those “puppeteers” pulling Biden’s strings.
So it’s good to have the link again.
It contains also an explication of just what Putin meant when he referred to junkies and criminals.
was that this one?
Russia declares war on the Straussians
https://www.voltairenet.org/article215879.html
Actually, the ”Straussians” are NOT some crypto group: they are known and have been known for over 50 years as, the Neocons. Why Thierry sees the need to invent a new name for them now, is most curious.
Thanks for the update, Andrei!
It’s great to see that some of your prognostications from recent days have indeed come true (i.e., Mariupol cauldron). MSM and the prominent think tank experts refused to inform the Western public of these developments, but you did. That means we can look forward with confidence concerning your other indications about where this war is headed!
A huge Ukie cauldron in front of Donbass. That’s what I am waiting for. I can’t think of anything else! I will rejoice when it’s confirmed that the Russian army has cut off the escape route for this large concentration of UKR nazis.
Yes and they will need to screen all the people to dig out any Nazi war criminals to face justice, those rats have forced Russia t fight fascism once again.
Launching of operation in Odessa is a great news. The Ukro Nazis committed the most heinous crime here.
Linking up with Transnistria and taking control of the coast of Black Sea will become significant events this month.
“The Ukro Nazis committed the most heinous crime here.”
I’m pretty sure we’re going to see more. I haven’t forgotten what I’ve heard surrounding Kramatorsk, waiting to be unburied (literally) – even mentioned by Zakharchenko himself.
Confirmed: US imperialists wanted to drag Russia into a war with Ukraine since at least 2019

this comment has been flagged as of little/no value (possibly troll) by the saker
I’ve no evidence however, is it a stretch to suggest early successes by the Ukronazis were due to imbedded mercenaries (ie: Academi types) provided with US intel? Which then led to the call for a Ukranian foreign legion? How long can/will those guys last?
what early successes?????
Stop hallucinating…
someone western propagandist had a great quote yesterday on twitter. He said something to the effect of,
“I started realizing Ukrainian sources were exaggerating when each “Heroic Victory” occurred closer and closer to major cities.”
How can you have ‘major victory’ 100km from Kiev, then next day “major victory” at 50km from Kiev, then next day “Major Victory” on outskirts of Kiev….it’s “Baghdad Bob” levels of ludicrous, COMICAL propaganda.
True but some of the fakery is quite ludicrous. Many people want to believe it because “brave little Ukraine”. Same in 1914…
And the same in 08.08.08 when the “NATO trained” Georgian forces were declared a “tough nut to crack” by western ‘experts’.
Apparently nobody told the Russians :-)
Andrei
@Nightvision
I saw that tweet yesterday. I don’t think it was made by someone who is part of the Western propaganda machine. It was made by a foreign woman who, if I recall correctly, is some kind of academic in her country. She has in excess of 20,000 followers.
But yeah… her point is well made. She mocked the Western MSM and think tank “expert” culture in a scathing, scornful tone.
I’m tracking the biggest, supposedly most “credible” think tank experts on Twitter. I’m doing the same regarding major figures in the Western media/propaganda mill. They have been huge peddlers of the “brave, victorious Ukies” and “barbarian Russians” and “defeated Russians” theme during this past week. As of yesterday, a small handful of them started issuing grim, depressed, pessimistic tweets about the Ukie military position. So, cracks are starting to appear in the armor of these people, who have got the US and European public brainwashed and zombified.
Anytime a prominent member of the Western propaganda machine issues a tweet signaling US/NATO/UKR defeatism, or loss of hope, or admitting that the Ukie army is in danger, I’ll share those tweets with people on this forum.
I don’t know, in my mind I’ve scored all sorts of victories, like the time I had acute constipation for several days but battled on through to the 5th day with ultimate success.
LOL I feel you.
There was something similar during the battle of Stalingrad. Germany kept reporting capturing the train station, as I recall.
Yes i believe there was a fake radio broadcast from the Nazis LOL!
“For months we have been making triumphant retreats before a demoralised enemy who is advancing in utter disorder”.
– “Wasp” by Eric Frank Russell
The UkroNazis are very successful using their own citizens as a human shield.
The Russian forces had been very gentle to their opponents as if they were carressing a pussycat. The real Russian inner Bear has not even shown up, yet.
In contrast, Nato bombed Yugoslavia for 72 days and were not able to win the war.
Technically, the Serbs won:
Here is why: Before the start of Nato bombing, Nato issued a Rambouillet ultimatum to the Serbs which was created so the Serbs had to refuse it, because according to that ulimatum the Serbs had to accept a Kosovo independence referendum in Kosovo only. Other reason was a Nato occupation of the whole Yugoslavia.
After the 72 days Nato bombing the Serbs and Nato accepted an agreement in Kumanovo which stated that Kosovo was an inalienable part of Serbia (nothing about an independence referendum) and a peacekeeping force would be deployed to Kosovo.
Years later the Milosevic regime was toppled with US/western backing. The junta replaced the complete power structure with pro-western elements and disbanded the Serbian army.
The Albanians proclaimed independence in Kosovo without a referendum and the US and their vassal states recognized Kosovo as independent, which went against the Nato Serbia Kumanovo peace agreement and UN resolution 1244.
Even till this day, under president Vucic, these western elements still exist. The current Chief of Staff of Serbian forces was installed by the British. The Chief of Staff got promoted to this position by skipping several positions. In the days when Nato bombed, he fled to Croatia. That makes him a deserter.
Not enterily correct: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milan_Mojsilovi%C4%87
I’m sorry. Wikipedia? Unless you can show no edits in the last 20 years on that…I won’t even bother to read it. I will never trust it.
Wake Up! Wikipedia, really?
Please don’t take me wrong, but Wikipedia is absolutely not a reliable source, especially when it comes to subjects and biographies of politicians. They are always biased according to the Western taste.
You presumably, then are against referenda solely in Lugansk and Donetsk without the rest of Ukraine participating?
It’s a difficult question, who gets to vote in independence referenda.
But one thing you must always be is consistent….
At the UN General Assembly meeting, 141 countries condemned Russia, 35 abstained and five supported Russia.
Israel condemned Russia for its “invasion of Ukraine.” Russia still supporting Israel and see it as a partner? So much for its special relationship.
China, India, Iran, South Africa, Vietnam, Bolivia, abstained. Of BRICS Brazil condemned Russia. Which nations from SCO condemned Russia?
Hope Russia is seeing who its partners are. Does Russia still view all nations as its partners? It took advantage of partners to invest in foes. Disappointing.
The UN GA is and has always been anti-Russian, that is due to its structure.
Here is a simple fact:
The US owns most governments out there, even in Zone B.
Some US Americans (paleo Conservatives mostly) are opposed to the US attacking Russia.
The rest of them are brainwashed.
Eurorodents are brainwashed. Hopeless.
Which leaves a few countries where the population is mostly pro-Russian, but the rulers afraid of Uncle Shmuel.
That is a sad reality,
But not a problem for Russia :-)
35 countries abstained, 5 vetoed, so 40 out of 140 did not vote to condemn Russia which is about 1/3 of the GA…
Even though they are spinning it as “Russia against the world”, it’s a non-event.
“The World” consists of US, some of Europe, Canada and Australia….haven’t you heard?
SB: nice to read yuh.
The vote outcome is nothing less than a disaster for the Empire of Lies.
Only the tip of the iceberg…
… starting the avalanche.
Except for all of the preternally butt-sore toadie puppets (and their handy henschmen), all those countries who have been abused and pillaged, but forlorn to get out from under the thumb, will soon jump on the wagon.
The vote was enough to establish a real hope for a chance of a successful resistance.
When the west’s crumbling, accelerated by their own hate measures, realized, despite the ongoing information war being conducted against them, and Russia achieves all of their strategic objectives, their will be (likely) violent revolt.
Then, it could be that there will be real war crimes trials conducted in Yugoslavia, about, Yugoslavian genocide.
We’ll see in the coming weeks how the precedent for this format will look, in the Ukraine.
Odessa is going to be ugly, and scores are certain to be addressed.
“Which leaves a few countries where the population is mostly pro-Russian, but the rulers afraid of Uncle Shmuel.”
Exactly Serbian case.
Tonight, Serbia has supported UN GA resolution and “condemned Russia for aggression”. Vucic, in his maniacal manner tried to impress and frighten the population by anticipating that Russia will be expelled from UN…
What he did is NOT aligned with opinion and will of 90% of Serbian population. But, the ruler is afraid of Uncle Shmuel…
I wander, who will help him when in no time in an UK-designed well synchronized action Albanians in Kosovo and muslims in Bosnia start shooting on Serbs again.
I’ve seen reports that they threatened Vucic with sanctions in the banking sector and revoking the visa-free travel regime. It’s reasonable to predict very dark times coming for Serbia. Bosnia and Kosovo might see an escalation if the West uses their proxies there against Serbs.
No one will and no one will help Greece. Europe is a right off.
Just a few years ago I´d been very insulted and angry to hear “Eurorodent”, now I can only bow my head in shame for how dumb and cowardly my countrymen have become, Rodents indeed.
My boss called Russians “Nazis” today and when I showed him Azov, Aidar and “Right Sector”, I could see his brain reset and go back to “Putin is the most Hitlerite of Hitlerists and Russia is Communists and will come foR uS!!”…
Have you noticed how the US is keeping in the background and Euroscum is taking the front stage? They’re reverting to their roots. It feels like 1941 when Waffen SS was recruiting men all across Europe to fight the ‘Asiatic Hordes’ in the Eastern Front.
Always remember that the US is a puppet. It is the big kid in the playground that is manipulated by an arch narcisscist. That arch narcissist is who owns all those countries. Whether it is ultimately an individual or a group of individuals is not clear, but there is clearly a centre of control and various lines of influence radiating outward from that centre. The Straussians manipulating the US are one. Schwab’s WEF is another. The Anglo Zionists, the Big Pharma/WHO are others. America is simply muscle. This structure serves to sheild those in ultimate control from our vision, and ultimately from retribution.
Meyssan has described the Straussian link well and a previous poster has added the link above.
The puppeteer is the one funding all of the crap they engage in. Who might that be.
Interestingly the anti-covid crowd are the ones here in Australia that are most supportive of the Russian position on Ukraine. They are seeing straight thru the waves of media bullshit.
Not always so. The newish ‘United Australia Party’ is standing almost solely on an anti-vax and anti-lockdown platform, and I’d hoped they might achieve something against the Elite-puppet dual Uniparty (Labor & Liberal) we suffer under in Australia.
The UAP is run by Clive Palmer, wealthy mining businessman. You’d think he would have learned by now to distrust the MSM and dig for truth. But no… yesterday he disendorsed one of the UAP’s candidates in the coming election, solely because that candidate expressed support for President Putin and Russia’s action in Ukraine.
Dammit. So he’s just another idiot.

We are in a world war on several fronts, thank you Mr Putin and Russia for saving Kazakhstan and now Ukraine. When the Australian government falls those who replace them will end the sanctions on Russia.
Thanks Saker, been following since Maiden, this is my first post
Yes TerraHertz, he is. Did you not see that at the last federal election? He did an amazing job for the Coalition.
” Which leaves a few countries where the population is mostly pro-Russian, but the rulers afraid of Uncle Shmuel.”
Mr. Saker:
Does this also mean that, Israel Russia’s good partner, is also afraid of Uncle Shmuel ? Seems highly unlikely.
Take a look at Bidens cabinet, I doubt Israel is afraid of Uncle Shmuel. Follow the money and its even more obvious.
@Max,
Not so surprising and you should not be disappointed. The G7, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States held 31.09 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP).
The G7 is uniformly aligned against Russia. They use their economic clout to bribe governments in to supporting their position. Only China has the economic power to reverse this by supporting Russia. But to do so, my understanding is that it would open the door for independence moves in regions like Xinjiang or be at odds with what they are doing in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
However, I fully believe Russia consulted with China before announcing its move into Ukraine. China could open up a second front by taking Taiwan. This would blow the minds of the West. The USA would likely huff and puff but short of Armageddon, will basically do nothing. If China captured this island, it would create a massive change in the whole Pacific Ocean security infrastructure for the USA, Japan and other Western powers. That would be fun to see. And why not? It’s there land that the USA has illegally armed – very similar to Ukraine in that respect. Would the USA and EU declare war on China in violation of their own stated policies and treaties that recognize Taiwan as a part of China? Great question and who knows? But given their attempts to foment a color revolution in Hong Kong, we know they cannot be trusted to live up to their agreements. Saker says the West is not “agreement capable.” I totally agree (as I am agreement capable).
Take care my friend….
I remember the tension over “Formosa” as reported on radio news, in my childhood.
There was a lot of bombing and sabre rattling going on.
A Google search brings up almost nothing for “Formosa.” Almost as if it never existed.
But here is an interesting travelogue from the 1950s:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x0bassuKJ4
I have read somewhere that when the Chiang Kai-Shek crowd took over Formosa, they completely suppressed and oppressed the indigenous people. That *seems* to be supported by this travel film. It is pretty political and does highlight the difference between the “aboriginal” people of Formosa and the newcomers, who call it Taiwan.
The Saker & Kansan,
Thanks for your perspectives.
My disappointment is with Russia taking advantage of real partners (China, Syria, Iran,…) to enable & invest in fake partners (Germany, UK, Israel, Turkey,…). Majority of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund investments are in fake partners – Empire. Why did Russia make this mistake? It has been 14+ years.
Why hasn’t Russia been selling its resources in RUBLES? Why so much dependency on the Empire? Haven’t seen a good response from Vladimir Putin on the Monetary dimension in his speeches. He comes across as if he doesn’t understand the monetary stratagem. Please share if you have come across any.
China can take complete advantage of the existing situation and help Russia in many arenas. If the West put sanctions then China can threaten that it will move into Taiwan and open a second front. This way it can hopefully constrain the West.
Until, China and Russia don’t sell their resources, goods and services in their respective national currencies they’re their own worst enemy. Similarly, they will need their own payment, semiconductor and operating system ecosystem. They are handicapped in sovereignty until they develop a minimum foundation.
Is Russia still selling oil and gas to the West in their currencies ($,€, £, ¥…)? It can’t use the earned revenue. So is it giving away its resources for FREE to foes, so they can attack it?
“No enemy is worse than bad advice.”
– Sophocles
Spot on Max – – No question. Until, China and Russia don’t sell their resources, goods and services in their respective national currencies they’re their own worst enemy. Similarly, they will need their own payment, semiconductor and operating system ecosystem. They are handicapped in sovereignty until they develop a minimum foundation.
Hail fellow Kansan. If China signed a historic agreemen with Russia declaring there were no limits to our friendship just 3 or 4 weeks ago…who would ever trust them again if they let Russia down now. Plus, Russia is a major part of belt road plans.
Will Russia reset relationship with Israel …Andrei ?????
Check out how many of those voting no on Russia are also not taking part in the sanctions. That reveals the real situation.
From a source:
Here is the list of countries who both voted to censure Russia in the UNGA and have enacted sanctions.
Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States
Total of 30
Here is the list of countries that voted to censure Russia in the UNGA but have not joined the sanctions regime
Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Georgia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay
Total of 32 countries
So more countries voted against but are not sanctioning Russia can be added to the countries that voted for Russia and/or abstained. But the West will spin it the opposite way as “the world against Russia.”
Hi Richard,
Thanks for additional insights. Great value add! Appreciate it!
Saker,
While war is awful, it’s good to see progress.
It’s very strange to see just how hypocritical the USA is when dealing with this situation. For example, the “Mission Accomplished” Iraq/Afghanistan war criminal and torturer, former Republican president George W. Bush issued this statement:
“Russia’s attack on Ukraine constitutes the gravest security crisis on the European continent since World War II. I join the international community in condemning Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The American government and people must stand in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people as they seek freedom and the right to choose their own future. We cannot tolerate the authoritarian bullying and danger that Putin poses. Ukraine is our friend and democratic ally and deserves our full support during this most difficult time.”
Nauseating understates my reaction. Yet the American people applaud and jump on board the bandwagon.
I do wish Russia would enter into economic measures designed to punish the west. So far it has not throttled down energy supplies (from what I can tell). Nor has it announced that it will throttle down supplies of raw materials to Western economies and businesses. Nor has it announced it has seized all Western assets within Russia. I’m not sure why they are not more aggressive with this. I believe they must be calculating the cost/benefit of such moves, but any information you can provide on this topic would be helpful.
I did read that EU weapons shipments pose a danger of a widening conflict between Russia and NATO. Furthermore, Russian officials have warned that such a confrontation WILL lead to nuclear war. What do you believe the Russian military can do to police these shipments? It seems its flank in western Ukraine is exposed.
I also would like you to let us know your impression of what is going on on the ground. Is the Russian military meeting your expectations? If so, how? If not, how? I’m reading that Russia has not committed the full strength of its military and is instead holding a substantial in reserve. Is this to guard against NATO?
Thanks again for everything you do Saker.
Drinking game for Alcoholics Anonymous:
Take a shot every time Western media mentions:
1) Civilian casualties/refugees from the Donbass over the past 8 years and in this war
2) The LDNR’s reaction to recognition from Russia
3) The background and cessation of the Crimean water blockade
4) Origins and activities of the Azov Battalion
5) Western Ukraine’s role in WW2
6) Zelensky’s off-shore accounts and properties
Enjoy!
You want me to be sober? :)
He’s cruel, but funny.
Fantastic sense of humor, at a time it’s most needed. Thanks.
I changed the game to email my friends, some of whom are less aware.
With a tip of the hat, here’s my remake:
Drinking game for Alcoholics Anonymous
Take a shot every time Western broadcast media mentions:
1) Civilian casualties/refugees from the Donbass over the past 8 years.
2) Origins and activities of the Azov Battalion or any of the several
other Nazi battalions in the Ukraine. You have to drink if the
media even mentions the Nazi symbols they wear. but showing the
swastika or wolfsangel on-camera without saying what it is, does
not count for a drink.
3) The crimes of the Ukrainian Nazis 1941-1945 such as killing 250,000
Jews and Poles in a single massacre. Wikipedia does not count:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacres_of_Poles_in_Volhynia_and_Eastern_Galicia
4) That elected President Yanukovitch was deposed by a Washington
orchestrated coup d’etat in 2014.
5) Anything about what Victoria Nuland was doing in Kiev in 2014.
If they say ” passing out cookies” and nothing more, no drink.
6) The eight billionaire oligarchs who own Ukraine. Note: Just saying
names like Poroshenko, Kolmoisky, etc. isn’t enough for a drink.
The media has to actually mention how they run the country.
Enjoy!
Another great source of humor is Pepe Escobar, his most recent
interview, posted on the Vineyard. He’s into ROFL, howling at
the Empire Of Lies, destroying its own future with sanctions.
Western strategic thought ….
Step 1) Get America bogged down in a quagmire by believing in The Domino Theory which said that if Vietnam fell, Los Angeles would be next.
Step 2) Zig Brzezinski gets the brilliant idea of giving the Soviets ‘their own Vietnam’ in Afghanistan, and begins the process of arming jihadists to create this situation.
Step 3) After jihadists attack America, America invades Afghanistan, leading to a 20 year quagmire and eventual ignominious defeat as the American built Afgan Army can’t hold even long enough to let the Americans run away.
Step 4) Now the geniuses in DC get the bright idea of giving the Russians ‘their own Afghanistan’ by arming fascists in Ukraine.
9-11 was not an attack by jihadists. It was a false flag by US deep state and Israeli operatives for the purpose of justifying the invasion and conquest of all the countries that worried Israel: Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Iran…
The Russian intervention prevented success in Syria, and that is where the American plan got bogged down…
Moslem jihadists never attacked america. The destruction of the world trade center and the accounting section of the pentagon was almost entirely carried out by people with american citizenship, israeli citizenship, and dual american-israeli citizenship.
Step 3: “After Israel attacks America”
There, fixed it for you. Search ‘dancing Israelis’ and follow the chain.
+Saker
Seems this Colonel is reading your Daily summaries of the war. Exactly what you have been saying. That or that is what the Pentagon ALREADY knows that but wont say it, and Col McGregor is a lone voice among liars. Maybe both

McGregor understands the score
He just MUST be a “Putin agent”…
No other possibility, none
THANK YOU SAKER!!!!
What a shame Russia has had to once again bear the costs of de-nazifying Europe. 500 dead in a week is a hard loss, and there will be more losses to come if they are to complete the operation. But it is plain to everyone they are determined to complete it.
May all these brave heroes rest in peace. May their souls bask in the sunlight of heaven and may they take comfort in the eternal glory of the creation.
May the light of the Creator guide them on their path towards victory over these evil and dark forces dividing this planet at this time.
What happens if Russia takes Eastern Ukraine and there is no surrender or agreement? West will continue supporting the armed insurgency and will not let Ukraine surrender. Russia will be stuck with a frozen conflict and no respite from sanctions. I don’t see a solution to that scenario.
Well, stay tuned and we shall see. :)
Could you put a distance scale on these maps? It would help.
If you call up Google Maps you have a scale and also a “distance measuring” tool.
Some disorganized thoughts:
On the issue of sanctions/economic war, two important things to remember:
1. the higher the price of energy, the more money Russia makes. The Ruble may have dropped by 30-40% or whatever the fluctuating # currently is, but price of oil is up 500% from last year (yes it was as low as $20/bbl and is now skyrocketing to $115 and some expect to even go $150-200. That means Russia’s oil revenues are literally quadrupling, and that is not even counting gas and coal which Russia is also world leading supplier and are now skyrocketing…so any money lost via currency depreciation is being made up vastly with huge energy profits.
There ARE potential risks/downsides to this though. One expert’s analysis is that pressure will continue building to completely cut off Russian oil purchases (global embargoes etc), and I believe we’re already seeing that with global companies scared to order more oil as they believe it will be sanctioned in future. There are contracts that already have ordered certain amount and they must and are being fulfilled, but there is risk within 2-3 months or so after Russia finishes shipping off already purchased contracts, then oil orders may dry up. Of course Russia can and probably is redirecting much of that to China and other eastern nations but there is no telling how much of that potential loss Russia can cover with export substitution.
2. Secondly, about currency war and Ruble depreciation. You must remember that Russia is a surplus economy that exports more than it imports, this means unlike the U.S. and every single Western country, its own native currency is more relevant in daily life. Countries which are trade deficit countries are IMPORTING things from other countries and have to price those things via currency exchanges of the other country. So if their own currency devaluates that means they are now taking a huge profit loss $$$ and losing money. But since Russia exports way more than it imports, that means they are not losing that much $$$ because all of its internal goods are manufactured at home and purchased in rubles. If you make something with rubles and purchase it with rubles, the “value” of the ruble compared to USD/etc makes no difference, it is irrelevant. The exchange rate only matters if you’re buying foreign goods priced in other currencies and now have to exchange much MORE of your rubles for the same amount of foreign currency that it took to exchange the previous day.
So in short, Russia is quite protected from ‘economic doom’ so far on every front.
@Nightvision,
Good points. I’d say to your first point, should the West cut off purchases of Russian fossil fuels, as long as they can sell enough to make up for the lost revenue (they may not make up for the number of barrels, but as you point out, the price of each fuel is going up), they do not have to worry as much about quantity sold. Demand for energy under these circumstances is relatively inelastic to price.
Also to your first point, it does not good for Russia to make money on this crisis (which they are doing) if they’re not making sure that some of it is given to Russian households. Redistribution of these energy profits should be widespread across the entire Russian citizenry.
Your second point is spot on. In-country purchasing value is unaffected by a change in the ruble on world markets. Only import prices are affected.
In short, all of these economic moves will affect the pampered Proles and Masters of the West, and the outcry against their own governments will be more significant than anything that will happen domestically in Russia.
Exactly. If oil is 5x higher than last year, then if you sell 5x LESS barrels you’re still making the same $$$$ and aren’t losing any money…
And funny enough, the more that U.S. cuts Russian oil (and adds sanctions) the higher the oil price goes up…so each time U.S. takes out a chunk of Russian profits, that same chunk returns via higher global prices…LOL!
it does not good for Russia to make money on this crisis (which they are doing) if they’re not making sure that some of it is given to Russian households. Redistribution of these energy profits should be widespread across the entire Russian citizenry. –
You are exactly on spot, this is the most crucial point.
The Democratic Humanitarian BlaBla West is betting on “send those Russkijs into despair an they’ll oppose evil Putin” – just f**k up this strategy and make “these Russkijs” feel: “what Sanctions-Of-Hell they are talking about??”.
Russia should emulate Iran’s and Brazil’s trading strategy — barter.
https://irandaily.ir/News/320375.html
“Iran is likely to step up corn imports from Brazil, with a urea cargo about to set off for the South American country next week under a barter arrangement.
Iran sources 60% of its corn supplies from Brazil and the rest from Ukraine and Russia. It could import 100% of its needs from Brazil if the conflict between the east European neighbors persists, Head of Iran-Brazil Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture Fakhreddin Amerian said, Press TV reported.
“The barter of urea as fertilizer with livestock input from Brazil starts next week when a urea shipment will be sent and corn will be imported in exchange,” he noted.”
Russia and China are ideally located for a set-up like this. Russia needs more manufactured whatevers and China manufactures them. China needs more oil and natural gas and Russia has lots of oil and natural gas. Russian oligarch and Chinese oligarch have a short telephone call in which the amount of oil to be traded for the amount of whatevers is negotiated. Deal done. Oil pipelined. Whatevers shipped by rail. The two parties are satisfied. No “money”/”currency” involved. No banks or other financial parasites involved. What could be simpler?
@Ishkabibble –
Exactly.
Which is why in previous posts I argued that Russia should come to terms with China for a barter arrangement – state of the art naval vessels in exchange for energy and technical know-how. These vessels could include surface ship of all kinds up to nuclear powered aircraft carriers.
China is now the world’s leading ship-builder. Russia used to source its ships from Ukraine, and later France. Both of these were mistakes, IMO. Now they are tacit allies with China. It’s time to put that to good use.
Floating targets are only good for territorial defense. Russia does not need a force projection navy, just a nuclear deterrent (subs).
Russia will not repeat the mistakes of the USSR (indirect economic attrition) by trying to achieve force parity with the west. In face it is the west that is now suffering this fate – brought on by themselves- and by all measures the US is bankrupt.
Some more disorganized thoughts:
1. European spot prices for natural gas are already reaching record highs:
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Gas-Prices/Europes-Gas-Prices-Soar-60-To-Record-High-As-Buyers-Shun-Russia.html
This source writes that Russian gas is not sought after on the spot market ’cause of Ukraine, hence the high prices despite Russia fulfilling its long-term delivery obligations.
2. German car manufacturer BMW has had to stop production at at least one of its plants because parts from Ukraine do not get delivered anymore. Other car manufactures are expected to follow. Reports speak of stoppages that may run into the weeks until alternative suppliers are found.
3. The French minister of the economy has apparently toned down his prior, extremely belligerent rhetoric towards Russia. He has been quoted as saying that actually no one wanted an economic war with Russia.
4. Zerohedge has written a complicated article on the role played by the Russian central bank in the money markets:
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/pozsar-warns-another-lehman-weekend-russia-sanctions-may-trigger-central-bank-liquidity
The Russian central bank plays a larger role than many would believe, apparently.
All of this is painting a picture of the West feeling some significant ecoomic pain already.
BMW’s are for relatively wealthy folk. Here in the UK the only growth is soup-kitchens, long lines, getting longer. Citizens/families decide between food and heat. Let’s consider the real world and not fake Stawk Meerkats which are of zero concern to 80-90% of Plebs.
UK/Europe are tanking long before Russia.
Yes, but working at BMW is for ordinary people. BMW is a huge industrial employer mainly in Southern Germany. Moreover, if BMW shuts down, then just-in-time supply chains mean that suppliers cannot deliver their parts, so they must also shut down. BMW can claim force majeure on them (What, if not a major war started by Vladimir Putin, counts as force majeure?), so they have no recourse. The bigger car manufacturers like Volkswagen have also been mentioned in connection with the shortage of parts from Eastern Europe. The car industry is the backbone of Germany’s economy. Knock-on effects on the workforce can be huge and can easily have political ramifications.
But working at BMW is for ordinary people. They are a medium-sized car manufacturer with a very large workforce mainly in Southern Germany. If BMW shuts down, then many suppliers may also have to shut down because BMW can claim force majeure on them. The larger manufacturers like Volkswagen have been mentioned, too, in the reporting about shortages of parts from Ukraine. They write that stoppages may last for weeks until alternative suppliers are found.
This conversation is going off-topic. Please take elsewhere. Mod.
Crazy Canadians signing up to fight in the Ukraine. Someone is making money.
There are quite a few Canadian Nazis, their grandfathers from the Galizian SS were settled there after the war, they even have monuments to Bandera in some Canadian Cities, don’t know what WW2 Canadian vets think about that, they lost quite a few fighting Nazis in Europe.
And, in the meantime, tens of thosands of people including many Russian patriots have died, and as we speak thousands are just about to die thanks to a man “who started it all” (his own words). He is having his 91st birthday. Happy birthday comrade. I really can’t wrap my mind around this.

I do wonder what Putin and Gorbachev say when they have a chat.
In any event, Putin does the right thing by Gorbie.
There is a lot we don’t know about Gorbie, but I expect he did what he thought was right.
Remember how optimistic everyone was?
All ruined by the greedy, unscrupulous West.
Still pal, even 8th grade know to get shit in writing.
I know US agreements are worth nothing but you can wave it in front of the UN. Mind you they’re also hopeless but you get my drift.
If Putin/Russia had waited another year then the conversation could be different.
It’s all upwards now for Russia, they got food and energy in abundance and can look after themselves better than anyone else. Trust me, energy bills and food prices are up 25% here in the UK. even my mrs on the way out of the door to work shouts, do you need the heating on while in bed and I shout, how the hell am I supposed to drink my beer. Door slams! Click on Saker to see if Mr Kinzhal might visit in the near future.
I just had a billet doux from British Gas to let me know that our fuel bills will more than double from April 1st. I’d write to my MP, but I don’t want to give her something to smile about.
“Still pal, even 8th grade know to get shit in writing.”
True as far as it goes, but the USA violates written agreements whenever it pleases, therefore . . .

odd that it’s still up. i downloaded a 1080p copy just in case. (from a nice site called y2mate.com – useful if stand-alone video download apps give you grief.)
found very little about the 14 killed at the school and what happened to the 300 or so kids. as with most of these events, it will be long after ceasefire before the real footage and stories come out.
I have dire forebodings for the future because if Russia achieves all its objectives in Ukraine, the West will not accept it, and the simplest way of not accepting it is to escalate to Armageddon.
I know that the divide between good and evil runs though every human heart but – as a westerner – I can see the great evil that ahs engulfed the West.
The love of money is the root of all evil.

Massive informational war…the lies are getting debunked though..(I just watched Paul Joseph Watson)… but too many are still hysterical (you’d think after all the wars, Covid disinformation, people had wisened up, but no). This is going to take some time…
When all you have is talk , you talk; let them talk.
When the lights go and stomachs rumble, 5 Eyes & vassaldoms will come calling.
Also the New York sees the obvious implication of sending weapons to Ukraine:
“But whether European weaponry will continue to reach the Ukrainian battlefield in time to make a difference is far from certain. However proud Brussels is of its effort, it is a strategy that risks encouraging a wider war and possible retaliation from Mr. Putin. The rush of lethal military aid into Ukraine from Poland, a member of NATO, aims, after all, to kill Russian soldiers.” https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/02/world/europe/nato-weapons-ukraine-russia.html
Also, if the Russian oligarchs are attacked or ransacked because they are Russians, it could cause their government to defend them. The Jews had their property confiscated in Nazi Germany only because they were Jews. It’s a radical thing to do; it looks like a hormonal decision (as people say in Spanish) rather than a meditated one.
Thank you for the updates!
I saw a comment in a Telegram thread attributed to Kadyrov about Chechen terrorists who had caused problems in Chechnya and later been taken in by the West and were now operating in Ukraine. It sounded like that was why the Chechens were there, for payback for what the terrorists had done in Chechnya.
I am not at all familiar with any of the background around this. Are there Chechens working for the Ukro-nazis and is that why Kadyrov’s soldiers are there?
The more I see here, the more I realize how little I know about this part of the world.
There is some chatter out there that mistakes were made on the northern front in a “mad dash” towards Kiev from the North East, which resulted in excess casualties as defenses were spread too thin, and now the forces are re-grouping and bulking up; circling the wagons so to speak. I’m very curious if this chatter has a point or not by someone with some expertise on the subject. Spasibo!
It’s not a mistake, it’s called taking a calculated risk. There’s something in military called “initiative”. These amateurs on twitter have no clue what the concept is, but it’s the reason Ukraine is falling and Russia is winning.
What will be the implications of this?

Nothing. Nada. Nil.
All it shows is Zone A control over its vasals.
The vassals have to march in lockstep to show their allegiance to the puppet master.
It will not affect Russia’s decision to take the security of Russia in her own hands.
It will not have any effect on the security operation taking place in Ukraine.
The UN has proven once more it is a tool for Zone A to justify the empire’s policies of oppresion, pillage and exploitation on weaker countries. No matter how many votes against Russia, they cannot do anything to damage Russia’s integrity.
Lone Wolf
The only significance is if the US and NATO take it as a sign that they have some more “legitimacy” than they did by ignoring the UN in the Serbia conflict and decide to intervene more in Ukraine either directly or via NATO “proxies”.
This will be very risky if they try it. I doubt Russia will fall for any traps, but it depends on what actually happens. IF something serious happens against Russia and they are forced to respond directly, this is the primary path to WWIII.
Hopefully they will realize that Russia is not Serbia (and after all, most of Serbia’s military survived the months long bombing) and not try it.
So, obviously I don’t think this is going to happen but Greenwald was just commenting on how the calls for a ‘no fly zone’ are growing louder.
Pray tell, how do you accomplish this when the military that you are trying to enforce against has far superior air defense systems than you have?
It strikes me that if (and obviously I think it is more talk than anything else) but if they are stupid enough to attempt this, we’re going to be walking right into a nuclear exchange.
“Dave Deptula, a retired Air Force lieutenant general who commanded Operation Northern Watch in 1998 and 1999, said each Iraqi no-fly zone typically had about 50 U.S. and allied aircraft on hand, to fly patrols a couple hours each day. Flying around the clock would have taken much more, he said.
Flying around-the-clock air patrols over Ukraine — a nation that covers more than twice the area of the Iraqi no-fly zones — would easily take hundreds of fighters, said Deptula, now dean of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies.
It would also mean thousands of airmen across multiple bases to fuel, arm and maintain these fighters — not to mention a significant aerial refueling infrastructure to keep them in the air, and ISR aircraft such as the AWACS.
The Iraqi no-fly zone came after that nation’s air force, defenses and command and control were all but wiped out — a situation that doesn’t exist in Ukraine. A no-fly zone there would require a significant suppression of enemy air defense, or SEAD, effort to take out Russian defenses such as the highly capable S-400 surface-to-air missile system, likely with F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightning IIs.
But the U.S. or NATO would very likely lose aircraft in such a mission, Venable said — and trying to rescue downed pilots in such a volatile region would test the limits of the military’s combat search-and-rescue capability.”
Agreed, I think a ‘no fly zone’ is mostly lip service from people who don’t know the logistics of practically implementing it; especially against an adversary who is not only capable of shooting back, but most assuredly will.
Did those idiots factor in the bases they launch attacks from will come under attack? and that means aircraft carriers.
Or as I like to refer to them, ‘overpriced fish habitats’.
RFLOMAO Gonna remember that one!
An israeloamerican/nato attempt to enforce a no fly zone against Russia in the ukraine will usher in nuclear ww3. There is no way around that.
@ Saker
A big thank you for all your work, and for the War Crimes report.
I will distribute to as many people as I can, and will ask them to send it to others.
Absolutely necessary to keep records of the beasts the war criminal US neocons unleashed on the people of Donbass. Thousands of innocent people killed are the direct result of the neocon policies around the world, the suffering people of Donbass being one more in a long list of their war crimes and atrocities.
May Allah give Russia the strenght, the steadfastness, and the fortitude to brandish the sword of Al Haqq, Truth and Justice, punish the perpetrators of these crimes, so these innocent victims can rest in peace.

I have sent a link of the War Crimes Report to the BBC Sports department, asking for their £1.7m a year ‘self-employed contractor’ for his comments. I don’t expect to hear them, the man is a prostitute, but at least that can be used as evidence against him subsequently, when his never ending flagrant breach of BBC reporting neutrality, enshrined in its charter, has finally brought him before a well-deserved tribunal.
English football is now the ‘Hitler Youth’, with weekly ‘taking the knee’ for the BLM storewindow-smashing criminals; ‘Ukraine is a sweet innocent little lamb’ nonsense nowadays.
Not one of them is doing anything but saying ‘Heil Hitler! Zu Befehl, mein Kommandant!’
Discerning brains were long ago banned from the Corporation.
You information on the war is one of the few sane comments and remarks that are coming from a media world that has become increadibly shameless. There presstitute media does not make sense even to a fool. “Ukraine still controls the sky” they say, and yet there is a Russian miltary column stretching fifty miles, some say kilometres. Why cant those planes attack it. One of arm chair generals from the UK said they Ukienazis were saving the planes for the battle of Keiv. There are people who follow this site in Africa. Just like the Nazis and Von Trotter before them leading the extermination of the Herero people in Namibia, the Ukienazi are also vehemently against African people or people of color. I found this interview of the so called democracy now on youtube.

A few bits from Chinese social media today:
1.The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a document on the history of U. S. genocide against Native Americans on their official website. Currently trending on Weibo, and being promoted by People’s Daily and other major media accounts. Yesterday, a recent documentary about U. S. military experiments on Danish children during the 1960s was one of the major trending items. looks like the Chinese press, usually a bastion of libs, are finally being made to do some actual work (instead of conducting sabotage as they have done in the past).
https://weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404742549536375407 (Chinese original source)
2. A number of hot topics about the West’s hysterical sanctions against everything Russian: classical music, Dostoyevsky, athletes (in particular the amazing Russian girls in figure skating, who recently made a tremendous impression on the Chinese public during the Winter Olympics), cats(!!!)… Uniform reaction of outrage and disgust from Chinese social media users.
3. Enthusiastic shoppers have cleaned out the Russian embassy’s official “Russia” online store. 200K new fans in one day. Other online stores for Russian products report similar jumps in business. People are supporting Russia with their wallets:
https://www.guancha.cn/politics/2022_03_02_628458.shtml (Chinese news)
4. The Canadians just had to jump out with blue-and-yellow “We stand with Ukraine” signs on their Beijing embassy wall. Spray-painted with “F**k NATO” within one day:
https://twitter.com/CarlZha/status/1498992952609099778
One thing that’s missing from today’s discussion is the extreme censorship the “freedom of speech” “democracies” are deploying against Russian media. Very sad but more hypocrisy from the Empire of Lies should have been expected. This article by Caitlan Johnstone says it much better than I could:
https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2022/03/02/defending-freedom-and-democracy-sure-requires-an-awful-lot-of-censorship/
Excerpt from link:
“Kremlin-backed media outlets have been banned throughout the European Union, both on television and on apps and online platforms. RT has lost its Sky TV slot in the UK, where the outlet is also blocked on YouTube. Australian TV providers SBS and Foxtel have dropped RT, and the federal government is putting pressure on social media platforms to block Russian media in Australia.
In the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Latvia, speaking in support of the Russian invasion of Ukraine will get you years in prison.”
Excerpt from link:
“The purge of RT and other Russian media outlets in the US and Europe is 100% censorship,” tweets journalist Michael Tracey. “Go ahead and argue it’s justified, but at least don’t be a coward and admit you are advocating censorship.”
“The western world believes that it has a monopoly on what constitutes ‘political truth’ and that their ideological worldview is the only correct, valid and authoritative one,” writer and analyst Tom Fowdy observed. “They preach freedom of speech and the press to other countries, but exempt themselves from it.”
And I can’t help but find it odd that the fight for freedom and democracy should require such copious amounts of censorship. You’d think a free society would have no objection to people trying to learn the other side of the debate about a war which NATO powers very plainly had a hand in starting, rather than being forced to consume only western mass media narratives which tell us this is happening exclusively because Vladimir Putin is evil and Hitlery and hates freedom.
this only benefits Russia, in my opinion, because it gives Russia cassus belli to retaliate by banning their own western slime MSM which will preserve Russia’s culture and lessen the effect western propaganda has. For instance Hollywood announcing they will not show their movies in Russian market. Huge win for Russia if you ask me. Less diseased Hollyweirdo smut polluting Russian culture. Whereas the West will lose “truth” by not having Russian media angle, but who cares about the West? Let them choke in their own self-created misery.
Appears an official Ukr Armed Forces account says they will no longer take prisoners but will “slaughter” all surrendering troops. I suppose the human rights councils currently meeting to admonish Russia will ignore this rank admission of war crimes, as per usual

https://www.facebook.com/usofcom/posts/3212999028931719
Works for Russia. Means that the time limit for the surrender offer to Ukie units will be shortened by some hours. And any response like Bastogne’s “Nuts!” will result in some TOS-1. Plus, of course Russians will just fight harder.
It’s never smart in war to say that you’re going to do “criminal” things to your enemy – especially if your enemy is more powerful than you. You can do them – just don’t get caught doing them. Because then it gets done to you.
Can you confirm that Russia destroyed only AN-225 Mriya in Ukraine? That would be sad I think.
Take this with a grain of salt because I am not fully certain, but my understanding is that the Russians hold the airport where the AN-225 was, and there has been shelling from the Ukrainian side. So it’s more likely that it was caused by the Ukrainians.
No, there’s pretty conclusive new satellite photos that show the hangar and an-225 destroyed and the maker Antonov themselves officially tweeted that the plane is gone
Thank you for the maps! I have used the ukr.net sources up until now (where 95% is obvious prolefeed), but the map on Wikipedia outright stopped being updated 2 days ago, so here I am. Is your map from Podoliaka/Onufriyenko, or do you draw them yourself?
“3. Near Donetsk positionka. The APU attack (sortie) on Gorlovka did not yield results, both sides suffered losses. The shelling of the territory of the DPR continues.”
I read somewhere that Western experts are surprised that the Russian air-force was underused. It has not stopped that shelling.
Referring to Odessa, point 12 says, “…The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asks Zelensky to achieve a pause in hostilities, since the city is not covered from the land direction and is not ready to repel the attack of Russian columns bypassing Nikolaev from the north…”
Unusual request. It would mean that the army’s General Staff is suggesting to their president the idea of surrendering, even a general surrender. The fact that other cities are in dire straits too, only gives added weight to this surrender meaning.
Of course, the situation of the men of this General Staff is very different from Zelensky’s situation and they know that. Zelensky has the difficulty of coming to terms with his role in what happened. They don’t. If they are asking for a decision to surrender, a rational decision in war, and he orders a battle to the last man let’s say, then the Generals could perhaps decide that the country and their duty call for a military coup. A military coup after a Russian invasion has always been the more likely scenario (surely the reason Russia labeled it a “special military operation” instead of calling it “war”), and it becomes more likely in time. Indeed, based on what we see, they should already surrender to avoid deaths among civilians in vain.
Since the new green anti russian government in Germany came to power the Anti Russian actions and propaganda has been brought up to a new level.
Putin can not trust the new german government.
The negotiatons and ceasefire only service Ukraine to buy the time and regroup their forces.
@Lazar,
A ceasefire should only be initiated once Russia has secured the borders of the Ukraine IMO. This means that EU attempts to ship weapons to a reconstituted Ukrainian military are cut off. Furthermore, Russia must accomplish its mission of deNazification and demilitarization of Ukraine. This includes destroying the 12 or so NATO-supported bioweapons labs, all of its military infrastructure, the capture and imprisonment of all Nazis, and the establishment of a new government that at the very least agrees to neutrality and non-NATO membership or to a pro-Russian viewpoint.
Zelinsky should be permitted to leave the country and set up a Ukraine in exile he wants to. But Ukraine should be under new leadership.
The German government consists of newbies. People who rose through the parties but never had real responsibilities. I have some hope that as they grow more experienced they will get a better understanding of Germany’s real interests.
The chancellor is an exception. He used to be the mayor/chief minister of the federal state of Hamburg (about 2 million inhabitants), followed by serving as the minister of finance under Merkel. So he does have some experience, tough not in an international arena. His particular weakness is that he has been implicated in a major corruption affair that went down during his time in Hamburg. It can be assumed that nearly all cabinet-level German politician have some hidden dirty laundry that opens them up to blackmail – otherwise, they wouldn’t be allowed to be in the positions they occupy – but in his case the dirty laundry is so obvious for everyone to see that he is easy pickings. So he does everything to keep the atlanticist media happy. He is also very vile. Not only did he say that it was laughable to speak of a genocide in the Donbass. Later on he said that Putin had freed Germans of their historical guilt.
What I don’t understand is why the Ukrainians didn’t plan for the development of the cauldron in the East. This seems like an obvious Russian move. It isn’t as if the Ukrainians didn’t witness cauldrons in their earlier battles with the separatists. Do the Ukrainian generals want to lose?
The area is not as susceptible to becoming a ‘cauldron’ as you think. The vast land needed to connect the ‘cauldron’ is like the size of some european countries. This land cannot be swiftly connected any time soon so I don’t think Ukies are too worried about it becoming a cauldron yet. RF forces in the north are not even striking out for it yet and the South is busy with Mariupol, don’t expect the ‘cauldron’ to form any time soon. And in fact due to the vastness of the front, to form the cauldron would be extremely dangerous for the troops on the western salient because they will now be exposed to two sides west/east of Ukr fire as reinforcements could easily put them under fire from areas east of the Dniper river. And the surrounding frontline would have to be so massively long and thin that they would be susceptible to destruction from both sides. It’s not as easy as you think.
But it’s hard to judge accurately because we don’t know where EXACTLY the Ukr troop concentrations are in the Donbas. We know the general region but it stretches vastly into thousands of square kilometers. So we don’t know exactly how wide the cauldron would have to be or how far west the LOC would need to be established to close it.
Interesting– thanks. Maybe the Russians will attack their supply lines.
Personal feeling. Russia is not looking for a quick cease-fire. It will end the operation as it wants. A way to underline the impotence of NATO.
I tend to agree. I think they are going to do it their way and will stop when they are satisfied.
Hy guys,
I’m french, so excuse my english.
I have noticed that everybody, since the beginning of the War, focus on Ukraine.
The entire World focus on Ukraine.
Saker himself focus on Ukraine, and things are going so fast that the eagle, right now, is not in the Sky, he’s on the ground.
I would like to propose you to go in the Sky. Look at things from the Sky.
What really want Putin?
Free Ukraine from nazis and stop the dombass génocide ? Seriously ? You really think that? You really think that Putin will take all that risk for… That?? Be serious my Friends.
We speak about global strategy.
What really want Putin ?
He want to change the order of the World. He want to take down USA from the first place.
Who want the same thing?
China.
So… I offer you a mind exercise.
What do you think Putin and Xi discussed recently? At the JO ?
Yeah, you’re right, they spoke about the global strategy. The plan. Made Long Time ago.
The Time has Come for russia and China.
The Time to take the first place.
So, why Ukraine War?
Sorry guys, but for me, Ukraine is just a diversion.
A Big one, i agree.
The first step of a much more vast plan.
Why?
Put all the attention on it.
The ennemy is not Ukraine. The ennemy is USA and Europe.
So, what should we see soon?
No more gas for Europe (Putin and Xi just signed a new pipeline), and a move from China.
May be Taiwan.
Good move, no more semiconductors for USA.
This year, two nations stopped to export fertilizers and DEF (adblue). Guess who?
Russia and China.
No more food for USA and Europe.
So, my Friends, if you want to understand Putin, wich is a wise and smart man, stop focus on Ukraine.
Take an eagle eye, and you will see… The puzzle being assembled. And Ukraine is just a diversion.
China has no need to take Taiwan by force , it will destroy all that “floating coffins ” in the China’s sea. But there was more in the agreement by Russia and China, and Russia is free to do what it has to do. After that Zion is/NATO will have to draw back to 1997 borders, or be ringed with nuclear misses, and be squeezed with every shortage imaginable.
Zelensky elected by Russian speakers but controlled by fascists is obviously zionist. Imagine if the only way he thought he could remove neoNazis was to invite Russia in, with sane Yankees on board. Murder & destruction for the least worst to win, and make Russia the fool as the bonus. What a con, for the money it makes, innocence be dammed.
The RF, no matter their oligarchs, made a mistake accepting the zionist state, a state of destruction that does never accept losers whoever they are.
Putin may circle Kiev with tanks, but he’ll never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people.
Come on man :P
May God have mercy on the souls of all those heroes who died in this “police action” against the West backed Nazi oppressors. May their families have patience and courage to deal with their loss. Amen.
May God grant all those heroes who are injured to recover fully.
May God give perseverance to the Russian people now and the coming trials ahead. May God strengthen the resolve of noble President Putin and the Russian leaderships to continue on the path of righteousness.
Russia is morally correct in this conflict against the combined West. And she will be victorious eventually.
Glad tidings for those oppressed world masses who were waiting for the emergence of a new “just” world order.
Best wishes to The Saker and this wonderful community. WM.
Here’s Paul Craig Roberts’s latest column, just in case anyone hasn’t read it yet. IMO, Roberts is indeed a venerable “Grand Old Man” when it comes to international and domestic politics, and (of course) everything concerning economics. A truly wonderful person.
Personally, I find it very comforting to know that someone of Roberts’s stature is telling the truth about Russia at a time when almost everyone else in Western civilization is trying to destroy, slander, and demonize the entire Russian World.
https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2022/03/01/ukraine-update-3/
Let’s all keep in mind that Russia is fighting a just war. Russia is defending itself against the existential threat of expanding US/NATO political power. The West started this war with its brazen gambit to turn Ukraine into a base which could be used to subvert Russia’s security. Any great power in Russia’s position would be doing exactly as Russia is doing now: striking back militarily to defeat and neutralize that threat.
The US-led West is trying to reduce Russia to the level of a vassal in international affairs. There should be no denying this reality. America is now leveraging every single weapon in its arsenal against Russia: economic, financial, geopolitical, diplomatic, public relations/media, and possibly even cultural. Ukraine is just providing US/NATO with human resources to fight and die in lieu of US/NATO troops.
Remember: if not for Russia’s nuclear arsenal, then US/NATO would have invented an excuse to militarily invade Russia by now. That is simply the truth.
Earlier today there was a video circulating on twitter of Azov battalion supposedly crucifying people (‘pro-russian’ citizens in Mariupol, supposedly) and burning them alive on crosses. The videos were taken down, now articles starting to appear on it proving their existence.
Azov battalion seems to be living up to its name as inhuman villains

There was a date of 25/4/2015 on that pic, so that atrocity happened 7 years ago?
Prominent presstitutes working for the Western propaganda machine are now forced to drink their poison soup!
Here’s a tweet from Michael Schwirtz, who writes for the New York Times:
“Kherson has fallen to the Russian military, becoming the first major Ukrainian city to come under Russian control since the invasion last week. The mayor, Igor Kolykhaev, told me he met today with the Russian commander who plans to set up a military administration.”

… and, they say the Nazi’s are a myth ……..
Found at “Moon of Alabama”:
“Emergency statement of the official representative of the People’s Militia of the DPR at 15.30 02.03.2022”
According to operational information received in the city of Mariupol, on the territory of the Azov-Stal plant, the commander of a separate special forces detachment “Azov” of 12 armored units of the National Guard of Ukraine is preparing for a mass provocation with the death of civilians. For this purpose, the civilian population is brought into the territory of the Azov-Steel plant, which is placed in mined workshops and office premises. Military equipment is placed in the courtyard of the enterprise. In the event of a breakthrough in the defense of the city of Mariupol by units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the nationalists plan to blow up the plant’s buildings, with further accusation of the Russian side of destroying civilians and civilian infrastructure with artillery fire.
In the basement and premises of school No. 34 on 17 Gastelo Street, more than 60 civilians are forcibly detained, of which more than half are women and children. All civilians who tried to leave the city through the provided humanitarian corridors are forcibly brought to the school. According to information from the teachers of the Priazov State Technical University, located along Universitetskaya Street, 7, militants from the Azov unit began to mine the building, as well as the approaches to it with controlled explosive devices.

Dear Andrei,
Thanks so much for all the work of you and your colleagues. Your sane voice helps ease the stress of living in a world that has gone bonkers.
For a broader perspective, consider reading today’s post by J. M. Greer: https://www.ecosophia.net/the-revolt-of-the-imagination-part-three-co-creating-the-future/.
Regarding Eternal Memory, check out these two sites:

Both versions are very lovely and very moving.
Very, very bad news for the people of Odessa. Zelensky just fired Odessa’s civilian governor and replaced him with with hard-core Nazi Maxim Marchenko. That means Zelensky wants Odessa to go down like Berlin 1945, fighting until the last Nazi solider is killed. The collateral damage could be high if Russian soldiers are compelled to liberate this city street-by-street, house-by-house.
This tweet was just released by independent journo Mark Ames, whose reporting is anti-establishment and generally reliable.
“Also a bad sign that Zelensky replaced civilian governor of Odessa with Maxym Marchenko, ex-commander of the far-right Aidar Battalion, subject of an Amnesty war crimes report in 2014.
This war is a godsend for ghouls everywhere.”

Sounds like pie in the sky, I don’t think Putin is much concerned with ‘saving face’ where the collective west is concerned.
Yes the mask has slipped and the face of the self appointed free World is very ugly indeed,i am in the UK RT was taken down today,i can get it on the computer.

Another easy download link for the document : The Truth Behind Events in Ukraine and Donbass
https://saker.community/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/The-Truth-Behind-Events-in-Ukraine-and-Donbass.pdf
I’m new here and don’t want to do a single thing that isn’t helpful so I’m asking to make sure; is it ok to post that link on my facebook page, amarynth? I’ve already downloaded it, and the other one Saker asked us above to download and share. I cried looking at the murdered people in Donbass. I’m a little old lady in Iowa and one of the victims looked a whole lot like me and suddenly I just lost it. I am praying that China stays strong with Russia and together they usher in a better world. I want to say thanks to everybody for all the info, all the great links, I’m trying to help by sharing. I’ve been subscribed to Voltaire for some time and that Theirry Meisen piece on the Straussians – wow, such an eye opener. I read at BlackAgendaReport and ConsortiumNews, too – both have been great trying to expose the propaganda and get people to wake up and question the narrative they’re being fed by the CIA’s mighty Wurlitzer.
Pepe Escobar reports…..

“CONFIRMED by the Duma. Operation Z started ONE DAY ahead of the invasion of Donbass by the Ukrainian Army. GRU was receiving operational intel minute by minute. Russia had no choice. They had to prevent
a blood bath”
Explains why they invoked Art 51
INDY
I would need to read the authentic order signed by Zelensky to believe it. It’s one of those things about which people will always disagree. As soon as this Operation Z began to be described, which happened many days prior to the attack on Ukraine (about two weeks earlier?), it made me think of “war propaganda.” A top secret service man of Russia described this massing of Ukranian troops near Donbass. He had all kinds of details, and he was way ahead of the rest in the government. Even though Zelensky said he wanted a nuclear bomb just prior to being invaded, I would need to see his Operation Z order, or a medical prognosis declaring him insane, to believe it. Not something from the Duma.
Preventing bloodbath by another bloodbath? Sounds like US/NATO narrative. If they had such information, they should immediately make it public, then move peacekeepers into Donbas, then wait for attack and THEN escalate. One day is nothing, almost nothing is gained and much is lost. I wonder if Putin really ordered this…
I haven’t seen any discussion of the GEOGRAPHY of Ukraine relative to military operations.
Obviously the Dnieper is a huge obstacle, dividing the country in two. But it seems to me that the Samara and Oril, possibly as well as the Vorskla, are being used by the Russians in containment of the Ukraine forces in Donbass.
The Bug is being used in a similar manner around Odessa.
Overall there are a LOT of rivers in Ukraine. I haven’t seen any pictures of Russian bridging units, but they must have brought them?
Even the “plains/steppe” area seems to have what I’d consider rather hilly terrain. These factors MUST be a major consideration in military operations and movement, but they seem to be ignored by most (all?) commentators thus far. (How can anyone be a “military expert” and ignore these factors?)
I’ve seen a bunch of videos of russian pontoon crossings already, most of them so far were in the north pripyat region
Yes. Rivers are a major barrier for tanks and other vehicles. The flattest terrain happens to be where the widest rivers are, down the centre of the country. In the west there is a lot of plateau, and in the far west there are river plains again, but the rest is rather rough. But with the exception of the Carpathians, very little is so rough as to impede them much either on the ground or in the air. And as always, without control of roads an operation like this is nearly impossible.
A recent UNGA had 141 members vote against Russia; goes to show the influence that the US still has globally.
Russia could throw a spanner into the US/NATO aggression if they offer Poland, Hungary and Romania the spoils of war; Ukraine territory that those states have harboured for quite some time.
This will not last long.
Soon you will see an avalanche of countries deserting the Empire.
Andrei
The first map has a blue circle that indicates the location of the Ukrainian forces within the Donbas. What is the arrow within that circle (pointing towards the north-east!?) meant to indicate?
And why is there still shelling of the LDNR by Ukrainians? I would have thought that neutralising that would have been of the highest, immediate priority.
I will start to feel better about all of this when I begin to hear news of high-profile nazis being apprehended or just ‘dealt with’.
The red arrows are lines of advance.
And be careful about “dealt with”. Whatever wrongs some of these people may have done, I presume none have wronged you personally. I should hope the rules of war are respected, both written and unwritten. *”И как хотите, чтобы с вами поступали люди, так и вы поступайте с ними.” If you are able.
*Google translation,MOD:
“And as you want people to do to you, so do you to them.”
ok…thanks, but I was asking about the blue arrow. Why would the Ukrainian forces in the Donbas be advancing to the north-east?
And I’ve never been comfortable with the aphorism you quote. It assumes that the “you” is a sane and well meaning person. What if the “you” in question is a sado-masochist (for example)?
Here is a story about Ze that tells a lot about why he is still the president (one could say it is good work if you can get it).
https://eprimefeed.com/latest-news/zelensky-found-a-billion-dollars-and-a-villa-in-miami-2/20181/?amp=1
One point I haven’t seen discussed yet is the push made by the Russian army towards safeguarding Ukrainian nuclear plants. The one in Zaporozhye was secured on Feb 28 (their Telegram feed immediately switched to Russian with some strong anti-Ukie statements).
I believe one of the underlying reasons behind the northward move near Transnistria (pink box) is the South-Ukrainian Nuclear Plant. I hope that I’m right and that we will see it taken under control tomorrow.
They are close. They advanced today at least to Voznesensk. That means they are just as close to the power plant as the nearest VSU headquarters at Pervomaysk.
The staff of the Zaporozhye NPP coming out and saying they were forced to use Westinghouse fuel rods (dangerous because they don’t fit, can get stuck and have the wrong alloy), can be found here: cont.ws/@voenkorr Someone else posted that link here earlier. I was pleasantly surprised. t’s the best website for very brief news. I suspect The Saker and Colonel Cassad (Boris Rezhin) get their news from it. It’s in Russian, so use Yandex translate or Google translate. Either way, it’s a real time saver.
Thank you Saker. I am following closely. This may be the wrong thread… but can we talk about how to make money, heck-just preserve wealth from the $ inflation tsunami.
I don’t trust Zone A banks, accounting and fiat currency. Same for China. Global South have such small economies that it is easy to get whipsawed by shifts from loose money to tight.
I had thought that Russia, so seriously de-dollarized, would be a good place to ride it out. Kinda like JPY in the mid ’80’s.
Now with the Rubble smashed, I am more interested. But is it even possible for me to invest in the currency or the stock market there?
Appalling but I would point out back in 2014 I did see images of young Ukrainian civilians being shot in that area by Russia militias – the circumstances of which I dont know.
But that doesnt change the current UKN Govt trying to let in NATO etc…
All people in Odessa who want to live should get out of Odessa as soon as they can, any way they can.
It is going to be nasty there.
If someone could identify securer channels/methods of contributing to the Russian/Novorussia KIA survivors foundations, it would be appreciated by humanity-loving people.
From a political point of view the Russians may not want to trap the Ukrainian forces arrayed along the Donbas front.
Why? Because if they trap them there then those Ukrainian forces have to stay put in their (very entrenched) current positions. And those current positions prevent the Donbas forces from breaking out and taking over all the territory that they claim for their independent state.
If the Russians are counting on a short war then they may very well want to entice those Ukrainian forces to cut and run through the gap to the West that has been left for them. Once they are gone then the Donbas forces can simply stroll out of their positions and take control of the territory that they claim but has hither-to been denied to them.
Huzzah!
If the Russians are resigned to a LONG war then their attitude could be completely different: encircle the bastards then blow them all to the hot place. But until they do that then the Donbas forces remain hemmed in, and that may not suit Russia’s geopolitical aims.
It doesn’t matter if the Nazi battalions hunker down in the bunkers they build in the last 8 years, or if they cut and run for the Dneiper River (which has nasty steep banks, I’m told). Either way, they will be cut down. Only the type of munitions will change, and if it’s bunkers then the Russian air force will have to use their heavy aircraft to drop heavier bombs. Personally, I’m hoping the Nazis hunker in the bunker so events will go faster and not waste toxic lots of Grad warheads on bare land.
Fair enough, but maybe the Russians are more concerned with getting the Donbas forces out and reclaiming their territory with minimal casualties for them, rather than being concerned with maximizing the casualties amongst the Ukrainian forces that are facing them.
After all, it would earn the Russians brownie-points with its new ally if they show a bit of consideration, rather than being callous regarding their limited manpower.
I have forwarded the link on war crimes to the BBC, so that our new Archbishop, Gary Lineker, £1.7m a year contractor who broke every BBC regulation going during the Brexit debate, yet wasn’t sacked for gross professional misconduct, would have the chance to comment.
I also asked that every Ukrainian footballer in the EPL plus Robert Lewandowski comment also.
Let’s see whether they are moral cowards or not.

The propaganda must be intense.
RE: Ron Chandler
Leo Strauss was a German-born philosopher who taught at the University of Chicago in the 1950s and 60s. At one point he claimed to have ferreted out hidden meanings in the works of Plato, among them the necessity for any government to lie to its people, and to maintain the country in a state of perpetual war.
A significant number of adherents flocked to his banner, hence “Straussians.”
And in todays news: It’s bad times on the eastern front for the nazis. Again!
