On the Issue of Berezin’s Account of the Ukrainian Rape and Murder in the Village of Saurovka (and on the matter of the response by some readers of the Vineyard of the Saker Blog thereto)
by Gleb Bazov
First, apologies for the mayhem caused – it certainly was sufficient to provoke two response notes from you. And, for a good reason. My own initial reaction to Berezin’s “essay” (damn the [reader] who called it that – the fact that the man is a published writer and can put two words together on paper (and so can his translator) should not count to his detriment or deter from his voice; on the contrary, the effect of an exploding bomb is caused precisely by the effectiveness of conveying such information in a compelling manner) was utter stupefaction.
I waited some time before publishing it. In the end I decided that I would not forgive myself for not publicizing his words simply because the story sounded too horrific (to be true? – no, not at all, too horrific not to be censored as false by a human mind, like mine, so used to self-censorship as a means of survival in a society that abhors non-mainstream accounts and points of view and denigrates (I am using that purposefully) them in order to silence dissent). I could go on for some time, with reference to post-modern, systems analysis and continentalist philosophers on the flaws of our social organization and expression models, but the point is self-evident without that kind of verboseness.
Let us put it this way: Berezin is Strelkov’s deputy. He spent some time in Slavyansk, and it was there that Strelkov chose him to act in his stead in Donetsk, at the seat of the DPR government. Inasmuch as I know Strelkov and his character by now (his harsh, but fair, decision to execute two kidnappers among the militia, the type of men he has surrounded himself with, to wit, Motorola, and the impossible success of his rag-tag coalition of patriots in Slavyansk, all being prime reference sources for my opinion of Strelkov), I doubt sincerely that he would have chosen a man (I mean Berezin) who did not conform to the highest standards Strelkov expects of himself.
Strelkov may be wrong, he probably often is, but he is nothing if not a man of the highest calibre. He admits his errors freely, rejects platitudes and undeserved praise, and insists that his talents, which have been sufficient to hold off over 10,000 Ukrainian troops, not be aggrandized (see his earlier statement I translated). Above all, Strelkov is a military man, who understand the importance of building a winning cadre. And, as such, in choosing a man to act in his stead (and I must emphasize – his deputy, not a mere common soldier), Strelkov would likely have selected someone who also matches these characteristics.
Now, all that is supposition. Strelkov could well have made a mistake. And, I am sure, that, in many ways, he would have preferred Berezin to be more active and help Slavyansk beyond the meagre assistance they are currently receiving. But was he wrong about Berezin’s moral qualities? Did he choose a man who would lie, and lie in a way that Strelkov would obviously never permit himself (do I need to refer to the body of tempered, measured reports, cautious and conservative, that we have to date received from Strelkov?).
What is more important, in that regard, is to consider how Berezin has behaved to date. Will any of the skeptical readers of the Vineyard of the Saker blog please count the number of times that I have translated Berezin’s statements or, in fact, simply the number of times he has made statements so far? I wish he made them more often. Statements by a writer, like Berezin, are enjoyable to translate. And, yet, I can recall only 3-4 statements in total (including the one that he just made, after midnight on June 26, 2014) that were made by Berezin to date.
What does this suggest to a keen observer of the various sources that talk for the DPR government? That Berezin is, perhaps, the most laconic and sparing with words of them all. All of his statements have been brief, he has not (that I remember) given any interviews (unlike Strelkov, for instance, who gives them sometimes twice a day) and he has been largely in the shadow of the events that have been unfolding elsewhere. Berezin is performing a crucial function – organizing the affairs of the emerging DPR army in the area, arranging supply lines, training recruits, structuring the military organization.
Unlike Strelkov, Berezin has his hand on the pulse of the entire organization – which is why he can talk about what is happening not just in Slavyansk, but elsewhere. No wonder then, that he gets reports from Militia fighters at the Saur-Mogila memorial. And, after what I am sure was very careful consideration (I heard rumours of these atrocities some time ago), Berezin decided that one of his few statements to date will be made on the subject of these crimes. If he had been shooting his mouth off, and made nonsensical claims left, right and centre, it is highly unlikely that you would have seen the translation I provided (for the same reason as, for instance, I filter out from my translations all the loud-mouth verbiage coming from Pavel Gubarev these days).
Some of The Vineyard of the Saker readers, who follow this war from the standpoint of a “silver platter” do not seem to understand the filtering that goes on and the reasons why a specific translation may be done, while another text will be ignored. I would recommend that they engage in the similar amount of research that you and I do, before making claims as to what is possible or not. Odessa, the Kiev Trade Unions House, the murder of a Polish Holocaust historian in Lvov, the massacre in Mariupol, the use of prohibited flechette and incendiary white phosphorus ammunition in Slavyansk would be good starting points (among many other such examples).
Women in Odessa were first raped, then butchered, then burned alive to ensure they would not be identified. There are rooms in the Trade Unions House that were cemented right after the massacre. No one alive, other than the Nazi murderers and the collaborationist police, has ever seen the basement of the building – even though every report by a survivor that I have seen (and I have read and seen close to 20 so far) points to the fact that they barely escaped being dragged down into the basement, where most others were taken and killed. And, as The Saker has correctly pointed out (see here and here) this was in front of multiple video cameras and hundreds of witnesses. Nineteen of the survivors have since been murdered. Others are hiding wherever they can.
As for the kind readers of the Vineyard of the Saker blog that suggest that “essays” should be accompanied by photographs and videos, I suggest they make a trip to Saurovka. Apparently, they expect the vastly outnumbered Militia fighters, who barely hold on to the strategic Saur-Mogila height, dug in, often without provisions and a change of clothes, to make a trip to the stronghold of the enemy in the region, their encampment in Saurovka, and watch (and tape) the rape that goes on. I am not sure how this could be done. Perhaps I am too feeble-minded. (I won’t even address the disbelief at a Polish female sniper with an American rifle – really? And this disbelief comes after Bolotov took prisoner and showcased to the world a Ukrainian female ranking officer, a helicopter pilot who was correcting the enemy artillery shelling and was likely involved in the murder of the Russian journalists?)
As for how does Berezin know all that has been happening in Saurovka? Well, I will do my best to find that out. However, it is really simple – the Militia has intelligence-gathering groups that go out to scope out enemy positions, for one. Second, I am sure they can see well, from the height of the Saur-Mogila memorial, that the NazGuard have adopted Saurovka as their quarters. Finally, let’s consider this: one day, the phones don’t answer in Saurovka – why are they silent? Another day, a Militia fighter finds a woman that was raped, killed and thrown to the side. Perhaps someone managed to escape and joined the militia. And, perhaps, they can observe some of what goes on from up above.
All this is supposition, without a direct answer from Berezin, but to those who dismiss his “essay” out of hand, I will only say this: once upon a time, when the Soviet troops became the first to witness the horrors of the Holocaust, they were still disbelieved, until photographic evidence emerged. Were the Soviet soldiers right or were the people who demanded photographic evidence, because their socialized minds, much like mine, refused to believe that such atrocities could be possible?
We will, someday, find out the full account of the Ukrainian societal collapse, and Saurovka will be just the tip of the iceberg.
Kind regards,
Gleb Bazov

Dear Gleb
I enjoyed the article.
Croat and Russophile
Gleb,
Great stuff as always! What I would like to do is to remind everyone that during the Great patriotic War rape & murder in villages committed by Nazi’s was unfortunately common. The next generation of Nazi’s are picking up where the previous generation of Nazi’s left off.
Meezer
Oh, I knew a croatian was was tortured, shot and left for dead and he had a friend with two young teenage girls who had been systematically raped ( they were Muslims) over a period of time. None of these people every recovered their sanity–he was able to work as a machinist but died of alcoholism after 20 years in the US…the girls lived totally in PTSD and shame and are still kept at home inside the family, protected. This account is totally possible–horrifically, totally probable given the fact that many of the forces are ad hoc right sector based gangs.
Thank you, Gleb. The problem is that very few people really know what evil is though they like to think otherwise. Evil has to hide in this world to be effective.
We may not want to talk about it, to reveal it because of the reaction of the unknowing. It might be kinder for them not to be faced with the reality of evil but we harm them and everybody in the end if we supress the facts one evil when we see it or know about it. We end up aiding the. Very evil we are fighting against.
So you and The Saker are exactly right to bring this appalling evil to our attention. And we need to face the connections. Evil hides in our governments, in our media and institutions and they are funding supporting and hiding this monstrous psychopathic killing and injuring of our fellow human beings.
By exposing this behaviour and those that support it to the sunlight, we will defeat it. There is no other way. The Truth, ugly as it is, will set us all free.
Gleb
Thank you for your work enabling us equipped with no Russian language skills to learn from intimate sources of the war in the East.
We can think and put 2+2 together. For instance, what you relate here about Odessa. I have wondered why no testimony has leaked out. Now you tell us 19 witnesses have been murdered. We know thousands of thugs were sent to Odessa to secure the city. It might have sprung its own rebellion. However, your report tonight tells us Odessa is a city terrorized with fear.
Thanks again for your work. Stay safe and transmit back to the fighters and civilians however you can that the world is watching, people from many countries are concerned, and we are supporting their efforts with the little common people can do.
Some times it is money to Saker’s blog, money to the rescue effort to get children and women to safety in Crimea, and to spread the truth across the Internet. And we pray for brave men bearing the awful cost of combat.
Very well written and fully justified.
Who would have believed western backed butchers roasting the heads of captured Syrian pilots over a BBQ?? But they filmed themselves – yet even with the evidence on camera, including cannibalism – it was not believed or reported, nor did it halt the western support.
May you continue to show great judgement and wisdom as you have up until this point. I profoundly respect you for the difficulty of the work you do and decisions you make.
Gleb, Someone could simply fled the village and tell what happened. Why it is so hard to imagine. Ukraine is a mad country full of mad people, with a mad government who give permission to these mad people to bear arms, and send them to someone else’s village. That is exactly what is going to happen.
I hold Ukraine the country responsible for all this atrocity, and send all these president, interim president, prime minister, and MPs to Hague or court of your choice. They should be hunted down one by one.
Gleb,
Thank you. I am sorry you felt you needed to write this but also quite grateful that you did, because you set forth the case for not only writing about this, but also taking it quite seriously. We all owe you a debt of gratitude, for both.
If some one doubt this kind of things can happen, he should read about Nanking Massacre. It was NaziGuard+ISIS time 20.
This kind of story need to be published.

Thank you, Gleb.
Rest assured, I won’t be advising caution on this blog again. Count on it!
I’d rather sift through drab to find a gem than stare at the sterile statements [lies] MSM keeps spouting at me.
If everyone chips in, collectively, we can separate the wheat from the chaff.
Can anyone shed light on the following video?
LiveLeak – Footage of the Notorious German MG-42 machine gun being used in Ukraine, known for it’s extremely high rate of fire.
Thanks in advance.
Nothing Surprising, plenty of this among the NATO “peacekeepers” in the once larger and peaceful former Yugoslavia. International personal often enjoy immunity from prosecution. was hushed up for ages, So the scum of Kiev are no different, they too think they got immunity as long as they win. Makes them desperate to win, Slovakia and Czech republic are wise to keep NATO troops out.

> Ukraine is a mad country full of mad people, with a mad government who give permission to these mad people to bear arms, and send them to someone else’s village. That is exactly what is going to happen.
You are damn wrong. It was planned and executed with deep satisfaction. Perhaps your History lessons touched such important topics like gender issues.
> I hold Ukraine the country responsible for all this atrocity, and send all these president, interim president, prime minister, and MPs to Hague or court of your choice. They should be hunted down one by one.
You and other “civilized” human beings, hyper tolerant and grown up on “gay parades” see no other ways or really believe (more probable) is all sorts of courts of justice like the farce called in Hague. Me not.
They should be hunted down one by one and shot on spot. Let it be, after short military court session on spot.
Dear Mr. Bazov,
I very much appreciate the time you have taken to explain the situation for those of us far removed from its reality, but I must say honestly that your conclusion leaves me with a feeling of despair.
You write: “We will, someday, find out the full account of the Ukrainian societal collapse, and Saurovka will be just the tip of the iceberg.”
I cannot disagree with this, but when you speak of “someday” in the future tense, i.e., that “someday” we will have photographic evidence to support the claims being made today, it means that the veracity of these claims, and thus the truth of the injustice of this war, will be decided in the future. Until then, we are essentially spectators in this conflict.
But one thing I have learned from reading the Saker’s blog is that we, all of us, are fighting an information war. I may be far away from the front lines of this conflict, but every time I speak with my friends, I find myself caught up in this war. Many of us are surrounded by other people who half-believe what the MSM tells them. They have absorbed the disinformation. They believe that Putin has evil aims, etc. How do we reach them? How do we convince them they what they are hearing is disinformation? I don’t think I am alone when I ask these questions.
While I cannot speak for others, the reason I am asking for photographic evidence is not because I don’t believe your account, but because everybody around me who is indifferent to this conflict won’t believe your account.
You expressed surprise at the reaction to the story of the Polish female sniper, and pointed to the capture of “a Ukrainian female ranking officer” who was “showcased to the world”. Since I had missed this news, I spent five minutes with Google and was unable to find any pictures of this incident. I only found a Facebook page with a quotation from Bolotov. Sorry to be dense if this was widely reported, but what, exactly, do you mean by “showcased to world”? Can you give us a URL to a story or photos or something? (Also, please, a credible news source, not a Facebook page.)
Again, it’s not that I don’t believe you, and I hope you will understand I am not criticizing the fine work you are doing. It’s that what you are saying ultimately makes me feel powerless in the wider information war that is raging around this crisis. In this war, documentary evidence is a weapon. It’s one of the few weapons that we have. If we don’t have it, we can’t fight. We are powerless.
Finally, if people feel powerless, many will simply disengage from whatever makes them feel that way. Probably, this is why millions of people in the world no longer care about politics. They don’t feel that they can take a side in any meaningful way, or say something to others that might have any effect. They have no weapons to fight with, so they give up.
Do any of these concerns speak to you?
‘Ceasefire announced by Kiev might be a prelude to the bigger military operation’
http://rt.com/op-edge/168348-ceasefire-ukraine-poroshenko-violence/
It was a good rant. But as people who are trying to help are pointing out, that if ANY hard evidence can be produced then many key board warriors can help. I give the example of the “Sarin Gas “attack in Syria. It was due to a leaked youtube vid showing the abduction of women and children by the “rebels” and the testimony of a Nun that went viral on the internet that was largely responsible for preventing Syria from being bombed by NATO. Odessa was another prime example, although the full horrors have yet to be exposed it was due to an article by William Engdahl that the truth of the Trade Union massacre was spread internationally and instantly. see link here:
http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/05/05/kiev-and-right-sector-kristallnacht-odessa-extreme-graphics/
Many understand the situation you are in, however with such atrocities and an army on their keyboards, hard evidence of such atrocities can and do go a long way towards getting the people of East Ukraine the help they need internationally. So when and if possible, such hard evidence as photographs and videos that can stand up in court, and possibly in time an international court in the Hague, can be used as evidence.
Gleb Bazov
Thanks. I’ve no doubts what the Israeli-American run freakshow in the Ukraine and Novorossia are capable of. Berezin’s account is probably only scratching the surface of what the nazis have done. Their Israeli-American masters have a very long documented history of doing these things.

I don’t know what to say, guys…
@Anonymous 08:00 June 26, 2014.
I think your point is too subtle for some of the well intentioned inadvertant sycophants here: Fedor Berezin – Science FICTION writer. (i.e. his day job is to write Fiction, that doesn’t make him a propagandist, but it does open him to suspicion, even if that’s prejudicial and possibly unfair).
Blazov is TOTALLY out of line attacking -ad hominem- the reader that expressed disbelief. Gleb is not doing those translations for our sake, he’s doing them for the sake of his cultural compatriots in the Donbass, to get the word out to international users. His indignation is unwarranted.
People have every right to question and to criticize, especially if their intentions are good: criticism that is meant to protect this blog and the victims in Ukraine from having they’re credibility damaged amongst the general public. Unless you can produce proof or some evidence people can and will express doubt.
One month ago, I saw a report out of a Russian publication claiming organless bodies of Right Sector casaulties were being disinterred from forest mass graves, the implication was clear: once wounded Right Sector idiots were no longer salvageable or useful, they were dispatched and butchered for their organs. The article even provided pictures – all of which turned out to fake (pictures from a different time [years ago] and place).
During the 1st Iraq war, I remember reading a 2 page spread in an American Newspaper detailing, in sickening detail, an alleged “Rape and Murder Camp” run by Sadaam Hussein’s Army in Kuwait, that “piece” was also written like an Essay too. Fifteen years later the CIA admitted (proudly!) that they fabricated the whole story. That’s why some us who reject the MSM for propagating such lies come here (to get an alternative point of view, to get the truth from imperfect but apparently honest-intentioned individuals -i.e. Saker et. Al.). That doesn’t mean we’re going to park our brains and accept verbatim whatever is written here – Our experience with the lying making machine of the AngloSphere MSM compels us to do otherwise.
Therefore, we’ll be damned if you or anyone else is going to browbeat us into not asking questions or expressing doubt. Due to the intellectual tone Mr. Saker has set here, you have higher quality readers here than the general public, so expect to be held to a higher standard too.
“As for the kind readers of the Vineyard of the Saker blog that suggest that “essays” should be accompanied by photographs and videos, I suggest they make a trip to Saurovka.”
I believe this was directed at my comment in the first report thread.
I appologize for the wording, which obviously didnt make it clear enough what I meant.
What I meant was -if- there is any pictures/video of any atrocity like the one described, they should always be posted/linked. One should never censor things like this. I know western media are hypocrites in this regard, but any truthseeker should never do that. The truth is often gruesome and will leave lasting impressions on a person exposed to it. But so be it.
I have the highest respect for the fighters of Novorossia and they have enough on their plate to run around with cameras behind enemy lines.
There is indeed no reason to believe the NazGuard/PravySector is not capable of something like this based on what has already happened. One could almost think they are trying to imitate their “heroes” from World War 2.
As for traveling there and taking part myself, I sure would have loved to. Unfortunately I am disabled and would likely be a burden. For the last 20 years after my military service, this is the one conflict I have felt the hunger to participate in. The injustice towards the people of eastern/southern Ukraine is tremendous. Our western media bias is disgusting.

To all: I could write a serenade of gratitude, but it would no do justice to the support I (and we all) feel, as we fight, what has been aptly termed the “information war.” Allow me simply to say “thank you” for reading. That, in and of itself, is more than I could hope for.
@ Anonymous 04:55
Don’t get me wrong. All the concerns you point our resonate with me, to the core. Below, by way of an explanation, I have quoted my response to someone else in relation to this issue. I hope that, on reading it, you can glimpse what I feel as well, and understand the reasons for my statements.
As for the more specific question of video proof of the Ukrainian female ranking officer, there has been quite a bit of evidence, here and there, in photographic and vide form, presented by LPR. Unfortunately, much is inaccessible to non-Russian speakers. I am trying to rectify this problem with respect to key pieces of evidence, but, for obvious reasons, cannot capture it all.
Here is the video I was able to find on a moment’s notice. It is an interview of the female detainee by a Russian news channel. There is more. In fact, the Ukrainian community has started a Twitter campaign a-la “#SaveOurGuys” to appeal for her release. For reasons that should be apparent, it has not gained much traction. Here is the link:

——————–
And, now, the response I referred to above:
… [Allow] me to clarify, and perhaps apologize, to some extent. My note was not directed at anyone in particular. On the contrary, it was directed, perhaps, more at my own helplessness and inability to do anything material to help those who suffer, at the phantom sitting inside my head – the phantom I blame for not being in Novorossiya now – when, in fact, the real reasons are far more practical and understandable and are taking priority (for now, at least).
So, the outrage, inasmuch as it could be felt in my note, was an expression of self-directed anger. Know this also – I fully understand the concerns the lack of material evidence raises. After discussion with The Saker, I intend to find out, hopefully from Berezin directly, as much as I can (and he can share) about this incident and the type of evidence he may possess.
Know this also – I deeply, truly appreciate the support I feel from people like you. I would translate anyways, but the fact that what I do is penetrating deeper (than I expected, frankly) is … (no, not gratifying) … gives me hope for myself and others around me.
So, forgive, please, the palpable anger in my note – I hope you understand its roots, now. Kind thanks and kind regards. We will continue the fight, and shall prevail. …
Kind thanks to all of you,
Gleb Bazov

The big rapists were the red army, followed by the Americans and the North African Muslims in French uniform.
The Ukrainian Nazis might have raped a lot, that I do not know, but the German Nazis did not.
All:
Please keep in mind that many of the Maidan faithful now in Self Defense batallions were welfare dependant petty criminals, drug addicts and alcoholics (who else has time to camp out in the cold of winter for months on end without working?), and that the “Special Battalions” of Kolomoisky and Liashko have been openly admitted to be half filled with common criminals – theives, rapists, brawlers, murderers.
Take people like this, put them under the stress of being shot at, remove all adult supervsion, and give them firearms and heavy weaponry, and what do you think happens? You think they turn into Angels?
These atrocities we keep reading about are the common currency of all wars, and much more so when you fill the army with the type of people Ukraine has currently under arms.
Dear Gleb Bazov,
Thank you for your post. To be honest I didn’t doubt your piece one little bit. When I told a friend their first response was “that’s what the Nazis did”.
It is toally believeable :( and anyone who seeks the truth with any of these conflicts/wars sees this repeated over and over -Libya, Syria etc. etc. Its their modus operendai.
And don’t forget the drugs and psycopaths used for these battles.
What makes me feel enraged is the fact all these so called EU leaders, MSM, UN etc. allow it to happen on their watch and cover it up and blame the innocent party!
All in their quest for money and control.

That was beautifully said. The court of public opinion is really the only (potential) leverage we have. We’ve got to make that potential real.
Thank you Gleb,
The hatred the Ukie Nazis have for the ethnic Russian ” Untermenschen” it is no wonder that they are capable of or have acted quite inhumanly. Yes the account was the tip of iceberg and many acts yet to be unearthed. Those bloody Nazi sissys can only act barbarically against unarmed civilians. “The pure race and ideology they have.”(Sarcasm)
God willing people of Novorossiya will get rid the Nazi scum and show them the hell they are meant to be in.

You can check through the brief videos by the date and get a quick briefing each day.
In time of war unimaginable horrors happen. If one side is characterizing the other as subhuman you can be sure it will happen. Brutality breeds anger which breeds returned brutality. After a while guilt can be found anywhere. But in this case the defenders are on their own soil and unable to brutalize civilians even if they wanted to. The Ukies are on the soil of the “insects” and thus have access to civilians who are usually much easier to brutalize than soldiers eh?
I have no military experience at all but from accounts it seems undoubted that US soldiers in Vietnam – teenagers conscripted straight out of the American Dream – routinely cut off the ears of the killed to wear around their neck.
They had a term “double veteran”. This was a soldier who raped a woman and then killed her. (According to Mark Baker’s interviews in his book “Nam”)
I think all people are capable of this.
@ Gayle,
If David had used caution he would have fled, with only a sling and a stone. I can relate to your asking for caution. As for now the caution has flown out the window. People have been cautious way too long. Look at where it has taken us… Hijacked in my own country the is a fact. So caution given up to the Lord gives strength to battle the Giant! Be brave sister! Blessings!
Theres rape in EVERY war.
Silly westerners dont think there is, but there is. Nothings changed in the thousands of years of human warfare.
Rape always has been, and always will be, part of warfare. Theres no ‘rules’ in warfare. Civilian morality doesnt apply.
Im not sanctioning rape by any means. Its a tragedy. But wars a tragedy. Why people have disbelief at rape in warfare is beyond my comprehension.
Even the well disciplined Romans did it, usually on orders though *(Example: Boudicca’s daughters) rather than their own initiative.

Meezer said: “What I would like to do is to remind everyone that during the Great patriotic War rape & murder in villages committed by Nazi’s was unfortunately common.”
Rubbish.

“When travelling the liberated countries after the war one mostly heard praise of the German soldier and only too often unkind remarks on the behavior of the liberating troops”

The German soldiers’ “Soldbuch” (pay book)contained the following 10 commandmends of warfare which summarized part of their basic training, original text scroll down:
“1. The German soldier fights gallantly for the victory of his people. Cruelty and useless destruction are unworthy of him.
2 The soldier must be in uniform or with a particular highly visible badges. Fighting in civilian clothes without such a badge is prohibited.
3 No enemies who give up may be killed, no partisans and no spys. These will be brought to justice through the courts.
4 prisoners of war must not be abused or insulted. Weapons, plans and records are to be collected, their possessions are not to be taken away.
5 Dum-dum bullets are prohibited. Regular ammunition must not be transformed into such.
6 The Red Cross is inviolable. Wounded enemies shall be treated humanely. Medical personnel and chaplains must not be hindered in their medical or religious duties.
7 The civilian population is inviolable. The soldier must not loot or vandalize: Historical monuments and buildings that serve to religion, art, science or charitable purposes are to be respected. Food and services by the population may only be claimed on orders from superiors against compensation.
8 Neutral territory shall not be involved in acts of war either by entering or overflying or by bombarding.
9 A German soldier in captivity shall indicate his name and rank when asked. Under no circumstances, he may give his unit or talk about military, political and economic conditions on the German side. He shall not be induced by promises or threats.
10 breaches of the above commands are punishable. Violations of the enemy against sections 1 to 8 shall be reported. Reprisals are permitted only on the orders of the higher troop leadership.”
@Christof and your stunning pedantic defense of Nazi soldiers.
If you believe the revisionist trash printed from Liddel Hart’s “book” then the toothfairy is your guardian Angel too!
It’s been scientifically proven that Nazis and their sympathizers are incredibly stupid; picture an illiterate inbred albino moron with an grounded pole up his keister compulsively doing the one-armed salute in order to touch electrified barbed wire – and you’ll have the perfect image of the ideal Nazi.
Part 2
Original pay book text:
Wehrmacht soldiers who transgressed, were executed. The German general staff feared nothing more than lack of troop discipline (and loss of control).
The Soviet side also instructed their soldiers. In 1942 Ilya Ehrenburg, Stalin prize winner, published the following text in the Red Star:
“The Germans are not human beings. From now on the word German means to use the most terrible oath. From now on the word German strikes us to the quick. We shall not speak any more. We shall not get excited. We shall kill. If you have not killed at least one German a day, you have wasted that day … If you cannot kill your German with a bullet, kill him with your bayonet. If there is calm on your part of the front, or if you are waiting for the fighting, kill a German in the meantime. If you leave a German alive, the German will hang a Russian and rape a Russian woman. If you kill one German, kill another — there is nothing more amusing for us than a heap of German corpses. Do not count days, do not count kilometers. Count only the number of Germans killed by you. Kill the German — that is your grandmother’s request. Kill the German — that is your child’s prayer. Kill the German — that is your motherland’s loud request. Do not miss. Do not let through. Kill.”

Unfortunately our Anglo-American “partners” who are also trolling this blog neither share a sense of historical truth nor a sense of responsibility for the regimes they put in power.
Germany’s misguided occupation policy of Russia from 1941 which was epitomized by Erich Koch, Gauleiter of Ukraine, was driven by Nazi party ideologues who were put in power in Berlin by MI6 and Wall Street. See Preparata – Conjuring Hitler, http://guidopreparata.com/chpg/2CH-English-ToC.pdf .
If one looks for WWII parallels to the Ukrainian “Neonazi” thugs of today, the following comes to mind:
the Polish death camps for Germans e.g. at Lamsdorf (described by Janusz Rudnicki, https://sites.google.com/site/helmermuhr/kaum-zu-glauben and by James Bacque https://archive.org/stream/CrimesAndMercies#page/n27/mode/2up)
the Red Army’s mass rapes and mass killings in Germany in 1945 courtesy Ilya Ehrenburg (http://www.amazon.de/friedensfeindliche-Trauma-Rote-Armee-Deutschland/dp/B009SEDRFO)
Eisenhower’s death camps for German POWs (also described by James Bacque here http://www.amazon.com/Other-Losses-Investigation-Prisoners-Americans/dp/0889226652 and summarized by an unknown author here http://www.rense.com/general46/germ.htm).
My admiration goes to the resilience and galantry of Strelkov.

My German teacher from Freiburg im Breisgau told us that the western soldiers in and after WWII quickly settled on a code phrase that eliminated the need for threats, force and compulsion. The German girls knew what was coming and the phrase was both subtle and informed of the intentions.

Dear Gleb Basov,
People complain about the Western media falsely representing the Novorossiya conflict. One answer is for Donetsk and Lugansk to develop top-notch local online English-language news outlets. As far as I know, none exist. Your posts, those of the Saker, and the thousands of tweets found by doing a Twitter Advanced Search, are the only sources of accurate news. Even rt.com sounds mainstream in comparison.
If there are such news outlets in Donetsk or Lugansk, the fact that I don’t know about them emphasizes my point. If they exist, they are failing to capture attention. I watch closely. I should have seen them.
Thanks for holding the fort.

Anonymous @ 26 June, 2014 04:55 expresses well my own feeling about the reports. I won’t repeat what he has said but focus on the accounts of what happened in Odessa which we ‘couch sitters’ followed as carefully as we could. Those, and also what happened in the Maidan shootings were carefully explained to the many of us who are concerned about Ukraine civilians but don’t have facility in the Russian language.
There has been an understandable frontline opacity with respect to the standoffs and carnage as pro-junta forces attacked their own citizens in Eastern Ukraine, and there seem to have been (from the reports being hastily issued) atrocities on both sides. Certainly our wish is to believe the defenders of cities, but they do harm their cause in resorting to the same sort of propaganda as the attackers, especially when they become the attackers themselves.
When that helicopter was shot down with 40 some odd casualties, it was not enough for me to say, well, those are the bad guys so we should rejoice. I don’t even rejoice at the two executions. It is all barbaric and it should not be because increasingly I wonder if the defenders are cut from the same cloth as even those Nazi attackers. I do. I have to admit that.
And so I wonder, when Putin asked them to postpone the referendum, was he saying to them that they must make accurate reports, not lies as Saker says all sides do in war, if they are to receive his support? And if they haven’t done that – what Russia is it that they are seeking to join? I saw an item at RT.com that two thirds of Russians want Putin to remain in office after 2018.
Now Putin speaks the language; I do not. I really appreciate what Saker has done here with the earlier reports on Odessa and Mariopol and Victory Day occurences and the like. But I am very sorry to say I now skip those updates from ‘the front’ because I don’t think the demonization of all Ukrainians is helpful in the long run.
The courts will have their say; we abhor atrocities – that goes without saying. More carnage will hurt the innocent and is, in my mind, indefensible. And the propaganda doesn’t help.
If we cannot distinguish between accounts, we must step back and wait until people come to their senses and until there are more accurate reports. And no, that is not the opinion of somebody who is happy to ignore what is happening in the world. Just somebody who needs to respect the people I support.
Grieved @26 June, 2014 14:53 makes an excellent point. There is a very good movie, I think called “In the Valley of Elam” that addresses the descent into depravity that beset young American soldiers in the Iraq war during the Bush years.
Sadly that mindset has pervaded a lot of the reports we have been receiving here, as well as comments on the character of Ukrainians in general. I just don’t believe this is helpful. It plays into the ‘divide and conquer’ meme that makes an excuse for atrocities and lies among your own, and that cannot be a society that wants peace and/or even reconciliation.
I do think the activities of the US government have been atrocious, duplicitous, criminal. And I believe the world can do without its stupid shock and awe mentality. I pray for that and for all peaceful people to have the peace they yearn for.
I hope displaced Ukrainians can return to their homeland soon, and to a much more sensible government of their own.

There is a city that has sign at the entrance : if you are german, do not enter because your safety and life is not guaranteed.
I have seen it with my eyes in he 80ties.

In short, for each murdered solder, german army (not SS) executed 100 civilians. This time they decided to execute 1000/per murdered soldier. To come up with the number, they got all the kids from one high school.
No, i am not from that place, nor I am serb, but have seen it and will not let it go in the history dust forgotten.
Remember, german regular army did this.
I think that the sign is still there.. you can check it yourself if you dont believe me.
Kerry has ordered Russia to act within hours to disarm the rebels.
I can just see Putin jumping into action at this demand from a horse’s ass who is getting his head handed to him in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Novorossiya.
The Kremlin bas to worry about cramps from laughing at the fools in Washington.
By the way, even the corrupt Supreme Court has cut short the Imperial Powers usurped from the Constitution by the Fraud-in-Chief Obama.
When the sycophants in black robes rebel, the game is over. The music has ended. The lights are about to be dimmed.
And we have not seen China yet. China holds cards that the Hegemon fears.
We are seeing the fruits of just two days of meetings of Putin and Xi when the gas deal and 49 other deals were signed. They obviously are coordinated the assault on the dollar and petrodollar, the World Bankd, the fight against Terror through the SCO, and development in the Far East (including gambling zones, as there will be in Crimea).
Russia and China are of the Future. The USA is being led backwards economically, strategically and philosophically.
You cannot talk Democracy and meanwhile pay criminals to maim, rape and kill. You can’t tell people to vote and then drop white phosphorus on their homes. You can’t preach negotiations and send mercenaries to land mine farm and ranch land.
The USA is lost, a wounded animal, unable to control the world, lashing out, spitting vile matter all about.

Quite frankly, I consider John Kerry a well socialised psychopath of rather mediocre intelligence. As the textbook authoritarian longing for power and privilege, he is also an easily gullible, useful idiot for the “deep state” (TM).
From July 2013 – Jeffrey St. Clair on “the blood-soaked resumé” of John Kerry:
With John Kerry currently in full Henry Kissinger regalia, parading around the Middle East, brow-beating the Palestinians and their allies in the region and Europe into signing onto a deeply flawed peace accord that primarily serves Israeli and American interests, it may prove a useful exercise to inspect the curriculum vitae of this putative peace-maker, especially during those formative years when the Secretary of State first carved out his name in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Though Kerry has a reputation as an anti-war activist, his brief tenure in Vietnam and Cambodia was notable both for acts of casual savagery and his striking lack of contrition for his own participation in atrocities that in a rational society might easily be classified as war crimes.

From July 1996 – Noam Chomsky on the US-sponsored bloody trail of death squads in Latin America:
[T]he Commission of Justice and Peace […] had published a report documenting atrocities in the first part of 1988, including over 3,000 politically-motivated killings, 273 in “social cleansing” campaigns. Political killings averaged eight a day, with seven people murdered in their homes or in the street and one “disappeared.”
Citing this report, the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) added that “the vast majority of those who have disappeared in recent years are grass-roots organizers, peasant or union leaders, leftist politicians, human rights workers and other activists,” over 1500 by the time of the State Department’s praise for Colombia’s democracy and its respect for human rights. During the 1988 electoral campaigns, 19 of 87 mayoral candidates of the sole independent political party, the UP, were assassinated, along with over 100 of its other candidates. The Central Organization of Workers, a coalition of trade unions formed in 1986, had by then lost over 230 members, most of them found dead after brutal torture.

From September 2013 – Chris Hedges on the act of killing in times of war:
I have spent time with mass killers, warlords and death squad leaders as a reporter in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. Some are psychopaths who relish acts of sadism, torture and murder. But others, maybe most, see killing as a job, a profession, good for their careers and status. They enjoy playing God. They revel in the hypermasculine world of force where theft and rape are perks. They proudly refine the techniques of murder to snuff out one life after another, largely numb to the terror and cruelty they inflict. And, when they are not killing, they can sometimes be disarmingly charming and gracious. Some are decent fathers and sentimental with their wives and mistresses. Some dote on their pets.

Alexander Mezyaev on the pro Ukrainain Nazis stance of the UN:
The Western members of Security Council never made any real attempt to tackle the problem of Ukraine and the United Nations Security Council’s sessions become more like routine propaganda stunts. For instance, the Ukraine’s representative Sergeev raised the ballyhoo about Russia’s concentrating forces near the border areas. According to him, there are multiple facts confirming the deliveries of tanks, MLRS, portable air defense systems and mortars to the terrorists operating in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He assured the government of Ukraine is doing everything possible for maintaining control, law and order while rendering aid to those who are needy. Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin pointed out that some Council members had not objectively evaluated the situation in Ukraine. He categorically refuted threats that had been made against the Russian Federation during the meeting. Without a ceasefire, there would be no agreement on a solution, he stressed. On the basis of the ceasefire, dialogue must arise to find compromises that respected all parties.

Gleb,
I posted this on the Code Red threat but the interview The Author posted with the Ukrainian journalist is more than a fantastic read: just like Code Red, it is important for people everywhere — and most especially in Ukraine — to read! This too should be sent far and wide. There is a lot of awful propaganda to counter and it really does make me wonder just what the “average” Ukrainian knows about the rebellion in the South East. This journalist was honest, a probably decent person, and he’d bought into the foreign fighters/terrorists myth and was still grappling with its remnants.
Hopefully he’ll be able to inform his fellow-citizens but you know, perhaps the best place to be conveying the truth is not here in The Belly Of The Beast — but rather, in the rest of Ukraine!!! The Galician criminals and thugs, no — but the ordinary people? THEY’RE THE ONES who need the videos, THEY’RE THE ONES who need the information!
Wonder how we can help that happen…

The subject of inequality – raised to the central stage by the Occupy movement – has become a fundamental feature in the global social, political and economic discussion, as people become increasingly aware of the facts underlying the stark division between the haves and have nots. While inequality is both a source and a result of the concentration of power in the hands of a few, it also represents the greatest threat to those very same power structures and interests.

What a bunch of putrid German hooey by this Christoph troll about the very *gallant* German soldiers. Like most armies, they could execute an entire village in revenge for losing one of their number. They invaded Russia and caused phenomenal, vicious destruction, then they implemented a total “scorched earth” policy when they had to retreat, but oh they did it all so very *gallantly*, you know. And of course the Russian soldiers had no reason to be seething with rage when they pushed them back– they were not appreciative of the arian civilizatory virtues.
You, sir, make me puke.

Nothing new. The US has behaved like a hyena since the end of WWII. It’s the nature of the beast. See for example:
[…]
“The Secret War on Laos remains one of the most shameful episodes of the 20th century. New York Times columnist Anthony Lewis called it ‘…the most appalling episode of lawless cruelty in American history.’ For six years there was a news blackout that kept Americans from knowing that their government, both Republicans and Democrats, were dropping bombs on civilian targets in Laos. When the news eventually did leak out, many Americans were outraged over what was being done in their name. But by then it was too late and 2.1 million tons of high explosives had been dropped on the villages, farms, temples and schools of this neutral Buddhist country. Laos had been declared neutral in Geneva, and although the U.S. wanted to pursue Vietnamese fighters inside the country, it was unable to do so without breaking international law. The way around it was to use bomber planes whose pilots, code-named ‘Ravens’ took off from bases in neighboring countries.
“This new way of warfare was dubbed ‘automatic warfare’ in that it relied solely on technology and might, with minimal risk to service personnel. It would become a model for future warfare, most recently using drones, and was termed the ‘Laos Model.’ Villages were bombed since they were the only targets visible to the pilots, and local people were forced to flee into the forests, emerging at night to farm their fields. Because the bombing was secret, there was no need for restraint, with whole areas being reduced to ashes. Once the villages had been destroyed, the buffalos, horses and other livestock became the new targets, and farmers were strafed by machine gun fire as they fled their fields. Because the villagers hid in the forests, the planes came and sprayed defoliant to kill the trees. The only place left to hide was the caves that riddled the limestone karst landscape of Laos, but these too were targeted with laser-guided missiles by the hotshot pilots. Once all of these options had been exhausted, there was nothing that the surviving villagers could do other than begin the trek south and become refugees in the camps set up around the capital, where they awaited the end of the war and a return to their fields and forests.”
So many bombs had been dropped on Laos that unexploded shells (with their explosive payload extracted), being the most common type of metal scrap available in this undeveloped, non-industrial nation, became part of the landscape.[…]

It’s been scientifically proven that modern Nazis sympathizes with the caricature of German National Socialists, as propagandized by Hollywood movies and history books written exclusively to support the mythological foundation of the current power structures (not only) in the West.
Many people here religiously believe in that caricature, so that they appear rather burlesque themselves.
Yet they style themselves as serious thruth-seekers, questioning and doubting and pretending (after Odessa and Mariupol).
They look always just one step away from the fatidical question: “What is the truth?”

Yes I’m sure both Hollywood and Russia propagandized the courageous and GALLANT Nazi German Einstatzgruppen that butchered 3million unarmed Russian civilians.
I guess Russia AND Poland propagandized & Caricaturized Stepan Bandera and Klim Savour as well as all the support and encouragement they received from the Nazi swine of Germany too.
Why thank you for proving my point.
I’m so glad to smoke out all the closet Nazis here. Like I said before Nazis and their sympathizers are incredibly stupid. I forgot to add that they’re weakminded and thin-skinned too. They also have a penchant towards hysteria and lack the ability to govern their emotions (a function of their stupidity) – Making it exceedingly easy to expose them. Q.E.D.

I had no idea you might be communicating directly with people close to Berezin in the DNR/LNR. If this is in fact the case you sir up there in Toronto are owed an even greater debt of gratitude, as the eye of Sauron (likely the NSA with CSEC spying on some American friend of Novorossiya warrantlessly in return as two of the 5Eyes swap data) is surely zeroing in on your humble efforts. And I don’t use the word humble sarcastically, I mean that you have humility in the way that Strelkov does.
The tide is turning, but slowly. The Cheneys and McInsanes are warning of an attack from ISIS or other unnamed bad guys that will be bigger than 9/11. That must mean that ISIS is giving the banksters exactly what they want — a distraction from the atrocities their proxies are committing in Eastern Ukraine and an eternal threat to keep naked body scanning and groping futures here in the USA booming. And to answer your question Gleb from a previous thread, we can’t be on Twitter at this time for reasons we cannot disclose now.
I have to say its very exiciting tonight to see the NAF forces on the offensive and using the cover of weather, completely destroying the National Guard unit in surrounded in Donetsk and now attacking with tanks one of many National Guard checkpoints around Slavyansk.
God protect all who fight for the breath of freedom in Novorossiya!
Christoph:
The Gallant and Dashing German Wehrmacht might have existed in the west, but it sure as heck did not east of the Oder and Idrijca Rivers where it was little more than a roving band of murderers and thugs.
As others have noted, the myth of the Gallant Wehrmacht was propagated to support the BRD joining the west post 1949. It also was to serve as a reminder to the Soviet Union that the west really did not have any objections to what the Wehrmacht unleashed on 9/1/39 in Poland and 6/22/41 in Russia, and that it was more than happy to unleash the very same thing again in a “heroic crusade” if the need arose.
Just because the Anglosphere beat down Germany for getting too uppity without permission did not mean they were against the concept and practice of the Campaign in Russia.

There was a multitude of these tragedies across Europe. When irregular warfare (by plain clothes combatants) is commenced, reprisals against suspects and civilians on this order of magnitude were deemed appropriate
since the Napoleonic wars. They are “allowed” under the Hague Conventions for land warfare.
To understand this put yourself in the shoes of a general. Your troups, experienced officers and conscripts, are trained to fight an enemy on the battlefield, to risk death and at the same time to respect civilian life and property.
When these civilians begin to ambush your soldiers and hide from persecution you have 2 choices:
let it happen again and again and drive your soldiers to ad-hoc “justice” against suspects and/or desertion. Or organize reprisals to convince guerilla collaborators that ambushes are in no one’s interest.
Unfortunately there is no other choice for military commanders. The instigators of guerilla warfare know this and are playing with this to recruit more fighters from among the angry part of the population who lost relatives in reprisals.
This spiral of death and hate ends when one side surrenders. Then there may be a final bout of killing of innocents. In the case of Serbia in WWII the final victims were German POWs buried wholesale in mine shafts, bunkers, and mass graves.
The victims of the guerillas are seldom commemorated.
To this day the city of Rome refuses to put a simple plate at the Via Rasella. There 2 Italians (1 child) died when a company of young Tyrolean conscripts was ambushed using a remote controlled mine leaving 33 dead and 67 wounded on March 1944.
I personally would not participate in guerilla warfare as a civilian in a war and it was fortunate for the German population in 1945 that they refused to implement the crazy “Werwolf” plan of the Nazis.
…..Nazis and their sympathizers are incredibly stupid. I forgot to add that they’re weakminded and thin-skinned too. They also have a penchant towards hysteria and lack the ability to govern their emotions (a function of their stupidity)
============================
Congratulation, sir!
A thoroughly honest self-examination…..
Both (you and modern Nazis sympathizers) are true believers, sharing the same faith in the mythology that the ruler of this world so masterfully has put up and perpetuates through his arconts and puppets.
Don’t waste your time pointing to the many atrocities the Wermacht and the SS have done, sir.
I had a couple of relatives almost killed by their ruthlessness and your chacterial profile is already clear to me.
Just understand that I do not point out the many more atrocities committed by the “liberators”, including the brave, oh-so-brave, Soviet hordes, before, during and after the war, even against their own people, only because of a lack of time.
I would need a whole week completely dedicated to the task, and it would be just a starter….
At least, Germans have apologized.
All the others still stand proudly claiming their righteousness before God. (Luke 18,11-12)
@maedhros aka Nazi apologist.
Regarding your response you proved each and every one of my points.
Q.E.D.
For the sake of accuracy I should add cowardly to the list that includes extremely stupid and thin skinned.
Not to mention the gallant NAZI traits of shamelessness and being logically challenged: equating the provoked retaliation of the victim (the Russians) to the unprovoked pre-planned savagery of the victimizer (the animal-like uncivilized and malicious NAZIs) is par for course for the pathetic swine that sympathize with Nazis as well as their apologists.
Due to your brilliance and self control, your true attitude towards the victims of Nazis (Russians, Jews, Poles, the civilian populations of continental Europe, etc.) stands exposed: any sympathy you offer toward Donbass people or Russia is self-serving and laughable. BL
The so-called natsgvardiya rapes orphan girls under Lugansk
28.06.2014 – 14:05
While deliberately hushed up numerous facts punitive rape girls in the occupied cities of New Russia, Ukrainian media replicate cheap stuffing, about sex maniacs antifascists. However, unlike the versions Svidomo pseudo-journalists, rape by Natsgvardii recorded in the form of real evidence, confirmed by testimonies of victims and statements to the police. These facts priobratayut nature of mass crimes.
Perhaps this is why the Ukrainian side is trying to quickly cover their slander.
Professional debunker Ukrainian Anatoly Shary propaganda conducted an investigation of another stuffing: Some Polish journalist, visiting Ukraine Natsgvardii told story about a girl, allegedly raped by militiamen. Story she heard from one of the executioners. But neither the names of the victims or other subdivision of the facts she does not know. In all seriousness, this lie spread Ukrainian channels. It is because of these “journalists”, said Anatoly Shary – Ukrainian civil war continues and the growth of animal hatred, eclipsing mind civilians.
[b]It is noteworthy that the stuffing of the mythical girl rushed to info-space Ukraine at precisely the moment when it became aware of the facts of mass rape committed by Ukrainian punitive in Happiness, under Lugansk.[/b] Director of the institution gave her pupils at the mercy of the Nazis.
Viktor Tkachenko, director of the Lyceum № 50 city Happiness, students took four orphans for rape camp Natsgvardii. It is noteworthy that this criminal has a page vkontakte https://vk.com/tkachenkovn raped girl orphans: two of 16 years and two of them for 17 years.
Details and evidence of one of the witnesses is in the second video.
It is also noteworthy that the surviving population of the occupied city Happiness deprived of the opportunity to go online, and the director-pimp came Tkachenko “VKontakte” June 26, 2014 at 12.15 g, because it is for his junta.
Previously, assistant Igor Strelkov Fedor Berezin informed about the brutal rape of women in the village of Saurovka, on the border with the Rostov region.
A similar fate befell the residents of Red estuary. The number of such crimes in the captured Mariupol, Kharkov, Nikolaev, Odessa and other occupied points, which stepped sole Ukrainian patriot, is not being revealed. But they will not go unpunished.

Счастье – name of the village to look on maps – Schastye, about 20 km N of Luhansk, which is consistent with reports from the last few days.
Well, I have not had time this week to read everything posted here ( I´m trying to catch up this weekend ).
But I could read Berezin´s post and I believed it blindly, so even thanking the efforts made by The Saker and Mr.Bazov on explantions to the unbelievers, I do not need any clarifications.
I can believe anything about a Nazi or some specimens of the human race. History is full of these genocides and outrages, unfortunately-
Raping a woman, was, is being and will be a weapon of war, one more way to spread terror and another way to degrade the human being.
IMO, mature requires knowledge and the ability to accept the existence of evil. Just knowing its signals, its edges, its different faces, we can guard against it or to be able to defend ourselves.
That´s when you really miss the innocence.
