It appears that Francois Holland, aka “soft testicle” (nickname given to him by Martine Aubry, First Secretary of the Socialist Party of France), has outdone even Tony Blair as the US’s most docile poodle in Europe. After resisting US pressure for a long time and being fined billions of dollars for doing so, he has suddenly decided to cave in and suspend the delivery of the French Mistrals to Russia. However, not will the US will not return to 9 billion dollars extorted out of Paribas, now the Russian can impose astronomical penalties on France for breach of contract. Double whammy for Hollande!
Now I suspect that this is a measure which will last exactly as long as the upcoming NATO summit and that as soon it is over the “circumstances for delivery” will magically become “right again”. As for Russia – no worries. She will either get the ships or get a huge load of money. A win-win situation for sure
But that is hardly the point.
First, whether Russia really needs these French ships is an extremely controversial issue in Russia, especially in the military. I did not take a poll, but my guess is that most of the military don’t want them and rather spend the money elsewhere. This was a Medvedev purchase which was far from having a unanimity behind it. Personally, I think that the Mistrals are very good ships, very versatile, and that Russia could use on in the Black Sea and one in the Far East. They also come at at time with the Russian shipbuilding industry is over-worked and does not have the capacity to fulfill all the orders of the Russian Navy. Finally, the Mistrals come with an advanced communication and command infrastructure which the Russian would like to get their hands one. But I have always had a weak spot for French weapon systems and nobody asked me my opinion anyway. Besides, there are cheaper way for Russian to get that kind of capabilities or systems.
I think that the real importance of the Mistral contact was to show Russia, France and the rest of the world that the two countries could work together, even on huge contracts, that France is a credibly supplier and that the Russian and French military industrial complexes can cooperate.
Now the French look like total whips and idiots.
That is really unfair. The French deserve a great deal of credit for doing everything just right, sining such a complex agreement is no small task, and for designing a superb ship. Now all this is compromised by Francois “soft testicle” Hollande who clearly has the vision, courage, intelligence and leadership qualities of a blue-green algae.
I bet you the ships will be delivered more or less on time. But a terrible blow has been dealt to one of values the French hold extremely dear: the independence of their country from all other big powers. If the British are more or less resigned to their role as janitor for Uncle Sam, the French will not accept this and I expect the hatred for the current regime to become even more virulent than it is today. I tend to agree with French economist Pierre Jovanovic when he predicts that “King Francois” (another of his nicknames) will never finish his term in office.
Pauvre, pauvre France…
The Saker
What makes you think they will return the money for the ships?
Europe is a dead dog following his US overlord wherever he wants. This dirty clown belongs to a garbage bin
I wonder the same as anonymous 17:42. If the French can renege on the ships, what would stop them from just stealing the money? If so the take home lesson is that one deals with the west strictly on a COD basis. You don’t pay until the deliver.
I too had hoped France would show more spirit than Germany, but I guess not.
nice one S.big day tomorrow?Up from the Arms Park we be.CAB boyo.

At this point, this is wonderful news. Between a desire to cut defense spending and the U.S.’s desperation to keep NATO contracts, Hollande is going to attack a major industry in the eyes of potential buyers with an increasingly anti-U.S. sentiment.
The French have demonstrated they are untrustworthy suppliers, and the Soviet-era weaponry is knocking out planes and tanks despite a huge manpower disadvantage. If I was a military hardware buyer, I would see an opportunity to fund a pet project and beef up defense with Russian weaponry.
I’m French and this is a famous photo, A true one, no photoshop…
Sometimes our president really looks like that…
Dear Saker,
I’m affraid you don’t get it.
The people (?) in charge are manical.
They want a war with Russia and they will force it.
This NATO summit is just a step.
It has to happen soon. Before the year ends otherwise its too late and the dollar is dead.
They will propably create a false flag event in US soil. A new 9/11 to precipitate events.
The war will be nuclear, short and sharp and they hope to “win it” through surprise.
It will leave Europe devastated.
I hope I’m wrong but I fear I’m probably right.
I hope Russia and her military are really prepared for all circumstances and to give these bastards hell if need be.
People need to wake up and stop this madness. The danger is way too real because the USA was never in such a position.
It’s al or nothing for them, and they may realise they have nothing to loose.

Guys, I can never forget Minich 1938 when the France and UK whored Czechoslovakia to Hitler for their well being… though, very short lasted…

What makes you think they will return the money for the ships?
Oh, there are ways to make them pay.
French banks have big exposure in Russia. Societe Generale has something in the neighborhood of US$20bil.
Their arm can be twisted too (should the Russians decide to do so, which I think they won’t).
But, I think I agree with Saker here – they’ll deliver the ships on time.
The damage has been done though, the French will no longer be seen as a reliable arms supplier.
India, Brazil take notice!
had to chuckle at this.

Hollande is a true zionist lackey.
I suspect the Russians could spend the money on better things and the contract was probably an attempt by Russia to secure better relations with France. The French have shot themselves in the foot, following ZPC demands to cancel delivery. They will not be viewed as trustworthy suppliers, and not just for military material, as the contracts will be vulnerable to unreasonable political pressure. France will lose a lot more than just the money from this contract.

1)In your place, I would not be so sure, about “astronomical penalties” cause the Russian cannot impose a fucking penalty :).
2)Courts will sentence, and western Courts will do it, condemning Russia (do you remember Kasparov, and Yukos?).
3)Rather, Russian Army need “Minstrall Class Sheeps”: during the war in 2008, in Georgia, Russian Marine Corp was be able to disembark when the war ended.
Ad maiora.
There is an implicit premiss that King Francois wants to finish his term which may be unwarranted.
The photograph chosen also may give an impression of Hollande that screens out options/spectra of perception to some audiences.

No Fly Zone Enacted Over UK NATO Summit Site
http://en.ria.ru/world/20140903/192604815/No-Fly-Zone-Enacted-Over-UK-NATO-Summit-Site.html
“According to NATO Wales Police’s official Twitter page, a no fly zone was created at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in anticipation of the upcoming NATO summit, ITV reported…”
Who, exactly, are those quaking queens afraid of?
Part 1:
Massive ongoing disaster for Putin and Russia.
1) The propaganda masters of the West are using the ‘freeze-thaw’ ploy with the whole ‘peace’ negotiation process in Minsk- If Putin is GENUINELY for peace, he has to ‘prove’ it by ruining every success of the ‘rebels’- but if the ‘rebels’ continue with their successes, Putin is clearly a willing ‘warmonger’.
2) Confirmed imminent arrival of NATO forces from the UK and USA in Ukraine within the next two weeks, under the pretext of ‘training’ exercises in West Ukraine.
3) NATO sanctions now include blocking cast-iron agreements with West nations, hence the French Mistral ship event.
If Putin had sent the peacekeepers in on day one, stopping the war before it started:
-the deaths of tens of thousands of Humans would have been prevented.
-Billions of dollars of damage to the homes and infrastructure of Novorussia would have been prevented.
-Ukraine would have PEACEFULLY split in two along ethnic lines, just as Czechoslovakia did a few years back, by now.
-the initial wave of sanctions that would have been imposed would have petered out by now.
The Ancient Romans had a VERY effective propaganda trick. After they exterminated an enemy- frequently with acts of genocide that murdered maybe a million+, and wiped out multiple towns, they would LIONISE they leaders of the now ruined people. It was designed to psychological mask the horrors of the genocidal methods of the Romans. The Jews of Israel are current pulling the same foul ploy with respect to the Holocaust in Gaza- their press is full of stories of the ‘brave warriors’ of Hamas.
We see the same trick with resepct to Novorussia. As I said at the top, Putin could have had an absolute, BLOODLESS victory with minimum fallout, had he acted immediately with peacekeepers.
Instead today, we get West led propagandists, and their ‘useful idiots’ (Google that phrase- it means more than most of you realise) singing the praise of the brave warriors of Novorussia, and repeating the same tired lie about how ‘genius’ Putin had no choice but to fall into the trap of the West.
Yes our Novorussian warriors are brave beyond compare- and so were the defenders of Gaza (when the cowardly Jewish terrorists from Israel actually dared to fight on the ground). So too was Spartacus- whose slave rebellion was so SMASHED by Rome that Rome never again had to fear anything from the consequences of its disgusting slave trade.
It is NEVER about bravery, but VICTORY. The Demons of the West knew right at the beginning that their coup in Kiev would force Putin to immediately take Crimea, and begin a popular revolution in East Ukraine. The Demons knew that if Putin made the WRONG move (for them) and sent peacekeepers into Ukraine, their game was OVER.
The people of the world ADORE powerful immediate actions that end war- Humanity is for peace. The Great Game is ensuring people in power never think to make the ‘chess’ move most likely to minimise the prospect of war.
On the other hand, the nutcases who consider themselves military fanatics, get off on OTHER Humans fighting and suffering. Making a winning move that stops war before it starts just ain’t fun for these idiots.
@Saker,
I object to your comparison of the French President with blue-green algae, which is great stuff in it’s own way and might even help us in the future with sustainable carbon-neutral energy production.
Do not expect that once taking advantage of Russia’s weakness, you will receive dividends forever. Russian has always come for their money. And when they come – do not rely on an agreement signed by you, you are supposed to justify. They are not worth the paper it is written. Therefore, with the Russian is to play fair, or do not play. – Otto von Bismarck
Mr. Saker,
Should we not give Francois the benefit of the doubt?
Ah, let’s not overlook the reputation of French engineers. Maybe in the training of Russian sailors-when they first went on board – it was discovered the propeller was installed on the deck.
Or was it a let’s make a deal: Refund/cancel the DOJ Treasury $9bln fine on BNP and we will cancel Mistral? (/snarc on)
This Only hastens the East /AngloZionist divide:
Imho, France proves not to be a reliable business partner; weeks ago someone else wrote, when the question came up, that failure to deliver the ships will have far-reaching consequences. Will the Chinese or any other country make a contract with France? How many joe6pac jobs have been flushed?
Given this development, I wish Mr. Lavrov and Mr. Putin will please stop referring to these western wannabe leaders as “our partners.”
They. Are. not.
France has ‘suspended’ delivery not on a force majore so
the “failure-to-deliver-on time-penalty clause” should be invoked with demands for full refund; as you noted the RF military really have no use for these.

Kiev Committing War Crimes While Accusing Andrei Stenin of “Assisting Terrorists”
http://en.ria.ru/analysis/20140903/192600669/Kiev-Committing-War-Crimes-While-Accusing-Andrei-Stenin-of.html
“The news of Andrei Stenin’s death has evidently exposed the dishonesty and hypocrisy of Kiev’s authorities, which had proposed to swap the photojournalist from International Information News Agency Rossiya Segodnya for someone else while his charred body remained lost along the side of a highway after he was killed by the Ukrainian military in the beginning of August.
Vsevolod Bogdanov, Chairman of the Russian Union of Journalists, has called Kiev’s proposal to negotiate the release of Andrei Stenin “a provocation”, adding that the Ukrainian side had behaved unscrupulously by pretending it was concerned with the fate of the missing correspondent.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian mediators had demonstrated that they were willing to swap Andrei Stenin for the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, who was charged with aiding in the murder of Russian journalists earlier this year, implying that the Russian correspondent was alive and they were informed of his whereabouts.
“Mediators [representing] the Ukrainian side contacted our agency and suggested holding talks on swapping him, implying that Stenin is alive,” emphasized Dmitry Kiselev, the Director General of Rossiya Segodnya, as cited by RIA Novosti.
Andrei Stenin was covering the dramatic events in eastern Ukraine, where he presented a comprehensive picture of the ongoing military attack being conducted by Kiev-led forces against peaceful Ukrainian civilians.
It is worth mentioning that Anton Herashenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, claimed in an interview with Baltkom radio that Stenin had been arrested on charges of “assisting terrorists.” Later, however, he backtracked, claiming that his own statement had been “misinterpreted.” In an interview with the Ukrainian channel 112 Ukraine in mid-August, the official called Andrei Stenin a spy and a “terrorist accomplice”, who was cold-bloodedly photographing the suffering of Ukrainian soldiers, adding that “hysteria around the name of Stenin” is irrelevant when each day sees the death of a dozen Ukrainian military servicemen. Andrei Stenin’s life, noted Herashenko, was not worth more than a life of a Ukrainian soldier…”

If Charles de Gaulle were still alive he would slap Hollande silly.
I tend to agree, Hollande appears to be alienating French voters and I’m sure M. Le Pen and Front National will become even more popular.
Meahwhile, Merkel is still engaged in lies and double-talk and now says punishing Russia (for the sins of Washington) is more important than the German economy or people. She cannot be more transparent: she takes orders from Washington. Maybe NSA has some dirt on her? Threats?
If I were German (or French) I would view Merkel and Hollande as traitors and risking military conflict. The historical irony is just too much…

You can take it as read that most political leaders, business tycoons and others in positions of power have skeletons in their closets. To some degree, it should be seen as being the norm because powerful people tend to want power for some reason or another, few seek it for abstract reasons because power without purpose means nothing.
So, you can be sure that pretty much every leader in Europe has a Black File held by several intelligence agencies around the world.
Given that blackmail and bribery are the preferred primary tools of US foreign influence I guess it says something about Putin that he appears to have no fear of kompramat (kompromentiruyuschy material)from the US and, given its use in Russia by Russian powers that be, nothing sticks in Russia either.
But Hollande? Yes, there’s something…

In the region of Ferrol, La Coruña province ( my father´s land ), northwest of Spain, there is a long tradition of naval, civil and military construction, with a well earned reputation, now about to disappear for lack of work. This sector was the engine of the region and its decline will ruin it. Workers spent more than a year fighting for their jobs.
I do not know if they could build these boats there, but if the Russians sent their engineers, these Galicians ( not be confused with Ucrainian Galicians )
could make these ships for sure. (Of course if puppet Rajoy does not interfere.
I’d love to see how explain Rajoy that having come Russians to give work to the shipyards have done something to prevent it. It could be the straw that broke the camel).

How the French do business – twitter and Instagram?
France suspends Mistral contract but has not officially informed buyer:
Russia’s initial response:
We have not received official notification …”we don’t slam doors, we close them but remain open for cooperation”
[.]MOSCOW, September 03 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian government has not received official notification from France on the plans to suspend the delivery to Russia of the first helicopter carrier in the Mistral family or on renunciation of commitment to the agreement, Oleg Bochkaryov, a deputy chairman of the governmental commission for defense manufacturing told Itar-Tass.
[.]“A contract with a precisely known French company exists and it was signed by a Russian state agency,” Bochkaryov said. “Legal consequences will spring up only when the French partners send an official paper to us saying they refuse to deliver the technology to us.”
He stressed Russia’s pertinent and scrupulous compliance with the terms of the contract.
“Our position is well-known – we don’t slam the doors, we close them but remain open for cooperation,” Bochkaryov said.[.]

Should Russia have sent peacekeepers into Ukraine months ago? Don’t think so.
Everything happening to date seems to demonstrate that this crisis was deliberately stoked as a means of damaging Russia and Russian economic relations with Europe. Along with the myriad provocations by the Kiev regime – including shelling inside the Russian border – NATO politicians and the media have, from the start, sought to establish the presence of Russian “invader” forces inside Ukraine borders. If the Russians had indeed done this, the “invasion” would have exploded into a predetermined crisis that would have played at the UN and the pages of the MSM in a hysteria matching 1991 Kuwait or 1978 Afghanistan (if not bigger). NATO wanted such a scenario very badly, but did not get it and has had to settle for rumours and allegations. In short, the full spectrum isolation that was planned for Russia after it could be revealed as an aggressive invader, has had to be downgraded to a series of half-hearted measures which lack public support. Further, NATO politicians and the MSM have weakened themselves by promoting hysteria without grounds – one day they will have lied a few too many times and be without credibility entirely.
I assume that Malaysia will ensure that the investigation re: MH17 will not fade to black, and if (as it might be assumed) the results show that all the finger pointing was completely wrong, then this will lift Russia’s stature – certainly outside of NATO countries – and do further damage to the credibility of the politicians and the MSM. For all its gullibility, the Western public does not appreciate being lied to and there are consequences for such schemes as the WMD fiasco.
There are lots of knowledgeable people on this blog. I need your help.
I try to understand who Kolomoisky is and what he stands for. What is the man doing? Why? Does he serve himself or somebody else? What do we really know about him?
I know he is an oligarch, but what sort of position does he have internationally? What is his relationship with Akhmetov? Poroshenko? The US?
So far, I have heard he finances his own security forces. He has troops fighting Novorossiya and they are said to be extremist and cruel. I have also heard he has his own Jewish international TV channel. He controls parts of Ukraine almost singlehandedly.
All contributions are welcome. He is a member of the one percent and we need to know more about him.
This is excellent news. It’d be far worse if Russians got the ship from the inherently unreliable source.
I sure hope the contract gets canceled, Russians get their money back, and spend it on their own R&D, instead of subsidising NATO MIC.
@ Lysander, If the french don’t deliver the ship they are signing the death warrant of their military industrial complex. Should they not deliver the ships this will mean that France’s defence platforms will be absorbed by the united states military industrial complex. Potential partners such as India and Brazil whom the french would like to cultivate relationships with are watching closely to gauge the level of reliability and independence of Paris with regards to the United states. Many of their current projects are struggling (not because of the great engineering and tech) it seems to me that if the Mistrals are not delivered the french elites are capitulatin and ready to be devoured whole by the american eagle !
Jony James, if De Gaulle was this there he would go on TV to speak to his “cher et vieux pays”, requesting Holland destitution “sur le champ” at least and maybe threatening to bomb Germany…
But he is no more there, and I am quite sure not a politician will dare to say a word. Putin is the vilain everywhere here.
Btw I’m living 20 km from NATO headquarters in Mons, and feel a bit concerned but dont know how all this will end… And Rafale is a nice bird (when not used at war), India wont buy it now, french industry will suffer a lot.

“Army of Ukraine close to total defeat and surrender. The fracture happened somewhere in the middle of August, when the army of the new Russia launched a counter-attack, successfully expanding influence in the region. Tens of thousands of killed and seriously wounded by the Ukrainian security forces, almost completely destroyed the aircraft, over 700 units destroyed heavy equipment (tanks, BTR, BMP, BMD, etc.) and another 200 given away as a trophy in favor of the new Russia. More detailed estimates of the losses of the Ukrainian army here. (see below)
If the igniter and resources enough, the ring closes, Mariupol will be taken and the Ukrainian army will be pushed outside of Donetsk. Tactical victory of the forces of DND and LNR, but for strategic triumph is still far away. It has nothing to do with the end of the war, because Ukraine will be rearranged mobilizes a couple of tens of thousands of people and then throw cannon fodder in the infernal cauldron, with the only difference being that the front of the war will be transferred to the Eastern district of Zaporozhye. Any weakening of the military Novorossia will create a channel for a breakthrough of Ukraine in Donetsk and back seat of war in early August. I.e. to keep the borders needs to be permanently fight and human sacrifice.
There are at least four scenarios:
1. The conflicting parties resolve the issue by diplomatic means
2. The front of the war transferred to Zaporozhye, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk, while the militia is not the intention of the capture of Kiev. Temporarily creates a buffer zone for DND and LNR.
3. The war ends with a storm of Kyiv.
4. The war ends with the destruction of Ukraine as a result of economic and military collapse. The impact can come from within…”

Before Putin arrived, Russia belonged much, much more to the ‘garbage bin’ than Europe today. The EU constitutes the largest, and certainly most advanced economy on the planet. Don’t write Europe off prematurily.
What is needed is someone who will kick american ass, out of Europe. Marine le Pen could be such a person. According to Paul Craig Roberts the US will be a third world country in a decade anyway. I have no long term worries about the US threat. China is the next super power and needs to be contained by the EU, Russia and European balkanized parts of the US as a junior partner.

It’s the best what could happen to Russia since the situation has changed dramatically – I don’t see a country next to Russia where it can be deployed without risking losing it. It’s useful off Libya or Syria but you will get into a lot of trouble using it off Odessa. So France has done Russia a big favour. Russia needs smaller carriers which can defend themselves against attacks. 2 or 3 modern Kuznetsov’s carriers would be much more useful.
We found a new source of energy here in France.
Just go to Colombey-les-deux-églises, De Gaulle’s native village, where the poor General is busy spinning in his grave, connect to a generator…

I agree with the Saker that the decision will probably be reversed: quite many people in French industry and diplomacy are serious enough to pressure for the contract execution to be resumed.
But waiting for that… What is left except irony?

Well, this was his last chance to make us French believe he had something in the head and in the pants, and he proved he had not.
This means the loss of the 126 Rafale sale to India (who would trust France?), excellent planes US always prevented us to sell (well, for Switzerland, I would say they really didn’t need them, but others did). Once more…
The US have done so much to prevent us from selling Rafale, that I suspect this may be the decisive reason for extreme pressure.
Ah, and a friend read somewhere the Ukies had asked France to give them the ships for free, is it true? Russia has returned them their ships after the union with Crimea, and Ukies are not even able to use them…

Ever see a street fight where two guys square off?
Maybe a school yard fight, two guys go at it.
Russia versus NATO is a street fight.
My experience in younger days was usually like this:
One guy, the animal-pugilist-predator whips his shirt off. He’s built for a fight. Muscles and sweat, awesome, lithe, wild flailing arms, fire in his eyes, foul mouth spitting taunts at his opponent.
The opponent is one of two types. The first is the patsy. He can’t figure out how to get out of the encircling crowd, partisans of the other guy, maybe a few passive, timid friends of his cheering him on to win. (The patsy will get his face busted up, maybe some ribs broken when he falls down and gets kicked. Maybe badly hurt. Hopitalized).
The other type to join the fight is calm. Doesn’t necessarily go bare-chested himself. He says little or nothing. He waits for the inevitable charge.
Then he lands punch after punch on the predator who started it, grabs him in a headlock with one arm and pounds him with the other until submission or intervention saves the guy who started it. The bully is beaten.
That’s NATO and Russia.
Someone is going to get into a headlock and get his face, body and ass pounded into submission.
I’ve been there, I’ve also seen these fights from outside, they always end one way or the other depending only if the prey is a patsy.
In fact, one night I saw two predators get taken apart by one calm guy who knew how to fight both.
A few years back, Russia might have been easy to take. A patsy.
This streetfight is about to draw blood. I believe that no one can get the two to not fight. It is a test that must be made. One side wants the other to be seriously hurt.
Whether its a Rapid Reaction Force or the Mercenaries clustering in Hungary or Poles, NATO wants a piece of Russian flesh and some Putin blood.
When NATO charges across the steppes, it will get its ass kicked and that will be the end of NATO. Not any other way.
Russia needs to face the inevitable. Put the nice guy talk down. The bully needs its ass kicked into submission.
It’s a streetlight.
Meanwhile, Russia needs to use the Novorossiyan Army to dismantle Kiev, the junta, Ukraine, Banderastan and whatever proxies enter the battlefield.
When NATO finally charges, kick ass, Vlad. I’m holding your jacket.
Very unkind to blue green algae Saker!

Social Democracy in Europe is deader than the Democratic Party in the US. I hope Hollandes “approval” rating drops from 17% to single digits.

To the delight of U.S. hardliners France has “postponed” the delivery of the two helicopter carrier of the Mistral type to Russia. The Russians will be happy about that. Such carriers are useful in small conflicts against minor enemies but Russia has now again to prepare for larger ones. The deal (once given to Sarkozy for his help in the 2008 Georgia conflict) included several ships some of them to be build in Russia. As part of the deal a shipyard in Russia has been modernized for the project and that important work has been finished. Russia can now (again) build such ships on its own.
If the two ships from France get not finally delivered Russia will demand back some €600 million already paid and a €1.2 billion contractual penalty. Without the Russia deal France may also have to close its shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. To hold back the ships is a terrible deal for France but president Hollande’s poll rating is already so bad that the further drop in the polls for kissing Obama’s ass will likely be irrelevant.

What makes you think they will return the money for the ships?

Then you seize it from France deposits in Russia. Add a couple billion Francs extra as “convenience fee”
From Reuters Propaganda:
French banks have about $50 billion (30 billion pounds) of loans to Russia’s public sector, companies and individuals, according to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), accounting for a fifth of foreign lending there and more than banks from any other country.

Is the above what it will take for Putin to quit playing footsy with Pol Pot Shenko, Lie-stinko and Yat the Rat?
These captchas are terrible today.

“Ah, and a friend read somewhere the Ukies had asked France to give them the ships for free, is it true?”
It must be true. Ukrainians love nothing more than “free” stuff (or “khalyava” in Russian). In fact, the only reason they hate their far more successful cousins (the Russians) today is because Putin refuses to subsidize them anymore. Hence the hectic search for a new “sponsor”.
Paying for even the most essential goods is excruciatingly painful experience for an average Ukrainian, and usually takes place only after all of the delaying tactics fail to produce results.
Historically, Ukrainians are far likely to resist making a timely payment than a foreign invasion.
In need of the ice bucket. Some sanity please. USEU dumped any talk of de-escalating. We are off to greet WW3:
Is US-led NATO about to cross Russia’s Red Line–Germany sending aid in the open for all to see?
RT:
Obama hints at NATO membership for Ukraine, urges military support
Barack Obama says the “door to NATO membership will remain open” for new members, while also urging the organization to help strengthen Ukraine’s military. Germany has promised to send non-lethal aid, such as bullet proof vests and medical supplies.
Speaking in Estonia, Obama did not explicitly point to Ukraine when referring to expanding NATO membership to other nations. However, the underlying message was clear for all to see, as he accused Russia of a “brazen assault” on Ukraine.
[.] Obama’s comments came after Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said he wanted his country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization saying, “Russia is a terrorist state, it is an aggressor state and will bear responsibility under international law.”

I sure hope the contract gets canceled, Russians get their money back, and spend it on their own R&D, instead of subsidising NATO MIC.
indeed, dig deeper and excellent news.

Another soft testicle: Shaun Walker of ‘The Guardian’. Shaun, I know reading Vineyard Saker would be a little too ‘conspiracy site’ for you. But – instead of reprinting Kiev press releases – and getting played by Russian intelligence, over and over (it is the RF that creates the paper-thin ‘Russian troops in Ukraine’ ‘evidence’ that Kiev and The Guardain cannot resist, and then backfires daily among the readers and commenters) – instead of wasting your time trying to aid and abet WWIV (and I know you won’t be volunteering on the front lines for the glorious UK) – spend a few minutes each day reading Colonel Cassad. There you will find REAL EVIDENCE OF RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE WITH THE SOVEREIGN STATE OF UKRAINE. Directly admitted, see the references to the ‘military surplus store’. And – if you can handle it – real news of the war, if biased to the rebel cause.
Yeah, I know you’re not a ‘journalist’, whatever that means. Wait, I mean, you want to be a journalist. Wait, you are a journalist. Whatever. I don’t think you’re smart enough to be an intelligence operative. But you’re certainly an asset – an asset of the RF, not the UK.
Anybody of average intelligence is figuring out using Twitter and a couple of blogs.
I know this is a waste of time but always feels good to call a spade a spade, especially when dealing with entities like The Guardian.
I am French and I agree with what you wrote, Hollande isn’t respected at all by the french people, we hate d sarkozy for his atlantist policies and for being Merkel’s best Herr Ober, Hollande is following his prints, but as a sad clown
soft testicle in french “couilles-molles”
I was depressed between Gaza genocide and the retreat from Slavyansk that I was almost catatonic. Now I always like to follow my daily diet of Saker with reading Col. Cassad.
I look forward to the daily Trophies report and am steeled to how righteous the NAF are in the face of murdered civilians. In America we only see dead bodies in video games.
I imagine many of us Saker fans also check the Colonel daily.
Have any of you seen in some of the trophy photos a picture of a plush toy that looks like a little rabbit with pink ears or some such they place on a tank turret. Hilarious.
http://cassad-eng.livejournal.com/78378.html
Scroll down 2/3 of the way through the photo gallery to see what I am talking about. There are nearly a dozen. I laughed out loud at the ludicrous optimism of such a grim setting.
Is there a way to get a request to the Noble Novorossiyan liberators to please place this little toy in as many trophies as possible when they take their photos for upload?
We are behind them 100% they are a positive hope in fighting against Obama’s Neoliberal/Neocon universal slavery
Speaking of Putin’s peace plan for Ukraine, V. Putin ought to understand these simple facts:
1. Mediators, who “are not part of the conflict,” normally cannot and should not make decisions for the parties to the conflict themselves.
2. No matter how great a plan Russia can propose, the current regime in Kiev feels obliged to reject anything coming from Moscow or Putin short of surrender.
3. The Kiev junta not only feels obliged to reject officially anything coming from Putin and Russia whom they label as their mortal enemy and aggressor, but the White House, which controls the junta, makes sure that the Nazi junta does just that. The US wants no reconciliation between Russia and Ukraine. The Obama administration works hard to achieve the very opposite.
4. And when it comes to the Obama administration, it too is bound and chained to the position of rejecting any Russian peace plan for political and propagandist reasons–unless it is unconditional surrender and, if possible, Russia’s demise.
5. In this situation, it means that if Putin or Russia do make some peace initiative or plan, they need to take into consideration the audience, of which they have thought so far the least as their principal recipients: a) the people of Novorossiya broadly defined, b) the Russian people themselves, and c) their existing and potential allies and friends. Had this been the case, then the Russian government would have shown much greater sensitivity to the political situation and needs of the people of Novorossiya and/or it might have even consulted them before making any overture to Poroshenko and the Kiev junta.
I think you are doing Hollande and the French a disservice. He seems to have pulled off a pretty good trick and the clue is in the timing.
Note the NATO meeting starting Thursday. Now the French will be heros not villans.
Note Russia has had no contractual notification. They know this is political ‘puff’.
That carrier, which already has its Russian crew on board, will leave France pretty much on time.
As to future contracts, if I am correct they will have shown to potential customers that, even under huge duress, they still honour contracts. Bit like Russia really.

Alexander Mercouris has just written a brilliant analysis of the various recent diplomatic announcements, and he includes the Mistral ploy. Sadly, it’s all in Facebook, that walled garden. I can’t find him reposted anywhere else, and it’s far too long to copy and paste here.
I appear as myself in Facebook and I’m not inclined to break cover especially, although I may have to soon just to applaud Mercouris on his recent analyses. He also wrote brilliantly on the Minsk talks a few days ago (also in Facebook).
Here’s his analysis:

Snippets:
” the junta and its western backers now face the critical problem of how they are going to sell news of their ending of the war in conditions of total defeat to the Maidan movement and to the Ukrainian people as a whole.
The way they are trying to do this and to square this circle is as follows:
1. Firstly, they are trying to preserve the fiction that their war is with Russia rather than with the people of the Donbas and the NAF. It is far easier to admit defeat at the hands of Russia than at what began as a lightly armed self defence force just 4 months ago; and
2. Secondly by trying to achieve through diplomacy a peace settlement that preserves the appearance of Ukrainian sovereignty over the Donbas thereby letting the junta claim that the integrity of the Ukrainian state has been preserved.
If one understands this then the strange diplomatic moves we have seen over the last two days begin to make sense.”
[…]
“Putin is having none of it. He has made it absolutely clear over the course of the day that he did not agree a ceasefire with Poroshenko and that if Poroshenko does genuinely want a ceasefire he must agree it not with Russia but with the NAF. By publishing his ceasefire proposals Putin has also made clear that he supports the NAF’s demand for a total withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donbas as a condition for a ceasefire. Indirectly, by limiting himself to technical discussions about a ceasefire, Putin has also made clear that he and Russia are not prepared to get involved in political discussions about the Donbas’s future and that as he previously said in Minsk this is something that will have to be negotiated directly with the NAF instead. Those who expect Putin to put pressure on the NAF to accept something less than full independence are on the evidence of the last few weeks likely to be disappointed.
In other words Putin is denying Poroshenko any hope of saving face by stripping him of even the appearance of wriggle room. That explains the dismayed reaction in Kiev to today’s developments with all the wild talk from Yatsenyuk & co of “frozen conflicts” that we have been hearing over the course of the day. It also explains the desperate attempt to put pressure on Putin by Poroshenko’s western backers by suspending completion of the Mistral sale.”
Apart from Europe’s duplicity in Ukraine it is important to understand that they have their head in the lion’s mouth. Generations have been steeped in the fiction of the indispensable american partner guaranteeing their prosperity and security. And the Europeans are NOT innocent. They partnered with America in bleeding Africa and South America and were perfectly happy to do so. Now their US boss has demanded the ultimate sacrifice “Will you die for me?” And apparently they are willing to do even that. But they are to be pitied not reviled. Theirs is a cautionary tale that Russia should heed. But for the emergence of genuine Russian led development, Russia would be no different.
Every attempt at independent development in Europe, like de Gaulle wanted for France or Enrico Mattei did for Italy, was crushed. The current leaders are the ones who accepted their inferior status. Think of their humiliation and of their hatred for Russia. They capitulated and became slaves, Russia did not. And for their obscene obedience they are spied on by NSA, had their gold stolen by USA and been a willing host for the US parasite for a least a generation. You cannot expect that now they will show independence, even at the cost of their own economic suicide. To do so now would repudiate all that they have accepted-and they could not possibly do that.
So Europe will continue in its inexorable slide until they find their own Putin. God may bless them to find one, but he would be a man without honour, attacked and hated until the truth of his conviction can no longer be denied. All Russia must do now is stand firm. Evil is inherently weak, that is why it cannot last. Good, in the end, will triumph.

elsi,
That is an impressive vessel, but two things come to mind.
The empire would not allow it to be delivered either.
War toys that try to be all things to all people have quite a history of being bitter disappointments. It could well turn out to be to naval warfare what the F-111 and F-35 have been to aerial warfare. And wouldn’t you know, the Venusians of Oz bought that lead balloon as well.
