He’s a lunatic, so is his father. I am Palestinian and anti-Zionist and anti-Western Imperialism and I am disgusted by how some “leftists” are turning a blind eye to Qadhafi’s crimes and tarnishing the image of the protesters because they think that taking a stand against Qadhafi puts them in the US “camp” so that’s what I think. Long Live Libya and the Arab people.
The popular movement in Libya failed to protect their country from the United States designs – and slid into a civil war of sorts. This does not mean that the movement at its inception was not something important and desirable… now, because of this failure, the US is getting ready to grab Libya. At this point it is not about Gaddafi, it is about protecting Libya’s integrity, and it is about preventing imperialist grab of another mid-east country.
The best way forward is Chavez’s proposal – and this may very well mean that the popular movement (if indeed we assume that that is what it is…) will have to compromise. Otherwise, they will hand Libya over to the imperialists – and if they are willing to do that – then they are not at all popular and are indeed in the US’s camp.
Chavez as a friend of the dictator has no legitimacy to meddle in Libya. Neither does anyone in the West, the only ones that the Libyans will accept interference from would be an Arab force. To the people saying Libyans don’t have it that bad, when you live under a criminal dictatorship for 42 years run by a mafia family maybe then you will have legitimacy to opine. How dare anyone else not living under those conditions dare say what Libyans should continue to tolerate, especially after witnessing the crimes these animals have committed against their own people and the lunatic talk about nescafe and drugs and the screaming at his people that they are rats. I have always considered myself to be what I would describe an “extreme leftist” and have always stood solidly behind anyone that wants justice-. I am beyond disgusted watching as non-Arabs sit and talk amongst themselves with Arabs should be liberated from tyranny and oppression and which shouldn’t. Screw Chavez and everyone else that doesn’t support the aspirations of Arabs. My hope is that the new Egypt and eventually the new Palestine will cease diplomatic relations with everyone that never supported their rights to freedom–that means the U.S. and for Libya may they sever all ties with the crappy Eastern European and Latin Americans that decided their friendship and collusion with Libya was more important than the aspirations of millions of people. Disgusting!
To all you leftists that are so concerned and interested in social justice go find a Libyan and then explain to them why they should accept how they are being slaughtered, tell them to accept another 42 years of Qadhafi family mafia rule so that they don’t help the Western Imperial project. When you get their permission and acceptance then please come here and pontificate to us about the best course of action to defeat the western imperialist project online from the safety of your homes.
And just because the per capita income of Libya is more than Morocco and the Moroccans have not rebelled does that mean Libyans should sit idle? The per capita income of the Zionist usurping entity is 30K and they don’t have half of the natural resources that Libya has so why shouldn’t Libyans compare with that instead (to use your weak argument).
I am shocked at the statment by anonymous (post #2) doubting whether this is a popular movement and the need to compromise. Have any of you learned anything from the two previous uprisings in the region. Do you know anything about the lunatic Qadhaffi’s repressive regime and the mountain of hurt that he inflicted on his population. You want to Turn Libya into a pawn in the fight against imperialist aspirations? I mean, doubtless this is still a legitimate goal, but a more pressing goal is the removal and the bringing to justice of this tyrant criminal. To accept that the Libyan people continue to live under his or his son’s rule lest Libya be handed over to American jackals is very short-sighted, callous and simply not true.
If a popular movement fails to protect the population against an imperialist take over – then it is no longer a popular movement, but one that has been taken over by the imperialists. And if there is indeed such a “popular movement” that allows itself to be taken over by imperialists (multiple reasons) – then it is no longer an internal Libyan issue. A possible imperial takeover of Libya will impact everyone, especially those of the region.
At this time the people of the region do not have a representation, so to speak of “Arab force” is to speak of either the US/Zio trained military, or some other force that does not exist at this time. An armed “people’s army” would have to be developed over time, they don’t appear out of nowhere.
It appears more and more, frankly, that the Libyan movement has indeed been a target of cooption by the imperialists, and that they have been successful to a significant extent. The way to prevent Libya from falling into the hands of the imperialists, is indeed to have a peace conference, as recommended by the ALBA nations.
I, by the way, do not consider myself a leftist. Nor do I care for Qadaffi – what I do care about is the designs of the imperialists on Libya – and the impact that will have on the rest of the planet. And this aspect is very much my business, as it should be of anyone truly concerned about the people of the region and the world.
I don’t think that anyone can claim that the Western forces have hijacked anything just yet and it appears that the Libyan opposition to Qadhafi are also aware of the implications of Western intervention and though I know the moderator asked to not cut and paste, still:
Libyan rebels seize British SAS troops – report LONDON (Reuters) – Libyan rebels have captured a special forces unit in the east of the country after a secret diplomatic mission to make contact with opposition leaders backfired, the Sunday Times reported. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/03/06/uk-britain-libya-sas-idUKTRE72507C20110306
Please have a little faith. After what we’ve seen in Tunisia and Egypt, it should be obvious that a nation that has recently broken itself off of the shackles of deranged arrogant and murderous tyrants cannot be easily occupied by western imperialist forces especially when these last ones are mired in incomplete projects in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It is not about having “faith” but about the actual situation on the ground. What I see is a civil war, not necessarily an uprising of the nature of Tunisia and Egypt – as much as I hate to agree with Saif al-Islam, I think he has made some valid points.
We’ll see how this pans out… The capture of the Britishers is a good move, and I hope that the opposition will keep them prisoners until such time that this all sorts itself out, and also makes it clear that they’ll also be arresting other such infiltrators.

Libya average national income 15,000 us. Morocco nation average income 2500 us?
I don’t think Libyans have had it that bad.
