In my previous post, I mentioned that western leaders are going through a clear phase of self-delusion and panic. I want to add a short comment about the self-delusion part.
I am amazed, absolutely amazed, at the fact that EU politicians, and the MSM which serves them, are still seriously discussing the adoption of even more sanctions against Russia when it is absolutely, totally and undeniably obvious that:
a) there is no proof of a Russian intervention, nevermind invasion, of the Ukraine.
b) that there is exactly zero chance that EU sanction will even marginally impact the Kremlin’s decision making.
c) that the EU simply cannot afford the inevitable counter-sanctions which Russia will retaliate with.
It is generally accepted that “politics is the art of the possible” and yet the EU leaders are clearly engaged in the art of the absolutely impossible. The fact that they are all pretending like this is going to have some useful impact is truly a sign of how much the EU leadership has degenerated over the years. Can you imagine Helmut Schmidt, Charles de Gaulle, Margaret Thatcher, François Mitterrand or Francisco Franco engaging in that kind of infantile nonsense? All these leaders had their bad aspects, but at least none of them were clowns, whereas when I look at the current EU leadership, especially Van Rumpey, Adners Fogh Rasmussen or José Manuel Barroso I get the feeling that I am looking at some ugly kindergarten of intellectually challenged clowns and, frankly, I can understand Mrs Nuland’s feelings.
Truly the EU has degenerated to a point of no return. Hollande can play Mitterrand, but he is no better at that than Quayle was at playing Kennedy. Why in the world the folks in east-central Europe would want to join such a terminally pathetic community is truly beyond me.
I often wonder – has everybody just gone blind?
Why doesn’t everybody see that which is so obvious?
Don’t they realize that the men in the Kremlin are real, tough and principled men who will only feel disgust and amusement when challenged by such non-entities whom the Mayor of London so aptly referred to as the “great supine protoplasmic invertebrate jellies“.
There is a saying in Russian: “to try to scare a hedgehog with a naked butt“. This is what the EU is doing now. They are trying to scare Russia with sanctions which will painfully end up hurting the EU.
There is another saying in Russian:”to love the courageous/brave man in the Tatar“. It means that you can love/admire courage/bravery even in your mortal enemy. To the Russian people the *culture of empty threats* coming out of the EU is simply not worthy of respect. And the fact that the one cause the Europeans love to get most vocal and indignant about is the one “gay” “rights” most certainly does not help.
In the past, the western enemies of Russia – the Papacy, the Masons, the Empires and even the Nazis – all were formidable in their own way. Maybe the Russians did not fear them, but they often sincerely admired them (the French) or, at least, admired their courage (the Germans). These were worthy enemies.
But now Russia looks at the EU with a total sense of disgust and I would even argue that the Russians have far more respect for the USA than for the EU. For example, Russian commentators often make the point that the western sanctions against Russian only hurt Europe, not the USA. And while they like to make fun of individual US politicians, they also admit that the US has superbly manipulated the EU and the Ukrainian elites. And NATO can now threaten to create a rapid deployment force of 10’000 men, but you can be sure that the priority of the GRU will be to keep an eye on US forces, not on the EU clowns in combat fatigues.
I have left Europe 12 years ago so I really don’t know, but I often wonder: do the Europeans realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? Do they see that they are lead by non-entities, “office plankton in suits”, pathetic intellectually challenged clowns?
On another note, I often speak of the Ukie “freaks”. But there is one guy which I personally find very likable on a personal, human level. I might shock you, but regardless of his crazy ideas, as a person Dmitri Iarosh seems to be a very nice guy. I have recently watched an hour long interview of him (here, but it is in Ukrainian) and I could not help finding him very likable. He has a very charming and a little bit shy smile and he is not pretentious at all. He does not even seem to be hateful in the way that, say, Tymoshenko or Poroshenko are. I certainly would welcome the opportunity to talk to him, even if after our conversation I end up slitting his throat. But when I see Van Rumpey or Rasmussen I think of yet another Russian expression: “this face begs for a brick“. To them I have nothing to say at all.
Anyway, I just felt like sharing these most subjective musings with you.
Good night and have a wonderful Sunday!
The Saker
Short of believing that Merkel is an FSB agent working to prolong the Ukraine crisis on behalf of the project of destruction of the EU and the US . . . the most likely explanation is simply the death spiral of capitalism, in its current neofascist, neoliberal stage.
Merkel, Obama, Poroshenko et. al. are dangerous – but as individuals they are merely instruments of capital.
Putin and Strelkov are starting to look like the Castro and Che of the current era, and this time, the stakes are higher.
Multi-polarity is decentralized power, and using the internet, we can achieve a future that not only respects nations and cultures, but puts power back in the hands of the people – communities, soviets, individuals.
I look forward to the destruction of the EU and the USA and only regret that the population of the state formation known as Ukraine will have to pay the price in blood for the crimes of the main Nazis on Wall Street, in London, DC, Tel Aviv, Berlin . . .
The EU’s moronic performance is reminiscent of Bart in the epic movie ‘Blazing Saddles’.
Bart takes himself hostage and threatens to shoot himself.
Real life for the EU is unlikely to be as successful as the movies.
I guess the only way to bring Europe and the Ukraine to its senses is the last resort – cut off their gas supply. It is the right time now – winter is coming, and those idiots play games.
I think you have a rather unfounded appreciation of US elites, saker, though I concede you this: in comparison with Europe’s, they might indeed seem giants.
They however fit the definition of idiocy, repeating the same mistakes that prove so unfailingly disastrous, over and over, the inability to learn from their mistakes.
However, for a country that can only successfully invade Grenada or Panama, they are very good at destroying other countries, however, at the level of very destructive children.

The current EU and Nato leaders are not of the “nation building” class, they attend for personal agendas such as money and power positions after their terms run out. Voters and elections are frowned upon as necessary evils in order to keep the cloak of democracy plausible.
I am very curios as where the present gang will end up next year. Then we will see who their real masters was.
This is one of the rare cases I have to disagree with you about something I consider important. Gay rights… well, let’s not frame it that way. Let’s frame it as, “No one has the right to tell others how to live, especially government.”
I live in California and many of my friends are gay and strongly believe in gay marriage. As for myself, I’m an ex-christian who finds a lot of spiritual support in Buddhism. Nevertheless, I’ve been an avid reader of your blog and hopeful supporter of the Novorossian cause ever since I saw it linked on Zero Hedge.
I think you’ll find that’s true throughout the West – that the people most intellectually inoculated against Russophobic propaganda are also people with idiosyncratic personalities and viewpoints. And sometimes it’s difficult for me to see mainstream Christianity as just another propaganda outlet, but one that lies about God instead of lying about war and politics like our television stations are so fond of doing. I’m not sure what I mean by this post other than to suggest, “Don’t spurn friends where you can get them.”
hilarious. refreshing post, echoes my sentiments exactly. how can people be so blind?
“I have left Europe 12 years ago so I really don’t know, but I often wonder: do the Europeans realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? Do they see that they are lead by non-entities, “office plankton in suits”, pathetic intellectually challenged clowns?”
I have left the USA 22 yrs ago and I wonder do the Amis realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? Sorry to say mate, it’s the same on both sides of the pond. The inmates are in charge of the asylum. As I’ve been reading, it is the end of the Kali Yuga, that may help explain it. :)
@saker:
Dmitri Iarosh – the nazi – sure he is cute and sexually attractive. And so were other nazis in the past!
So what? I still would not have sex with him but make sure he will never get out of prison again because he is a criminal and murderer. And THAT makes him unlikeable.
A gay fellow from Germany
Now Reuters and the UK Torygraph are reporting Moscow’s demands that the MH17 flight recorder audio be released as soon as possible. I wonder if things are starting to turn in MSM just a bit…?

For some reason, this specific segment resonates on several levels. Having studied and researched Yarosh (Iarosh) quite intensively over the past several months specifically and based upon the way the majority of Canuck-Ukies seem to play down his relevance feverishly shows that he is a force to be reckoned with. His “down to earth” demeanor is why the Right Sector has such a strong following.
Just an odd opinion, or maybe hypothesis that many may discount, but he will be the one that takes down the Kiev Junta. It seems only a matter of time that he will lead his army West to assure that the EU/US/NATO faction does not control Ukraine. At that point, they will mobilize their “cells” within the Western spheres to depose the neocons and their globalist vassals from power. It may be an initial hard sell, but like you mentioned he is rather likable to a great degree, especially his loyalty to his convictions. Unlike many other nationalists, he does not hide his agenda or motivation, nor does he spin lies of deception. In a way he is one of the very few that speaks “truth to power” as he sees it.
To illustrate the fear that the neocons have is daring to cross him, one only needs to read between the lines when they are questioned. While this argument may not seem very convincing to the vast majority, just take a quick gander at the following clip. It may not seem like much to the naked eye, so to speak, but the gut feeling deep down is that it speaks volumes.

“do the Europeans realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? “
Some of them do, that is why they are here ;-/
Most don’t read or speak english and most are not interested by politics.
To their discharge the media does not tell them much about it. Politicians are more interested in polls and marketing than they are about the history and the future of their country. I watched the “Journal de 13h”, last friday, when there was the photos of the “invasion” presented by OTAN. They told about Ukraine for 10 seconds, it was Ok because they only show the ukies destructions and give the comment of Putin saying it was like Leningrad in the forties. 10 seconds in a 3/4 h of the journal, the rest was mainly for the weather, the end of holidays and so on. No politic ever, it has became persons “values” (what an empty word !) struggles no more ideas struggles, no International news as well.
French media are here to push the growing of the economy, that’s all their job now.
We’ve seen the pathetic image of Holland under the Brittany heavy rain, there was nobody to hand a simple umbrella over him or they did not thought to find a dry place for him. That man, which loves to use polls instead of ideas for his politic is at about 10% of satisfied people. But it is not because of his international work which is mostly never discussed.
That’s why they want war : they are in a deadlock, they hope that war will unite the people behind them et they want to trust that the USA will come at the end to rescue them and their country. Because they have seen it so so much times in TV series or movies. Because around them, all of their advisors, all the mainstream media, even most of their opponents think like that. And they won’t listen anybody, actually nobody, that could disrupt their way of thinking.
Very very sad.
And in the last 10 years they changed the most people possible in the ministries (foreign affaires, interior, secret services, economy), all are now devoted to the EU, US (and Israel). Their country, their people, is now second in their minds. Marketing will bring them success in next election, anyway ..
Well, the europoors got trolled again to do the dirty job for the “real” West
Adios UE, no one on this side of the Atlantic will miss you

My first comment here.
I won’t contradict you. The arrogance and I-am-the-better-guy feeling amongst the EU politicians leads to stupidity.
But I need to add, I prefer my little home country Belgium and I wouldn’t like to live in Russia or Ukraine. Both remain underdeveloped as well economically, politically as socially and without gas and oil Russia would be nowhere. Tsars, communist, Putin, … when will real progress ever come?
The entire EU-EU establishment is in a state of total collapse. They just don’t know when to stop. It’s like a zombie apocalypse with boring zombies.
The EU meets to discuss a Russian “invasion” of Ukraine that we now know was based on a translation error (Information Clearning House). That shouldn’t stop the EU from acting based on the intitial charge. After all, the EU’s first sanctions were predicated on Resistance/Russian complicity in the downing of MH17.
Never fear, Tony Blair is there for the Poroshenko-Nazi gang. He now has even more credentials as a deviant with cover up charges regarding one of his ministers (See here). Quite a guy and quite the right choice for Ukraine’s interests.
“… ugly kindergarten of intellectually challenged clowns and, frankly, I can understand Mrs Nuland’s feelings.”
Now, I can also understand why she used the F word!
Thanks, Saker!
“[…] do the Europeans realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? Do they see that they are lead by non-entities, “office plankton in suits”, pathetic intellectually challenged clowns?”
In France, we know about our wannabee President (check his record low popularity rates). But regarding the EU pseudo “leaders”, there is too much ignorance. As far as I know, only one political party has a coherent point of view on how harmful these “clowns” are, it’s François Asselineau’s UPR — victim of an almost complete censorship from the mainstream media. UPR develops only through the internet and local radios. François Asselineau’s conferences (only in french, unfortunately) on how and why the EU project came to life are enlightning.
Hello from Poland.
My take: by choosing Donald Tusk EU might have sealed its fate. They might proceed with further sanctions and escalations regardless of damage they do to their own economies. Since collapse of Soviet Union all major political powers in Poland tend to place Uncle Sam interests far above those of whole nation and economy. Involvement in (illegal) Iraq war, illegal CIA detention facilities, pushing ACTA down EU throat, now pushing whole EU into Ukraine fiasco to name a few.
Since 2010 this has been greatly magnified when Uncle Sam proceeded with character assassination and subsequent murder of Andrew Lepper – politician who disclosed illegal detentions and tortures of Arabs by CIA in a facility located in Poland. They did an example from him (‘american style’) and since then all politicians complied.
Latest Ukraine fiasco (along with huge propaganda campaign in our media) shows that Tusk and Sikorski are keen to cause not only huge damages but even destroy whole country by pushing whole nation into war with Russia if US demands so. Now that ruling party is rapidly dropping in polls and its leader Donald Tusk is evacuating to EU (effectively abandoning his own party and leaving this whole mess to someone else) I see even worse times ahead. First, Tusk will pursue the same detrimental policies on EU which will magnify all this suicidal stupidity EU elites are pursuing now. Second, our ruling party arch-enemy (J. Kaczynski) is not only more russofobic but also dictatorial. This might be move to use Poles as cannon fodder just after Uncle Sam runs out of Ukrainians. Junta led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski will happily force everyone to fight ‘bad russkies’ if such order comes from Washington. Given sheer amount of anti-russian propaganda citizens of Poland receive about Russia, many people are already conditioned to it. Final push to WW3 will be – if it comes to – led by Poland on behalf of Uncle Sam. I’m ashamed of my country.
Fortunately, The Seattle Times brings us; ‘With war under way in Ukraine, Russians don’t like what little they learn [with a whopping 13 trackers], because where would we be without MSM’s truthful reporting?
The Fogh of Ras- War @ work.
That is one brilliant piece of analysis and judgement about Europe. But, to the extent the the UK is also (still) a member of the EU, your quote from Boris Johnson (London Mayor), whilst accurate so far as it goes, does not include the greatest supine protoplasmic invertebrate jelly of them all – namely his own party leader David Cameron. Believe me, he is is at least as worthy of contempt as Barrosso, van Rumpuy and the others.
Also, make no mistake, Johnson, whilst always eminently quotable as an ambitious man who cultivates a sort of lovable clown image as cover, is also four-square behind current Anglo-US-NATO policy vis-a-vis Russa/Ukraine. In fact he is something of a cheerleader for it.
I really do despair for where all this is leading because there has been absolutely NO slackening in the evidence-free demonising of Russia these past 6 months. Today’s papers are again chock full of it with absolutely NO exposure to the Russia point of view whatsoever.
Reason is clearly not going to prevail (Why the total silence from Malaysia on the burying of the MH17 evidence for example?)and I fear we remain on course for major West -v- Russia military hostilities with all the catastrophic dangers that implies
There is a lot you do not know about Thatcher the milk snatcher. Saker you have led a sheltered life. She was evil.

From France, but I guess its the same all arround, nobody believe the politicians, and everybody know that Brussels is full of financial robbers. Democracy is gone long ago, and now is the time of communication.
My point is that when Geobbels launched its propaganda, it was done to blind the people, but decisions and policies was still according to reality.
Today, the people know about all those lies, but the decision are done according to the propaganda. That’s why it seems so unreal, and stupid : they live in a virtual world where communication replaced the reality.
Add corruption and incompetence…
He seems like a “nice guy”? What a silly superficial thing to say. I care not whether someone is nice per say. What I do care for though is if they are a GOOD person. Notice the difference: If a car is about to hit you and I push you out of the way while exclaiming “GET THE F*** OUTTA THE WAY!!” Am I being nice? Of course not. But I am being GOOD.
The policy of Yarosh is the extermination and ethnic cleansing of Russophone population of Donbass, and you see fit to mention this “nice” stuff. Stop.
This type of ‘he seems nice’ speaks of the same superficial ’empire of illusions’ stuff you supposedly decry. Please stop.
Read “The Making of Global Capitalism” by Panitch and Gindin. They’re marxians but until the conclusion everything in the book is a matter of public record. A masterful academic work. Explains a few things, including how from Marshal Plan to the EU the US has been remaking Europe in its own image. The Fed & Treasury make the decisions, the EU implements them. That’s what it’s for.
I’m always surprised that interesting traditionalists decry “cultural marxism” in the west. If they actually got familiar with Marxian economics and the Frankfurt school they’d find powerful analytical tools to criticize the real enemy, the real overthrower of traditional regimes, the bourgeoisie. What’s anti-traditionalist about critiques like “crisis theory,” “The Culture Industry” and “Instrumental Rationality?”
Every great, long-lasting civilization has explicitly aimed to keep its bourgeoisie under control, because being a sociopath is incumbent upon successful members of that grouping, e.g. Kolomisky. That includes Eastern Rome, China, the Caliphates, Christian Feudalism, etc.
Europeans have become pussies because of:
– absence of war for 70 years
– economic prosperity since 1960
– living under the US umbrella since 1945, a situation they have grown to accept and made them lazy
– paralysed by a guilt complex injected by largely fake Nuremberg show trials
– small countries are no breeding ground for formidable people. Germany is the exception, but has been raped twice and is still occupied and mentally heavily damaged and demoralized by incessant demonisation, first and foremost by the zionist run US.
Furthermore, EU unity is largely cosmetic. Europe is still a collection of 26 or so countries, that can be easily manipulated by larger tax farms like Russia, US or soon China.

Dear Saker,
This posting of mine has nothing to do with Europe or the Ukraine, although those are usually the topics that attract me to your site. But recently you ventured into the turbid and brackish thicket of race relations in the U.S., which shows either great courage or possibly a great lack of prudence, as wading into that unforgiving subject is bound to alienate a significant portion of your readers, and indeed I saw by some of the accompanying comments that some of them were seriously offended by the Nora piece.
This is a headline that appeared in today’s New York Times, connected with the Ferguson events.
By John Martin
“Democrats are trying to mobilize African-Americans outraged by the shooting in Ferguson, Mo., to help them retain control of at least one chamber of Congress.”
To me, that pretty much says it all. Victimization is a profitable industry in the U.S., and both victimizer (white Democrats), and the alleged victims ( African-Americans), work hand in hand to milk the situation for whatever it is worth.
With respect to this sad topic I also would like to quote Nikolai Starikov, from his essential book “Кризис
Как Это Делается”, page 224
“Владельцам ФРС проще дать безработному негру пособие, нашлепав еще немного долларов, чем мучиться его трудоустройством.
The ФРС in question here refers to the Federal Reserve System of the United States.
I think that Nikolai Starikov has a better handle on the situation in the States than most Americans, who cannot see the forest for the trees.
Finally, to get back to the Ukraine, like most of your readers I am highly encouraged by the most recent developments in Novorossiya, and I fully concur with your opinion that the NAF forces should stop well short of Kiev, and let the Ukrainians themselves clean house when they come to the realization that they have been led astray by crooks and criminals.
All the best to you and your readers, American Russophile.
just a note
A. once upon a time there was a nation where some people, localized in a certain region, was against their government, starting even an armed struggle.
B. a bordering nation gave help to the rioters, because they felt those people just like brothers.
3. the government was such in dire straits that its allies sent in the military to help.
D1. the international comunity was shocked for this move and called it an invasion, helping the rioters in anything.
D2. the international comunity agreed this move siding the government, just in response to the interference of the bordering nation.
and now a question to all the “democratic consistents”: based on the same first three steps, why the international comunity choose D2 for afghanistan and D1 for ukraine ?
@Can you imagine Helmut Schmidt, Charles de Gaulle, Margaret Thatcher, François Mitterrand or Francisco Franco engaging in that kind of infantile nonsense?
You hit the nail! Infantilism, this is the word. Their antics are the result of a long process of infantilization that now has arrived at its terminal point: the second childhood! Senile dementia. The loss of the ability to think and reason clearly that is severe enough to affect a person’s daily functioning. That why they fight the “good fight” with buffoons like Gay Pride types, Voina (Plutser-Sarno and the Pussy Riot), and the myriad of “activists”.
There is also a more profound cause. It is the particular dementia of the “Zion theology”, “End of times” and messianic expectations. These types believe that the Messianic Kingdom cannot come until Israel is “re-established” and Russia (the Gog-Magog) destroyed.
In keeping with the title of this article it is appropriate to recognise that the sociopathic “leaders” in the Western world act as if real war is like the French movie “La guerre des boutons”.
Surely the case is the routine one throughout the Five Eyes:- pollies are abject and fearful in their obedience to the secret Powers. They are not nuts but beholden to the secret societies that conferred their brilliant careers. Saker would agree it is the satanic directors of Euro-policy who are either criminally insane or just evil but confidently out of harm’s way. They are the committee directed engine of this impotent and dangerous European behaviour.
Hello dear Saker,
You said:
“Why in the world the folks in east-central Europe would want to join such a terminally pathetic community is truly beyond me.”
I am Romanian. Do you really think someone asked us, the people, what do we want, before joining the EU or NATO?
All major decisions are taken by our corrupt, mafia-like “elite” who runs our poor country into the abyss of oligarchy, theft and moral destruction.
They pretend to act “in our name” but nobody really avknowledges them anymore.
In most cases the ringleaders of the eastern branch of the transatlantic Fourth Reich are unelected, or are not directly elected. They are also not appointed on their merits as would be the case in a proper monarchy, but are just party functionaries who advance on the loyalty to the cause ticket. Who elected José Manuel Barroso? Right, nobody did. President of the European Union is Herman Van Rompuy, he is a Belgian but I doubt many Belgians know who is. In fact the Third Reich shines as a paragon of equity and democracy (I don’t believe that democracy is a good thing by the way)compared to the Fourth, at least to the branch on the eastern shore of the Atlantic. Also the balance of power within the EU has to a large extent shifted from old historical states of “real Europe” (to which Russia belongs and the EU does not) to a) artificial non-historical ethno-Nazi ethnocracies, statelets like Estonia or Latvia, and the 20th century geopolitical abortions – Poland, Czechoslovakia (or its remnants), to Great Britain (which does not belong to Europe, remember that Charles de Gaulle vetoed British membership in the community on two occasions, precisely because he believed that British interests lie elsewhere, it is an American Trojan horse; he would have never permitted a noxious statelet like Estonia be in the Union but Russia stay excluded. De Gaulle’s comprehension of history was wide and deep and the situation that we have now would be to him unfathomable (as would be the notion of an independent Ukraine by the way) and lastly the Scandinavian countries which all suffer from acute Russophobia. These three groupings form a block within the EU that can outvote Germany and mind you Germany is now led by a pro-American Nazi bitch. As a as a side note, yes I think Jarosh and even Liashko are far more sympathetic, human – not Liashko is hysterical – than the rest of the Ukie Menagerie – Poroshenkos, Kolomoiskys, Timoshenkos, oh God, I always thought why are all American/Fourth Reich “allies” so despicable, so physically revolting, repulsive, ugly?
They are not stupid, they are whores, and they do superbly their job: to make sure Europe is kept down (the boot of the D-Empire). They are also cheap, I must add. Comparing how little they cost with the enormous benefits they bring to the master, you can’t help but feel astonished. As for Europeans, their societies have been successfully destructured, almost completely. You need a miracle, by then, for a real Resistance to be born there, but miracles happen only where there is Faith.
Why in the world the folks in east-central Europe would want to join such a terminally pathetic community is truly beyond me.
Propaganda.
It’s as simple as that.
I’m from Macedonia, and here it is absolutely *impossible* to speak against the EU or NATO.
The Soros foundation has its own papers that slam anyone who dares speak against NATO or the EU.
The internet forums are awash with paid posters promoting ‘EU values’ even though no one is ready to define just what that even means, or engage in a meaningful discussion. There’s a plethora of ‘experts’ paid by the Germans and the Americans to promote their points of view, and to slander whomever doesn’t agree with the said views as ‘Putinist’ or ‘Chavist’. I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that 90% of the population here stands with Russia, but don’t expect to find the same percentage echoed in the media. No, the media tows the ‘official line from Brussels and Washington’. There’s a minority of proper analysts that do get some space in the media and tell the Truth, but the people paid by the west are always ready to ridicule and denounce them.
It’s like living under the communists all over again! Strike that – it’s even worse!
Brussels and Washington have bought the ‘elites’ and 99% of the journalists, and we’re living under their dictatorship here!
Recently the Voice of Russia (with their Macedonian edition “Руска Реч”) is active in promoting a different worldview, but they’ve yet to make an impact…

Whoah Saker, careful there and wash your mouth out with soap. This is the very banality of evil that is often spoken about. From everything I have gathered Hitler when he wanted to be could also be very “charismatic” but that doesn’t change the fact he was evil incarnate. Such people are very careful how they present themselves to the general public and only show their true faces when they are amongst their own supporters and feel they can let their hair down. I have also watched an interview with this scumbag where he stated that the pravy sector was actually against any EU integration with Ukraine, if so then why are they fighting and dying for the EU cause ? Such people cannot be trusted as far as anything they say goes as for them much the same as their third reich predecessors, the end justifies the means and they will say anything if they think for a moment it will help advance their cause. After all words are just words.
Saker: This (sanctions) will hurt Europe no wonder but thats why the US does not care, if the European “leaders” do not care why the US should do it? Talking about unlikeble EU politicians I would add the Swedish minister Carl Bildt. Check him, he speaks like a machine and by reflex throwing sh.. to Russia or Putin without even meditating just for the sake of talking BS (It reminds me sometimes of Masha Gesshen? or whatever her/his name).
Saker,
understand your exasperations. This bunch of European clowns (politician/bureaucrat/statesmen) take every opportunity of bandwagonning with USA based Anglo-Zionist Elite gr. even if that destroys European countries’ own economy and culture… It appears that a million dollar fiat money added to their wealth every now and then is much more important than their people !
And what a game USA played in Europe ! The loss of Europe’s economy and trade will get transformed into USA’s gain !! Finally, Europe will be contained by USA economically within the decade (reversing the decade-old trend) !!! I’m sure European leadership also want the same result (and agree Nuland’s prophetic statement: F**k the EU)
Like President Putin, every morally upright statesman and society must form alliance to keep the immoral illogical Anglo-Zionist Elites at bay, and work for distributing prosperity among the poor and wretched people on earth … that’s what Buddha, Confucius, Jesus, Muhammad and all great humanists stood for.

I am not sure that European politicians are clowns. They were put wherever they are by the Americans and they work for them best they can. They are increasingly successful in harming the economies of the countries they pretend to serve. They are good at that and therefore not clowns but successful traitors. After all… there are two enemies of the American New World Order: Europe and Russia (Leaving China out for the moment).
And the people of Europe? They have been so dumbed down the are delighted if “their” (joke!) politicians are delighted. Generally they seem to understand less of what’s going on than your dog. (Got one? Maybe your neighbor has?). LESS, because a dog at least smells food if it around.
First I would like thank you for this really good blog especially considering how biased most of the news seems to be.
Just wanted to clarify that some of us do support gay rights AND still agree with Russia on this case. And there are gays in Russia too.
Adding more and more sanctions no matter what you do and without any proof is an old tactic used on Iraq and Iran. With Libya it was small sanctions for decades and then suddenly regime change even if they gave in to everything asked. Like paying billions in compensation even if no proof was shown they were involved.
If after all this another round of sanctions happen I will say with certainty that Europe is lost. Russia at that time would have to just move to the end game than pussy footing around. Because this will go on for years until Russia loses and any leverage is gone. By then Russia will be in a lot of hurt unable to do much of anything. This is WAR and its an existential threat. If anyone thinks that Nato would not have gone on a humanitarian bombing by now if it was any other country is kidding themselves.
The European Union is being abandoned, both by countries which want more and countries which want less integration. The United Kingdom is in the process of leaving the EU, because it wants less integration. The eurozone countries want more integration than the EU can offer, and are in the process of creating their own mini-union where they can go their own way.
The UK in particular is subject to wildly conflicting emotions. There are regional differences: Scotland wishes to be part of the EU, while England wants to be more distant.
Within the UK as a while there are also conflicting opions about what the EU should do. On the one hand, the UK states the EU should be nothing more than a customs union which promotes free trade, and abstain from any political integration. On the other hand, the UK wants the EU to sanction Russia, which requires political integration. EU-wide travel bans for Russian politicians are a political act, and have nothing to do with free trade.
But you were asking about EU politicians. Cablegate amply documents European politicians visit the US embassy the same way East European politicians used to visit the Soviet embassy. What we have now is a generation of older politicians, for whom the US is what Russia used to be for Eastern Bloc countries. A De Gucht, for instance, who is pushing with religious fervor for a free trade agreement with the US. Or a Barroso, who needs US support to land a cushy job at an international institution, perhaps NATO or OSCE. It’s baffling to see European politicians who wish to copy the US system of study loans. Why do they want to copy the educational system of a country in decline, while ignoring the educational system of a ascending country such as China? These politicians believe the US is the solution; while the US has become the problem.
My personal opinion is the eurozone should loosen ties with the US, and edge closer to the BRICS countries. And in the long run? In the long run, the US Army will retreat from Europe, the same way the USSR retreated from Eastern Europe. US soldiers will go back to Smalltown, USA, knowing full well the quality of life which awaits them in the US is worse than the one they had in Ramstein, Germany. But before that happens, the US will do a lot of mischief in Europe, Ukraine being only the beginning.
I once read this:
stupidity is eternal and it feeds on itself.
there was some university board in Trieste where one of professors was a friend of my professor so here is a true story:
each year they elected the most stupid person to be a chairman and that was going for some time… at the end of stupid cycle one would expect catastrophe, but the most stupid person at he end endorsed slightly brighter person and cycle continued…
so there is nothing to be amazed when it comes to stupidity, one must stay out of it’s reach… at least mentally.
yhis is very true and i can only think that the US are making ‘all sorts’ of promises to EU leadership or maybe its blackmail? All tis NSA spying may have lead to a big fat folder with the pecadillos of EU leaders .. who knows. I live in europe and I can tell you I have never seen anything like this in my life, the sheer scale of lies is breathtaking, it is blatant warmongering, people are honestly getting a little scared, although I have also to say thst the majority of people who watch politics know that this is all ‘fals flag’ lies etc. It sint stopping the jelly fish ramp it up ever higher, and the average guy in the street doesny see these things they believe what they are spoon fed.
Apart from anythinhg US/NATO are using it to park more missiles, we are looking at Norway and Sweden now saying they will accept new batteries.
The press are just stupid, only the independant has been running a few articles by Fisk which seem to be unbiased or truthful, the guardian is an embarrassment, even after all their good work on Snowden, they really are way off beam on Ukraine, and constantly behind the times and print the most dubious articles that they are being fed with NO proof. Thankfully again there seem to be plenty of people on the comments section that understand what is going on
My worry is .. where is all this going? are the US as blind as the rest OR are they really so desperate in terms of economy that they see Russia/China and BRICs as such a serious threat that hey would rather have war?
The US has never been in this situation in its whole history, never so weak in terms of wealth and clearly Bretton Woods is dead, the wealth is passing to the east .. they will not accept a diminution in their world status, I think they are pretty deluded at the moment and cannot see the writin on the wall, like a spoilt child they would rather scream, break their toys and throw them out of the pram than share them.
How far to the brink are they really willing to go .. maybe not war but more fals flag, ‘Regime Change’ is their favourite .. I cant see whether they are being stupid or desperate?
Doesn’t it seem obvious that complete sanctions against Russia was always the end game? America and Obama are insisting on a Cold War II. Motivations overt and covert (de-dollarization)
Obviously NATO (via their American rulers) is ascendant over EU and are all going down for a basketcase country like Ukraine. Any potential of the goodies basket has been ruined by the destruction wrought in this civil war.
You can tell that they are wincing with this sanctions threat b/c they know that it will most certainly be countered in ways that will boomerang on the EU not the US
10,000 troops are going to do what exactly against the full brunt of any Russian militarized counter
100,000 troops now that would be a counter. An expensive one for sure. And since Obama has already said nyet to an invasion, what will 10,000 troops do exactly? Invade Donetzk on behalf of Neo Nazis?
What you have to hope is that the next round of sanctions are unveiled that Russia invites the non-West vassals in to fill the gap and develops local industry to go it alone
REally the only major sanctions that can be truly punitive are being cut off from Western capital and energy boycotts. Just enhancing the opportunity for quickened and expansive de-dollarization moves. Repatriate Russian money back home then. Better to get their money out of the Casino anyway
Winter is coming. What are they thinking? While Americans are nice and toasty across the pond, will Europe allows themselves to freeze this winter?
And will Wall Street and the Oil Cartels comply with sanctions anyway? Doesn’t appear likely.
And with November coming and Obama about to get pounded in the mid terms, what momentum killer will that bring?
What kills me is that they think that Russia is invading Ukraine with 1000 soldiers. If Russia was to invade it would be over in a weekend Georgia style.
The West looks like whiners and ingrates to the rest of the world who have sufferered under EuroAmerican tyranny/neo colonial depradations for far too long.
it will be easy to find other partners who want access to Eurasia.
I am so immersed in rooting for Donetsk that I am having dreams about it.
I’m writing this at 4 in the morning having woken up from one of these agitated dreams
Where is Kolomoiski? Is he directling his killers from Switzerland? Has he/will he go it alone against Pol Pot Shenko with his mercenary army in Odessa?
Can Zakharchenko (who looks like a Russian Steve McQueen) take Odessa?
When will Donetzsk privatize the holdings these traitors like Akhmetov and Kolomoiski? Is nationalization of oligarch assets in the works in the liberated territories?
” Why in the world the folks in east-central Europe would want to join such a terminally pathetic community is truly beyond me.”
I’ll try to explain situation in Serbia.
In coup d’etat, in October 2000, USA successfully installed puppet government with Zoran Djindjic as a prime minister. Every government from 2000 to 2012 pushed Serbia deeper into EU “friendly” hug. They, of course, deteriorated Serbia’s armed forces, destroyed economy and totally devastated Serbia’s capacity in any field (agriculture, industry, education, culture etc). We are now a bit more than a poor colony.
From 2012. and election fall of Democratic Party and it’s leader Boris Tadic, some significant changes emerge in Serbia’s foreign policy – we are, at the moment, the only European country that didn’t impose sanctions on Russia.
But, regarding our “EU path”, we don’t have any choice – we were pushed too far by previous governments and if we try to stop “EU integrations” they will do one or all of these:
– make another coup d’etat in Belgrade (like the one in Kiev, with blodshed and violence);
– raise separatistic tensions in Vojvodina, Raska (“bosnian” muslims) and Presevo/Bujanovac/Medvedja (albanians);
– put enormous pressure on Serbia’s already fragile financial institutions through “domestic” banks that they own, IMF and World Bank.
We are surrounded by NATO, we are surrounded by (except Romania) our historical enemies from WWII (btw, almost all of them had their native SS divisions – albanians “Skenderbeg” – 21st SS , Vojvodina’s ethnic germans and hungarians “Prince Eugen” – 7th SS, Bosnian muslims “Handzar” – 13th SS, Croats “Kama” – 23rd SS), we really can’t do much in this situation.
My fellow compatriots really don’t care about EU, seeing it’s failures and hypocrisy, from early 1990’s to present days, but we have to play along the tune, hoping for some major geopolitical changes in foreseeable future.
Best regards,
Igor from Belgrade, Serbia
“I often wonder: do the Europeans realize how utterly pathetic their leaders are? Do they see that they are lead by non-entities, “office plankton in suits”, pathetic intellectually challenged clowns?”
they do. even moreso than the inhabitants of the US, tho still not enough to believe in or enforce meaningful, fundamental change.
distraction, coupled with a pervasive, general feeling of helplessness in the face of political machinations and endless bankster/austerity schemes, maintains the status quo.
in pockets, there are signs of this changing, but still, it’s far from enough to challenge or topple the current power structure.
” Also, I think that the Russian politicians should notice that the EU isn’t a uniform entity as some people in Brussels and elsewhere would love to pretend. The European nations are in no way speaking in a single voice although the EU would love to impose a single voice on everyone. “

they were trying to apply the same “medicine” like against serbia…and it seems those pathetic psychopathic westerners like it so much that they were trying it again against russia…i hope russia will stay strong and knows how to deal with those psychopaths…one word of advice: don’t just retreat, try to make some first moves sometimes…
Hello,
The european construction is a US project (or maybe directly a NWO project, who knows? since the US real leaders are not the offcial ones) instrumented by Robert Schuman and Jean Monnet, who were working for the US. Since the beginning the intention was to tie up tightly different countries with different, albeit opposing interests, so as to obtain a paralyzed entity politically.
Now the european individual countries do not, and cannot, by treaty, decide anything: everything, everything is directed by the government of Europ. Neither the French government, nor Germany, nor any national government has the actual direction of his country.
It is interesting to note that the map of administrative territorial divisions planned for Europ matches more or less the administrative map of the Waffen SS.
The people working in the European institutions are totally devoid of loyalty to their own country. They are opportunists. I don’t know if they are just bought, or if there is also blackmail onto them. Maybe both.
Whicn leads us to the people of Europ, which is the basis of the problem. Whatever you may think of religion, it does have on the individual human being the effect of reminding him his duties in life. The cult of individualism, the cult of Ego, has the effect of pushing the individual to look for pleasure and satisfaction of his numerous desires. This is Hedonism, and this is the beginning of the death of any civilization. Today, you will hear no one talking about duties or principles. They talk about their rights only. Without a God you have to cult, and who indicates you your duties and the limits of good behaviour, you become a living entity devoid of spirituality, only looking for material satisfaction. And when you are that, anyone who can deprive you of what you have, controls you. When you are there, you have a population of slaves, weak, undecided, degraded beings scared of losing what makes the spice of livingness. If Russia has a future, it lies in the protection of its religion. Europ, having abandoned it, has no future as such. It is just a disposable tool for the US, and beyond that a step for the total control of the NWO entity. You may smell the smell of evil.
Well written. My theory is that Europe is secretly switching allegiance, because they have no choice. Having little strength of their own, they can preserve their interests only by following the stronger power.
Good article, but sadly the EU is going to get worse. They have replaced the idiot Van Rompuy with the Russiaphobe Donald Tusk. He was part of the EU party that witnessed the handover of Yanukovitch.
I was wondering why they go down the sanctions route and then realised that they know nothing else. In the UK, in institutionalised corporations, they promote the idiot, because they can not be a threat. However, one day a time comes when the idiot is in charge, which is where we appear to be, at this period in time.
Baby Biden, was given the job, for shale fracking and the riches the USA believe to be in the Dnieper Basin (if Kolomoisky does not end up shelling it to destruction). However, Monsanto are determined to sow their GM seeds in Ukraine and Baby Biden is also heavily involved with Feed The World project. All those that want a nuclear WWIII with Russia, over Ukraine, look at where there interests lay and what companies they have connections with.

No more as in the past a man take a pen to write his feeling. I am most certain that when you strike the keyboard with your fingers, your heart is providing for the ink. I wish I have one day the chance to meet you Saker. I do not have the intellect nor the courage to write like you do but I surely embrace your ideological position with great respect and admiration. From a Dominican man living in the ROI, SALUD CAMARADA.
Dear Saker,
Your last two articles are brilliant. As a native Russian speaker, I admire your ability to convey your thoughts with such eloquence when using a second language. By the way, have you considered using “сокол” (falcon) as you russian nickname instead of “балобан”? I think phonetically it would play well with the word “saker”, and as a former biologist I doubt that many russians (or other nationals, for that matter) can tell one falcon species from another. This is just a thought — I am sure you had your reasons for choosing “балобан” as your nickname, and there could be more to it that I know :)
I was intrigued by your assessment of Yarosh and immediately proceeded to watching the interview in its entirety (Ukranian is my third language). Well… Yarosh is definitely a very smart person, he projects power and charisma, and he knows how to speak to the crowd and to the camera. It is obvious that he is a natural leader. At the same time, I did not find him “likeable” at the least. His smile, which you mention in your article, I can’t help but find scary, because it doesn’t feel like it’s coming from his heart. When he smiles without turning away, notice that his eyes remain cold. His posture is never relaxed (even if taking into account the natural stress of being in front of the camera). His “shyness” feels artificial and calculated (although probably well-rehearsed) and is likely meant to sway the audience (to imprint the notion that he is a good guy on subconscious level). Overall, I think he must be great at persuading people to follow his cause, but not very good at listening to others, let alone absorbing a point of view which differs from his own. He is a teacher, a mentor, a fuehrer. I don’t think anyone would enjoy talking with him privately — even you, Saker — except when he is in need of a good publicity, as is the case with this interview. I certainly wouldn’t.
Thanks,
Evgeny Fyodorov
I was talking with a friend last night and, sadly, the topic of Ukraine came up. He is a Briton, far from bring a fool but he is absolutely in the camp of ‘they are terrorists, kill them all’. Given his role in life that is not a great surprise, I’d expect it.
However, talking to him I had a thought. He is of the opinion that the Russian army is now running the show in Ukraine, that the Russians are now doing the fighting. That there has been an invasion. Of course he mentioned the usual stuff, the T72 tank image (I had not seen this ‘evidence’ but on returning home I found a blurred vidcap and guesses from some kind of ‘expert’.
To believe what was being suggested from this image one would have to seriously WANT to believe the fairy story.
Anyway, back to the thought.
For weeks and weeks he has been told that the Ukrainian army is doing a bang up job of crushing these terrorists and that the maps he sees, typified by the gem on the BBC website represent the lie of the land.
However, once the rebel offensive started and the lies on these maps could no longer be supported what is a sensible man to do? After all the sudden apparent change in fortune had to be down to some external factor because the rebels were losing, right?
That’s why these stories of ‘invasion’, recently moderated to ‘incursion’ have legs – cognitive dissonance. If people ‘know’ the rebels are losing and then suddenly they are ‘winning’ there must be some new external factor creating the change, yes? And the obvious one is that the Russians are now in charge.
It is incomprehensible to him that another narrative fits the facts because he has never had access to the facts. He has not seen the changes in the fortunes of the combatants, not seen the daily shellings, not seen the advances and retreats, has no idea of the context of the war. So, for him, there can only be an invasion.
That perception is now so firmly fixed that there is no way to change it. He would undergo torture and not change his mind. :(
Saker the NSA has the goods on these people. If they weren’t flawed in a way that can be exploited, they would not get the job. Perhaps the West is much more corrupt than you realize?
Great site btw. Thanks for all the insight into Ukraine.
Well, I do not know what was good about Franco, what I do know is that what he did in my country, it has nothing to envy to what is happening in Ukraine.
In Euskal Herria banned the Basque language. Here, in those times, there were people who spoke only Basque, country people, whose children were whipped in the mouth if they spoke in Euskera or spoke Spanish badly.
Franco wiping out a whole generation of Republicans and libertarian leftmilitants. People are shot them at dawn or at night and treachery and then into a ditch. The fact that they have never been taken out of the ditches and mass graves, this does not mean that there is no genocide. Spain is the country with the largest number of missing after Cambodia, and that dubious honor we owe to Francisco Franco Bahamonde, a little man with a ridiculous voice, probably complexed. If the Spanish genocide does not appear in the history books, it is because of the betrayal which led to the joke that was the “democratic transition” where everyone, including the Spanish Communist Party in exchange for legalization, agreed to run a thick veil over what happened here. All this, monitored from
up by the USA.
I’m not so sure that Franco was not a puppet of USA simply, they, the USA could not consent to that government as a libertarian, where freedoms levels never have met in Spain.
Anyone who has tried to do justice for the disappeared, has ended badly, as the judge Garzon was expelled from the judiciary, because the descendants of those who ruled with Franco, are now in the armchairs.
Someday, perhaps not too far, I hope justice will be done.
About the EU leaders, totaly agree its lack of sense and entity, and it is clear that in the case of some, but appearance does justice to him.
But in the case of Iarosh I do not agree. The fact that he has a shy smile and those eyes of suffering does not mean it is not a beast. Resentment and inferiority are the origin of many genocides the world has ever known, not to mention that many psychopaths are characterized by a large superficial charm, but if you scratch a little, treats them, quickly leaves the monster . One would wonder, watching the video attached, Saker, that, to speak to his followers need to be flanked by two masked thugs dressed all in black, wearing body armor and to draw two heads tall. To me, in the case of Iarosh is enough to know that he is the leader of the Pravyi Sektor, the thugs who raped and massacred the people of Odessa, Mariupol, Karkhov and have been serving, under payment, Kolomoiskyi, to decide that this character, as his chief Kolomoiskyi, spare me in the reconstruction of Ukraine and the world.
People living in Europe KNOW their “leaders” are Munchkins. These idiots are basically looking for sponsorship by the USA to quangoes to ensure The Good Life as Apparatchiki. Surely the Russians knew this “Kareerist” path from the days of the USSR and today ?
People in Europe are prisoners of a disconnected elite based on graft not ability. It is Kakistocracy.
Political parties have no Basis simply a superstructure beholden to cliques. Western Society is pure Marxist in that the Ruling Elites are building a self-perpetuating elite of mediocrities as in Plato’s Republic which is the model for the EU.
If Russia plays its cards well it could end up as a beacon of hope, but that will mean Siloviki will also need to change.
Mediocrities abound when University-educated become commonplace simply because they are mass-programmed ideologically rather than being thinkers. Schmidt had served on the Eastern Front; Schroeder’s father was KIA and MIA in Romania; Kohl’s brother was KIA on the Eastern Front.
Suffering makes better men; luxury simply produces spoiled brats
The EU leaders believe they rule an empire.

Extract from a report on the situation in Ukraine published in elespiadigital.com talking about Iarosh:
-“Yarosh
“El Sector Derecho”
Si hablamos del destino del “Sector Derecho”, ahora ya es posible decir que no existe. Si al
comienzo de las revueltas en Kiev, el “Sector Derecho” estaba formado por una unidad de
cuatro diferentes Movimientos Nacionalistas Ucranianos (“UNA-UNSO”, “White Hammer”,
To me enough to know that there is nothing salvageable in this person. Simply on its own merits, without guns, without chaos and fearless, he had never been interviewed in an office like that.
Trust me, we realize how bad they are. It’s just we’re not sure how to get rid of them. It often feels like they’ve “kidnapped” the democracy somehow: no matter how awful things they do, no matter how many people hate them, they still keep winning every elections. And even if they don’t win, their successors are even worse.
And it seems to be the same thing on the local basis here in the former Soviet bloc. I come from Czechia – former Czechoslovakia – and even since we got rid of the communism regime, our ruling class consists of the very same faces. There’s literally the very same people skulking around the parliament since early 1990s, except for those who died of old age and were replaced by their younger clones (who somehow end up being even worse). One term they are in the “coalition”, the other term they go to “opposition”, but they are still there, wasting our tax money, ruining our country, getting bribed for spewing unneeded and often contradictory laws, and we simply can’t figure out how to get rid of the scum.
I imagine the situation in Ukraine was quite similar, as it seems to be a general pattern when it comes to post-Soviet countries: the former “rule of the people” under the Soviets was replaced by a bunch of suspicious upstarts consisting mostly of the previous regime’s economical and political criminals. It’s understandable that the EU might initially look like a saviour when compared to the irremovable rascals in local governments.
When talking about european diplomatics in this conflict, you have to understand Europe is between a rock and a hard place, so to speak.
The majority of journalists are members of some transatlantic think tank and so are a lot of politicians. The industry on the other hand, is doing great business with russia and russia is a growing market for them. So european diplomacy is beeing pushed by the media and fear of loosing to rival pro-usa politicians, while on the other hand trying to not do anything because it will hurt the economy and also the industry is a major money donor for the political parties.
So this new talk about sanctions is exactly what the saker describes, tough talking with exactly zero results. But that is the whole point of it. The european politicians need to sound tough to appease the USA, but they don’t really want to escalate this conflict. The real european diplomacy is not happening in the open. You will only see the results, but it won’t be announced big in the media.
One such result is the clear statement of “no military intervention by the nato in ukraine”. You can be sure this was not the idea of the USA.
I also want to point out some things about Angela Merkel (I am german). She grew up in soviet east germany, apparently got along well with the soviet party and speaks fluent russian. Considering this background, she knows the russian way of thinking and I believe has a friendly view of russia (though maybe not publicly). Her mentor was Helmut Kohl, who bartered with the soviets for the reunification of germany.
Secondly, Merkel is known for not doing things in the open. She is not the kind of person who in the media loudly says what she wants to do. Actually, it is more like if she says anything at all, you are never sure if she really means it.
Merkel is a very intelligent woman. She is the undisputed leader of her party and got rid of all potential rivals a long time ago. This is not something you can archieve easily. Never underestimate Merkel.
On the other hand, I do not know what her goals are. It can be she is secretly doing everything possible for a diplomatic solution, or it can also be she is deep up the ass of the USA and their complete puppet. Both options are possible.
So lets think some more on her motivation. One thing is sure, she likes to be in power. So having the USA telling her what to do is something I am quite sure she does not like. Then again, she would not hesitate to sacrifice germany/europe if it would gain her more power. Time will tell which of the two it really is.
Saker, you forgot to mention that other EU socialist, the Baroness Ashton…
Itar-tass.com latest reports on the EU/Russia/Ukraine gas negotiations indicate the EU is beginning to be practical:
“August 29,/ITAR-TASS/. The European Commission recommends Ukraine to start delivering payments for the supplies of Russian natural gas, Marlene Holzner, a spokeswoman for EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger, said on Friday.”
:
“Brussels and Kiev have elaborated a joint position that gas prices for Ukraine should be at the level of $320 per 1,000 cubic meters during the summer season until mid-October and $385 per 1,000 cu m during the heating season.”

“Ukraine does not agree to a $100 gas price discount offered by Russia, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Ministry said on Friday.
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Friday after talks in Moscow with EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger and Gazprom head Alexei Miller that Russia was ready to offer Ukraine a $100 discount for its contractual price of $485 per 1,000 cubic meters as a compromise option to settle the gas dispute between Moscow and Kiev.”

“A test run of the Vojany-Uzhgorod pipeline in reverse-flow mode to supply gas from Slovakia to Ukraine has proved successful, Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Andrei Kobolev said on Saturday.”

“Slovakia said it might veto new EU sanctions against Russia, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said after the EU summit on Sunday.
“I believe that the sanctions will become senseless and counter-productive. Slovakia may use its right of veto,” Fico said, explaining Slovakia would use its right of veto if it decided that the new anti-Russian sanctions would undermine its economic growth.”

Politicians, of course, can and will “spin on sixpence”, as the saying goes.
Dear Saker, you have articulated exactly my thoughts , and I do try to say to my family + friends “look at these clots” . Not only are they clowns but greedy, corrupt clowns.
They are not all stupid however, and behind the clownish policies lies a sinister ‘Common Purpose’ : http://www.stopcp.com/cpmindmap.php
The circus in Washington is equally rich in puppets & clowns of the scariest, most dangerous variety.
Take care. Douglas Mc. Uk.
I find myself constantly arguing with my parents recently about the Ukrainian conflict. They totally believe that the Russians are the aggressors. They are BBC & Guardian worshippers so it’s not surprising really. But even when I try to just say look at it from Moscow’s perspective or trace the origins of all this (back to the Gorbachev/Baker/Kohl agreements), they won’t do it because they have it long conditioned into them that Russia is somehow a threat to “the West”.
And yet at the same time they have become very anti-Israel because of their policies against the Palestinians. So even when I compare Donbas residents to the Palestinians being attacked by a brutal military machine, they say no that cannot be the case because Ukraine is one country, is not occupied and it is Russians who are fomenting trouble. Maybe it is a generational thing. I’m in my 30s and well used to looking up alternative online media. They on the other hand are in their 60s and religiously stick to TV & printed MSM and have hardly any tolerance for alternative opinions on the internet.
Yes, EU leaders are laughably fake liars and clowns … but the really key question is why the Russian well-financed glossy media like RT are so relatively weak now in confronting their lies and clownishness
Re denouncing ‘Anglo-Zionist’ machinations, ok … but Putin meets regularly with top Zionist genocidal war-mongering reptile Henry Kissinger – ultimate ‘New World Order’ man – and Putin lavishly praises him
Putin is a strong supporter of Israel and key Zionist thugs like Egypt’s dictator al-Sisi blockading and starving Gazans. 20%+ of Israel is now Russians and Russian-speaking, 25%+ of the Israeli army (given Israel’s Arabs don’t serve) … Russians were the core of the child-killing Israeli soldiers in the recent Gaza invasion … The Russian-Jewish mafia seems wired into Russia fairly well … Many of those more-than-million Russians in Israel are even Orthodox Christian, getting Christmas greetings from Netanyahu
And we really do not have a non-contorted answer as to why Putin did not move in after the May 2 Odessa massacre, Kiev thugs burning people alive and satanically strangling a pregnant woman to death … Putin encouraged referenda, then did not support like he promised … now we have over 5000 Donbass civilians dead, maybe 12000 – 15000 dead in Ukraine overall … NWO-type destruction and death seemingly running very well, and those thousands of deaths could have been avoided … it seems with all of Putin’s ‘restraint’ all we get is more war, more death and the edge of World War 3 – the great ‘problem’ long-predicted to pre-stage the ‘New World Order’ solution, like Putin’s ‘good friend’ Kissinger has long promoted
I’m British and don’t consider myself European at all. I despise our so called ‘leaders’ and what they are dragging us into. Most British people only care about the latest Celebrity Big Brother episode. For example we have a program called Great British Bake Off and one contestants ice cream melted and this was the talk on social media and in the news for days. Most of the British public are apathetic to what our government are doing to them.
I really wish David Cameron would grow a backbone and tell the EU and especially the US where to go. His great uncle fought the Nazis in WW2 and now Cameron is supporting elements of the very same in Ukraine.
I hate the UK government for that and part of me thinks a European war strategically targeted at the European heads of state would be great to wipe the slate clean and start again with some honest injuns!
I leave a song from other times, demanding the right to live, play, work in their own language.
The oppression that the fascist dictator Franco had on the population of the Basque Country was the origin of the terrorist organization ETA (Euskadi ta Askatasuna) (Euskadi and Freedom) and hence the origin of the great suffering that these people and Spanish people has endured to the present day, where the peace process and disintegration of the terrorist group is still incipient.
I am not a nationalist, because I like to live all peoples, of all races, in harmony and freedom, working for a better future for all, but I can understand the reasons for that radicalization resulting in armed struggle.
But oppression also creates hatred, and that hatred is inside some who eventually become no less fascists than those who oppressed them in those days, and now become racists and try to impose their language on others.
I hope Novorossiya have no suffer what we suffered. The path of hatred is not the right path.

DAmmerung said, 05:17
“I think you’ll find that’s true throughout the West – that the people most intellectually inoculated against Russophobic propaganda are also people with idiosyncratic personalities and viewpoints.”
The issue of gay rights and its relationship to other issues of state policy (say, in the USA and Russia) is not one that I want to get into—way too complicated! But whatever the relationship might be, I think Dammerung’s comment is relevant. Often the people who do not go along with conventional expectations and ideas, who question the power relations that those ideas express, in one area—including the rationales why some people should have control over others, whether women, weaker men, weaker peoples or something else—are the most likely to question these power assumptions in other areas, too.
Not always, but often. There are dominant, power-hungry people in all groups (and both sexes), including oppressed groups.
