Today I would like to just share two thoughts with you and suggest that each and every one of you come to his/her own conclusions.
First, Russia was literally “sucked into” WWI by the Germany. Russia did not have to enter the war as Russia herself was not attacked. “Only” Serbia was. Russia was not ready to enter the war, but the Czar-Martyr Saint Nicholas II decided that it was his Christian duty was to take the defense of the Serbian people even if all pragmatic considerations were clearly advocating against a Russian intervention. This war soon turned out to be extremely costly for Russia and greatly contributed to the weakening of the Russian monarchy which eventually resulted in a Aristocratic-Masonic coup (February 1917) followed by a Jewish-Bolshevik coup (October 1917). Did the Czar do the right thing when he decided to defend the Serbian nation at the potential cost of his own Empire, the last Christian Empire in history? It is a fact that the Serbian Prince Alexander and the Serbian people have always shown an immense and sincere gratitude to the Russian people and to Czar Nicholas II (whose first icon was painted on a fresco in Serbia, not Russia). But Russia also liberated Bulgaria from the Ottoman yoke. We now see the kind of “gratitude” Russia got from Bulgaria. Will a liberated Novorossia be more like Serbia or more like Bulgaria?
Second, the level of outrage in Russia over the apparent Russian non-action in the face of what has now clearly become a systematic terror campaign against the people of Novorossia is immense. If Putin does not take action *very* soon he will face a very serious challenge from many sectors of Russian society including the media, the Duma and even his own party “United Russia”. My personal opinion is that this “wait and see” game was probably aimed at deliberately getting the Russian public opinion in a state of rage similar to the one which preceded the 2nd Chechen war but if that is so, then now the Russian society has reached boiling point and that if Putin does not act very soon a political explosion will take place in Russia. Every day now I see already “not so veiled at all” criticisms and expressions of disbelief at the Kremlin’s “shameful passivity”, and I am not talking about some small extremist party websites, but of the most watched and best known TV news and talkshows of mainstream Russian TV. Reporters which used to be very pro-Putin are now clearly and openly expressing frustration maybe not at Putin personally (yet), but at “Moscow”. But the writing is on the wall for Putin now. Furthermore, representatives of Novorussian authorities are now spending their time in Moscow going from one talk-show to another and making truly dramatic pleas for help. In other words, Putin is days away from what will become his political suicide unless he takes action. I would say that things have become so bad that even if the Novorossian Defense Forces have what it takes to keep the neo-Nazi death-squads mostly in check (and I believe that they do), the humanitarian situation is so bad (over 110’000 refugees already) that the pressure to have Russia intervene will continue to grow regardless of the military equation.
With these elements in mind, make your own conclusions now as to what Putin should/will do.
My personal belief is that a Russian intervention is imminent.

Today he declared ceasefire in Novorossia. Russian Defence Minister Shoigu today in Parliament made a statement that Army is ready for ANY situation in Ukraine. My guesstimate: no Russian military intervention would be needed, because junta internal power fight and painful discovery of the REAL world around them… It will change the course of the horse. Re: the cause (I originally posted that comment) – to me, the cause, sadly, is not to indulge in a debate about the motivations of the winning faction in the Russian revolution 90 years ago. That is only true for the Moscow Patriarchate which, after desperately resisting his glorification, agreed to do so at the condition of the the caveat of “Passion-Bearer” in order to obfuscate the fact that he was killed not as a ruler (he was already deposed), but as part of a ritual murder of a God-Anointed Orthodox Emperor (the mystical and even eschatological dimension of this event is clearly expressed in the various Services to the Royal Martyrs, including the ones approved by the MP, I would add). Thankfully, the Russian people (including those in the MP) speak of him as Царь-Мученик and not of Царь-Страстотерпец.
Furthermore, the notion that there are sub-categories of saints has no basis in Patristic thought (even if Wikipedia endorses this silly notion).

Following the Bolshevik Revolution the Russian Orthodox Church eventually split into at least 4 distinct groups:
a) The “official” or “state” Orthodox Church, which eventually became the Moscow Patriarchate. Largely composed of modernist clergymen, this “official” Soviet Church not only denied the reality of the persecution of Christians in Russia, it often actively collaborated with these persecutions (by denouncing “subversive” clergymen, for example).
b) The “Josephites” composed of the followers of Metropolitan Joseph of Petrograd, they openly refused to submit the Church to Bolshevik regime and were eventually martyred for their stance. Some joined the following group:
c) The “Catacomb Church”. This was an illegal, underground, organization, lead by secret bishops, which rejected the right of the Bolsheviks to take over the Church and which went into deep hiding, practically disappearing from public view.
d) The “Russian Orthodox Church Abroad”: composed of exiles, this was organization created by Metropolitan Anthony of Kiev who, with the blessing of Patriarch Tikhon, united around itself most of the Orthodox Russian who had fled the Soviet Union.
It is important to stress here that even though the Josephites, the Catacomb Church and the Church Abroad did have very few practical means to communicate with each other, they were all in communion with each other and recognized each other as legitimate branches of the One Russian Orthodox Church, although each one in unique and specific circumstances. Not so with the first entity, the official “Soviet” Church which was denounced by all three groups as at the very least illegal and possibly even as the satanic tool of the Bolsheviks.
So yes, now in 2014, the MP is by far the biggest because the millions others were pretty much exterminated and because of the backing of the Kremlin apparatus in the Soviet and post-Soviet era. But for those who, like the Papists, like big battalion and the recognition of worldly powers, the MP is the only game in town.

I would add to the Saker’s clarification that we, the laity here, always refers to the last Tsar and his family as the “Holy Imperial Martyrs”.
And as much as it’s difficult for a Roman Catholic to understand this, WE ARE the Russian Orthodox Church! We venerate them as martyrs!

Crashing the head of the snake is the only right thing to do. If Russia gets openly involved in Ukraine, it will win nothing but lose a lot. Ukraine is a trap and Russia should never step into it. Putin has to accelerate the bleeding of the US dollar system in order to remove the American threat to the existence of Russia. The point is that the US will keep setting up trap after trap until it runs out of money, and it will not stop because of some truth, or moral high ground, or whatever other reason we might think of. Even if Ukraine would usurp the people of Novorossiya now, it will absolutely lose it later, when the dollar system is crashed. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY! Bully will keep bullying until somebody will cut his hands off.
Moreover, I believe that when the snake is crashed, the Kiev itself might return to its rightful owner – the original Rus. As I said in my previous messages, for now Moscow has to step up its media game and win it at any cost while undermining the US dollar system. Everything else is useless, dangerous and benefits only the American corporate-psychopathic interests.
There’re plenty of other benefits in crashing the US dollar hegemony; think about all those psychopathic, thievery oligarchs who will lose everything they stole in one shot.
This is a war for all of our survival, no matter where you’re, who you’re and what you believe in.
I think that the folks in the Russian government are plenty bright to understand what is at stake, what they should fight against and what they should stay away from. Glazyev seems to be one of them and I’m sure he is not the only one.

Bloomberg has reported that Ukrainians face problems in paying back foreign currency loans. Nearly 1/4 of all consumer credits being given in foreign currency at lower interest rates. Well, interest rates aren’t everything, as already the people in Hungary had to find out.
Might be the reason for further public unrest in Kiev and of course it bears many risks for the banks involved.

Sergey Glazyev, the economic aide of Vladimir Putin, published an article outlining a plan for “undermining the economic strength of the US” in order to force Washington to stop the civil war in Ukraine. Russian nationalism and Eurasianism are not simply different. They are, at this point in time, diametrically opposed to each other.
Core belief of Eurasianism is the existence and cultivation of the Russian super-ethnos (ethnic inclusivity). Nationalists promote ethnic exclusivity, narrowed ONLY to Slav-descended Russia. Given that a “Russian” is an ethnic amalgam of Slav, Finno-Ugric and to some extent Turkic origin, this essentially means cutting out a large portion of today’s Russians into a “sub-Russian” category. Along with the territories they inhabit. Google “stop feeding Caucasus” for a more recent and radical example of where Russian nationalist thought is going.

When he was working as a journalists for the Rheinische Zeitung in 1842, and later for his own paper in 1848 he kept publishing very hateful anti Russian articles to a point that Czar Nicholas had to ask kaiser: “what did we do to this guy?”….

Very interesting link! This Deputy of Russian Parliament is definitely not buying into this whole NLP word play. He calls a spade a spade. Also, he talk about possible future of Donetsk-Lugansk territory in which they might be able to establish much more humane and prosperous society compare to Russia or the rest of the world. Because of the war-time the fifth column in Donesk-Lugansk got purged and therefore people there might be able to build the kind of independence that is not currently possible anywhere else. Hah. Germany and Austro-Hungary also considered themselves Christian kingdoms. In fact most of Europe did. One of the interesting things about WW1 is that after it was over you never again heard the phrase ‘Christendom’, mostly because the remaining Christian autocratic powers had battered each other to death, along with the husk of the worlds last great Islamic empire.
I’m also amused by the revisionist history posted here that puts all the blame for the war on Britain. There’s definitely room for discussion about how too much blame is placed on Germany for starting the conflict, but to go in the opposite direction and claim it was all ‘perfidious Albions’ fault is asinine. The war really isn’t that complicated, Europe had gotten into the habit of shooting it out with each other every few decades, only this time they failed to notice that weapons technology had advanced by leaps and bounds since the 1870’s. In the end the war happened because the great powers of Europe wanted a war, and it all went horribly, horribly pear shaped.
The notion that Britain spent years or decades conspiring to start a war, but somehow failed to notice the advance of technology, and then to lose the vast majority of their standing army in the first 6 months of fighting, is indescribably retarded.

We can criticise the actions of Czar in WW1 with hindsight but the decisions made in real time are different from plans as you know better.
In my opinion, President Putin has even more reason to tread very carefully in view of that historical context.
Is it the time to intervene? I am not quite sure. The human cost is rising very sharply but the consequences of direct intervention would be dire.
Europe is definitely following the American but Putin is still giving diplomacy a chance to avoid further bloodshed and to reach a practicable solution.
Is he wasting time? Its hard to judge at this time but i think not. He still has some time on his hands.
Finally, Do I have any hope regarding Merkel’s Russophilic conversion? No. I think Germany and her are simply incapable of getting out of the Empire’s grip.
However, I still want to hope that we could avoid a Global disaster which is in the making.

I am very much in support of the comments made by Anonymous in this article. He is 100% correct in what he is saying. He is looking at the big picture. The world today is so different to what it was in 1917. We have a desperate bankrupt war mongering US who needs a huge war to save face and rid itself of its debt, we have nukes, chemical weapons and military might that can destroy entire countries/ cities and millions and millions of people with the flick of a few switches, not to mention that the fallout will render our soil, oceans, vegetation, crops,animals and human life (what remains for many years to come). Putin knows this better than anyone, he values all form of life on this planet and clearly shows this in everything he does and says. Only a weak person would call him a coward.

Putin’s speeches and interviews, even his op ed in the New York Times, have so impressed me, and I think he is wise to let Lavrov do the talking – he reminds me of great Russian diplomats of the Kennedy era.
I understand Saker, your admiration for Tsar Nicholas, but he and his family were under such pressures with the haemophelia of his only son – and his wife really did make a strange attachment to Rasputin, who was allowed governmental privileges that harmed the population in general.
Perhaps you will not allow me to say this, but again I am Orthodox and it is very hard for me to measure sainthood in this matter – it may well be – there are unrecognized saints, but I feel that as in some decisions down through the centuries, this is a misstep on the part of the official church.
