There is an interesting word in Russian: вялотекущий. It can be translated as “creeping” or “sluggish”. It is composed of the word вяло which means “lethargically”, or “torpidly” or “apathetic” and текущий which means to flow, to progress. This word comes to my mind when looking at the war in the Ukraine, it is progressing towards some kind of worsening, but it does so in a slouching, slowly creeping way.
Novorussian side
On the Novorussian side the recent elections did not solve the constant infighting between the various commanders. To my great regret, this nonsense is still going on. Bezler was removed from his command, Mozgovoi was told that his brigade had to be incorporated into the Novorussian Armed Forces (NAF), which he gladly accepted, and that this would be done by breaking up his brigade into various units of the NAF, which he categorically rejected. Then there was the news that Zakharchenko had decorated Strelkov and Borodai as with the Medal of “Hero of the Donetsk People’s Republic”. Strelkov denied that adding that he would not take that medal from Zakharchenko anyway. The news was then “corrected” to say that this decision had been made about Bezler and Borodai. The blog of Colonel Cassad (http://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/ – the most honest Russian-language blog on Novorussia IMHO) goes into exquisite details about all this nonsense and the English version of this site apparently has resumed translating his blog. You can find the English version here: http://cassad-eng.livejournal.com/.
Voentorg in action |
The good news is that while the Novorussians are fighting, the Russians are sending them huge amounts of weapons. The main difference with what Russia did in the past is that this time around the Voentrog is not done covertly at all and that these huge columns of trucks have been seen driving around the center of Donetsk, clearly in the hope that somebody would film or photograph them. The message to the Junta is clear – we are ready and we will support Novorussia. It appears that so far this new “semi-overt” style of support has deterred the Junta Repression Forces (JRF) from any major attacks.
Question for everybody: I have heard reports that columns of T-80 tanks has been spotted in Novorussia. Can somebody confirm whether this is true or not? So far, all the “T-80s” have turned out to be modification of the Ukrainian T-72, but the appearence of Russian T-80s could be significant because while not modern by Russian standards, most Russian T-80s have been retrofitted with modern electronics and fire systems. In other words, a modernized Russian T-80 would have a huge advantage over a Ukrainian T-72, specially an unmodified one.
I personally do not really care who of the Novorussian leaders is in command as long as it is one person. All of them have shown that they are competent military commanders so the question is a political one. Zakharchenko is by far the most legitimate political leader since he won the election, and he seems to most willing to do what the Kremlin wants which I consider a good thing. But this is also the reason why a lot of the other field commanders don’t like him, especially Strelkov. But then again, Strelkov himself is far from being unanimously endorsed either and, besides, he is now out of the Novorussian political game since he now lives in Russia. The fact is that Novorussia cannot exist without Russian support, so my totally politically incorrect preference for the command of the NAF would be for a Russian general to be put in charge, but that ain’t happening. Next best, somebody who will listen to a Russian general. But for the political command of Novorussia was is needed is a good administrator, a local Novorussian and a civilian capable of effectively interfacing with the military commanders. I personally liked Borodoi, but any guy close to the security services would do.
Why the security services? Because no real “democracy” is possible in a combat zone. So the next best thing is a pretend democracy where the democratically elected leader has some personal legitimacy, but is willing and capable of working closely with the military commanders and with the Kremlin. Sort of Borodai v2 I suppose. Alas, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Ukieland aka Banderastan
The total chaos in continuing the the Nazi-occupied Ukraine. While the junta did succeed in bringing a lot of military power (man and gear) to the line of contact, no real attack has materialized. Besides the already well-know terror shelling of civilians in Donetsk, the new and rewamped JRF has not shown itself capable of anything yet. Could they do more?
Yes, definitely, they now have three things which they lacked before the Minsk agreement:
1) More firepower
2) More armor
3) Well defended sectors
These are good ingredients for a determined attack. The problem for them is, of course, that the NAF now also has more of these three categories. Finally, the NAF retains a very significant advantage in moral, tactical proficiency, local population support, knowledge of the terrain and reconnaissance. This, along with the repoening of the Voentorg spigot, might well explain the current Ukie lack of attack.
[Sidebar: I have seen a lot of nonsense about Uncle Frost, General Winter, Jack Frost, etc. This is utter nonsense. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians (as if they were different) have fought wars in the winter for over 1000 years and they can very much do that again. Even in the Arctic (in the case of Russians). The Russians train in Siberia, on permafrost, in the Caucasus and, of course, in Central Russia’s brutal winters and while extreme weather conditions of the Winter or Spring (the thaw) make that harder, they don’t make that impossible at all. A Winter offensive is definitely possible, is less likely]
On the political side, on the Ukie side the elections has also not settled anything and all the bigshots are busy fighting each other. Most of the “action” seems to take place around Kolomoiski, but there is plenty of hatred to go around for everybody.
Russia
the leaders of the free world |
The big news for Russia is clearly the drop in the prices of oil and the drop in the value of the Ruble. Are the two linked? Yes, of course. While the general economic downturn worldwide did probably negatively impact the price of oil, there is little doubt that the AngloZionist Empire is using its influence to prevent the OPEC countries from cutting down on production. Is this strategy effective? Yes, definitely, but it also is very pricey, especially for the US shale gas industry. Cheap oil is also very good for China, so while Russia is hurting, China is getting a much needed boost. Worse for the AngloZionists, Russia and China are signing even more multi-billion dollar contracts but instead of dollars, they make them in Rouble-Renminbi.
Still, the worst problems for Russia are, beyond any doubt, self-inflicted. There is a reason why Russia has been so dependent for years on gas and oil exports: it is because the Russian economy has not been able to provide alternative sources of revenue and the reason for that is that the entire economic system adopted by Russia after 1991 has been designed to lock Russia into an “African” style of economy: Russia was allowed to export her raw materials and was told to import all the rest. How was that achieved? By telling the Russians to keep interest rates high, their savings invested in US T Bonds and keeping their main corporations incorporated abroad. Of course, none of that would have been possible without a faithful local comprador class imposing that system by its power of corruption on the rest of the country. The bottom line is that these sanctions primarily hurt Russia there were Russia is weak anyway, so in a sense you could say that these sanctions are acting like cattle-prods forcing the Russian state to very reluctantly go to its own salvation.
This is now a race against time. Who, of the USA or Russia, will have to cave in first and who will have the staying power to hold on to its objectives. Can you guess on whom I am betting? :-)
Conclusion
The situation in Novorussia is bad but not catastrophic. Russia will help Novorussia through the winter months and, hopefully, the infighting amongst the field commanders will eventually stop.
The situation in Ukieland is terrible and only getting worse. The Ukraine is now somewhere between the 4th and 5th Orlov Stages of Collapse. The recent gas deal with the EU and Russia changes nothing to that fact. We can begin to think of rump-Ukraine aka Banderastan aka Ukieland as something like a ‘frozen Libya’: a very dangerous, poor, violent wasteland run by thugs.
The situation for Russia is difficult, especially in the short term. The good news is that Russia is immensely wealthy with huge reserves of gold, currencies, natural resources and human capital and that Russia is politically extremely stable. The deep strategic alliance between Russia and China is, for both countries, the “ticket” out of the dependence upon the dollar and the way to true decolonization from the Empire.
As long as Vladimir Putin and Xi Jiping hold the course – and I believe they will – the Empire will continue to slowly erode.

Yes, the Empire will erode but the Anglo-Zionists have the power to externalize their economic problems including their debt. This will take eons.
Russia needs to negotiate its deals with China in renmimbi because it will provide them with revenue and price stability but this obviously gives lots Beijing lots of leverage.
This is the begining of a decades long struggle I’m afraid. The eurasianists are at their political apex but there will be hard days ahead. From now on Russians will be confronted by a choice between short term gain and long term pain.
I think Putin has miscalculated by not pushing forward with a powerful incursion this winter, throwing the ball into the European court. He has calculated he can win the long game but then so has the Empire.
Thanks for this interesting analysis, as always. However I think you exagerate little bit the ‘bad situation’ of Russia. The fall of the rubble has boosted exportations and allowed the GDP to maintain (+1,1% in september). Moreover, it has automatically annihilated the consequences of the oil prices fall : the oil revenues in rubble remains constant. So it’s not so bad for Russia…

Thank you, Saker, for the SITREP.
I miss it.
Dear The Saker,
I had a very moving time this afternoon. I decided to go to one of the Soviet War memorials in honour of those who fought in World war 1 and 2. There were all these old vets who had fought with Russia or in Russia. The Russian Amassador came along with some of the other ex Soviet states to lay wreaths along with many other organisations. He made the best speech of the day and he stressed how important it was to have dialouge not war. Tears filled my eyes several times throughout the whole ceremony. I went up and thanked every war vet and their families.
The organiser told us as we were leaving that the Ukranian delegation came earlier to lay their wreath and how disappointed he was as they lost so many lives during the wars and couldn’t just come for the rememberence ceremony and acknowledge the past along with Russia.
I suppose it was good they came at least; but reading this is so very very sad on a day of rememberence.
Oh one other thing – all the vets (non Russia) were wearing the orange and black freedom ribbons along with their other medals.
History is so important.

Novorossiya leaders MUST be locals.
Having foreigners, and especially foreigners with “intelligence” (secret police) connections, is the same as every other empire appointing its own governors to their colonies…. or rigging it so such people get elected.
Russians from Russia are foreigners, for this purpose. They do not live in Novorossiya, and represent Russian political interests rather than Novorossiyan ones. Insofar as the interests of the two nations coincide, they can agree upon them openly by negotiation, not by one placing colonial administrators in the other. It was ok to have people like Borodai for a while at first, to create a semblance of unity until locals had time away from fighting to develop their own trustable leaders.
SATURDAY single source announcement that DPR ministry has resigned

not clear if this is routine, if they are old pre-election minsters or new ones appointed since, as we’ve not bee given a list anywhere that I know of. I do not think it i routine, as I heard (from local source) Zakharchenko was calling a late-night press conference, some hours before this new item appeared.

Is Hungary begging to be kicked out of the EU?
http://rt.com/business/203415-us-hungary-pressure-russia/
Excuse me that I am not in the know, but who wrote this dreadful article?
First, they are spelling
Novorossiya as “Novorussia”. Second, they are pettily playing up the DPR infighting, rather than emphasizing Novorossiya’s post-election strength. Third, Zakharchenko’s enlighened move of awarding a medal to Strelkov is cast willy nilly as a foolish gesture. Fourth, Cassad’s is not “the most honest … blog” in any sense of the word. Fifth, where is there proof that “the Russians are sending [the NAF] huge amounts of weapons”? And, except for the undending tweets by Kiev propagandists that have blasted Twitter daily for the last 5 months, is there really proof of “huge columns of [Russian] trucks” in Donetsk? Sixth, how can any informed person “not really care” which leader is in command? Seventh, what evidence have you that the independent-spirited Zakharchenko is “willing to do what the Kremlin wants”, or that the Kremlin is even communicating to him its wishes? Eighth, while it may be a challenge for Novorossiya to exist without Russia, it is by no means a “fact” that it “cannot”. Ninth, the author implies that the DPR is a “pretend democracy”, which seems rather unfair at this stage. Tenth, the author alleges that Russia’s worst problems, “beyond any doubt”, are self-inflicted. Really? Eleventh, who has the power to tell Russia what to do, such that they could “lock Russia into an ‘African’ style of economy”? Would Putin agree with this insulting assessment? Twelfth, casting the further alignment of Russia and China as a positive development rather than as a stopgap measure is not in anyone’s best interests. Strelkov himself, in an interview several days ago, said China is as bad as the US, in that it is an imperial power with a materialistic emphasis preserving its own hegemony.
Aha! At the end I see this article was written by Saker himself!
@donovan Kirsten 23:57
To answer one part of your questions, the following might help:
You ask who can lock Russia into an African style economy .. Would Putin allow such an insult ?…. Etc. etc.
Answer: If you were paying attention to previous postings and interviews of the chief economic advisors to Putin, you’d learn that BEFORE Putin came to power, during the Yeltsin era, the Russian constitution and Central Bank had been brought into force. The Russian Central Bank is not under Russian political control (by law I believe). This “bank” keeps Russian interest rate artificially high and the Russian money supply artificially low,, forcing Russian businesses to get loans from International banks which have close to zero interest rate costs to the ECB or the US FED, allowing these banks to offer loans in the low single digits interest rates. The Russian Central Bank, however, has a prime lending rate (to commercial Russian Banks) of close to 10%. This exorbitant cost of capital makes financing most domestic industrialization projects untenable due to a negative IRR (internal rate of return). Therefore, the only other option is to try and get international financing from US or European banks @ 4-5% interest (since the cost of capital to these banks is close to zero). Unfortunately, most of these banks are not interested in financing industrialization and manufacturing projects in Russia; they are mostly interested in financing mining and hydrocarbon extraction projects which have tangible collateral. This is also due to these banks wanting to protect themselves from the risk of dealng with corruption and lack of transparency in the Russian business and civil judicial environment (not only due to political considerations imposed upon these Banks by the US or EU governments). In addition, only large corporations can go this route: small and mid sized entrepreneurs cannot seek such loans. So pretty much the entire manufacturing, high tech and industrial SME sectors are stifled from accessible or viable financing. That is the African style restrictions imposed on Russia. To demonstrate how distorted this outside imposed financial structure is consider the following:, Russian businesses have been forced to take a net $400 Billion in unnecessary foreign loans due to the artificially high interest rates imposed by the Russian Central Bank; such loans could have been kept internal/ domestic if the Russian Central Bank was offering normal interest rates instead of its current interest rates that are designed to deindustrializatize Russia.
External entities get to decide what sectors of the Russian economy get to develop/expand and what sectors get to choke/stagnate. Russian Oligarches and the corruption they and the civil service encourage aren’t helpful either.
The only significant exception to this is sectors that the Russian government can directly pump funds into (like military industries) or where foreign governments can pump money directly into certain projects (such as in defense contracts where foreign govts can acquire loans from their own banks and use that to finance projects in Russia at a cost viable level: examples include the $15Billion the Indian Govt is putting up to co-develop the Russian 5th Gen Fighter [with the Russian govt putting up the remaining $15Billion]. Another would large naval contracts awarded by India, China and the Russian Navy to Russian Defense Industries that have allowed Russia to reconstitute their ship building capacities in Russia’s far east after Russia lost the Nicolaev Shipyards to Ukraine). No internationa (western)l bank would finance these projects no matter how profitable they were (due to legal and security restrictions).
As to the rest of your queries I’d suggest you go look up the answers yourself because each of these points have been addressed and you need to be cure your own disbelief at your own expense (or effort).
If they want to strike at the Anglo-Zionists Russia really needs to be emphasising the importance of gold this month.
Gold Gold Gold. Try and get that Swiss Gold Referendum up which will strike a blow at the USD/Euro/Yen Fiat Money go round upon which the Emperor/Empire depends for his/their power.

> drop in the prices of oil [..] is very pricey, especially for the US shale gas industry.
A low oil price certainly is bad for all oil exporting countries.
When it comes to US shale, however, the industry has never been profitable, and is probably best described as a bubble or ponzi scheme.
In other words, popping the shale bubble this way might actually prove beneficial for the US economically, as an earlier pop means popping a smaller (debt) balloon. It might even be convenient for some of those early shale evangelists, who can now declare the looming shale failure in North America collateral damage of the energy war against Russia and Iran (if that is what’s going on).

Putin and the Russian establishment need to do all he can to charm Juncker for instance.
Juncker can force the UK out of the EU if he so wants. (By making it impossible for any In/Out Referendum in the UK to possibly favour the “Stay in the EU” side).
Britain’s “Bomber” Harris, who led the RAF Bomber Command during its mass raids on Germany in the Second World War, cut his teeth devastating Kurdish villages in Iraq in the 1920s.
Heinz Guderian – master of the Blitzkrieg and father of modern tank warfare – commanded the German XIX Army Corps as it rampaged across Poland in 1939.
Personally leading the devastating attack which traversed the Ardennes Forest and broke through French lines, he was at the forefront of the race to the Channel coast. Only Hitler’s personal command to halt prevented Guderian’s tanks and troops turning Dunkirk into an English bloodbath. All because vily coaward liar Churchill promised something to hitler only token resistance to his ultimate aim-to destroy russia and (thus from brutish point of view germans too.)

President putin is wrong when he says that russia should or will target the missile on europe if america goes with anti missile defence plan in Europe.in fact it was not America but england which asked for ABM againstt Russia. BBc spy journalists were harassing presidential candidate Gore not to go ahead with Florida recount on ground” ally like britian want to conclude AMB deployment in Yorkshire as soon as possible so there should be no delay in govt. formation.in other word accept fraudulent win of bush for sake of england ! “
Russia must target (rather than should) the nuclear missiles with multiple war heads against all the cities, towns and big villages( including military instalations) of england because this cold war -like the one before- is being started by england for the benefit of english race only-.it is race war between the english parasite race versus the rest of the world-the sooner the rest of the world realizes that better it is for the world.
look how germany wes villified soon after fall of soviet union-look how russia is being vilified immediately after Putin made russia strong.
-such is the evil propaganda of britihs spies inside america. .
poland is nothing but a proxy for the british bastards.
itis no use targetting poland -target the main villain which is england and the english nation which m ust be aniihilated fromt the face of the world.
saker-I know that you are not an astrologer and it is not expected that your hunch be always right.
on that note I remember that you were saying way back in july that come September the ukies will pack up because of autumn coming-now the ukies are doing exactly what is NOt expected for them to do. so Russian analysts have been caught off guard.
the ukies under Anglos instruction will do all what Russia was not expecting them to do.

Violence has escalated in Jerusalem in the last two weeks following the invasion of Islam’s third-holiest site, the al-Aqsa mosque, by right-wing Israeli settlers who have repeatedly declared their intent to destroy the mosque and replace it with a Jewish temple.
The Israeli government, instead of preventing the settlers from invading the mosque, has sent in soldiers to accompany them, and has violently assaulted Palestinian protesters upset about the invasion of the Muslim holy site. Israel controls access to the mosque, and has had soldiers stationed outside since 1967 – this has long been a point of contention for Palestinians.

“local comprador class imposing”
Bush may have believed that he was the decider, but I suggest notions of local comparador class imposing is a similar misrepresentation/gross simplification.
Patience is a virtue and all that glisters is not gold.
Sanctions make close friends – stimulates mega deals.
Every oil producing country is hurting as global economy faces deflationary spirals that TPTB will not acknowledge.
A peek for the real skinny on the unintended consequences from the sanctions-oil price collapse can be found here:
1. The Collapse of Oil Prices: Has Washington Just Shot Itself in the Oily Foot?
[.]What Hughes describes was the state of shale oil before the start of the Kerry-Abdullah Saudi oil price war. Now US WTI oil prices have dropped a catastrophic 25% in six weeks, and still falling. Other large oil producers like Russia and Iran are in turn flooding the world market with their oil to increase revenue for their state budgets, adding to a global oil supply glut. That in turn pressures prices more.
The shale oil and gas bonanza of the past five years in the USA has been built on a foundation of zero Federal Reserve interest rates and huge speculative investment by hungry Wall Street firms and funds. Because of the ultra-rapid oil well depletion, when market oil prices collapse, the entire economics of lending to the shale oil drillers collapses as well. Money suddenly vanishes and debt-strapped oil companies begin real problems.
According to Philip Verleger, former head of President Carter’s Office of Energy Policy and now an energy consultant, in North Dakota’s Bakken shale, one of the most important new shale oil regions, oil at $70 a barrel could cut production 28 percent to 800,000 barrels a day by February from 1.1 million barrels a day in July. “The cash flow will go down as the prices go down, the amount of money advanced to these people to continue the drilling will dry up entirely, so you’ll see a marked slowdown in drilling,” said Verleger.

Lies and Sanctions.
FWIW. Imho “Oil Price Wars are a cover to conceal global deflationary fears and the demise of the Empire. Also, to understand the reality of it all, factor in Iraq and Libya production at a fraction with Iran under sanctions. China’s economy loosing steam. ”Putin and the Russian establishment need to do all he can to charm Juncker…”
Juncker is known for his famous posit: “When it becomes serious, you have to lie.”
Do a search. How do you charm a l^^r?
FYI.
The BRICS need to try and get the likes of Argentina, Turkey, Indonesia and South Korea along to these meetings. That would be almost half of the G20 – a very powerful statement of intent.
Meanwhile, in the BRICS meet this month, the five countries are expected to further show support for beleaguered President Putin. The US has pushed European capitals, despite some resistance, to “punish” Putin with sanctions for the accession of the Crimean peninsula.
A joint BRICS statement earlier in March this year criticized Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop’s statements that Putin could be barred from attending the G20 Summit in November.
“The Ministers noted with concern, the recent media statement on the forthcoming G20 Summit to be held in Brisbane in November 2014. The custodianship of the G20 belongs to all Member States equally and no one Member State can unilaterally determine its nature and character,” said a joint BRICS statement.
BRICS combined GDP has reached 21 per cent of the global volume, and the five nations already account for 11 per cent of accumulated investment and nearly 20 per cent of global trade. Mutual trade almost doubled in the 5 years to 2013 to reach $300 billion.
The next BRICS Summit will be held in the Russian city of Ufa on 9-10 July 2015.

Are there any signs that Russia is moving away from the African/comprador model? How important is oil revenue now as opposed to five or ten years ago? And, most importantly, does anyone know if any progress has been made in changing the banking system?
Donovan Kirsten criticises the Saker’s translation/transliteration from Russian into English, but doesn’t seem to realise that there is no single system that is agreed upon to transcribe the 33 letters of the modern Russian Cyrillic alphabet to the 26 letters of the modern English alphabet.
For example, the Saker transcribes Я as Ia whereas I would use Ya. The city Москва is transcribed as Moskva, but we would write Moscow in English. The River Москва is usually written as the river Moskva. How do you transcribe Екатеринбург? Both Ekaterinburg and Yekaterinburg are common.
As for Новороссия, I don’t think that there’s yet a consensus as to what it’s transcription should be.
As a sovereign with her own currency and not much foreign debts, Russian Government does not depend on the oil revenue for her domestic spending! It’s a wise strategy to allow ruble to free float(drop for now). This time is different from 1980s where the Soviet needed dollar to buy food in international market. Now Russia is a big producer of grains. The Oil price war won’t do much damage to Russia as it did to the Soviet Union.

Regarding Winter, I mentioned before that I’ve done winter camping, including Boy Scout winter camporees, and camping on 3 feet of snow in freezing rain — and it’s certainly possible to have a campaign during Winter, but it’s harder, and different.
But it’s more difficult. There is less light, which make travel and navigation more difficult. Just having the clear ice and snow from windshields can be a problem, as can starting a vehicle sitting in the cold all night (got new batteries with extra cranking power?).
Water freezes so ‘water buffaloes’ must be heated. Food freezes too, and heating food takes longer. More fuel is needed for various things. Snow and ice slows down movement, both on foot and in vehicles.
Foliage is gone so finding cover is harder — except when it snows which limits visibility, but allows tracking of movements.
It’s also harder setting up a camp or sheltering for the night.
The cold is tiring, partly because everything is harder to do, freezing one’s fingers or making one wear gloves and heavy clothing. If you drop the keys to your MBP, or any other gear, in the snow it can be a problem finding them, or digging it out.
And one’s nose is always running, and partly because it tends to suck the energy out of a person, and can wear down moral. The best thing about outside in Winter is few bugs — small compensation.
The home area advantage is magnified because of difficulty of movement, and need for mobile shelter.
And it’s often wet, slushy, and with half frozen mud — which makes it hard to keep dry, including shoes and socks. Artic conditions, when the freeze is permanent is easier than cycles of freezing and thawing.
If one can set up a semi-permanent camp, or dig in, that helps, but trying to move every day (to attack and take territory)is a challenge.
It’s a different situation — a different terrain — and both troops and command need to get training for it. Winter can be very unpredicable, and unexpectedly brutal. Consider how many of the ‘occupy Wall Street’ groups countered the cops fairly well, but folded because people could not handle the Winter.

@Julian – the Swiss gold referendum is simply whether the Swiss people want to repatriate their gold that is stocked in other countries, namely in the Bank of England (20% of the Swiss gold) and in the Bank of Canada (10% of the Swiss gold). The rest of the Swiss gold (70%) is stocked in Switzerland. If you understand French, you can read about this initiative here. If it is accepted by the Swiss people, it won’t strike a blow at the USD/Euro/Yen Fiat Money.
@Julian – I forgot to mention that this initiative about Swiss gold was introduced by the far-right party, the UDC (Democratic Union of the Centre).

for Russian, try using Yandex translate. Much more accurate.
http://translate.yandex.com/translate lets you put in a URL and it will translate the whole site
http://translate.yandex.com/
gives a box to copy blocks of text you want translated
Google search does have a “translate” link under non-English search results, but that opens the Google page translate, which can take longer to just open than it takes to open the link in original language, get the URL, stick it into Yandex and have it 1/2 translated already.
If you want non-English news on a topic, make up your search term eg “donetsk elections” translate it, then do the google search with the translation – it will give results in that language. This gives you access to a lot more news than the MSM gives you.
I have always loved this song and it seems to fit what is going on in the world today.

“Roads To Moscow”
They crossed over the border the hour before dawn
moving in lines through the day
Most of our planes were destroyed on the ground where they lay
Waiting for orders we held in the wood
Word from the front never came
By evening the sound of the gunfire was miles away
I softly move through the shadows, slip away through the trees
Crossing their lines in the mist in the fields on our hands and our knees
And all that I ever
Was able to see
The fire in the air, glowing red
Silhouetting the smoke on the breeze
All summer they drove us back through the Ukraine
Smolensk and Viasma soon fell
By Autumn we stood with our backs to the town of Orel
Closer and closer to Moscow they come
Riding the wind like a bell
General Guderian stands at the crest of the hill
Winter brought with the rains, oceans of mud filled the roads
Gluing the tracks of their tanks to the ground, while the skies filled with snow
And all that I ever
Was able to see
The fire in the air, glowing red
Silhouetting the snow on the breeze
(Ah, Ah, Ah) [x4]
(Ah, Ah, Ah) [all thru bridge]
In the footsteps of Napoleon, the shadow figures stagger through the winter
Falling back before the gates of Moscow, standing in the wings like an avenger
And far away behind their lines, the partisans are stirring in the forest
Coming unexpectedly upon their outpost, growing like a promise
You’ll never know, you’ll never know, which way to turn, which way to look you’ll never see us
As we steal into the blackness of the night you’ll never know, you’ll never hear us
And evening sings in a voice of amber, the dawn is surely coming
The morning road leads to Stalingrad, and the sky is softly humming
Two broken tigers on fire in the night
Flicker their souls to the wind
We wait in the lines for the final approach to begin
It’s been almost four years that I’ve carried a gun
At home, it will almost be spring
The flames of the tiger are lighting the road to Berlin
I quickly move through the ruins that bow to the ground
The old men and children they send out to face us, they can’t slow us down
And all that I ever
Was able to see
The eyes of the city are opening
Now it’s the end of a dream
(Ah. Ah, Ah) [x4]
(Ah, Ah, Ah) [thru this section]
I’m coming home, I’m coming home , now you can taste it in the wind the war is over
And I listen to the clicking of the train wheels as we roll across the border
And now they ask about the time that i was caught behind their time and taken prisoner
They only held me for a day, a lucky break i say
They turn and listen closer
I’ll never know, I’ll never know, why I was taken from the line with all the others
to board a special train and journey deep into the heart of holy Russia
And it’s cold and damp in the transit camp and the air is still and sullen
and the pale sun of October whispers the snow will soon be coming
And I wonder when, I’ll be home again and the morning answers never
And the evening sighs and the steely, Russian skies go on,
forever…

It is _crap_ if you compare it to PROMPT:
http://www.translate.ru/
Drawback: Only supports a very limited set of languages. However: It can be installed to hdd, if you want it as offline solution. And it needs only few manual corrections, when you compare it to googleNSAlate.
The drawback in general is, that using such tools distracts you from learning the language. Rather go to yt and have a few free lessons, such as here:

Because that sort of independence from Israeli control mechanisms (zionist, obviously) is verboten and will most definitely send Israel’s control mechanisms into apoplexy (IE: zionazi control freak meltdown).

Economics: it’s easy to get lost in abstraction and theory, but it’s actually about standard of living, like eating and living indoors, and the other things people like.
A good economy needs a few things: natural resources, labor, knowledge or technology at some appropriate level, effective local trade, customers, and some kind of liquidity to facilitate trade. What is not necessary is money and foreign trade, considering that for most of history economics was about small villages or clans surviving or contentedly flourishing. Hunting and fishing and gathering economies were often successful, with people living well and with lots of free time if the resources were adequate.
Yes, of course it can and has become much more elaborate — not always for the better — but it’s still essentially about tangibles and the ‘real economy’ — and, seemingly strangely perhaps, about spiritual and personal satisfaction. And like “all politics is local”, so ‘all economics is local’, and personal.
Once that’s understood, then even a huge nation like Russia can reorder its economic system to establish good living standards, independent from the rest of the world except for necessary defense against aggression. The level of interaction, cooperation, or isolation, with the world becomes a matter of strategy and choice, not necessity or being trapped in an external system.
Regulation of the economy can be done using principles of MMT, controlling liquidity, employment levels, and production on a local or national level. This means one does not have to cede power to empires and play with the same game rules, or even be in the same game — as long as external aggression can be thwarted.
The implications of this is far reaching and powerful.

Poroshenko’s bloc is going to get more seats in the Rada than Yatsenyuk’s although the latter got a much bigger % of the votes. Odd.
“Although voting results are to be announced on November 10, the balance of forces in the new parliament is clear already now: the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc is expected to have 132 seats, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s People’s Front is to have 82 seats, the Samopomoshch /Self-assistance/ party – 33 seats, the Opposition Bloc – 29 seats, Oleg Lyashko’s Radical Party 22 seats, and Yulia Tymoshenko’s Batkivshchina /Fatherland/ – 19 seats.”
http://en.itar-tass.com/world/758795
The story doesn’t say what happened in the several towns various Nazi groups were going to to “support the vote count” for their candidates.
Poroshenko makes new law, with budget of $7 million UAH, to buy better prosthetics for ATO veterans. This amount will cover about 300 at current prices. Veterans have to jump through hoops to prove how they got injured, including copies of the military orders they were following. Prosthetic arms that are more than just a hook are ten times the price as they have to be imported. So…..sounds good though, eh? the private battalion guys of course won’t qualify at all.

Yes – that is part of it – the other part is that the SNB must hold at least 20% of its assets in Switzerland. Currently this figure is around 8% I believe.
i) keeping the Swiss gold physically in Switzerland; ii) forbidding the SNB from selling any more of its gold reserves, and iii) the SNB has to hold at least 20% of its assets in gold.
As well as creating an instant demand for buying gold from Switzerland, a yes vote would also act as a catalyst for other countries to begin buying gold in bulk. The point is – if the Swiss see storing their assets in gold as important again, then other countries are bound to follow. It will have a strong follow-on effect. Anything that promotes gold as an asset automatically undermines fiat currency.
Surely that is obvious?

Process To Induct India as Full Member in Shanghai Cooperation Organization Has Begun
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Friday set the ball rolling to make India a member of the security bloc which will give the world’s largest democracy a greater say on issues like combating terrorism, and participation in major oil and gas projects in Central Asia. Kremlin spokesperson Yuri Ushakov has indicated on Sept. 12, India and Pakistan could be granted full-fledged membership in the next SCO next summit. The next SCO summit will be held in Russia’s city of Ufa on July 9-10, 2015 along with the 7th BRICS Summit, during which Russia will chair both SCO and BRICS groups of nations. Ufa is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, and the industrial, economic, scientific and cultural center of the Russian republic.
It would appear from this kind of thing that Russia at least are targeting the back end of 2015 for any major moves and in the meantime (ie the next 8-9 months, I wouldn’t expect too much bluster or confrontation from Russia/Putin against the West/ Anglo-Zionists).
Certainly a very slow and steady policy, I do wonder what it means for Novorossiya though.
The American Empire of Chaos can only maintain its world domination by fomenting wars and conflicts throughout Eurasia.
That is why the United States is egging on its puppet states like Ukraine to escalate their aggressive attacks.
This is especially true since the the American economy is nothing more than a parasitic system based upon financial coercion via the US Dollar’s (undeserved) status as the world’s only reserve currency.
However, with other nations divesting from the dirty American Dollar, the US economy will implode like the black hole that it is.
That is why America is increasingly baring its fangs like a rabid animal.
Does anyone else find it curious that, while the Russians are advertising their presence in Donetsk, the Pentagon and State Department are both saying they have no evidence of this in response to Ukie charges of just such a presence?
“On the Novorussian side the recent elections did not solve the constant infighting between the various commanders. To my great regret, this nonsense is still going on.”
“There have been numerous concerns raised by various analysts about the ‘divisions’ in the Novorossiyan leadership. The chatter from the Novorossiya side seems to indicate that there exists a serious problem in this. Because these involve people under strenuous conditions, and ambitions and ideologies, as well as trust issues, lead to clashes of sorts, we are confronted with another factor.
Because much of the Novorossiyan reporting on these conflicts is promulgated in official or quasi-official sources; then consider what that means. Novorossiyan leadership’s job is to dissemble the reality of a highly organized hierarchy with clearly defined short, middle, and long terms goals, along with the strategies needed to get them, and the various tactics that will be used along the way. In our past work, we already described the numerous times that the various Novorossiyan militias were able to conceal their strength and compel the enemy to attack prematurely, haphazardly, and in manner leaving their supply lines and rearguards over-stretched. This resulted in the now infamous cauldrons.
Still, further clarity on the subject is needed. What is distorted, using new media in the information war, on the receiving end for the media consumer, is not the same as what is understood within the leadership itself. They are acting out their ‘confusion’ script. It cannot be forgotten that nearly every person on both the political and military side was placed there by the Russians. There is only one chain of command and there is only one grand strategy. It follows from this, that with a high degree of certitude we can say: they are on the same page. Each major event of real significance confirms this thesis. Our work has centered around this thesis and has allowed us to explain and forecast the events with a considerable degree of accuracy, since January.
Calls to better centralize the command are very important to make, because they create the impression of a decentralized command. But the new methods of centralization, and this is critical, in 4GW which mirrors the technology used, allows for a greater degree of autonomy and decision making at the ground level. Communication technologies and the dissemination of broader ranges of knowledge, an increase in generalists with specializations, as opposed to the older model which saw a clear separation of these two, are features of modern organization in all spheres of life including war. In many ways, the new ‘centralization’ has many similar features with what would be called ‘chaos’ or disorganization in 2GW models.
So while it is true that there is significant decentralization among the NM fighters when compared to the Russian Army, it is actually the NM that is creating a new model for the Russian Army and not the Russian Army that is setting a standard for the NM that it cannot yet achieve. Talk to the contrary serves a propaganda purpose, and not much else.”

Ciao
Major reason Russia have not been able to develop alternative to energy business ,is CUlture.. Russian people dont want to be like China or India or all those undeveloped yellow skinned nations. If Russia choose for example to sell computers ,they will be unable to compete in the west not even if theirs were better.. they need to follow western rulers to be able to sell there. and have closer relations too.. And since Asia is highly undeveloped and speak totally different languages and totally different likes.. its close to impossible for Russia to develop alternative business that could be profitable selling them to Asia. So Asia major undevelopment and big difference in culture and its islam religion have been a major obstacle for Russia to look away from the west.. Now China have modernized and a solid economy so now Russia have a market.. but in the 90s or even the 2,000 , china was not very developed.
Russia needs to help modernize all Asia and muslin friendly nations so that they can have a market .. Imagine that India just recently opens their first burger king for first time ever. Russia only choice a decade ago the west and the west.. for any business. Now Russia could push also India to modernize.. Religion in Asia have played a big role in blocking Russia progress in those places.
@anonymous 8:28, 10-November, 2014.
Wow I never realized that a nation’s economic and technological progress could be measured by how many Burger King restaurants they’ve opened. What a stunningly intelligent and insightful comment. You must be extemely smart – I salute you.
You’ve also helped all of us understand that all those yellow skinned people in Asia must be Muslim (even though the majority of these yellow skinned ‘Muslims’ spend a lot of time in Buddhist and Daoist temples, not to mention the “Yellowskinned” Muslim’s peculiar habit of lighting incense to a statue of Lord Buddha (I guess they must be undercover practicing al-taquiyya). Thanks so much for revealing to us that the 800 million Chinese who call themselves Buddhists and the 300 million who consider themselves following the path of Dao must really be closet Muslims. And, of course the 1 billion Hindus of India (out of 1.25 Billion) must also secret Muslims too! Wow! You are so knowledgeable, really!
Yes you’re quite right, having the technological know how and organizational skills to design and manufacture high-tech products like computers is so gauche that it must be contrary to Russian culture and beneath the dignity of Russians because digging up minerals and pumping oil must so much more meaningful and cultured. No….only yellow and brown-skinned Asians must be menial enough to develop and manufacter complex VLSI/ULSI chips and Digital Signal Processors. And westerners will only buy computers and Hi-tech goods from people that are subservient to them, which is why they’d never buy Russian made computers no matter how good they are. Brilliant logic, I am in awe!
I suppose the Russians and Russian culture you refer to must feel particular shame and disgust at themselves at having developed the most advance rocket engines and nuclear reactors (even one the size of a basketball, the Topaz) on the planet, not to mention the most advanced scramjet propulsion systems that render many of their AA, SAM and sea-skimming missiles hypersonic. And other “gauche” high technology energy weapons decades before their Westetn counterparts came to be. How terrible you must feel at having achieved these shameful technological milestones when such menial accomplishment should be pervue of mere Yellowskinned and brown skinned Asians.
Of course, the high cost of capital within Russia, corruption, destabilization, the treasonous selfishness of some of the Oligarches, the incredible stupidity of the Western oriented section of Russia’s elite and chatterati and the brain drain of Russia’s best Engineers and scientists have nothing to do with Russia slowly sinking into the Morass of being a resources based economy like puny dependent Canada or primitive Saudi Arabia.
Wow! Thanks for the insight.
” Russia was allowed to export her raw materials and was told to import all the rest.”
Omniscience doesn’t exist – as I suggest your own various attempts at strategic analysis/formulation/activation amply illustrates.
Consequently a notion of “disinformation” is a perception obfuscating information.
Evaluation is a function of purpose and derived subsets including utility.
If the purpose is to transcend the opponents, perceiving them as having agency in isolation is a strategic error.
The statement “Russia was allowed to export her raw materials and was told to import all the rest.” whilst containing an element of veracity, simultaneously and subliminally suggests the opponents had agency in isolation and hence as above is a strategic error.
By 1994 even some of the opponents realised this.
I don’t think Bezler was “removed”. It would be far beyond Zacharcenko’s real powers because he (Bezler) did have his own voentorg, Gorlovka is his home city and his huge brigade (5000+) is personally devoted to him. More probably, he’s “overgrown” his original mission of Gorlovka’s defender and now he has something much more important job now. According to some rumours and hints I read recently he may be appointed as DNR’s “liaison officer” in Russia with main word in organisation and distribution of voentorg. Remember his ruthless provocation with gen.Korsun against unloyal commanders in DNR… He may even be the “administrator” who Saker call for:-)

” We all in the Eastern Bloc were sold out by Michail Gorbatchev. I would like to know: Was Gorbatchev only naive or a paid western trojan horse? Who _knows_ any details?”
Your contribution posits binaries where as life is more complex.
The framing of your contribution contains presupositions i.e. posits closed questions, and posing closed questions predetermines possible outcomes.
Included in your presuppositions is that Mr. Gorbachov had agency in isolation.
Many are uncomfortable with complexity but I suggest complexity is the only way for you to achieve what you apparently seek.
With so much Chinese money and investment now flowing into Russia, (the two gas deals are still only a very large tip of the Headline Iceberg) China is becoming a stakeholder in the survival of Putin’s Russia.
Maybe the Gas deals “favour” China, but China’s continued global competitiveness and growth, favours Russia and dividends from that growth can come home to Russia in myriad ways.
More importantly it also makes the Russian -EU/NATO border become, increasingly, the SCO/CU – NATO/EU border and this is something that will be hard to overestimate.
“In his new book, Brown University history professor and World War I historian Dr. Gregg Guidi exposes the truth behind the longstanding story made popular in both the funny pages and in song about Snoopy fighting the German fighter pilot known as the Red Baron.
Guidi said he’s spent his entire career searching war documents, army archives and newspaper accounts and has finally finished his 2,871 page book putting to bed the “disturbingly historically inaccurate” myth that the beloved “Peanuts” star took on the Red Baron during World War I.
“Snoopy didn’t serve in the United States Armed Forces, he did not engage the Red Baron in an aerial dogfight and he was not a World War I flying ace, as he so callously refers to himself in accounts I’ve read,” said Guidi. “And now, I have enough evidence to call out this cowardly dog.”
Guidi said this myth is “literally like saying Garfield the cat fought Genghis Khan. Literally.”
The book, titled, “What’s Black and White and Never Fought the Red Baron All Over?” will hit bookstores November 18th, just in time to coincide with the Thanksgiving Charlie Brown special.
“Since 1966, Charles Shulz and Snoopy have been trying to fill the minds of the American public with inaccurate, unsubstantiated, and I think, potentially very, very harmful misinformation about a beagle dog facing off against an historical figure,” Guidi said. “I think it’s dangerous, I think it’s irresponsible, and I think it’s high time that this nonsense be rectified and pulled from the television airwaves. It’s doing a disservice to history and to World War I historians everywhere.” [reviewer Brian diMaio]
I salute Dr. Guidi for his exhaustive effort. I know how that feels. Worse for me because Dr. Guidi is probably not Cyrillicly challenged.
And I have obviously missed something of vital significance to my thesis.
So, SAKER: when and where was Strelkov ever a field commander?
You’ve got to know better. Have you not seen or heard of his recent video (url posted on this blog, I think by Demargot) in which he says when he recently experienced an artillery barrage he realized that he’s never seen war before? And you know in this war he rode a desk. It was no war for someone who knew nothing about artillery.
Is it time to ask that Strelkov’s co-religionists self-identify, perhaps with a discreet M (for monarchists) after their sign-ins, when posting about Strelkov?
Neutral observer here. Once again, no military sitrep in the sitrep. There’s nowhere to discuss whether or not US weapons are secretly being used to stop the Russians where they couldn’t be stopped in early September. Was Putin tricked by Poroshenko with a promise of federalization after the elections when it looked like Yats was polling only 5%? Was the time used to make the Ukraine forces more formidable?
You would think Obama would finally agree to federalization.
How accurate is Militarymaps.info?
Why do they keep showing advances by the rebels but then those advances are clearly pushed back? Why did the Russian side lie about surrounding Schastye last week? Or were they pushed back? Are 50 russian tanks really near Schastye and unable to change the equation?
Where is Auslander with info about this?
Why does one hear that the Baxmutha highway checkpoints are being mortared and tank shelled? Not enough grads? Really? Were grads put out of action there by accurate American-sourced precision artillery?
It seems the rebels are slowly trying to get around the reservoir to cut off the Debaltsevo pocket. It also seems like the rebels are trying to surround Avdeevka from the north counterclockwise. But they are afraid to use tanks, which once again makes me believe the Americans delivered some weapons.
Maybe Putin is just showing force going into meetings with China and the Australian G20.
thanks Saker-I recall that over the weekend was supposed to be a big meeting on NR side, staff? But maybe that is what you are referring to in your comments about reorganisation, military being recalled-it felt like a sense of urgency(not desperation?) , either in like re-assessing their situation, in anticipating an attack, and their own appeals for weapons, clothing, bullet proof clothing etc, plus requests for money to help with medical aid and prosthetics for wounded soldiers, that the NR military were not in a good position at all, even morale, cos dependant on volunteers they need to know someone will take them to hospital. I wonder of the meeting did take place………and also whether any assessment can be made more of the Ukr military “call to arms” following that article via JRL I re=posted about apart from claims NR has 25000 by Sbu that also operation Domino has commenced by Rus( it sounded as if some real info is there) -not caught up with Sundays news yet so suppose I should-but have actually got to do some work today…………60000 Donbas miners stated months ago they would volunteer for militia I seem to recall too-wonder what latest is there, apart from claims NR has 25000 ……..probably preferably they’d rather mine coal and sell to Crimea…….just read about more targeted shelling killing innocents in Donetsk, tragedy increasingly continues.

That is a rather vague statement as it leaves in the middle what the relevant properties of that system are.
As I see it the following are the relevant elements:
– the rule of law is still weak. There still is a considerable risk that when you establish a company it will be ransacked by criminals, tax officials or other government officials who want their share of the cake. The result is that entrepreneurs prefer investment lite enterprises like software.
– As an oil economy Russia tends to have an overvalued currency that makes it hard to compete with foreign competitors.
– Companies don’t stand alone. They need an infrastructure of relevant expertise. In building such expertise the government can play an important role. Until now I don’t see any effort by the Russian government to build such centers of expertise. Not even in agriculture where Russia’s large size could provide a competitive advantage.

Givi’s sitrep sounds as though the major battle of the war so far has just been fought. Ukr casualties approaching 200, 10 Ukr officers killed, including a Colonel tank commander, close fighting (they’re out of fixed positions) destroying surveillance and targeting equipment, eight tanks killed . . .
Total “friendlies” casualties not mentioned.

Here I am inclined to believe that Strelkov was never meant to be awarded the Hero, considering what Petrovsky had written several days previously – namely, that it was Bezler who was going to get some good news. Petrovsky then confirmed it a second time and said that the first version of the document on the site was a fake. Terrible mess all the same.
Petrovsky also keeps complaining that they are trying to get rid of him and/or his spetsnaz brigade. So far he has managed to hang on, but apparently the latest news is that his people were now expected to feed themselves unless and until the Ukies actually attack. The whole thing seems incredibly stupid, I don’t understand what the problem there is. Unlike, say, Strelkov, Petrovsky seems to be doing exactly what he is qualified for, considering his Spetznaz GRU background.

NO not yet, internal pressure will be applied for the time being, just how long it took for Ukraine to finally reach the Maidan stage.
we are already seeing a slight mutation of the protest movement, they have the social & political leverages at hand to provoke. Give them any excuse and it will get a backing from the US & EU, not in an obvious manner.
It’s not an easy topic to approach, if you want a basic outline of how things evolved up to now, have a look at my blog for articles on Orban.

I find your winter fighting post very encouraging. Point by point, our guys will handle it better than the Ukrs. Most of the difficulties sap morale. Who has reserves of that?
I’ve been wet and cold in winter, or especially when the seasons were changing, because I blithely went trekking out without boots, or hat, or gloves. I lived two years in the Arctic, where the weather reports concluded “exposed flesh will freeze in ____ seconds” and was never cold. We knew we were in the Arctic and behaved accordingly. We had to carry toddlers all the time, though. You can be holding on to one hand and the little devils can still wiggle the other hand out of their mittens.
Incidentally, you take the batteries out and store them in a heated area. No starting problems then. If fuel is not a problem, or sound suppression, you leave motors idling all night. Or sentries can crank up during rounds.

The US and the EU express concern at reports of a build-up of separatist reinforcements in eastern Ukraine after a day of shelling in Donetsk.”
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-29982956
Ukie side spends the day shelling civilian city and the British Bullshit Corporation focus on a ‘separatist’ buildup?
What is this pathology?
I was thinking the Ukie/Nato would spring a battle on Putin while he’s at the G20. Perhaps I’ve read it wrongly, and Putin is going to stick a neat little G20 ‘pay back’ onto the other side?
How certain are you that the convoys have crossed the Novorussian-Russian border?
I find it a bit bizarre that there are no clear pictures of them near the border available to the public – the U.S. must have tons of satellites that are taking exactly these pictures all the time, right?
And there must be many people much closer to the Lugansk border with Russia that could film those convoys over there, couldn’t they?

With a little luck Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria will be the vanguard to put pressure on Brussels. Or better ignore them completely:

Your contribution posits binaries where as life is more complex.”””””
In Boolean Algebra the art of answering the more complex questions consists of inter-linking smaller questions in such a manner, that they finally depict complex reality. The question that I dared to ask about your opinion regarding Gorbatchev was only such a chunk, because I wanted to make it easier for hair-splitting enthusiasts like you to answer it.
I assumed that there is little need to re-repeat all the related surroundings in this Pro forum. Have I been that wrong?

My question was exclusively about Gorbatchev.
Maybe I’m non-illuminated in contrast to you. But at least I post with some name. In fact not even a nick, but my full name. You on the other hand are “contributing” as whatever un-recognizable user “anonymous”. Not even as “anonymous-xyz”. So be more careful with your superiority remarks.
In Spring I had more or less forseen, that NATO would play DowningAirliners and blame it on Russia. I may not know every name and every detail, but anyway a lot more than your arrogant remark suggests.

@Cassandra:So, SAKER: when and where was Strelkov ever a field commander?
Ever heard of a place called Slaviansk?
Is it time to ask that Strelkov’s co-religionists self-identify, perhaps with a discreet M (for monarchists) after their sign-ins, when posting about Strelkov?
What a stupid and ignorant thing to suggest. Normally, this would have landed that comment into /dev/null, but in this case I left it just to tell you how discouraging it is to try to explain something to folks with that level of ignorance and prejudice. Comments like this one make me feel like throwing in the towel in disgust and just give up. Good thing they are rather rare.
The Saker
hello,
Citation: “This is now a race against time. Who, of the United States or Russia, will have to cave in first and who will have the staying power to hold on to its objectives”
I think there will not be an answer in the next years. I heard some rumors of a second iron curtain on European ground and I have to admit that the situation is developing in this direction. What do you think? Could it happen again?
regards

“ Novorossiya leaders MUST be locals.
Having foreigners, and especially foreigners with “intelligence” (secret police) connections, is the same as every other empire appointing its own governors to their colonies”
Perhaps your perception is clouded by prejudgements/prejudices including the following.
You appear to emphasise a local situation thereby discounting its “international” contents, dimensions and opportunities.
You appear to conflate intelligence with secret police.
You also appear to believe that appointments under some form of duress has/is taking place and extrapolate there on, arriving at your opinion on the actual and/or perceptual existence of governors and colonies.
Most importantly by using “MUST” you posit a categorical imperative thereby restricting strategic flexibility and options.
Perhaps such perceptions and/or practices are better left to your opponents?
Dear Saker,
Firstly, Could you explain us on the actual differences between russian and ukrainian. To which extent are russains able to understand ukrainian. What is the origin of the modern ukrainian standard.
Secondly, could you tell us on the origins of the kuban cossack
conflict during the WWI. Why there were so many cossacks that wanted to become part of the independent ukrainian state?
Finally, why there are so many polish words in the ukrainian standard language. Is this the result of a deliberate policy of reshaping the russian dialect spoken in the present territory of Ukraine?
It would be great if you could let us know more about all this questions related with the present conflict. I think it would be worth to talk more about the cultural similarities between Ukraine and Russia.
Thanks for your extraordinary work.
Yours sincerely
Hi/Privyet Everyone
It would be great if The Saker could comment on this very interesting piece from James Petras (http://www.globalresearch.ca/russias-vulnerability-to-eu-us-sanctions-and-military-encroachments/5412884), especially about Russia’s economic vulnerabilities whose The Saker seems to have overlooked in his article’s conclusion.
